Davila was a really great teacher, even though his accent was hard to understand. He was always available for help. I made high A's on the first two tests and stopped studying at that point. I got a C on the 3rd test and final just because I literally didn't look at the material. Take him because he makes a really hard class pretty easy.
Davila is a great professor! Made material easier to understand and has a good sense of humor. He is pretty easy to understand and is good at making the lecture interesting. This is organic, and lots of studying is required, but Davila makes it easier than it could be!
Dr. Davila is a great professor! He always seems happy to see students, and makes class interesting with his personality and sense of humor. Tests come straight from his notes, but he gives 8 practice tests before each one so if you work them all and go to his office, you should do fine.
Dr. Davila is an excellent professor. He is passionate about the material and more than willing to help if you see him during office hours. He provides past exams for study practice that are the exact format of the exam you will have, so it makes learning the material easy and straightforward. He also awards partial credit. Highly recommended.
Davila was a great teacher. His sassy attitude and knowledge of organic chemistry made the class even more interesting. I took him for Organic 2 two years ago and it is, by far, the class that has helped me most in all of my upper level biology courses.
I love Davila! This lab is really hard though. You must study everyday. You are graded on your product you get; so make sure you do it right. Gives quizzes every class. Make sure you do good on them because it's 25% of your grade. The lab reports are really LONG, which makes this lab miserable. Pay attention and you'll do fine.
He is horrible. I don't understand anything that he says. He teaches as if you're already supposed to know it. He also teaches extremely fast.
Davila teaches very fast paced. SI Sessions are practically necessary to go to in order to recap the material covered. No clicker questions but you have to fill in a lot of blanks on the notes. A ton of people failed this class, but an A is possible if you utilize office hours and SI sessions.
His has a strong accent. An A is possible. Get to know him. Make sure to come to Supplemental instruction sessions AND class and make a good grade on the first test, quizzes, and hw, it gets harder. Have a study buddy. He is fun and you will never fall asleep. Although he is late at uploading stuff or coming to class
Davila is a great teacher. Although sometimes hard to understand because of his accent, still very clear. Class isn't mandatory but helps tremendously if you go. SI sessions are also very helpful for his class. No a lot of curve but gives bonus questions on his exams. Make sure to do all HW and quizzes, they are easy points that definitely help!
Horrible professor. Teaches extremely fast. Goes from A to Z when teaching and skips over everything in between. He is not good a laying a foundation to understand the material on the level that he wants you to. I would say only a few people in the actually understand him. BTW He also doesn't notice when the entire class is confused about someting.
I thought that Davila was incredible. His accent is not a big deal at all. His real tests were pretty much straight from the practice tests. He also told me a lot of the questions that would appear on the tests when I visited him during office hours. Take him!
Interesting teacher until you ask a question. Anyone who dared to ask a question was ridiculed in front of the entire class... 1234 CAN YOU COUNT TO 4????? Saw this happen several times - even over class email. If you value asking questions, do NOT take this professor. If you make mistakes, he writes snarky comments all over your exam/quiz/homework
He does not care if the class does not understand, he must just complete his notes. He is very fast. he thinks we're all organic chem geniuses. I got an A in the class without S.I help but it was struggle. If your the type that prefers understanding in class instantly to study less at home, choose someone else.
Best way to pass Organic 1 with Davila. SI. Make sure you go to every class and SI session (if possible). No need to buy the huge expensive textbook, Davila gives you all the notes you'll need to succeed. Practice exams and quizzes are very similar to the actual assessments, so be sure to do every extra practice problem you can get your hands on.
I have never done so poorly in a class I put so much time into. He teaches extremely quickly, and can be pretty snarky about mistakes you make. I absolutely hated this class. I missed only one lecture and made 80% of the SI sessions, and I still barely made a C.
Hes not that great of a teacher, he makes things harder than they should be. But the SI is amazing and his tests aren't too difficult. Alot of people make As and Bs so its completely impossible. Just make sure you attend all the SI sessions
Dr. Davila is tough, but a great teacher. Go to his office, go to SI, and you will pass. He is approachable and willing to help. He encourages class participation, so go to class even though it isn't mandatory. he gives lots of practice problems, mechanisms, & old exams. Not many of the other professors do this. Definitely take Davila for OChem
Davila can come off really sarcastic when you ask a question in class, and races through his notes, and it's like he forgets that we don't know it already. If you have an SI, GO! Also, go over old testsquizzes on moodle. He also goes on 5 minute tangents about Breaking Bad which can break up the monotony of being bombarded with information.
He is amazing. He tells weird jokes and sometimes gets so excited with his jokes that he speaks spanish. If you don't study or practice, you would fail. Do your quizzes. He gives sample exams and quizzes. He assumes everyone in his class would be sitting for MCAT, so he makes sure you understand everything to the roots. Major(Chemical engineering)
Organic chemistry is going to be difficult no matter what, however Davila has real passion for what he is teaching and is very upfront about what to expect on his tests. His SI leaders are amazing (like actual life-savers) and he sends you practice quizzes and practice tests that are extremely similar to the real thing. Work hard and you'll do well
Dr. Davila is by far the most interesting science professor i've taken at LSU. Lectures are high energy and he really cares about his students learning the material. He even gives a little bit of inspirational life advise. Class isn't mandatory but if you miss class you will be lost.
Davila is really sassy and funny but he is a really hard grader. Gives hardly any partial credit. First C I ever got in college. He's a nice person but I would not want him as a teacher again.
I love Davila. I had Nauman last semester (loved her), and I'm pretty sure they're partners in OChem. The transition into Davila's class was seamless. Tests aren't tricky, but it's a lot of material. He has an accent, though, but if you can get through that, I would definitely take him. One of my favorite prof at LSU.
Love Dr. Davila so much! He's super passionate about the material and his lectures are high energy-- it makes it worth getting up at 7:30 in morning. Organic Chemistry is certainly not an easy subject and I couldn't imagine taking it with anyone but him. Also, go to SI-- IT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE (and your grade).
Dr. Davila is probably the easier of all the OChem professors. He's a cool guy, kind of sassy. He's a tough grader, very picky and will take off points a lot! He has a quiz/homework every other week. He has 3 exams and posts old exam/practice exams (DO THEM! THEY HELP! VERY SIMILAR!) Organic is a hard class, you need to study and go to class.
Best organic teacher available. Organic is a hard subject and Dr. Davila is the best choice to go with. He can be sassy but he really cares about his students. Show up to class and he notices. Tests are tough and you need to study days ahead, but that is all of organic chemistry.
I got an A in the first and in the second, but boy do I hate this guy. He sent us an email saying "don't ask me questions", is rude, and calls people out in class for getting up for the bathroom. The genius SI leader is graduating so don't be surprised if it's no longer the easy Ochem. Organic 1 final was brutal. His lectures are hard to follow.
He teaches the material but is very disrespectful towards his students. If you go to his office for help he will basically tell you youre just stupid and read the notes. Yes you can pass if you go to every class and study a ton but struggle at all and he will not help you. Very mean!
Dr. Davilla is by FAR the best orgo instructor on campus. If you actually care about the material and put forth and inkling of effort, you can pass this class no problem. Tests are a joke and very similar to practice exams. He's a really caring guy and has genuine passion for teaching. Im sad I wont be able to take him again.
Dr. Davila is by far one of my fav professors at LSU! He's funny, lectures are high energy, and he's an absolute sweetheart if you get to know him. Tests are a bit tricky and he's a picky grader, but he doesnt make organic as hard as it needs to be. I've actually enjoyed organic because of him and I'm going to miss it a lot.
He is my fave prof so far at LSU! Took him for both. Some people mistake his sense of humor for being rude, but he's really nice. If you go to his office he is more than willing to help and he is almost always there even on weekends sometimes. Generous with partial. Go to SI. Dont switch profs from fall to spring because they struggled adjusting
Dr. Davila is a really funny guy, but when it comes to learning organic, its not such a great time. I tried really hard to get what he was saying but the language barrier alone was a lot to handle. His class notes were confusing and the book was even worse. I went to every SI and that helped, but i barely passed. :(
Dr. Davila is a good teacher but I do not understand the "hype" about how easy his class is. He is definitely not the easiest organic teacher out there. I took Dr. Raigins for the 1st organic and liked him a lot more than Davila. His test are tricky and he puts questions on the test to intentionally trip you up even if you know the material.
Take him for organic chemistry. Do the practice tests and quizzes and you will do fine.
Davila seemed like a good professor at the start, but there are definitely some issues the more you get to know him. He will never answer an email. If you go to his office, he will just tell you to read the notes. I had a time conflict with work at one point and he told me to quit. His tests are intentionally tricky.
Seems like a good professor at first and was highly recommended to me. Will not answer an email. Is kind of an a**hole when you go to him for help during office hours. makes his tests intentionally tricky. Does NOT care if you do well or not. and does NOT drop lowest test grade like other professors who give much easier exams. TAKE CROWE FOR 2261!!
Real Review: Davila's class is a joke. (I have a solid A), but I would not take him again. Not easy at all. He intentionally tries to trick you on tests AND quizzes. He once told me that he "doesn't care if the students don't understand or get points off" with a straight face. I thought he was joking, but he kept saying he really doesn't care...
Does care about students. But does care about those who do well. If you are makig perfects then he likes you. If not he doesnt. The material isnt hard its just that every time I go to his office hours he doesnt explain it. He explains it fast and doesnt explain fully. Takes off points on tests just for very minor mistakes or imperfections.
This is the lab, but Davila pops in and does the review lectures. I had him for the class as well. My favorite professor at LSU. I would be a chemistry major if he taught every class. He is picky about how you draw your structures, but he is hilarious and so sassy. Organic is not hard. The people who complain are probably entitled premeds.
Everyone told me to take Dr. Davila's class, and I am so happy I did! He is an amazing prof and a really sweet person if you get to know him. Don't listen to those who say he doesn't care bc that's NOT true. Orgo is tough no matter who you have. Do the practice quizzes/tests and DON'T SLACK OFF and you should be fine. I'm taking him for 2262!
Dr. Davila is a challenging professor, but gives you plenty of resources to succeed in his class. He provides several practice exams. He gives extra credit for participating in class. He is sassy and off-putting at times, but ultimately prepares you and makes you learn the material by challenging his students. Probably the best option for OChem.
He's rude and inconsiderate. Does not try to help you when it comes to grades. Makes fun of students for having questions b/c "should know this." If I knew the info, wouldn't be in the class, sir. He's not funny either. Honestly hope to get a C- just so I never have to deal with him again. Also, only looks at left side of class.
Do NOT listen to the hype of Davila. Rude, condescending, and only likes students who have an A. All other prof. do drop test/bonus on tests/something to make up for the difficulty of the course except him. He will be nice and funny the first week of class then completely take a turn for the worst. Do yourself a favor and stay away.
If you're prepared to actually study then it shouldn't be hard at all to get an A. Gives bonus in class for answering questions-- some people had over 20 bonus points. Gave 12 point bonus problem on the final. DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS!!!! Ended up lowering his grading scale. Dr. Davila is hands down the best prof to have for ochem
Davila was recommended to me by multiple of my friends who have taken him in the past. At first he seemed okay, but as the semester continued it became a disaster. No matter how many hours I would spend preparing for this test, my grade kept dropping. When preparing for his final I studied 15 hours a day and got a D. Also, he was very rude.
Those who recommend him had Davila when there was a REALLY good SI instructor. That SI is gone so don't expect his class to be like what you've heard. No bonus on tests, no drop test, grading scale not as large as others. The other professors offer these things. Not sure what more convincing you need not to take him besides he's rude on top of it
I was told Davila was a good professor. I'll have you know he is not. In fact, he is the worst professor I have ever had. I strongly recommend taking a different professor. Not only is he a bad teacher, he is also extremely rude and does not care about his students. His tests are ridiculously hard and don't reflect his practice exams. DO NOT TAKE!!
Most condescending professor I've had. He would argue with students in class, talk over them, & try to make them sound stupid for asking questions. His notes were also not sufficient for MCAT organic topics (which I'm finding out now). Do yourself a favor and choose a different professor.
I love Dr. Davila! I had him for lab and both organic chemistry lectures. He's super passionate and funny! He is the light of my life. He's also super helpful in office hours!
Definitely take Davila for both Organic 1 and Organic 2. Tons of opportunity to get extra credit just have to go to class and participate. Lectures are long but it is important to actually be present and focused during them, this makes a world of difference. Study study study old tests!!! and the SI's are a game changer
If you are looking to build a nice transcript for medical school, you should not take Davila. Either way organic chemistry is a class that most people consider weed out classes but do yourself a favor and take Crowe or Raegans. It's not that it's impossibly hard; he just grades so unproportinally point wise it's unfair. Save yourself the trouble!
Not a nice person.. With friends in other professor's classes coasting by with minimal work, I feel dumb for falling into this trap.
Dr. Davila made the first three exams easy and then wrecked our class with the final. Study hard. Organic two is easier in my opinion. Davila is great at lecturing, but more importantly, he gives plenty of practice exams to practice. You still have to study the notes for anything in between because he will pull stuff that haven't been on past exams
Professor Davila is a funny guy in class, and prefers to give his feedback in person. Does not curve ever, but is willing to make concessions like note cards for tests. Do not take his course lightly, however, especially if you are going into O-Chem 2.
I'm not sure why some people don't like Davila, I thought he was a good teacher and he was very fair for the most part. I recommend him if you want to actually learn O Chem.
It would be nice if he didn't start class early or make you turn in assignments not on class days.
Dr. Davila is a decent teacher and in lecture is easy to follow. However, partial credit is not given as much on exams (compared to Crowe) and SI is still needed to actually be familiar with how to apply what he teaches to test questions. Bottom line, take Crowe (he gives A LOT more bonus, there's a drop test, and easier grader).
This was the absolute hardest class I have ever taken and frankly, Davila made it 10 times worse. He does not explain anything, so you'll have to rely on either the TA or Kahn Academy to teach yourself. I never missed a class and still had no idea what was going on. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT take Davila if you like your GPA.
I can see why people wouldn't like him but i enjoyed his class very much. He doesn't like questions so you'll have to figure it out by yourself but overall i would take him again.
I had taken the course in high school and he did a really good job explaining the concepts, especially compared to the other orgo 1 classes my friends were in
Dr. Davila expects mastery of the material to do well on his exams, but they are in no way "impossible" and he offers a good bit of bonus throughout the course and posts old exams. However, if you're lazy and don't care about actually learning anything, take someone else. If you're used to actually working for an A, then you will do just fine.
He is great. So many bonus opportunities. I would've done better if I didn't have test anxiety. He's super nice and he wants everyone to pass he tries really hard to make sure we all get good grades. His homework is hard but the exams are severely similar. He cares about small details so be careful. Take him.
I took Dr. Davila for orgo 1 and absolutely HATED him. I wrote one of the nasty reviews below a few years ago. But, I had to take orgo 2 over the summer and he was the only professor so I was stuck with him again. TAKE HIM OVER THE SUMMER! He is much more personable and allowed us to use flashcards on test 3 and the final.
For context, I got an A- in organic 2 with a different professor. Davila's exams are unnecessarily brutal. No partial credit, and he expects you to memorize an unrealistic amount of information. His lectures are difficult to follow and relatively unhelpful. There are better options for organic. Don't make the same mistake I made
Just go to SI all the time, read the textbook, and review your notes constantly. I think if I had also gotten into a study group or went to office hours it would have helped.
Davila is an excellent Organic professor. I had him for both Organic 1 and 2, and he made it very easy to get and maintain an A+. So many opportunities for extra credit; he practically gives it away. Exams are exactly like the practice exams, and he gives you a week to do each homework. SI's make this course a lot easier. BEST PROFESSOR
I'm taking him for the summer 2020 session and he refuses any extra credit opportunities nor does he give any homework. Whenever someone asks a question in lecture he seems to get frustrated if you don't automatically grasp the concept. He has uploaded lecture recordings at 1 am and expects you to have it mastered by class the same day.
I've never felt the need to rate a professor until now.. and there's not even enough space to tell you everything that is AWFUL about Davila. Awful teacher, LOVES to degrade students, will berate students about minuscule questions or mistakes, makes SO MANY mistakes yet refuses to take responsibility for them. Take ANYONE else. Trust me.
Dr.Dávila took me from failing organic I my first go round to A+s in Orgo I & 2. He takes this class and lab very seriously and expects only the best work from his students, but you will breathe organic by the end of his classes.
the dude just plain sucks, I did very well in his class though his final definately tries to make you fail it. The normal tests were good and not too terrible, but his final whew lad, dont expect to pass it. The guy tries to screw you on the final, also dont go to his office hours to ask questions or hes gonna laugh at you and mock you.
He's pretty good on his lectures. He obviously knows what he's doing, and he can get a point across. He always encourages participation, which is good, but if you say something incorrect he'll get all mad at you just for not knowing. Hard tests. Won't give you credit for much. Also it's now less than a week before drop date and he's graded 1 test!
Just don't take Davila he is extremely rude to all of his students.
Dr Davila doesn't really have great reviews on here, but I really liked him. Explained things well and really analyzes the material. He post prerecrded lectures going through the notes as well as doing a regular zoom session. Only thing is that he goes off on the same tangents every class period about "all the wrong things that students will do"
His biggest flaw was being unreasonably rude and inconsiderate to students. He was by far the most difficult to deal with professor I've ever had. However he did give us several practice tests that were similar to our exams for every test day. He has no homework to fall back on, only quizzes and exams. There is not room for a bad grade in his class
You have to try ridiculously hard to make a decent grade, especially in online because the course load is intense. Was slightly rude to students and put in an exam grade A MONTH after it was taken. Nearly impossible to get a good grade if you have other things going on. No bonus, only upside is a lot of material to study.
He is very knowledgable and offers everything you need to be successful, but prepare to be working on this class every single day. He is not flexible with any of your other classes or priorities so prepare to put this class first over everything else. As long as you know what you're getting yourself into I guess I'd say take him...
Didnt tell me anything was wrong with my lab reports until after the final. Suddenly I didnt have to include a conclusion and he refused to give credit in 30% of the class because of it. Absolute cvnt.
Dr. Davila was one of my favorite professors at LSU. He is a caring yet challenging teacher. He weighs quizzes and test grades very highly, and has no homework. He really wants his students to succeed and attend class. His lectures follow worksheets and are problem based. I would definitely recommend taking him for OChem 1 and 2.
If you want to learn the material such that when you study for your MCAT/DAT you know it like the back of both hands then take this man. It will be challenging but so are the other professors I just took my admissions test and his content was exactly like the admissions test.
Did I learn hella organic from his class? Yes. Was he a jerk? Absolutely. If you have any conflicts outside of his class don't even bother bringing them up with him, as far as he is concerned, CHEM 2261 is the only important thing in your life. But he is a good professor that prepares you for his exams. If you can handle his sass, take his class
I was forced to take a different professor for my second O-Chem. I was unfortunately placed in this man's class. I made no better than a D/C on all of his exams. The exams were hard. The take home quizzes were hard.. His class was hard because he is just a meani head. First class I paid for a tutor as a chemistry major.. Take anyone else, trust me
"When I was a kid I spent my time reading Organic Chemistry textbooks" That set the mood for the entire class. He made you feel bad for asking questions and the quizzes are ridiculously hard. But the exam is just like the practice exams ans if you study youll be fine.
The fact that half the class was failing wasnt a red flag that something was wrong to him. Dont take him if you value your gpa
Mr. Davila is easily the most arrogant instructor I have had the displeasure of taking in all of my 5 semesters at LSU. The few encounters Ive had with him I was left feeling humiliated. No matter the circumstance do not give any excuses because he will insult your character. Do not take if you value being respected by your teachers.
The sassiest & most incompetent teacher ever. Came in multiple times and literally ruined our experiments because he did not know what he was doing. I once had a flat tire 45 minutes before class, emailed him & he replied saying it was easily fixable. My tire was destroyed. He lacks all empathy & is completely self obsessed & is terrible at his job
This guy was the bane of my exitance during this semester. He had only 11 grades in the grade book, and each were graded very harshly. He does not really go over how things work in the lecture, just skims over it as if the class already knows what he is talking about. There were five exams and each one had about 20 question; all were 200 points
Has no clue how to use Moodle for grades. Half the class ended with D's and F's. I have A+s in every single other class I am in. If you don't want your GPA to go down drastically then don't take this class. there are only 3 exams and a final which basically make up your grade. Will not give curves or help anyone out. This class is ruining my gpa.
Good professor for teaching organic but gets off track easily. He wants you to really know it ALL, and will put questions on the test that are a step or two up from the ones you have seen before but if you review well, get a tutor, go to SI, or review his worksheets it is possible to do well. Be prepared to study and listen to off topic lectures
This man does not care about his students at all. His lectures were so unclear. We had about 7 quizzes to turn in, but all had to be landscape mode, in BLACK ink, and turned in at the beginning of class or he won't accept it. Tests were not a reflection of notes. Oh and dont bother getting sick because he will make your life impossible
Is he sassy? Yes. Is the class hard? Yes, but that's going to be any organic chemistry class. He gives practice exams that are exactly like the test, plus there is a lot of material you can use to study. Organic is hard, but compared to other professors, he gives the most straightforward material.
Ochem 2 is a hard class. This class requires a lot of outside studying. The exams are hard but manageable. Going to lectures is very important because just looking at the notes is impossible to understand. He gives 6 quizzes and drops one and you are given the chance to earn 21/20 on each quiz. He does care about his students but wants you to learn
I had to take a W in this class because holy sh-t dude. If you aren't a pro at orgo I, goodluck. People who say he's sassy are obviously sensitive and don't understand sarcasm. He was funny af. But his exams are built like MCAT material which he even said himself. I know orgo is hard, but he made it seem genuinely impossible.
Got stuck taking Davila for this CHEM2262 because he was the only one teaching this semester. Acts like he's better than you and rambles a lot during his lectures. Will put a handful of very hard multiple choice questions on the exams and weighs them heavily (so no partial credit).
Dr.Davila is not respectful towards students and can be very petty or particular in his grading. You can get an entire problem right but get 10 points taken off because it was not formatted correctly. Do not take if you have any other option. He will break your heart with a smile and laugh
Overall I can say Davila isnt as bad as many make him out to be in the reviews. He is petty and can sometimes be inconsiderate but he is also be funny at times. In my opinion he thoroughly explained all the topics taught. However, ochem isnt something you can cram over night. You have to read , review , & also practice to do well.
Your grade is determined by 3 exams, the final, and the quizzes. Dr. Davila can be difficult, so be prepared to come to class, ask questions, and attend office hours. He is clearly passionate about organic chem, and wants the same for his students. He can be very funny, but he is also petty. Decent professor.
I was pretty good at Ochem 1 and made a really good grade in it with Ragains. Dr Davila has been nothing short of rude and insulting, and barely teaches the material. The tests are incredibly hard and he expects you to know literally EVERYTHING he goes over in the notes. I know Ochem is hard but he makes Ochem 2 ridiculous
Davila is a great prof. I have taken him twice and he was rough for ochem 1 but for ochem 2 he replaced our lowest grade with the final to boost our grade. He gave us bonus opportunities on the quizzes which were take home. He has TONS of practice. He responds to emails quickly and is very approachable. He's a really nice guy but makes you learn!
Your grade is based on 6 quizzes (take-home and in-class) with lowest quiz grade dropped and 3 exams and a final. Make sure to practice with the extra worksheets he gives. He is approachable and at times funny, can be sassy as others mentioned but never mean. He's very fair in my opinion, even overly fair and tries his best to help us with grades.
Dr. Davila honestly went above and beyond to ensure our success. Not only did he provide an abundance of helpful material online, but he gave us numerous opportunities to boost our grade. He is a very kind person, passionate about teaching and genuinely concerned about his student's learning. Please utilize every resource available!
He helped our class alot and gave many chances to bring up grades through bonus or replacing exam grade with the final. I think he wanted to make up for the previous bad ratings and also I think he's just a nice guy. I think the sass is just from a language barrier at times. He does ramble though but he tests on what he teaches so. Good man
Compared to Ochem 1, Davila was great! I would have received a A- but I unfortunately did bad on final which was my fault. Saying I had a C- in ochem 1. He gives tons of worksheets, practice test, and videos on how to do the problems!
Dr. Davila is considerate of his students and is very helpful to the students who ask for his help. If you go to class and pay attention you will do great on his quizzes and exams. His quizzes are a mix of take home and in person. His exams are to the point and arent made to trick you. If I could take Dr. Davila again I would.
Davila can be intimidating and sometimes rude, but this comes from him caring about his class and wanting students to learn. He will make you look silly. However, I learned more from him in OChem 1 versus OChem II Honors. I wish I took him for OChem II. If you really wish to learn OChem I recommend him. You will develop a thick skin, and learn lots
Davila might not be the highest rated but he will make sure you know ochem. He has his own notes and with a little googling you can get any info you want. He always makes his tests hard but his stuff is not out of left field. My first ochem professor taught me nothing, and he brought me from a 50 on my first test to an 89 on my last two tests.
Davila is the most caring science professor I've had. He is smart and incredibly approachable. If you aren't understanding something, go to his office and he will help. He is very likely to give bonus points throughout the semester too/give points back on tests if you go to his office! Class has 4 exams + 6 quizzes. 2262 is hard but Davila is great
Dr. Doctor is not the easiest professor, but he does make sure you learn the material. Since this is a lab course, you need to be ready to work. His midterm and final were not the easiest, but they were on zoom so that *helps.* There are extra credit quizzes and the pre and post labs are not too difficult (if you have a good TA).
He's a nice professor, and you're graded by 6 quizzes (3 regular in-class and 3 take-home) and 4 exams (including the final). Do not take the take-home quizzes for granted; they are way harder than the in-class ones. And personally, the multiple choice questions on the exams are so much more difficult than the write-in ones. So study for those.
Dr. Davilla was very helpful in lab. He would walk around in the different labs and give corrections and suggestions where needed. He was accessible outside of class to help us with the midterm or the lab reports. Dr. Davilla is very kind and understanding. He tries his best to address any concerns.
I took Davila over the summer and he was definitely a hard professor. But if you go to class and get an outside tutor, its possible to do well.
I am Prof. Davila's biggest fan! His extremely detailed notes, pre-recorded lecture videos, and in-person lectures made for straightforward lessons and expectations. He gave answers for take-home quizzes and is genuinely passionate about individual student understanding. He always cracked jokes and was very kind. Only complaint: FINAL WAS HARD!
People complain that the lectures are difficult to understand, but he also posts every single one on moodle to go back and rewatch. He offers many practice tests that can be similar to the actual test. Pretty funny dude and cares about the class.
People say he's hard, but I don't think he is. Genuinely, he is hilarious and will crack jokes. If you go to his office hours, he's such a caring and kind guy. People just perceive him "bad" because he has a sarcastic attitude at times. As for exams, do the practice exams and worksheets! There are no tricks. Quizzes are okay Good luck and have fun!
Let me just put this out there. Dr. Davila is not that great of a teacher. I found it much easier teaching myself a majority of the topics, due to his inability to do so during class time. He would also schedule tests the day breaks would end and not allow students to reschedule in order to be better prepared.
Very caring professor. he truly wants all of his students to succeed. He moves tests and provides extra charts on tests if necessary. He is kinda sassy, but he is not trying to be rude. He gives 6 quizzes (4 take home) and drops the lowest, sometimes gives bonus pts for attendance, and replaces lowest exam with final. HIGHLY recommend
took him for ochem 1&2. my favorite professor at LSU!! he provides so much practice material and recordings for the notes. He does not test on material the class is really not prepared for, he will push tests back if necessary. He gives 6 quizzes (3 take home) and 3 exams. he drops the lowest quiz and replaces lowest exam with final.
He gives pretty detailed notes and a lot of practice work. Pretty straight forward grading style. Final replaces lowest exam (3 total). Drops lowest quiz (6 total). I will say that he is kinda mean. Very much a no bs kinda man. I hate o chem; it's not easy whatsoever. But he definitely makes it easier. I highly recommend taking him.
If you have to take Ochem, TAKE HIM! I had a horrible professor for 2261, so taking Davila for 2262 was like a breath of fresh air. He has so many practice materials, and clearly explains everything. He does review zooms on the weekends and releases practice exams that are the exact layout of his actual exams! Best decision I ever made.
Ochem lab is done by the department, but Davila was very helpful. There were always mistakes in quizzes (he didn't make them), but he was always willing to give you your points back. The midterm and final are difficult but doable (each worth 20% of your grade). From what I hear from friends, Davila was chill during labs compared to the other profs
I had Davila for 2261 and 2262. He was awful for both. I basically taught myself. Don't take him if you can. I don't know if he made the notes or not, but they are also bad. They make relatively easy to understand concepts very confusing. Davila as a person is not very nice either. I only had a few interactions with him, and he was rude every time.
Ochem is very hard, but Davila makes it as easy as it can be. You can download all the notes from Moodle. He puts SO MUCH practice material online too. DO THE WORKSHEETS AND PRACTICE TESTS! He is very smart and always willing to help outside of class if you need it. If you can do the practice without difficulty, you'll get an A in the class.
I found this class easier than 2261. Use the practice posted online and got to lecture and you should be good
Gives you so many study resources on Moodle. Worksheets (with keys and videos explaining them), practice exams, and PDFs of specific schemes you should know for exam. He really wants you to succeed. Still a tough class, but he is the best professor you can take for it.
I really liked Davila! I think he was a good teacher and he really wanted his students to do well. Also, he gave extra credit during certain classes and he was always willing to answer questions. Sometimes his tone can be misunderstood, but I believe he means well.
Dr. Davila is a kind and hilarious professor, but it can be hard to keep up with him sometimes. He provided many practice materials for every exam, and his practice exams were very helpful. If you could complete the practice exam, you would succeed on his exams. He also would reward points back if you went to office hours.
Davila makes Ochem as easy as it can be. Lots of helpful practice material online. Use Unstuckstudy and do the worksheets - you'll get an A if you put in the work.
Dr. Davila is great and his tests were pretty straight forward. Sometimes in his lectures he can go off on tangents but if you are actively paying attention, you will learn a lot. Would definitely recommend going to SI and doing a lot of practice out of class however.
Not the best teacher but go to class, sometimes he will give extra credit. he wears funny shirts. quizzes are fairly easy. grading scale is lowered.
I had for Ochem 1 and 2, and I thought he was a good teacher. His notes were hard to navigate but he was a good Ochem teacher to have for both classes
Lectures were confusing for me, but he is so funny. He posts all notes so attendance isn't mandatory. does have quizzes, mostly take home. if you can do the worksheets you will be fine. I did not understand the material in lecture, but when time for the exam I'd figure out all the worksheets and reagents and would pass the exams. DO THE WORKSHEETS!
He is kind of everywhere with lectures. If you want to actually learn, you'll need to put in the work outside of the class. There are quizzes, homework, and test grades. Extra credit sporadically for attendance/participation. He is helpful in office hours.
Davila is a super kind gent. I never understood what was going on in class so I used Ben Chanes. To study for tests do all of Davila's worksheets and quizzes and you should be able to succeed. He does bonus attendance on Fridays when a lot of students will skip. Go to his office hours after exams and discuss your grade, you could be surprised!
To prepare for his exams, know how to do the worksheets he posts on moodle. He will pull a lot from the practice he posts and have very similar questions on exam. He does random bonus for attendance on Fridays. Graded by exams and usually biweekly quizzes. No homework so it's important to stay on top of practicing problems yourself
Dr. Davila was a great professor. Tests pull heavily from his worksheets, and I found his class much better than orgo 1. Obviously, the content is still more difficult, but that's the case with o chem universally. He's a very sassy man, which makes some misinterpret him, but he very much cares about student success. Bonus on take home quizzes!
Sets you up for success. Honestly a breath of fresh air after ochem 1. Practice worksheets on moodle prepare you PERFECTLY for the exam / quizzes. Bonus on quizzes too! I didn't always pay attention in lectures but made sure to attend because he would often say something important for a test or give bonus.
Good professor overall. Can be sassy at times. If you want the easiest A ever, you MUST get Ben Chanes.
Great personality, and made O Chem 2 very manageable. Practice reactions a lot before exams and you'll be fine.
Ochem is generally pretty difficult, but he makes it slightly better. He explains things well (even though his notes are hard to keep track of most of the time). There's no hw, quizzes usually have bonus points on them, and exams aren't curved at all. Also, quizzes are normally due in a week and are take home
Get Ben Chanes and practice his worksheets and any old tests you can get your hands on, he re uses questions from worksheets and tests sometimes! Also gave good bonus and almost all of the quizzes were take home highly recommend
