dr. alikhani is a great teacher but he is hard to understand with his accent at first. He is always ready to help when you need it, and he is also fun in class as well.
A good professor that is willing to provide extra help if you ask- very approachable.
Good teacher... very helpful.

tends to spit forth a lot of formulas and doesn't provide much relevence. also, he stands in front of what he is writing on the board, and you can't see it until he is done with that 5 minutes later.
lectures on how to do certain things, but doesn't show how this is applied to solving problems, etc. nice guy, helpful if you go see him outside of class... just not great in front of the group
Extremely nice guy, always always willing to help. I feel he cares alot about the students and how they do.
Awesome guy! He's taught me so much about Calculus, in and out of his class. I would definitely recommend him for 140 and maybe 141.
if u want a teacher whose goal is to make sure all of his students have a firm understanding of calc 2, he's your man!! once u get over the accent burden, generally in a manner of 1 week...he's a great teacher! ps he writes nice letters of recommend

This class is very easy, if you study for the exams and quizzes. Alikhani also is very good at helping the student if you go in for his office hours.
Not an easy class but the instructor kept a lite mood with his great sense of humor! Very fair and helpfull professor.
The best math teacher in the world. I love math because of this man - take his notes on angel and memorize them. His quizzes are exactly from the notes. Take him!!!!!!!!!!
Alikani speaks broken english however, i can understand him better then any other american math teacher i've ever had. This man knows how to get math across to his students. Thanks Alikani for making calculus understandable.
Reasonably good teacher in a class that is very difficult. Tries his best to hold your attention, and explain the material. Can be very funny at times. Encourages students to attend his office hours. Exams are INSANELY difficult.
Dr. Alikhani is the man!! hands down, he cares about his students. He will help you any way he can, just make sure you see him during his office hours, even if you don't have a question just to see him.
Best prof I've ever had. He's extremely intellegent, knows the material in and out and is SO willing to help his students in any way he can. He also has a way of getting students excited about the subject..which is not an easy task. Truely a great teacher
Great guy!
I failed 141 my first time, but it was not this mans fault. I did little work and never went to study hours. Now i do, and have a A-. He is a grade teacher and very hepful
This guy is amazing! He truly cares how his students do. Pay attention to his notes on Angel and do all of the hw problems he assigns normally and before tests. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS THEY ARE PRICELESS.He will help anyone with problems and will make sure they understand it! He gives curves on tests
THe best math teacher berks has to offer, is extremely helpful during class in his office hours. Test and quiz questions come right from his online notes and homework. If you need to take 141 he is the only professor you should take.
Hard class. Quizzes aren't too bad but the exams are pretty hard. His english isn't too well which made the class somewhat harder. Not always clear on the way he did some problems
Calculus is a tough class. This professor moves at a very quick pace, making the class even more difficult. He spends too much time deriving formulas when he should be teaching how to do the problems. He assigns a massive amount of work and grades very little of it. Avoid!
Let's face it...Calculus is not easy. Alikhani is hard to understand at first but you quickly become used to it. I won't put any blame on him for the difficulty of the class, like I said, it is calculus, II for that matter. He gives quizzes often, which isn't so bad. And go to his office hours!!
Great professor! I had him for math 141 and then when that class was done I strategically chose to take him for my next maths. He's hard to understand at first but he's worth taking, by the end of the semester you can't even hear an accent. He's funny too, great guy! He'll help you if you go to him!
Alikhani is the best math teacher I've ever had. He was always willing to help you, and he's actually is there for his office hours. I'll be taking 251 with him in the fall.
He does enough examples that you can almost learn it without doing the homework
Not the easiest class, but he definitely does his best to make sure you know your stuff for the tests. He gives a few quizzes/homework to keep you on your toes. You might think it's a bad thing, but it actually is the best thing for when it comes to the test. He'll do anything to help you out
OWWWW...Alikhani's the man!! Integrate those integrals! Integrate them good!
If I can be any person on this planet, I would be Dr. Alikhani... Great man in and out of the classroom. ALWAYS willing to help ANYONE whenever! and he curves generously... he wants people to pass even though a lot of people don't.... but those who do do GREAT and understand COMPLETELY EVERYTHINg... which tells me something about those who "fail"
He goes into proofs and then says you can do it that way or just memorize the equation, makes it nice b/c you can see the long way and short way of doing the problems, and choose which you'd like to use
Worst math prof berks has. I dropped 141 because he was so unclear and thought it might get better in 220. It didnt. Can't teach for crap. Reads off his notes the entire time. Unhelpful examples. Hard to understand. Take Shaparenko!
Alikhani does not know what he is doing. He needs to give us math and learn to speak english. Also nothing like a teacher who pulls quizzes on stuff he never went over. Penn State Berks and their professors are nothing but a joke and it is not worth paying for. Community college has more to offer than a supposed university like Penn State.
Calculus--easy. Independence--hard. Mini tests instead of group quizzes, no collected homework, no matter what professor, so get it done. Go to his office hours. Read ahead, do probs any spare moment. Look over your notes, retake your quizzes and exams. His notes had too much; I took my own. Use the extra problems, much better than manual.
Very difficult to understand. Doesn't speak clearly and relies almost entirely on his notes, which detracts severely from his teaching. Quizzes sometimes cover material that we haven't gone over in class.
Great teacher, if you pay attention. Makes class fun to be in. If you don't go to class you wont know whats going on. Make use of his office hours!!! Grades easiest out of all the professors of calc.
Great man! Great professor with great Persian integrity and personality. Extremely smart and knowledgeable!
He Is very nice the workload is pretty easy he makes the concepts pretty simple no complaints.
Dr. Alikhani is a tough professor like Dr. Ansari, but is a little more forgiving. He grades hard, but will still award partial credit. Read ahead and come to him after class with questions, he misinterprets what you are saying in class. He expects excellence and minimal mistakes. A great guy, however I find Garza communicates the material better.
He is a good teacher and always makes sure you completely understand the topic before moving on, although it is your job to stay on top of information or you will do bad. his accent is a bit strong but you get used to it.overall good teacher.
The greatest math professor at penn state
Great person, but worst professor I had in my two years at Berks. Always late for class, made mistakes on the board. I should have skipped class since notes he went over in class were posted on angel. I got an A, but I wouldn't recommend him if you can't learn the material on your own.
dr. alikhani is amazing. he has a great sense of humor, and if you go to class and do the homework you should do fine. it's a lot of work, but hey! it's college!!
Dr. Alikhani is a funny man. He will always make you laugh every class. It is however a hard class, so make sure you put time and effort into it! After taking Shaparenko and Alikhani; I felt Alikhani communicated the material a little better. You get used to his accent after about a week or so. I'd give him a 7 out of 10. Curves at the end.
Nice person, but he is doing his job weeding people out!
Don't take this class at Berks
what happened to him. He used to be fair.
great teacher, but the subject matter it hard. he explains very clear, and is not picky about how it has to be written on a test. would recommended to a friend, but you have to keep up with the course, it is very hard.
He is a very hard teacher. A nice person but goes very fast and has most of the notes already written out so while your trying to copy them down, he is already on the next problem. People complain about his accent but its really not bad at all. Do every single homework problem and study everyday if you want a C or better.
Subject not easy. Many engr students switch major not because of him but because of the subject. Now about Alikhani, he rushes through the notes but he post them online. He gives partial credit on exams. Pratice and do ALL of the HW questions, if you even dream of a C. He cares for his students and tries to be fair. On another note, he's funny...
Alikhani is the man. Class is never boring and if you as a question, he's very good at answering. Sometimes he can go a little fast when going over sections. Great teacher in my opinion.
As a professor he is funny and knows what he is teaching...the class is just hard (material-wise). You have work hard to get a good grade but he is a good professor
Dr. Alikhani was terrible with responding to emails and remembering when we had set up meetings to go over material. He was pretty funny in class with his jokes, and was pretty clear on most of the material. The thing that killed me in class was the collaboration with Ansari, who made/graded most of the exams.
Was very funny in class and taught the material quiet well. Just make sure you show ALL of your work if you want to get a good grade.
Alikhani is the man. If you are wondering who to choose between Ansari and Alikhani, definitely go for Alikhani. He makes time in every class to answer any questions you have. You won't fall asleep in class, cause he keeps it fun with his jokes. Fair grader. Anyways, you gotta take math seriously and study every week if you want a good grade
He is a good professor. He really cares about the students. He'll give you partial credit on quizzes and tests. He's a very funny teacher who keep you entertain during class. Make sure you do his homework for class. He'll even go over problems in class to help you understand. I recommend having him.
alikhani isnt very good. he is late class,he solves MANY problems incorrectly and he failed to post the notes online before the test. he forgets to tell you what is going to be on the test. If you're lucky he will mention some topics that will be tested but he always forgets something because he is 99 years old. Lastly, he barely speaks english.
Full class at start of 60 students. Down to under 30 in first month. Course has 30% pass rate excluding drops = 9 students out of 60. Math 141 has lowest average GPA of all courses at Penn State Berks. Recommend taking math courses elsewhere.
I made the 6/22/11 post and I don't think its a fair review of dr.alikhani.After getting an A heres my review pros:entertaining, solved lots of probs in class, posts lecture notes on angel, late to class, easy grader. cons: hard to understand,,doesn't post notes all the time. Bottom line: if u can do lecture probs perfectly u can get an A.

Dr. Alikhani is the best math professor at Berks. He is very friendly, kind and knowledgeable. Posts lectures on ANGEL, unlike the rest always in his office.
He is a good professor. He really cares about the students. He'll give you partial credit on quizzes and tests. He's a very funny teacher who keep you entertain during class. Make sure you do his homework for class. He'll even go over problems in class to help you understand. I recommend having him.
Dr. Alikhani is moderately a hard teacher, but he actually teaches the material so that most students understand what they are doing. He is extremely friendly and easy to approach, very helpful with office hours. If you put in the effort, you will pass the class and also understand the material. I definitely recommend Dr. Alikhani.
Dr. Alikhani is a great teacher, nice man.
Dr. Alikhani was by far the best math professor that I have encountered in my life. It was a 6 week summer course, but I learned a lot and I enjoyed it too.
Dr. Alikhani is an amazing professor. I enjoyed his teaching method and for the first time learned some serious mathematics. Take his class, good choice.
Dr. Alikhani is a really good professor. You will definitely learn alot if you take his class. He is always availabe during office hours and is willing to answer any questions you may have. Attendence is not mandatory, but you learn alot in one class, so you shouldn't miss. His class is not easy but he helps you along the way if you need it.
The best professor at PSU Berks. He is very helpful and a pleasant person. I found his class very interesting.
Very helpful and a good professor. He cares about his students.
I learned math and I enjoyed the class. Dr. Alikhani is the teacher who teaches mathematics passionately and creates an environment that you enjoy the class.
Dr. Alikhani has a really good personality that makes his class fun. However, with curriculum requirements, he teaches extremely fast. It is a very difficult calc class and it takes a lot of studying to pass. The tests are 6-8 questions worth 15-20 points each. I love the guy, but the class is brutal.
Dr. Alikhani is an extremely fair professor when it comes to the end of the semester and I'm more than grateful to have had him.
I took his class and had to drop. Class is strictly example problems the whole time, but he does not understand how to explain problems because he is a master at it. If you ask a question don't expect a better explanation. I retook calc with GARZA and he was a much better teacher. If you want to pass, don't take him unless you can teach yourself
"All mathematicians are going to Hell" - Alikhani. Great class atmosphere throughout the semester I had with Prof Alikhani. His lectures can be a tad long. He manages to keep his students' attention through his jokes. Quizzes are often and grading is fair. Tests are a bit tough. Final exam was written by a more difficult professor and it showed.
Dr. Alikhani is a great professor. He posts all his notes online and usually uses those examples in the quizzes or tests. There is no required homework for his class, but if you don't take the time to do it, you will struggle. He is a very nice, friendly, speaks english very well and is absolutely hilarious. I'm hoping i can take him again soon.
This is a tough class and a tough subject. This professor is one of the better ones for it. Be prepared to work extremely hard to earn your grade. The lectures are long and kinda fast paced, but the professors jokes keep it somewhat bearable. "There will be a math test to get into heaven." - Professor Alikhani
This professor talks way too fast and I could never keep up with him. Calc is so hard as is.. and he doesn't make it easy for anyone.. I dropped this class because of him. He makes you feel dumb for asking questions. Take someone else or take this course somewhere else.
My 2nd class with Dr A, and I have to say that hes still a pretty decent professor. Sometimes he can be a bit unclear in his lectures, but if you go back and read the notes he posts online it will begin to make some sense. His tests are taken directly from his notes and are usually pretty fair. Keep up with the homework, go to class, and youll pass
Alikhani is a great professor. He's hilarious and incredibly smart. If you ever need help, see him during office hours. He helped me a lot during office hours. The WileyPlus homework and quizzes are very difficult. Exams are really difficult but I did well on them. To study, just rewrite your notes. Make sure you can do every problem easily.
He's a friendly guy, but most of the class was online and the site we used (wileyplus) was horrendous. We did 2 quizzes in class along with 3 tests. All the homework and approximately 5 quizzes were done online.
Dr. Alikhani is a good professor. Tests range from average to semi-difficult. WileyPLUS homework is annoying but not a deal breaker. Teaching style is interesting, but you get used to it. This class is challenging, requires a lot of effort on the students part and is not for the faint of heart, but Alikhani is a solid choice for it.
I loved Dr. Alikhani! Although he did not use curves, his test were easier than the ones I've seen in Math 140. Yes, you must study and do the homework to do well, but I got a 99 and a 98 on the only two exams of the semester. If he doesn't post the notes, email him or else he'll give your class a quiz every week.
He is a really great professor. His class is sometimes hard to follow if you do not pay enough attention, but anyway he will post the notes. The class is not that hard, but you do need to work for it. Finishing the homework is generally not enough. Make sure you do every single questions in the notes by hand.
The course is designed poorly (online course), professor Alikhani-Koopae only shares a PDF with vague notes that lack good explanations and examples. He shares some videos regarding the main topics before quizzes; homework can be extensive. The professor tends to be rude when exchanging emails.
Hes the toughest grader I have ever seen. I did not understand the way he solved examples on his notes so I looked up how to do it on youtube. I applied the knowledge I got from the videos and tried to apply it to the quizzes. I got most answers right but he took off points because it was not the way he liked it. Very hard to get ahold of him too.
Great professor. All of the notes are uploaded online so even if you miss a class, you can still get the notes. There are quizzes every week which are based on the examples done in class. The exams are fair as well, with 80% of them being very similar to the example problems solved in the class. He does not assign any homework
He's honestly a really nice guy and he cares alot about the students, but the class is insanely difficult. DO NOT TAKE SUMMER CLASS, the summer class is near impossible unless you're great at math. I had to drop the class after the second test because I wasn't going to make it. If you're good at math I definitely recommend taking him
Alright Professor. Makes lots of mistakes, so that just adds to the confusion. Overall material was easy, but I didn't think he explained as well as he could. Gives extra credit quizes and all the notes are online and easy to follow along. Not the worst professor but definitely not the best.
Makes mistakes during lectures but usually fixes them. A little tough to understand sometimes, but overall a nice guy. Funny at times which is a nice change up from boring lectures.
His class notes can be difficult to understand. His exams are short and most of the time he gives questions that he never went over.
Heavy accent along with strict grading guidelines. He is really bad at online teaching. He gives a quiz every week that only has 1-2 questions on it, so make sure to study or he will give you complete zeros.
This is my second class with Dr. Alik. He's prone to errors, a horrible communicator, and is technologically not very savvy at all. BUT, he writes everything down, posts notes, gives clear study guides for exams, and exams are usually pretty easy. Be ready to teach yourself some material but a B is always within grasp for his class!
He is a great professor, but you have to stay on top of the material. He is very understanding and is a pretty easy grader.homework is graded for completion only, and he goes over the material he plans on using for his tests and quizzes. If you have a basic understanding of 140, you’ll be fine
He is a great professor. Solves lots of examples and posts his notes. Very nice and approachable.
Alikhani, while he may seem rude or mean at times, is overall a pretty funny guy. While he can be strict sometimes, he makes up for it by having good lectures with detailed problem solving, and he always posts notes, solutions to homework, and test solutions. 90% weighted on tests, so make sure you study, but exams arent too bad, just like homework
Don't get me wrong, calc is not easy by any means, however Alikhani makes things a lot less stressful. You still have to put the work in, study, do homework, etc. but his tests and quizzes are very reasonable. His accent can be hard to understand sometimes and lectures can be boring, but as long as you show up and try, you will be fine.
It's a pretty tough class, with 500 points total and 450 points weighted on exams. YOUR TA WILL (hopefully) GIVE YOU PREVIOUS EXAMS. USE THEM TO STUDY, and do the practice problems for each chapter. Alikhani's funny at times, and he's trying to prepare you for more math courses (Looking at you engineering majors). Hw is easy, exams are tough.
Professor Alikhani is a great teacher. You should read the lecture notes, attend office hours and practice on homework problems.
If you need to take him for MA230 or MA220, try to get a different professor. He makes mistakes when solving problems all the time, never answers emails, and has a poor attitude when it comes to students having confusion. He constantly claims all the topics should be "easy" and that we the students haven't done our part when the test average is a D
bad teacher
Alikhani's lectures are engaging, and his tests are fair if you put in the work. Use study tools like Unstuck ai and practice problems to do well. It's a challenging class, but he'll prepare you for future math courses.
he is the worst professor i ever had, he is not meant to be teaching, if you have to take math 220 or any other math class dont take it with Alikhani
always makes mistakes in class, his explanations are bad, exams are not a good representation of the homeworks or the questions he does in class.
DON'T TAKE THIS COURSE WITH THIS GUY
Definitely understands the content just does not do a good job teaching it whatsoever. Thankfully he posts the notes so it's easy to go back and teach yourself. On top of that, the tests are difficult, and I never truly understood what I lost points for. Other than that, very nice person and gives a curve at the end.
Whatever you do, do not take math 220 with this man. He singlehandedly made me reconsider my engineering major with this one class. There was no clear grading system he used with his exams, and took off what seemed to be way more points than were necessary. Homework and in class examples were not like anything that were on the exams. STAY AWAY!
NEVER TAKE THIS MAN!!!
Makes the material very clear and easy to understand. Also posts notes so it is easy to check them if you miss a class or just to review. The exams were very few questions so one mistake could drop your grade by a whole letter, but they were never that hard.
the entire course was just 50+ individual PDF's with NO videos on topics without mentioning what chapters in the book they were from. in person he is significantly better as I previously had him for M141 however, he is simply an awful professor for an online class. your grade is 80% exams and his questions are always different from the notes.
He gave weekly homework that was helpful to learn the material, and you were given full credit as long as you attempted it. The class is difficult, but the exams weren't bad as long as you put in the effort. The notes were also posted online which was very helpful.
Does not elaborate on the material and offers little to no outside class learning material. Very rude to students asking questions and expect students to know material before even teaching material. Incredibly fast lectures and disengages from students often. DO NOT recommend at all.
