Lent is a good guy. He'll give you the info he wants you to know without trying to confuse you. He's very clear and he makes the material interesting. I definitely appreciate philosophy now. Tests are easy if you study. No HW or papers.
Lent can be a Bonehead about the questions on the tests. It's hard if you're not "use to" philosophy. The class isn't as good as I thought it would be, though he's a character.

I really liked this guy. He was friendly, he was energetic - had a class well worth waking up early for. There was the occasional trick question on his tests, but he would tell you during lecture exactly what the trick would be.

I learned a lot in this class... difficult, but thought provoking and interesting.
He was funny, I didn't like the class, but he was a good teacher.
Great professor. Made Ethics my favorite class of the quarter. Probably also the funniest professor I've ever had. My time at OU would have been a lot less exciting without Dr. Lent!
He is funny in a corny way. He is a good professor and tries to trick you on the exam. He will play with the wording of stuff. His exams are easier than what he claims they are, but they still are challenging. You do get to read the Ender's Game, however, which is a good book.
This was my favorite class. It's challenging at times, but really interesting and fun. Lent is the best!
Pretty funny, for a prof. Really tries to trick you on exams with specific wording, but take good notes and memorize them because you'll find that he gives you exactly what he wants in the notes. Likes in-class discussion, but no papers or homework.
Lent is a very entertaining professor. Two hours flies by when you have a professor like him. Just focus on being very specific in your notes and accurate when it comes to the tests, and you'll do very well (A or B). No papers or homework!
The material is kind of tricky, but he is a great teacher and I found the class interesting. You do need to study somewhat.
I had him for Phi of Ethics, fun class if you want to learn. But lent is cool and lets you speak your mind. a very groovie dude.
Really entertaining teacher and easy to pay attention to. Doesnt test on material from the book, only his notes. He words some questions tricky on the tests, but will warn you ahead of time what to look for. Just show up and take notes for a good grade
Good teacher, keeps you intersested and discusses a lot about what you want to talk about. Tests can be tricky and there are only three so you need to be careful!
one cool mutha fugga
Had a good time in his class.
He keeps you intrested and will answer any question you have. Though his tests can get a little tricky. And there are only 3 so if you mess one up your kinda screwed.
Decent guy, but this class was a real drag. Material is extremely dry and there isn't much he does to make it any better. Gives notes on BlackBoard and you have a lot to study. Exams are your only grade.
Coolest prof you'll ever have. Very smart guy and the classes are very interesting. The tests are a little tricky, but he tells you exactly what is going to be on them, just make sure you answer them right. If I would of studied insted of craming for this class I would of done really good. Lent grooves with maximal hipness.
very nice teacher, helps you if you need it, no homework so ur tests are ur ONLY grade and they are kinda hard...I got a B and i studied a lot! so be prepared to stress but it could be a lot worse, i thought it was boring tho
Cool guy! The class is a breeze. The only way it could be considered hard is if you don't go to class because he gives you a ton of hints for his exams there. The readings are not required to get A's on his exams.
Lent was definitely a cool, easy to listen to guy. His lectures are pretty conversational, so it's not as boring as it could be. He LOVES to put tricky wording on his exams, so be careful and really read each question. Study your notes and pay attention to all of the small details, and you'll be fine.
Lent is bad ass. He makes the class enjoyable to be in. Definitely worth getting up in the morning for his class. Lectures are very conversational and he tends to "groove with maximal hipness" on a daily basis. Hes a hippy, but a cool one. Study for the tests, theyre your only grade and the wording in the questions is always tricky.
A great class and awesome teacher! I always describe him as the most well-informed hippie. He's very cool. We listened to the Beatles at least once a week during the break time. Very approachable but you have to study for the exams! Fairly straightforward. Attendance isn't mandatory but I would recommend it!
Lent is a total hippie, but he is a great teacher with a ton of knowledge. His jokes are funny and his hair is wack, so the class is very easy going. His tests can be tricky and studying is a must for them. But Alfred C. Lentil Bean Ph.D is a great guy.
Have you had your Lent experience yet? Well, you should. Al Lent is the best philosophy prof. Period. He's such a hippie and he loves the Beatles and used them in examples at least 3 times a class. Make sure you study for test though, because they are not easy.
Very nice, personable professor. Displays notes through Word. Refuses to go PowerPoint. He puts the notes on Blackboard. Attendance isn't mandatory, but recommended because he can be devious when it comes to the tests and he gives fair warning about the questions during class time.
He is a very good and interesting teacher. There are only 3 exams and a final, but he helps you out A LOT with the exams. You just have to put in the effort to study for them and read the texts, which isn't a whole lot
Lent is pretty much the coolest person I've ever met, and it definitely comes through in his teaching. The class is really difficult, but he's so cool that you don't really care. Study hard.
I would not recommend this prof. He barely explained the material that you are supposed to be reading.. just told stories. the tests are VERY tricky. a few of the questions come from the review questions he gives in class. all i can say is memorise! i was also very offended by the religion section and the way that it was taught. take a diff prof!
Lent is a great teacher. The final grade was composed of 3 midterms and a final, and all 4 tests are scantron multiple choice. He gives almost all the answers in class and offers plenty of opportunities for not only extra credit, but personal study sessions as well. Come everyday and take notes and you can pull an A. Lent for president!
Lent is a great guy and a great teacher. He kept the class interesting and fun. Whether referencing Seinfeld ("It's the exact opposite!"), or boggling minds with straight philosophy, Lent definitely makes class worth attending--not to mention the practice questions find their way onto the exam.
I'll admit, Lent is a cool guy. However, his tests are very hard. He does give questions that are on the exams in class if you go. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I suggest you go to get the questions for the exam. Only take this class if you plan on spending A LOT of time studying and just trying to understand the difficult material.
Lent is by far one of the best profs at OU! Take him if you need a humanities credit. He is super funny, and a great guy in general- loves to chat with students about the complex and engrossing field of philosophy. Take it from a PHIL major one of the best!

Great guy! His class was very enjoyable! Not too hard. You learn while you go cause he makes it interesting so its not too hard to study for. He's really funny too. Yay Lent!
Lent is a cool guy. Class is interesting, and he's clear in what he's teaching. Ask a lot of questions if you don't understand, though. The tests were borderline ridiculous though, but at the end of the quarter he bumps your grade up. I thought I had a B in that class but found that I got an A! Great guy, great class. Also, he has awesome hair.
HILARIOUS! I absolutely loved this class. Lent is entertaining and informative. Go to class, its worth it and you'll do well on the tests without too much extra effort.
Da Boi! Al Lent is hilliarious. You can tell he use to be a genius hippi. Ask any question you have(about phil or not) BS with him before and after class, go to class, its fun a lot of times, he gives you questions and stresses things for the exam. review sessions are great/ al lent great, makes a weird phil130 topic great w him.take him w big clas
Lent is the man. I went to OU for only one quarter, and Lent was most definitely the highlight. All the tests are true/false and multiple choice, which is good and bad, but as long as you show up to class and make sure you understand the material (by either paying attention or asking Lent questions), you should do fine. A+
Lent is a pretty awesome funny guy. He does tend to wander off subject ALL OF THE TIME, but other than that, he is hilarious. He is very entertaining, and as long as you go to class and write down all the test questions (he gives you about half of them), then you will get at least a C in the class. You can also quibble with him for more points.
Dr Lent is probably the best professor in the Phil. department. I can't say enough good things about him. Helpful, hilarious, and a truly good guy. He made the information so clear and the class so fun that I never wanted him to end the class. Get involved in discussion and ask questions and he'll love you.
coolest dude you'll ever meet
Lent was a really awesome guy! But what can I say, philosophy is a hard subject, don't take it unless you know what your getting into. I suggest taking it with Lent, he is a really awesome guy and very approachable, just make sure you REALLY pay attention in class, otherwise you will get lost. Also, the 4 exams are worth EVERYTHING. So there's real
Lent is an awesome person but this class was so hard. unless you love philosophy I would suggest taking something else. He likes to wonder off the subject all of the time and even though his little rants are interesting, it makes it hard to focus on what you are trying to learn.
The class itself sucks, but Lent is a really cool guy. All notes are posted on Blackboard, which is nice when you miss class. If you have to take PHIL, take Lent.
tough class, tests were mostly true and false and some mult. choice..the answers were out to trick you..not an easy class but what philosphy class is
Nice guy, not the greatest professor. He will usually waste the first 20 minutes of class telling jokes, talking about the 1970's, his wife, and doing TERRIBLE impressions of gangsters in The Godfather. It wouldn't be bad if it wasn't EVERY day. The class did have a lot of interesting information, but his tests were difficult.
tough class, especially if you decide not to go. There are readings from the book but tests are more geared towards his class discussions. He's a really nice guy who tells some corny jokes but in my 2 hour class he was able to get everything across to us even while BSing for a little bit.
He's a great guy and the class is pretty easy as long as you get the notes and try to understand what he's saying in class. Lots of people don't even go to class because the notes are always posted online
Great Proffessor go to class n you'll do fine
I had to take this as an elective so i had no background on philosophy. He had 3-4 exams and a final comprehensive. Those were the only grades. Interesting and funny man during class. Has you do small reading before each class. Puts PowerPoint on blackboard but not everything is on them. Right down the examples he gives you because many are word f
He's a good guy. He is passionate about Philosophy and tries to inspire that same interest in his students. Does it always work? Not quite. I was lost in his lectures. I think reading before this class would have made a BIG difference, or just having a prior interest in the subject. Overall, he was okay. Entertaining, none the less.
Great Proffesor explains well. Class was sometimes pointless but going to class was fun(went to all the classes but there were a couple times i thought about skipping). Best Proff Fall Quarter going to class just makes your day better
He is a man stuck in the 60's. Basically if you read from the book you'll be fine. He does give some of the test questions as notes but he is hard to pay attention to if you're uninterested in philosophy. Your grade consists of the tests only which is hard if you don't like tests.
Very easy class and a cool professor. Honestly, if you can't get at least a B in this class there is something wrong with you. Just go to class every day, and study the night before each exam. EASY.
I like Lent. He is a cool dude. He makes jokes all of the time and is really funny! i was really nervous about taking this class because I don't know anything about philosophy, but he is a good prof. He gives you some questions that will actually be on the exams! Find someone that took the class before you and get their old exams!!!!!
Funny interesting guy. I didn't buy the book but I went to every class. He gives you some questions that appear on the test which are good to study. Good prof over all.
Good professor. Very entertaining to listen to during lectures. Does impressions of his New York family a lot but its funny. Talks about this site a lot too. Fun teacher nonetheless, would definitely recommend.
He gets off topic a lot. You don't really learn anything in class, he just uses it as a discussion period rather than an actual lecture. He does give guideline notes which are helpful. Participation is a big part of your grade so its tough if your shy. The book is the best way to learn the material, because it's hard to take notes off his "lecture"
Took class online and had TA's. No valuable feedback to improve discussion pts.If you participated then you should get full credit, and they never gave full credit for whatever reason. Philosophy isn't everyone's major just bc they take this class, so it needs to be consider. I read all the required material and still didn't feel prepared with test
Lent is a really cool guy in class and in real life. He normally gives you the exact questions with answers that will be on the exams. No need to buy a book because anything that will be on the exam is covered in class. You need to go to class every day and pay attention to get a good grade. But if your willing to do that this is a good class!
He is arrogant and talks too much. The whole class is four exams and even though he gives some of the questions to you in class, new material always shows up one them. One of our exam class averages was a 64% and he still refused to curve it. Unless you like philosophy, I wouldnt take this class.
Lent was awesome! Great sense of humor so he was easy to follow and pay attention! The content wasn't the most interesting all the time. Gives you exact questions in class that will show up on the exam. Exams are mildly difficult. Make sure you study more than just the night before if you want to get an A. Otherwise a great intro class!
Lent is an amazing teacher, as long as you attend the lectures you will do amazingly on the exams. He tells a lot of stories but I believe they are what make the class. BY FAR my favorite professor at OU!
Dr. Lent was very helpful. He is open to new spatio-temporally unrestricted ideas about ethical theory and personal identity. He is a good teacher who answers questions energetically and encourages a fun atmosphere of philosophical discussion.
Lent is a very cool guy and made the class interesting. As long as you go to class and take the notes you'll do fine. The only bad thing is that the only grades for the class come from 3 big exams and the final but the questions come straight from the notes and he'll always answer any question you might have.
Lent is a strange, corny kind of guy. He's good at teaching though. If you go to class and take notes every day then you'll get at least a B. If you actually pay close attention, getting an A is easy. The book is really not necessary, he'll tell you everything you need to know.
Lent is very nice. He goes over exam questions in class. He even held two study sessions before the final. Tells jokes randomly to help students stay focused. Four exams total, all multiple choice. Gave us 5 bonus points on first exam. I definitely recommend Prof. Lent.
He is one of my favorite professors ever!! He is super nice and wants everyone to do well in the class. He will give a TON of example problems in class that are just like the exams. For sure take him!!!
just show up to class
His class is interesting (most of the time). He does ramble a bit, although most of his stories are interesting. He will give you 50-60% of the exam questions in class. Be careful though, he likes to trick you by changing wording sometimes. Things seem contradictory at times.
Interesting, patient, fun.....good with the students. Real desire to fill the void.
He is awesome! It gets confusing at times but he gives example questions that are on the exams which totally help! he is fun and rambles but he knows what he is talking about! He is willing to help if you are confused too! take him!!
He's great
Lent is amazing. People do not do that well in his class but that's through underestimation of the coursework, not attending class and/or paying attention, and not reading the book. Lent is more than helpful. Study and you will do well.
Boring class but you should either go or have a friend go because he gives many test answers in class. Would not recommend if Philosophy doesn't seem to be your thing and you aren't required to take it.
Lent is a cool guy, sort of a hippie. He goes over a lot of questions that will be on exams. Exams aren't too hard if you study, but you have to go to class if you even wanna have a chance at understanding the class
Al Lent is awesome. I liked him a lot, and although his class was boring, it's important to go because he gives you most of the test questions/answers. He's very personable and wants his students to do well. You have to work to earn your A in here, but I would take him.
Good teacher, he's a professor who tries to make the best of his class. He knows most people in the class are there for gen-ed, and will always talk about the lack of attendance, but manages to crack a joke about it. Would suggest this class to anyone, and I only wish I could take it more than once.
Great professor with a great sense of humor. Realizes logic isn't the most interesting topic, so he keeps the mood light. Wish I had this professor for the first time I took the class!
Profesor Lent is very knowledgable and pretty easy going. He is a cool guy and very helpful if you seek him out. I really enjoyed the subject matter, but even those who didn't seemed to like him. the tests are pretty much right off the quizzes so they were easy to do well on with a little bit of studying. Highly recommend signing up for his class.
Excellent professor! I took this class to meet a Tier 2 requirement, not caring about philosophy. The exams are easy if you take good notes, and the textbook isn't really needed. He's a pretty chill guy, telling jokes to try and keep us focused. I enjoyed the class, thinking I wouldn't. Wouldn't mind having him as a professor in more classes.
Dr. Lent's class was a bit difficult due to the subject matter, but he is a great prof. He is funny, smart, and cares about making sure you understand the information. As long as you do the assigned reading and excercies you will be compeltly fine in this class. I definitley reccoment you take Lent's class!
Very nice professor, and very easy. He takes a potentially boring subject and makes it interesting. He's also very approachable and interesting to talk to if you get the chance. Attendance isn't necessary, but it helps since he gives exam questions in the class.
Lent was a hilarious professor. He told a lot of funny stories, and (for the most part) held my interest in the subject. The exams weren't too bad.
Lent will take you on a magical and educational journey through Lentworld (what he calls his class). Lent is a jokester but at the same time a very smart guy. He harps on the necessity of the textbook to pass the class but in all honesty as long as you go to class you'll pass. Exams are 100% based on quizzes you take throughout unit
Lent is a cool guy- has fun stories to tell to add to his lectures about the generally boring topic of Logic. Either you get it or you don't- so GO TO CLASS. Got an A no problem but I attended every class which was pertinent. Homework is ungraded, quizzes can be corrected for full credit. Book was pretty much a waste. Split it with someone.
Go to class.
AN interesting person to say the least. His lectures can be a little misleading ad confusing but you don't really need to pay attention to them. The quizzes he puts online can be done twice and everything on the exams is from them. Easy A as long as you study from the quizzes.
I've had Lent for two classes and definitely plan on coming back for more. He's super chill and makes sure that his class is as passable as possible. You don't need the book; he sends out practice problems and study guides for the exams. Just a cool dude and a fabulous professor.
Lent gets that most people are just taking his class because it's required, so he adds humor to lighten the mood and makes it easy to pass. All of his quizzes were for participation, and if you study those the exams aren't awful. Just make sure you go to class.
Lent was a fascinating professor. His 55 minute lectures were interesting and while attendance wasn't mandatory it was definitely helpful to be there to take notes. As long as you pay attention in class, take the (easy) online quizzes, and study a little for the exams (which were exactly like the quizzes) then you're golden.
Lent turns a boring subject into something that you can actually use in real life thinking. He throws humor into his lectures, and the weekly quizzes are completion. You also have a TA for the separate discussion class, which is helpful in learning the material because you get a second explanation of a concept in case you don't understand Lent's.
Lent is great lecturer and has this class set up very well. The exams and the online quizzes are pretty much the same. The exams are every few weeks and are all multiple choice. The online quizzes are given weekly and can be taken as many times as you want.
By far the most down to earth best professor i've ever had. It was required for my business major and now i'm seriously considering minoring in philosophy because the way he teaches, you actually get it.
Professor Lent is a really good guy but I did not enjoy his class. I had him for a three hour lecture period and I would strongly advise you not to do this to yourself. Lectures were very confusing for me but the online quizzes helped to clear things up. Tests were tricky with wordy questions and way too many T/F. Avoid the three hour course.
Great professor, Exams are the exact quiz questions. A few may be changed, Good guy
Lent is absolutely hilarious and he makes the lectures fun. He doesn't take attendance, but it is so much easier to learn the material when you hear him explain it. He gives you quizzes that are not exactly like the exams, but they're very similar and they are very helpful. You do not need to purchase the textbook to pass the class, I promise.
All in all, a good class. It covers A LOT of material in just a little bit of time, get ready for fast paced. He is always available through email and he is a really nice guy. Several times I have actually laughed out loud in his class (something I can't say for many professors). Tests are easy if you do well with essay questions.
Philosophy is already tough. Lent really cares about his student such as nice guy. Knows its a required class so he uses humor every class to try not to put the people to sleep. Material is extremely confusing but loved Lent. Study Quizzes and Exams and you should be able to manage a B.
This guy is an absolute dawg. Gotta love Al
I have had professor Lent for Phil 1200 and Phil 1300. If you have the choice between Lent & another professor, Lent all the way! He is a free spirit, unpredictable, hilarious and definitely keeps you interested. He puts all of the exam questions on the quizzes so as long as you study the quizzes hard, you'll pass all of the exams easily.
Al is a cool guy. He has a way of making things interesting even if you don't like the topic much. He also gives everyone a chance to participate. His lectures are more discussions than lectures so it keeps people awake.
This professor is super chill and the class is very easy to pass
Awesome Awesome dude. He cares about his students and has a corky humor. He is very nice and as long as you put forth effort for his class, he will respect you. You can tell he loves his students and job. Definitely Love this professor, and will do what he can to help you pass if you are struggling
If I were to write a movie script about the ideal college professor, Alfred Lent would be who I would model my character after. Professor Lent is a modern day philosopher who really wants to open the minds of those around him. He is engaging, funny, and knows his stuff. Lent was born to teach. Take his classes and groove with maximum hipness.
Lent is a really funny guy - took a poll on the first day of class to see how many people knew who Joni Mitchell was. A little fast because there's so much to cover, but it was easy to find someone to borrow notes from if you felt like you were missing something. The tests and grading were always really straight-forward.
Lent is a legend. He makes class enjoyable because he knows almost everyone enrolled is only there to fulfill a requirement for their major. For as complex of a topic as it can be, he does a good job of distilling it into easy-to-understand terms. Some will roll their eyes at his dry sense of humor, but it really makes class more bearable.
This class would be a lot more easier if his lectures werent just him rambling about random topics and his life. He gives you powerpoints to look off of but they are really unorganized. There are four exams, and a final that is cumulative. Also, he gives out BlackBoard quizzes which can be taken more than once to get 100%. Dont take this class.
The content isn't necessarily hard, he is literally just insane. I know more about his life than I do about philosophy (his wife bought him a toolkit last Christmas.) He words things in really strange confusing ways and none of the content flows. Looking at this site I thought it would be an easy A, but everyone ive talked to agrees its impossible.
Class is extremely lecture heavy. Lectures are often unorganized and hard to follow and he goes off on rants unrelated to philosophy. Has a weird lecture style but class is passable. Quizzes online have unlimited tries and often questions are copied and pasted on the tests but not always.
The first exam has questions from the quizzes, the next three you need to study and even if you study he has questions that were not from the powerpoint.
Dr. Lent is a very interesting person. The material is not the most interesting in the world, but he had funny stories and tried to keep the material interesting. The class is easy, I didn't show up most of the time but managed to get good grades. The notes are posted and the exams are the same as the quizzes posted online with a few words switched
Literally went to like 4 total classes because every time I would try and go I would fall asleep. You can 100% teach the material better to yourself then he can teach you and all the notes/powerpoints/quizzes are online. I just showed up for the tests and got an A- in the class.
Easy. Only tough part was that an A was a 94. Go to class, he gives away exam answers sometimes, and he is fairly entertaining. Exams are nearly identical to online quizzes he gives out.
He seems like a super nice guy but he's weird. He does not explain concepts well. He goes on little rabbit trails when you ask him a question and ultimately forgets what he's even answering. I had to go to tutoring for someone else to teach me the material.
Lent is an extremely personable guy, he clearly loves his subject, and brings energy and humor into every class. That said, he does NOT cover material in a fair manner. His tests are filled with trick questions, and there is no way you could do well on an exam by simply taking notes from his lectures, you need to rigorously utilize outside sources
This is so far the only class I would rather have taken in the classroom instead of online. He introduced each lecture with a podcast and with some sarcastic humor injected he makes it easy to listen. Sets clear expectations, and if you do your homework you do well. Very happy with his choice of smaller textbooks and doable volume of readings.
Alfred is hilarious. He's well aware of what people say about him on this website and actually addressed the fact that he talks a lot on the first day of lecture (it's true, he does). It can be hard to hear him at times but if you sit in the front of the room you'll be fine. He's very smart and probably should be teaching to higher level classes.
He is an aging hipster, a raging trickster and a helpful tipster. He keeps the class entertaining, and as long as you show up and ask questions you should be fine. He knows how to keep a party going.
This class was... interesting, hard to follow lectures, it seemed as if I could learn better and in a shorter amount of time if I used youtube videos, which was upsetting cause lent is a funny guy and his lectures were fun. all grades are quizzes and exams, but quizzes are completion. I hope to take a true philosphy class with Lent, this is math.
Lent himself is a great dude, but PHIL 1300 is a tough class. Unless you are required to take it or have a love for philosophy I do not recommend. The class is tough if you do not already know the material. Even after trying to teach myself I did not understand what the hell was doing on and dropped the class in Week 4.
The exams contains all quiz questions that are either the same or reworded. His lectures get off topic so I rarely went to class, but he is hilarious. Everything (notes, quizzes, handouts) is on Blackboard. The class isn't super hard, but it's definitely not easy. If you are interested in philosophy, you'll be fine.
The TA for this class taught me everything outside of class. (Bless you, Chris.) Lent is easily distracted and this makes his explanations lengthy and complicated. If you think you will struggle with the subject I'd take it with someone else. If logic/proofs comes easily to you, you'll be ok. Very exam heavy.
Professor Lent is seriously the best prof out there. Corny dude, but if you actually pay attention to what he says, you will learn a lot!
I took this class online, but since he uses podcast, if feels like a real lecture. He encourages interesting discussions. Philosophy sounds like a dry topic, but he injects a sense of humor to make it fun. The quizzes make you think and can be tricky at times, but nothing you cannot figure out, if you study. The class was very inspiring and fun!
I learned slim to nothing during the lecture portion of this class. Lent complicates things, gets off topic and rambles on about nothing majority of the time. Thank god for my TA. I learned by reading the book and going to the discussion portion of the class.
Lent's a good guy, I just would like to start off with that. I had an issue at the end of the semester and he helped me out and turned it into a learning experience. I'm grateful for it. But, even after going to almost every class, I still don't understand ethics. Your grade is very dependent on exams so, if you don't test well, don't take it.
How do I start off explaining this freak show? Ah. I know he is a hippie from the 70s, that still thinks he is in the 70s. He wears the same exact clothes every single day. In class you will question why did I pay for college. Class makes no sense at all. You study for absolutely no reason. Do no take this class if you want to be happy.
Dr. Lent is very outgoing and goofy. This class is only as hard as you make it. Skipping class will set you behind 100%. The first exam is the easiest after that expect to study hard.
Even though i didn't do the best (my fault), I absolutely love the way he teaches. I just signed up for another class!
I would like to warn any incoming freshmen to avoid taking this class with him as a professor. Lent would be a fun guy to drink with, but Lent as a professor is no good. He never covers what you are tested on, he rambles incessantly about his life. The vibe in his class is like when Kyle from south park's dad moves to San Fran and sniffs his farts
I am taking Dr. Lent's classes online, and honestly wish I could be attending in person. His classes provide enough information (through lecture, notes as well as text reading) that should you actually pay attention to the material and engage with both it and your fellow classmates- you should not only grow as a student but as a person as well.
dont choose this prof he's a terrible teacher. if you don't attend his lectures it'll be tough but when you do attend he rambles on about nothing, gives unwanted opinions no one asked for and tries too hard to be funny. taking it online is easy enough, but if you absolutely HAVE to take this just take good notes and attend class and you'll be fine.
Was understanding given the circumstances brought on by COVID. He is a goofy, laid-back prof. Tends to ramble a bit in lectures. Class discussions are interesting. He is inclusive, no question or comment is disregarded. That is unless it makes no sense or it is not fully explained. Grooves with maximal hipness.
This class held up to be exactly what I expected it to be. Lent provided lectures, notes, and quizzes that all relate back to exams. It's easy enough to pass as long as you pay attention and ask questions when you're confused. Be careful, he's a raging trickster.
My sister recommended that I take a Lent class at some point in college because he is truly iconic. Online due to covid, I even had a few friends listen in on a class to see the great Alfred C. Lent. A hilarious guy, lots of impressions, funny stories, but also tons of knowledge. He might not be everyone's cup of tea, but he was mine.
Really sweet goofball. Cares about his students. Doesnt mandate busy work, but if you dont attend his lectures and study for exams, youll scrape by. Rambles a bit in class, but is super accommodating of COVID-19 restrictions. Engaging and hell make you giggle. Grooving with maximum hipness in lent world.
Professor Lent was one of the best professors I've ever had. Absolute definition of a guy, he is like a fun uncle. His lectures are super engaging with constant dad jokes, I would genuinely look forward to class. Pay attention in the lectures and you will pass, 90% of the exams are questions taken from the 5-10 point quizzes post-lecture.
Lent really cares about students, willing to accomodate. I found that a half hour per week of studying for this class was more than enough to keep up. If philosophy isn't exactly your thing, you might be better off in PHIL1300, but definitely take at least one class with him while at OU. Great and hilarious prof!
Very boring but he is a really nice professor and happy to answer any questions. Will do quizzes with you in class. Exams are lengthy.
Lent is such an amazing professor. He is so intelligent and well-spoken. His lectures can get pretty boring because of the subject matter, but Lent always throws a dad joke in there to keep you hooked. My favorite Lent quote is "grooving with maximal hipness on a Thursday afternoon"
Lent is a real gem, his class is pretty easy, there is no homework just weekly quizzes and tests but it is all very manageable. His lectures can drag on but Lent keeps your attention with his funny, jokes, stories, and catchphrases. He is also a true hipster.
Every class has a quiz. Half the time he does the quiz with you. Get 75-80% on the quizzes and you get an A on homework. Most answers you can find on quizlet. All exams are open note. I played video games half the time and just had him in the background. Kind of hard to get an A but almost impossible to get less than a B if just show up.
Alfred lent is a gem of a human being. One of the memories from this class was him discussing the morals of his parents being valid or not because they lied to him about santa. This realisation came to him when he was smoking with a mall santa. An entertaining professor who makes going to class not suck too bad.
Lent is a really great guy who has made the course very flexible. Exams are open-note and he bases them off of the in-class quizzes. Use those to study and take notes on them, and you'll get an A.
A fun lecturer. He doesn't have a formal textbook, and the material he provides doesn't always have annotations, so going to class is important. He has "quizzes" to go with every lecture but they're pretty easy and he'll go over the answers in class. The exams are open note and just like the quizzes. He reads, but doesn't always respond to, emails.
Professor Lent was great. The class was difficult and I had to work hard, but he made the material that we covered interesting. He pulls the questions for his tests right from his quizzes, so if you study well for those you'll be in good shape. I'd take him again if I had to take a philosophy or ethics class.
Professor Lent is alright. I'm not a fan of ethics, but it was an easy class with easy grading. However, he has never answered any of my emails.
Dr. Lent is funny and relatable. His quizzes and exams are easy, considering he repeats questions regularly. My favorite part of the class was the fact he would play the same instrumental ("alien-like" as my roommate says) song for 10 minutes leading up to each class as he stared at us, deep in thought. What a way to start a philosophy class!
Not a bad class, but I only ever went to lectures twice & finished the class with a solid 98. When I did go to the lectures, I was bored out of my mind. Hes also awful about answering emails about important matters, but again, the class was a very easy A.
Dr. Lent was hilarious. Even though the material can get boring or strange, I recommend taking it for the easy A. The exams were online and open note, so they were very easy. Attendance was not mandatory and you could pass without showing up, but I would still recommend going once in a while.
lent is an aging hipster and a raging trickster but most of all he's a really cool dude. class is mostly a watch-a-movie or take-a-nap kinda place but if you show up he'll do the quizzes for you. everything is online and he's understanding about needing an extra day to do the quiz. he can be boring but really funny
Lent is amazing. He explains everything so clearly, and if you don't understand something, you can ask him questions. My advice? Bring a notebook to class and work on the problems he does on the board with him. The class is super easy if you show up, and if you don't you'll fall behind. Also, keep a tally of all his weird phrases. It's fun.
Professor Lent is a very entertaining lecturer at times (everyone has some bad days). It was difficult for me to enjoy this class as is it almost exactly the same as his PHIL 1100 class. I appreciated having it easy, but I don't enjoy being bored. Quizzes are very easy but answers are all over google. It's nice that the exams are the same as quiz.
I took this class asynchronous online, and Dr. Lent made it extremely straightforward to navigate. His online lectures are minimized to ten minutes per week, which is all that is really necessary. Content is thought-provoking and makes for some interesting discussion boards. Exams are insanely easy to prepare for. Perfect for satisfying a gen ed
Attendance isn't mandatory, but attending class definitely makes a difference. He assigns short quizzes and does them with the class. DO QUIZZES ON TIME! I sometimes skipped class and did them later because they stayed open, but he only graded them if turned in before a certain, unknown deadline. Turn them in within a few days of class to be safe.
Man is a legend. Content itself is not always engaging but mans connects it in interesting ways. Hearing his lectures is always a treat
This class is very easy & interesting imo. Attendance isn't necessary (notes are online), however some material can get confusing so it is helpful to go. Tests are open note, & either straight from the notes he provides or from quizzes posted based on lectures (which are also open note). Very funny guy who is passionate about what he's doing.
Lent is an entertaining lecturer. He is very fun to listen to as he bounces around the room. His class can be tough if you don't fully get it or if you skip. The quizzes are completion grades but the exams are tough. Read the textbook, do the practice problems and you'll get it. Abstract concepts can be hard and he doesn't always explain things.
His class was easy to get engaged in, and he usually threw the occasional dad joke in to keep us interested. The pop quizzes are easy, and he allows collaboration on them as well as notes, sometimes he will even do the pop quiz with the class. The exams are straightforward and if you use his exam quizzes tab, you'll get an easy A.
Dr. Lent is exactly what you picture a philosophy professor to look like and act. He is a great human being and truly cares for his students. Attendance isn't mandatory but he does have pop quizzes he will do with you during the classes that help boost your grade. Although his lectures can be long and drawn out the stories, he tells make them great
Professor Dr. Alfred C. Lent is a wonderful person. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and was entertained by his jokes and stories. This was one of the few classes that kept my attention and the material was genuinely interesting. I recommend attending class because you will hear information that may not be in the notes but will be on quizzes/exams.
Prof. Lent is a great professor to have. He makes his lectures funny and relatable, even when the content is boring. His tests were open note, making class pretty easy.
Professor Lent is very knowledgeable and has an outgoing personality. Attendance isn't mandatory but beware of the quizzes during each class. it will haunt you in the end if you don't do these. It wasn't clear on the syllabus that you HAVE to complete these. They looked like they were just for extra credit. He is pretty fair overall though.
Lent is an amazing professor with an easy to pass class. He opens a quiz during almost every class to cover what was talked about. His exams are simply quiz questions reworded. The lectures make the material very easy to understand.
Lent is a very funny and good professor he is just very vague with his explanations of things. Definitely do the optional homework pages he recommends they will help. I basically taught myself with YouTube videos. After exam one he throws so many lessons at you and if you don't get the first lecture they keep compiling so try to keep up.
Professor Lent is the chilliest professor I've ever had. He class is super easy as long as you do the bare minimum, and he is such a character I loved his lectures. A great class that gives you a break from the tougher stuff. You really don't have to attend lectures, but I recommend doing it because listening to him talk is a pleasure.
I took Lent for Phil 1200, the very last class I had to take before graduating. The tests are almost impossible and incredibly long and if you do not understand some of the concepts he teaches you will not do well. When asking for extra credit he often ignores it. Nonetheless he takes his job too seriously.
Professor Lent's class is a laid-back breather. With engaging lectures and easy quizzes, it's a great class to take. Unstuckstudy and the textbook are helpful for study prep.
super chill teacher he is super funny. I did only go to a couple classes but that was all i needed for the exams definitely would take again
All of his tests are open note and most of the questions are from quizzes that we take in class each day. He's super chill and PHIL 1300 was an easy to pass class as long as you take the quizzes each class, which you can do even if you don't attend class in person.
he's cool and gives little to no work
Dr. Lent was an amazing professor for for my first and only required Philosophy class. He acknowledged that he knew a lot of the people in the class were not philosophy majors and made it easy for everyone to succeed. Tests and quizzes were open note and everything is on quizlet.
Lecture are kind of hard to follow along but the work is easy. Al is a very interesting guy.
The class was very easy and Lent is a cool dude, would take it again fs
al is an interesting guy for sure! he knows that most of the students in his classes are just there to fulfill a requirement so he tries to make lectures interesting even though they can be boring. attendance isn't necessarily mandatory but i suggest you go to every class. very cool guy i suggest taking one of his classes!
very understanding if you miss a big assignment, he's very flexible. Attendance is not mandatory, but I recommend going he is a very fun prof. Intro to ethics with him is a very easy A and again it's a really fun class.
Class is easy but it is almost impossible to get him to respond to an email
He is a chill and funny professor. However, his teaching does not make sense half the time, and his TAs also never make sense. Quizzes are fine, but the exams are always hard. I had to teach myself half of the material because it never made sense when he explained everything. Doesn't feel like an intro class. This should be a higher-level class
It's very clear Dr Lent has a passion for what he is teaching. Although he is not the most technologically savvy person and is still very much pen and paper. Expect a difficult to navigate canvas and some assignments not showing up. He is difficult to get in contact with, once I had to email him 3 times over 2 weeks to get a response.
“Lent” as he likes to be called is an amazing guy. Always tries to make lectures funny or relatable, even if the content itself may not be that interesting. For exams, he gives you a “practice exam” to study with which is just the real exam + questions copy and pasted. Exams were open note, and he always got me for a laugh (when I went)
Good teacher, knows his stuff. But he can't use canvas and struggles with the online grading which led to a lot of grade confusion. I gave an effort and thought I was doing great in the class until the mishap with canvas. Then I did worse in the final than I expected. Helpful tipster, raging trickster, aging hipster. 5/10
This course challenged me in ways I never thought I would be challenged. I really enjoyed the discussions boards we had weekly to discuss the content we were learning. The quizzes and tests were fairly easily if you do the readings and the work. I spent a lot of time working in this class but really enjoyed taking it!
worst professor I had. Lectures made no sense, if you asked a question he would overcomplicate causing more confusion. I had to teach myself pretty much everything which was frustrating. TA I had was just as bad, to the point my class went off on the TA cause he was not teaching anything correctly. For an intro class, it feels nothing one.
Multiple tries on the quizzes. Exams are tough and you only get 1 shot. Late grader and missed putting some in so I had to email him. Lectures confusing but scan the internet to teach yourself. I did nothing for the last 2 lessons and still ended with an A. If you email him, address him as Hey, Lent! Only used the textbook for reference.
