He has high expectation and really cares about your success in his courses. He is very approachable and really wants you to learn. He will roll up his sleeves and help you learn the material. He is one of the best professors at Calumet College of St. Joseph !

He genuinely cares about his students and will go out of his way to help them not only succeed in his class, but life in general. Most memorable moment: He recorded & posted an instructional video on using Excel @ 4am on a Saturday because we needed to use it for a lab report & a few people didn't know how to use it.

His classes are sooo much fun. He is the most helpful teacher I've ever had. You can tell that he truly enjoys what he does and that's what makes him such a GREAT teacher. He will go above and beyond to help his students whether it's with his class or life in general. He's very encouraging & makes you want to do well.

Very Helpful

He is a very hard worker, and is willing for his students to learn. He takes the time to help you understand, and will work with you outside of class. I really love his cute little boeties that he wears. Dr. Dasalvia is a great teacher, leader, and a role model.

He is a very energetic enthusiastic teacher. You can tell he loves what he does, and that?s what makes his class so fun. He goes the extra mile when trying to help students. The only negative I can think of is the homework,so much homework. He gave us too many packets to read. If you put all those packets together you would have had a book.

My favorite professor!

Going in to this class, I had very little interest about the class. Prof. da Silva didn't only get me to understand the material, he actually got me interested. He is a great professor!

This class was very interesting and exciting. It makes you think and it makes you use your mind. Attendance is important but Prf. da Silva teaches the material so that learning it is not hard to do.

I absolutely loved Professor da Silva's class. It was by far the most challenging class I have taken at CCSJ. His class was challenging in a great way. At the end of the semester I could not believe I had just Aced a Intro. Physics class. He is by far one of the best Professors I have had the privilege to learn under. Thanks Professor da Silva!

This class was very interesting and a little strange at first, But once Prof. Alex da Silva explained the course and how it relates to human beings and nature, it all seemed clear and most students could relate to it. Some material was a little tough to understand he still would explain it in multiple ways to ensure the students understanding.

This course challenges students like never before. However, he is more than willing to spend his free time offering assistance to those in need. He is truly excited about the course material, thinks of creative ways to keep the students interested in science, & he also offers study recitations to ensure students will do well on exams.

The professor does everything possible to help us understand the material. He offered extra study sessions to help students prepare for mid-terms and finals. He brings demonstrations to class to explain concepts. He uses to lab to help us visualize the concepts.

DaSilva is an awesome professor, one who is willing to build and maintain a positive relationship with ALL of those students who are concerned. This class has changed my mind about how I view science as well as helped improved myself efficacy tremendously. It wasn't because of the work we did either; however it was the way DaSilva kept us in gear.

This was a very challenging course. In the beginning Dr. da Silva's expectations seemed ridiculous. He gave us the tools to take on a real project and succeed. He brought theory and practice together in this real world class. He is awesome.

Prof da Silva made us work really hard. He showed us how the environment can be damaged. We also learned about the special places such a Pin Hook bog! He is very knowledge about the environment of Northwest Indiana. This class isn't just going on hikes in the Indiana Dunes. He is supportive of students who need help.

Professor da Silva is great. Even though the class is not the easiest (for me at least), he is able to explain everything clearly in a way I understand.

This professor is eager to help you whenever you feel as if you are struggling through his course lectures. He will stay after class or meet with you according to your availability. This professor is very rare. If he feels that you are struggling he will ask for your suggestions. He is very extraordinary, you couldn't ask for a better professor.

Dr. Dasilva, is a great professor, he helps you out in so many ways and makes sure you understand the material. He will always take the time to work with you to make sure you can reach your potential. Even if this class doesn't go toward your degree, its the critical thinking that Dr. Dasilva teaches you to use that will benefit you anywhere you go

To me, I found the class easy to learn because of the way Prof. Da Silva taught it. But the main things that I found most useful were all the new small things that I learned in class even if it wasn't about science.

Professor DaSilva is a very interesting character in general. You can tell he loves what he is doing and teaching. His good energy and vibes carried me through some of the tougher days in the course.

Prof. da Silva puts in a lot of effort helping his students understand the course material. He's open to suggestions and is overall a friendly teacher. He often uses demonstrations to explain the material. The class can be confusing so don't fall behind on the work or skip sessions. The assignments are mostly easy. Be sure to mention Niagara Falls.

Great class. Fun teacher

Course content can be difficult and overwhelming, but the professor will go over it with you and try different methods with you, until you understand it.

Teacher is very energetic which helps stay focused. Also ges extra credit for participation which keeps the class involved and paying attention as well.

Professor da Silva is a good instructor. He is very open and easy to speak to. He has a sort of goofiness that helps students ease into the course and stay engaged.

Very fun classes/labs, very easy to follow, doesn't want to see any students fail. awesome teacher.

The classes are centered around PowerPoints (with handout that need key words filled in from the presentations) peppered with questions the class can respond to for points. The tests pull most of their questions from the book so read up! We didn't really have homework besides reading. Oh, and if you have questions or don't understand, SPEAK UP.

DaSilva has a plan. You really need to study if you are going to LEARN anything in his class. He keeps it fun by allowing students to answer questions correctlyto score points. He always wants to know what you learned in class before class is over and this really shows him that we are listening by our answers. I think he is a good teacher.

Dr. Da Sliva was educated about this course. This course has made me appreicate science more. He has been helpful with the course material and gives students second chances.He rushed through some material. We only did 50% of the lab. I like lab because it is fun and you learn alot from doing lab.He has a loose attendance policy.

Prof.DaSilva keeps students entertained and involved by offering extra credit by answering questions. The class did seem a little unorganized at times and some subject matter didn't receive as much attention as it should have. There was an enormous amount of work to turn in, although none of it was handed back. Needed to know what I had to work on.

This class was very interesting and informative although the content could be confusing at times. Professor da Silva led the way however in clearing up the confusion and leading the students onto the correct path.

Student in DaSilva Chem 121 class at USF Crown Point. DaSilva took the extra time out of his already busy schedule to provide study sessions for those who were having trouble understanding a section. He went way above and beyond this semester. If I need any more science classes I am definitely taking a course he is teaching.
