The best professor I have ever had! I felt %100 that she did everything in her power to help me succeed. Office hours were always helpful, and her door was always open! I hated Chemistry before Dr. Ormond.
Not only is Dr. Ormond my Chemistry professor, but she is primarily my academic advisor for my freshman year here at Meredith. I truly feel like I can come to her for more than just Chemistry, and I probably wouldn't have chosen to major in Chemistry if it weren't for the influence she has had on me since I've been here. She is truly a blessing.
This class requires a lot of studying. She is always helpful during office hours.
She doesn't know how to teach the information she run the lecture quickly so it makes it harder to grasp the Info . She is nice and all but not a good teacher
Dr. Ormond is really kind! She's funny in class and is very accessible outside of class. The course is tough, and you will work hard for your A in the class, but her tests more than prepare you for the ACS. If you put in the effort, you can be successful in her class.
She moves through lectures very quickly, so word of advice: Read the sections and take notes BEFORE the lecture, that way you can ask any question while she's teaching it. Her door is always open as well and sometimes outside of her normal hours. She answers emails quickly too, and was a huge help for some homework.
She does not know how to teach which is frustrating. Her exams does not replicate what we cover in class. The materials we spend excessive amounts of time on in class will not be the main focus on the exam. Also, on her exams, she likes to put lots of question on materials we barley covered in class.
Dr. Ormond speeds through her lecture too quick. She has a habit of saying, "life moves on" but she needs to stop and help those who're struggling. Sometimes the practice exams help. I do like the in class assignments. Most of the practice problem done in class have nothing to do with the mastering chem homework.
Dr. Ormond is tough, but she prepares you for the ACS exam. Be sure to read ahead, watch Khan Academy (especially with Acid-Base reactions), and buy/borrow an ACS GenChem Official Guide (invaluable when it comes to preparing for the final). Dr. Ormond is very accessible-If you do not understand something, ask!
Works at a fast pace, overall she's an outstanding professor
Ormond is very fast paced, so be ready to keep up. Shes a very sweet woman, but her exams are extremely difficult if you arent 110% understanding material. Use the learning center. Go to her office hours. DONT MISS CLASS. All info and problems are done and explained in class, so skipping wont help even though the class can suck.
Nice lady, horrible professor. Teaching method is more review than teaching. Difficult to get in touch with. Speeds through lecture and material. Tests are on what is reviewed in lecture. Study class notes / practice test to do well. Teach yourself everything. Save your time and take the class elsewhere or with a different professor.
Dr. Ormond is one of the best professors I have ever had. She was always available to meet during office hours if needed. Her tests are difficult, but if you study practice exams and powerpoints you should be fine. She does not give a lot of quizzes but she will do in-class assignments that count as quiz grades. I would recommend taking her class!
The best word to describe this professor is vague. She speeds through materials and is condescending and short in explanations. The homework, lectures, and textbook are three different platforms with different and often conflicting information, and the test and quizzes while being vague and poorly worded often barely pertain to class materials.
If your GPA is important to you do not take this class with this professor! Beyond the atrocious structure and teaching, expect difficult tests with no relevance to class materials, low class averages and quizzes with 3 possible points worth a decent chunk of your grade. You will spend more time in this class than any other and it won't matter. 0/5
She is insulting to students who ask questions, gets off topic often, and is unclear in her explanations. She expects you to understand everything the first time and allows for no learning curve. The materials are not presented well often only in one format that is either unclear or incomplete. Over all she creates a toxic learning environment.
Mediocre chem Prof at best. Uses very condescending wording when you ask a question, could I do it again I'd take any other Prof.
Did not accommodate during COVID at all. DO. NOT. TAKE. HER. She laughs when students ask questions. I'll leave it at that. Save yourself the time.
She has a dry sense of humor, but she genuinely cares about her students' success. Too many freshmen and sophomores take the class expecting grades to be given to them without reviewing outside of class. I don't understand what people mean when they say, "She can't teach." Do people expect to learn the info via osmosis? Proximal knowledge transfer?
This class is hard. Taking it online did not make it any easier. However, Dr. Ormond was good at explaining things and helping out with questions. Just wish we had more time on quizzes and exams.
Fantastic! tells you in syllabus day 1 what you need to suceed, take it seriously. She has to move fast bc theres a lot to cover. REWATCH her online lectures where she can go slow, appreciate she has those available! even for science ppl chem 2 is a lot, you will need to put in the time no matter who teaches it. exam time is short but ?s are fair
Dr. Ormond is a funny and friendly professor. However, she goes through the content so fast that I have trouble writing the notes down. She knows her stuff, but sometimes I don't understand her explanations because she follows them quickly. I don't recommend taking this class unless you like quick lectures.
Dr. Ormond is very tough. Not the kindest or the most understanding. Definitely knows her stuff though. Would not recommend to anyone who learns slow. She goes SO fast and her exams are long.
VERY VERY VERY TOUGH GRADER
Gives no partial credit whatsoever. Such a stickler
If you're struggling, she won't help you out one bit
Takes forever to answer a single email and to give back exams. Likely you'll go into an exam with no idea what you got on the last one. She goes through exam material and slides trying to cram in multiple lessons in the last few seconds of class. Don't miss a single word because the tiniest thing will show up on a quiz and exam.
Tests are not fair. They are HARD
Dr. Ormond is a Great professor that in my opinion is very fair and is willing to help in class and office hours when you don't understand. Her lectures are full of valuable information so I recommend paying attention the whole time as she does go fast but always tries to make sure we understand before moving on. She is insanely smart and kind.
She's very caring towards her students, I panicked one day after an exam and she calmed me down by reassuring me it's okay to make mistakes and they will happen but they won't stop you (true story). Since then I've had lots of trust in her as a professor. The class is fast paced (orgo), but if you give yourself ENOUGH time to study you'll be okay!
Dr. Ormond can be a tough professor, but she is always so willing to help. She is always available during her office hours and will even make accommodations for students who cannot make those times. Dr. Ormond wants to see her student succeed in her class! Her class is not easy, but none of chemistry is easy. You have to put in work, but she cares.
Dr. Ormond is an amazing professor who sets students up for success in orgo. She gives tips from day one and expects hard work. Key advice: rely on Klein, practice a lot, and study consistently. Attend lectures and office hours. She's fair and supportive but won't spoon-feed, you're IN COLLEGE, you have to put in the effort to succeed.
Dr. Ormond is amazing! Orgo is super hard, she really breaks it down so you can succeed if you put in the effort. Her lectures are organized, and she always makes time to help during office hours. She's fair and understanding but expects you to stay on top of your work. She is arguably one of the best if not THE best professor in the MC chem dept.
I can say with full confidence that she prepares us for her tests. If you pay attention and put in the work you will be successful. She also helps those that seek help out, she can't read your mind! So if you need help go to her office hours!
This professor really cares about her students and will take time to help you if you have questions. This is a harder class but if you put in the work and ask questions you will do well.
I am not doing well in this class but I can confidently say that it is due to my own personal circumstances this semester. It has nothing to do with her teaching or exams! She is kind, funny, inspirational, and beautiful inside out. Even today, she sat with me in her office for an hour and went over time to make sure I understood things. She cares!
The best chemistry professor hands down! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Top Notch! Get ready to LOVE organic chemistry!!!
It's unfair to report negative reviews just cause you don't like them. People can have opinions and different experiences than you. She's mean and failed us as a professor. I went to every class and still got an F. She ignored me in office hours just cause she didn't like me
She got rid of retakes for all her classes just cause of something one person did. She also got tougher and silenced people who shared their experiences. Cause she complained about reviews on here and her favorite students reported them. I never seen a professor like her who get mad cause they received reviews they didn't like
I didn't expect to be spoon fed but I needed support and she didn't give me any. My gpa went down so much after getting F in this class. She shows no mercy and has favorites who give positive comments here to make her seem kind she's not
Everyone complains about her but is too scared to post about her cause she read a speech to scare us from posting when she didn't like the comments on here
She makes a very toxic learning environment and exams are too long. Too many questions, too little time. Practice exams are nothing like in class exams. Likely you will get 100 on practice exam and less than 50 on actual exam
I went to her office hours for support with exam correction and she laughed at me. I know she can't give me answers but it would be nice if she didn't laugh at students always and make them feel dumb because she enjoy it
She stopped doing test corrections and exam retakes. She also started going faster in class and said we can handle it. People learn at differing speeds and she didn't care. She expected everyone to just keep up. She enjoyed torturing people this semester. We don't need educators who want to see students end up with Fs instead of As and Bs
People left the postbac program because they were traumatized by her
My gpa went from a 3.0 to a 2.66 cause I got an F in her class. She doesn't care about student success and won't help if you're struggling. She enjoys seeing struggling
Dr. Ormond was very sweet and understanding with me but I can't pretend she was like that with everyone because she wasn't. She gave my friends a very hard time and made them cry a lot. People in this class were seriously struggling. I think part of the reason I did well is because I had already taken orgo before. She makes it hard for first timers
I was at an 89.3 and she gave me a B. Given how hard orgo is, she could've had some grace. We also didn't have retakes so it would've been nice if she took my work into consideration. I got that grade on my own without retakes and without cheating like some of the other postbacs
If you are taking Organic 2 for dental or med school, don't. I would recommend taking it at NC State or another college to save your gpa. A F will really bring you down a lot more than you think
She didn't offer partial credit and she ignored people she didn't like in office hours. She's very tough and inconsiderate. She also offers no emotion or empathy
She canceled office hours a lot second semester and stopped responding to emails
She gives no extra credit or chance to boost your grade
She's pretty rude and unlikable. She lets opinions get in the way of teaching which isn't good. Everyone should have the same access to education!
I wanted to un-scare new upcoming students to take organic with Dr. Oromond. I promise you, other teachers teaching this class are a million times worse. Dr. Ormond is very understanding, and her office hours are amazing. Ppl don't understand that OChem is not easy; you really need to study to do well. IF YOU DO NOT DO KLEINS, YOU WILL BE DOOMED.
I only took her once and now I understand why people would leave the postbacc program after having her. She's really mean and sassy. She makes students uncomfortable and creates a toxic learning environment that doesn't leave room for questions
Dr Ormond was a decent professor. She explains things well but does come across as intimidating at times. She does care and does want her students to succeed but I think has a hard time making it known. I say give her a chance and just try really hard, she can tell when students care about class or not. She's definitely a tough grader though.
She often makes offensive comments and also embarrasses students thinking she is being funny and better than everyone. Asking questions matters in orgo and office hours, but she makes students scared to participate due to the way she mortifies students. I hope I don't have to take her ever again
Kleins is a billion times easier than the actual exams. It only teaches the basic concepts. But her actual exams test much more than that which is why people are never prepared for actual exams. Her practice problems are also nothing like her actual exams. She isn't setting students up for success. She's doing the exact opposite.
I tried a lot to understand this class but I'm unable to perform well in exams because we aren't taught the concepts well. RMP reviews are more important to her than our need for knowledge. How am I expected to perform well in exams and pre-lab quizzes if I am not taught well.
She humiliates students, shuts down questions with sarcasm, and belittles people in front of the class. She doesn't explain concepts clearly and blames students for her own lack of clarity! The class feels toxic, hostile, and discouraging every day. Even after doing Kleins and all practice problems, I'm struggling and she only cares about her RMP.
We were promised MCAT-style teaching this year fall in her postbac class, but am not getting it. I am disappointed as I'm unable to do well in MCAT. She doesn't help students understand chemistry concepts, which is unfortunate. I am struggling and have no help. Meredith's postbac promises you a lot but leaves you with absolutely nothing.
Dr. O is the reason that I'm a chem major. She is incredibly caring and always willing to work with you outside of class to help you understand whatever you're struggling with. Chem is HARD! The classes she teaches are tough! But if you're willing to put in the work, you will leave her class(es) having received an incredible chemistry education.
Dr. Ormond's class was difficult as a non STEM major, but she helped me with getting through lessons that I didn't understand. 10/10 would take her again!
Dr. Ormond is one of the best professors I have had. She is always willing to answer any questions students have, and has never once made me feel bad for asking them. She cares about her students and wants them to learn, but the students have to be willing to put in the work too, she's not going to give you a grade you didn't earn.
I absolutely love Dr. Ormond! Very accommodating. Good lecture style, doesn't make you feel dumb if you ask questions in class. Always willing to help you out.
Dr. Ormond was one of my favorite professors I've had. She is super sweet and always willing to help. She does move through content quickly, but I think any orgo class is like that. I especially loved her as my lab professor
Dr Ormond is professional, caring, and respects her students. She does not beat around the bush, do the work, come to class, and you will get the grade YOU EARNED! Tests are not difficult, and are easy enough to study for. She makes the class enjoyable and is always willing to help students.
Students must be told before joining the program about what they must expect from a fast paced course. Students aren't told that exams are taken the very next day after a concept is taught. Concept is incompletely taught. How do u expect students to do well on tests? Its wrong but if a student isn't taught well he will obviously do poorly and copy
Difficult exams. Not surprised that this class is my lowest midterm grade. There's no way to succeed. Even after doing Klein and practice problems, my grade is not budging from a C
My lowest midterm grade because she offers no help and gives no chances to improve your grade or understanding of the material
Group assignments are set up for people with friends only. If you don't know anyone in the class and you're an introvert, good luck because the setup of this classroom won't let you succeed. You'll sit alone struggling with the work if you have no friends. People with friends will work in groups of 8-10 in front of you. Prof doesn't care or help
Incredible professor. Absolutely life-changing experience. I've never learned so little by anyone else. Every lecture stands out because no one knows what was going on, including her. Truly inspiring how she could read straight off the slides and still manage to confuse us. Her grading system is also abstract. No one understands it but her!
Rude and unfair
She is setting a wrong example by instilling fear in students' minds by telling them that she would sabotage a student's career through her connections with medical schools in NC. I had to listen to this too and I will say this is awfully unethical and wrong of her to do. Shame on Meredith postbac program.
I'm currently a D1 and wanted to come on here and say Dr. Ormond is the least understanding or supportive professor. She hated me and didn't want me to get into dental school but I did against all odds, even when she tried to hurt my application chances. She's manipulative and petty with an uncontrolled anger problem
She doesn't care if you understand or not. It's a chain reaction - Students' understanding of the concepts is not ensured by the instructor- do bad/fail the course- retake the course- postbac program makes 2X the money for each course. So it benefits their pockets. She only cares about her salary. She can't care less about where students end up.
I study and don't come on this website daily but the person below me was nasty for no reason :) so no, studying doesn't make up for her inability to teach! Stop with the fake smileys and passive aggressiveness. Enroll in therapy instead of being a defense attorney for professors. Btw you graduated. So focus on applications instead of your past!
STOP WRITING IN ALL CAPS AND BEING A PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE SNARK!! AND STOP LIVING IN YOUR PAST WHEN YOU ARE NOT IN HER CLASS CURRENTLY AND HAVE NO IDEA WHAT SHE'S LIKE RIGHT NOW!!! Maybe then you'll do better in life and actually get into dental or med school instead of being a failure ;)
Oh look, it's the post baccs from last year coming on here to defend their professors because they don't have any interviews to prepare for (you aren't getting into any school, so focus on that instead of RMP)
Very wicked twisted woman
She's a very racist and biased individual with anger issues and pettiness
Now that exams are officially over, I can confirm she's the worst and meanest professor ever. The good reviews are posted by her students from last year. She's makes people's lives miserable!!!! I hope I never see her again
Ignore the positive reviews!!! Only take her if you want an F to leave a dent in your applications
I know chem is difficult but I truly do believe because of Dr. O, I switched to a chem major and I couldn't have been happier. She is an amazing teacher with so much sympathy if you get to know her. She rounded my grade as well and gave me reccs. Please give her a chance and stop bullying, she's a sweetheart.
She doesn't round grades and threatens students when they ask for recommendations because she wants them to feel like they deserve nothing good
It's probably easier to get into a PhD at Harvard than it is to make this professor happy. No matter how kind you are, she won't like you if she doesn't want to. She picks and chooses who she's nice to which isn't fair at all. I've cried so much this semester and couldn't be more thankful to Jesus that the semester is over!!! Hallelujah
I experienced DISCRIMINATION and UNEQUAL treatment from her and Dr. Aghoram. The professors clearly FAVOR certain students, and it shows in their mentorship. Everyone deserves fair, respectful treatment!!
She's the worst professor in the history of professors
All the honest reviews underneath reflect real student experiences. However, it's strange that when criticism appears, it's often met with defensive replies and self-praises, questioning students, instead of accountability.
