The best class I've ever taken. Professor Shelby made learning fun and inspired me to pursue history as my major.

This class was awesome! Professor Shelby does a great job explaining all the information that he tests you on. I would take him again. Wish all my classes were like this one.

This was an online history class. I love the topics, I love the class. For the first time in my life I understand the history.

Good Professor, he will help you if needed. He will communicate with you by email 24 hours after you contact him. Grading was a bit confusing because he has a grading curve. Two written assignments and about 8 discussions. Looking to get an A in his class.

Professor Shelby is an amazing history teacher. His lectures are both interesting and clear. Three exams and a few quizzes that were basically free grades. The only homework was to study for exams. I recommend taking him.

He may use attendance as a quiz grade sometimes. So, it's kinda mandatory. With that said, you can tell he's pretty amazing. I was never born or raised in the United States. I have no love at all for history and only took the class for credit. I finished with an A. I would definitely recommend. :) He told me personally not to buy the book. Go 4 it!

Professor Shelby is an amazing teacher. What I liked most was the connection of the past to the present. He also uses pop culture to help you understand the topic. He does make you write a written assignment, but does this in a step by step way that it is easy.

Taking this now for summer 2 2015, he makes history so dam easy lol. He only has two exams a midterm and a final. which made me panic but i got a 80 on the final. His midterm was so easy!!! He is a great teacher. Must Take!

Only has two tests....a midterm and a final. Some group activities. Overall, just show up, take notes and you'll pass!! I felt like I slacked and I still managed to get an A. I'm taking him again next semester!!

took this class online and i have a very hectic schedule and it was a breeze. not a ton of work, assignments only due once a week and its not a whole lot either. would definitely recommend !

Great professor. Would take again. Didn't like that I had to bombard him to reply back to my emails. Quizzes are from the power points and the tests are from the quizzes. One short 5 minute assignment a week and only 1 essay the whole semester. Very easy class.

Go to class and you'll get an A on the 3 tests you get all semester... Easy class, taking him again next semester.

He is legitimately one of my favorite professors so far. Take notes, ask questions and be open-minded. Easy A

Prof Shelby is awesome! He is very passionate about what he teaches and is great at it. You'll have a couple quiz grades here and there but you can work in groups for some of them. His tests are super easy but you NEED to study. I'd recommend to basically anyone.

Dr. Shelby is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is passionate about not only teaching, but WHAT he is teaching, and it shows. There are 3 tests per semester, with one being online. He teaches hands-on, and makes the class entertaining. There's videos to watch each week in class and pop quizzes about the video. Highly recommend his class!

This is my second semester taking Dr. Shelby. The class is super easy and he tries to make his lectures as engaging as possible. Just show up for class, be involved in the discussions, and there's a pretty high chance you'll walk out with an A.

He is one of the best professors I've ever had!! Very pationate about his job and it shows when he helps his students. Hardly ever gives quizzes and when he does he gives you some answers. He is very easy going. Had about 2 test the whole semester and he goes over answers before you take it .Highly recommend taking his class!! You won't regret it.

He was the best teacher I've ever had. His notes were easy to read and his lectures weren't long. He cared about your grade and would help you in any way he could. I WOULD TAKE HIS CLASS! The material made so much more since when he explained it and he's just an all out amazing teacher. Everyone passed his class with a B or higher.

Dr. Shelby is one of the best professors at IRSC. His lectures are funny, and entertaining. I particularly like the review games we play in class to review for the exams.

This was my first online class. Dr. Shelby made it so easy for me to pass. He was in constant contact with me through email and whenever I asked to meet with him at his office he was there. Great class! In the and I had 89.9 and ask for extra credit and he gave it to me bump me up to an A.

I took Dr. Shelby for WOH2040 online. You need to keep up with the reading and assignments to pass, but if you do the work you will get a good grade.

i really enjoyed the class! If you like history and learning fun facts you didn't know this is a great class. If you listen to his lectures and write down key notes you'll be fine. I'm actually really sad he won't be teaching any afternoon classes next semester brcause if he was I would take him in a heartbeat!

I took professor Shelby for an online virtual class for WOH2040 and he was awesome! The book I got from the bookstore for this course really did not help me to understand the periods within history, but all of the required reading material Mr. Shelby posted and the videos on the topics covered really helped me. Definitely take this class! :)

Great professor and loved this class. I loved how he connected the ancient world to todays. He is fair when grading allowed me to make up missed work.

The class was fun and very interactive and worked well with the second half of the class.

This class was a perfect follow up to the first part of class.

His class is pretty easy and there's not a lot of work involved. But he can be difficult to reach through email and his instructions aren't always right/clear. Discussion board and quiz every two weeks. One midterm taken at home and a final taken at the testing center. There is one writing assignment. You don't really need the book.

Great class! I took WOH2012 with him and this class continued where he left off. Great followup to previous class. Mixes lectures with activities and film. Take him!

Dr. Shelby is just awesome; I could go on about how excellent his class is; but just take it for yourself; would recommend for any history class.

Wish I would have taken him for AMH2010, great lectures, offers extra credit, quizzes and tests are online - we only meet once a week - accelerated class. Good sense of humor and class is enjoyable to attend. I would urge people to take his class, even the accelerated class because hes a great teacher and quizzes and tests are open book online!

He is probably the most chill professor I've taken. He gives out extra credit almost every class if you answer his random questions. We had two of our tests online and he basically gives us all the answers during review. He teaches with some youtube in class and we watched "historically correct" movies/tv shows.

I took this class as a dual-enrollment student. I don't find history that interesting as itself but I genuinely enjoyed this class. There were around 4 tests total, the midterm, the final, and I think two other mini tests in class. The midterm ended up being online so you could double check your answers and he does actually answer questions asked.

He was a very good instructor. The quizzes were not hard, the midterm was easy, and the final was not difficult. He uses PowerPoint more than the textbook. We use the textbook only a few times for specific subjects and extra credit, so you don't really need it. If you study what he tells you and participate in class, you will do fine.

Has to be one of the best professors I've ever had ever since starting college. If you need to class I fully recommend Professor Shelby. As far as work everything is clear had 2 take home exams, and the final he gives you the review the answers all you have to do is study. but other than that trust me b end of the semester you're going to learn

I took this as my first online class so I didn't know what to expect. Prof Shelby made everything very clear and easy to understand. I wish he taught the other history class I have to take!

I would definitely take this professor again, I wish he taught the other class that I need. Material wasn't too bad, must do the discussion posts and a few papers and quizzes.

This was my second time taking him, and both times were online. He is so unbelievably disorganized and communication is scarce. There's not a lot of homework and the assignments aren't hard, so I still did well. Midterm was online and final was at the testing center with notes. I would recommend but just know that there will be some confusion

I absolutely do not like history, but Professor Shelby made the it enjoyable. I enjoyed the videos he used to teach the lessons, and the assignments were easy. I highly recommend him, and I would take him again if I needed another history credit!

Mr. Shelby clearly displays credible and reliable information regarding the course work and responds to any questions or emails within 24 hours. I would definitely recommend a friend or anyone who's looking for a professor that's willing to take the time to assist the student with questions or help they might need regarding the course. Wonderful Professor. His weekly discussion boards make history interesting. Do the assignments and the quizzes and you should have no problems getting a good grade! High recommended!

I don't know what the other online reviews are talking about. Dr. Shelby always answered my emails on time and gave me the grade I deserved. The fact is this is an online class and you have to do the reading and homework on your own. You also need to know how to work a computer. If you don't, then this is not the class for you.

He really knows his stuff and is very passionate about what he teaches. He goes off on a bit tangents and has powerpoints, but TAKE DETAILED NOTES. Trust me, you'll need 'em. All exams are at home but the final. Had two debates. A few worksheets. Movies were watched. All study materials were posted when an exam was 3 days away. Again, TAKE NOTES!!

Taking online classes is hard enough without the system going crazy, but Dr. Shelby worked with me throughout the semester. Often the system would go haywire due to bugs in Blackboard. Dr. Shelby was understanding about this and give me more time to complete the assignments.

This guy really knows his stuff! Such an easy person to talk to and work with if you have any conflicts. I learned a lot in his classes, he gives helpful feedback, and cares about his students being successful. If you can take his class, do it!

I've been through several History teachers & never found the right one until I took Dr. Shelby! Dr. Shelby is THE BEST history teacher to take, especially if you're not fond of history such as myself. Dr. Shelby makes history FUN! You work in groups, he doesn't just lecture, he plays videos too. Don't miss class, participate, study & you'll pass!

Professor Shelby is AMAZING! He made me like History, the quizzes are online (at home) and theyre not timed. He opens up the quizzes after you took them and it shows you the answers and you can study them for the midterm and Final, the midterm was at home. Do the work and youll get an A hes a easy grader. I like Professor Shelby, but his lectures can be a bit boring. He knows a lot about history and put his students in a good position to pass the class by the way his power-points are set up. I definitely think his tests are hard, but the first couple were online and the final was in person. There is not a lot of work in this class.

The class really challenged my notion o f history . Dr. Shelby questions everything about history. He even challenges the notion the nature of religion and he loves controversial issues. The best part of class is when he compares current events with history and then leaves up to you do more research on the subject.

One of the best professors in the department and he really wants his students to succeed! He knows so much about the topics he teaches. Get ready to read for his classes and his lectures are related to the readings. He even gives extra credit. I had an 88 and his extra credit added gave me a 90, which is an A.

Great teacher. I thought I knew a lot about history until I took this class. Professor Shelby focuses on the events that history tends to gloss over. For example, if you want to learn why Iran is the way it today, Professor Shelby connected to its past during the Cold War. I love how he connected the past to the present!

This professor was absolutely amazing, He really cares about his students and the materials he passes along. I felt like I learned a lot walking away form this class and would recommend him to anyone.

This class is not that easy because the questions and answers are very specific on quizzes/tests and on discussion boards you have to reply to 3 other students, but Professor Shelby is very clear on assignments and gives great feedback and notes, he is also easy-going and lenient when it comes to the end of the semester.

Professor Shelby was one of the best professors I've had in a while. He's very understanding and laid back which made me like him more. He wasn't homework or test heavy which was nice but I would definitely take him again if I could.

He does jump around from one topic to another, but this is what makes the course so great because he will connect past events to present events. I'm taking WOH2040, the 20th century course, with him next semester because I love his teaching style.

If you want to understand why the world is the way it is, Dr. Shelby is your man! His lectures have what he calls "the ripple effect" in which past events impact us today. He doesn't teach history in the normal way going from even to the other, he does it with his "ripple effect" connecting the past to the present. I now know why WWII occurred.

Good class, good teacher. Make sure to take really good notes on the quizzes. The midterm and final are 100% the same as the quizzes.

I wanted to take this class live, but due to Covid-19, I had to do it online. There is a lot of reading to make up for the lectures. We don't meet face-to-face so you have to read the textbook and the material on the webpage. If you keep up with the work and do the activities, you will pass with an A.

Professor Shelby is a great teacher. The same textbook you use for WOH 2022 is used in this class. AS long as you read the chapter, even little details, you'll pass the class. Complete the assignments in time, take notes in the quizzes, most of those questions appear in the midterm or final! He responds to emails fast and is a quick grader.

Pretty easy class, only reason I got a B was because I wrote a good essay for the final but didnt read the directions so nothing meet grading criteria, still have me a low B, but had a low A from tests so brought it down. If you actually pay attention easy A.

I had take this class online because of Covid. The class was easy. I forgot to turn in an assignment and it brought my grade down but Dr. Shelby gave me extra credit and it went back to an A. Great Professor!

One of the best and passionate professors at IRSC and the best history professor here. I absolutely enjoyed his classes. We met only on Wednesdays mornings, but I actually loved getting up to go to class. I didn't want to miss a class because everyday there was something new.

Professor Shelby is amazing. One of the best teachers at IRSC. He is respectful and thoughtful and gives you time to finish assignments at your own pace. Most of all his lectures are not boring because he asks questions while lecturing, so everyone participates.

An amazing class. I never liked history until I took Professor Shelby's class. He really makes sure you understand the topic and what's going on at the time. His lectures vary from short to long lectures. He does discuss other topics and events that are going on around major events. On occasion he does have pop quizzes

Dr. Shelby allows you to get an easy A if you put in clear effort on assignments, and he did not wait until last minute to put in grades like other professors. The only thing I did not like is that he did not allow us to go ahead in the course. I would take him again.

Professor Shelby was a great and caring professor. I originally had Professor Rowley but he had a heart attack during the middle of the semester and Professor Shelby took his place. Professor Shelby made sure that we passed and he was always available for questions. Great communicator!

Amazing class and professor! Professor Shelby was a wonderful teacher and understanding when I had missed class due to a car accident. He only asked for proof and allowed me to make up the two weeks I missed.

I enjoyed WOH 2012 with Professor Shelby! He is quick to respond to emails and got back to me same or next day. The class itself was pretty interesting with a decent amount of reading and crash course videos. The assignments were pretty simple and easy to do. As long as you do the reading and answer properly, you'll get a good grade.

I took this course because it was required so I decided to take it with Professor Shelby. He was recommended to me by a friend. He is consistent with the grading and there are no surprises when it comes to grades. Professor Shelby tells you from day one do the work and turn in assignments on time and you will pass the class.

Professor Shelby's class is challenging but rewarding. Lots of reading and writing, but he explains topics well. unstuck study was a huge help for study prep. Overall, a solid history course.

If you have a question he'll help you with it and he does not give honorlock exams if you take hybrid. He will help if you have difficulty with a subject; he's happy to answer questions, and he really wants to see everybody succeed. He loves it when there is class participation.
