She basically reads the powerpoint slides the whole class. She posts them on beachboards so there is really no point in going to class. The powerpoints are helpful. They summarize the chapters. If you ask her for help, she is more than willing to help. If you dont understand something, then she helps. Ask her to make a study guide. Barely any hw.
Professor Choi is extremely helpful. Her Lectures are pretty straight forward. She takes roll so be there everyday. It's a pretty easy class but her lectures are boring.
She is very helpful. Goes over her powerpoint and if she finishes early she'll let you out. Tests are tricky, but she'll provide you a study guide in advance
she is like so kool easy class explains very good and her exams are easy. she provides a study guide theirs no surprises on exams. highly recommend her!!!!!
She is a power point teacher. Kind of a boring class. If you know the subject already you should do fine. If you don't know anything just make sure to study power points before you take your test. Would I take her again? Maybe, depends if their is a better teacher teaching the same class.
The worst of the worst I've had in Long Beach State She gave me a 'D' in the class just because attendance and I had excused absences and she didn't even give me the chance to show her I hate her
The class in general is dry because of the subject matter, but Prof Choi is very organized and knowledgeable about her field. She teaches off a powerpoint, but they are usually short and we get out early. Tests can be tricky if you dont know how to connect her lectures into real life instances. Not a difficult class if you study and attend.
She might be a little boring but is incredibly knowledgeable and is there to help you. It won't kill you if you don't have the book, but you'll definitely do better.
I thought her class was pretty easy. Her tests are all about application of knowledge. She gives you situations and you have to apply what you learn. The only irritating thing was the mock trial. All I can say is that you better pray you have a good/well-organized group. Otherwise, it's going to be a long semester.
Go to class and study = A.
EASY CLASS JUST 2 CASE BRIEFS REQUIRED! NO PAPER! EXAMS ARE HARD, BUT SHE GIVES GOOD STUDYGUIDES... ALL POWERPOINTS ONLINE..
Far from being a hard professor, but not necesarily the easiest. Attendance and textbook not required since she posts all her powerpoints online. Tests can be tricky but she does provide decent study guides. Class can be VERY boring but she is very knowledgable and is willing to help you.
The exams are essays. They're fact based where you have to decide on the constitutionality of a certain event. Difficult wise, it's medium but easy if you study and are good at writing timed essays. You have one case brief/presentation and one search warrant analysis paper. Both are easy if you understand the material.
The class consists of four exams, two case briefs, a midterm, and final. It might seem like a lot, but it's not. The exams are short and essay based. The case briefs are one page each and are easy. The midterm and exam are case scenarios and are multiple choice. I took her this summer and it was not difficult at all. Easy and clear! Great Professor
Dr. Choi is a great professor. She is difficult but you WILL learn a lot! exams are fill in and multiple choice. mock trial can be a pain but it was so much fun. It really gives you an idea of what a real trial is like. you need to follow directions on the format of an assignment. I got an A by studying the power points really well, and doing good
She is extremely helpful. You have a search analysis paper and a case brief, but if you take them to her before its due she corrects it & tells you what you need. Also she has 3 exams and a final. All are based on the powerpoint slides that she provides to you. You might want to ride the case assignments just to get a better understanding. :)
very nice prof. try to attend to her office hours because she is very helpful. her lectures are very interesting and knows hot to teach, but her test hmmm.... don't really like them weird format
She is the best CJ professor. I took CRJU 301, and 340 with her and learned pretty much learn everything. She is brilliant at teaching and explaining the concept. She is always there to help you out. She is professional, never lazy, and intelligent. She never wastes your time and always sticks to the point.I love her, she is my role model.
Overall one of my favorite professors: very professional, helpful, and nice. If you want an A, you will work hard for it, yet it is obtainable. Tests are challenging, but you learn a ton. If you get an A, you should feel really proud. Uploads all her powerpoints & study guide outlines, very helpful. GREAT PROFESSOR.
I loooove choi!! I was dreading taking courts but she actually made all her lectures really interesting and was very clear on all the concepts. Exams are somewhat easy, but she grades the mock trial paper pretty hard. But other than that this class is totally doable.
She is one of the nicest professors I took for criminal justice! You only write one paper assignment for the class and she uses a lot of PowerPoint for her lectures. She gives out pop quizzes too and there are no make ups for that so be careful when you miss class!
I took this class to fulfill my g.e. requirement for my degree but overall i don't recommend taking this class unless you're majoring in criminal justice. She gives out easy exams but tough quizzes but if you miss an exam or quiz you can't make it up which is stupid, also she's a really tough grader on the case paper you have to write.
Very challenging without the book. Make sure to attend classes because the material is tough to remember. Grades very harshly. Case paper is graded very strictly. People you would think wouldn't do well on the paper will. Lots of material to study for only a 50 question test.
2 Exams + Final. 2 papers - one 5 pages (no partner), the other 10 to 15 pages (can work with a partner). Mock Trial towards the end of class. Do not need the book as long as you memorize the powerpoints which are REALLY helpful and useful for the exams. would recommend her.
She's a really nice lady and is always very clear and eager to help things make sense. Her assignments and tests/pop quizzes were a little tough but it was a good class in general.
4 exams including the final and 2 case briefs. she is very helpful, organize, clear, and sometimes funny. this class is not easy to get an A, but you will learn ALOT! i highly recommend.
Will not take again. Her exams are so hard, she throws you off with her long exam questions, can be confusing. Even if you studied the powerpoints, the exams are completely different than the powerpoints. She gives exams right after the other, so you have to study A LOT. Everything is rushed. I wonder if anyone got an A for this class.
Dr. Choi is a wonderful professor. She teaches depth in criminal justice that she expects the students to understand what she is saying. Assignments are not required, but quizzes and exams are tough if you do NOT read the textbook. This class is highly recommended for criminal justice majors.
Participation was worth 20 points! Make sure you check your participation points every week! She gives 5 quizes, a midterm, final, 10pg paper, and group presentation. She does not offer extra credit. Overall its a not a hard class as long as you know the material.
Wouldn't recommend to anyone, shes not very helpful, just your typical professor, lectures then leaves. Exams are very hard. For her assignments she should provide students with a sample of what she expects but i guess it doesn't matter to her. Do not take.
Totally vague about what she wants on the papers and midterms(final). Avoid the trouble and just take the class with someone else.
Professor Choi is by far one of the best professors I've had. She is very clear, thorough, and helpful. I took three classes with her and she is an excellent lecturer. I strongly recommend taking one of her classes.
Not helpful. Kinda Rude, actually. Test are confusing (wording).
Advice: Go to her office hours for help, have her pre-read your paper and fix any mistakes, participate, make sure you know the material, if you ask her what will be on a test she will usually tell you. She is a hard grader but she is very helpful if you are willing to ask for help. Cons: An hour presentation, 5 pop quizzes, fact scenarios test
3 test, 2 quizzes, case brief, mock trial, 1 paper (10p) can work with a group. Great teacher, knows what she is talking about, tough grader but willing to help if you go to her office hours before turning assignment in. Con: Not a lot of points to mess around with, so make sure you do well on everything. Can't pick your group for mock trial
She is a great professor, knows the material well, and I have taken her for every class she teaches at CSULB for undergrad. She may come off as intimidating at first, but get to know her, and she is really helpful. She expects you to work for your grade, especially written assignments and short essay tests. Take her! You will learn a lot form her!!
Her lecture slides are available online, and they actually cover everything in the book. I still recommend reading the textbook - it's a really easy read. Do that or actually pay attention in class and you should do just fine. Her tests and quizzes are straightforward.
I had her for 340. She taught pretty well but her class is not an easy A. If you try and turn in all your assignments you will pass, however, an A is almost impossible. There were three exams plus a final and two case briefs. I would write the case briefs before and have her check them because she will help you and give you feedback at office hours
DO NOT TAKE! Super vague on her writing assignments (4-5 depending on which class you take), does not give good feedback. Her grading criteria is SUPER vague, her tests have super hard wording, with some questions designed to trick you. She treats all students like they are all in law school. Your grade will drop fast! Really nice, but super boring
Although Professor Choi was really nice, her class was extremely hard. I barely passed the class. She is a super tough grader when it comes to papers and her tests are extremely tricky. You have little points to deal with so if you don't do well once or twice you're pretty doomed for the semester. Enter with precaution.
I would recommend Dr. Choi to anyone. Her class was challenging and I learned a lot from her. She is a tough grader on her assignments, so it pays to be meticulous. This is a 300-level class, so don't expect to slide by. "Failing to prepare is preparing to fail" - Start studying on day 1 for the final/ midterm! You will be glad you took her!
Very knowledgeable professor. No Friday meetings!!! She replied to me: "my 350 and 340 MWF classes are hybrid, which means that we meet on Mondays and Wednesdays for lectures. You will have online assignments to complete on your own in lieu of in-class sessions on Fridays. Online assignments usually consist of watching videos on various subjects."
I was able to take Prof. Choi for 301 340 and 350 and don't regret it one bit. Even though she is a harsh grader on papers, just go to her office hours and you'll get the grade you want. Shell tell you what to fix and you golden. Her tests are hard and scenario based so don't just memorize PowerPoints, be able to apply info to scenarios. TAKE HER.
The class is very straightforward but I do recommend taking notes on the PowerPoints! You do not need the TEXTBOOK for the class. First Pop Quiz was unannounced; however, the last two were. Study the PowerPoints and you'll be alright. Go to office hours for Case Law and Mock Trial Prep Assignment! Ended the semester well!
Professor Choi was my favorite professor this semester. At first i was not too fond of her class because i am not interested in courts. However, after deciding to giver her class a chance, she quickly became my favorite. Choi is a very nice and caring professor. She will help you if you seek the help. Go to office hours!
Honestly, she was super rude. In office hours she was not understanding or helpful. She lectures all class and is super vague on what she wants, for literally anything. Her tests are made so all the answers are "right" but one is "more right." I would never take any of her courses again. And i tell all the younger CJ majors not to. NOT WORTH IT
This class was so much fun! First half was spent learning objections from the California evidence code. We did one class practice mock trial, and then broke into two groups and did our two graded trials. There's one paper on the other team's mock trial presentation. She's tough grader, but is fair and will always give you thorough feedback.
Classes were pretty much all lecture. Mock trial towards the end was fun and a nice change of pace. There were a few quizzes that were pretty hard, but the midterm and final were easier. Study hard for them and you'll be OK. Pretty hard grader on the two papers. Not many points to work with, so every point counts! Knowledgable and professional.
3 pop quizzes (not really though b/c she tells you), midterm & final (if you study what is on the power points you'll be fine), 2 papers that are straight forward, but she grades tough (I suggest going to office hours and getting her input before they're due). The mock trial at the end is super fun! Every point counts. She is very knowledgeable.
Prof Choi does a good job in teaching the material to her class BUT her exams are super difficult, most questions are very tricky. She is an extremely tough grader, she marks u down 4 the littlest of details. I dont think anyone passed with an A in this class. Class consists of case brief/presentation, 3 exams, & 2 assignments. Not an easy A class!
DO NOT TAKE HER UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED/HAVE TO. The content of this class is very easy to understand, but she is the worst when it comes to grading. Her tests are extremely tricky. NOT AN EASY A!!!
Choi is a great teacher but a tough grader. Textbook is mandatory because you will read different case laws and chapters. Take good notes and pay attention. Not a lot of assignments (two tests before the final, a case brief, and analysis assignment) so it is hard to pick your grade up if u do bad on one. You'll definitely know a lot at the end
I went to class every day and studied hard for exams and still did not pass. Her exams are worded weird almost as if to trick you. Getting an A is rare so if you're looking for an A, good luck. Shes very kind and knowledgeable as a professor but shes a very tough grader.
Uploads all her lectures on bb & discusses them in class. Weekly online quizzes (need access to site $80) worth 5 pts (grade booster), gives you 3 tries. Midterm & Final are easy as long as you do the readings and follow her lectures online. Mock trial is fun;the paper was difficult. Got a D on the mock trial paper, but finished class w/an A.
Don't take her. Material is not hard and interesting so you can easily learn it but she makes her tests as if she wants you to fail. Confusing wording and basically mean the same thing but one "is more right". She is nice but her teaching style is horrific and does not give feedback. Take with someone else.
(Taken during covid) This professor is helpful and clear with what they want. I was able to pass with an easy A as long as you purchase all the text stuff. I definitely recommend taking them!
Professor Choi is not a terrible professor but this class was not enjoyable. The group projects are ridiculous and can make or break your grade since you are graded as a whole and will most likely get stuck with some bad group members. Mock trial memorandum is probably the hardest part of the class. Take with someone else.
Attendance is mandatory the first 1-2 weeks, then during mock trial at the end of the semester. There are a few group assignments that are all writing based, so you're screwed if you get lazy classmates. E-book is $80 and required for quizzes. She provides study guides for her exams. Lastly, always ask for her feedback on writing assignments!!
Prof Choi is so knowledgeable about what she is teaching and it shows. Lectures have really useful and clear information. She does grade tough on written assignments but if you go to office hours and ask for feedback it really helps. Mock trial was online but I think it would be fun in person.
Choi is a great professor! She does have a few group projects so be wary of who you chose to be in your group. The mock trial wasn't too bad and kind of easy and fun. Her quizzes are super easy and gives you 3 chances. Her test on the other hand are a bit tough but not impossible.
One of the best professors I have had at CSULB. If you pay attention you will have a very good understanding of the subject material. The only downside is that she is a strict grader when it comes to papers. Treat this more like a law class and you will do well.
This classes is one of the hardest classes i've taken. She teaches each lesson well but her exams are difficult unless you take the time to understand each concept. STUDY as much as you can for her exams! As for her assignments, she is a tough grader as well. She has weekly quizzes but gives you two attempts. It's a hard class but I learned a lot!
Professor Choi is a tough grader and super tedious when it comes to assignments. The exams are hard and unpredictable. She offers a study guide but terms require multiple pages of reading. There is two exams and one final. Theres also a couple of group projects. I did find her class to be challenging only when it came to exams.
I don't know if its that she is a lawyer, but she is a tough grader and a boring lecturer. She grades super hard in the written assignments and is not the nicest when you ask questions in office hours. Study guides are not specific so study hard! Make sure to also select your mock trial teammates wisely, you will need to jump in for no shows.
I am a bit conflicted with this Professor. Her lectures are amazing and really straight forward. However, when it comes to tests and assignments she is extremely critical on grading them. The answers to the test are meant to trick you having 2 or 3 correct answers with one of them being the correct one. Study hard on the material's on her guide.
This professor is the absolute worst! Take anyone else but her, trust me, you will regret it if you decide to take her class. She is not a clear grader, does not provide feedback in discussion boards, & likes to highlight her favorite students. I would have taken anyone else but here if she wasn't the only one who offered this class in the summer.
The work load is not a lot but she grades really hard and is really picky with her papers. Then her tests are confusing because of the way she words her questions and theyre lengthy. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
This class is one of the hardest I've taken at CSULB. It's the tests; super wordy and then some questions will have a scenario with each answer choice (A, B, etc) having multiple choices within them (A. II and IV; B. I and III, and so on). In addition to this, the time given is too short. Honestly, if you get a C here, treat it like an A.
Hardest class I've ever had. She grades assignments like we're in law school. Tests are lengthy and wordy, designed to trick you. Not enough time for the tests either. I asked for more time and she basically told me to manage my time better, so she is not accommodating at all. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
While her exams may be a bit challenging, if you're willing to put in the time and study the topics of case law, you will do well. I took Choi 2 semesters in a row, each time her classes challenged me but made me appreciate her more. If you want to work anywhere CJ where you have to apply case law take her class! She is understanding and caring.
I have taken three classes with professor Choi: 340,350, and 420. Each one had something different, for 420, she gave us two projects to present. One is teaching a chapter out of the book (45 mins to an hour) and the other is a 20 minuet presentation on anything in corrections that interests you. She is a tough, but she is super kind.
I really enjoyed taking 301 with professor choi! I actually learned a lot and enjoyed her lectures. Her exams are a bit difficult and wordy but if you study every topic you should be fine.
tests had tricky questions and multi level. lectures were straightforward but the tests are difficult.
Took her for a third time because I had no other options. She is a hard grader. You need to be on your game all the time to get an A. The Paper was easy, but she dots your points for little mistakes. So, that added up. Overall, she is decent.
Prof Choi may be tough, but she'll help you reach your full potential & push you to be more attention-to-detail & become a better writer. She makes you work for the A, but her standards aren't unreasonable. She is also very kind & she genuinely cares about her students. I highly recommend taking her if you want to improve the quality of your work.
All CRJU students know either you love Choi or don't. Personally, she's a good professor but her class is difficult. Her quizzes and exams are all made up by her and the questions are very tricky. She is a very tough grader and getting an A in her class is nearly impossible. You will learn but only because you have to in order to pass the class.
i know she is very hit or miss but she has been one of my favorite professors so far at csulb. she really explains the material well and really cares about people learning. her grading is hard on papers and tests but just study a lot!! take her for sure!!!
2 writing assignments, 5 quizzes, 2 tests, a final exam, and a presentation. The class seems simple but there isn't much room for you to mess up. I have gotten close to an A on every assignment and there are still 35 points left and I need 20 to pass. no room for error in this class and exams are the only think she focuses on after march.
One of my favorite professors. The people who don't like her just want to be able to do the bare minimum for an A. Her class isn't easy, but her teaching is very effective; she makes the content interesting. One of my favorite things about her is how clear her instructions are for all assignments and projects. Highly recommend taking from her.
The class is graded on 2 writing assignments, 11 quizzes,1 midterm, a final mock trial, and final exam. DO NOT leave the writing assignments for last min, you'll regret it! You DO need to purchase her textbook to access the quizzes. The mock trial is actually very fun so make sure you meet up with your group multiple times beforehand!
The material was interesting but the lectures felt unnecessary. She takes attendance but it doesn't count towards your grade. She posts slides online and just reads off them in class so I often didn't show up and still got an A. She seems super nice and obviously is a good teacher. I just didn't learn anything in lectures that weren't on Canvas.
Professor Choi is great. She explained things very well to where I can actually understand the material. She is a bit of a tough grader for the essays but other work is really easy. We had chapter quizzes which were 5 questions each, 2 papers, and a mock trial at the end of the semester which was fun.
She is a very kind and understanding professor. The slideshows that she presents helps a lot with her tests. Her textbook is kinda pricey, and its mandatory. She offers a few extra credit opportunities. You can tell she is passionate about teaching and wants you to succeed. Makes the lectures very interactive.
Completing 130 hours for CRJU 493 in less than four months was challenging. The professor maintains high standards for grading assignments. For instance, the essay draft was graded rigorously, and the final essay, with its 2,500-word requirement, added significant pressure. As a result, I often had to stay up late to complete the assignments.
Choi is great. Easy online quizzes and exams. Mock trial at end of semester which was pretty fun. Only complaints are that she is a tough grader on the one assigned paper, and her lectures are incredibly bland. But she is very sweet and understanding, and overall a great professor. Take her!
choi's lectures are very informative. she provides lots of feedback and grades within a few days. you get to choose to work by yourself/groups in class activities and paper assignments. tb is mandatory to buy since it's her own and requires you to make an acc, so you can't find online or share. overall great but won't round grades even for a 89%...
Professor. Choi is a very difficult grader. She hardly gives her students A's. She sometimes has favorites (she will let one student retake something to bump grade up but not everyone else). If you want to challenge yourself take her, if not I wouldn't recommend.
Choi is a gem. I've taken her for 4 CRJU classes now, she is easily the best professor in the department. Doesn't give pointless busy work, quizzes and exams are online. There are a couple projects and a presentation that are relatively easy. No ridiculous 12 page papers or lengthy assignments. She is also super caring and accommodating. Take her!
Idk why she has a low rating, i personal loved her class. Very easy and laid back. A few canvas quizzes, midterm and 2 exams on canvas, case law with partner + presentation. Like its laid back and easy to pass. She's very sweet too. She does grade harshly but nothing crazy. Its easy to pass with a high B.
Course consisted of LOTS of participation so get ready to speak in class by comments and presentations. There are only 7 total things you are graded on including the final project. She is a good teacher overall and is clear about the grading from the start. She is also a tough grader for sure, so be wary of that.
