Alexandra is so nice! I actuallly love this class. I don't like Chemistry but I am so happy I took her class. She explains everything so simple and doesn't try to trick you on test. If I need another Chemistry I would definitely take her again, without a doubt!! She is awesome!!!
I love her, she is a great instructor, very helpful and extremely nice.
I really like this professor. She is fair, funny and explains very well.Even if you don't like chemistry (like me) she will make it fun.
All i could say is that she's hot!!!Her teaching is ok.
She's really nice and extremely helpful. She really knows her chemistry, and answers all your questions. Her labs are alot of fun, the class becomes a little family.
She just isn't my cup of tea. Shes wonderfully nice, and wants you to understand, and will try to help you if you're slipping. but she has a thick accent and sometimes can be repetitive. I would have liked if the assistant were the teacher. She gets angry if you dont pay attention,or if you dont show/leave early. easy class, difficult teacher
I really like this class. She tries to help everybody , is very fair and dedicated to helping you no matter how good/bad you are.I would love taking another of her classes. She makes science fun!
Hot. Great teacher. Had Suri for lecture and this babe for lab. The entire time we just told her how much we wished we had her for the lecture too.. definitely take her if you have a chance. You'll understand chemistry.
Very nice teacher!I love her class.
Great teacher! She made me realize I knew a lot more about science than I thought I did. She is always willing to work with you if you need help with anything. Attendance is mandatory so you can get all your activities done but if you must miss a day or two she is understanding.
I ended up droping because of Suri (WORST TEACHER EVER!) but she's an ok teacher. Had an attitude sometimes and kind of makes you feel dumb if you dont understand before she actually tries to help you. If you HAD to take her, if you had another choice, I'd probably do that. Oh and she has an accent but its comprehendable.
i loved her class. She is always tring to help you and the class becomes fun with lots of demos and you actually work in groups. everytime I aked questions she helped out. I always felt comfortable asking any kind if questions. This is one of my favorites classes.
If it wouldn't have been for her I would have never undersood anything in Chemistry. But she helped us A LOT in the lab. She is funny and great at explaining things that are complicated in an easy way. Everything I learned I've learned from her. I would definetelty take other classes with her. Great teacher!
Sacarstic. She has an accent but you can understand her. Personable. Helps out a lot! She wants you to understand the material, not just get things done and kick you out. It might be intimidating to ask questions, but get over it, we're adults now. The book is awful, but she and Mr Rodgers really help you throughit
Kind of rude but I don't think she realizes it. She just wants you to learn but she acts like she doesn't care. I think it's because she wants you to think she the smartest but she's cool. She's funny and easy to talk to. I got used to her.
Dr. Schroer comes off as a bit rude, but once you get into the class and get to know her, she's absolutely amazing! She's funny and makes the class interesting and fun. Having the book is MANDATORY, as every assignment is from it. The tests, if you study, should be okay. I recommend her. I really enjoyed taking her class and I learned a lot.
Schroer is a bit rude and puts to much of her interest critizing her students. She spends the first ten minutes of class explaning things and if you're still not understanding things her only advice is to get a tutor. She doesn't make much time to help her students herself. I recommend her for students who don't have trouble understanding science.
I know that science is not my strength. But if I'm going to take a class to learn. Don't make me feel not smart, incapable, show no care about my grade. Talk about others and assume about them as a person. Your job is be a teacher. I will say she is smart and knows her stuff. But Im sorry ten minute talks isn't enough when the book barely explains
Super hot and a super hot european accent. Some folks complain on here about her belittling our lack of knowledge and such, but they forget that she was taught in Germany where people aren't lazy. Just do the work and enjoy the view.
I loved her class and I think she is very helpful and wants you to succeed. She doesn't tolerate lazy students and I think it is our fault to assume that we can easily pass just because it is AVC.She actually helped me a lot and I was going through some personal issues and she accomodated my needs. If you want to learn take her class!!
I'm going to be honest, she judges you from day one and even if you improve, she belittles you. One day I emailed her asking to take the final on a different day and she said "whatever I'm sick of you." She is a you know what and yes I am a bright student, so thanks for noticing.
Fantastic teacher. Very practical, bit of a temper, but answers any and all questions you may have. She wants students to be there to learn. If you can't be bothered, she won't be bothered with you. Her frankness and "judging" only makes you want to prove yourself.
I only had her for Labs but I love her just the same. She's very helpful and spends the first 10-15 mins of the class explaining everything even the ones we couldn't understand in lecture. She doesn't have to but she'll explain it anyway as long as students care. She's very knowledgable...she's not rude at all. Highly recommended.
She was good. I didn't do my best when I took her (For Lab) because I was lazy, and she made it perfectly aware that I was, but I admire and respect her honesty. She has an interesting way of teaching in a laid back style. She's easy to talk to and she's actually really nice.
LOVED HER! I barely passed but its because i had a few difficult classes at the same time. she is very helpful if you ask she will help. she kinda puts you down when she talks to you but i dont think she means to. she is very honest. if you do the work and actually pay attention you shouldnt have any problems. very laid back a really great teacher
Love/Hate relationship. Beginning of class she wasn't my favorite but by the end I quite enjoyed her class, probably wouldn't take her again though. Her tests are quite simple, if you study or have the material down Lab is easy. She explains everything perfectly. Honesty is her strong suit to say the least. Anyone interested in chem should take her
LOVED HER!!!!She was always there to help when I needed her. Now I'm in Chem 120 and I miss her terribly. She is very honest, so if you have a problem with it, you will have to live with it.
She is very helpful and strongly encourages you to participate in class disscusions. All assignments are from the text book and are fairly simple to understand. If you dont understand something she would happily go over the topic(just ask). Overall very great class, she is honest so people who cant take criticism should think twice about enrolling.
Wonderful Professor! As long as you are not lazy she is there to support and encourage you.
I was so unprepared for this class not having taken Chem 101 first, but as I got the hang of it it became so interesting to me. She's a great teacher but grading is very difficult because if you miss one question you'll find yourself getting a C! 2 questions you're at a very low D. This class was very difficult because of this but good teacher.
She is more suited to socializing than teaching. I wish I had taken Newman instead.
I really enjoyed the class and learned a lot.Of course if you don't care and expect to get an easy A it will not happen. She is funny and helpful. You just need to care.I don't mind socializing and learning at the same time..
AMAZING!!!!! JUST LOVE HER!!!! I wish she taught all the chemistry classes! Never had a professor make chemistry so clear to understand. Made lab really fun, never a dual moment. Sarcastic, but blunt and honest. If you can't handle the truth and harsh but benefical critisism, dont take her. If you can, you will love just like I do.
Always late! not sure if that's the case with all the other classes but she was ALWAYS late. This added up to about 4hrs of missed class time on HER part. Difficult class calls for a punctual teacher. I got an A with very hard work. She is nice to look at. And she is very nice. Would take her again. Just get on her good side ASAP
she is a cool proff who will help you. i liked her. just try your hardest and it will pay off.
She's fun and interactive though she does seem to go off topic a lot and isn't awesome at explaining things to the very slow learners. But I had trouble with them too! It's fast-paced but fun and schroer is cool.
Please do not take this class unless you are willing to study for 15 hour a week for Mr. Schroer. The Test and Quizzes are irrelevant to lectures and homework which is 50% of your total grade.
would not take her ever again. Mind you I am not good at science, but I learned very little and attended class everyday. her words exactly where "i do not have favorites, i just have students i dont like." if your a science major go head an take her n get on her good side. youll have no problems
I love this class!I was scared of science and this class first but now I'm so happy I've stayed.Mrs.S. is super fun and very nice as long as you show her that you care.Class is based on common sense so not sure why people struggle. With minimum effort and positive attitude you will enjoy this class and definitely Mrs. S!!
Schroer should under no circumstances be taken by a student with disabilities; she is hostilely intolerant of anyone who deviates from how she wants to teach her class in any way. If she gives you an answer for something that you know to be wrong, just copy it and don't bother correcting her: there is NOTHING that can convince her that she's wrong.
This class was by far the most fun class I had considering it was my first semester at AVC. It is an easy class if you have already taken chem (101 or high school level) and did good in those. She makes class interesting and fun so you never get bored in class. Just do the homework, study for the tests, and attend class and you will do fine.
Dr. Schroer is by far the best teacher I have had at AVC. If you talk and get to know her everything will be fine..if you're quiet, don't be because it won't work with her. I took her for PSCI and Chem and she is so much fun she makes the class interesting. PSCI is all common sense. She's very blunt, but that is part of what makes her so fun.
Schroer is by far the best professor I have had at AVC. She is completely dedicated to helping her students understand and master chemistry. She believes whole heartedly in everyone of her students. Not an easy class if you don't have some knowledge of chemistry so take 101 first. ASK QUESTIONS!!! Her accent makes it hard to understand at times.
For those of you who think this class is easy, it is not especially if you did not take the 101 course first. Take advantage of her office hours. Very helpful. This class requires plenty of practice on problems. As soon as the semester begins, talk to her! Lectures are never dull either. Slight accent, but it's easy to understand her.
She is incredibly blunt and hilarious. Great instructor, I do recommend taking Chem 101 first, it's a great advantage and makes class a lot easier. Of course you have to devote a good chunk of time to studying, her tests are moderately hard. BUT, she does get side tracked occasionally with personal stories. Other than that she's AWESOME.
Dr. Schroer is an amazing professor! She does have a sarcastic sense of humor (which I personally love!), so if you are extremely sensitive I may not recommend her. But if you are interested in learning the material, and put effort into her class, she will do everything she can to help you. I would definitely take any of her classes again!
dr schroer was hilarious. she knows what she's teaching and cuts out what doesn't need to be taught. doesn't like lengthy answers. 6 tests and a final, all very easy. she is smart and doesn't like it if you are a silent dummy. pay attention when she talks, she doesn't talk long. we always got out early.
Want to be a chemist? Take her! She is very understandable and enjoys chemistry. She is nice, and would like everybody to succeed. Study! She makes you work for your grade! Be on her bad side, she may seem mean, be good and the opposite. Lectures are clear, and the tests reflect the lectures. Try, and she will be lenient.
One of the best instructors I've had! She's funny and she explains things in a way that's easy to understand. Takes the time to make sure you get it and explains it until you do. The test are basically straight from the activities you do in class so pay attention and show up to class and you'll be fine!
She expects you to learn from your experiments. Read the experiments carefully and don't skip any steps and wait for your partners to catch up!!!!
She is a great teacher and as long as she sees that you put effort she will help you pass. there is a lot of homework that involve computers so that gets annoying quick but besides that she is a wonderful teacher.
She is an amazing instructor. She is very blunt but hilarious. She makes the subject fun to learn. She encourages you to participate and is willing to explain things as many times as you need and wont move on until you understand, as long as she sees that you are trying. I wish she would teach other classes (:
Schroer was tough, but doable. You will not pass if you do not study. Take CHEM 101 before this class. She moves very quickly, and she is absolutely willing to help during her office hours. She really wants her students to pass; get on her good side and she will help you out, if she sees you are making an good enough effort.
She is a very enthusiastic teacher and loves chemistry, but you are without a doubt expected to use the textbook to learn the information on your own time. She uses the time in class to gloss over what you need to figure out for the test, but because she has so many fluff assignments it's an easy class to pass.
She really wants her students to learn the materials, so she teaches very slow and sometimes the class fall behind. There were three midterms and one finals. for the lab reports, she gives full credit regardless what student writes. She is a very fair grader, and a very nice person. With hard work, it is highly possible to get an A to this class.
Professor Schroer is by far the best teacher at AVC. After taking Suri I thought my life was over, but she lifted my spirits and showed me that chemistry is possible to pass and made it so fun in the process. She eliminates all unnecessary material and gives countless examples and loves when you ask questions. She wants everyone to succeed. Loveher
Professor S is a great teacher. She makes several jokes while teaching and makes chemistry very interesting. The only downside of her teaching style is that she is all over the place so its good to re read the notes at home.
Good professor! Dr. Schroer really makes this class fun.
Dr. Schroer is AMAZING! I LOVE HER! She is passionate about what she is teaching & wants her students to get ahead! If you need help she is always willing to help & she encourages students to ask questions! She's also pretty hilarious, you will enjoy her class even if you happen to hate chemistry.
Her class is very challenging, and she makes you feel bad for not understanding. She could be kind of mean and snarky. She doesn't care if she embarrasses you in front of the whole class. If you are not good at chemistry, I would not recommend her.
Her style is definitely not for me took her once and I felt so bad I almost reconsidered what I wanted to major in. She has some favoritism and is too fast paced, she can make you feel bad when you don't understand and can be both snide and a little mean. If you are not super quick at grasping things but a hard worker, take Newman, he's for you.
Professor Schroer is great. I loved her class. I got an A in her class but I studied really hard. She is funny and super honest. Some will find her rude or mean but I find her to be a truly real person. Many people are afraid to hear the truth about things, but Professor Schroer is not afraid to be real with you and tell you the truth as it is.
This is an interactive class, if you plan on just sitting back and relaxing this is not the class for you. I had a really good time in the class because I studied and came prepared for class. Make sure you pick your group wisely since there are labs every day and your group is an essential part to understanding.
Dr. Schoer is an amazing chemistry professor, she does lecture rather quickly so it helps to read the book beforehand, a lot of helpful examples are done inclass. HW is from the book and really helps with tests, which are based on lect. material. Labs take up the most time but r fun. 3t+final, practice tests provided; allows certain cheat sheets.
Really rude professor, would embarrass students. Heartless and very blunt. Do not take this professor if you haven't taken chem 101. She does not have much patience. If you are good at Chem or had a good chem 110 teacher then you'll pass this class no problem. If you struggle, don't take her, she won't help. A lot of people failed or dropped.
Schroer was very honest and upfront about her expectations at the start of the summer semester--it was going to be fast paced and you would have to put in effort. I hadn't taken Intro to Chem in 6 years but because of my personal study efforts and attention in class I got an A in this class. She's very thorough in explaining what you need to know.
Dr. Alexandra is overall a great professor & helpful. She grades fairly, and provides numerous extra credit problems on the exams. Be prepared the way she lectures since she will very go fast, and a lesson will be covered within a blink of an eye. Also, she is not afraid to say the truth about the students/class in front of everyone, so heads up.
Professor Schroer is passionate about the subject. She's also very funny, but don't let her sense of humor fool you. She is serious about teaching and isn't afraid to show it. Just be respectful, prepared, and ready to learn in her class. If you like fooling around or wasting time, she's not the one for you.
Teaches Fast. knows her topic, funny, loves when students engage in the topic! just be ready to catch all the information.
Dr. Schroer is funny, upbeat and cares for the students who show respect and put in some effort. If you don't care about your grade and are lazy she's probably not for you. But if you do and talk to her you will find she's amazing and actually cares and loves her students. Oh and she is kind of cute!
She's an amazing professor for Organic Chemistry. Doesn't grade on a curve, but it isn't needed. It's a lot of work but she knows that too. She's a very understandable, approachable, and hilarious professor, making the agony of learning this dreaded subject so much more easier. Would 100% recommend to anyone who has to take the class.
TAKE HER ! She's such a great professor. She moves quickly in lectures, but she cares about her students. She knows ochem sucks so she lets you have certain cheat sheets on tests and doesn't make you memorize unnecessary bs. Don't be lazy or otherwise fall behind in your work cause it will come back to bite you. Overall, amazing professor 10/10
she's not nearly as scary and hard as she claims to be, trust. as long as you study and do the homework, you'll be FINE. i went in not knowing a lick of chemistry, and i did fine. she does go really fast though and shes really hard to access outside of class. other than that, shes great. i learned a lot from her. just be prepared & study & u good.
I remember reading the reviews and having high hopes for taking her class. Did not have a good experience. She was always saying mean jokes, and I never felt comfortable asking her questions. Im usually good at chemistry but the way she does it left me feeling confused.
Dr. Schroer is a interesting and funny teacher that knows her stuff, her tests are easy but she really does not like people who don't take the class seriously. You have to get to know the material and if you are behind she will not mince words, she will tell you outright that if you are not willing to work hard you are wasting your time.
I had Dr. Schroer's class online during Summer 2020 due to COVID-19. She teaches well and gets to the point. She can get very frustrated when people don't participate in class, which can be intimidating if you're quiet. Overall, though, she has a good heart and cares about your education. If you put in the work, you will have a positive experience.
If you can do it go for it. My memory isn't the best so I struggled a little. Many others seemed to enjoy the course though. She's good at chemistry.
Shes a pretty good teacher but I feel that she has no patience at all. She gets annoyed very easily. Her test and quizzes arent too bad tho.
Professor Schroer is very funny and she might seem mean and tough but she's really caring and willing to help you with anything that wasn't clear to you.
Chemistry is a daunting field, but Dr. Alexandra Schroer communicated and ensured that her students understood the concepts thoroughly. Along with an amazing S.I, this class was a positive experience! Study the material, attend SI whenever you can, and participate in the class for an A. She is very personable and open to all her students :)!!!
Homework assignment for every chapter but they were not too hard. There were 3 tests and 4 quizzes plus a final. They are worth a majority of your grade so get ready to study. Some lectures were confusing because she skips through slides a lot. She moves fast and expects you to do the same. Shes hard but one of the better professors we have.
I took her class for Spring 2021 online. She is so far the best instructor I've had. Chemistry is tough but she explains well which makes it easier. She wants you to interact and participate as much as possible, hence wanted us to keep our cameras on!! If you follow the instructions, study hard and ask/answer questions you can expect an A. Simple!
She was an awful professor. She is rude, uncaring, and extremely disrespectful to students. She constantly talks down to us. I asked for extra credit opportunity that I missed a day I was absent. She said no it wouldnt have matter because my score was so low anyways. Labs, hw, dont do anything. Grades are based all on test and quizzes.
Cool person, extremely hard professor. Flies through her lectures, and the test scheduling was a mess. Kept pushing back quizzes, and as a result we had 4 tests in a row in the final 2 weeks, with no lecturing or review happening in between. Incredibly overkill, and inconsiderate as everybody has other finals to do so there was no time to study.
Love the way she explains the topics. Super fun class to have and made me enjoy chem 10x more.
Schroer can be intimidating at first but once you get to know her she is very caring and funny. Chem is a hard subject, but she cares more that you make and effort and understand the fundamentals than trying to make you an expert. She grades labs and hw mercifully but the tests are where your grade counts. But she is helpful if you ask questions.
It's ironic--the tests are worth 400 points each, while the HW is 20 points. Each HW takes 6-8 hours. Still, you cannot pass without finishing the homework; it will greatly prepare you for the tests. Make sure to perfect problems worked in class; they're often on the test, even when she only mentions them once. To be her favorite, just participate.
Honestly I feel like if I were to take any other teacher for chemistry I would fail. Chemistry is hard as it is but she cares for everyone and makes the class simple you just have to practice.
Professor Schroer was an amazing, fun, and kind professor. She seems tough and she is as she expects a student to put in the work, but she also respects you when she sees that you are trying. Her class is test heavy but she gives extra credit if you participatein class and attend SI. So long as you study and try in class, you will do well.
By far one of the most degrading teachers I have met. Always 10 minutes late to her lecture then would fly through slides. Great at teaching when there is time but ruined by her attitude. Tests are straightforward/ offers extra credit.
She can be tough at times but that's only because she cares about her students. Extremely easygoing but make sure to participate.
She is AWSOME, her tests and quizzes are easy as long as you study. She explains labs and lecture in an easy way. She cares about you learning the material and doesn't like when you slack off, she also wants you to succeed and participate. For honors, it's only a research paper. I would definitely take her again, best chemistry prof. you can take!!
I took Dr.S in the six week summer course and though it was a tough class, I really enjoyed it. Dr.S gives you exactly what you need to be sucessful in Chem. Though her class is heavily graded based on the exams, you'll be able to pass if you pay attention in lecture. I disliked lab, but they were doable. Also go to SI, it was very helpful!
The person below me is wrong, Dr. Schroer is awesome. - J
She's tough and strict but not to the point where it's completely unbearable and honestly a good teacher. I had her for intersession so she ended up barely teaching our final chapter. She has pretty high, but realistic, standards for her students. She funny and I think she genuinely cares about the students who show effort. Get a small study group.
Four weeks to take a course is difficult already, Schroer made it enjoyable whilst condensing and teaching a 5 unit course, if that isn't teaching I do not know what is. Si was enjoyable and a great way of applying and engaging with peers, tutor had a great attitude, very patient. Overall great experience.
Professor Schroer can be tough, but she cares about her students. The class is test-heavy, but with practice and using resources like unstuckstudy, you can succeed. Attend SI and participate for the best chance.
Pay attention in class, attend every lecture, and don't get stuck behind. ASK QUESTIONS. Possible to get an A without doing anything extra BUT get a friend to study with. Anything could be on the test, even if she mentions it once in class. Homework helps you prepare for the test, and will hurt your grade if you don't do it. Lowkey underrated.
Lectures were rushed and unclear, and she was often late to class. Some of her jokes felt mean rather than humorous, which affected the classroom environment. We also had to sign a contract that, in my experience, seemed to discourage speaking up about concerns. She needs to be reevaluated, overall disappointing.
Often late to class and very meanspirited especially if you were struggling with the material. Would spend 20 minutes every time complaining instead of teaching and then complained some more when the entire class was behind. Terrible attitude.
As long as you participate, you will be okay. Don't hesitate to ask questions if you get lost. She is a very generous and funny teacher who gives multiple chances for extra credit. Try not to miss lectures, but she posts her slides for reference. Studying helps, pay attention during the lectures because she hints at what questions will be on quiz.
