difficult in lecture everything is in his pretest but he makes the test hard but lab is easy except he take up seriously half the time lecturing
I took him in the 5week session in summer. I got an A because he goes through everything that will be on test-no surprises. Nice man willing to help. Does lecture a lot in lab.

He is not clear on any of the material. I didn't learn anything from. I passed his class with a A by going to the tutor. He is very unorganized and 1/2 the time doesn't even pay attention to the students.
Why is 4/5th's of the class failing this basic entry-level Chem course? Mr. Alexander has an amazing ability to complicate even simple theories and equations. The class is left, every day, wondering what the heck we just "learned". God help
Alexander is, by far, the worst professor that I have taken. He seems like a very intelligent man, but that does not give him the right to teach.
This is also the worst professor I've ever had. He is so disorganized and didn't revise our syllabus after the fires. He crammed in a chapter a day right before finals and then made us take test #4 on finals week. Yuck!
He assumes students are as knowledgable as he is. Unprofessional in the performance of his teaching career. His pre-tests are hand written and not even close to professional material. WORST CHEM TEACHER!!!
I HAVE DR ALEXANDER FOR LECTURE & THE SEMESTER IS HALFWAY DONE...& ITS SAD TO SAY THAT I HAVE NOT LEARNED ANYTHING. DOESN'T TEACH CHEMISTRY IN A WAY THAT YOU CAN UNDERSTAND. I HAVE DR BUDZYNSKI FOR LAB & HER LECTURE DURING LAB HELPS EXPLAIN EVERYTHING.
He is the WORST teacher I have ever had!!! He is completly unorganized and is constantly late to class (always at at least five minutes, but has been up to twenty minutes late). His lectures are worthless, I have an A because of a tutor, not him.
I have not learned a single thing this semester. I'm only passing because I remember what I learned from another teacher many semesters ago. He is never on time, never organised, loses his train of thought often, and constantly rambles.
The prof. reads his poorly hand-written notes to the class. Continues his lecture in his lab (not everyone takes his lab). Does not review for any tests. Repeats his initial explanation when a more thorough one is asked for, or tells you to read his notes
His lectures are slow and he does not use class time effectively, especially since he is late everyday. Everything I've learned in this class I can get straight out of the book, lab and test questions notwithstanding.
He talks more about things that aren't on the test, then are. very hard to understand. If you have time to read the book, then you could take this course and pass
HE CAN'T TEACH ALWAYS LATE FOR CLASS. IN AND OUT OF CLASS MOST OF THE TIME. HIS LECTURE IS BORING.
SORRY! THE ONLY WAY TO GET A GOOD GRADE IN THIS CLASS IS TO CHEAT!! HE IS REALLY CONFUSING AND BORING. I USED THIS CLASS AS A NAPTIME.
He is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. He expects the class to know the material, yet it is a 100 class. Always late, and his lecture are boring.
The worst teacher I have ever had and probably ever will have. Studied all the time and only pulled a B. Very unclear and always late to class. If you have a choice don't take this class from him.

need to change teaching style and be more clear with the materials for the exam.
he is a good teacher, just keep up with his lectures and the class will be easy! just study and you'll be fine!!
Awful! Unhelpful, mean, rude, didn't even know his own schedual, forced purchase of his inacuratly written lecture book that contradicted the text book. He should get an F for FIRED! He is an embarasment to the college.
He's very nice and helpful, and for tests all you need to study are the pretests and you'll do just fine! People are dumb, that's why they're failing. He might not be the best at lecturing but he sure does help you if you have probs. Also easy to cheat!!!
he is a good teacher! just go to his class and study for the exams and you will do fine. He really cares about his students. He'll give you respect if you respect him.
He is so sweet and really cares about the students. He is the department head. He has been at Mesa for years he really knows his job. Great teacher. Take notes...listen to Lecture. He will help you if you try.
I bet every positive remark on here the Professor wrote about himself! I can not belive how horrible his class is, boring, monotone, innaccurate, he is late to class, I don't care if he is the department head, he needs to be evaluated by a superior!!!
Can't teach, stumbles over his words, doesn't follow the book.
I usaully get A's and B's in biology/chemistry classes but could never understand what this professor wanted to get a decent grade.
RUN!! This teacher is BY FAR THE WORST, most of the time he is the only option in OChem so try to get a tutor outside of the class. He doesnt really explain anything and be prepared to teach yourself. But if u do decent on the test they do drop the lowest
Chemisrty is not an easy subject, he makes it clear what he is going to test on, he gives you practice tests that are just like the real ones. If you study and do the homework you should do okay, but if you procrastinate then you will do bad.
If you ask him for help he will help you. Very unorganized class. A tutor is a must. Study the pretests and make sure you take the lab. Very difficult class but not impossible to get a B or better.
This professor is great. He can seem very disorganized but don't pay attention to it. The student has to be very attentive during lecture, ask questions when doe not understand. He is more than willing to explain. The pretest given are just like the tests,if one studies them everything should be fine
I don't understand people's posts on this forum. Chem 130 is harder than 100, but if you put in the effort, Alexander will help you and you'll do fine. Yes, he is disorganized, but utilizing the pretest is the easiest way to be successful. Ask questions mainly on the pretest. Use book as a guide.
Unclear, didn't offer much assistance. Get a tutor cause there's not much help from the professor.
He's very nice but he's teaching technique is not very good. He has a soft voice( difficult to hear & understand) and seems to be talking to the board although he's always willing to help out.Good luck!
like everyone else says, he's super unorganized and talks in a monotone voice...im taking it as we speak and am kicking myself for not getting a tutor..im having to pretty much teach myself out of the book..my advice: try a different professor
Obviously a smart man but that doesn't make him a good teacher! He will go over things if you ask but gets impatient if you don't get it right away. He is often tardy, usually unprepared and frequently has to leave class to get his supplies. Class is passable if you can teach yourself and go for tut
He is totally unorganized, late for class every day, interrupts constantly while we are taking exams. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS unless you are a glutton for punishment!
OMG u guys dont take him, he sucks! He's always late, I mean every day! and he can't teach his lectures are boring, it is a pain to sit in his class. I have to drop his class and I never EVER have to drop any class. Dont take him!!! I didnt sign up for him either
I don't know what some of the others were talking about. This teachers pre-tests were nothing like his tests in Chem 100. He sucks! He faces the boared when he lectures and covers up everything he is tryig to tell you. Always late...makes no sense...looses his train of thought...is Unorganized.
Teacher was always late,Lets the students sit there with their hand in the air for a question for the entirety of class as he whispers sweet nothings to the chalkboard and his back to his students. Does not show for scheduled office hours even if the student gets an appointment. he often spends half of your class time talking irrelevent subjects
late a lot: yes. disorganized: yes. Like all you little slackers are always on time & organized? Yeah, right. Fact is, it's a pretty easy class. It's very math intensive so if you're good at math, you can pull an easy B. Just do his pre-test handouts. 4 tests, 1 is dropped; then final is 40% of your grade. He curves generously.
his teaching is better than other CHEM teacher. He always gave us pretest before the test inclass
Organic Chem would not be fun no matter who taught it. He is a nice man, but wastes a lot of time. Pretests do help a lot. Don't be afraid to speak up and ask questions, that is what he is there for. His notes are sloppy and difficult to read in packet. Needs them updated with today's technology.
He has no skill of teaching. His clarity is terrible.

Terrible teacher. but is pretest helped on the exams.
The worst teacher I have ever taken! If you can take someone else, do it...unfortunately he was the only one teaching Chem 130 when I had to take it!!
late alot..talks to the board. Woudl it kill him to put on a clean lab coat? He took all the science out of chem. He made the class very math intensive and never tied Lab in with lecture. I did all the handouts, pretests and extra work-very outdated materials. It's apparent he doesn't even use a Computer.
This teacher has tenure...He's not going anywhere...but Should be OUTTA HERE! Lecturing sucks, notes suck, but pretests are a God Send! If you can get him one-on-one, best thing going. Especially AWAY from other students. He won't be so frazzled. Don't wait till the end to do essays, or formal labs; do them ASAP. You'll be grateful!
Ok listen everyone! He is a nice man. BUT, he lectured so slowly, that by the time the end of the semester was here, he stuff 8 chapters in 2 days!!! He said here are 8 chapters, know them in 1 week! He is unclear, but helpful if you ask questions. This is definitely a SELF-TAUGHT class! Get another professor if you can!
I found him to be a tad disorganized but very clear in what he wants. His pre-tests proved to be very helpful but naturally they are going to be DIFFERENT than the actual tests. Study the material that the pre-tests COVER and you will do fine. If you ahve questions, ask him, he is very helpful.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. Everyday he arrives 15 minutes late for class; even for our final he arrived late. Lectures are unorganized, he doesn't follow syllabus, doesn't allow for student interaction. Be warned!!! I am an A student. I will be lucky if I get a B in his class.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!! he always talks to the board and never knows what he's talking about. he waits until the very end to tell you your grade..very unorganized..
H eis THE WORST TEACHER EVER!!If you can take ANYBODY ELSE for this class, do it!Even if you have to drive to another college, trust me it is worth it!!!
This "doctor" is so unorganized, so vague in his lectures and mumbles so much its a wonder anyone can learn anything. I WISH WISH WISH someone else taught this course because it would have been so much nicer not having to teach this course to myself. I agree, go to miramar or city and find a professor that teaches this course there. This guy sucks
Dr. Alexander is a genuine good guy.. hes one of those professors that is soooo smart, but has a little trouble verbalizing whats going through his mind. His pre-tests are god sent. This is a very hard class is general, nobody should expect it to come easy with any teacher.
His teaching, handouts, and professionalism are inexcusable. He is the worst professor I have ever had. He never uses the book and instead hands out 100s of pages of hand written photo-copied notes. The only saving grace is that the pre-tests are essentially the actual test. So, hire a tutor and have her teach you the material from the pretest.
Worst teacher i've ever had.. stay away if at all possible!! He is very unorganized so don't plan on sticking to your syllabus schedule by any means. He talks way over your head like your some scientist in a monotone voice. I seriously advise taking Ochem at a different college...if not, get a tutor and good luck!!
Very poor instructor. Seems like a decent man but gives EXTREMELY tough exams with little to no explanation during lectures on the material.
One of the worst teachers I have ever taken. Lectures are unclear, and material seems to be taught harder then it should be. Alexander shows up late 5-10 mins late almost every class period. Labs are ridiculously prolonged since he goes over EVERY SINGLE step! Got an A, but felt like I was taking this class in high school not college.
this class was really difficult and made no sense at all... If you can try to find a different teacher than this guy
please. save yourself. DO NOT take this man. I am an A student and had to withdraw!! So unorganized, always late, SELF TAUGHT class, always talks to the outside door or the board, doesn't respond well to questioning, cannot survive without tudor, never uses the book, only uses the 100+ pages of handwritten notes he makes you buy, super hard!
Always late to class. Lectures at the begining of the semester are long and drawn out. He goes over the simple stuff at the begining of the course and speeds through the more difficult stuff at the end. If he is your only choise, study hard, you will be learning a lot on your own. Do the homework, he takes it at the end of the semester as extra cre
TERRIBLE - You wont learn anything. The entire class drops, no one shows up because even the alexander is late to every class. you will spend more in tutoring than you did in units. You cant understand him, he asks retarded questions from the class. Just stay out!!!
He just doesn't have a clue, not a good teacher, transfer stat if you want to understand anything about chem, especially if you want a passing grade or to understand chemistry. He is a decent guy, if you talk to him he's cool with pushing back a test if you need more time.
This was the worse class I have ever taken. He lost my final paper and gave me an incomplete even though I resummitted the paper though e-mail. I had to call and e-mail him for weeks after the semester ended to get things cleared up. He lost many assignments throughout the semester. Class is boring, complicated and unclear. Avoid this class.
Do not take this class! Worst mistake you will ever make. He doesn't answer questions correctly, and stands in front of the board when explaining things to the class.
Horrible teacher. If you ask questions, he's condesending. Hard grader. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS WITH DR. ALEXANDER!
He's ok. My first time back at college in 25 + years. He's in his own world but I found him helpful and clear. Tests were hard but fair.
He's not a great teacher, but will help you out if you ask. This class is largely self taught, but he gives you practice tests to work on throughout the semester. These are very similar to the real exams so you should be fine if you know the practice test material.
Kind of hard to follow, jumps from subject to subject randomly. Talks very quietly and is VERY serious...NEVER smiles or laughs, but he knows his chem and is anice guy tho. Grading scale VERY fare and leanient. Always provides practice problems and a pretest w/ answers that are very similar to the actual text. Final is take-home which is nice!
His class was very boring and it was hard to follow him if you do not know a lot of Chemistry before this class. You mostly take notes and do practice tests before an exam, which is actually very helpful. The practice tests are almost like the exam, just different numbers, etc. He is not a bad teacher, but I would choose someone else for this class
not a good professor. he basically talks to the wall the whole class. You have to figure out everything by yourself. Don't take this professor if your want to pass chem class.
Horrible horrible horrible, nice guy, terrible professor. Avoid taking Alexanders class at all costs!!!!
He is nice and easy going, soft spoken, he sure knows the material, is hard to understand at first but it gets better as semester goes on. He provides answer keys to homework and pre-tests. Tests are not hard, with the exception of the final exam, which is divided into 2 parts, second part is long and hard. Be sure to keep up with the assigments.
He is always late to class, missed 4+ lectures, doesn't seem to care about students. Did not find his lectures helpful, which is doubly unfortunate bc he diverges from the book at times. Worst of all, the final was a two-day standardized test--a completely unexpected format and much of its material had barely been covered in class, if at all.
Dr. Alexander's teachings are not always clear but he is available during his office hrs and if that doesn't work he will schedule something that does work. He wants us to pass and gives us practice test and the answers to them. Don't miss a class and utilize his services after class and you will pass. Also do the hw to get an extra letter grad
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR OCHEM unless you just want to pass and not learn anything. Took him over the summer and it was TORTURE! he is so boring, i wanted to shoot myself - as did the whole class. He is very unfocused...however, if u go to the tutoring sessions with Andrew, it's an easy A. Tests based off pre-tests, but he grades TOUGH in lab.
Dr Alexander is so sweet. He's Mr. Roger's meets Bill Cosby :)He's soft spoken, but every once in a will he'll make you laugh. If you have him for lecture, I encourage you to take him for lab too. His exams are ALL MULTIPLE choice. He works with a tutor named Andrew & if you tutor with him you'll get at least a B+ on the exams! Buy the study guide!
This is probably one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. He is always late, he acts like everyone knows or expects everyone to know exactly what he's talking about. He goes through lecture really quick and goes through calculations rather quick so it's really hard to follow sometimes. He gives out 4 tests 1 is take home and he drops 1 test as well. In addition to that there's a 2-part final which I'm heavily dressing because it's worth like 400 points! I'd recommend taking another teacher!
He knows his stuff, and he's a very good teacher. Quite soft-spoken so you need to listen hard, but if you pay attention you'll understand his lectures. His handouts are chicken scratch, but very informative. Study the pre-tests well and you'll ace the exams! Not an easy A, but you'll definitely learn a lot from him.
Yes he is a very boring teacher, but he offers study guides for every test and practice tests which are basically the actual test just that he switches the number around. he drops your lowest test, offers extra credit and his grading scale is rather generous. I didnt pass all the tests and got a B in his class.
Professor has concise knowledge of Chemistry. He provides a practice and a pre-test before the real test. His tests are usually hard, but he drops one test and usually the 4th test is a take home. the final is broken up into two parts. His lectures aren't as good compared to other instructors.
Dr. Alexander is a really nice prof. for chem 130 comparing to other professors. The material isnt easy though but he is flexible and will let you turn in late hw (lab)if you have a good reason.
he goes through ALL the experiments with you. Really enjoyed his class!!! he's funny, sweet, amazingly smart, an admirable professor! works with you if you are late turning in homework. my favorite professor i have ever had! HIGHLY recommend.
this teacher is a mono-tone, non-intresting fool of a scientist, that showed up 15 minutes to class late every session. Therefore making him rush through all the chemistry rules and therios that take a whole class period to explain. If your good bs'er then I'm sure you would do fine! but if you really want to understand the materialdontwasteyourtim
this class is easy. you just have to study. hes a really sweet guy but a bit boring. if you study and do the assignments you'll pass that class with an A or a B.
this class is hard but you need to study. the study guide is exactly the same as the exam. you read the book, go over your notes, ask questions and review the study guide then you're fine.
Shouldnt be allowed to lecture, terrible. Beyond boring, explains life story of theory inventors, and rushes through the actual theory's you need. 15mns late EVERY class, expects you to stay 5-mins late. Everything said is so drawn out. Gives practice pre-tests that are almost same as tests. Don't take if you want a real understanding. Need Txtbk
He gives out pretests and study guides before every exam if you know what is on those youll do fine. Take notes in his class but use them as an aid because what he spends a majority lecturing in class will not be a predominant on the test. Oh and I don"t think he has ever been on time.
First ill start off by saying Dr. Alexander is a nice guy, however he is the worst teacher i have ever had in my whole life!!! I am an honors student, I strive for success in every course and I received a C in Dr. Alexander's course. 99.7% of what he lectures in class is not on the test! His pretests are not a good representation of actual tests!!!
Probably the worst professor I've had. His lectures are extremely boring and he focuses on one not-so-important part of a lesson and explains it in a painstakingly difficult-to-follow manner. Our class is 3 weeks behind schedule from the syllabus. You're better off reading the book and learning from that on your own.
If you want to learn Chemistry please DO NOT take him! He is unorganized, late to every class! He doesn't explain clear you basically have to learn chemistry on your own especially last week before finals he gave as to learn on our own four chapters... He didn't even explained them. I am so disappointed and frustrated because it's not an easy class already. We were four chapters behind and the lab that I took was ahead so go figure yourself what the lab is about...
He's a very nice guy. I am RIDICULOUSLY frustrated with his class however. We are now 3 weeks behind schedule.lab hasn't coincided w/ lecture since week 2. Have high B in class based on first three exams. Now fear I will fail. Dumped a month of material on us with one week to finals. We will have exam 4 tues. final exam thurs. unprofessional. Unfair
if you like having no mandatory hw and just tests like me then prof A is awesome (the hw is EC and just helpful for studying) I didnt waste any time doing excessive amount of hw in his class, once i understood the material then i could go do other things.Just do practice tests cause thats 90 % of whats on the test. theres a few q's that are random
hes a nice guy, alot were able to crash the class so im extremely thankful. his teaching is ok, there was construction near the class so it was hard to hear him since hes not very loud.just sit up front. there was no HW and the attenedence wasnt strict. Just study on your own cuz chem is a hard topic for anyone. Easy class to pass, hard to get an A
Alexander is very nice and incredibly smart. But he is not a teacher. He showed up 10-15 min late for every single class. We got behind the schedule so we had 2 exams in 3 months, and the last 2 exams and the final in a month and a half. He "reviewed" chapters in his lab not covered in lecture because he got behind and if you could't go, tough.
i agree this class is difficult. all chemistry is. i had him for my 3rd and final attempt to pass for my nursing. I really put in effort that he could see. alot of extra credit, staying after as much as he had time, and stressing to him about how bad i needed to pass! I know i failed the class but he passed me with a C and told me i earned it! :)
Prof. Alexander gives a lot of opportunities to study by handing out pretests and practice tests. However, you should read the chapter on your own and try to do all the red questions. Then you can get an A. The tests aren't that hard but the calculations may take very long. He's ok for chemistry.
AVOID HIM! Sweetest man ever, but horrible teacher. NEVER returns you homework, labs, etc. Makes up grades. disorganized. ALWAYS 20-40 minutes late!! Poor and boring explanations. The man is sweet as pie but EVERYONE knows to avoid him if possible. Mesa really gives up the crappy end of the stick by employing him.
He is a very sweet, funny guy just not that great of a teacher at all. He was always off track and we were always behind. don't take him if you don't have to, if he is your last resort, I would say the textbook is your best friend. READ READ READ ALOT and DO ALL THE HOMEWORK PROBLEMS with a good tutor. no social life and no help from him.
I hate to say it but he is da worst teacher I have ever had!!!! he is nice and sometimes funny.... but this was the first class I hated!!!
Do not take this class if you really do want or need to learn Chemistry! Was intimidated to ever ask questions or seek help after class Made me feel stupid or like I was bothering him. Even though it was obvious the class was lost, he would just keep going. Explained everything in the most difficult ways Not enough practice work Fair grading
This class requires your full dedication and effort. Read the book and practice the pretests. 87%+ is an A, 75% is the cut off for a B. Dr. Alexander will give you the grade you EARNED. He allowed many students to turn in late assignments and take tests late, just talk to him and he will help you. Sit in front b/c he is soft spoken.
Dr. Alexander is an extremely nice person. Ask any questions you need he will stop the lecture and answer them. I had him for both chem 100 and 130. Exams are EXACTLY like the pre-tests just study those. I barely used the textbook. Def crammed lots of info in at the end of the semester. For organic chem class it's a breeze. Don't be intimidated!
Honestly WORST professor I've ever had. He's not a bad guy that tries to screw you up, but he's definitely not a teacher either. Lectures are boring and he does NOT know how to teach. Be ready to teach yourself chemistry. He's always late for class at least 5-10 minutes and sometimes 15 but you still need to wait for him -.-
You really have to study for the exams. Need to put a lot of effort and commitment to earn a passing grade
Honestly I don't hate Chemistry but I do Hate the way Prof. Alexander teaches this class. He doesn't explain anything clearly, moves on even though students have no idea what he is talking about. When reviewing he will not take it upon himself to explain ?'s but will stand until until someone asks. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
The course wasn't hard, it just required A LOT of studying. He does not assign homework, but you must definitely read the textbook before class or you WILL feel lost. Do the practice problems in the chapters, see him during office hours. He is friendly, very approachable, and willing to help. Definitely do the PreExams, it will help!
nice guy. but Very disorganized and behind syllabus. We hoped that would mean easier final but nope. Hardest exam I've ever taken. He does give practice tests and answers, so i managed to teach myself enough to get an A.
I do NOT recommend taking Dr Alexander for Chem and I'm good @ chem. Does not know how to teach, lectures are unclear and disorganized leaving you struggling to learn and understand concepts on your own. Lab is a nightmare, makes you do a lab manual and if its not EXACTLY what he wants, such as the photocopy being too light will take off points.
He gets pissed when the class gets confused. Instead of helping them understand he just yells at the class. It's time for him to retire.
He is very condescending, he makes students feel embarrassed when they get the answer wrong. His classes are not structured well.
Dr. Alexander is a nice guy, don't get me wrong, however; he ranks as the worst instructor I have ever had so far at any school. He does not explain anything clearly at all. If you take his class you will most definitely be teaching yourself. Mesa needs an Ochem teacher that actually cares about his/her students learning the material.
Dr. Alexander is the worst professor I have ever had. He starts lecture 20 minutes after the designated time, consquently throwing him behind schedule. The class will be a month behind in lecture. He then scrambles to catch up rushing through material the last few weeks. He is extremely disorganized. Be prepared to teach yourself in this class.
Unprofessional! He comes to class every day 20-30 mins late. We are behind on material & what he does?skims through 3 chp right b4 our final. He doesn't have "time" to go over your practice /pretest answers b/c he is always late. so he gives us a pract. Test to study for exam 4(take home)& he leaves off info for the problem. He needs to retire!
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!! He just goes over his own notes that you can not even read then drops a test on you randomly which that is the only thing that counts towards your grade. Does not know how to grade on time. Treats you like your stupid if you don't know everything. DO NOT TAKE!!
Teaching may not be the best and can be quite confusing. Nevertheless, his exams are close to his pre-exams(opposite questions in actual exam). The key is to make a study group, basing all your time in studying the pre-exams inside/out. Exams are all multiple choice. Class outline: Four exams(drops lowest), essay, and final. Curves grading scale!
Do not take the class if you're unable to learn by yourself or put in the time. Definitely do the pre tests and understand the problems in the pre test. He is very patient and approachable. Do the practice problems in the book, read the book, and make sure he knows who you are because he does curve!
Just study the Pre-Exams. I didn't lose too much sleep over this class. Get an A on the research paper to boost your grade, which I didn't think he grades too hard on. You can drop 1 exam out of 4. The cumulative final was pretty hard though. If I can, pass you can pass.... unless you really just put no effort at all.
