Intelligent Instructor, but had a hard time explaining things clearly
No Comments
the highest grade on midterm was a D didn't test on what was taught
Excellent teaching for a course naturally hard.
pased the harder of the two and couldnt figure out what this guy wanted
No Comments
Very funny teacher, and easy to relate to. Class instruction very important.
Great stories during class. Very smart guy.
final grade was made up of only two tests and the tests were very hard all essay
supposed to be an introductry course, but he is teaching at a graduate level... Do not take this course with him,,,,
Brilliant Guy. Pain in the arse teacher. TOO smart for GRCC. Two tests and they're both incredibly hard. Good stories, but dont take his class...I dropped my first class ever because of him. No chance for mistakes!!!
Very hard, very intelligent. I didn't think I was going to pass...however, ended up with a C+. I didn't even have the book and missed a few classes.
Tested on details that were not taught. 2 Very hard tests. Completely unsatisfied with professor. Only passed because he couldnt fail the whole class.
I thought the subject was very interesting till 2 weeks into the class. Very intelligent but taught economics on a graduate level. Made students feel very small when questions where asked that he felt were stupid. Tests are very hard. Not very clear.
this teacher was the hardest and worst ive ever had
Nice guy. He's definitly teaching this subject at a graduate level. The subject became to complicated for a beginners course in econ. I strongly do not recommend his course if you care for your GPA. All essay tests. You need to be prepared if you dare go!
I really like this guy. The tests are buggers. I didn't feel belittled asking questions in class. Night class so I was usually one of the few that were awake but I got my money's worth.
This guy is real funny in class. He starts the class real hard but gets easier as the semester goes on. Gives Extra Credit to those who need help. Tests are hard though. Loves class participation.
Great guy, very funny and energetic even for our night class. Way too intelligent for a community college though. First test was hard, but he'll give extra credit to help you pass. Uses real life concepts well to help remember text book concepts.
I think that Ali Erhan is a smart person that know's econ. like the back of his hand. But when it comes teaching; he can't. We have three test and each of them consisting on more than five chapters. His class is overwhelming. I think a "C" in this class is an "A" in my book.
No homework! Read two chapters per week. Three multiple choice tests heavy on math formulas instead of theory. Gives questions to study from. Offers extra credit. I thought I would flunk but ended up with a B-. Ties hard to help you understand.
This guy is great! He's funny, he's intelligent, and he actually can teach. It is a hard class and the tests are essay and his teaching level is up there but don't be wary of the other comments. Take him if you get the chance.
A very charismatic and excellent professor. Extra credit was available in our micro-economics class, so there is some flexibility in grading. I'd say in recent memory Ali is my favorite professor I've had.
Professor Erhan is awesome! Economics is the worst class I've ever had to endure, but if you don't understand something he will stay after class till you do. Yes, he gives essay tests, but he gives you all the questions in advance. He knows his subject and makes you know it to pass his class. Great professor, crappy subject :)
You'll need to really pay attention to the graphs as you're reading through the book, he tests heavilly on them. He is a very fair professor with a real passion for this subject. He was funny and interesting during lecture. You will work hard for your grade, but it is worth it in the end.
This teacher is energetic, but that is all he has going for himself... I only took the class up to the first quiz, that quiz requires you to know graphs and equasions like the back of your hand. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you cant easily learn and retain very detailed information. Working knoledge of the graphs and equasions makes or breaks you.
I took this class over the summer and I thought this prof was wonderful. He is a little hard, meaning you have to study. However, He made the class very interesting. I think everyone should take his class.
This guy is an awesome teacher. Very knowledgeable in his field. If you are trying to take an easy class this is not the one. If you are trying to learn economics well he is your man.
His class was not the easiest I have taken, but he offered lots of extra credit. And helped me when i needed it. He is Fair and well versed economics.
Mr. Erhan is an awesome teacher, he really knows economics. I didn't even really know what economics was when I signed up for this class, but he made it so interesting that I am taking 252 this semester. No homework, only tests, read the chapters and know graphs... that's it!
Great teacher. He doesn't have the easiest tests but he lets you know what is on the test. No homework at all. Easy class if you show up and pay attention. You might want to study a little bit too.
He is a great prof. So funny and personable and EXTREMELY knowledgeable. It was much more difficult than I had expected, but I was challenged and learned SO much more than the average CC class that I'm used to. His stories are intriguing.
The single most retarded class structure ever! Bases everything off 4 quizzes, and extra credit is practically non-existent. His lectures suck and they are worthless when it comes to quiz time. This class sucks! Stay Far Away!!!!!!!!!!
smart guy, knows his econ! horrible teacher! doesnt know how to dynamically teach a complicated subject to students who are new to econ, dont take hhis class, its cut throat, find a nice teacher who can teach and not talk at you as if he were reading radio instructions.
There is nothing positive about this class. He is a horrible teacher whose LONG lectures have nothing to do with the tests! I would not reccomend this teacher to anyone.
He definately knows what he's talking about. He is straightforward from the start, 4 quizes 25 points each. The quized were short answer. Know the material and your fine. Offered a ton of extra credit oppertunities. He definately made his class not nearly as boring as I thought economics would be.
His lectures were intresting and not as boring as I thought. His homework assignment will kill you, especially if you take this class during summer. Around 100 problems for each chapter. His quizes were not that hard and there was no extra credit in my class. If you love puttin gin the extra effort, go for him. Otherwise stay away!
STAY AWAY! DO NOT TAKE HIM! I don't know what these ppl are talking about, I had to teach my self everything for the test, nothing he said was even on it! the tests are multiple choice, and he sends like 600 questions to you, the average grade in our current class is a 69% if that tells you anything, and he barley speaks English! He is funny th
I was gonna drop this class, but he offers a huge extra credit, and the exams are all memorization of graphs from these reviews he sends. His lecture has nothing to do with test, I didn't even go to class, because it is all on those graphs...You can get an A though, so I would take it
This class is not for people who want to slack off. If you don't need it, I wouldn't take it. The only reason I stayed with it, was because I needed it for my major and I didn't feel like wasting money. It's a really tough class, but it's possible to make it out with a decent grade.
While I have no doubt in my mind that Mr. Erhan is a brilliant man (he DOES teach master's/doctoral level classes elsewhere, after all), I think he has some serious trouble teaching community college dullards such as myself. His tests come out of nowhere and have no bearing whatsover on the material covered in class. STAY AWAY!
This teacher is hard, take notes, use the text, (maybe even get mentoring) if you want to ace this class.
EVIL!!!!! DO NOT TAKE. This guy gets off on people failing, he found the fact that someone got a 1.5 out of 20 histerical. His tests are impossible and he marks you down for the slightest deviation from the textbook definition. In addition, his tests go way further in depth on the subject than he attempts to prepares you for. most evil teacher ever
Great teacher and is very knowledgeable. Quizzes and homework is pretty hard but if you pay attention in class and study you will do good.
He does go fast in class, his test are hard, you should listen anyways UR paying 4 it, do the xtra credit. I was going to drop but stayed and got out w/C. We had 36 to start, finished with 12. He's not for stupid people. Have some common sense. Be open minded participate in class, you'll retain more info.
He is a really great guy, don't get me wrong, but I just don't really think he is cut out for teaching. He goes way too fast and the tests have nothing to do with what he taught in class. I have a 3.8 gpa and I dropped this class!
One of the best professors I had. I had him for Economics 256 and 257. The class is a lot of work but if you try and study you will do good. Very knowlegable. Before I took this class I didnt care about economics but when I had him...Economics became very interesting.
He's a nice guy, however I would NOT take his class unless you already have a high level of understanding of Economics. Personally I think he might be over qualified to be teaching this, and as a result he teaches the class as if it's a graduate course instead of Macro Econ. I had to drop it because I couldn't understand him.
Great advanced teacher. He seems to have a hard time understanding the community college level agenda. This class is supposed to be an introduction to macro, but he applies algebra and applied economics to the equation, which makes it a very difficult summer class. If your math and critical thinking skills are not up to par do not take this class.
If you take notes and pay attention you will do fine. I was really interested in the lectures and I had no interest in econ before taking this class. He tells you exactly what will be on the quiz so you can study. even though it was hard I would take a class with him again because I did learn a lot.
He sure knows his stuff and if you don't take notes, go to every class and study your butt off you'll never make it. People that say he is a bad teacher are just slackers and he can smell BS from a mile away. I went to him for questions and help and he did everything to help me and other students. Best advice...form a study group.
He expects a lot but, overall he is a good teacher. Economics is hard as it is to understand. If, you are lost speak up because he will be willing to discuss and most of my classmates were just as lost as I was.
Dr. Erhan's lectures were very organized, clear cut, and interesting. He's a great professor and a fair grader, and I really enjoyed his class.
Horrible class! PLEASE do not take this class unless you live for Econ. The class rarely followed the book, and you can't miss a single class. Prof. Erhan knows his stuff, but isn't a great teacher. Unless you've taken calculus and plan to get an MBA in Econ! If you love Econ, you'll love him. If not, go with another teacher.
The best teacher ever!!!He is very helpful and makes time go by flying. He is fun and is always willing to help. If you want to learn, take him.
You have to attend every class, take notes and study, but he has the most concise presentation that i have ever seen at GRCC. He goes over exactly what you need to learn, never repeats himself and his accent (he is from turkey) is not pronounced. good class.
If I ever read the words 'Define and Graph" on a test again it will be too soon. His notes are very indepth but do not always match the book. Has a tendency to appear agitated if you ask him to repeat calculation more than once during class. I went to every class, spend 8 hours/week studying on this class alone.
I already have a Bachelor's Decree in the Social Sciences and am a returning student to broaden my teaching certification. Professor Erhan's class is easily the most difficult course I have ever taken (and I graduated Magna Cum Laude from GVSU). Be prepared to spend hours studying. If you struggle in mathematics or the social sciences avoid him
I am a HS teacher adding on to my teaching endorsement. If you struggle with math and/or social studies, he is not the man to take. He is knowledgable, thorough and concise in his presentation. Be prepapred to work hard if you take him for MICRO ECON. I'm proud of the B- I got in his class, b/c I know I worked for it.
Tough class! I got an A but I worked my rear off. My advice is TAKE GOOD NOTES! Most of the material on the test comes directly from notes. Tests are all essay & graphs which makes the class so hard. He is a great teacher though! Great sense of humor and is super smart!
Extremely connected in the community. If you want a high paying job in GR, get on his good side!! Prof is extremely specific in his lectures. Take meticulous notes, DO NOT miss a class, know EVERY graph. Will not explain himself, so pay attention. Once I got into a study group & figured out how to read his teaching style it was a breeze.
Brilliant man. Will go above and beyond for you after you prove yourself, but has no time for slackers. Work hard, paticipate, and join a study group (you'll get brownie points). Take meticulous notes, DO NOT miss a class, know EVERY graph. Will not explain himself, so pay attention. TAKE EC 251&252 WITH HIM! YOU WILL BREEZE THRU THE 2ND CLASS!
Didn't enjoy teacher. Tests were hard and sometimes questions were on the test I didn't feel like we even went over. Know all graphs and get ready to study your ass off.
This instructor is tough. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you miss a class, you will miss a lot of content. When in class, take LOTS of notes. Create your own study group as the tests are not easy. The positive is that if you do these things, you WILL have a much clearer understanding of macro-economics. This class is not for slackers.
Professor has great insight. The lessons were detailed, and his style of teaching was fun. Every class is important so do not miss a session. He doesn't use the BlackBoard system, but he does make it very easy to track your grade. I recommend him as a teacher because his personality was so much fun!
He is amazingly overqualified to teach this class. If you take good notes, pay attention to the graphs and their applications and do NOT procrastinate on his major paper you will do fine. If it has been awhile since you've taken a basic math course, take those first. He is very good at his job and has very high expectations of his students.
I took these courses because they were required. Because of life situations I had to witdrawl from one and only passed with a C+ on the other. You need to pay 110% attention during his lectures which isnt hard because he is funny and quite entertaining. After leaving his class I had to change my major to finance it was so good.
Very tough teacher, but at the same time an incredibly interesting class. Plan on studying at least 6 hours a week to succeed in this class and especially memorizing any graphs covered in class. Would definitely recommend as long as you have a good work ethic
Not a good teacher and his communication skills lacked. Also this teacher does not utilize blackboard which hard when you are communicating with your student. Lastly Dr. Erhan class was hard and does offer many oppourtunties where may lack in the class. Clarity can be confusing when doesn't explain topic fully .
He offers his students 4 test grades and 5 homework grades & those are the only points possible for the semester. There are 100 points total the whole semester. He will give you a list of what you need to study for the tests. I easily studied 10-15 hours for each test and ended the course with a B. Most challenging class of my associates degree.
If you attend all classes, study A LOT, and do college level work you can do well in his class. Sleep, slack off, and try to skate by and you WILL fail. This is a REAL college professor and he does not cut corners. I loved the class. Would take him for macroeconomics if I could.
Professor Erhan has taught me more than any other professor at GRCC. He is super funny and relates his stories to the course. Do the homework and study hard for the tests. Memorize ALL graphs! I studied almost 15 hours for every test. Took him for EC 251 and 252. You will get your money's worth! I definately would take another one of his clases!
Erhan is truly a genius in worldwide economics and business, use that to your advantage. Hbest prepared to work for your grade and take perfect notes, he is tough on grading. Aside from a difficult class and his strict grading, he is energetic, upbeat, funny and an open book of knowledge. Get on good terms with him, great contact to have!
Professor Erhan is a wonderful individual. He's VERY informed on the topic of Economics. I think he teaches at a higher level economics than the class is supposed to be taught at. Prepare to put in a TON of hours on homework, and visits to the tutor center will probably be a MUST if you've had no prior economics experience.
I used to like him. As the semester went on, I grew more and more frustrated with him, mostly bc you never know what will be on the test. Don't listen to what he says will be on it bc it's never accurate; you'll end up like me, studying hours for sthg that didn't show up and having to write about sthg we barely (or not at all) mentioned in class.
I definitely learned a lot from that class. He is a great prof, not always clear however. Expect a good amount of homework (especially for Spring Break) and be ready to pay attention and to attend every class or you will fail. For sure.
Dr. Erhan is the type of contact that will get you a six figure job just by having him as a friend on your LinkedIn profile. He definitely doesn't need to be teaching at all, much less a community college. The man was in part responsible for a drastic economic rise during the Clinton administration - do not underestimate his knowledge of economics!
This class was by far my favorite class I have ever taken. I took a summer macro-econ with him before my high school senior year. Because it was an accelerated class, there was no papers - only tests and homework. Write-down everything he says and memorize graphs. I hope to take another class with Dr. Erhan, he is truly a brilliant man.
Dr. Erhan is a pretty funny guy. His knowledge of economics is simply brilliant. However, his lectures move very quickly and you must spend hours outside of class to do well. The textbook is optional, but if you want an A, get it, and do your homework in the business lab. It is definitely possible to succeed, but you must work for it.
Dr. Erhan is very enjoyable. I am not a huge fan of economics, but I thoroughly enjoy his classes. He is very experienced and knowledgeable. After taking Micro with him, I made sure I had him again for Macro. Pay attention to his lectures, they are more important than the book.
Great prof. Really knows what he is talking about.
One of the best professors I have ever had! He definitely knows what he is talking about. He always makes sure you understand the lecture! We also go over a practice test before the day of the test which is really helpful. And always record your lectures!
Dr. Erhan is an amazing professor. The course was tough, by Prof. Erhan made it enjoyable. His lectures are pretty solid to say the least and at the end of each lecture he typically will tell you what's going to be on your test and gives you time to write down what to study. He also will make time for students when requested.
Erhan knows his stuff and wants his students to learn. He's funny and caring. Make plans in advance, and he's flexible if you need to miss a class and make up a test. YOU NEED TO STUDY. He gives 5 tests, 20 pts each, based on their own chapters. The loudest (most annoying) students complained. Study seriously, use tutoring lab and you'll do fine.
Attendance is not mandatory, but he covers alot of material that is used on tests and homework assignments. Lectures and answered class questions were very helpful. You can pass without textbook use, but he refers to it frequently and if you don't understand something during lecture, it is always in the book (which was free anyways).
Ali is a suspected Arson and Slumlord. I wouldn't take a business class from him
Not accessible outside of class, and doesn't respond to emails. He is very unorganized and doesn't use Blackboard, so it is hard to anticipate (especially online) when an assignment will become available or when it will be due (due dates not on the syllabus.) Would not take him again, and definitely wouldn't recommend it.
Great professor, he funny and really knows his stuff! Stick to the study guides and you'll be fine!
Prof. Erhan is a very knowledgeable guy on microeconomics but his class is very hard and confusing. I am not the biggest fan of the professor or how he teaches but be willing to study hard and read a lot and get ready for tough tests.
He isn't so great about getting back to you on emails or grading in a timely manner. The assignments are easy so that's why I would take it again. A slow grader is always tough. The class is fine for what it is.
I would NEVER take him again. He is very book smart BUT that causes him to have the biggest ego ever. He will argue to death on being right in any situation. He is also terrible at responding to any questions you have & will direct questions to your classmates to respond instead of himself. Overall worst professor experience Ive ever had.
Prof. Erhan is definitely accomplished. He makes this clear from the very first day of class, he takes that same ego into every class thereafter. Talks down to students constantly. If he feels like it- he will make it clear that he thinks they're an idiot. I would only recommend his classes to my worst enemies, because they will absolutely suffer.
Erhan might be one of the absolute worst teachers I have ever encountered. Unclear lectures, making students who ask clarifying questions feel bad, lying about what will and will not be on the test, as well as being straight up wrong about basic facts (Federal Reserve Act was in 1913, not 1912, moron). He's also a suspected arsonist as well.
Ali was actually one of my favorite professors. For the first time I actually learned something and yes, it was a 3 hr class but you actually learn. If you listen you'll pass... that's it.
The class is not too difficult, but the professor can be a hit-or-miss. Engage with the material, use the free textbook, and try unstuck ai for extra study help. Grading can be slow, but the assignments are manageable. Overall, it's a decent course if you put in the work.
I did not enjoy this professor at all. his class was so difficult. He stood by my desk n watched me take everything off my desk, eventually he grabbed my stuff and put it on the floor n said "there we go". I asked if I could listen to music as I tested n he said no. A student came in after me and put on their headphones. Not a word was said to him.
