She is a very boring teacher, hard to stay up in her class, test are fair, alot of Papers are due in her class, and she is a vey harsh and strict grader.
I dont have her, but from the sh*t that i see my friends go thru, i decided to come to this site to rate her
she looks like a red haired penguin with a white spot on her head, hws are 5 page papers and exams are ridiculously hard, this class is a waste of time and she makes it harder than it has to be. for a speech class we dont talk at all!
Teacher makes the class harder than it should be. she gives a paper every other week and makes you keep a weekly journal during the semester. almost impossible to get an A on her papers. her term paper is 15 pages. don't take her!!
She's very nice and if you do what you have to do, you should be fine in that class. Her tests are actually very easy if you study the material.
A wealth of information. Be insightful in your papers and youll get an 'A'. Take notes, show up and it's a breeze. She's a good teacher and person. :)
Very nice teacher but gives an exoribitant amount of work. Tons of readings and handouts,3 short papers, and a 7-10 page research paper. I got a B+ but would'nt take her again. Not recommended for slackers.
Horrible. Take Sugrue.
I understand what everyone means...but the trick is to seem like you enjoy the course. Talk with her after class about music (she's in a band) and she'll love you. Just do that dumb journal, read your**** and show up. I got an A in that class.
i got an A but it was probably the hardest A i ever got. defiantely worked REALLY hard for it. you have to know your stuff and write good papers and know EVERYTHING on the review sheets REALLY WELL. if you can work hard, you can do reasonably well.
Must take professor boring but easy great class to take a nap or do other work talks whole time doesnt care about participation or attendance gives only 2 papers and a final group presentation no need to buy books although gives lots of reading assignments no real need to read them to do the papers.
she is verry boring, but doable. gives alot of work more than necessary, but she returns everything really fast. not an easy A, but if u work at it, it is possible. study from the review sheets.
Gives alot of work yet she's nice. Alot of readings required...but i nevered finish any of the three books or got the fourth one. Midterm: B Final: C overall B-. Three short papers on each book, one group project: A. WOuldnt recommend! Very funny!
Shes really nice. But she really wants you to learn in her class-no fluff. She views you as a scholar and wants your work to reflect that. VERY VERY helpful and understanding.3 or 4 papers but i enjoyed writing them.be in class take notes ull be fine. her exams are real easy too.
very fair, she treats the studnets with alot of respect which is hard to get from a professor keeps the class interetsing overall good professor
Let's keep it simple. She's boring, she just read the book for the entire class time. Gives a lot of work, and the grade you get depends on her mood. Whoever says she's respectful needs to check his/her facts, last semester she interupts a student during presentation to basically tell her she's lying. The truth is avoid her at all cost.
Avoid her, unless of course you enjoy philosophy. The class was ridiculously boring, and she just talks on and on about the most absurd things, open ended and doesn't clearly give answers to questions. She gives the generic answers that will basically not help you on an exam/essay. Her class was about as much fun as paint drying. Tough grader too.
She is a great teacher, passionate about philosophy. I am really glad I had her my first semester of philosophy. She really knows what she is talking about and explains everything in detail. She isn't an easy grader on the papers but she allows you to send them in early for her to read and fix. I recommend her, highly! She makes it interesting.
Ok, so she's terrible, and very stingy and picky. For all those raters who thought she was nice, or fair, they obviously haven't had a normal professor. She's only nice if you go out of your way to impress her, or talk to her after class. Doing the work, and answering questions isn't enough, she cares about participation, i thought this way college
Sure she is passionate about philosophy, but she is a terrible teacher. She did not seem to know how to exactly teach because in the class she just read out of the required books the whole time. There is only 3 essays and a final paper required, but the questions can be answered in a simple paragraph. I would not recommend her to anyone.
kind of a blabber mouth..is actually EXTREMELY intelligent although she may come off as a moron. She cracks good jokes but the material for her Philosophy class is pretty difficult to comprehend. You MUST do the reading in the class, i didn't do so so i'm guessing thats where i messed up. no tests, many essays that seem easy but aren't, hard grader
Very intelligent person. Cracks very corny jokes. Likes participation a lot. Doesn't give tests but has a paper due every few weeks that are pretty difficult and she expects a lot out of your papers. If you call her for help shes always willing to help, you can text her at any hour and she'll make time for you. i think she should be avoided!
Had her for ethics, has a sign in sheet. Class is boring as hell. For anyone who thinks shes "intelligent", consider the fact that she thinks you can convert lead to gold. Exams are pretty straight forward, take notes and pay attention, understand her barely understandable work sheet, and you're golden. Oh, and try to read prior, she asks questions
She is very smart and dedicated to helping her studdents. Available anytime for help. But save yourself the stress. Readings are tough, and she doesn't clarify too well. Every class just goes over reading (straight from book) that we were suppose to have for homework (goes off topic alot). About 3 papers, a 7-10 pg research paper and two tests.
She's brilliant, one of the most intelligent professors I've encountered. Yet, her lectures are beyond boring, and tend to ramble. I got an A, but it was a hard earned A. She expects alot of her students, it you want an easy A, look in the other direction! Oh and theres a 7-10 pg paper!
I have her this semester, her theology papers are ridiculous. She asks us too much for a 1000c class. She doesnt take attendance, and rambles on about anything. SHe is a hard grader too. IF YOU CAN AVOID YOU SHOULD!!
Took her for intro to philosophy he is very out there. Every class she kept you till the last second and reads directly from text VERY BORING! But if you copy all the notes she writes on the board and important things she tells you to you will be fine. Midterm was take home and final was fairly easy. Support yourself in papers and you will get As.
Shes probably one of the craziest teachers at SJU. WHATEVER YOU DO.. DO NOT TAKE HER. WHAT TEACHER TALKS ABOUT MANGA IN CLASS. HER ESSAYS ARE IMPOSSIBLE AND SHES GRADES VERY TOUGH. AVOID HER
Cool person would be fun to hang with doesnt maker her a good teacher, PHI is hard enough without havin a teacher who rambles off topic. Talks fast notes are all in ramble form not very helpful because she's in her own world, midterm is a take home and final is in class test r not hard you just dont feel very prepared, I wouldnt take her again.
Good teacher though grades too hard. Pre-corrects papers. Grades based on self-improvent. Too much work on ethics and metaphysics which have their own course.
For Theology 1000, this course was much harder than it needed to be but it wasn't impossible. The papers were graded pretty tough. She is a nice lady but her teaching style is a little weird and she has some crazy opinions. Overall she isn't terrible but I would avoid her if possible.
Goes off topic often. Reads directly from book = boring. 3 papers. Take home midterm and in class final which reviews for extensively. She TELLS you what will be on final - just study her notes. Very eccentric.
Gives random pop quizzes if you don't read the book. Start the book early when you get her since it's really long. Like start it in the summer if you plan to take her. Drifts off topic to anime (extremely excited about Naruto, Bleach, etc.) Take home Midterm due to Anime Con. Her final was hard.
One of the worst classes I've ever taken. Take your laptop! She lectures for the whole class, non stop. She expects you to read the book, which is hard to grasp, every week. Only 3 essays, a paper, a midterm and a final. She grades essays harshly, so write carefully. A lot of memorization and reading involved, too much for a 1000C class. Avoid her!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Terrible teacher, doesn't care about this job always late and sometimes doesn't show up. Only 3 papers and 2 tests but she will make your class feel like its 5 hours. Only showed up on time once when she had a special guest.
She is a sweet heart for the most part BUT its not worth taking her class at all. She does ramble on and on and its VERY hard to keep track of what she is saying. It's impossible to stay awake in her class. Unless you ACTUALLY LIKE philosophy, DONT TAKE HER.
She does her best to explain the material which is helpful. You can contact her at pretty much anytime of the day that is another plus. Her notes aren't the clearest and neither are her study guides. She can be critical on essays when giving feedback.
Condescending towards students, very opinionated on her own views. A few essays, generally a tough grader.
honestly, shes not all that bad. she did try to make class interesting. a few reports and a midterm and final. An A is pretty attainable, and she does give review sheets before exams. Got a B+ when i honestly deserved lower. shes a good professor.
I agree with the person on the bottom. She really isn't that bad. Yes, she can mumble on a couple of times and her notes aren't the clearest, but she's a very sweet lady and is willing to help you when you need it. But you need to work hard. She sees you as a scholar and she expects you to be just that. A pretty cool person if you like anime. =)
Honestly the worst teacher I've ever had. Extremely rude and condescending with strong opinions and no open mind. The class itself was not very hard but the professor herself is terrible. Most of class time is spent on her ranting about her life and thinking she's funny while making the students uncomfortable. Very little time spent on material.
Truly a wonderful professor. She is extremely talented, and really cares about her students' education. You'll leave knowing the most important elements of philosophy. There were 3 papers, 1 final research paper, and the midterm and final. If you do your work, you should do well. Offers a lot of assistance and wants you to do well. She's funny too!
I don't know about you guys, but I honestly loved this class. She's such a sweet lady. Let's you send in your papers early to check for errors, sends out helpful review sheets and is generally a pretty cool person to chill with. Very passionate about philosophy and has many other interests like anime. I just wished she would arrive on time more.
Took her for the spring and I thought she was a decent professor. Yeah, she's not always on time and her notes are not 100 % clear, but that's why you can ask her for help. PHI is a lot of material but she is available anytime, so ask her. She's funny and cares about your grade. Despite my initial impression, I ended up loving her and the class.
This professor can come off condescending. She also loves to ramble and get completely off topic, in every class. She jots occasional notes down as she rambles through her personal biases about the text, making effective note taking nearly impossible. Wouldn't recommend this professor to anyone.
her class is definitely interesting. she's very very enthusiastic about her job. Her papers weren't too bad but she's a real stickler for detail. Her notes are a real pain to read though. The fact that she's easy to talk to out side of the class room is also another plus. A pretty decent teacher i think.
She's very opinionated. Tries to throw in jokes her and there to lighten up the mood. The material is so boring but she tries to liven it up. 4 papers, 1 take home midterm & a final. Make sure you get the book! She's kind of a tough grader.
She's very nice but her class is very boring. Her papers aren't that bad if you know how to B.S your way through them. She's a pretty easy grader and the midterm was take-home. Final was a repeat of the midterm with some extra questions which she reviewed in class. If you can survive the boredom, take this class. But I think she just liked me,
Avoid this professor at ALL COSTS.
I had a great interest in Philosophy and philosophers, she stole that. It was never a discussion nor opportunity to learn, just awkward references to the unexplained. Reading was forced like drinking through a full on fire hose to the face. No discussion when your always wrong and VERY condescending. Your a educator not dictator.
DO NOT TAKE HER! Her lectures are even harder to understand than the text and they are so long it is impossible to sit through one without zoning out. She expects way to much from a Philosophy 1000C class. She doesn't realize we all just take the class for core credit, not because we want careers in philosophy.
Basically she doesn't give any homework or tests besides the midterm and final. Midterm was really easy. Three 3-page papers per semester, i know absolutely nothing about philosophy from that class (my fault) but managed to get A's on all of them, so those are fairly easy. Cool prof.
Very passionate about philosophy and is able to explain it in a way for everyone to understand. I thought I was going to hate Ethics - even though i love philosophy-This class made me wish I minored in philosophy. Subject matter is very relevant, if it doesn't make sense, then I don't understand how anything else in the world does to you...
Prejudiced, just reiterate what she has to say and don't express your own opinions otherwise she'll yell at you
She's honestly a really great teacher despite what some of the reviews say here. She allows you to show her your papers early so she can tell you what you need to work on - and that's quite amazing in my opinion. Lectures can become a little boring, but you do have to put in some work to get a good grade.
Run, only take her if you have to. She is really helpful but it's impossible to read everything for this class. Only read when you have essays due and work hard on your essays. She gives a lot of hints for tests and essays. The more of her opinion on your paper the better. smh
I do not recommend this professor, but she's decent. Here is how to succeed, in the case that you do have her: 1. Take notes of lists and things she repeats 2. Repeat concepts from lectures in your papers 3. Study in groups for tests 4. Start your research paper EARLY 5. Have her pre-read papers - loves it 6. TALK in class - loves it
She is so unclear about everything. Would always have us get into groups, discuss and then get in front of class. GO to midterm and final review sessions as she reviews exactly what will be on the final. Try and get your paper in early so she can give feed back before it is due, it will help. She's strange and makes jokes that no one laughs at
She thinks she is being very clear, but is hardly even explaining. Her lectures are long, and she talks a lot and there is awkward pauses when people don't laugh at her jokes. She expects people to read the entire chapters of the book in the week. (40-60ish) pages of small text. However help was always there if you needed/could find time for it.
Disrespectful and opinionated. Spends lectures getting off topic and not discussing what you need to know. Only likes you if you suck up to her. If you're not that type of student... DO NOT TAKE HER! You will not do well. If you absolutely need the credits, pass/fail this course.
Tough but fair & very approachable. True to syllabus. Lots of reading but that's philospohy. Lot of papers but she accepts drafts & is eager to help. Lots of notes on board, multiple choice exams, gives reviews & a study sheet. You wont do well if you dont show up, sulk in the back quietly, dont write papers & dont ask for help when you need it.
I loved her. Weird sense of humor and opinionated but great professor. Take notes as she talks! Not just what she writes. A few 3 page papers and a research paper at the end and a multiple choice midterm and final. Half of the final is the midterm so just study straight from there. I don't love philosophy but learned a lot and am taking her again.
She's a very good teacher but requires a ridiculous amount of work. There's multiple required textbooks that are LONG. Lots of reading. Papers due often with minimum amount of quotes from books. Lengthy research paper. Gives many ways to reach her and she responds often. She's willing to help, but you have to work VERY HARD for a good grade.
She was an okay professor. Most of her lectures are boring. There were three papers, a research paper that has to be 7-10 pages and a midterm and final. she's thinks that our life revolves around philosophy, but for most people this is just a requirement. I feel if you don't agree with her opinion, its wrong and you really have to prove your point
she has spent most of her life studying philosophy and I feel as though she doesn't understand that we are new to this. For me, philosophy is really hard to understand. if you like philosophy and understand it easily, this class won't be bad for you but for me it was a little hard and boring. If you study for the midterm, it will be easy.
Prof. Honigsberg is okay. She really likes philosophy, but her lectures get boring. She makes you write three 3-page papers and 7-10 page research paper. If you use a lot of quotes from the required textbook, you'll get a good grade on the papers. The textbook is HUGE so try to find a PDF. Study the outlines for midterm and final for a good grade.
She makes no sense. I don't just mean her assignments, I mean when she teaches. She goes on and on about herself, her music, randomly says words in other languages I guess to impress you? The amount of actual teaching compared to her self love is just sad. Very nearly ruined philosophy for me, but then I realized she wasn't actually teaching any.
I passed her class and all I remember was that she was not a good professor
Professor Honigsberg is very lecture heavy. She enjoys getting off topic and a lot of lectures are confusing. There are a few papers and a research paper. If you add quotes from the textbook, she'll give you a good grade. If you don't, she won't bother grading your paper or you'll get a bad grade.
She talks about nothing that really matters the entire class period. She makes the subject so hard to understand. If you study her final and midterm exams well you will pass the exams.
Expects students to read 6-8 primary sources and understand them every three days. Very confusing lectures and very cringey person overall. I took biomedical ethics and none of the philosophical background we learned had much to do with anything with modern issues. To do well, read the summaries of HW, review the miderm/final packet she gives.
Don't even bother with this class. 100% a waste on your money. Her teaching methods are awful and her exams are the pettiest thing I have ever seen.
Had her 1st semester freshman year horrible prof. Lectures are just about philosophers' views from book no actual discussion of the material. 3 papers require to cite from textbook, which readings are hard to understand. Tough grader gets upset when you don't agree with her or your views on the papers don't align with hers. Don't take.
She's there for you if you ask her questions or need help with something, however she is VERY patronizing and enjoys talking so much to the point where she will cut you off/not let you finish a sentence and just keeps rambling on and on. She comes off as disrespectful sometimes. She worships the textbook. Study her review sheets for the tests.
she is terrible, if you don't agree with her views she will grade you more harshly and not let you speak. She will cut you off and always has the last word. she LOVES to talk and doesn't discuss the material. Just talks about it with no opportunity for debate. don't take it.
AVOID. She literally said philosophy is more important than orgo or bio, and rambles about her music and brags about her residency or something (which no one cares about). She is very approachable, but extremely rude. Very condescending in her emails when you ask for help, and roasts students on her fb account. Avoid at all costs.
DO NOT TAKE HER! AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS! She thinks her class is more important than orgo and as a pharm major I can guarantee you that it is not. If you ask her a question she will give you a nasty attitude and treat you like you're dumb. She also likes to talk poorly about her students on her facebook statuses. Do yourself a favor and don't take.
Extremely unprofessional professor. Honestly do not know how she was approved to teach by the university as an ADJUNCT. She takes classroom matters and publicizes them on Facebook, where others also chime in and add their input-- making students feel incompetent as learners in an academic discourse environment. Avoid.
Don't take the class. She is obsessed with the textbook, which is very confusing, and the essay questions she gives are hard to write full papers on. Study the review sheets and you will be fine for the midterm and final
A lot of reading and shes rude if you don't know what your talking about. her midterm and final are so easy surprisingly. Her papers are grader harshly but you can get an A if you work
Philosophy is not an easy topic to understand, and I think she made it fun and interesting. Heavy readings on the textbook and hard to understand but she breaks them down pretty well. surprise group work on the readings so try to at least skim them to get a couple of points or the main idea. i would take her again
I asked her to write a reference letter for a job opening once, and later the employer showed what she wrote for me. It was the sweetest thing; plus, as an actual teacher, she was understanding and helpful towards me. One time she saw me crying & was so kind to me. She looks like the drama teacher from the original Highschool musical cast lol
If possible, do not take her. She expects you to know everything and is not very helpful if you don't understand something. Most of the time her explanations just made me more confused. She also talks badly about her students on Facebook. Lots of reading, writing, and group work.
textbook based. long papers and she grades pretty harshly. lots of philosophers to remember and concepts so i wouldnt take again. she is very understanding when you email her though, and she is communicative ( which is why i gave 2 stars instead of 1 lol ) boring lectures though.
Avoid taking this professor at all costs! All she does is rip on her students and thinks the world revolves around her and actually curses at her students. She has a very arrogant attitude and she posts about her students on facebook. She expects you to read about 60 pages and know all the information in a week.
She is the most unprofessional professor ever. She has a poor attitude and is very snappy, anything you say she will try to embarrass you. There are 4 papers in total including the research paper which is 7-10 pgs long. Textbook needed 100% and lots of group work. I could go on and on about her..AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I warned yall..
TERRIBLE! So unprofessional and RUDE. Not considerate of anyone's time or personal issues. We did the same thing every single day. Individually, sit there and listen to her talk for 2 hours. If you ask a question, she will embarrass you. OBSESSED w/ the tb. We had to read 200pgs a week. We did group work 4x the whole semester. PLS AVOID HER!
I selected the hilarious tab because she is HILARIOUSLY bad at her job!! She is very RUDE to her students, and she makes me feel like the little coward that my high school bullies made me feel like for the last 4 years! I thought I finally escaped them by coming here, BUT I DIDN'T!!! I have cried myself to sleep for the last 2 weeks b/c of her:(
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but I couldn't handle it and dropped it. She lectures and rambles, yet she says nothing useful or worth remembering and then expects you to write a paper on it. She expects you to learn the material by reading hundreds of pages from the textbooks. Avoid her at all costs!!
I am unfortunately taking her right now, and I don't think I can emphasize this enough, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She is extremely condescending and intense. She wants all of her papers printed out and she will not accept papers any other way. Every time I had the misfortune of speaking to her, she was extremely rude.
Extremely tough grader when it comes to papers and tests/quizzes--will not give you partial credit on tests and papers that require you to use quotes from at least 3 different assigned texts. Lectures are unstructured and unorganized--no PowerPoint/Google Slides. Highly recommend either dropping or withdrawing from this class.
This person is the definition of inconsiderate. She has made advances toward me in class acting very unprofessional. The fact that she is still employed at this institution is more remarkable than me fantasizing about getting an A in this class. She assigns over 200 hundred pages of reading every week.
awful. This is the only review of a professor i have ever written. probably my last. but this one felt necessary. Really, really horrible, rude, calls students out, half the class stopped showing up midway through the semester. She missed about 8 classes which also was not helpful for anyone. Surely theres a middle school teacher more qualified
This was a required class for me and when I finally had here, there were no other teachers available so I will say LEAVE ONCE YOU SEE HER NAME ON THAT SCHEDULE. The 3 page papers weren't too bad but she only wants you to write based on her opinions. Her class is pretty much about playing her game and that's all that matters.7-10 page research paper
This was a required course for me and the professor was the only available one left. All she does for the duration of the class (3 hours) is talk. She expects you to know the material before she even teaches it and if you don't she makes you feel dumb. Good luck if you don't buy the textbook because that's the only thing she uses to teach.
idk why anyone would give her a 5 star review she's actually terrible and needs to get her teaching license revoked. run as fast as possible when you see her name on UIS. you will not learn a single thing trust me.
Lots of reading due every week from the textbook. You will be lost if you don't read and you won't be able to participate. You're expected to bring the book every class which is tough for commuters. The 3 hour lecture is boring. She demands a lot for a 1000 course. Her review sheets are very indicative of what's on the exam so use them to study.
She doesn't seem to be bad a person, but she just yaps all day. Her class is 100% lecture heavy. She makes us buy a book that looks just like a bible, and we have to read each "part" every week. Her content does not make sense at all. In my opinion, a useless class, but it was mandatory. If you could pick another professor, I recommend you do!
Gossips abt students on Facebook. Even if you ask a simple question, she will post. No matter what you do, expect excessive bullying. Very small class; they will know your grades. Enjoys failing ppl & will loudly make a rude comment if you pass. Will always find a mistake. Berated a girl for looking happy until she cried. Bullying is not teaching!
spawn of satan don't take her.
Professor Honigsberg has a very specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class can be manageable. The textbook is heavily used, so Unstuck AI and other resources can help with study prep.
Try your best to steer clear of her. I got lucky and managed to pass with an A but she can be very condescending and judgy when you're not familiar with certain concepts. She gossips about her classes on her Facebook if even one thing doesn't go right. Gives you a zero if you miss even one requirement on a paper (There's 4 papers total + a final)
Yeah just incase you were wondering, the reviews about her facebook aren't a joke. You can even look up her facebook right now and I'd guarantee you'd find a post of her complaining about a class. She forgets we're adults and can see that. If the papers don't meet all the source requirements, (and i mean from her THREE TEXTBOOKS), automatic zero
