Kind of annoying, takes roll and is an #$@ about it. Classes are informative, but you'll see trick questions on the test especially the final. I studied real hard and couldn't make an A. I'd say try for someone else. And he looks like a Ninja Turtle.
Good Teacher. Explains things very well. Only fault would be not giving enough credit to the students. His class is so basic, an 8th grader could pass...
this dude is one of the WORSE teachers i've had. He's rude to his students and tries his hardest to not give you an A. I also couldn't understand what the hell he was saying so I wouldn't pay attention to class
He is really opinionated. His classes are not hard but not easy. You have to go to class. If I were you I would talk to him and make sure he notices you becuase he has favies. Don't do the extra point paper unless you REALLY need it. Go to class EVERY day.
Attend Class, your grade depends on it! Easy class if you go. He likes to joke, only a few people get it though. Make sure you talk to him after class and say hello anywhere you see him, he likes the people who he notices, and participate, even if your not always right.
Good teacher. Always in a good mood. Likes to crack jokes (only half will understand). Very educated in business. No homework, only 3 tests, but attendance counts. If you go to class and pay attention, you can get a B or C without studying. Half of a finger! Extra Point Paper is optional. I say take him.
He has a little different teaching style, but he is a nice guy. Once you get the hang of it, its easy.
Hard! Not the worst test, but almost the worst lecture! He is somewhat hard to understand, b/c very fast and his words get "mummble jumbled" together! I don't recomend, but he is the only one that teaches MGMT 425! HAVE TO ATTEND CLASS!!!

What appeared to be an easy turned out to be the opposite. The material is boring but the teacher did his best to make the material understandable. The first test was very easy but the next two were not. Must attend class, take good notes, and study the book. Hes a good teacher but the material sucks. I got an A.
He keeps a positive attitude every class. DON'T use your cell phone, and attendance is extremely helpful as he does give bonus points. Willing to work with you, and seems extremely caring, especially about your health! Very nice guy
He gives a lot of notes but if you really study them you'll do fine on the tests. Class will NEVER be cancelled. Don't be late, use your phone, or do any other work in his class. He takes roll daily. If you're looking for an easy A, you probably shouldn't take him, but I made a B by just taking notes and studying them the night before the test.
Made an A fairly easily. Had zero interest in the "art of mgmt" but Toma gave very useful info on how to manage subordinates well. He likes participation; don't be afraid to open your mouth like most of my class was. Skipping will hurt your grade.
Good class. Writes notes on board. MUST attend class and NOT be late! No homework, some bonus. Overall Easy if you study your notes and book.
Spent too much time complaining about attendance and not enough time on the subject. Jokes are lame and rarely does he finish on time. I would recommend that you take someone else.

I love Toma...He takes a while to get used to, but once you get to know him, he will help you in any way he can. I took him for 340, 425, and internship in management (380). I made an A in all three. He wrote me an awesome letter of recommendation for Graduate School. Get to know him!
He is hard to understand at times. Sometimes gives points for attending on friday, very nice teacher. Test are not too hard. Cannot miss class! Attendance is a big percentage of your final grade. Gives many opportunities for extra credit. Only 3 test and none are cummulative!
He is an awsome teacher. You must put forth effort in this class. Attendance is a must, if you miss you will be lost. Gives chances for extra credit. He doesnt like people to be late for his class. He like you to participate and if you dont he will call on you. You Must read the chapters are you will fail, as simple as that. I would take him again
Ok, he can seem like a jerk at times, but if he sees that you are putting forth an honest effort, you will be on his good side. GO TO CLASS and as much as we might hate to, READ THE CHAPTERS! I made outlines of the chapters as he suggested to do, and i studied my notes, the book, and his notes in class for the tests. Your hard work will pay off!
Inconsistent tests. Mean. Doesn't speak english well. He is the only teacher that teaches this class right now. Hopefully they'll hire a 2nd choice soon. Buy the old edition. It's the same and cheap!
By far the WORST teacher I have ever had. He spends most of class lecturing about how we should be learning and expanding our minds rather than teaching the material. His tests are really hard and he treats his students as if they were still in elementary school. Ex. he told a guy to see him after class when he was caught text messaging...
Welcome to college. He makes you LEARN & is only helpful if he sees you want to help yourself. Read what he suggests in the book. Learn the map. The last test is the hardest. Pay attention in class & you won't have trouble passing & you won't have to study much. The inflection change in his voice tells you what's important. He isn't mean at all.
not an easy class but he is one teacher you will never forget. he is here to teach and does a great job at showing his passion for education.
If you don't feel like having to participate or being called on in a class do not take him. He is the only teacher for this course. Unfortunately I am going to have to re-take this class. I'm putting it off though. His tests are really hard.
If you want to learn and be treated as an adult and not a child, this is the place for you! This extremely knowledgeable man wants his students to succeed and gives them all the tools to do so. I hope we never lose him to another school; what a devestating loss it would be. Take all his courses; a true investment for your future.

This man is extremely inconsiderate of his students. He asks for responses but corrects every single one and uses the opportunity to make everyone feel inferior. If you miss no classes he gives you 20 extra points and also gives random 2 point extra point assignments throughout the semester. you will NEVER feel prepared for his tests.
He is a great teacher and very knowledgeable. Will he make you work hard for your grade and will he make you super angry at times? YES! But you'll walk out having learned a lot. Take advantage of the bonus points and don't skip class and get 20 bonus points added to your total grade. Study for the quizzes. I made a high A so it's possible.
He is a great teacher. Definitely not an "easy" class but Dr Toma knows what he is talking about and you will walk out of the class significantly more cultured. He will make you mad sometimes but I think he is very much like what college professors should be like. He is helpful if he sees that you're trying. Study for the quizzes (seriously, read the chapter) and do the bonus point stuff. It's easy and it adds up and makes him want to help you.
This class was not an "easy A" but he kept you so engaged that it was easy to learn. Ten point quizzes on every chapter, three exams, and he gives bonus points for attendance plus additional bonus point opportunities. Most of the material is somewhat common sense but still, stay on track with reading. He makes it very easy to do well.
Boring material. Pretty easy class. Gives bonus points for attendance. Rude in some ways, just go to class & pay attention and you'll be fine.
Pros: He gives a grade for attendance. He gives a few extra bonus points during the semester. Cons: You WILL need to read the book without a doubt. He has a very thick accent so it is hard to understand him from time to time. He will put you to sleep.
This man was the most stubborn and irritating professor I have ever had. He treats you as an adult, but treats you like a child at the same time. He only takes his own opinion. His tests are tough even though he says they are "not tricky." His accent is too thick, he goes off his own logic of management, and he uses initials to identify terms.

Save yourself and don't take Toma. He is disrespectful, only takes his opinion, and will try to prove you wrong every time. He asks questions and wants responses. He yells a lot, and is too loud majority of the time. Material is easy, but he makes it really difficult to understand. Read the book, do the bonuses, and go to class!
Please, for your sake, try not to take this professor. He is the most irritating professor ever. He yells, he is loud, he thinks he is right and everyone else is wrong. Go to class, he gives credit for attendance. He loves participation and if you don't he'll talk about you. The test are very tricky (don't listen to what he says). READ THE BOOK!
Very smart guy, however; he does not understand that this is an undergraduate level course. His expectations of how well he wants you to master the material are not congruent with other undergraduate courses. I failed by 3 points. He said 1 or 2 and he could bump me up but 2 was too many. I passed everything but the final.
Okay his lectures can go on for a while about the same things. But you have to appreciate someone that really cares about the students learning, not just textbook material. I respect him highly. He is organized and prompt with quizzes and tests. Review class notes and textbook notes and you will pass. Overall i just love him bc of his personality!

Don't be fooled by some of the comments on here. Toma was a great teacher. Show up to class and pay attention and you will EASILY make an A or B. He gives up to 30 bonus points throughout the semester, and will specifically tell you what he expects from his students. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
My problem with him is that it was supposed to be a beginners course ( intro into management ) but he feels the need to make it way more complicated than that. I wouldn't take this class with him I know there aren't many teachers for this course but I would take anyone but him if I could go back. If he's you last option drop this class.
Mr. Toma really cares about his students and cares about business mgmt. he wants you to learn this and be able to apply it to your life. there's chapter quizzes about once a week. gives points for attendance and bonuses! if you go to class, pay attention & respect him, you'll be well off. idk why everyone on here says he's awful - he's really not.
Toma's okay. I don't necessarily think he's bad at teaching, but he definitely makes his exams WAY harder than necessary. Asks really random questions to throw you off, so don't study lightly. There's a quiz before every class. He also has a tendency of cutting people off or going with his opinion only. I passed without doing the paper, good luck!
Tough class but as long as you go to every single class and take notes, you will be fine. He gives 25 bonus points, 15 for attendance and 10 for bonus assignments. There is a chapter quiz every exam so make sure to read the chapters before each class. Exams are a little tough but passable (use quizlet, it helps to see what students studied).
Reading ahead is important because he quizzes you on a chapter before you cover it in class (which he will remind you about several times). He also is fair to students who try. He gives multiple bonus chances and gives extra points for attendance. He is a very funny and entertaining person, however LISTEN TO HIS RULES.
He can come off as rude to people for no real reason. Grading was three exams of 100 pts + ten chapter quizzes of 10 pts each, plus optional bonus assignments, but most weren't worth the effort. Bonus also for attendance, so don't miss. Scan the chapter before each quiz. Lots of scantrons, everything is multiple choice, except for some on final.
Quiz before every class, must read the book, mandatory attendance because he lectures on things not in the book but on the test, but all in all he is an excellent teacher. He is what a true teacher should be like. He has full control over his class and makes everyone participate. No excuses and you can't be lazy. Will make you a better student
I am going to start this off by saying DO NOT take this class with this professor. Tests are mainly from his "notes" which are little outlines he writes in the beginning of each class. Attendance is mandatory and no excuses if you miss (had a dr appt and was not excused). Final was way harder than other than other tests. Hard to understand.
Do whatever you can to avoid this professor. The most disrespectful and rude teacher I have had. Attendance is mandatory and he does not accept any form of excuse, including doctor excuses. He enjoys interrupting tests, quizzes with random outbursts. I didn't learn anything from this class, mainly because he doesn't know how to lecture.
If I had to take Alfred Toma again I would leave the University or change my major. I didn't learn a single thing from this professor, the only thing I will ever remember about this class is how rude he was to students the whole semester. His lectures are 90% him rambling how uneducated our generation is and how great of a teacher he is.
He was tough I won't lie. But this is because he truly cares about his students and their future success. Most people writing bad reviews for him don't like that he set a high bar, and expected you to rise up to meet it . If you want to learn something valuable pay attention everyday, and stop by his office, he has a ton of life lessons to share.
Horrible teacher. The only reason his rating is not lower is because he forces students to write good reviews of him on here for him to up their grade (seriously Im not joking). Complains about America and how we are all doomed. Likes to disrespect students in the classroom and speaks to people as if they are stupid. He is very hard to understand and sometimes starts ranting uncontrollably. You have to do a lot of work on the bonuses for 1 or 2 points. I wouldn't advise anyone to take the class.
He starts off as a little intimidating & tough but overall, he is a good professor. Attendance is mandatory & you take a lot of notes. He may be tough but he truly cares about his students. I had anxiety and wasn't able to take the first exam so he pulled me aside after class and let me take it in his office the next day. I learned a lot from him.
He gives you so many reasons to write a bad review. Very demanding for no reason. He does not go into detail because his job "is not to rehash the book". Gives OPTIONAL BONUS assignments but gets upset when people in the class choose not to do it with only 2 days to complete and say the material will be on the test. For your sake, do NOT schedule.

He is lecture heavy and the lectures are very boring and uninteresting. He encourages questions but when we ask, he gets mad/rude for not knowing the answer. would not recommend taking his class
Toma is hard to understand and to follow along. Attendance is mandatory. He gives optional bonus opportunities but gets mad when we don't do them. He also put bonus material on the exam even though the bonus's are optional, which doesn't seem fair. His exams are hard and not always the stuff on the notes or even the book. I don't recommend him.
Listen, I am going to be honest, I didnt take this professor- my roommate did. From what she has told me and the cries i hear while she studying for his test i wouldnt want to. My poor roommate didnt stand a chance, prayers for her she is fine now but its college and we all know how that is, am i right or am i right?? take a different teacher.

This professor is by far the worst I have taken in my entire college career. He always talks about being "concise, precise, and to the point," but is VERY far from that. He beats around the bush when it comes to teaching and lecturing and belittles many students in his class. Would not recommend taking him at all, very unhepful and scatter brained.
class was easy to pass. so it seemed. we switched to online due to COVID. I turned both test in and he said i didnt. I failed the class because he didnt grade them. i emailed him the doc. test. idk wt happen. i would take again because the class was easy, not alot of notes. he expects you to read the book ahead. hes tough no electronics. but easy
He's the worst. I can not stand having to go to his class even one day of the week. He makes sense maybe half of the time in his class and he just doesn't care about people or what anyone besides him says. He is trash if you can take someone else then do it.
Worst professor. Teaches in an extremely broad manner and tests very specifically. Hard to follow what he says and when you do follow, he makes little sense. Class is a joke. Avoid taking him at all cost. He claims his test are easy yet no one made an A in any of the three classes he teaches on the first test. Dont waste your time.
So alot of these comments seem to be from students that just didnt try hard enough. He can be difficult to understand and follow, but he does cover all the material and whats going to be on his test. He will not let you make excuses for yourself and expects you to perform. Don't take unless you have a good work ethic. Very old fashioned guy.
Very knowledgeable but hard to talk to. Makes many mistakes and will tell you youre wrong. That being said hes not the worst professor, just has a really bad attitude towards student and is very combative. If you go to his office hours he's much nicer than in class. Only take him if you want to work hard for your grade.
Professor Toma isnt easy by any means but if you want to learn things youll actually use in the real world, especially regarding entrepreneurship and business, his class is the best. Doing the reading outside of class will make or break you so make sure you get it done before each class.

Alfred Toma is the WORST teacher/professor I have had in my whole entire learning experience. He is truly a hateful man who likes to belittle and embarrass his students. He does not fully prepare students for his tests and then doesn't curve when the highest grade is an 84 B out all sections. If I have to take him again I will leave ULL.
One of the worst professors I've had the displeasure of taking at ULL. His boring lectures tend to be longwinded and broad and they do not adequately prepare you for his tricky tests. On top of that, he is unfriendly to students - often interrupting students and disregarding them. Would not recommend dreading through his class if you can choose.
Seeing these reviews, I was scared to take Professor Toma. But from my experience, he was not the scary mean guy that the reviews described! He tends to repeat the same phrases before and after each class which can get old, but he cares. After each test, he asks how we felt about it and if we have any feedback. Study and you will pass.
Professor Toma is a very disrespectful person. His tone and demeanor 100% discourage a student from asking questions. Very argumentative and combative. Consistently contradicts himself as well as cannot remember what day of the week it is.

I just want to state that if you are reading the negative reviews, they are correct. I tried to give Alfred a chance but he is the most disrespectful teacher I have ever had. His lectures are complete non sense. Always has an attitude, judgement, ego, or something is off. Never would I ever take this class again. "You get the idea" hopefully...
Toma is a tough old guy. He really cares about his students, but his lecture style does not match his exams at all. He and the book are very conceptual, but exams are all analytical. He claims it is all "fair, fair, fair" but fails to meet in the middle. Attend all classes for 15 bonus points which you will need! Study hard, and you should be fine.
Professor Toma is a great guy. Despite the harsh reviews I chose to take his class and I have not regretted it. He's an old school teacher with a great personality. If you aren't soft, take him and you will enjoy it 100%.
Toma is a great guy and cares about his class. If you attend the class and pay attention it won't be hard at all. He is very clear on his grading and gives plenty of resources for you to learn.
The class was difficult, but if you do what he asks of you in class and outside of the class you should do fine on the tests. The textbook is not mandatory, but if you want to do well you should get it and do the assigned reading. Class is very test heavy and there are not very many point opportunities.
Toma is very caring and he wants his students to succeed. That being said his style of teaching made no sense to me and his erratic behavior made me uneasy. My best advice is to keep your phone away, pay attention, make eye contact and answer his questions. He rewards participation and attendance.
Toma is just another professor who can't speak English very well. He also ALWAYS GET AWAY from the lecture and you have a hard time following what he is saying when he goes from story to story and they are all different. He will not allow you to use computers for taking notes. ULL needs to fire Toma ASAP!

Read the book many times before exams, 3 multiple choice exams and some written responses, he gives 2 extra point projects after 1st and 2nd exam. Attendance is mandatory for the first few weeks and you get extra points for attending. Don't be intimidated he is caring for his students and wants the best for them. Really know the info for tests
I don't know why people hate on this guy. He gives bonus assignments, he always has a smile on his face and tries to get his students involved. He knows a lot about the real world involving management. Read the text book and take notes and you should be fine. * He doesn't like phones out* but you shouldn't be in it anyway.

There was only three tests throughout the semester and three bonus point opportunities. He checks attendance every day and pay attention to his lectures. He tried to make them as interesting as possible. Very sweet man, I would take him again.
Refreshingly honest, straightforward, or unconventionally wise.. Do NOT take him if you are either a wilting flower or are not yet a fully grown adult. They don't make em like him anymore and I consider myself fortunate to have taken him.
Hardest teacher in the Management Department at UL! He goes off-topic a lot and is a very tough grader. Toma has a strong accent and says "clear" a lot when it is not clear. He is rude, and no he doesn't read body language well. Lectures are not on the exam all that much so read the book! 1/10 would not recommend.
He is not as bad as some people state, but I would not take him again. He does assign a textbook to read, but you can pass just fine without it. (You can find it for free online anyways). He does have an accent, but you get used to it pretty quickly. I did not enjoy his classes or the material. This class was just to mark off the degree checklist.

Professor Toma has a unique teaching style - engaging but can be erratic. Attend class, participate, and use helpful study tools like Unstuck ai to succeed. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of it.
Toma is an old school professor to a T. No phones in class, eye contact when lecturing, and pretty vocal during his lectures. I overall enjoyed his class and saw it as a semi-challenge at first, but he really makes sure you learn the material, not just hear it. Study consistently and GO-TO CLASS, you'll have no trouble with him.
He's a great person, however sometimes it was hard to understand him during lecture. He really wants you to think about the concepts. Go to every class, and before class do the textbook outlines he puts in Moodle. They really make a difference and help to follow him during class. Do all the bonus opportunities it really helps and boosts your grade.
Toma is a tough professor but if you read the book using his study guide you will do good on his exams. There is 3 exams 100 pts each with a few bonus assignments (2 assignments and attendance). His lectures suck especially the semester I took him he preached about Trump the entire semester. He also shows unrelated videos.
He takes bad comments and improves on himself accordingly. 2 exams and 1 non-cumulative final, each easy to get 80+ on with half a day of studying. Attend every class for a free 15 points! Extra credit isn't worth doing since its worth so little. People complaining about his exam difficulty 100% don't read the book. Oldhead mentality, so take note!
Be ready to take notes and pay attention in class. All of his test are made from his lectures not from the book. He does give two bonus assignments, and will grant up to 15 points EC if you don't miss a day of class. There only 3 test of 100 points each, and those are the only grades in the class besides the EC opportunities.

Book is not required, but test questions come from the book, and he assumes everyone has it. There were 3 tests and no final.
