Coolest Math Man! Great teacher, gives you what is going to be on the tests and details how to do each problem. Also he doesn't make you memorize a ton of formulas, instead includes a sheet of them for tests. Generally, he's pretty funny and very easy going, and very helpful. Take him if you can catch a class before it fills up!

he can be an easy professor. He explains how to work problems & even explains tricks to figuring out problems. He has a great sense of humor and is not a "hand holder" - he encourages usage of the math lab & studying. If you aren't mature enough to study on your own or you don't know the basics like factoring, no professor will be easy.

Great Teacher, no Text Book, He works with you, gives you what you need. Really great Class.

I really enjoy Professor Alvarez style of teaching he brought math to a level that was fun and understable. If you are really struggling with Math you need to enroll in his class.

I LOVED THIS TEACHER! He helped with any questions you have, actually TEACHES how to use the calculator and how to use the shortcuts. I had taken and withdrawn from 4 other math classes prior to taking Alvarez, got an A on the first try. He runs off worksheets there is no textbook use at all!

He's really great. I am horrible at math (or at least I hate it). But hes funny and smart. He makes everything easy. I actually liked going to math class for once. If you dont like math or cant get it take him. No home work, just 4 tests all semester (including final). I failed this class before i took him now im making 90s on my tests!

Great "Professor"~ as he deserves to be called! Had him in 302,303,and 1314! Make no mistake, he is a genius when it comes to teaching, especially those that are intimidated with Math. I have been to St. Phillips for Math & Palo Alto.. and true story: I started at the lowest of the low, Math 0300,0301,0302,0303(Took it 5 times,303) I passed all of it with C's.. Until I met Alvarez, he made it easy..passed with a B! He made Math fun!.. Best teacher HANDS DOWN!

This is an amazing teacher. You'd be doing wrong by not taking him. Once he gets to know you, he will be like a father. I had him for College Algebra, Pre-Cal, and Statistics! Did great in all of them and learned a great deal. If he were a hotel I'd give him 5 stars.

A pretty good teacher overall. Does not write out all steps when working out problems so make sure u ask for help when needed,otherwise he assumes u understand. Willing to help u when needed. Study, do the homework, and take notes & u should pass. Gives u time to write problems out after he works them out so u can pay attn when he explains steps.

I took Pre-cal with him and it was the easiest class. I dont like math but with this teacher i really understood. Tests are multiple choice (he tries to trick you by changing signs) but if you just pay attention you will pass

Mr. Alvarez is a great teacher and I would highly recommend him to anyone who is frightened of math. He gives you the material he wants you to know. He also has websites with examples to help too. (I missed some classes so this was helpful) You do not need a textbook, just a graphing calculator which you can borrow from the Math Lab.

he teaches 303 302 a college algebra . I SUCK AT MATH REAL BAD!!! i passed 302 and 303 with C's cuz i took other teachers with spanish accents and they hadyou memorize every damn formula. It was a pleasure taking his class. His explanation of the material was simple, concise, and direct, I had little to no problem understanding the material. His funny unorthodox style really worked for me. He manages the anxiety in his classroom with ease. I would only say that he needs to update his cyber material(windows)for home studying.

Professor is definitely user friendly for those of us who have been avoiding math for years! He can definitely help you to pass this class. His examples are not broad, very specific so you learn to pass the test. If you're a math major or need a strong math background however, I would recommend someone more challenging. But def a great prof!

I took Elementary Algebra with Mr. Alvarez at 7 A.M. and as anyone would not be thrilled to be up that early for math it was so worth it! I passed his class with an A and he makes class funny and makes sure you understand the problems by going over them until you get each one. He's an outstanding professor!

During the summer of 2014 I was a student in Mr. Alvarez's summer I class. The class pace is moderate and everything is repeated-until you get it. For the Fall of 2014 I enrolled for his College Algebra I. Mr. Alvarez has a way of taking everyday experiences and relating them to Algebra!

My weakest subject was math and Mr. Alvarez helped me pass with an A. He teaches in a way by telling you a funny story so when you're taking your test just remember his story and it will all come back to you. he dumbs it down for you. gives you practice tests. If you study the problems on the practice tests, you will pass.

of Alvarez is phenomenal he only teaches the tests and no homework. If you pay attention because he walks through each problem step by step you will pass. His teaching style is really laid back and very down to earth.

Prof Alvarez takes the fear out of algebra. His teaching style helped me to understand algebra. I really enjoyed his application of real life situations to mathematical systems. He is a product of the south side of San Antonio and a credit to his profession. He is the epitome of selflessness and giving back to his community.

After being out of school for years I took his one week refresher and he brought me up to speed. When i had questions he would answer them and made sure i understood them. Hes an awesome professor and Im signed up for his 1314 course next semester. Takes the fear out of College Algebra.

So after hearing all these good reviews and getting recommended to taking his class I'm glad I did it was very helpful. He talks kinda fast but hey you''ll catch up. He was very easy and I also actually learned after being out of math class for two years. I recommend this class 100%

Prof Alvarez made Algebra not scary. I couldn't believe how much I looked forward to coming to a math class. I especially like how he related the problems we worked to actual situations that they will face in their lives with regards to calculating interest in determining mortgage rates, buying a car, etc... Math has always been a struggle for me. I actually started to feel that I would never get to College Algebra and that would cost me getting a degree. Then Prof. Alvarez came along and he was a Godsend!! Not only did I finally understand algebra I made an A! He keeps us engaged as he lectures and I love his "old school" chalk & blackboard!

I finally overcame the fear and this professor made me enjoy math and I have no struggle with the problems for the practice tests. *hint hint* Same problem only difference is the numbers. He's a funny professor I just finished his 0310 class and start 0320. He explains every problem with detail, and does multiple examples to make sure you understand. Every now and then he will get side track but his stories are worth listening too just because they are funny. But his tests are easy, he doesn't give homework, I highly recommend him.

I AM HORRIBLE AT MATH!! It has always been my WORST subject. I ended the semester with an A. He gives out packets that you will study together in class. They literally mimic what the test will look like so study those packets. NO HOMEWORK which was the best part! His lectures are funny sometimes. TAKE HIM you won't regret it! :)

I'm horrible at math I've failed it 3 times, I was finally able to get into Mr. Alvarez class flex class, best choice I've ever made. I passed with an A. Study his practice test they are the exact same thing as the actual test just different numbers. Super easy A if u study the notes. I would totally take him again.

This professor is very outgoing and it's a joy to be in his class. He will go over the math questions over and over until everyone understands it. He will be there all class time on the same question if he has to. The test can be very difficult so make sure you study before-hand!!

No need to buy a books or software, he passes out worksheets every week and practiced those equation in class. He's a tough grader, No extra credit is given. if you did poorly that mean you didn't try or study enough. His class is overall easy if you work at it. I have been out of school for awhile so I was a little worried about having to take a math class. Mr. Alvarez gives you step by step instructions on how to do all the math problems. He also has a website that you can refer to if you fall behind. He goes fast but I would just write everything down and review it later. I would take him again.

This is the math professor you want. He is super easy; he lets you use calculators and formula sheets. He will drop your lowest test score. There is no reason someone should fail his class. He explains very well and if you do not understand a problem he has no problem telling it in a different way.

Alferdo is an hilarious and amazing math professor. He shows you step-by-step process and gives you many examples. He shows you want is going to be on the test and give you review(s) exactly what going to be on the test but just with different numbers. HIGHLY recommend if you struggle with math.

Amazing professor. He teaches in a way that makes it really easy to follow. He gives 15 points of extra credit on each test. Tests are 25 questions and you answer 20 to make a 100. The remaining five questions are three points each.

Took 310&1314 Flex with him. 3 tests multiple choice & the final which you have to fill in the answer yourself. Drops your lowest test grade & replaces it with your final grade. Outstanding professor. He does not give homework & does not give assignments to do on MyMathLab. Only assignments we do are in class. I struggle in math and he was able to help me understand it so much more than any other professor Ive taken, you just have to be willing to listen. I would definitely take him again if I have the chance.

Class is very easy and he will review anything you don't understand. His class is fun and you will learn a lot! One thing is he is a bit fast for you to try on your own and compare answers but either way you still got the right answer.

He is very funny and the class is easy as long as you follow along with what he does on the whiteboard as he works in packets. He works through each question in the packets (usually about 25 questions) and sometimes does the same question but with different numbers for a little more experience for you.

Taking his class was the best decision. The class is easy if you pay attention, you can easily get lost so don't skip class! No homework, but its good to practice over so the lectures will be easier. Passed the class with an A.

I took Professor Alvarez for my math Flex I & Flex II for 0320/1314 and got an A for 0320 & B for 1314. I took with class before (not a flex) and failed it terribly! Alvarez strategy of how he teaches is nothing like Ive ever seen and all I can say is the teacher MATTERS. He goes over the criteria until everyone gets it and makes it seem just easy

Great professor! He won't move on if he feels like you're not participating, so stay connected. MAKE SURE TO HAVE ALL OF YOUR MATERIALS OUT, ESPECIALLY THAT MACHINE! (calculator, TI-83/84) His reviews are similar to his exams, he just switches the numbers. His classes fill up fast if that tells you anything. Take him if you need credit for 1314!!!

AMAZING! He curves his test so you have a higher chance at passing, 4 test total. The exams are the same to the reviews (sometimes changes the numbers) I definitely recommend taking him!

Awesome teacher, and to anyone struggling with finding a great class, take his. He only grades three tests, and has a final exam the whole semester. Reviews are same as tests, different #s. PROS: Attendance not mandatory, no homework or textbook, can use a calculator in class as well as on exams, and a total of 3 exams (multiple choice) and of course the final, which is not multiple choice, but still easy! If college algebra is the only math credit that you need, Alvarez is the guy for you! Absolutely recommend online course!! I was worried because I'm not great at math and I've taken this course before with another professor and was overwhelmed by the work and tests but this professor only has 3 test and 1 final online that you gotta complete and he provides his own videos on how to work out the problems on YouTube.

Excellent professor in the classroom. He caught us how to do college level algebra in an efficient and interactive way. If you cant do math this is the Professor you want.

One of the best professors I've had. Hilarious guy, makes class so fun and actually got me to understand the material. Highly recommend, but his classes fill up quick if you ever get lucky enough to have him.

There's no way you can fail. If you need college algebra credit, take him! You will learn a lot and he is a funny guy who relates math to real world scenarios. He loves to talk about Whataburger and cruising down military!! :)

I had taken math a few times and had failed every attempt. I was very intimidated by all the confusing formulas. Previous professors weren't very helpful, this was not the case with professor Alvarez. He was able to break down all the formulas in an easy to understand format. I was able to excel in the coursework and received A+. Great Prof.

Professor Alvarez was the best! He took time to go over the problems waiting for everyone to get on the same page of understanding. He used real life examples to help us understand and breakdown the formulas and problems. I highly recommend this professor to anyone who needs College Algebra. You won't regret it!

TAKE PROFESSOR ALVAREZ!! I am extremely terrible at math, and Professor Alvarez makes it IMPOSSIBLE to fail his class. He cares about his students, and offers real life examples to grasp formulas with a little bit of quirky. His Youtube videos helped A LOT if you still are confused with the material. I cannot say this enough TAKE HIM!!

Professor Alvarez is an amazing professor! If students rated low is because it was on them, they were probably looking for someone to blame other than themselves. No way you can fail this class if you show up and put in your effort! Math is not my strongest but I understood and passed my final with a 100! all thanks to Alvarez!
