THE BEST teacher at SSC. Bar none.

There are no words to describe him. Lets just say that each and every class is an experience in itself. I strongly recommend taking one of his classes if you get the chance he's funny and knows what he is talking about.
He is a great professor. He is very funny, and jokes around. You will never have another professor like him.

Easily the greatest Professor at Salem State.
One of the best teachers at SSC. His 101 classes fill up fast because he's so great. He keeps your attention and he's funny as hell. You have to sit in on one of his classes to understand. Def take him if you've got the chance.
Professor K is the MAN! He is hilarious and the nicest guy. I hate to biased but he is the best professor in the history department and damn near the best at SSC!
He's funny ~ the tests are a ton of writing!
do yourself a favor- history major or no- take a class with kyrou. it's better than sex
Professor Kyrou is the man.....he is my comedic relief for the week...I love going to his class because you never know what he's going to do ro say...always a surprise
granted the topic is probably the most boring subject in the world he keeps me somewhat awake. he is kinda of hard on the tests but makes up for it by scaling them by 10 pts if you do bad!!! he doesn't help you so don't ask and in this specific class he writes**** on the board and spits info at u... very unclear but im sure he's real good in subjects he himself are interested in
I really enjoy his class. we take a lot of notes, but his lectures are awesome. he always has something insanly funny to say.
Friggin hilarious guy. He looks like Peter Griffin, tells stories about jelly donuts, and randomly opens the classroom door and barks into the hallway. He totally does a great job keeping you awake in class even if the lectures are a little bland. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, you wont regret it.
Probably the worst teacher i've ever had. He never shows to class, so i have wasted about 2 tanks on showing up & finding he's not there he gives the worst notes you basically have to teach yourself. the test questions have almost nothing to do with the "info" he gave in class DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
I try to take as many course with him as possible. He is one of the finest and funniest proffers at a college that does not have many. I would go to college just to have him everyday.
World CIV one, definatly take him, go to class, and study and his tests are easy. Don't need the book, if you can fluff your essays.
Picture Bill Murray teaching history. Prepare to take _lots_ of notes all class long. If you work hard and pay attention there is no way you won't do well, but there is a lot to learn.
Kyrou was a very memorable professor! He made the subject interesting. He jokes around a lot, and sometimes will randomly yell at something just to be funny, which made me jump in my seat a million times. I remember on the last day of one class, he told us all to make paper airplanes, and throw them at him.
Lectures & tests are hard. Grades easy but you need to do papers. Missed a lot of classes.
Kyrou is the most amazing professor Salem State has to offer. His class is very easy and is cancelled often. When not cancelled, you are let out very early. Tests are average but there are only 3 per semester. I have already signed up for HST 201 with him over the summer!!!!!!!
One of the best history profs I've ever had. Had a sense of humor and infused it throughout his lectures breaking up the monotony of World Civ. Exams were cake if you showed up to class and paid a little attention. Highly recommended, especially for non-history majors and those forced through the World Civ series.
Highly dedicated to his students and his willingness to help his students is a true expression to his character.
Class was great. I loved his teaching style and I learned a lot.
A good person who makes learning fun. Very knowledgeable, understanding, and supportive. Willing to help you out. What's there not to like about that? I highly recommend him.
Great! Funny! makes it easy to be in class considering the subject if you are not a fan. easy grader. great guy!
horrible, horrible class. tons of work and always ran at least 10 minutes late.
Could be one of the most entertaining professors you will ever have. His sense of humor does not take away from his effectiveness as an instructor or his professional manner. You will learn a lot, provided that you do your work. His comments on papers are superior in their relevance, helping to guide the student to a better end product. Must take!
These are some of the best classes I have ever had. Not only do you learn a lot but the classes are presented in a way that are humorous and quite enjoyable. If your a history major or not i would recommend any class with Dr. Kyrou
I wish I had found him before my senior year! He is very knowledgeable and humorous, as well as being a very understanding and kind person. There is a LOT of note-taking in his class and we frequently get out of class late but you never notice the extra time because he's so engaging! You will most likely have to write a paper.
Fabulously funny and amazingly entertaining. Sometimes his class is the only reason I come to school. You learn tons during the lecture (the work is intense) but he is brilliant in that he can tell when the class gets bored. Can't wait to take another class with him!
3 rules to the class-show up, keep up with the reading & write down everything he says-you'll do great. Notes are intense-guaranteed hand cramp every class-but you'll learn alot! He wants to teach you & make sure you understand the material. Lectures are delivered in an entertaining manner & you never know what he'll say...he's so random yet funny!
Lot of notes, entertaining presentation. Show up, take notes, good grade.
DR. K IS THE MAN! i would recommend everyone to take at least once. His test can be difficult at times but he is a very grader and really cares about his students. There is a lot of note taking in his class so be prepared to write but he takes break in between sections and tells hilarious stories man can be a comedian in all honesty.
I wish that I had found Kyrou earlier! His class is one of the most challenging I have, but it also is the most interesting and honestly the only class that I actually /want/ to go to. Be ready to take lots of notes, but otherwise the class is very reasonable; Kyrou knows when to throw in a joke or story to relax everyone. Bottom line: Take Kyrou.
This guy is a riot! Prepare for enough notes to fill the full period but somehow its worth it. He knows what he's talking about, he's passionate about the material, and he really understands how to run a class. Take a class with him if you get the chance you won't regret it!
Take notes and show up. Kyrou is the reason I'm a history minor; i've taken four classes with him. He's knows what he's talking about and he breaks up the class with crazy stories to keep you engaged. To quote, "I value vowels" and "Part 2, for the quality and taste of Elaine's pies..."
he is awesome! his classes are entertaining and he keeps you engaged. his style is literally only taking notes and a few tests a semester. one final paper and you're all set. you want to make sure you attend every class because you dont want to miss the notes, and plus who wouldnt want to go his stories are hilarious. "the letter C is unnecessary!"
He was a great teacher. I learned quite a lot, and he was very funny, our class always had a story to tell.
He's hilarious and gives interesting lectures that make writing 4-7 pages of notes completely worth it!
Kyrou is a great professor. His tests are hard if you don't go in being prepared. He has a great sense of Humor. Highly recomended if you want to learn about Eastern Europe History Major or not! Be prepared to take a lot of notes, the only issue that I have had is that he doesn't write things down
Dr. Kyrou is so much fun to have as a professor. His classes are a lot of work: extensive notes and in depth questions. However, his relaxed style, amusing anecdotes, and crazy antics more than make up for that. The best part is that he wants his students to do well, so he is very helpful to his students. You won't regret taking a course with him!
Dr. Kyrou knows his stuff, and he will impart that to you in depth and at length. Never taken so many notes in my life, but his classes are interesting and entertaining. I would definitely urge anyone to take a class with him, especially if you love history.
Dr. Kyrou is a trip. Be prepared to take copious, painstaking notes- but they are interrupted by tirades of personal commentary that are just hysterical. Very worthwhile, will take class with again.
Kryuo is the man. He makes class time enjoyable for everyone. You have take alot of notes in class but the notes are important to be able to pass.
Kyrou is one of the main reasons that Eastern European history is interesting to me. He gives tons of notes, but they actually mean something and are not meant to merely fill up time. He also always knows when to throw a funny joke/ story in to give you a rest. If I were not graduating, I would continue to take all of the classes he teaches at SSC.
Professor Kyrou made Ottoman history come alive. His notes were long, but funny. I loved every second of class.
Dr. Kyrou is a professor that every history major should take a class with before graduating SSC. Before taking the class I did not have much interest in Ottoman history. I was taking it merely to fill a requirement. However, Dr. Kyrou made the subject come alive which made it extremely interesting. There are many notes, but everything makes sense.
As a six week course this history class was not easy but Professor Kyrou understood our fustration. He is a good teacher and wants the success of his students.
Dr. Kyrou is really sarcastic & funny. He cancels class a lot. He wants everyone to do well. There is a LOT of note taking but it's bearable. If you seem to put in an effort, he will notice. I recommend taking a class with him. He really cares about his students.
Dr. Kyrou is the funniest and best thing this University has to offer. His style of teaching is again the funniest yet most efficient style of teaching. Every history major needs to take Kyrou. You won't regret it.
This guy is awesome. Not a bad word to say about the guy. Funny, smart, overall a great teacher. Gives a lot of notes but you would have to be crazy not to take him.
Dr. Kyrou is one of the best professors I've had at Salem State. He's completely willing to answer any question, and understands that students need a break from lecture sometimes - so he makes the best jokes EVER. I recommend him to anyone!
Dr. Kyrou is one of the best professors I've had at Salem State. He's completely willing to answer any question, and understands that students need a break from lecture sometimes - so he makes the best jokes EVER. I recommend him to anyone!
Prof. Kyrou's knowlege of Balkan history is surpassed only by his ability to make this subject very entertaining. Gregarious and sharp witted, Mr. Kyrou is a delight in the classroom. His lectures are precise and highly organized, and he always breaks the monotony by going off on a tangent for a few minutes every 1/2 hour or so.
Dr. Kyrou is an awesome History teacher, very knowledgable of the subject matter, extremely helpful to students, and always approachable for any needed assistance! Love Him!!
Really great person. Really great professor too. Friendly, down to earth, funny, etc. Good class, learned a lot.
Alexandros Kyrou's is the best professor I had at Salem State. I had Balkins I-II, Byzantium,Ottoman Empire, and my History seminar with him. As long as you're interested in the class, you take notes and pay attention you will do great. Kyrou is a AMAZING story teller so pay him the attention he deserves. and his books for Balkin I - II are awesome
Can I just say this guy is the best professor I've ever had? He teaches in the "lecture at you" style, but manages to make it engaging and, dare I say it...fun? Definitely knows his stuff, too. I always look forward to class with him!
Kyrou is one of the single best professors I have had while here at Salem State. He manages to take an hour and fifteen minute class of all lecture based notes entertaining and fun. For an Ottoman History class that has to cover a huge time frame in fifteen weeks you learn a ton. Take Kyrou when you can he is amazing!!!
His successful lack of technology makes the classroom experience unique. He is one of the most knowledgeable professors at SSU. Although specializing in Balkan and Eastern European History, he is able to discuss a plethora of topics both in history and outside. His class will be a different and worthwhile experience. A sense of humor is required.
Professor Kyrou's class is always an interesting experience, he gives tests and lectures that make you want to never miss a class. The texts aren't really necessary and I feel like I've learned what i needed to on lecture alone. Tests are a little unpredictable and hard to study for.
Kyrou is one of the best professors I have had at Salem State. Although attendance isn't mandatory, it is necessary to do well on the exams since they are based on the lectures. The classes are very entertaining.
I can honestly say that in the four years at SSU Kyrou has been hands down the best professor i have had. Be prepared to take notes like crazy but he keeps his lectures fun and interesting so you don't zone out. This is my last semester and I have him for two classes, perfect way to end my college career.
Dr. Kyrou is a foremost source on the history of the Balkans. His class was a pleasure to take and I would highly recommend it to anyone undertaking a History Program. Furthermore, Dr. Kyrou is HILARIOUS. His comedic interludes make the class so much more enjoyable. Be sure to tell him your favorite processed lunch meat.
Really fantastic professor who is extremely knowledgeable about his subject matter and its larger place in the study of history as a whole. I came in with a basic familiarity of the historical era and left with a clear understanding of the themes and narratives we discussed. Lots of note taking, but not onerously so. Very amusing, hilarious.
The best lecture professor I have had, period. He is rather eccentric and a little odd, but that is part of what makes him so good. He is Captivating which allows some of his lectures that cover less exciting topics to be enjoyable. I would highly recommend to anyone seeking a welcoming learning experience.
Dr. Kyrou is an excellent Professor. You'll take a lot of notes, but it's worth it-You're here to learn- and you get a comedy show on the side. Dr. Kyrou is hilarious, he has funny little stories throughout the lecture. His enthusiasm and knowledge about the topic (the Balkans) and his sense of humor made class extremely enjoyable!
Quite simply one of the finest lecturers I have ever encountered. I do not think that anyone would be sorry about taking an Kyrou class. He is thoughtful, helpful, and a brilliant historian, and he disseminates the information in a fun, and interesting way. Highly recommended!!!
Amazing and best professor I have had so far. He is very understanding, and extremely helpful. He makes class very fun and interesting. Hilarious guy! I just love his class and the way he teaches as well. I would extremely recommend him! Best history professor ever.
He is an incredible teacher. He is courteous inside and outside of class. He has mastered his subject area, has a style of pedagogy rarely found. I would advise potential students to view the scene of Sam Kinison's history class from the movie "Back to School" to get a general idea as to what you could experience at times.
Very fun. A well taught class and a good professor.
Dr. Kyrou lectures for the entirety of class time. Your notes will be copious, your hand will cramp, but you won't care. A brilliant lecturer, Dr. Kyrou, holds your interest, often pausing for an anecdote or non sequitur to give you a rest. He is not wanting for a sense of humor. He is a wealth of knowledge & has a kind heart. A perfect gentleman.
The class was very lecture heavy, requiring much note taking. However, Kyrou is both complete and concise with his lectures and manages to keep your attention the entire class. He also cares deeply about his students' progress
I have taken Byzantine history, Ottoman history and history of the Balakans with Dr. Kyrou. He is an amazing professor. He not only makes the material easy to absorb but makes the class interesting and ectremly entertaining. If you put the effort into good note taking, undertanding the reading and being able to laugh you gain alot. Great Professor
Great person. It was my first graduate-level course in history. I was not a history major (undergrad) so I was really nervous. He was great. Friendly, helpful, encouraging, welcoming, etc. I worked hard. He always had my back because of my work ethic. I went on to finish the program and get the MA in History thanks to Kyrou. Awesome guy.
Best lecture professor I have ever had, period. Simply captivating. Anyone at SSU should take at least one class with him while you are there. Heavy note taking almost every class. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you skip you will fail.
Dr Kyrou is so enthusiastic during his lectures that he is able to easily capture your attention and interest. He is definitely THE best lecture professor I have had. As long as you pay attention to what he is saying and take proper notes I imagine it is difficult to fail.
Prof. Kyrou is a masterful lecturer and grabs your attention very quickly. He has a lot of fun and is clearly very passionate about history. Heavy note taking but absolutely worth it. I highly recommend taking Byzantine History or any class for that matter.
In one word: AMAZING. Hilarious, interesting, and intelligent... the trifecta. Easy A if you pay attention and take the notes you are supposed to take. Have never laughed more during a lecture while still feeling like I learned something. Be prepared to take heavy notes though. Thought my hand would fall off the first time, but you get used to it.
Best Professor I have ever had for a class. You will learn a lot by just going to class and taking down notes. He is very caring when it comes to a student's progress in the class. Also keeps the class interested by making jokes throughout class time. I strongly suggest you take a class that is taught by him, you will not regret it.
Kyrou is the best professor I have had at SSU by far. He has command over his subject material and is extremely knowledgeable. His lectures are top notch and makes his students really think.I enjoyed this class on all levels. They were exciting and informative. I was very pleased with this class.
If you don't take Kyrou you'll probably regret it. Great professor and all around great person! Take his class
Out of all the history professors I've had at SSU I've never been so entertained in a class as I have with Dr. Kyrou. You take a lot of notes and the course is heavy with information but Dr. Kyrou breaks it up with humor. I've never laughed so hard in a class before! My only regret was not taking more classes with him. Great professor and great guy
This is the second course I have taken with Dr. Kyrou. A talented, eloquent, and articulate educator and historian. He is a fantastic lecturer and probably one of the most hysterical individuals I have ever met. Combine incredible intelligence with comedy and you have Dr. Kyrou. His classes are a must for everyone.
If you have no interest in history, but are required to take a class in the subject, take Dr. Kyrou! His lectures are hilarious. He knows that some people find ancient history boring, and does his best to keep the class lively and fun. Best of all: he is a caring individual that wants you to do well in his class. Great guy, very knowledgable.
Dr. Kyrou is a probably the greatest history professor I've had, he has an undeniable love for the material but doesn't make the classroom experience akin to a church sermon. The amount of note taking is taxing physically, but the frequent breaks make it doable. If you come to class and give effort, you'll both do well and enjoy yourself. Omaha.
Kyrou is extremely fair. If he can't make a class, he takes account for it and makes it up to the class. Often times he made our tests shorter or changed due dates of papers to give us more time. He is very funny and will always help you out if you need it. Lectures are long, but he stops every once and a while and lightens the mood with is humor!
This class was a great class, it was world wars through film. Prof. Kyrou is hilarious and you are graded by four papers and that's it. You must attend class though because the movies are what the papers are about.
He referred to the eastern roman emperors as "those cats in the east" and then meowed each time he mentioned them. That's why you should take him.
One of the best professors I have ever had. If he taught a class that I need, I would take in a heartbeat. 10 out of 10, would take class again. I would highly recommend taking his classes.
I love this class so much. One of my favorite professors ever. He is so helpful and understanding. Always willing to answer questions and help you out. I would definitely take another class with him. Highly recommended taking a class with him
Classes are lectures and you need to take notes on everything. Can be daunting at first but you get the hang of it. His lectures are very clear and easy to understand and he makes them more interesting. He's very fair. I enjoyed this class and I'm not much of a history person, would take him again for sure.
Always hated history, but he got me interested to the point where I changed my minor. He manages to take a very serious, downer topic and make it interesting, including well-timed jokes that don't cross boundaries into insensitive or offensive.
There are two test each with two essay questions. Personally I don't do good with essay test but he helped me understand the information better. He was understanding that I have a difficult time with that kind of test style. If you have any problem at all talk to him. Mind you I never once understood a single history class until I took this class.
Interesting class, awesome professor. Professor Kyrou is one of the best professors I've ever taken. Extremely knowledgable and a great guy.
You only have 2 tests and 2 papers during the entire semester. He's good about grading, teaching you what you need to know, and keeps you on your toes with interesting lectures.
Prof Kyrou is one of the best teachers I've had at salem state. He is extremely fair and respectful. His lectures are long, but it doesn't feel that way. It's obvious that he cares about the content and the students. Your grade is based off of 2 papers and two tests, but as long as you go to class and take notes, they're easy. He's great! Take him!
He referred to the Byzantine archers as "Death Cab for Cutie wannabes" for the way their combat uniform. Frequently made "pewpewpew" noises when talking about artillery. Randomly will shout one word in the middle of every lecture to make sure the class is awake. This man is beautiful.
His enthusiasm for his class content is unmatched by any other professor. His classes are run strictly as lecture, gives two tests and a final exam, usually two book review assignments. He always has a hilarious story to share with class, is always joking. It is clear he cares about his students a lot. He is the best kind of professor.
The best professor at Salem State University. Extensive note taking, but that makes his few tests that much easier. Great lecturer, keeps the class entertained, and always kind and approachable. Simply the best there was, and the best there ever will be.
One of the best professors I have ever had. Lectures are long, but he breaks it up with hilarious stories and comments. Assignments are very easy and he is most likely to cancel a big assignment during the year.
No matter what he says, he is not a putrid eggplant!!!! He is a hilarious teacher with corny but funny jokes. If you want to learn while you have a good time take this professor. For instance, we discussed what he had for breakfast today for about 15 minutes. Like I said, he's a funny teacher.
BEST TEACHER IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!! But seriously, he is the best
He is probably one of the most funniest people i have met. During the lectures he will always give us a little break and just tell us funny stories/ jokes. I love that because it lightens the mood. When he lectures you can tell how much knowledge he has on the topic. For tests they are usually essay topics. No multiple choice questions.
I cannot recommend enough! I'm going on my third course with him. He keeps class fresh and exciting, you will never know what he will say and he is very smart. That being said he is one of the best professors around and is very accommodating to your needs just do yourself a favor and write everything down. You won't wanna miss a lecture!
HST 449 Great professor, hilarious makes everything interisting in classs. Never had dull moment in class
He is the best teacher ive had at salem state so far. Makes the class fun and made me want to learn. I would recommend him to anybody.
this guy, is hilarious. not only is he completely clear while giving his lectures: they are funny, well thought out, and borders on the side of absolute nonsense; and they are spectacular. you will leave this class with a wealth of knowledge, but the entire semester it will have felt like you guys were doing nothing but messing around. great guy!
great teacher. long lectures and goes a bit fast, but its always interesting
Dr. Kyrou once described to my class how he was an eggplant. This man is fantastic and hilarious. You learn so much about History from him and I would recommend him to any student looking to take a history course. Also he likes to yell, a lot. So much so that you get used to him. This man is a legend and the best history teacher I've ever had.
So I love this professor! He is so great and funny. BUT there are no power points and nothing on canvas. He talks all his note ALL OF THEM. If you don't go to class you will definitely miss a whole bunch of notes. Makes history fun though and pretty interesting. If you are good at note taking and memorizing then take him.
This guy is the real deal! You want to learn and he already knows it!
Dr. Kyrou is a tough lecturer but a great professor and fantastic story teller. He expects a lot but not so much that you will feel overwhelmed.
Pure lecture. Your hand will be tired from all of the writing BUT you will be laughing the entire time. Practically in tears. You'll have to get used to his random yelling and sense of humor. His tests are difficult because they are so specific but he often gives bonus points. Don't wait too long to begin the reading! You'll regret it.
I've now taken 2 courses with Dr. Kyrou. My first one was Balkans 1204-1804 course. In other classes he did lecture a lot, but they're informative and he does a great job making them interesting. This course allows you to explore the different depictions of the World War in film. There were some great film choices and only 4 short papers (6-8 pgs.)
Honestly be far the best teacher in the school. Makes you read a lot but you leave class actually learning something. Lecture heavy but he cracks a lot of jokes so that you almost never fall asleep. Doesn't give a lot of assignments only a few essay exams, but he is a tough grader. Is very detail oriented. Would honestly take him again if I could
Great friend, better lover! Shout out to Alexandros!
I am at the completion of 6 courses with Dr. Kyrou. You will not find a professor that cares more about you. You will learn more than you think you can handle, and then he will drop more onto your plate. But for as hard as he makes you work, he rewards you. Awesome guy, fair grader, and extremely clear on what is expected of you, just show up.
Possibly one of the best history professors I've ever had. Completely hilarious and random sometimes, has a tendency to cancel class often. Just stay up to date on notes and the class is a breeze.
Awesome teacher that will make you laugh during the lectures. Also, will help students and explain clearly the material.
Take his class!! I can guarantee you that you will not fall asleep. He is super funny! He is very understanding of his students. As for the class material, his lectures are clear and easy to understand. Make sure you listen well, because he doesn't do powerpoints.
Professor Kyrou is one of the best professors I have ever had. His genuine interest in student success is refreshing, and he truly wants each of his students to perform well. His passion for his subject is admirable, which is why his lectures are so enjoyable. If you listen to his lectures, and take good notes, you will be just fine in this class.
BEST HISTORY PROF EVER. Even if you don't care for history, he will make you fall in love with it. That being said, your hand will cramp up from taking non-stop notes and you NEED to take EXTENSIVE notes to do well on exams. In addition, you have to read 2 LENGTHY books, and submit 6-8 page essays for both. Personally I thought it was a bit much.
Dr. Kyrou is definitely the funniest professor I've taken. His passion for Eastern European History is, without fail, passed on to each of his students. His lecture style is very organic and fast paced, but he is always willing to answer questions, and has the utmost respect for his students and their opinions.
After having Dr. Kyrou as an adviser, it is kind of hard to not want to take one of his classes. His classes are lecture based only so be prepared to take extensive notes, literally write down everything he says. He will cancel at least one exam and one paper and give everyone full credit. He is also one of the funniest professors I have ever had.
Dr. Kyrou is an incredibly fair and respectful instructor. All he really asks of you is to show up to class and take notes on his lectures. He is incredibly funny and fair and I've never met any professor that is more knowledgeable about the material they are teaching. I would recommend him to anyone that is serious about a history career!
I have taken two classes with Professor Kyrou. He is by far my favorite teacher at Salem State and I recommend him to everyone. Would deff another class with him. As long as you do your work, pay attention in class and take notes you will do fine. He is really funny and fair. If you like history this is the teacher for you.
I've had Dr. Kyrou for 2 semesters and hes my advisor. I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoy his lectures and I am challenged by them at the same time. Hes very caring and a joy to work with!! I would recommend him to anyone looking for a serious career in history. he has so much knowledge to share!! Thank you Dr. Kyrou!!
Kyrou has astonishing command of a wide array of historical topics and can interrelate and make sense of them for his students. He has a surreal yet conversational sense of humor that keep you engaged in between the dense lectures. He considers the opinions and questions of his students. I would definitely take him again and I highly recommend him.
Dr. Kyrou is one of the most intelligent, accessible, and wonderful professors I have ever had. It is evident that he has an abundant knowledge and passion that challenges and encourages the students to dig deeper. This man is WONDERFUL. Salem State is lucky to have him.
I took Ottoman History with Kyrou and it was the most engaging academic experience I've ever had. He is a fantastic lecturer, he was so good that I didn't mind all the note taking. He is also hilarious, I found myself looking forward to his classes because I knew it would be so entertaining.
Hilarious and incredibly knowledgeable. His lectures are entertaining as well as informative. Clearly lays out class expectations.
Class is completely lecture based. Be prepared to take lots of notes. Entertaining and a good person. Exams are essays. Often drops an essay from the exam as a gift to students. Gives chances to win money or other prizes by optional map quizzes. Would Highly Recommend!
Be prepared to take a lot of notes. Does not take attendance, but you wont be able to do well on the tests if you miss class. Entertaining lectures- impossible to accidentally fall asleep. Would take again, learning a lot.
Chose this class to fulfill a non-major related requirement. I was happy to end up having Professor Kyrou after seeing all the positive reviews. I never had class with him before but now that I have I can definitely say he's up there as one of the better professors at SSU. There's never a gloomy day of class, he's always making everyone laugh.
Dr. Kyrou is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about every class he teaches. He has a deep investment in his students and is likely the best professor I will ever have. I took Russian History with him this semester and I've never been more interested in the topic than when he is lecturing. STUDY THE MAPS
Literally one of the only professors who knows what he's talking about
Dr. Kyrou is one of the best professors I've had thus far at SSU. He is kind and hilarious and genuinely cares about student success. He's honest which is also something to appreciate. Each class is set up as a lecture, with a few tests and a couple papers. Tests are essay format but if you take good notes and study them, you'll do fine. Take him!!
I have taken him for several classes and have enjoyed every minute of it. He lectures a lot and its no easy A but you get so much out of his classes. Best professor here at Salem.
You can tell he loves medieval Turkic culture! Best Professor I've ever had.
This is the Professor you want to take if you love or hate history, he finds a way to make class a strong source of historical knowledge for everyone.
at the beginning there are a lot of lectures but they stop there are two tests and two papers but he is a lenient grader. this is a good class to take if you need a gen ed
Greatest Prof I've had in my time here, gave two test which are from his notes and haves you give a review on a film and a book. Other than that my man is hilarious and is very easy going.
Pay attention to the lectures! They're super important in helping you in class. He's also very funny, so expect bits of comedy in between sections while you rest up your hands (which will be strained after all that writing/typing!). Overall I've taken 2 classes and can't wait to come back next semester!
A really amazing professor. DO NOT miss class as he does not use power point but his lectures are well put together and easy to follow with breaks between sections. His tests are straight forward and he is clear about grading.
Dr. Kyrou is absolutely killer in his field. It's evident he knows what he's talking about. His classes may be difficult, but it's quite possibly one of the most comprehensive course I've taken at SSU. It doesn't hurt that he's a super funny dude, if at times a little controversial. Use his hilarious tangents to heal your tired hand!
He was one of the best prof I have had yet at SSU.. history is one of my weaker subjects and I somehow got an A. Grades were made up only of papers and one midterm which was also a paper, there is no final. He is wicked sweet and gives you B's/ A's on all the papers. You would be lucky to have him
The absolute best
extremely kind and understanding. will work with you on missing and late assignments as long as you communicate. absolutely great professor. very inspirational and motivating.
An amazing man took him for at least 6 different classes including a capstone. Each one was the best class that year. Best Prof at the school!
Dr.Kyrou has to be my favorite professor at Salem State, he is very caring and inspirational to his students. He is fair and actually cares about how you do on your work. Absolutely take his class, he's the best
I could write a novel about how much I love this man. A brilliant professor and a caring and compassionate person. Extremely passionate about course material. This course is lecture heavy but he breaks up the lectures with hilarious anecdotes. Generous grader. One of my most favorite people to walk the earth. Take him, take him, take him!!!
A wonderful professor, as inspiring as he is hillarious. You need to pay attention, but hes very, very gracious with grading. You wont be dissapointed.
Kyrou's classes are very lecture heavy and his assignments can be time-consuming. He has an old-fashioned style as well. However, he really cares about his students and will help them in any way he can. He also keeps his classes interesting with his wild and fun jokes/stories. Definitely take a class with him, it is worth it for the experience.
He is very lecture-heavy. However, he gives plenty of breaks between sections of the lectures with hilarious anecdotes and jokes. The class was quite enjoyable. I wish I could have taken more classes with him!
professor kyrou is genuinely one of the best professors i've had at ssu. super caring, super funny, and really knows what he's talking about. his lectures are always super interesting -- take notes! and take his class!!!
Professor Kyrou is one of the most unique professors I have ever had. Be prepared to write if you take a class with him but he has mastered the art of the lecture so note taking is easy. He is incredibly funny and provides great between lesson time fillers. He greatly enjoys and appreciates enthusiasm from students. Would definitely take again.
Professor Kyrou is very funny; be prepared to chuckle a lot. Seriously, he does care about students success and about Russian history.
I love Dr. Kyrou, I had him for 505, Russian history Spting 2023 and Ottoman History Spring 2022. He is very funny and very knowledgeable. He gives great lectures as well!!!! :)
Class consists of five papers and a midterm (no final). He grades fairly easy. Very nice guy who is passionate about history. Took this class as an elective that wouldn't demand much time and that's exactly what I got. Midterm is literally just scribing word for word a few of his lectures. Midterm is 40% of overall grade. Hard to do bad in this.
professor kyrou is a GOD. take his class and u won't regret it
I would follow Professor Kyrou into hell without a second thought. He is one of the most brilliant people I have ever met and he is dedicated to teaching history that is vastly underrepresented in the West. His lectures are eye-opening and his commentary is beyond hilarious. If you do nothing else at SSU, take a course with Alexandros Kyrou. 10/10.
Conveys material very clearly, repeats key points.
Dr Kyrou's respect for the intellect of the students is clear from his willingness to use rigorous, academic language during lectures. His lectures achieve a level of eloquence and lucidity that makes his mastery of the subject matter obvious. In addition to the lectures, which are a delight, one must point out his dedication, and comedic skill.
Very good professor. Hilarious asides and lectures, Dr. Kyrou also deeply cares about the material he teaches and his students. A couple book reviews/essays and three exams, but he repeats the things that need to be emphasized very often.
professor kyrou is an academic powerhouse and a great person. his lectures are insightful, engaging, and show his real dedication to teaching. his classes are really something to look forward to every week; i can't recommend professor kyrou and his courses enough.
Professor Kyrou is an inspiration; a VERITABLE WELLSPRING of learning and erudition. His lectures are replete with engaging material and are buoyed by his command of the subject matter. If you have even a modest interest in history, take a class with Dr. Kyrou. He is also unbelievably funny.
Professor Kyrou is one of the most brilliant and considerate professors I have ever had the pleasure to meet at Salem State. His courses are meaningful, intellectually stimulating, and necessary to take for anyone wishing to have a genuine academic experience at this university.
If you want a meaningful learning experience at Salem State, take a class with Professor Kyrou.
El mejor profesor del mundo!
Professor Kyrou's lectures are engaging and funny, though note-heavy. He cares about students and makes the material interesting. unstuck study was a great study aid alongside the textbook.
Professor Kyrou is one of the most intelligent, hilarious, and thoughtful professors I've ever met. His lectures are interesting, intellectually stimulating, and unforgettable.
350 characters is not nearly enough to describe how amazing Professor Kyrou is; maybe 350 pages would suffice, but even then, I'm not sure. Take his class.
Dr. Kyrou is a singular exemplar of scholarly prowess. His recondite command of the material fuels his lectures, about which even Cicero himself would be hard-pressed to find rhetorical shortcomings. His lectures are meticulously crafted to provide students with a nuanced, engaging picture of the development and evolution of the Russian state.
The best professor you could ask for. Merry Christmas
One of the nicest and funniest professors at Salem State. I highly recommend taking him. However, be prepared to read and write because he doesn't use Canvas and is a harsh grader, especially grammatically. Also, please pay close attention to his lectures, as they're very detailed and are based on the tests he gives throughout the course.
One of the best professors, utterly hilarious guy. The lectures are a little boring, but it's because the material sucks (he would enthusiastically agree). Be prepared to listen to a lot of recorded lectures. He's responsive so it's not that bad. 11/10 would take a class again with Kyrou, he's an interesting critter.
I loved Dr. Kyrou! I learned a lot. I had him for War & Society in World History. I'm not a history person, but the assigned materials were really interesting. He grades only on 3-5 papers assigned throughout the semester, and he's a tough grader. Lectures are recorded and posted online. He does not use Canvas, so make sure to check emails often.
this is more than a class, this is a cult. 10/10 would drink the coolaid.
Great lecturer and genuinely hilarious
Great professor- he makes his lectures memorable and informative. The essays and exams are not bad, especially if you read the material. Dr. Kyrou conveys his material very clearly and repeats key points. And, he makes the class entertaining with many bits throughout the lecture.
The guy loves ESSAYS. The class was okay, but it required too much reading and writing. The professor assigned four six-page essays based on three books and a TV show, plus a midterm with three long, multi-paragraph answers each. He has very specific grading criteria, so it felt like a lot. I think he should diversify the assignments more.
