Goes fast, but good for notes. Very helpful.
A little stern at first, but she loosens up. She moves very fast, but does a great job lecturing in a note taking friendly manner. WARNING!~she doesn't curve so you have to stay on the ball.
She is a great professor. She is clear and concise and does a great job of going over the material. I highly recommend her. She goes very fast so you need to pay attention.
I recommend Alexandra Nichifor for Math126!
She is awesome (to sum up). She's one of those professors who belongs in the classroom.
Very clear, organized, and helpful. Probably the best math prof I've had, yet.
best math teacher i've ever had...personable and fair quizzes and tests
She simply ROCKED.She was definitely a little stern at first but she has a sense of humor and is an EXCELLENT teacher. The only drawback is that she talks REALLY fast;but she writes ALL the notes on the overhead so that you can copy (A HUGE PLUS COMPARED TO OTHER LAZY MATHPROFS). She is also very dedicated~she hosts review sessions before midterms.
I had a hard time learning the material, but Alexandra made the class fun than perhaps most professors would. I enjoyed her sense of humor and she was very interested in how well her students learned. She was awesome!!
Very good prof. I recommend her for Math 310
Nichifor is an excellent teacher. She explains things very clearly, is interested in how her students are doing and knows her stuff. The class was hard though and you have to really know the material to get a good grade.
She was the best math teacher I've had! Her notes were VERY organized which helps a lot when you studying.
I highly recommend her as a teacher. She was one of the best math teachers I've had and was extremely organized with how she ran the class. She's also a lot of fun.
Best math teacher I have ever had!! Very organized (notes, keeps class website updated weekly, etc). Very helpful!!
she's an excellent teacher! she's definitely one of those teachers who are interested in whether her students learned or not. always available for extra help when you need it. if u take math111/112 aim to get her
great teacher and a very nice lady. if you're decent in math, you'll do fine in 111. just cross your fingers on getting a TA who isn't anal when it comes to grading hw. the hw load is probably the only bad thing about the class. just stay on top of it and you'll ace the section activities, 2 mid terms, and the finals.
difficult to understand
good!
The best math teacher I've ever had. She is always willing to help you if you need it and is quite friendly. I would reccomend her to anyone.
She is a wonderful and jolly woman who explains everything so that everyone understands the material
Good teacher. Very helpful and friendly. Easy to communicate with if you have a problem.
She is the by far my favorite prof. She helps make you feel better if you're nervous about the midterm or exam, by making you feel prepared/confident. In class her style of teaching is: organized, clear, and very easy to understand. She cares whether the class is doing well or not, overall. i would recommend her to anyone.. take her if you can!!!!!
During her lectures, she: writes out all the formulas you need to know, write in diff. colors to see the connection or where she's getting the #'s from, have sessions before midterms/exams, class website is always updated, always post up important summarized info/formulas you need to know for exams. Last, her office hrs are really, REALLY HELPFUL!
take her if you can. she is very helpful & nice & does her best to make sure you understand the material.
Well structured class, she is good at understanding students questions and has a fair standard grading structure.
Excellent teacher in general. Still maintains her thick accent so its at times difficult to understand, but like everyone said, she is very clear and more than makes up for her accent and sometimes unclear speech.
AMAZING professor! Know what she's doing. Believe me, she knows the stuff. You can ask basically any questions and you will get your help from her! She held lots of extra office hours + review sessions. Always available for help. Answer email even pass midnight. I had a lot of fun in her class. Gotta love the group presentation. Highly recommended
Great professor. She was very clear in explaining subjects that were otherwise hard to grasp. Highly recommended.
Very organized. Good explanations
She was a very good teacher. Her class is generally easy for math 111. She does not grade on a curve unless the entire class does bad which rarely happens. I recommend her for math 111. If you are half way decent in math and work semi-hard you should be able to pull a 3.5 or higher.
She knows her stuff! Great professor for this class, very helpful, but doesn't take any BS from students who do not listen or slack off. Going to class and sections is a must if you learn by the examples given and practice problems. Very organized and easy to follow.
Very well organized and clear. Also very personable when compared to other math professors.
She is one of the best math teachers I've ever had in my life. Most people in math usually can't teach, but her classes were very straightforward and she knows her material. Very nice and helpful too, as she always puts time aside for office hours. I highly recommend her if you're going into 124 or 125.
I loved having Alexandra Nichifor as a Math professor. She was very clear about the concepts she presented and is very approachable and nice. She is always willing to answer a question and makes resources for help clear such as her office hours and math study center. Very organized syllabus and not too study intensive.
Probably the best math teacher I have ever had. I was up to calculus in HS but math never sticks, so I had to take Math 111 and it was a good class. She is very thorough in her explanations and puts the lectures at ease so you can ask questions. Math assgn are about 15 questions each, a lot with at least a-c subquestions within each question.
Great professor! I never skipped a lecture because she teaches everything you need to know there and is extremely clear. She is funny, has a great accent, knows her stuff better than most, is extremely attractive, and respects students. Homework never is too much and she prepares you sufficiently for exams. Probably my favorite math instructor ever
Wow, Beautiful lectures. So friendly. She never makes you shy to ask questions. She uses time so wisely! She is very close with TA's so TAs know what they are talking about, when asked about test's difficulty or material covered by it. She will answer all your questions. In addition, her classes start real nice with her math jokes.
i took ap calc as a senior but was placed into math 111. the first part of the semester was the hardest because you just draw lines the entire time. the tests were straight forward and were similar to the ones she posted online.
Sometimes I find myself relying completely on the textbook when it comes to the more abstract concepts in any course. However, Nichifor's lectures were always valuable to me, no matter the topic. Given the time constraints, she gives unbelievably good explanations of involved concepts. She is one of my favorite math teachers.
Very sweet lady, material is pretty easy, but sometimes the textbook (which is pretty much a compilation of worksheets) has these unnecessarily tedious ways to do the same thing as what you did in 7th grade. Study old midterms and finals and go to review sessions before tests. Easy class in my opinion, just learn their methods thoroughly.
Nichifor is one of the sweetest professors I have had at the UW. She is extremely helpful during office hours if you go talk to her and the material is not too difficult. Try to make friends with your TA and if not, go talk to her she wants her students to succeed!
Professor Nichifor is an amazing instructor and anyone who has the chance to take her, should! I had her twice and it was the best teaching experience I have had thus far. She is welcome to help anyone and her tests are extremely fair.
I had professor Nichifor for Precal. She puts in a lot of effort, and definitely cares about the success of her students. As far as math classes at UW go, she's definitely one of the better professors here. No big surprises on tests. Clear requirements. Plus, she uses a reader instead of a real textbook so you save like a hundred bucks.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! She made math easy and simple. When I took her she posted all the lectures on screencast so you didn't really have to go but I wanted to just because. She is very kind and is there to help you. She goes over problems that will appear on the homework before you start working on it so that once you start, it's simple. Recommend
Awesome prof! Crystal clear, helpful, made me feel confident about math. I'm rubbish at math and this class gave me the confidence to continue taking math. Subject matter isn't too difficult, and it's basic stuff a person should know about business math. SO helpful and understanding. Very fair. Never had a bad lecture.
She is extremely kind and generous with her time during office hours and in class. Very helpful. I cannot stress this enough, GO TO LECTURE. Its seems pointless at times, but it's the best way to understand concepts covered on hw and exams, and it will make the class a breeze.
math 111 and 112 are very easy, especially for the Gpa, but the only problem is theres an ungodly amout of hw, but u can copy ur frds anytime, besides tht its fine. I would take it even if it is not required, for the Gpa
Best professor I have EVER had. So helpful, outlines everything you need to know. Puts a lot of time and effort into her students. I have had her for Math 11 and 112, she has actually made me like math. Do not take any other math professor besides her! Amazing!
Best teacher by far
awesome professor! she makes all the material really clear and easy to understand. I had never taken calc before 112 and I ended up with a pretty good grade. There's a decent amount of homework but it was all really helpful in understanding the material.
Dr Nichifor is an awesome professor.
Best college professor!!!! I would recommend everyone to take her class! Although she made the final for Math 112 really hard, overall she is a great teacher!
BEST professor ever!
BEST professor I've had so far :] I barely went to lecture since I could just read through book, however when I do attend, she makes sure that you understand what you're doing. If someone is confused, she'll stop and clarify the best to her abilities. Her tests are pretty easy
Excellent professor. She explains concepts extremely well and truly cares about her students. The class wasn't curved, but the test averages were high so it works out well.
One of the best professors I've had. Super clear in explaining material and she makes jokes in class. Would love to take a class from her again.
I highly recommend you guys to take her class! Go to her class. She lists key points clearly and makes good examples.
I know this is a little early, but she isn't teaching much of the material needed to do the homework or presumably do well on the tests. The quiz sections -- and I have spoken to many people about this -- are a complete waste of time. Homework is due on Tuesday but you won't be taught how to do the last chapter til Mon. Each chapter takes ~10hrs.
Best math professor ever. Clear lectures with lots of helpful examples, really willing to help (go to office hours!) and cares if you learn.
A wonderfully helpful math professor. She makes the material easy to understand.
Actually wants her students to succeed in this very hard and frustrating class. Has multiple office hours and reviews before midterms. As for class content, it is dictated by the math department and not in her hands. This class is HARD.
Dr. Nichifor is an amazing professor. She explains everything super well & wants to make sure that you understand the concepts she teaches, she holds a ton of office hours and reviews before a test. Super clear and helpful! During lecture, she will give you all the formulas you need to know and give a ton of examples as well.
Nichifor was a really nice professor, she was really clear in her examples. Her tests are really too easy though. the average was around 43/50 for both of her midterms.
I loved this professor, she made things easy to understand and she wasn't boring. She usually puts up a math joke on her powerpoints and a lot of them were super funny
I loved Nichifor because she was so clear and concise...definately a mathematician. Attending class helps a lot but it is okay if you miss it. If you study a lot you will score well on the tests. The math study center was key to getting the online homework done...overall, really enjoyed this class. good experience.
I worship her! Nichifor makes sense out of everything and she does some problems in lectures sometimes so students could understand the application of the formulas. Really helpful, extra office hours before exams/quizzes, easy exams (as long as you pay attention in class), plus she's really cool.
She was a pretty great teacher and really helpful. I am glad that I got her instead of Conroy, she has a lot of quizzes but they are helpful when it comes to studying for the midterms. You just have to apply yourself and keep up with the homework.
The professor is wonderful! She tries her best to let us know what she is teaching, and explains everything clarified. GREAT PROFESSOR EVER :)
Great professor gives everything needed and tests are easy.
Professor Nichifor restored my interest in math again! She is a fantastic instructor who truly loves math, and she is never very boring at all. I'm so glad that I will have her again next quarter for MATH 112.
Really nice teacher and cares about how her students do. She will help you out whenever you need. It helps to be in class, but she puts all her notes online. MATH 120 is a hard class anyway, but she does her best to allow her students to do well.
Shes definitely one of the best professors I have had so far. She's really approachable and cares about her students. You don't really need to attend class because all her lectures are online and they're really detailed, but she's good at explaining. Study hard and you'll do well on the tests.
Very clear with very good lectures. Midterms are a little too easy so the curve is incredibly high which means one small mistake could mean a big grade difference. Always has a joke before class that's actually funny. Didn't get as high a grade as I expected, but overall she is a very good professor and I would recommend trying to have her.
Best math professor I have ever had! I loved her explanations and she was extremely approachable. She always made herself available outside of class. Her midterms were really easy, but I still felt really prepared going into the final. Definitely take her class if you can!
this professor is perfect for students who don't go to the lecture like me -- she posts whole lecture note to the website. you can get all you need to learn on the notes.
Very difficult teacher. Never used the textbook. She goes REALLY fast through the material, so don't daydream and take good notes. Use the tutors and TAs as much as possible. They're very helpful!
Definitely the best math prof. at UW!
Easily one of the best professors at UW. She is very approachable, helpful and takes interest in her students. Her exams are not meant to trick you, but really test you on what she teaches you. Take her class if you have the choice.
great professor who cares about her students. easy math class and homework are all online. only two midterms and a final.
Excellent, excellent teacher. Very nice, clear examples, by far one of the best and most caring professors I've had. However, she is so good at teaching, medians go crazy high. One midterm was 86% median, where other classes were about 60%. Come to learn, not for a high grade. I understood everything and performed well, but still got a poor grade.
Loved her and her class. I feel like she treats us like her children, meaning that if we succeed then that means that she succeeds! She gives all sorts of extra help especially before the exams. She is so helpful to the point where so many ppl in the class got high grades in the midterms so they had to give us an extremely hard final :(
The best math professor ever. She is so nice and so helpful at the same time. Don't hesitate to ask questions because she is more then happy to answer them. But she moves very quickly and you don't have time to not pay attention. Every lecture is crucial.
Great teacher! Very clear and helpful. Lecture is informative and interesting, easy to go to.
She is good, and exams are much more easy than other sections.
Professor Nichifor is an AMAZING professor! 1 of the best I've had! She truly cares about her students. She regularly stops to ask if we have any Qs. She puts her notes online, but it really is best to go to lecture. Before exams she offers extra review sessions. I am not naturally good at math & I got a 3.5. Also go to the MSC. DEF RECOMMEND!
Prof Nichifor is an AMAZING professor! 1 of the best I've had! She truly cares about her students. She regularly stops to ask if we have any questions & offers extra review sessions outside of class before exams. Her lectures are well-structured. She posts her notes online, but it really is better to attend lecture. I recommend her over Loveless.
She is an amazing professor. Attending the class is not mandatory because she uploads al the notes and screencasts online, basically you can learn well at home. She provides a lot of resources, clue, review session and practice exams. The exams are not hard as long as you follow her lecture. You can get used to her accent after one class.
Best math professor I have ever had.
She is so amazing as a professor and she is also such a nice person!!I really enjoyed her class and she really cares about her students!!!
She is great!!! Really helpful!
great prof who knows her stuff and cares about the student. not that easy of a class but do the work, study the book, and you should be good
LOVE NICHIFOR! Her accent is lovely, and she really cares about her students. She is clear about everything, screencasts, and her tests are certainly not torture. She is clear about what things you should know and what you will be tested on.
Professor Nichifor is thorough in explaining concepts in class, although she explains them rather quickly. I personally take a long time digesting new info. I went to a couple of her office hours and review sessions she explained topics in more detail then. The copious notes that she uploads online is definitely a plus.
The classes are amazing and the notes are clear. She would post her lecture note clearly online so that you can still follow the class even though you miss it. Go to her office hour, she is patient and nice. If I have chance I would keep taking her class!
Professor Nichifor is so awesome, I would highly recommend her to anyone, if you see that you are enrolled in her class, be thankful! The midterms are not bad at all if you study a few days before and look over her old tests.
Love her class. She likes to make little jokes here and there to lighten the mood, and she's very thorough with her explanations. Her tests are fair and straight forward. Show up to lecture and you'll be fine.
Was in disbelief when I heard Professor Nichifor had a 2. something on here. Clearly it was the wrong prof. She's so good that I would write a review in her defense if this were the case! Clear and concise in her teaching. Funny and personable in her personality. No doubt one of the better professors at UW.
Hands down the best math prof I have had at UW - and I've had some good ones. We had group homework which I thought was weird initially but turned out to be super helpful. Prof. Nichifor makes herself super available to students and gives clear answers to questions. Expectations were very clear and she genuinely wants you to do well and love proofs
Sometimes awkward at times, but she is trying. She is always there to provide as much help as she can for the students. She is definitely accessible, on canvas, e-mail, and the math study center. Her exams have questions that you have to read over carefully, but definitely easy to understand what they're looking for. Very clear, helpful, and kind.
I did better than I expected, but still just "meh" probably because I am just awful at math and hate it. But she's super nice and funny, love the math jokes! She lectures very quickly so if you are prone to spacing out (like me) you'll struggle a little. Overall, she's a wonderful prof, I'm just bad at math. Take her class!
I have never rated anyone before on here and specifically came just because she is probably one of the best professors at UW. Her lectures are extremely clear tjough fast paced and she is always willing to help. Going to her lectures is key to acing this class and trust me they are so good, you wont even notice where the time went.
Great prof, explains concepts and example of when students make mistakes and how to fix them. I was happy I did quite well on the MTs.
She explains the concepts really well and while she expects you to know basic calculus, she'll teach most of the new concepts in class which was really helpful! She walks through your questions with you so that you actually understand and gives you a lot of helpful tips and tricks to solving the problems faster. A very competent professor!!
Visited her before WI quarter because I have never taken an online class and she showed me everything that I would be doing. Very accommodating when I had a physics exam the same day as her exam. Always tells when her office hours are in emails. Clear lecture/lecture notes. Just do well on the Homework, DO NOT FALL BEHIND. and You'll be okay.
Best Grader Easy tests
Professor Nichifor is an amazing teacher. She knows the material very well. If you attend lectures and complete homework regularly, you will receive a reasonable grade in her class. Do recommend to take this class!
Nice to find a professor at this school that actually cares about their students/work. Highly recommend!
Professor Nichifor is the kind of inspirational, caring, and self-less professor that you look for in a college. She truly does care about her students and makes the extra effort to make sure she does the most she can to help them understand difficult material. Also, she is always so positive and smiling which is encouraging to students.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Prof. Nichifor really cares about her students and wants them to do well, and is available and willing to meet with you to make that happen. Her tests were hard but very fair; wouldn't test on anything we didn't explicitly go over. Do whatever you can to get into her class, she is amazing!
Great Lectures, exams are slightly difficult, but very fair :)
She is a very nice and helpful teacher. Honestly speaking, her tests are not difficult at all compared to other professors in the math department as long as you listen to her lectures and do your homework carefully. If you go to her office hour, she will give you very useful information about how to solve math problems and prepare for the tests.
Lectures are confusing and hard to follow because of her strong Russian accent. Spends the first 15 minutes of EVERY 50-min lecture going over "announcements" that are accessible on Canvas. I learned more from the MSC tutors more than I ever did from her. There are only 3 tests, consisting of 2 midterms and 1 final, that are extremely difficult.
She's a decent math professor. Her tests are very clear and straight forward she never tries to trick you. She is helpful during office hours as long as you bring questions to ask her.
I took up to Calculus in high school but that was 4 years ago since I even touched math in school. But Dr. Nichifor breaks down the common sense so everyone is on the same page. Grade is heavily weighed by tests but if you do well in Webassign and past test practices, you can definitely get higher than a 3.5.
Very kind, tries to make math interesting, cares about students. She has lots of office hours.
P. Nichifor made me like math, which I normally detest. She is so funny and kind. She cares that her students learn! Her lectures are very clear, and lecture notes are posted online. However, it is best to show up to class, because she goes through processes in a very clear manner, and you don't want to miss it. Past exams are useful for studying.
her tests are super easy, pay attention and stay on top of everything and you'll do well.
She's a really kind-hearted person, and her tests are super straightforward. In my honest opinion they're easier than the rest of the math department's. Go to her office hours! She basically helps you with everything there and is super approachable.
Math 125 is a hard class, but I think that Nichifor is a pretty good choice for it. She does panopto so you can look back at lectures, but I found it easier to just attend. The homework is tough but fairly reasonable. The two midterms and final are weighted heavily at 80% all together and she does not drop and homework grades.
She taught taught math 125 well, but this class is just so unnecessarily hard. I took calculus in high school and went to multiple tutors for this class and I'm at a 2.3... She's very useful in office hours, but sometimes she was condescending to me but I got over it. She's funny and very nice, but I just had a horrible time with her tests and calc
she is good lecturer, very clear teacher because we do the lesson each single day; expect to do lots of homework problems out of textbook and the online hw
Super sweet and super organized. I guess you could skip class if you want, but don't. Her lectures are organized to allow you to succeed if you go to class, pay attention, follow along with the problems, and do the homework yourself. I did this, and a few of the practice exams before tests, and it was an easy 4.0.
I took math 125 online with Dr. Nichifor. She is definitely one of the best math profs at uw. She really cares that you know the material well and will never trick you on exams. This is not an "easy a" class but she will make the material very clear and you can master all topics with enough practice. Talk to her via piazza you won't regret it!
Lectures are really good, so tests are a bit on the tougher side. Very approachable.
I think she is very nice. Math 126 has a lot of new and difficult concepts but she is so nice about explaining them. The most helpful thing for me was reading the textbook before the lecture so that it made a lot more sense. That made the lectures easier to understand. Also, there was a lot of online homework, which was difficult and time consuming
Strong lecturer, probably one of the best math lecturers for introductory calculus courses at the University of Washington. Super clear. Amazingly interactive and kind. Take her!
She is an incredible teacher considering the difficulty of the subject. The tests are difficult, but she makes them as clear as she can considering the math department's rules. Also I loved how she focused more on concept than algebra, with the tests not too algebra heavy. 10/10 would choose her again for calc 3
Clearly explains content and I was in an online lecture so I could always go back to whatever concept I wanted to review. There are a lot of homework and worksheet problems due online, so just make sure you set aside some time each day to work on them. She gives you a pdf course schedule so just stick to that and you will be fine. Available for Q's
Overall she is a very caring professor, and even curved our class very generously. However, at least for math, she lacks in the fact that she hasn't taught MATH 126 alot so there aren't a lot of previous midterms you can study off of. Additionally, her midterms lie on the easier side, so if you make a small mistake it will hurt your score more.
Amazing professor that's great at explaining concepts.
Online class. Highly recommend, since you don't need to go to class, nor quiz section and can re-watch any lecture over again. Super beneficial for midterm/final prep. Tests are on easier side. Explains extremely well. Caring for students' success. Homework is long for every math class so either way. Take her. Best math teacher.
Professor Nichifor was an amazing teacher. She was always willing to explain even basic concepts multiple times and was so cute when she shared her nerdy math jokes before class. She broke down tough concepts into easily understood bits, and all of her lectures were really understandable. She worked really hard to be accessible outside of class :)
was in the middle of using piazza when i had to go write this review because at midnight on a monday she was responding to students questions where they took a picture of their work, and she would respond by annotating their picture of their work. She is so thorough and hardworking. Goes above and beyond. Good at explaining too.
Professor Nichifor is an AMAZING teacher. She explains things in great detail, makes sure to go over every component in a concept, and is very organized. I have struggled with math for all of my past math classes but when I had her as a professor, I succeeded with a 3.7.
Calculus was a hard class for me, but the example she gives and the time she dedicates to her students is beyond what I have seen from the Math department. She is teaching Calculus, which was difficult for me, but she is the best person for the job. As long as you do the homework and dedicate time to understand the concepts, you will pass.
One of the best math lecturers in the 124/125/126 series!! Very clear and easily understandable teaching!! Very resourceful and very confident in the material!!! Although because the midterms are slightly easier than some of the other classes there's really no room for silly mistakes.
Professor Nichifor gives the BEST math125 lectures! Her examples in class make you think about different ways to solve the problems and why they can be solved that way with and without calculus. She is able to easily pick up on how well students are understanding the content and knows exactly how to make the content better to understand.
Yoo this woman is hella chill, definitely go into office hours and get help cause that helped me tons! Math 125 is the hardest math of the series but she makes it bearable :)
Absolutely wonderful lecturer, funny, and very friendly in office hours. Midterms & final were entirely fair. She also offered extra review sessions in addition to the CLUE ones, posted notes on Canvas, wrote midterm review sheets, and computed prospective GPAs throughout the course. Just went above & beyond in every respect. Good handwriting.
Calc was a hard class for me but Nichifor is a knowledgeable and engaging professor. She's funny too, and she tries to keep the class involved during lectures. Do the homework and go to office hours, she's very helpful if a bit intimidating. The quizzes and midterms are easier than the homework.
One of the best math profs at UW. Very kind, feels like she wants you to succeed. Her tests assess whether you understand calculus, not complicated algebra. Provides lots of extra resources to help you do well. Since it is a UW math class, there is a lot of homework and it is graded on a tough curve with one final for the whole department.
Prof. Nichifor is kind and approachable. She cares about her students and is always willing to explain class content. Her lectures are given with notes from OneNote accompanied with solid examples. Her tests are reasonable, and she teaches the content well as well. Would definitely recommend her for making the incessant integrals bearable for 125.
Dear non-mathy people like myself: There is hope! Nichifor provides pre-lecture videos which make MATH125 material much closer to grasp. The exams are tough but make good use of the exam database at your disposal and the Math Study Center and you'll be mostly okay!
She cares and makes sure her students understand everything. her exams are less harder than all other profs's exams
Despite teaching async classes, Professor Nichifor and her TAs are very approachable and respond quite quickly on message boards, usually getting responses within a day and even in the middle of the night. Her lectures are clear and concise, very well explained with a nice voice. If you put in the work you'll do fine in her class.
Professor Nichifor is truly an amazing professor. She really cares for the well-being of her students. She is generous with extensions on homework and even quizzes. The Q&A sessions are very helpful if you have any questions about the material whatsoever. Content can be difficult but very doable if you stay on top of lectures and ask questions!
Unfortunately, I only have experienced professor Nichifor's prerecorded lectures. However, the lectures are very clear and easily understandable. The homework is on the heavier side and requires more critical thinking but prepares you well for the quizzes and exams. She also responds very quickly to emails and is very helpful.
Really struggled taking this my intro freshman quarter, would most likely recommend taking 124 first unless you know you have good study habits and are proficient applying math concepts to wordy tests.
I had Nichifor with async lectures during my first quarter at UW, and she was honestly an amazing prof. 125 was a difficult course but she was always available to help despite the class being remote, and on exams she would give lots of partial credit. There was no curve for this class, so my grade is a bit lower, but Nichifor was excellent!
Professor Nichifor is a great teacher, even with an asynchronous class. her office hours are really helpful and most of the time there's not that many people, so it's easy to get one to one attention. the tests are fair, and she's very generous with partial credit. definitely take her class if you have the opportunity to!
Good class but was very difficult. Lectures are prerecorded but seem super old. Shes very monotone so it was incredibly difficult for me to not get sleepy while watching the lectures. Depends on what type of student you are, if youre a visual learner like me then it might be really hard to get a good grade. TAs are great, if you ask for help!
She is a good professor. The examples she does during lectures are really helpful. You can tell that she cares for students and wants them to do well. Definitely accesible for questions.
Professor Nichifor is a great option for 125. Her lectures are very well made and easy to understand. Homework isn't too difficult and have similar style questions to the quizzes/exams. Exams aren't very difficult if you put in the work to review and practice previous exams. Responds to emails pretty quickly also.
Gives good examples during class, and very helpful for office hours. Decent amount of homework, but lots if resources to help you through it.
I had Professor Nichifor this quarter and I have to say that she's a true gem. You'll have to work for it MATH 125, but she definitely makes even the most difficult concepts understandable. She's also very generous with partial credit, and she's available at almost any time of day to answer questions on Piazza or in office hours. Highly recommend!
Professor Nichifor is kind and really flexible compared to other professors. Wish she taught more classes so I could take them!
Great, informative, although long lectures. Nichifor's passion for teaching and her knowledge of the subject shines even through asynchronous learning. She is extremely organized and responsive and her class was a joy compared to other UW math classes.
This is a hard class, but Professor Nichifor is a solid teacher. Lectures are straightforward and quiz sections are used to go over the homework. For the online class, there are only 5 tests, and the lowest grade is dropped. The homework on Webasign is very challenging, but if you use your resources it's doable. Plus, 80% on HW is rounded to 100%.
Nichifor is the best math professor I've had. Teaches the content really well. The textbook isn't super helpful though and the workload is insane. 2-3 chapters due each week on WebAssign. 5 tests. But if you take math take it with Nichifor.
I really enjoyed this class! The homework is the hardest part but not impossible. She is really a kind professor who wants everyone to succeed. You should definitely take this class!
I was very nervous to take a math class at UW but Prof Nichifor was amazing. She really cares about her students and their success which was really refreshing to hear from a professor. Her lectures are well laid out and easy to follow. The work load is very intense, mostly with the weekly homework assignments, but it is doable. Don't get behind!
Nichifor is a really sweet professor and is willing to answer any questions *cough*unlike some other calc profs. The only problem is the class is very workload heavy and a bit hard to manage if you're taking other stem courses, but that's most likely true for all professors. A good option if you're like me and ask a lot of questions!
Professor Nichifor is a good professor, but make sure you keep up!! The class covers a lot of material pretty fast and there isn't time to review older concepts that you should already know, so it's important to be pretty self-disciplined with your learning. There's quite a bit of homework, but it's pretty helpful in the long run.
Professor Nichifor is a solid choice for 125. If you have her for the online course then her lectures are very clear and detailed. Grading is very fair and as long as you keep up with the homework and worksheets, then the exams should not be a huge deal. There are weekly quizzes, and you must have discipline to reach out for help. She is very nice.
441 was insanely difficult and exam heavy (2 exams 65% of the grade), but that's the nature of the course/math dept. Nichifor is so kind and she genuinely cares about her students. Her posted notes are easy to follow and she provides good practice material. I didn't do well in 441 but I'm sure I would have done much worse with a diff prof.
She is great and makes the concept very clear.
Alexandra is an absolutely amazing lecturer, one of the best who can articulate MATH 125s dense material. However, do not expect a to pass this class. The exams are on par for other UW math exams but without the curve, and with an average sitting comfortably under passing. Unless youre super comfortable with calculus, Avoid.
Professor Nichifor is hands down the best math professor I have ever had. Of all the traits, she cares so much about her students and goes out of her way to help them. In fact, college lectures felt more like a discussion section due to Prof. Nichifor's accessibility.
Clear and concise-- best calc teacher I've ever had. Exams are difficult but easier than the homework, and workload is manageable if you front-load it. Prof. Nichifor loves math, teaching, and her students, and it shows. The online format is also great for people who have already taken AP BC Calc and have other stem classes to focus on.
Good and well-explained lectures. Kind and nice person. HW is consistent but not too hard. Exams are not too difficult. As long as you keep pace with the course you'll be fine.
I have taken pre-calc and the whole calc series at UW, and this one was the most stressful one due to her teaching style. Her notes are packed with info and only goes over 1/3 of it, rarely any practice problems. The other 2/3 she posts in her "after lecture notes" in canvas. Weekly quizzes no cheat sheet. 80% of your grade is based on exams.
Nichifor is amazing! While the class was difficult, Nichifor clearly cared and was consistently available for help. She answered every single question on the online class discussion board and stayed after lecture everyday helping students, even staying for 30 minutes helping me with a hard problem. She made 126 very approachable and understandable.
Professor Nichifor did alright for MATH 125. Her prelecture videos and weekly quizzes helped me learn, but I often found myself lost during lecture time and my TA could have been more helpful. Overall, Nichifor does provide you with resources to succeed, but it might be more challenging than other math instructors.
Very good at her job. Excellent communication and has a skill for instructing. The only down side is that some people find her accent a bit difficult to understand but you should be able to get used to it. Furthermore, that is not something I can judge her on because she ticks all the boxes.
Prof. Nichifor cares about her students deeply and is committed to making sure they understand the material. Her lectures spend a lot of time going through practice problems, so you might want to go to other resources for understanding the core concepts of the class. Her grading criteria is easy to follow and her tests are straightforward.
very accessible and kind!
Prof Nichifor is a great lecturer and clearly explains every topic with multiple examples. 2 midterms and final worth a large portion of the grade, which can be tough. HW is WebAssign, so you get multiple attempts at problems which is nice. I found quiz sections largely unhelpful (not bad, just not needed). Great prof and great class overall
Nichifor is the best!! She's super clear in the lectures and explains everything so well. The only thing to be aware of is that she has a very thick accent and tends to speak very quickly, so I would highly highly recommend reading the textbook chapters before class so you're more prepared for a fast paced lecture. Very funny and accessible too!
She is a wonderful professor. Her lectures are clear and her class made me fall in love with math again.
I absolutely love having Professor Nichifor! You can definitely tell she cares about the students understanding of the content and is great at answering questions. She always tried to make her lectures fun and as entertaining as possible. She is very clear in her lectures and she is the loveliest person ever. Would definitely recommend!
Really great lecturer, made concepts easy to understand. Provided ample support opportunities, take advantage of her office hours, TA office hours, and optional Thursday quiz section in this class to succeed. Tests are 75% of your grade, so study hard, but she provides ample resources for you to do so.
Prof Nichifor is extremely helpful - she communicates clearly, is a brilliant lecturer, and truly cares about her students. Her Midterms are a little easier than other profs, so there is a big difficulty jump when finals roll around, but she is easy to approach and excellent at answering questions. She also has her own review sessions before tests.
Just wonderful, never had such a good prof in college compared with others. Explain concept clearly and have ppt and proofs. Im so appreciated. rate for 208
Nichifor is among the best lecturers I've had. She's clear, actually pays attention to students' questions, and gives good answers. She always combines proofs with a few concrete examples, which helps drive home the concept. As far as grading goes, there are a small number of assignments and exams counted for 80% of my grade.
Professor Nichifor is a helpful and caring instructor. While the course can be challenging, her lectures are clear, and she is readily available to provide assistance. Utilizing resources like Unstuck AI alongside the textbook and practice problems can make this class very manageable.
Professor Nichifor is very caring to her students, and is very eager to make accomondations for office hours and such, also for math 300 she explains how to do proofs pretty well, overall for me it was a smooth transition to proof-based mathematics under her guidance.
Professor Nichifor was one of the greatest professors I've ever had. Her lectures were clear, interesting, and explained the relevance of the proof to any formulas or methods we went over. Office hours were even better, where you can see she's witty, compassionate, and passionate about teaching. She's also a generous grader and doesn't curve down!
One of the best professors I've had at UW. She makes herself very accessible outside of class and it's easy to get help if you can't make it to office hours. The content itself can be tricky but she has a nice way of explaining things, and she uploads her own notes so it's easy to review. She also provides great resources for exam preparation.
She was really passionate about helping students understand the content. Her math jokes before every lecture was so funny too, definitely was an energy booster for me. Hope I can take her course again sometime, I miss being a MATH 124 student.
really good teacher
Professor Nichifor is really an amazing example of someone who can make even the trickiest of subjects seem doable. I personally haven't done math in nearly 3 years prior to taking math 124, and although that plagued me a bit in this math 125 as well, she was incredibly concise and didn't overcomplicate concepts.
Professor Nichifor was very kind and caring. Her lectures were good and her explanations were very understandable. She is very accessible outside of class and has a lot of office hours you can go to. I recommend her class if you have the chance to take it.
Prof. Nichifor is an amazing professor, and she teaches math so clearly and understandably. Honestly, her class is the only one I'm doing well in this quarter, and while the exams can be difficult in some parts, it's almost always stuff that has been covered in class/ the exam archive. 10/10 would recommend.
We had 4 quizzes which I though were pretty hard and also immediately after we learned the material. However, the midterms were pretty easy in my opinion. She if a good lecturer but you will need to put in a lot of work outside of class in order to succeed.
Great prof, tests were hard but I feel like that will be true for any 125 prof, went out of her way to help us review with lots of review sessions and prep materials and had really good lectures that went over a lot of practice problems for topics and always has 1/2 lectures dedicated to midterms/final review.
I cannot stress enough how amazing Professor Nichifor is. She truly cares for her students; she offered multiple office hours during the week and 2 hour Q&A sessions for her midterms and the final. We had short quizzes, but the lowest gets dropped. As long as you utilize the exam archive, office hours, and the Math Study Center, you'll do great!
Very nice professor. If you have to choose between several instructor for math 12x, choose her!
Taught the subject in an accessible way, she didn't just expect you to remember old concepts from previous math classes and if they came up she would give you a warning the previous lecture on what skills to brush up on and also gave resources. I could tell she cared about her student's success and would even push back homework assignments.
She is an amazing professor, her lectures were very helpful and she broke down the concepts well. I think her tests were very appropriate not being too difficult or easy and had content very related to what we were leaning in class. She was super kind and understanding and overall just a great person I really enjoyed this class, WAY better than 124
Good professor, very kind and very knowledgeable.
Great professor, super communicative and kind. Hard class.
Fun professor with clear lectures. Super accessible for help and office hours. Only downside is class difficulty didn't match the final: lecture and homework felt much easier than what showed up on the final, so it was tough to earn a strong grade. I'd recommend her, but find harder practice problems early so the final doesn't blindside you.
She's a really good professor who truly loves to help her students out. She was willing to stay in the hall even after the lecture ended to answer questions or to clarify concepts for me. Her structure for the class was clear, and her lecture was also fantastic and easy to understand. She also gave out notes and outlines for the class. LOVE HER!
