I enjoyed this course. Her syllabus readings are not as lengthy as other profs'. Animals rights, vegetarianism are the main focus.. she has her opinions... encourages the class to contemplate their own actions, and form an educated opinion and lifestyle
has good knowledge in what she teaches but her preachings on animals' right and vegetarianism are tooooo much.if you're a meat lover, do not take this.the whole course is about this.
The poems she chooses are the most difficult poems one the face of the earth. She has a nice exterior but a dark interior. All old english and middle english biblical poems. She scrutinzes papers very much and dont expect to get an easy B in this class.

Hey I think she's hot. IN terms of her teaching she is a tough grader and some of the poetry is tough but if you can take it it's a comprehensive syllabus.
god...i hate her class..it seems like years are passing by as she gives a lecture. she is not a easy grader and talks too much about animal rights, makes you want to fall asleep.

great teacher! very helpful and clear about requirements. readings are interesting for the most part. not a tough grader. loves class participation(extra points). the animal rights thing is a bit too much, but the class is good. excellent proffesor.
shes a cool teacher, but picks the hardest reading assignments for each week. theres a quiz every week(pretty hard)! you have to write 2 papers. no midterm and no final. the papers account for that! if you go to her office shell help you. her grading isn't to harsh.just show effort!!
lots about animal rights but still interesting in the least you could learn a thing or 2 about what not to do to animals.
She makes you hate poetry. She gives you a headache and is very boring. I feel like sleeping. She is way too hard. I hate her syllabus. It's such a horrific one if you see it. She's very tough.
gosh how can i put it into words.....yeah it is a poetry class but damn she needs to calm down with it. She picks out the most difficult poems and expect us to analyze it in the way she does. Whatever....i don't recommend her at all she give guizzes every week!
Yes its true, her class is mostly about animal rights and it might seem she's trying to convert us all to vegans but overal she's not so bad. She;s very helpful, gives alot of reading and quizzes every week so you have to keep up. she counts participation alot, so speak up and no tests just papers.
More of an ecology class rather than an english class, I do not recommend her. Can be a tough grader. Had a guest lecture who showed us a video of cows being slaughtered and other things. It's like she's trying to brainwash us. I feel like I'm not learning anything in this class.
alex is a very sweet professor and she allows you to make up homeworks and rewrite papers. Her quizzes are extremely hard as is her grading. For and entry level poetry class, I would have rather chosen a different professor- she is too hard for those trying to grasp poetry.
Good Professor. Not too difficult and fair grader. Very cool lady though, down to earth. She's got a certain charisma.

This course was basically, Cvejic talking to herself about poetry. If anyone else tries to interpret, always disagree and push her own views. She never followed her own syllabus and was always about ten poems behind, yet she still expected us to follow it thoroughly and be ready to analyze right off the bat (in accordance with her views, of course)
Plain and simple she cannot teach. Most of the time I felt like she was trying to brainwash us. Avoid her at ALL costs. Honestly, she is not worth it.
This Professor may be a nice person, however her teaching skills are severely limited. She expects her students to live, breathe, and digest poetry. I believe in giving students the opportunity to mentally challenge themselves, but this professor is too severe with criticisms and the workload she plans for her students on the syllabus. Take caution
The work load is large, but if you do your work and participate, you'll do fine. Interesting class and teaches you a lot.
she is a very interesting teacher. as long as you hand in essays and hw and participate everyhting will be fine.
shez a kool person, easy to relate to, a lot more enjoyable if u participate, boring at first [capable of talking for two hours straight] but then became a fun and interesting class; 4 essayz [3 drafts each] and some reading comprehension/journal entries
I learned so much from this woman about poetry! Her class was very interesting and her passion helps keep people interested. The homeworks were not hard at all, there are 2 papers, and her quizzes are extremely difficult!She is a very cool professor, & I recommend her to anyone who is willing to learn!
This is woman is an arrogant ****. do your selves a favor and stay away. she catches an attitude every two seconds, teaches a 100 level course as if its grad school and her exams are impossible.she assigns 4 and 5 pages poems!!! I mean who wants to sit home for hours reading 4 pages of poorley translaated medieval poetry. this woman is a hippy nut

heres the scoop on alex. youre reading all these mixed comments about her and wondering who the heck to listen to,so ill tell you.she is a great prof.when it comes to personality. shes very sweet,helpful, and lets you make up any missed work. buthere is a catch! she is a BORE! and way 2 tough a grader for a 110!count on NOTHING higher then a c!!!
She is arrogant, as stated b4. And its true she does push her ideas on you. i thought poetry was subjective, no? I didn't like her at all. I hate poetry now, (well not really just that class,)
If you are looking for the easy way out, this prof is not for you. She is a very goof prof., but makes you work for it. Sorry, no free lunch.
She is pretty attractive looking, but I must say, that waines quicky because she is terrible! She thinks this is a grad class and is very snobby toward us. She keeps us in class for almost three hours straight without a break (we usually get out late). She just does not shut the **** up. Wouldn't recommend her at all

She's GrEAT!!! If you go to class, do all the work, participate and listen you will get an A! Just b/c you have to work hard for that A doesn't mean she's a bad professor. Also, She's anything but boring.
Shes very nice but she talks too much and makes you stay the whole time listening to her go on and on about boring things...gives a lot of reading and writing for a beginners class.I recommend taking a different teacher for English instead of her!

I do recommend her. Her class was not extremely difficult. It was as hardas a typical college course. I liked her personality as well. Her class was not boring at all, althouh I must say she did talk a lot about animal rights and vegeterianism, something tht I found not so interesting, but other than that, she was a moderate grader and sweet.
WARNING:Do not take this prof for into to poetry(W),the reading assignments are extremely lengthy(i.e.6-8 poems per class),falls behind yet still expects you to read on and will test you on material not covered in class,if you get a bad grade on a paper dont bother re-writting cuz she will only give you a half a letter grade higher, WEIRD LADY
High usage of text and tons of handouts you are responsible for printing from blackboard so get ready to spend tons of money on ink and paper,drifts off topic and makes people feel stupid if you dont analyze the poem in the manner she thinks is correct,often late to class and hold students later than the class is supposed to run,DONT TAKE HER CLASS
Totally unorganized! tons of handouts and prints which even she cannot keep track of. shes extremely unclear with what she wants from her assignments. very hard to please with papers- even if u are a talented writer. says one thing, expects another. TERRIBLE. i loved poetry until i took her class. Its either HER interpretation or NO interpretation. She talks down to her students. TERRIBLE GRADER, everyone in the class has complained about her grading. I was insulted when i received my grades on papers i wrote. VERY unorganized. cant keep up with her cause shes all over the place. DONT TAKE HER
Sure, her analysis' were somewhat clear and she's attractive, but she is completely unorganized, unfair, and judgmental. I have never been so insulted and quiet in class until I registered for her class. She's more of an unfair grader, rather than tough. Definitely do not recommend this woman!
I like to call this class tree-hugger English. Essentially, this class is an obsession of how we destroy Earth, and how mother nature is crying. After a couple of weeks, the class made me cringe. At times though, I think I made her cringe with alternative opinions. Basically, don't take this class unless you like obsessing over killing animals.
If you LOVE poetry and love to be inspired- Prof. Cvejic is definitely the prof for you! We fell off track a bit; that doesn't mean she wasn't organized! She literally gave us 2pgs explaining exactly what she wanted from us in our essays! I'm sorry, but, how can it get any easier? I truly miss her! YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR AN "A"!!
She is an okay professor. I haven't received a grade yet, but I decided to rate her anyways. She made me hate poetry. She also makes you memorize a poem, which I feel is completely pointless. She's also a very hard grader. Take her only if you really need the class.
Professor Cvejic is wonderful. She's very passionate about what she believes in and she's actually inspiring. It disappointing to read all the comments on here that put her down because of her strong beliefs. The class was not difficult. She assigned 4 essays, no exams and weekly journals. I definitely recommend her.
She plays favorites and can be snobby. She is a confusing grader when it comes to papers, leaving contradictory comments. When it comes to interpretations it's her way or no way. If you love poetry you won't mind her, but avoid if possible.
no tests, but i rather have tests than to write 1 journal/day+4 essays. it's writing intensive, so its ok, but she makes us read so fudging much!!!! its not a reading intensive class!!!! it's more eco than eng.. she plays favorites at times. she digresses a LOT. &b/c theres no test, its however she feels like giving u is ur grade. ... its torture.
She's an arrogant professor and hard grader, if u r an independent "thinker" maybe this class isn't for u. Poems have only 1 interpretation. Don't agree with her? keep ur mouth shut if u want to pass. I have a 4.0 GPA n like a challenge. A fair challenge. That's not her. Take it with another prof.
Horrible! Avoid her because the work load is intense. She needs to realize this isn't our only class. The class will ruin your gpa. Journals every week and ridiculous amount of homework. Tough grader. If you come to class and don't speak you will not do well. If you have an opinion it will be rejected if she doesn't agree with it. I dread going.
HORRIBLE. Contradicts everything she says when grading your papers. Only her opinion matters. If you don't speak she will call on you. If you do speak, whatever you say is wrong. Extremely self absorbed. Comes in late but expects you to wait 20 min. for her although the school rule is 15.
horrible professor..i had to write my final paper the way she sees the world. otherwise i would fail...what she says goes and thats it..shes always right and she is not open to hear ur ideas..does not "help" you as she should..u hand in a draft of a paper and she says "too general" but doesnt help u change it and does not offer ideas. do not take!
Prof cvejic is a pitbull of an instructor. Her mind is made up on most topics you're going to discuss, don't bother trying to contribute your thoughts. Her style could be summed up with this example of her being more than 30 mins late where instead of apologizing, she went on the offensive and blamed the secretary and the class for not waiting.
Although somewhat decent to look at... HORRIBLE! the absolute WORST teacher i have ever had. doesnt explain anything and does not accept any opinion other than her own. anyone who takes this class is going to regret it. I hope she reads this so she knows just how much i hated her class and even more how much i hate her
alright well heres the truth....she is very hard, the assignments are kind of bland and for a introduction class she makes it way too hard....on the other hand if you show up to class, show that you are trying and do the work you'll get a fairly decent grade...I got an A-
her arrogance masks her lack of preparedness. most of the material she assigned were probably part of past coursework during her undergrad or grad. which is fine but it appeared as if she's relying solely on those experiences instead of revisiting and critically rereading the works. might be better suited to teaching abroad. not up to snuff.
Interested in lots of psychology, makes you buy a $50 course packet you won't need cause all the material can be googled & read, not helpful with assignment at all bases everything on the syllabus which isn't clear she contradicts what it says. Even with all of that she's pleasant. She will be the last class open no one wants her. I don't recommend

Im kind of confused on why she's graded so poorly! She was so nice and actually made poetry fun! She gave us a journal and split the essay into two so we didn't have to write one really long essay instead just 10 journal entries and two 4-6 page essays which wasn't bad for a writing intensive! Very nice and fun! And understanding!
She is horrible!!! She is so anal about her work and she wants it done her way. If u don't do what she ask she will not grade u any better and she doesn't help you either. She just tells u look at the blackboard. Do not take her class. U will regret it!!
Professor Cvejic (now Meric) is a great professor! She is pretty straightforward in terms of what she expects of you and even though there is a lot of work she makes sure to give you enough time to do it. She is very well-versed in what she is talking about and makes class discussions quite interesting.
It's been yrs since Cvejic's class but her class will prepare you. I got an A- but that's not why. In your professional career, you will meet a variety of personalities. Learning to deal with her arrogance was a boon. My favorite memory was when she lectured a class of multinationals to travel abroad and expand their mind. I'm still laughing thx

very lecture heavy but if you listen closely you can find the most profound words, very caring a passionate has lived an amazing life and you can tell she has learned a lot about it. a difficult grader, but learned a lot
Makes you write. A ton. I cant write very well because I went to Jewish school for 12 years where the focus was Hebrew not English. I was hoping that I would be in a class that could teach me to write better. Not this one. The professor didnt spend any time on writing tips or tricks, just on how we were breaking the world ecologically. No thanks

Prof. Meric is god sent. She is so inspirational and simply an amazing professor. She enlightens and truly teaches you about what's important in life. Any chance you get, take her!! Everyone who speaks of with a foul mouth is lazy and ignorant. Put in the work and it'll pay off!
Do not take this class if you don't like writing. Tough grader and tougher character. Heavy readings, journal entires, and all you talk about is the environment. Reading intensive, doesn't feel like an entry English class. 3 papers in total.
She is by far the worst professor Ive ever had. She does not teach you a single thing about how to write well, just pushes her own agenda about how she thinks people ruin the environment. She assigns SO MUCH WORK for an entry level requirement. Avoid at all costs.
This is not an English entry class, it is more like a writing-reading intensive. She assigns so much homework, and she is also a tough grader, so there is a chance that you do all the assignments and still won't get a decent grade. I wish I hadn't taken this class, I feel that this must have been the worst of all the other English 110 classes.
You do not want this woman, trust me, she makes us print out approximately 20-40 pages of reading. Each day you have her. I have had to print out no lie 4 pages of reading for her in one week. She's pretty rude as well, she doesn't explain her assignments she just posts the directions on Blackboard and gets upset when we ask about the instructions

She quite rude to her students and spent only about the first two weeks actually talking about writing, grammar, etc. She makes us print out all her readings that are online and each one is about 20 pages, so yea 40 pages per week. But then she rants about deforestation and how harmful it is...
Professor Meric appears to have good intentions, but the work is tremendously unbearable. You literally have to print out all the the assignments and bring them to class. She spends more than half the class reviewing the homework, but she appears to be very inspirational on the topic. If you take this class do all the work and stay consistent.

I took this class during the 2020 Co-Vid 19 pandemic and things transferred online. instead of trying to make things a little easier with everything going on I feel she used this to her advantage. 2 papers due at one time. each counting a large portion of our grade? AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!
It's been a few years since I've had this professor, and she was a freaking menace to her students. Only rating her because she was memorably horrible. She's really harsh on grading, gives you a crap ton of work, forces her weird agenda down your throat. If she doesn't agree with your opinion on something, it'll affect your grade. Don't take her.
Maybe it's because everything is online atm but she's so boring and all she does is talk. Her voice makes you feel sleepy and her class is about environmental topics. We had to write three papers in total so that's ok but there were still many classes where more than one student felt lost.
This professor was an absolute nightmare to work with as a freshman during a pandemic. She appears to have good intentions, but we all care about our grade too. she will give you HARD PAPERS tons of homework weekly and fail to actually lecture on how to write. Good person, bad professor. Doesn't elaborate on assignments and discusses mainly the readings (which was a lot.) You have to constantly look at the syllabus for future events. She gives a lot of work which were confusing and doesn't give good constructive criticism. You have to stay on track of assignments and readings yourself. Don't do it girl

i took her for english 110 and if you have her make sure you're able to pay attention cause her lectures are so heavy and her tone is extremely monotone. Her assignments were really confusing and the layout used on blackboard was so disorganized and confusing.
Very boring lectures. Classes discuss the articles that were read for homework. Hardly learned anything from any of the feedback that she gave and does not give any lessons to improve your writing. On the bright side, she gives back your papers as soon as possible so you are able to read through all the unnecessary feedback given.
She is a good, semi-organized professorsome homework and short discussion boards every week. As long as you do the assignments and participate, it'll be okay. Follow the syllabus! Overall, Professor Meric is nice and cares about her students
This is hands down the BEST professor I have ever had. Her Serbian knowledge is expressed thoroughly as she explains her thoughts very well and organized. Volim te Alexandra, ajmo na kafu.
It's been years since I had Alexandra for a professor. For someone who had nearly 2 hours to speak, she really enjoyed keeping us past class time. She invalidates students' opinions, 20-40 page readings PER CLASS, PRINTED,AND NO electronic versions were permitted. An extremely tough grader and a lot of work for a 100-level class. Take another prof.
