He was a hard teacher...defintely pay attention to the notes though. He doesnt really use the book.

lots of notes...do the extra credit in the back of the book (really helps ur grade)...difficult but just study & make sure u become friends w. people in the class so u can cheat w. them...otherwise GOOD LUCK
Lots complain about him. I think he was great. All you had to do was go to class and pay attention. Very helpful during office hours.

he's hard but i learned a lot in his class...he's the editor of the book we used (all 900pgs of it) so you can't try to pull anything on him! test are hard!! come at the end of the semester though...when no one is there he gives pop quizzes for points!
At first he seems really mean and unfair, but this all changes. He has his pet-peeves, but so does everyone. Overall he is a fair and pretty alright guy. Tests are hard so read the book.
Turko is a good guy. He has a hard class and dosn't take any bull. You cant show up to this class unprepared. He makes you act like a responsible adult so the people that dont like him could handel that. he was always very helpful.
Ok this is the complete truth: I took him during a summer course for both a&ps and cried each day. so hard, impossible to get even a B unless you really have a gifted talent for science. scares you to death on cell phones and being late. he will help u
I thought he was a nice teacher. Very fair grader, I failed all the tests but got a C+ for the semester (in both Bio 110 and 111). Don't worry about buying the book, the tests are just on the class notes.
Prof. Turko has his pet peaves but as long as you do what he says, you will be fine. His tests are only from his lecture notes. He uses powerpoint for the lectures. If you are having problems with the material, talk to him and he will help you.

horriable teacher. I withdrew from the class. over half of our class failed the first exam and he did not care. I had gone to ask for help, got refused. I would never recommend him to anyone
I had him for both 110 and 111 and let me tell u, he's not the nicest or easiest professor in the world. His tests are hard, and his lecture notes are unclear. i passed the classes with a C+ and a B-, and only because the labs really give u a chance to redeem urself for the exams.
Seems like a more difficult class at the beginning but turns out fine. Seems like a hardass but a nice guy I think. Gives LOTS of easy extra credit if you go to class... almost 20 pts per exam extra credit for answering the question: What is Biology? Makes the class VERY doable.

The class is difficult. I worked my hardest and greatly helps your overall grade. If he knows who you are,and you talk to him,you will get the C you need if you are a nursing major,etc. He is a very intelligent man,and people misconstrue that as him being rude or not caring about your grade.
he is hard, but fair. You REALLY REALLY have to study for his exams. But the exams are right out of your notes. Go to him for help that is what he is there for and he is a big help.

Turko is horrible. Even if you go and ask him for help he still shoots you down. Take Petrillo for this and 110. He is so much better. You'll be so much happier...I was!

wow..he has said some REALLY mean comments to some students in front of everybody in lecture, and telling people they're poor. and his exams are extremely difficult. avoid him if you can in order to save your GPA. i'm failing this class just because of his damn lecture exams...EXAMS=HELL
I got an A in the lab with a different teacher and I STILL got a D in the whole class. Its absolutely ridiculous. Dont take him.
This Class sucked big time! Turko is rude and is clueless on how to teach. His exams are totally confusing. He words things totally different on exams when compared to his notes. Its like he wants u to fail. I failed his class and I'm an A student. AVOID HIM
the class is hard. and he is not very helpful in lecture, BUT is very nice if u go talk to him one on one.. try to get mark as ur lab teacher... much more helpful and cute!
AWFUL!!! If this wasn't a required class I would have dropped it right away. 1st test the whole class failed, and the only thing he had to say about it was "I am a scientist! Not an educator!" well then, why the hell are you teaching a class. Horrible

Turko...the one teacher i have heard so much controversy about. i never heard him say anything bad to someone's face, but have heard stories. try to get mark4lab, i have turko and spent the majority of my mornings in lab. lecture exams suck,would recommend book andtape recorder, others say its good

Horrible as a teacher and as a person in general! Drop him if you have him and take someone else. The lab is the only thing that will save you and that itself is pretty difficult but passable with studying. Turko's lecture tests are impossible and you will FAIL.

I don't understand why everyone thinks turko is so bad. I though he was a great teacher. The only reason these people failed is because they are to lazy to study. If you can't handle this class forget the nursing program. Open your book and record the lectures and you'll do fine. I did !!!
This teacher has a bit of attitude, but not horrible. His lectures are clearly reflected in exams, so if you are good at studying and listening, you should do fine. YOu have to take your own initiative to do well in this class, which some may not like. Just have to deal with the attitude...
Our lab is almost two hours long, so when we took our lab exam I was expecting to be able to use the full class period like all other professors let us do. He did not let me finish my exam because we couldn't use the full class peiod. I was told that the mean professors are the ones you learn from.
Please stop trashing this professor. I think Turko is great! Prof. Turko is funny and interesting. Attend class, listen, take notes and study (like he told us from day one) and you will do great. Having problems...just talk to the man, he is there to help and is graceous about offering it!
He's awsome-don't skips his lectures or lab(and go to extra labs),study,and you'll do fine.Definately a class you want to taperecord-sometimes he goes a too fast,but his lectures are very interesting,&he is always willing to help you out! If you want to be a good nurse&you want to learn, take turko!

turko is a very hard professor. I went to mostly all his lectures and study all my notes for hours and still always manage to get a F on his lecture exams. Lab is easier then lecture but still hard. I wouldnt take Turko if you have the choice. He is tough and has an attitude problem.
very difficult professor does not grade fair makes mistakes on grading exams and will not fix them when you bring it to his attention if you miss just one class you will fail!
he is a good teacher in the aspect that he knows his stuff, & is brillant, but he has an attitude problem, won't help you, & some advice take bio110 b4 u take bio111.his tests are hard, & u'll pass if ur 1 of his favorites, if not good luck, if ur havin problems he doesn't care.
The material in the course is meant to be hard. If you plan on attempting to be a nurse, and can't pass this class I wouldn't want you working on me or my family! If this is your major, you need to prioritize this course. Besides, the nursing courses are even harder than this course and Turko is a much more thorough professor than nursing dept.
Professor Turko is not a bad person but he was not meant to be a professor. I worked the hardest i ever worked in a class and still got a C- i never missed a lecture or a lab. i think the only way to be successful in his class is to get to know him on a personal level. Also you have to study your notes everyday.so good luck w/ Turko if you take it
I got an A+ in the lab portion, with a DIFFERENT teacher and i STILL got a D in the classes combined,, i knew all the material yet his tests were ridiculous... dont do it, unless you wanna retake it
I think turko is a good teacher. Yes you may have to work your butt off, but if you want to succeed in nursing you will have to do it at one point or another, just study your notes everyday and read the chapters and you will be fine.
Turko is a hard teacher, but this guy really knows his stuff. I never learned so much in a class than I did in his. He may not have the nicest approach with all students but study hard!
I have to say that this calss was one of my easier ones (nothing that can't be handledthough) I took this class over the summer and I loved every bit of the class. Mr Turko is wonderful and very understanding. At the end of this class, I felt like I learned something. Don't judge on people's bad comments, take the class and see for yourself.

make sure to pay attention in this class. although lectures may seem laid back at times, tests are very hard. if you're having trouble, make sure to see him as much as possible and that he knows your name. it will help with boosting your grade if you're borderline. lectures have most of the info for tests so make sure to show up to class.

I always thought the class was hard when i took it. However, being on the nursing classes, this class is not that hard at all!!! His lectures may be boring but its very important to pay attention because unlike nursing teachers.... what he teaches is what's on the tests. However, I must adress that he tends to be more eager to help female students... hmmm
To all pre-nursing students, DO NOT complain about how turko teaches this class or how he tests you on the materials! Compared to the NURSING classes, this class is much easier. Unlike the nursing professors, what he tests you on will only be the materials he taught you in class. However, he does have and inclanation to entertain female students!
i always thought prof turko was one of my hardest prof but after taking Nursing classes i realized that prof turko is the only prof that prepare me for those classes. He does test you on materials that he covers in class. Take his class if you are pre-nursing
probably one of the hardest teachers here, but he knows his****. here's your tip: tape record the lectures and pick out the little details, they're always on his tests. also, use a digital camera in lab to make study guides. he's kind of bipolar so try to stay on his good side.
Everyone says hes mean, but honestly, hes nothing but a big teddy bear. Just show you're trying and he will take notice. Dont skip classes, take LOTS of detailed notes. His lecture exams are hard as hell, but his lab exams are easy as long as you go for xtra help. Its scary how much this man knows but hes a great prof and I will def take him again!
Now I feel with this professor if you have a general knowledge of science and are good in science you should not have a problem with this professor.
SOOOOOOOOOOOO COOL. The class lecture is hard as hell but if you record it and replay it will you have your textbook, YOU WILL PASS A LECTURE EXAM !!!!!!!!!!! hardest teacher i've ever had in my whole life. He doesnt help you at all. When you ask him something he gets mad, and his lectures are very unclear. he goes way too fast and he doesn't care if you fall behind- too bad i have to take him again :(
hes probably the nicest man you will ever meet.. hes not only my favorite teacher, but my friend. just take his class in the winter or summer sessions.. its alot easier.. take great notes and pay attention and bring him coffee and tell him i say hi.. he will love you
this guy sucks. avoid taking this class if you dont need it. in fact, avoid taking any class by him. dont even think of coming to southern to be a nursing major if you have to take his class. seriously. whoever thinks turko is a nice guy, is a brown nosing fool.
Test are WAY too hard and he is very ungiving with curves. There's just no way to score a 100 on his tests.
He's a very hard teacher. His tests are crazy. If you ask him for help though, during his office hours, he's willing to help you as much as he can. Don't give up and don't stop studying and you might be able to pass with a C
so much harder than 110. here's EXACTLY how to do well in this class: 1) take notes w/ a computer so you can actually get everything down 2) review your notes daily 3) READ THE BOOK and 4) make sure he knows who you are & that youre trying. there is NO easy way about this class. but hey, if you cant pass this, dont expect to live thru nursing schoo
i wouldnt take him, his tests are hard, but he can be nice sometimes, his lab is really hard especially wen u have to disect with a cat, he gives you so many vocab words to memorize and he doesnt really help! AT ALL!!!!
Turko comes off as a hard ass, but if you let him know you are trying hes very willing to help and even slightly curve your grade. make sure you go to ALL the lectures or you will fail the test..i would try and avoid his class if possible, but if your stuck its not too bad- just make sure he knows who you are..
He likes to come off as hard and mean, but he's really a big teddy bear. You just make sure he knows who you are, that you are trying and that you are interested, and he'll help you out. He's not a bad guy. It is a very hard class though, so you have to work at it.
dont take this class unless you can teach yourself how to dissect a cat and learn 20 pages of notes for each lecture test. no help at all..
he's a really nice guy but his class is hard. the tests in lecture often have wuestions on stuff that we never had a chance to actually learn about. as long as he knows you and sees that you putting in good effort you should be fine.
dont buy the book he just wants to profit from it and u dont need it and cant sell it back. seems nice but his class is very hard. if u get Hana as ur lab teacher switch she is crazy hard and gives no study guide for her tests. However i think he curves even tho he claims not to

Very, very hard class and teacher. has so much information on the tests. Seems like a nice guy but hard to get to know him with such big classes. Need to study extremely hard in order to get a decent grade. This class is killing me at the moment and could be my downfall to becoming a nurse.

people say that as long as he knows you, youre fine. I made myself known by asking questions,he made me feel stupid for not knowing.everyone in lab was wondering the same thing, i ended up asking resulting in him yelling at me for not knowning. He finally felt bad when i cried in his office.
The guys a teddy bear, if you want to take this class and do nothing and get in A, yea right, btw if your looking for a handed grade in his course and your going for nursing re-evaluate your major. You can't be lazy, if you show him you care hes not a jerk. Remember college is what you make of it. Take his class!!!!

Dr. Turko is an awesome guy! He treats everyone like adults, and I love that. He is very clear on what he wants from you. He does not give out study guides, which can make it a little difficult with the tests, but overall he really is a great teacher. I loved this class, it was so much fun!
At first I didn't like the class and thought that he was really mean. I would study, but still didn't do well on the tests/lab. I went to see him during office times and spoke with him, and he seemed A LOT nicer,told me what I needed to pass , and spoke about my grades with me. take time out to meet with him and you'll do fine tho for the final
TURKO is the Man!!!!!! You have to put the effort and work in his class...take good notes or tape record his class which he recommends...I Learned so mouch in his class and I would take it again...Not easy but you learn alot...Turko is my BOY!!!
Turko is one of the hardest professors I've ever had. He really makes you work, and you have to really study your notes every day. Very difficult if you aren't willing to put the effort in. Good luck!

Yes,Professor Turko is a very hard teacher but U NEED TO KNOW THIS STUFF FOR NURSING!! If you cannot keep up with his class, then you have no business being in the nursing program. He is tough, but its to weed out the people who arent serious enough. Study a lot, and get extra help and you will be fine. If he sees you are trying, he will help you!

If you actually care about your grade and stay extra to study during labs he'll notice and it helps your final grade...I promis!!!
Professor Turko is a very nice guy, but it's a hard class for people not willing to listen and take notes. Attendance is a necessity, since all we did was notes everyday. But one word of advice- do not buy the large animals book. We never use it, and the school will not buy it back, despite it being a $130 book new only.
What is this guy thinking? He obviously has a MANDATE from the deopartment to flunk a percentage of the class. He realizes that we need this class to get into the Nursing dept. He needs to be G O N E

Good Class
He is very hard and very INTELLIGENT!I have had him a few times for classes and managed to get a B+ He is hard but I like his style.If you are looking for an easy way out don't take him but if you want to learn and challenge yourself then take him.Unfortunately he is retiring and will be missed greatly.
I took this class during the winter session... which i suggest you do... otherwise he is gonna suck! I manage to get a B without really try'n!
Who ever thought Summer classes would be so enjoyabl?. Prof Turko comes off a little stern at first, but as the class progresses he has such a bond with his students. He is funny, down to earth, and makes learning fun. Show you care!! He is a fair grader and wants to see you do good. I got an A in both Bio 110 + 111!! Good Luck!!
Turko is a nice teacher...tells jokes occasionally. But he is a hard teacher. If you have to take that class I recommend recording the lecture, taking pictures of the slides, and studying EVERYDAY to pass. Because you would study so hard and still get a bad grade. His tests are almost impossible, very tricky.
Turko is a great teacher. His tests are not easy, but if you pay attention in class and take good notes, they're not that hard. If you want to do well, you have to study everything and don't skip any classes!
Turko is a really cool professor when u meet him one on one but his class is extremly difficult i studied hard and still did not do well i would not suggest you take this professor
took his winter session class, VERY OVERWHELMING. a lot of information had to be given in 3 weeks, 3 lecture+lab exams. you really need to pay attention and study a lot. i absolutely love him, he's very understanding with grades and really friendly.
