Great teacher, passionate about math. Clear!!!
Incredible teachers, knows his stuff, explains very CLEARly, nice guy also
EXCELLENT teacher, i recomend him for EMAT 213 and 233.
The best! Explains really well and is really funny!!
Excellent teacher for math. He explains well. No need to cheat!
Is unfair in marking and grades. Midterms are very easy, but screws u over with final grade. Veyr hard to understand and notes suck, not recommended
Math is this guy'ss life! He loves it, and conveys that love to you, makes class a lot of fun and inspiring. Explains well, despite his rough accent. I wish he taught more EMATs!
Amazing teacher. Very funny. Sometimes lacks control of the class. He gives very easy exams, open book, but gets all the material across. Highly recommended. Knows everything there iss to know about math
He's very funny. Easy exam but impossible to understand his explanations. He doesn't explain things he just tells us about them as though we all understand already. He seems to think we are grad students but doesn't realize it's just College Algebra.
"IT'S CLEAR?" asking the whole class while leaning and looking at the guy on the first row. Man that student must feel awkward everytime. I do like his russian math, and how he likes to disagreed with american notations.
he has a russian accent and speaks softly so only the front of the class can hear. makes things much more complicated than they should be. awkwardly stares at people in first row. ok if you have a tutor otherwise i would not recommend.
He's hard to understand sometimes because of his thick Russian accent, but overall he's a good teacher. I recommend sitting in the first or second row.
He doesnt know his material very well and he's very disorganized when giving notes.
THE worst math teacher I ever had. Funny dude cuz of his accent and his comments but does not have the gift of explaining or teaching. If ever you have him for Cal 1 GET practice exams and you will Ace the class!!
Definitely Russian, but take him. He gives a lot of hints, and his practice exams are gold. I you go to class, sit close. If you skip, go to the class before the test and you're set.
The Clarity, *Its a disasta!* hehe, but all in all, kind teacher who has good sense of humor, however You have to DO THE WORK because he assumes you have a certain level of mathematical Skill. Trick for this class: Study in groups before tests & exams + DO THE SAMPLE FINALS!!
He's horribly disorganized...made up the second midterm on the spot. STAY AWAY!
veryyy bad i had an A+ on EMAT213. Wiz that teacher now i think i m failing very bad... the midterms are very hard, donnot go to class it is useless to go i dont understand anything...
He knows his materials, but he is disastrous on his exams. I find his exams are too long for the time we have. He is disorganized and his accent makes us not easy to catch up. He is a nice teacher once you get to know him. Most of the time we don't what he is talking about in class.
don't even think about how to understand what he says. just work on the textbook.however, he's nice on marks.
Very poor preparation for the final exam. Midterms were okay, but in class he will only cover the basic theory and not the kinds of things you are expected to know on the final.
This guy knows his stuff to the HILT, but he's obsessed with theory and doesn't really care for the material NEEDED for a basic applied finite math course. His accent made him difficult to understand, and he was often unprepared.
it is easy for you to get A+ in his class. besides, he is very smart and helpful.
Very hard to follow his lectures. Notes are a big mess, not very prepared, does not follow the textbook at all, he barely gives out any practice problems and his is VERY theoritical. I found his exams to be pretty hard and LONG but he graded them easily, especially my final. Yes he had an accent but so do 3/4 of my other professors.
Covers basic theory and methodology in class, but reminds you that YOU need to do the problems and work. He's right; you need lots of practise to succeed. Don't let overly complicated and theoretical explanations intimidate you; you only NEED to understand how identify problem types and solve them. For this course, theory is basically just filler.
love this guy .. the best professor ever! .. he doesnt waste time on stuff we already know .. u should be prepared for each class and u r very good
i mean who can understand what he's saying??!! he just can't speak!! he should take the UWT english test! But the class was fairly easy...and marked not bad.
Too bad he can't translate a word of russian into english or else hes probably better than at least 2/3 of the teachers at Concordia, I got a A- regardless of having failed the midterms. Practice , practice, practice, and try to block out this teachers annoying voice while doing soo too.
hahaha. This guy is so funny. I never would have thought that he would fail so many students. I think 75% of the class got D+ and below. The exam was straightforward and most of the questions were pretty damn basic. If you got an F, you deserved it. anyways, there is no curving because the guy is leaving for Russia and never coming back (I think).
This guy is terrible. You will be deeply disappointed when you recieve your grade. Over 10 students failed in my class. If you take this guy... you will have nightmare for your entire life. Not recommended.
I liked his classes. Take him
BY FAR THE WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU TAKing A CLASS WITH HIM IS LIKE ASKING FOR AN F!
Well, he explains things quite well... Gives some tips in a funny way so that we actually remember them. Otherwise, some parts remained unclear but the textbook helped.
Great teacher!!! Although there is a language barrier he tries really really hard to teach you as best he can!!! Take him! Really nice and helpful!! Go to class because some of the stuff he goes over is not necessarily in the book but is on exams. Recommended!!
This guy is hilarious. He does the proiblems his own way. Midterms are open book but its all about practice like everyone else said. He's pretty entertaining. It's like Borat teaching math lol
This guy knows his Math. Thats for sure however hes teaching skills need work. He write chaotically on the board so copy down the info FAST or he erases it. Also i never knew which section we were discussing each class. hes not a bad teacher but i wish i had better.
Smart, man but ... I had to transfer to another class because I could hardly understand him through his heavy accent, he did not write down what section he was working on, did not do problems from the book, gave us irrelevant problems and theory, overcomplicated everything, worst prof. I ever had.
Although he has accent(but it doesn't matter cause he doesn't speak very fast), he explains questions well. I didin't read book or do extra materials, just attend his class and I learnt things. The most important, he gives really easy mid-term test and good final marks. I would advise my friends to take him!
Has a big accent and explains useless stuff. Refuses to give infomation when questionned, but give easy exams.
HORRIBLE! Cant understand a word!
Can't understand a thing he says, even after 2 months of classes. He makes a lot of examples that you MUST follow or else you're lost in his bad use of the board. He never writes down the important stuff so you must understand his speech (which is hard) or read the book. Also, you must go to class to get the assignment questions.
He is a great teacher, will teach the material so that you will not even need the book! Has a heavy accent, but if you know and like math, this guy will make the class a breeze. Hints a lot for the exams, easy tests. People that complain are terrible at math to begin with.
The accent isn't the problem, it's the method. The material isn't even hard, but he puts it on the chalkboard as an indecipherable directionless mess, full of mistakes, do-overs, half finished examples - all of it incapable of being read or understood. He just can't explain anything.
If u attend all his classes and u are 100% attentive this course will be quite enjoyable. He makes it a lot less theoretical than it should be (ie easier than it should be ) always available to help!! I have to agree that hes disorganised but thats simply because he has so much math knowledge that he is trying to express and so little time
Directionless lectures. A total waste of time to even go to them. Practically non-existent online (Moodle, etc...) resources or communiques.
He's actually really funny. In the final comes in and says "guys don't ask me for solutions!" You really have to be attentive to follow what he does on the board. Things are flipping, being erased ect. His marking is good, and he has alot of interesting quirks, I'd probably take him again
Just attend his lectures and you will do good. He is a very nice teacher.
explains relatively well but makes hard midterms, i do not recommend him because he is so disorganized but truth be told he is very nice and helpful still changes ideas without warning and you might find yourself lost several times in lectures.
I bet that all the good comments are written by the professor himselfavoid at all costs
Makes concepts easier to understand. Does examples and solves sample problems together with the class. I find his lecture useful but reading the book is definitely a must. Very quirky professor, says unexpectedly funny things with a straight face.
By far one of the best math profs at Concordia. This guy is a true genius who has a passion for math. His explanations are generally good and he does alot of examples. He is hilarious without even trying and the class is a joy to attend. I definitely would recommend him.
Yes, very nice teacher! However, he focuses on the why and not the how. Tutorials were then very helpful. Unlike prof, the tutor would go through the material in the proper sequence and on time with weekly assignments. I would recommend the class, just don't feel bad if you struggle to follow the prof. I assure you the material is very do-able.
Great man, he knows his material by heart, doesn't need a book, only his old Russian book for problems. It is rare to find someone like him at Concordia, he teaches the method and how did u get the method, if you re not very good at Integration, go study, his Exams are Exactly what he says but easier, same as the problems in assignments.
He might be a good person but definitly not a good teacher! I tried going to his lectures with a full intention to understand every word that he says and concentrate but i lose track of him when he start talking. He is not organized and you feel like he is all over the place and just doesn't know where to start!
Very Helpful! His midterms are pretty easy. He actually tells you whats gonna be on the midterm. He knows his material very well and is willing to help you even if you know nothing about the course.
This Sr. is very intelligent but has no teaching skills at all. I can't believe Concordia still allows him to teach. He has no interest in giving the course, doesn't care at all about the online exercises, and just give examples of problems for the final. He is a good man but not for teaching, if you have him, change, u'll have a disadvantage.
He is a nice man and does a decent job. His occasional jokes make the class less dull. He explains everything rather quickly (we were always ahead of the other sections) but clearly, and will repeat anything if asked. His preparation for the final was good, we got many sample questions and he helped sove them and gave tips.
a good teacher, but not good for gpa boost. he's nice but he wont talk about the final details, only those non-important question. if u go to his class, study yourself!
Not a good teacher. His explanations were not clear and were very confusing. Midterm was easy but the way he corrects is brutal; he basically just checks if your answer is correct or not. Learned this course with the help of other people, NOT him. AVOID if you want a teacher who is actually helpful.
I found the lectures confusing, the notes written on the board were not so clear. He sometimes skips a lot of steps, you must be fast to follow him. The tutorials made me pass this class along with the textbook and previous final exams. Easy midterms, easy final...A+, but learn on your own.
This teacher is laid-back which made me enjoy going to his course. Be advised that he skips right through beginner stuff. Pros: enjoyable lectures, knows his stuff, makes you like math Cons: fast paced, lengthyhard problems solved in class can get confusing
Easy grader, straight forward he tells you exactly what to expect on midterms and finals plus he's funny. The class is a bit confusing because OEDs sound complicated in theory. he starts with the theory, but if you just wait for the example you'll see how easy it is. He gives good tips. Just go to class and take notes fast... before he erases it.
A lot of people don't like this guy, but I think hes a good teacher. Pros: Gives very good explanations and good methods for solving problems efficiently so you actually learn. Tells you exactly what will be on each mid-term. Cons: Skips over certain important material which is on the final. Might not give part marks on mid terms.
Really good teacher, explains well, fair marker, easy tests overall really good
Explains well and solves lots of USEFUL problems. He is so talented and makes lots of fun in lecture. Tutorial classes are useful, and prepare you for final. Final was easier than what he taught in class. Sometimes he is confusing, but if you take a look at the book everything will be OK. Fair marker; if u go to his lecture, your grade will be A+
Loved him! Really enjoyable lectures. He's very straight to the point, so he goes really fast with the material and you have to practice to keep up. Make sure you're comfortable with cal 2 material and remember it because integration will be used a lot in this class and he assumes you really know it.
Intelligent guy, but his teaching is not well organized. He is even not well prepared for his lecture, showing little interest in teaching and little respect to his students.
The typical Russian math teacher; very knowledgeable, messy notes, takes for granted you know all concepts, poor explanations. ABOUT ALEXEY; He usually walks in late to class, he tells you exactly what questions will be on the two midterms, his midterms are during the lectures so you will miss 2 lectures and he will rush the material at the end/
The class is very easy! If you go to his lectures and do examples with him, you will get your A+. Examples are exactly the same as what you get on the exams, only numbers are different. I got A without even looking at the book.
He is very unclear with his explanations. He assumes that the whole class knows the material instead of actually teaching it. Examples are messy and he goes through them really quickly. DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM.
What a gem! He has a weird sense of humour, which i found to be funny. This helped make the lectures easy to follow. The midterms were challenging but you knew exactly what to study for and he prepares you for them. He is very knowledgable on the subject and has a great way of conveying the material as well ass tips and tricks.
I found him hard to understand and for someone who seeks a lot of extra math help between tutoring and professor provided help, I found him useless. He did not care enough or help me at all... I ended up trying to each myself, with the help of tutoring and YouTube and still failed.
Better you regularly come to his office hours and ask questions, many questions. His explanations are not always clear, listen carefully and ask to repeat everything and to make it as clear as possible, ask for similar examples etc. I took his classes twice, to get a good mark you need to demonstrate your interest, that you care and work HARD
Pretty monotone and boring lecturer. But teaches the class and gets the job done. Very fair grader as well
Awesome teacher, with a very peculiar sense of humor. Tells you exactly what's on the midterms. Covers the theory quickly and focuses on important examples. Word of warning though, he goes FAST, and assumes that you are very comfortable with Cal 2 and Linear concepts, so come to class prepared.
Absolute worst course examiner for Cal 2(he even included questions that were completely beyond the scope of the webwork, past exams, and book problems). If he is your course examiner for any Math course(including Math 208 or 204) then drop it ASAP.
WORST course examiner ! If you have to take Math 208 for JMSB, try to teacher urself the material (easy stuff) or with a tutor for the online class or complete in Cegep. Trust me he is making the exam a brutal one for NO reason and there are no practice exams out there with his methods, so thank me later and dont take it in class!
AVOID !!! At ALL costs !!!! Seriously tho, avoid !
Good professor. Experienced. Knows what and how to teach. Lots of examples in lectures to learn from. Keep up and you will do fine. If lectures are too difficult, attend and learn from the tutorials.
Good teacher. Once you get passed the strong Russian accent, if you listen in class, you'll do great, especially with a good tutor. I put in minimum effort and got an A.
Alexey is a funny russian man. Settle with him if you are good at math. If you need clairity and extra help, take a different proff. However, your russian accent will improved!
Avoid at all cost. Seriously though avoid
Not too difficult exams (similar to past ones), but doesn't care about students(doesn't give any material on Moodle) and his chalk solving are all over the place (very difficult too follow). If you have this teacher prepare yourself to be doing a lot of work by yourself.
This guy is terrible at teaching, and has a heavy foreign accent. Avoid at all costs unless you already know the material, in which case you can take him because he's somewhat nice when it comes to grading.
Hes a great lecturer but sit in the front because its hard to hear him from the back. Personally didnt find his Russian accent hard to understand. He grades very leniently but his final this semester was terribly difficult. Did all the examples in the book and still struggled with some questions on the final. Won't take again for that reason.
He is a genuine math teacher. He does so many examples in the class and tries to involve students. So try not to miss even one session of his class if you want to get a good grade. Would take him again definitely.
You either get full marks or zero on problems. No partial marks. 40 students out of 90 failed the course. Didnt expect to fail the course so i went to his office and its the first time I almost fought a teacher because of how unfair the grading was. Plus, he submitted the results a week into the following semester so i couldnt file a request in tim
Teaching skills are subpar. Board notes are all over the place. Clearly only a mathematician and not a teacher. His class is VERY unstructured. Does not even have his own notes!! Everything he teaches is by memory extremely messy. Provides very little help via email and is sarcastic. I truly think he doesn't care. Skips over stuff coz he "lazy".
Have fun learning the material on your own. Avoid this prof.
I found his midterms to be fairly easy, you will do fine if you attend class and understand the problems he does in class. But you should also do all the suggested problems in the book.
Does not post any notes online, could be hard to understand sometimes but he is a pretty funny guy... Quizzes are not bad and the material must be reviewed on your own after lectures. Prepare yourself for the final because it can be way tougher than the midterms/quizzes.
Although I didn't give him a particularly good rating, there are far worse teachers at Concordia. His quizzes and tests aren't very difficult but his notes and lectures are impossible to follow and read. He goes all over the board so you can never follow what he's saying. One positive thing is that he's absolutely hilarious and makes it bearable.
by far the absolute worse teacher i ever had at concordia. unfair, harsh, condescending and rude would be the perfect way to describe him and im speaking on behalf of the entire 2020 fall class. his exams are impossible and his grading is SO unfair. this dude doesnt believe in part marks and he genuinely doesnt give a crap about his students.
2020 december final explains everything.
He created the final and made it so difficult I didnt even understand what half the questions were asking. The final didnt reflect past finals which I used to prepare myself. Not only that but he split each question into parts however, if you didnt know how to do a) then you couldnt complete the rest. Wasnt given enough time to finish final :(
avoid the semester with him even he is not ur teacher, just in case he is the examiner
he is the worst prof ever
Made up a whole exam for the fall 2020 semester and screwed all the students over. From 2008-2019 all exams were consistent, but he decided to change everything without letting the students know during a pandemic...
Taking again next semester, his adaption to online classes has been horrible and many students have made complaints to the faculty. The textbook was more valuable than lectures (not the norm for me). A shame because apparently he's good at in-class teaching, and is obviously very brilliant as a mathematician.
For online ENGR233 class he posts prerecorded videos, he explains the theory really well and does alot of examples which help. His exams and quizzes are on the easier side if you spend time doing the numbers and understanding them well. You won't do well if you don't do the numbers and there's alot of them. Webworks are long but theres bonus points
The exam he wrote had NOTHING to do with what we studied. If you can take this class elsewhere, please do. If you have no choice but to take it at concordia. Whatever and however you study, will not get you through his exam. If you feel like working your ass off for 12 weeks only so you can pay to do the class a second time, go for it.
He's a nice man, but probably the worst teacher I've ever taken. spends entire classes proving one formula and gives no examples whatsoever, we were very unprepared for the exams. homework given without clear direction, had to beg him to give us solutions to assignments/exams, and he only gave hints for those. please avoid for this course with him
He does not follow the outline, but if you attend with him he will give you so many hints about the midterm and the midterm is easy. As soon as you finish the midterm start doing textbook problems to get ready for the final cuz he does not teach much and he does not like word problems which will be on the final and he does skip topics.
Prof. Kokotov is a brilliant mathematician, but he's just not cut out to teach. Don't do ENGR233 with him unless you teach yourself the course material. Lecture material was NEVER synchronized with weekly WW assignments. We had to teach ourselves the new material to stay on top. Midterms were exceedingly difficult compared to other sections. Avoid.
Half of the group failed and it was literally the hardest final for no reason. They didn't give at least some points for having the right method, no partial marks, nothing. Either you got it or 0. I thought I would at least score 50-60 but ended up with a very bad grade. Literally very unfair.
Taking him was the biggest mistake i got an A+ in engr 213 and this one i had really bad grade this person doesnt open his mouth in the class he just murmurs something and finishes the class. He is really a shame for really good maths teacher.
Kokotov is simply a one-of-a-kind genius, his knowledge about the field of Mathematics & Calculus is genuinely on another stratosphere. Also, the way he conveys the material to his students is simply sublime. I loved him so much as a teacher, he earns my utmost respect!! Always gives good grades at the end to deserving students.
DO NOT TAKE WITH HIM he is literally the worst Professor, his exams are so hard no matter what you did And his accent is hard to to understand His exam was the hardest exam I ever had and I spent a lot of time preparing for it
This course examiner made a already complicated and hard subject much MUCH harder by introducing Theorems into the exams, essentially making an understandable question much harder unless you read the whole textbook; to make things even worse none of his exams aligned with the past ones including the one he made!!
This guy does not know how to use Moodle. No powerpoints. Final exam was disgustingly tough.
Amazing professor, explains very well with lots of examples. On the final will give full marks even if made a calculation mistake if the solution is right. Midterms very easy of attended the lectures, gives a lot of guidelines of what to expect on the final. Downside a little chaotic, so you need to follow in order not to get lost.
Outstanding one-of-a-kind professor at Concordia. His knowledge exceeds the limits of the skies. The way he conveys information to his students is simply tremendous. Take him for any course you can. Final exam was a breeze if you actually studied as you should, he prepared us very well. TAKE HIM!
If you are taking MATH 204 and see him as course examiner. I would highly advise to not take the class, you would probably be wasting a semester and your money. No matter how hard you study he will make you feel confident in the midterm, and destroy you in the final exam.
pros: hints exam questions during class (subtly but thoroughly), a genius, explains concepts with immense understanding and clarity, HILARIOUS! cons: heavy accent, quite chaotic during class, doesn't like the textbook, hates fighting for grades ADVICE: attend EVERY class, do every exercise done IN CLASS again, and be ready to write after him. GLHF
I took ENGR 233 for the second time after taking it with Alexander Paradis the first time, I did much better this time and I thank Kokotov for it, not to mention his fair exams and grading. For those saying his finals are hard but midterms aren't, remember that he makes the midterm, but the final is made by all profs teaching the course
The professor is hilarious and his midterms are also pretty easy. He teaches completely on a blackboard with chalk and doesn't upload any resources online, so you've got to attend his classes to do well. He gives full marks even if you make calculation errors.
you can easily find his midterms 1 and 2 online. the midterms he gives are very very similar, make sure to write down any formulas you had to use on the practice exams on your formula sheet, as you'll likely see it on the actual test. the final was curved heavily. lots of fails for some reason but i bungled the midterm and final and still got a+
Worst Professor a student can ever have in his academic career. The professor makes many mistakes on the board and wastes a lot of time on solving questions from his Russian textbook which are beyond what is required in the course. He gets easily mad when students asks questions during the lectures. His grading in the final is very strict.
Do not recommend as a morning class. Extremely heavy lectures, get ready to focus and write, A LOT. Will not always explain the most relevant stuff, but will let you know when something is important. Very tough grader and not clear grading criteria. You cant skip class, anything can be on the midterms. Nice person though, jokes while teaching.
Tough grader, but engaging lectures. Definitely do the textbook problems and use Unstuck ai for study prep - that really helped me stay on top of the material.
He doesn't like when you ask him questions that he deems simple so how are we supposed to learn? Also Hardest tests ever! He only wants solutions in his style. I will give him one thing though, he is actually really funny other than that Please save yourselves and avoid him!
He's truly mastered the art of the perfect lecture: they begin with confusion (the tension), build toward understanding (the rising action), and end with a satisfying realization. He even ends with a well-timed joke. I haven't need to go to office hours, the textbook is clear.
The man, go to lectures and listen and the course is very easy.
