“His project for Summer 2023 was a complete farce, he wanted to experiment but gave us a project where we had no prior context on how to approach the problem (fluid dynamics), and made it a big point that he would not be taking any questions about the project as "made it clear enough"”

Funny guy
Great teacher! Funny guy. Take the class, know your stuff, you'll do fine.
Really nice, makes everything really simple and exams are very fair. Good preparation for the final. Although he might have a hard time sometimes with his quebecois accent its nothing major!
GOod Teacher, and funny. Just do your homework and listen in class and you'll be alright.
This guy was terrible for us didn't post any of the solutioms like the other classes did and was an extrememly hard marker !!
Pretty terrible teacher. Boring, has a hard time explaining himself and focuses WAY TOO MUCH on derivations--in Dynamics. He does not help by providing any intuition about the physical world and is a very erratic marker. I would NOT take him again.
Go to every class and focus on the problems he does there. I somehow walked out of that class with an A+ and I'm still not quite sure how...
THis teacher was terrible didn't want to use the same grading scheme as other teachers gave us harder midterms was organized and was an eratic marker as previously mentionned would give a 0 on quiz than change his mind to 6 when you showed it to him ...
Good explanations, tests are similar to the book's problems as claimed, really good preparation for the final, tests/quizzes can be challenging, very approachable, and is willing to sit down and explain things, even really simple things, when you show up during office hours. Great choice for statics.
such a great teacher, explains all the material and easy final and midterm.highly recommend to get A
He enjoys giving lectures, what makes it more easy, ask him whatever you want and he will give you important feedback. Just dont expect that with only by attending the lectures you will pass the course, dynamics is a hard course.
This is an extremely difficult course and I HIGHLY recommend that you do not take it with this guy. His midterms are so hard!! He teaches from wtv is in the book.. you might as well just read the book yourself. & he does the easy sample problems & doesn't give the solns to the midterms.
Good lectures, but I personally don't find his lectures that helpful with dynamics, because you really have to read the book and do problems on your own to fully understand it; and there is nothing that he discuss that cannot be understood from the book (except for his extra material on Lagrangian mechanics). Is sarcastic, but is also accommodating.
Not too bad, but not a good teacher either. He focuses WAY too much on theory and useless derivations. His exams and quizzes are always hard and he is paranoid about posting solutions to them..
He is the worst teacher ever. Try to avoid him because his exams are extremely hard
Very nice guy, approachable will answer ur questions. He explains the material very clearly.Midterm & quizzes were straightforward no trick questions. The final was very hard and quite tricky.he does curve the final grades though. He's a tough marker takes off alot for small mistakes so double check ur work.make sure to do well on midterm & quizzes.
Pros: Clear, knows what he's talking about, can make things easy to understand - Cons: Needs to be reminded or won't post things online, gives easy problems compared to tests / hard tests
He is a very good teacher ... Fun class ... Attendance will guarantee you an A ... Easy midterms ... Hard finals...
Very good teacher. His explanations are very clear and keeps the class fairly entertained. Both midterm and final are fair.
Reasonable teacher, although a little odd. Exams/tests do have a number of trick questions. Probably one of the better teachers for this class.
Great lecturer, entertaining as far as engineering classes go, mid term is fair, final is on the harder side but far from impossible (i got almost perfect). Very orgnaized notes, id take his class for any topic possible !
Very friendly and approachable, makes a lot of silly jokes in class. His classes are 70% theory, 30% problems, so if you want to do well you have to do all the suggested problems, which is fine since he is available if you need help. Midterms were average, and final not very difficult. But very tough tutorials.
He's a really good teacher. His lectures cover the things you need to know to solve the assigned problems. His lectures are clear and he goes straight to the point. He's a tough grader but will give you detailed feedback if you ask for it. He will help you if you don't understand something.
If you have a chance to take him, do it. Test are slightly challenging but doable, they resemble the txtbk questions. He's always willing to help you no matter how stupid the question . Besides being a tough grader he's an excellent choice.
Quirky teacher. Great lectures. Tough grader - watch out for units and check your datamath. State your assumptions. Draw diagrams. Clear lectures so if you're sharp, no need for a lot of reading (I had to!). He spends time on formulas in class -pay attention - no formula sheet for the final. Do some theory questions, as many problems as you can.12
I don't recommend him for thermodynamics, he knows his material but doesn't explain to you how to solve textbook problems, easy tricks, how to use the tables.. He gives a lot of theory and sets up calculations that you'll never need (but you dont know that). Tough grader, doesn't respond to emails!!! Attending his class is a waste of your time
pretty ghood teacher
He focuses way too much on theory, solves easy problems (compared to the toughness of the suggested problems) in a way that makes you feel you understood everything, however you might not experience the same feeling when you start solving the recommended problems. I took this class in summer 1 and it was pretty intense !
One of the best at Concordia. I strongly recommend him.
I took this tough course in summer. He explains fairly well and cares about students. Useful assigned problems and tutorial class. He prepared us for final and midterm. Midterm was tough and final was fair. He is available during office hours and answers students questions well. Fair marker and polite. I will take him again.
He tends to simplify the subjects in lectures, but if you pay attention in them and run through the assigned problems, you'll be fine.
He is really bad! Hes a great guy tries to make the class interactive but hes not an anglophone and his explanations are horrible. He makes students use the textbook he published in English, which is not his native tongue, meaning that once again you are working with the most unclear explanations ever. Expect test questions to be just as unclear.
This teacher is there for you. The classes are clear, he regularly does quizzes during the semester (during tutorials), so you know what to expect for the exams. His explanations are clear, and you know what to expect for the exams. He often takes questions from the book. So, if you do read the book, you will be well-prepared for his exams.
Horrible teacher hes a smart guy knows what he is doing but has no clue how to teach. His exams are a load of garbage takes off points mostly for formalities not for actual theory taught in the class. His classes are horrible as well he tries to explain but cant do it if his life depended on it. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone!! EVER!
I thought he was fantastic for Statics but I would not recommend for Dynamics. He rushed everything (even though he was ahead of schedule), gave easy in-class examples that weren't reflective of the mid-terms/finals. He has his textbook which is FILLED with errors. Book's practice problems are barely more helpful than class ones. Take Gomaa instead
Hard class that requires a lot of practice. His quizzes are very hard, the midterms are ok and the final is brutal. He uses his own book that has great problems but not enough theory and examples. Also the book is made of his own hand drawned drawings and his solutions are almost unreadable. He failed 20% of the class...
Made us use his textbook, examples are hand written with no rulers, diagrams are impossible to read and solutions are just the answer with no explanation. Terrible teacher! Avoid him!
Great lecturer. If you pay attention in class, you will pass for sure ! Also speaks french, so if you don't understand something in english he will explain it in french.
He understands the material very well but he expects the same of you. I have had him now for three classes and i have learned that i would rather sit in on his lectures rather than register for them. He is a very tough grader but if you follow his format and do your free body diagrams he will give you good partial marks.
I do believe that he's the best teacher for the subject. While the course isn't necessarily the easiest, he goes about it methodically and takes input from the students to focus on what we seemed to be struggling on. He seems to recognize what we're thinking and it makes it easier.
TAKE HIM. He's the best teacher. He actualy teaches. Yes, his final is really hard, but you don't need to learn the class by yourself to understand.
My suggestion: enroll in someone else's class and attend Paradis' lectures. Had him for both 213 and 242 and he's amazing, funny guy and a great teacher, but I wouldn't take him again just because he's a very hard marker. Oftentimes a third of the marks would be just for the right answer so you would misplace a minus sign and get 20/30.
This professor rushes through every topic to cover the syllabus as he takes his midterm during his lectures. He will cover only the beginning of a chapter to the midway of the chapter to say in favor. The rest is totally up to you to cover up and that's never good. There are topics he will not touch and you will have to wake up nights to manage.
Hes a very respectful instructor, he tries to simplify methods while he is explaining! His tutorials and homework are complicated but they are a perfect preparation for the final! He is also funny.
He has a terrible handwriting and he chooses to write aaaaall the class notes by hands anyway. He never posts anything on Moodle and he never answers emails. I would go with any other professor for engr233.
avoid
super cool guy. The ratings don't do him justice. His handwriting is bad, but I've known worse (ted) and tbh you can read what's on the board. He cares about his students, he makes silly/fun analogies during his lectures, he's just an all-around great guy. I'd take him again for sure if I had the chance.
Such a nice guy! his class is fun and helps a lot, but they arent mandatory. you HAVE to do all the textbook problems. His midterms were pretty easy and his grading isnt that bad. Hes very open to discussing how he marks. The final exam was a bit harder but i felt well prepared. would take him again! he also only has 2 Tshirts
Nice guy, explains well, he writes a lot on the board due to the lack of not using a manual or slides. His exams are really fair, the problems are not something out of the blue. For preparation for midterm/final, I only did all the recommended problems/webworks. I could have gotten an A+ but i missed 2 quizzes (2.5% each).
Concordia has so many bad professors, compared to the previous statement he is not bad at all. He is very good at explaining and makes sure people understand. Also, he rules out the semester very fairly. His exams are fair, the quizzes are good at telling you if you are up to date and he teaches properly. He is definitely better than other profs.
He's definitely better than most profs out there, and he cares about the course he is teaching. He is overall a good teacher, but it seems like he is unprepared for the lectures, and kind of works off his memory. His teaching methods aren't the best, and the info doesn't get across clearly, but he is still a fair, nice, and caring teacher.
Had a rough start at the start of the online semester but everything turned out much better than expected! Lecture attendance is not mandatory but he does provide good explanations/clarifications and will answer absolutely any questions. His exams are very fair, he doesn't over complicate problems just for the sake of it.
He's a super nice guy, explains very well and clearly. He registers and posts the lectures so ou can watch them anytime. His quizzes and exams are exactly the material we see in class so you don't need to go online and learn by yourself. Great prof!
I think he was one of the teachers that handled the transition to online classes the most adequately. His lectures are really clear and he takes the time to explain the logic behind every theorem. His classes are quite fast paced but at least that allowed us to have a week for review. His team projects were a bit harder but overall he was a gem !
His exams so difficult and long, not generous with his grading. Although, 50% of your final grade is based on quizzes, so you have a chance to get a really good grade, provided you survive his brutal finals!
Not recommended. Wont prepare you well for the finals.
All around good prof if you can get past the bad handwriting, which he knows and will repeat what is said if asked. Is fair with the grading and cracks a few jokes every now and then. Final wasn't bad at all, I have also taken him for ENGR233 and will be taking him for ENGR242. He's a great choice for a prof!
One of my favorite teachers so far during the pandemic. His writing is bad but he will repeat any words you can't decipher but he also doesn't write much. Chooses good examples and explains the theory clearly. He also gives extra material for each chapter. His midterms are fair and represent the chapters well. Also marks very fast (within a week).
This professor was overall a good teacher. I took his online class in Fall 2020. Ended up failing his class. His lectures are nice, he makes some-what funny jokes and students participate. I find that he missed an important part of the material by giving more applied problems which was what the final was about. You need to read the textbook w/him
Great Professor, grades well. exams are fair, most problems on his exams are similar to ones covered in class. Will respond to emails and is accessible outside of class. Cracks some nice jokes, the class is also interactive. To pass, attend the lectures and you should be fine.
Really good and caring teacher. Probably the best option to choose for math classes. Very clear instructions for assignments/quizzes/tests and very quick grader.
Attend his lectures!!! He is probably your best option if you actually want to understand ENGR213, he barely uses slides, but his notes during class are A1. Pretty average midterms.
Explains very well and his exams have no surprises in them.
he is a tough grader. he took a lot of marks for nothing. and u can't talk to him since he is always in a bad mood
Awful professor with straight up unfair exams. The second you want to discuss your test, he gets grumpy and unpleasant. Even when you come in good faith, he shows no respect to honest students who just disagree with his grading. To be fair, the lectures are decent, but apparently being fair isn't part of his values.
Very tough grader. He penalizes you for no reason and when you ask for an explanation he gets mad. He pride himself on teaching the basic of engineering when in reality he is teaching students to fear his harsh for nothing grading.
His project for Summer 2023 was a complete farce, he wanted to experiment but gave us a project where we had no prior context on how to approach the problem (fluid dynamics), and made it a big point that he would not be taking any questions about the project as "made it clear enough".
Grade distribution for Summer 2023: A+: 4, A: 6, A-: 8, B+: 13, B: 14, B-: 11, C+: 17, C: 15, C-: 10, D+: 0, D: 6, D-: 7, F: 0, FNS: 13. This professor made the exam BRUTALLY hard, and about 1/3rd of his class failed. He took all possible hardest questions per chapter (without IVPs), and put them in his terrible final exam. Avoid at all costs.
If you attend the lectures and complete the problems in the textbook to ensure you understand what he taught in class, there will be no surprises on the quizzes, midterms or final exams. I had to put in work for this class but it is due to the nature of the class, and Paradis made learning much easier. Would take again for any math courses.
I was a deferred student during the fall 2023 term and had the honor to have Professor Paradis as my mentor to excel on the final exam. He is an outstanding engineering professor known for his passionate teaching style and dedication to student success .He is by far the best professor at Concordia University.
The best.
One of the best profs especially during your first year. He explains in such a simple and clear manner. Preparing you well for the midterms and finals. He grades kind of strictly but still fair. As long as you attend EVERY lecture (no PowerPoint) and do the exercises. Easy A
Absolute best teacher for ENGR 213. highly recommend. His lectures are really good but his expertise lies really on his resources and the chronology of the topics he teaches. He starts with stuff that are important and later moves onto the applications. His notes are A1. Everything is explained so well and starts from the basics everytime.
The best Math prof I've ever had. Well-explained lecture. Fair quiz and tests if you do exercises he recommends in the textbook. Veryyy nice, passionate, funny, and organizing. Really enjoy his lectures. Treasure of Engineering Department.
Paradis is really great ! His lectures are all on chalkboard so be ready to be 100% focused in class. He teaches you how to actually do the exercises that'll be on the exam and doesn't spend too much time on useless theory, so I appreciate that. His finals are pretty hard, but his midterms are fair, and I think he's an ok grader.
Great professor, gives clear explanations and prepares well for the final. The class does only have 2 exams and the midterm can be a little long, but if you do all the suggests problems and attend lectures you should be well prepared. He is also very caring and wants everyone to succeed.
Great teacher that doesn't put you to sleep. Gives many suggested problems that help with understanding the material and are at the same level of difficulty as his quizzes and tests. He is also a fair grader and gives partial marks. Would definitely take again
Best teacher ever! His teaching methods are very good, I was able to get a really good grade in his class. His quizzes and exams are fair, they relate a lot to the textbook exercises and examples he does in class. Also very funny. Bonus: he lets us keep the quizzes and midterms after correction.
If you are with Alexandre Paradis, you are in good hands. His lectures are very informative, as he explains the course material in details and explains it straightforwardly. I would recommend this teacher, as I would take him again if I have to take another ENGR course. Fair grader, gives a lot partial marks on quizzes and exams.
Paradis is a great teacher. His lectures are straightforward and very well explained. He answers questions during class and after class. He does give out surprise quizzes, but just keep up with the lectures and webworks to get 100%. His tests are long but easy if you do ALL the suggested problems. Just put in the work and you'll do great.
A lot of people told me to get this teacher, but i regret it. He is a tough grader and his exams are really long. If u make any minor mistake, he will remove a lot unnecessary point. i would never recommand him to anyone, dont be fooled by the high rating, this teacher was my downfall.
Explains topics well with a lot of visuals to help Midterms are similar to the examples covered in class, with a few modifications. Overall very fun experience
Very engaging professor, his lectures are not boring and he is attentive to pacing. His exams are not the hardest but they're also not free. Do all the suggested problems in the textbook and finish all the webworks and you'll probably do decently well. Grading for questions is a little harsh at times but a very fair teacher.
Amazing professor, his explanations of the course material is clear and precise. He writes everything on the board, which makes it very easy to understand the material.
Professor Paradis is absolutely goated. His lectures are super clear and he is passionate about what he is teaching. I would definitely take him again. I got a A in ENGR 233 and I didn't have to pull my hair out for it. Definitely recommend.
He is an excellent professor. The questions he gives us in both tests are the same from the suggested problems with slightly different numbers. He is always available during office hours and really takes his time to explain every single detail.
This teacher explains the material on the board in each class, he doesn't just read off his notes. His quizzes and tests are very doable (he tells you the date in advance). Make sure to attend and listen in his classes because if you don't, it will be harder to catch up. Do all the webworks before time, DO NOT leave them for the last minute.
One of the best prof there is. His lectures and notes are super clear. Very pleasant prof to be around. His final was super difficult tho.
Showing up to his lectures make comprehension so much easier through examples and theory. Homework is substantial, but essential to succeed.
Good lecturer and very much cares about students, his handwriting is hieroglyphics though. Make sure to study from the textbook as he takes his exam and quiz questions from there
He is really a good teacher, and really knows what he is doing. His midterms are not easy for the ones who don't practice. But if you study well and practice the suggested problems you will be more than fine. You don't even need to read the text book, you just use it to do problems.
He can be picky when grading assignments/tests
Aside from the tricky final, I absolutely had a blast with him. He always gives clear examples, and he is very helpful during his office hours. Listen to his guidelines and what he looks for in your exams as he can be picky with his grading. Nonetheless, he is a sweet person that deeply cares for his students!
Really good prof, he is a pretty chill guy, and I found his teaching style very nice. This class isn't too bad, if you thought Math 205 was hard/easy, this class won't be too bad. He wants you to succeed and do well. Would recommend him as a professor.
I had this professor for winter semester 2025. He was great at explaining the material and spoke loud enough to cover the entire auditorium. The midterms we had were simple and easier than most of the practice problems (70 avg). However, the midterms did not prepare us at all for the final as it was brutal. But I still recommend him nonetheless.
Clear lectures, quizzes are announced, understands and answers questions, Midterm and final are fair
Amazing prof, made me fall in love with vector calculus. His passion for the topic is contagious.
Good prof. Clearly let's you know what is expected on midterms/finals and teaches the material pretty well. Though his writing may sometimes be a bit messy and it's sometimes hard to decipher what he wrote.
AMAZING. his lectures are very engaging and he is pretty funny. very available outside the class via email or in person. highly recommend! there is a reason why he is the GOAT!
I have no idea what the 1 and 2 star ratings are talking about. This prof is the real deal. He makes you care about the topic. Of course many students skip lectures or don't pay much attention and come whining here but it's really on them. Engineering is not for everyone after all.
Very lenient
