Heavily relies on eCampus and will post assignments not mentioned in class as late as 3 hours before he expects them due. Always check eCampus the NIGHT before class. Good luck understanding his lectures, too.
Puts all of his assignments on eCampus and sends emails the day before class with homework to be completed before that class meeting time. When you ask him for help he says either: 'you should know this already' or 'that is not my job/department, go to extra help.' Strict, rude, and impatient. Doesn't use the textbook, everything is online.
I have taken engineering courses ever since high school and even the worst teacher there puts the way he teaches the ENG111 class to shame. The TA's have higher overall lecture time than him yet he expects all the students to understand everything perfectly the first time. If you email him about anything you will promptly get your head bit off.
He doesn't explain the material clear enough. His lectures are too vague. He rarely provide specific examples to the topics we cover in the class. During the second part of the course (MATLAB) he does not even teach the class. TA's will give lectures over the MATLAB. Expect quizes every class. He assigns a lot of homework.
Here's the deal, Dr. Oz was a nice guy and loved engineering but he was your classic research professor (not there to teach but more to pursue research at the university). The class was boring, test were difficult, half the people slept in class, and the information was very unclear. Find a different professor if you can.
zeros on RAT tests and FRQs are not the end of the world, missing homework is
I don't think 111 is a class that is really teacher based as you mostly just follow directions on ecampus and work with your group. If you ask for help he will help you. The rating doesn't really portray him as a professor, he isn't that bad and I wouldn't avoid him if the class fits your schedule.
Dr. Ozmetin teaches a really tough class. I struggled at first, but Dr. Ozmetin's lectures and group projects helped so much. He is a really smart guy, and cares about his students.
If you do the work and go to class you will do well. He always responded to my emails promptly and was ready to help. Overall, I think he was a great prof.
Doesn't help at all. Basically, you and your team members have to learn the entire class material by yourself.
It kind of sounds like most ENGR 11 professors are pretty similar. Dr. Oz is a nice guy who cares, but is a little absent minded with this class, expects you to completely understand every little thing he mentions, even some things he forgets to mention. Most of this class depends on you group and the GA in your class. Not the worst, not the best.
This wasn't a hard class to do good in, but he was a tough professor to have. I didn't have any problems with him and he was helpful whenever I asked for help, although others may have had different experiences. Not a bad professor to take at all; definitely less work than any other ENGR111 course.
He's very hard to understand being that he's from Turkey, and he doesn't really help much
Dr. Oz isn't very helpful. He gets frustrated if you need more help on a topic. Very unclear and due dates are always up in the air. Not too difficult of a class. Not looking forward to 112 in the same class. Good thing is 111 book is used for 112.
Look for lots of outside class help if you want to pass. His class is not engaging nor is it easy to focus. Sure, I got a good grade but this class felt like such a waste of time. Pick any other engr 112 prof.
He is terrible at actually explaining what is needed or how to do anything, do not take him as a teacher.
Not helpful at all. His explanations in lecture make no sense.
He wasn't very clear and I had a hard time paying attention during class. I would not have gotten through this class without help from my group and friends. During demos, he is very impatient and heavily critical. I didn't pick this prof, I just went for the time slot. My mistake.
He is only teaching because he wants to continue his research. The lectures are boring and hard to understand. The only positive is that he is a really easy grader when it comes to the projects. I had him for 111 and 112 made As both times. If you want to pass the test just go to SI sessions hosted by other profs.
He gave a lot less work and was more understanding than the other 111 and 112 professors. He is a good and caring professor, the reason he has bad reviews is because he teaches a difficult class, not because he is a bad professor.
Gets bad rep b/c its a tough class. Overall he really cares about kids. I would go ask him questions and he would really take his time explaining to make sure I understood. He's very well competent and understands the material. Ask questions and actually talk to him, he's a great guy and great teacher.
I really enjoy Dr. Ozmetin. The class gets progressively harder as you approach MATLAB so be prepared for this. His lectures are informative and funny. He is a nice caring guy who is willing to help if you're nice and respect him. Once you get to MATLAB lectures are shorter because there's a lot of hands on work and learning, but he's there to help
I had him for 111 and he was terrible but it seemed like he got better so I took him for materials science and these people are wrong. This guy is the worst professor that I have taken so far and will probably be the worst professor that I had in college. Bad lectures, bad tests, stay away from this guy at all costs.
I took him for materials science. He's a nice enough guy, tries to keep the class engaged during lecture, but the tests are terrible. Be ready to read five chapters for a single test, only to forget a few facts he asks you for on the test, and get massive points taken off. They do not test your general knowledge; just your memorization.
He doesn't do much for the class. Lectured in the very beginning of the semester but then slowly stops and just stays on his computer. Get to know the TA's if you take his class. They will be the ones teaching you.
Dr. Oz is a great professor. Sometimes you will have to learn topics on your own, but asking questions is welcomed and more than makes up there. Class relies heavily on group projects. As long as you pay attention, do the work, and make an effort to understand the material you will be fine.
10/10 Would recommend. He's a great guy. All his Rats are super easy because you can use your resources which includes internet, notes. He doesn't give out much homework like the other professors. Usually they are optional for any of the MATLAB assignments. He doesn't give out Check for Understanding at the end of the class. He's so nice!!!!
Read the textbook, no need to show up for class. This class was very easy and you get a ton of cheat sheets to use on the exam. He gives up to 4% extra credit and he curves the class. TOO EASY! Plus 30% of the final grade is homework, which is extremely easy and straightforward. Loved this class.
Good guy and he definitely knows what he is talking about. His TA was just there to do research and he needs to fix this with his next TA. My one complaint with the class is that the TA gave more lectures than he did. Read the book and you'll do fine. Extra credit and cheat sheets for the tests.
He is one of the better ENGR 111 professors to have IMO. He does not give out that much homework compared to other ENGR profs, and he teaches clearly. Helped me out a lot with Matlab. It definitely helps to have a good group and to go to si sessions. I'm glad that I have him again next semester.
He had 5 TAs for a class of maybe 100 and no listed office hours. I wouldn't say he was a really hands on professor but at least he didn't assign too much homework compared to other engr111 professors.
Great teacher, its engineering so its not going to be easy but probably the best man ever. He curved are class like 10 points at the end of the semester and usually gives you like a week for homework awesome guy, takes to time to get use to him but best teacher ever easily
The professor is kind and will help you before and after class. He gives cheat sheets on the exams and 4% extra credit, plus a little curve at the end of the semester based on class performance. Exams consist of problem solving from the homework and small details from the textbook and lecture. Generally people do worse on the 2nd Exam.
It's a large class with lots of programming. You get assignments and do them with little guidance from him, but there are plenty of TA's to help. He's nice and the workload is lighter than other professors I've heard off. Hard for anyone to do well in this class alone. Look to friends and tutoring for some help.
Kind of boring when he lectures, but he tries to minimize the lecture time as best as he can. He gives out much, much less homework than a lot of the other ENGR 111 professors, so if you already are decent at coding then he is a great choice. If you have no experience with computers I don't advise taking him as he is not the best at explaining.
Great Prof, pretty much guaranteed an A or B. Homework is often but its due 1 week before the next class. A lot of group projects, but as long as you know people in the class you'll be fine. TA's pretty much grade the class.
Dr. Ozmetin is one of the better Engineering 111 professors. He definitely has one of the lighter workloads and teaches the material relatively well. However, you do have to teach yourself the majority of the material.
Pretty good ENGR Prof. From what i've heard he is better than the others and i believe it. Lectures are usually short and to the point and he uploads the PPT's. I made a low B but that was due to my lack of trying. TA's helped out as did Dr. Oz . Wish i had been able to get him next semester. 2 exams, group work, & HW. usually given 1 week for both
He's about average. The homework and tests were not really that bad in my opinion, but I showed up with a background in computer programming. He grades tough, or we at least always feared that he does; when needing to present or demonstrate, teams prefer to have a TA do the grading, but there were 3 or 4 TA's in our class, so it wasn't difficult.
Honestly far less work than the other profs. But prepare to be taught almost nothing and pray that you have good TA's. Make sure you learn your MatLab :)
You won't really learn much from him, but compared to other professors he was pretty easy on us when it came to the amount of work he gave us. Also he gave us a week to do everything. Make sure you know matlab because his second exam is cumulative. I didn't pass either exams and still got a B in the class. Honestly wish I put more effort in.
Solid choice. Definitely cares for his students. Tells you exactly what you need to know for the exams. Complete every assignment before the deadline, even if you're not completely finished- do not get lazy because they want to see you try. Not many RATs compared to other professors, but make sure you read zyBooks.
For a class that doesn't really teach you much for your major, he's a good choice. He's not super hard like some other profs and he wants to help you do well. If you try, you'll be fine. DON'T PROCRASTINATE ON YOUR LABVIEW AND MATLAB PROJECTS!! DUN DO IT!! Workload with him is def a lot better compared to others. not as many pop quizzes either.
Didn't really explain concepts well in class. You hear a lot of, "This is easy," and, "You should know this." You'll have to rely on the TAs, so pray that you get good ones. His workload, however, is really good. Not much work assigned. Gives you a week for every assignment. The class is doable with him, but you can do better.
Ozmetin has his pros and cons. Looking for a professor who gives a lighter workload? Look no further. Ozmetin definitely assigns much less work than the other engineering professors. The only con is that his lectures could be a little better, sometimes he doesn't do a great job at explaining new topics. Not too bad a prof. Curves class
If you're looking to learn a lot, you shouldn't take him, but no one takes ENGR 112 to learn. Very easy and lenient grader (except on tests). Although attendance isn't technically required, you do need to show up to do well on exams. The marble sorter project is torture, but fortunately his easy grading makes up for it. Definitely a solid choice.
Coming from 111 and I had an insane course load. Dr. Oz's class was amazing , we had no RATS or CFU's and had 1 hw assignment that we would have a week for. There was at least a 3 point curve in my class
Definitely doesn't give as much course load as other profs which is amazing. He doesn't give much direction on the labs but he gives you a week to do them and you can use multiple resources. This class is super group heavy and you're basically thrown a problem and have to figure out how to solve it so sit next to good people. He's a solid prof!
Dr. Oz is definitely a good teacher if you are looking for a light workload. Although he doesn't fully teach the concepts necessary in order to figure out the weekly labs. Overall he is a good professor if you are looking to get by ENGR 102 and boost your GPA. However if you plan to major in CompSci, I recommend taking someone more rigorous.
Great professor for ENGR 102. Easy grade for overly uninteresting class subject.
Dr. Oz is a great professor! He has a much lighter workload than most of the other professors, yet on the exams, I still did very well. He cares about his students and typically answers emails by the end of the day! He isn't very rigorous and his lectures are not the best, but they are good enough to start off with for most of the assignments.
Although Dr. Oz does not have the best lectures, he is a great professor. He does care for his students and makes sure they are well equipped to handle the labs and exams. There is a multitude of outside resources and talking to Dr. Oz is the best one. Makes the class pertinent and only gives the labs that he deems useful out. Solid 8/10
Dr Oz is one of the easier and nicer ENGR102 professors. With no prior coding experience, I found this class that's 99% programming to be pretty beginner friendly. Although some of the concepts are tricky and can be frustrating, with lots of in class practice you should be okay. Watch out for his somewhat unclear grading criteria though.
With no prior coding experience, Dr. Oz's class was good. He's always more than glad to help you if you ask questions. However, some of the material can be difficult and he'll expect you to read the online textbook. If you stay on top of the assignments and you are diligent during class, you will succeed in his class.
He is probably the best engineering professor you could take at A&M. He only gives 2 quizzes all semester, 2 tests, and weekly labs which are typically group labs. He goes out of his way to ensure you make a good grade, and really cares about his students! 10/10 recommend taking him over others.
Overall not the best professor for this class, but not the worst either. Often he cuts parts of the assignment other sections do because he deems them too difficult, making the class MUCH easier than normal. He does have a couple quirks that you need to get used to, and the grading in this class is very harsh and sometimes random. I learned little.
ENGR 102 is a lot of Python assignments, some individual and some group work. Ozmetin's lectures are good enough that you can understand and learn, but you should be reading the textbook anyways since the activities in the textbook will be a grade of some kind. Also, don't goof off in class and then ask Dr. Oz questions. He doesn't help slackers.
had him for engr 102 and engr 216. He was willing to help if needed. The best part about having him was that he gave a good amount of time to complete assignments so you could learn how to do it without stressing. Mostly learned from zybooks for engr 102. Engr 216 was not very structured and did not have very good lectures.
One of the easier professors for this class.
Compared to the other professors, he was one of the easier ones. Assigned less work as well.
Nice dude, but does not lecture well. Thick accent and goes off topic. You really have to pay attention. As long as you do that and complete your work, you should be fine.
Dr. Oz is one of the best choices for 217. Very little work, easy class but a solid prof. He makes the class much easier than other professors.
About half of your grade comes from your lab reports, and Dr. Oz has them grade more leniently than some of the other professors. He didn't have us do very much homework at all, and if you tried even a little bit you get nearly full credit for it. He's pretty chill, which was a very welcome break compared to other classes.
Dr. Oz is very nice and accessable outside of class. 216 is a Lab so most of your grade comes from the lab reports which the TA grades. Apart from that the hw is very easy and the final was pretty easy too. I would take Dr. Oz again for sure.
Dr. Oz is a very good teacher who really cares about his student. He gives extra credit assignments. HE gives test reviews that will prepare you for the test. He clearly tells you what he expects from you. If you do all the work you should do good in the class.
Guy genuinely cares about students learning. Doesn't make graded material very difficult, and really just earnestly wants you to know what he has to teach. Unfortunately, he's usually stuck with classes that don't matter, so not many take them seriously. Hopefully this doesn't wear out his caring (albeit a bit stern) nature.
Ozmetin is trying his best, but the lectures just aren't that helpful. He gives a small amount of homework, so that is amazing. Hopefully you get good TA's. I joined him on the second week of class since I heard he was easy, and it was worth it. Although, you won't really learn much unless you study the powerpoints.
He is fine. He definitely cares more about Mat Sci than ENGR216. But sometimes he comes off as dry, bored, and not wanting to do any work. I will say he is good at answering questions and being more than willing to go back and reexplain things in class. Not too difficult and not to easy, just average in my opinion on work load and difficulty.
Class was much easier than chem 107. Labs are straightforward and the TAs are helpful. The lecture is boring and the hw is alright.
Dr. O had his own homework assignments at times, which were easier than the homework everyone else had. The lectures were always uploaded, so attendance wasn't mandatory.
Hes good. His lectures are clear and you can tell he cares about what he does. Well organized as well.
Dr. Ozmetin is very knowledgeable, however, he is honestly not the nicest guy. He gets angry when students email him questions and he probably won't give out extensions if you ever ask. I would not recommend for those who tend to email profs heavily or those who have a lot of questions. He does not tolerate nonsense.
He is the best option for the class. Good guy. He gives homework like maybe twice a month and tends to give less work than the other professors. It is an easy A if you do the assignments and do well on the labs, but it kind of depends on your TA. Just don't ask him questions that he already mentioned in emails. He wants to give everyone 100s.
He is a great for phys217 he is very lenient on late work and he gives very clear instructions on homework and other assignments. 10/10 would take
Honestly, I showed up to two of Oz' lectures this semester before realizing I didn't need to - it's a simple course. Any of my frustrations with the class had far more to do with the PTs than Oz himself - he's super chill and makes it very clear what you need to do to get the grade you want. Of the 216/217 profs, he seems like a solid choice.
ENGR217 this semester was a breeze, the lectures for Doctor Oz were optional and all homework except the first one were essays which were completion grades. The labs were the hard part of this sem, the TAs were horrible graders. This review is for people taking this class online, I'm not sure how he works in person.
First of all let me say: the TAs are what make this class easy or hard. They are in charge of 80% of your grade. they can be lax or sticklers That being said Ozmetin is easy for his 20%. almost no homework and the lectures aren't mandatory
Basically never showed up to lectures, or even watched them after. If I needed info it was pretty much always on the slides he posted. Homework was really odd, but never very difficult, mostly just short writing assignments about various types of technology. Can't say much about his in-person classes, but online definitely a good choice.
Do Oz is not the worst but he is also not the best. The only way i would take it again is if there is no final. Not sure about thr previous semesters, but this time with everything onlie the lab was awful. biggest thing i have against this profile is when he says " you should already know this" or " I'm not going to to go through the details".
This semester he has cancelled lecture over 5 times, twice was because he was not feeling well after being vaccinated which I understand but the rest were random. There are 10 units and he only ever gave us homework over the first 3 then gave up, but we still have a final exam after never practicing 7/10 units. No quizzes, not ready for exam.
Class as a whole was pretty unorganized; cancelled lectures multiple times this semester; only gave us 3 HWs (out of 10 total units) the entire semester, which took months to be graded; knowledgeable prof but very blunt which rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. mandatory final exam which he did not prepare us for at all
His lectures are useless as anyone with basic reading skills can read the powerpoints themselves (that's all he really does). He didn't properly prepare us for a final and wasn't much help on the labs. He did the bare min. so be ready to depend on your friends who have instructors that actually do their job to make it through this class.
He canceled lectures multiple times this semester, barely gave out any hw (which I know should be a good thing but trust me, when there's a final, lectures constantly canceled, and a professor who just reads word per word from the slides as if you are illiterate, you would have wished you had hw). Useless and a waste of time. DO NOT TAKE HIM
He asks students to ask questions, but most often when they do he becomes aggressive and says "I just went over that" or "were you not paying attention". He reads off the slides and he isn't always the easiest to understand. He assigned only 3 assignments this semester and for most of them I learned the concepts on my own.
Dr. Oz can come across a little harsh at times, but I don't think he's trying to be rude. He really doesn't like being asked self-explanatory questions or ones that have just been answered. His lectures are clear and they prepare you well for the assignments. The worst part of this class are the lab reports, and they're graded by PTs, not Dr. Oz.
Dr. Oz is what your high school teachers warn that college is going to be like. He hates repeating himself and is blunt to the point of rudeness when being asked questions, sometimes. He canceled lecture a good amount, and we never had homework, so when it came to the final, we were all unprepared. Very little effort needed, though. Roll your dice.
Only assigned 3 HWs the whole semester, which sounds good until you realize there is a mandatory exam; read lectures right off the slides which did not help at all and I basically had to teach myself everything. Often very combative when asked questions; to be fair, some of the questions were "stupid" but that doesn't excuse rudeness
My section met on a Friday afternoon, and we quite literally only had class 4 times the whole semester. Even when in lectures, he was very dry and when asked a question, would go off and tell us to grow up. The final was common, so our section was very behind for it b/c we never had class. I have heard he is better in person, but online don't take
Dr. O is the college professor your high school teachers warned you about. He comes off as rude sometimes, so make sure you follow directions and do not expect him to go out of his way to help you. The labs take a few days to complete, however, they really teach you a lot about making professional lab reports and evaluating data. Go to lectures!
man straight up quit like 2 weeks into the semester lmao
His lectures make absolutely no sense. He'd ask a question, no one would respond, then he'd say "come on guys you should know this" like he didn't just invent a new theorem. The tests were kind of like the review, the final was extremely hard with the most random concepts. Horrible teacher, does not care, I learned nothing.
There were only a few homework assignments the whole semester which made it difficult to practice and learn the information. When I would ask him questions, he seemed annoyed and would give very bland answers. His lectures are just okay but he does not post his slides before the lecture, making it harder to take notes. He did round my 89.4 to an A.
