Took psychological tests and measures with her... i think she's pretty hot, i mean, for a 40 year old at least
Interesting class-great for GREs-could be boring but prof makes material relevent.Covers testing bias and history-hot discussions. Not required but worth taking.
This is my first seminar and I love it. Lots of interesting discussion. Prof is knowledgable and weaves case examples into lectures. Best course so far for me.
This was a great class - interesting class, great topic, nice mix of lectures and discussions. Recommend it highly for all psych majors.
great class excellent professor. Finally a teacher who can teach and who likes students.
awesome class.Need to keep up with the readings and the book was too expensive. Prof talked to us about careers and connected course to future. She told us we did not have to buy the book and gave some out.Do not buy the book.
the topic is really realy interesting & the lectures. Others in class were not as talkative as me but we had good discussions. Lectures for half and discussion rest. No tests 2 papers. We did not have to pressent but my friends class did. No rat talk a plus. Good for psychobio majors if want to learn about humans for 1ce.
Terrible teacher. Disorganized lectures, not very clear on assignments. Gives poor feedback on papers, completely illegible. Hostile to some students.
Great class. Text is hard but I did great on the test. Prof makes class intresting, very smart & knowldgable. Shows DVDs &lots of examples. Lets us ask about graduate school and professional questions. Hard to get into this class. Closed out so had to petition.
We love her.
very disorganized with lectures, unclear about assignments, text was hard to get through, overall not a great class
High work load but intresting corse. Not an easy A but if you get good partners they can do all most of the work for you.I lucked out with great partners and did well with a little effort.
boring lectures, tests are all textbooks, class is irrelevate, tests are detailed although she says they aren't. a lot of memorization in this course
Tests had 2 much from lectures-not enuff from text-not fair too hard to make class mornings tooearly. Not enuff exta credit to make sure I can Ace it. Running a B+ now and I read the chapters.Tests should stick to power pt. Clss shouod be later in the day & should have essay test options.
do not take unless for grad class. no clue how to teach large hall and lower level course. doesnt know how to make mc tests. test all from txtbook. going to class is pointless.
Don't know what person talking about. Questins on test from text and class. Interesting but you have to go to class. Not an easy A and very large hall class.
lecture material doesn't reflect what is on the test at all. the class is too big to be a discussion class, yet she makes it one anyway.
The worst professor I have ever had! She is totally disorganized! She tries to make a lecture a discussion class and it never works out well. Classes are pointless! The book and the website are your best chances to pass.
too much cheating on tests but class is great.
Worst professor at BU. Completely disorganized and unprepared. Does not know how to use a computer. Paranoid about cheating. Presents common knowledge in boring lecture. Tests do not show one's comprehension of material. Do NOT take any courses with this professor. She is basically a witch.
she was very helpful I liked having her as a teacher and she is willing to assist students if needed.
She is kind and nice. It is hard reading so not an easy A. The first test is really hard so it makes you think you may not do good but I studied really hard got an A but you have to go to class. It upped my GPA so no complaints.
Believe everyone when they say she's disorganized. It's bad. All quizes are 100% book-based and confusing. Half her multiple choice questions don't seem to have any right answer and the whole class will argue with her over it. I feel as if i'm smarter than her and thats not a good sign. She's really nice though...
Class is a complete waste of time. She's disorganized, and has no idea what she's doing most of the time. Just do the readings and the quizzes are easy, there are no other tests.
lecture is pointless to attend, but you have to anyway because you dont know when shes going to give a quiz. some of the questions on the quizzes are tricky.. you take about 13-14 of them and she takes the best 9.. not hard to get a decent grade at all as long as you look over the outlines on blackboard the night before.
this class was laughably easy.
I liked class a lot.lots of films and lectures. If you keep up reading and go to class you can do well but you have to attend. The class was huge so tests all multiple choice. No papers.
Took 2 course from Prof. I am notpsych major sothought class was harder for me.Book boring.Got 80s on half the quizzes so should have an A-. Some students cheated and I did not so I asked for a change. Prof was helpful but would not change the grade.
Fun and interesting class. Sarcastic prof. don't think kids got it most of the time. Class is required. Read text and go to class. Fair prof
Prof says class is so easy even a Binghamton student can do it. Quizzes hard and have to take them all semseter.
Things to bring to class: -pillow -cosmopolitan -work for your other classes -cell phone -ipod -art supplies -applications for transfer -petition to revoke freidmans right to teach friedmans class is painfully boring...come prepared
Friedman is one of the worst professors I've had in Binghamton. She's incredibly disorganized and doesn't know how to teach. She fed us Power Points from the textbook company! The quizzes were easy and it's not hard to do well if you put in a bit of effort. Nonetheless, as someone else said, Friedman needs to have her teaching license revoked!
As many have said, she is disorganized and insecure with her own teaching (ie. can't do it). Constantly questions why the class is writing down notes on her lectures when "They're straight from the text". Every e-mail or Word document from her is full of varying levels of paranoia, and nothing she says is clear. Lectures aren't written by her.
Message on Blackboard said students complain too much that the class doesn't have an A and how we're all stupid. She said she is not impressed by class discussions and we'e not all "scholars". Also if you are a "scholar" and got a low grade on a test to see her. So benefits? She needs to realize she doesn't teach and that's why this all happens.
She is SOOOOOO DRY!!!! This class is SOOOOOO boring dont ever take it unless you are required to! You will learn everything you need to from the textbook and her tests are ridiculous because she puts too many similar answers in her multiple choice questions!!!
the tests are extremely hard. all multiple choice. attendance is "mandatory" as stated on the syllabus but its a huge lecture so obvi you dont have to be there. the classes are super boring but i guess you could say its kinda interesting?
Alice Friedman is one of the worst professors I have had at Binghamton University. The only classes that were interesting and thought-provoking were those in which a movie was shown. Otherwise, class was painstakingly boring. The tests didn't test for knowledge, but rather how close you paid attention to the text. Avoid this class at all costs.
This professor doesn't know how to teach. She probably thinks she can, but she can't. Her classes were a waste of my time. I probably could've gotten an A just reading the textbook assignments. If you are willing to attend her class, make sure to bring a pillow, sleeping bag, and a blanket with you, as you will be begging for it!!!
She does not want you to do well and is a really inconsiderate professor. Your grade only consists of 4 multiple choice tests which are really hard, no curve. Do not sign up with her! She is absolutely horrible!
she does not teach. period. you gotta pay close attention to the text, but with a good amount of studying a 90 is manageable. there's no curve BUT she removed questions most ppl get wrong so out of like 40 questions she winds up counting only 33ish. bottom line: class is worthless. study the book very closely and never go to class and you're good.
Friedman cannot teach if her life depended on it. She talks in circles and struggles trying to use big words. And she's annoying. But besides that, this class was easy. Just read the textbook and you'll be fine.
Friedman's lectures make no sense. There isn't really a point in going to class because her lecture doesn't flow with the book. The textbook is easy though so as long as you read it you will do fine. 1/2 the questions get eliminated because they don't make sense. Everyone ends up doing fine though
She's a terrible lecturer, dry doesn't begin to cover it. She attempts to get the class into discussions, but between students not reading the material, and our brains being in 'auto-pilot' from inactivity, it's like watching her try to pull teeth. She is, however, a very bright women and is quite nice, just not a great professor.
She is a terrible professor, but I have had worse at Bing. Not necessary to go to class, because she never covers material. She has extreme anxiety, because she thinks everyone is judging her, so she never ends up actually saying anything. She ALWAYS just prefaces things. Reading the text will give you a good grade in the class!
I took this course second semester of freshman year. I'm now a senior. I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that Friedman is the worse professor I have had. She simply doesn't teach. You're paying the school money to be taught but you have to teach yourself by reading the book b/c she doesn't even make an attempt at helping her students learn.
Useless as a teacher. Not qualified to teach the class, nor is she qualified to teach period. She does not belong in the classroom. The book is the only thing that got me through the class, as I literally learned nothing from her.
She teaches the text word for word. Just read the textbook and you will get a good grade.
She is probably one of the worst professors at Bing in my opinion. She is nice, but she should not be teaching. She continually blames students' testing abilities as the problem when over half the class has problems with her sub-par tests. Usually the questions are so general and poorly worded. She reads from notes and considers that teaching.
probably the worst professor or teacher I've ever had. comes into class with no plans whatsoever, takes 3 1/2 weeks to put test grades up, doesn't tell you useful information about the test. she should not be a professor under any circumstance!
Worst teacher I ever had. Easy grader. Don't take if you want to learn anything. Good for an easy a
She sent a message to all the 200+ students in this class, featuring minimal punctuation and an abundant use of caps lock, criticizing their questions regarding an exam and claiming that students at Yale would not be asking such questions. Need I say more? She's nuts.
She's without a doubt the worst "professor" I've ever had. She thinks she's above everyone and attempts to insult us but she actually makes no sense so we all just laugh at her. You don't need to go to class because you might die from boredom. Just read the actual chapters and you'll be okay. This class could've been interesting too :(
All you have to do is read the text book and not go to class and you'll get an A.
Worst professor I've ever had. Hates public speaking, is not good at entertaining crowds, belittles students because we are all "point grubbing middle school students." If you take her and decide to go to class please keep track of all her dumb comments and send them to the Dept. of Psych to remind them how badly she needs to be fired.
DO NOT GO TO CLASS!! i am someone who goes to all my classes and i never went to class. Memorize the textbook and the summaries at the end of each chapter and you will definitely get at leas t B+.
She's a horrible teacher and hates pretty much all of the students, don't understand why she teaches. Don't go to class, even the stuff she says you have to learn from her you can pick up from the book. The class sounds interesting, but she makes it boring.
Probably the most anal retentive professor I've ever had. Has severe control issues. Assigns seats for testing, paranoid and appears unstable. Atending class is not necessary. Easy class if you read the book. You just won't learn anything from this strange woman.
I am one of those people that attends every single class all the time. I think this may be the one class you REALLY don't need to. Very interesting subject matter, but everything I learned and took away from the class was from the textbook, nothing she said at all. Not a bad person, just not meant to teach this class. Easy A if you read the book.
Don't go to class. Shares like a nice enough woman, but goes on tangents, talks in circles, let's you out early and starts late. Seems on the verge of collapse. Read the text and you'll get a B+. Take notes in the book and get an A.
In class she will summarize word for word the contents of the textbook. You won't learn anything though because her teaching style is very very boring. Doesn't offer any of her own experience in the class. I didn't pay for this class so I could learn everything by myself through reading a textbook anyone could by. Not worth taking.
Friedman's class is irrelevant to the tests, which come straight from the textbook. She is not helpful, but the material is very straightforward and easy to learn on your own.
Didn’t enjoy this teacher. She doesn’t seem to enjoy teaching. Reads directly from textbook slides so no need to go to class. Class is an easy A if you memorize the text. 5 tests all non-cumulativeand hw grades. hw has infinite tries so it's so easy.
I'm sorry but this professor is the worst professor in this country. Don't take her class please.
Horrible professor. You have to teach yourself the material by reading the textbook. Going to class is absolutely pointless. I spend 10-12 hours reading, outlining the chapters that will be on the tests (because she doesn't teach you anything) and then study them and only ended up with a B.
After reading the comments on here I was scared to take her class, but it wasn't as I'd expected. I read most of the chapters and attended most classes and got in the 90s on every test. Class was interesting & usually ended early. Nice lady and interesting class, might as well go.
Probably the hardest PSYC class that I have ever taken. The material is very dense and detailed. Dr. Friedman does not follow the textbook...no need to go to class. But the textbook is kind of hard to get through. You're basically on your own if you want to do well. If you're good at lengthy multiple choice questions then you are good.
She is an awful teacher who herself seems to have some issues. The tests were very close together and on lots of material. Her teaching is all over the place and wherever she wants--sometimes near the textbook material. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS unless you want to be very, very frustrated.
Honestly, the class is not that bad. Merriwether teaches the other section of PSYC 220 and her tests are so deceptive. Dr.Friedman literally takes the questions from the textbook. Yes, she doesn't really teach and rambles off-topic about random things. But she isn't that bad. I would go to class and just outline the textbook.Couldn't be easier.
Everyone needs to stop complaining about her class. It's so easy that you don't even need to go to class to get an A. There's 5 exams and she always curves the grades up. Ample opportunity to improve. If you can read a textbook on your own then there's no reason as to why you can't get an A. If you can't get out of college!
Honestly, I'd take a class with her any day over some of the other professors who are extremely harsh graders. All you need to do in order to get an A is read and memorize the textbook inside and out. The tests are a joke. Plus, she's a pretty nice lady.
Pretty shot teacher, sturggled to stay awake in class. Her lectures overall are just boring and besides the point. if u read the text book though, easy A.
She struggles to communicate in class and in e-mails. Not that she doesn't do it, you really just can't understand what she says (fails to summarize). She seems distracted and disoriented regularly. She makes easy topics complicated, be sure to read the text book. Try not to be taken back by her consistent flustered appearance.
Couldn't pay attention to her lectures, so didn't really go to class (but she asked a few questions based on class material in her exams). Just read the textbook and you will be fine.
She was very very very disorganized for class. she would always forget deadlines and change things up last minute. On the bright side she was willing to help, but she is the worst professor I've experienced at BU!
Friedman is something else. She does not teach material well at all and is unclear about assignments and expectations. She spent 3 1/2 weeks our class's papers and then told us "it would be cruel to give us a grade", so we had to rewrite it. Totally unprepared for class and disheveled. Doesn't have interesting discussions. Used slides not her own.
Most important thing to do is READ THE TEXTBOOK. Take notes of the blue and italicized terms in book. Go to every class in case she plays a video. There are always questions on the test about the videos. You have to learn most of the material on your own. Pretty common in college. Do that and get an A. She often lets us out early so thats a plus.
I loved the class. Friedman is a great teacher she wants everyone to learn the material and do well. It's important to go to class because she randomly takes attendance for extra credit. I have learned the most from her.
Dr. Friedman is great! Her class may seem pointless but definitely go because she uses lecture material on the test that is so easy if you half paid attention! Read the textbook throughly and outline the chapters and you will get an A no problem, not to mention you will learn a lot. Tests are very straight forward so no worries!
Good teacher. Good class.
Dr. Friedman is a great professor. I really enjoyed her lectures. The tests were a bit challenging because they are based on the lecture and the book, but other than that it wasn't that bad. I highly recommend taking Behavior Disorders with her!
I loved this class. Dr. Friedman is great. She wants everyone to do well and makes an effort to teach as best as she can. I've taken 4 classes with her and loved every single one. The tests are very long, but straight forward. Read the textbook and go to class!
Learn all your material on your own. The textbook will give you your grade on a test. Going to class is a waste of time, she basically talks about nothing and treats you like you're 5 years old. I tried to go to class and I always end up sitting on my phone. As I'm writing this I'm in her class bored to death. Enjoy not attending :)
It should tell you something when only 20 minutes in, with only half of the class attending in the first place, that people slowly pack up and leave. At least 15 so far. ATTENDANCE NOT MANDATORY
SHE IS HORRIBLE. Avoid this professor at any costs. She makes you buy the newest textbook and all access codes. Also her tests are brutal-she doesn't even make them they come from the textbook company. She doesn't care about the students and won't answer questions. She also sends out numerous rambling e-mails. Take my word for it-AVOID HER.
Probably the easiest teacher in the Psychology Department. The tests come straight from the textbook and notes. Some of the questions don't even need much thought. Dr. Friedman is also very nice and helpful to all who need help or clarification about a concept. The class was really interesting and I'm probably going to take another class with her.
Behavior Disorders is a great class. Every Psychology major should take this class with Friedman. She knows how to teach the material well. The book wasn't too bad either but it was pretty long and wordy. Some of the videos shown in class was pretty interesting. Probably the easiest A I've taken.
Terrible professor. Her lectures are extremely disorganized and would be characterized as nonacademic. Her lectures do not correspond AT ALL with the exam. Psychology is treated as a science at Binghamton, she teaches the class from a pop-culture view, which I find extremely annoying. Brutally easy class, but I felt like my money was wasted.
I have taken a few classes with her but this was my favorite. She is a very smart woman. Go to office hours and she will tell you what you need to know for the test. I also like the textbook so you're getting the best of both by taking it with her.
Behavior Disorders is a very interesting class. Friedman knows how to teach it well but the tests can be hard if you don't know how to study for them. Outline the textbook and study days in advance. She's also very helpful and usually reviews the material on the exam during lecture. She gives extra credit randomly for attendance.
Nice, but very unorganized and confused. She does try to have organization, but just can't seem to grasp it. Also, she never gives you a direct answer. "Well, in essence.." is her go to explanation. Also, she is big on giving you an example or case study to read, instead of answering your questions. Expect a lot of emails as well.
Do yourself a large favor, and avoid taking any class with her. Terrible class, learned nothing.
I have learned a lot from Dr. Friedman. She really knows a lot about the material. The book is kind of long and drawn out. Tests come from textbook and class notes. I'd definitely go because she occasionally takes attendance.
The class was a joke. Tests were very easy and she's a very good teacher. Go to office hours as much as possible and outline the entire textbook.
Pretty easy class. She's very nice and approachable. Tests were straight forward and followed the textbook mostly.
I thought that she was great. The material was very easy to breakdown and the tests were easy to prepare for. It's important to go to class because she shows videos and puts them on the exam.
Very interesting course. The book she has us read is very thorough and easy to understand. She wants everyone to learn the material well and the tests are pretty easy if you read the textbook frequently. She also posts review questions and the power points on blackboard which was really helpful.
Shes a mess
I had to take this class as a pre-req for nursing and I thought it would be super easy. She is awful, she never explains herself, she puts essays on Bb about nothing but her feelings, she doesn't answer questions EVER, she doesn't test on anything in the book (or class material). You'll never know whats on her tests. I'd rate 0's if possible!
Dev Psych is a fascinating subject, but she was just an awful teacher. I learned EVERYTHING from the textbook. No one knew what to expect on tests, so we were always unprepared. You have to go to class because she gives "pop assignments" (that she uses to take attendance) but you learn nothing there. One of the worst, most disorganized teachers.
Friedman is a pathetic excuse for a professor. It is beyond me that this woman remains tenured at a respected university like Binghamton. She is absolutely incompetent and flat out rude to students. Her "teaching" style consists of showing up to class late and disorganized (when she doesn't cancel), and rambling aimlessly about unrelated topics.
She seems like a great person, but in class, it's a whole different story. The class material is relatively easy, but the test are much tougher than you would think. She cannot teach well, and she goes off on a tangent half of the class. If you want to do well, read the textbook thoroughly and any articles she posts. Lectures are not necessary.
Dev Psych isn't a bad class but Friedman is not a good professor. I learned the material from the textbook. Her lectures are boring and disorganized.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HER. She was very unclear and couldn't answer many questions. Made dev psych incredibly boring. The tests were pretty easy and if you read the textbook and read over lecture notes you should be okay though. Slow grader and doesn't seem to care much about how bored we all were in lecture.
SHE SUCKS. Assigned chapters and then gave tests on completely irrelevant information. Does random activities in class for attendance. Honestly she seems like she has no clue what she is talking about and goes on many tangents. If you can avoid taking this class with her, do.
Relied 100% on the textbook. This woman has no idea what she's talking about. She didn't even know what her own tests were on. The material itself was easy, but I was excited to take this class and she really ruined it for me.
She's pretty out of it, but to be honest, it wasn't that hard. I just showed up to class, read every chapter once, and I was able to opt out of the fourth and final test because I was averaging a 98. Just show up and ignore the notion that she's impossible because everyone likes to complain about her.
actually has no idea what is going on. very unhelpful. if you don't have to take a course with her i highly recommend you dont.
She is unbearable. The class material from the text isn't hard at all but her tests make no sense. I read the text and prepared well only to get 80's. Go to class for the 'pop assignments'. GET A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR IF YOU CAN
Her lectures are basically useless, she has a "reverse classroom" where you have to teach yourself all the material from the book and then you go to class to 'apply' it through a 260 person discussion. She doesn't directly answer any questions. She is unorganized, she doesn't know how to work a computer, the list goes on.
I learned more from reading the textbook than from going to class. She was often unprepared for lecture, appeared very uncomfortable lecturing to students, and did not present herself as an authority in the field. I felt like my tuition money was wasted on this class. The psych dept. at BU is excellent. Take the class with someone eles.
Alice Friedman is a fascinating specimen to observe, but she is in no way a good professor. Avoid classes with her at all cost. You may get a good grade, but you will learn absolutely nothing about the subject matter. A majority of her class time will be spent trying to teach you Research Psychology even if you're taking an irrelevant class.
If you are taking this class because you are interested in the content, find another professor! Dev Psych isn't hard, however, she has no idea how to teach and is so spacey that you won't learn a thing. You can read the book to learn but her tests are still somewhat unpredictable. Must attend the terrible lecture for "pop assignment" points. AVOID!
Dr. Friedman has the best of intentions and seems like a nice person, but her class really suffers from her disorganization. The content wasn't difficult but she was a tough grader on papers. I was put off by her coming late to class almost every day, not knowing where we were in the syllabus, and becoming defensive when students ask questions.
If you can, avoid this class. I know some classes can just be bad and you teach yourself, but you are unable to do that in this class. Criteria and expectations of knowledge are vague, her lessons are disorganized and confusing, and her test format is very unpredictable. It is possible to get through this class with decent grades, but is a pain!
Avoid taking this class with her. Dr. Freidman is very disorganized and this year she changed her teaching style so her test questions primarily come from case studies with many multiple right answers. She isnt very receptive to emails from students and when you go to office hours she is pretty much looking for ways to get you to leave.
She isn't ever prepared for lecture and tells you that you don't need a textbook only to tell you that you should have one a couple days later. I honestly don't know why I show up every day, because it seems pointless. She gives ridiculous tests followed by large amounts of extra credit, so I don't know what she thinks she's doing.
Is very knowledgeable. But she is unclear and the student is basically always wrong. Says textbook is unnecessary, but later says don't expect to good without it. Hard to approach and at times is borderline rude. Very excessive about cheating. She does give you a good idea where she derives test questions. Most students say tests are confusing.
She was the most inconsistent and unorganized professor I've ever had. She designed her class to be "different" than other classes, and apparently that gave her liberty to change things whenever she wanted. She said a textbook was unnecessary at first, then told us she never said that and that a textbook was needed. Terrible professor.
I've taken 3 classes with Dr. Friedman. Her classes are very easy and she's a great teacher. She knows the material well and is always available for students during office hours. However, she doesn't always respond to emails on time. The exams are straightforward. In order to do well, it is imperative to read the textbook and go to class.
If you're looking for an "Easy A", definitely consider taking a course with Dr. Friedman. The material is very straightforward and she is always available for extra help. The tests were extremely easy but you have to read the textbook inside and out in order to do well.
Do not take this class. She was the most disorganized teacher I have had in my life, and by no means an effective teacher. I was excited to take this class, and the textbook was interesting, but the class was an unbelievable disaster. You will get nothing out of it, and just be extremely frustrated with her.
Terrible. Had to take it bc no other seminars were available. She is disorganized and makes the class and everything about it unnecessarily stressful. She was never on time, never prepared, and constantly changing her mind about due date, concepts, everything. I read these reviews and thought "How bad can it be?" Its bad. Trust me. 0/10
Prof Friedman is consistently unorganized and almost incoherent during lecture has poor slideshows, and somewhat of a meek, unsure disposition; a contrast to the long and relatively passive-aggressive emails she sends out condemning students for reaching out to her. If you take this class, cling to the textbook, and you should do relatively well.
Unorganized, rambling lectures, sometimes on subjects unrelated to what will be on exams. When she does go over exam material, she does not cover all of it; textbook necessary. Oddly aggressive in emails to class and changes dates of tests frequently.
By far the worst professor I've ever had at Bing. She thought it made sense to teach a lesson on something after giving a test on it, leaving us to teach ourselves the chapter through the textbook. She goes on random rants and is extremely disorganized. She changes tests dates and tried to offer only half the class extra credit. Terrible teacher.
Friedman seems to be knowledgable in her field but would not recommend this class. Tests were based solely off of textbook reading therefore rendering her lectures relatively useless. Very lenient with making up/ moving exams around which wasn't always a good thing. Seems to be frazzled by students easily and does not put her foot down.
Dr Friedman is funny and nice, however the class was dry. Her lectures are not interesting and it's unclear on how to study for tests. The tests aren't too hard, but you have to study and do well on them for an A. She can be hard to follow sometimes. She also taught this course (behavioral disorders) only from a child perspective, which I didnt like
Alice Friedman needs an hour dedicated to her on National Geographic. This woman is a specimen to observe in her habitat. She's quite knowledgable about psychology research and strictly pediatric abnormal behavior, but hasn't quite figured out how to properly teach this knowledge to other people. Most disorganized living being on planet earth. 0/10
DO NOT take her unless you have to. Horrible professor. Things she lectured in class were hardly on exams, but she takes attendance 2 or 3 times with an in class assignment. She says that in order to do well, you must read the textbook. Reading and outlining the textbook, going to every class, and studying lecture notes, only got me a B.
Her lectures are insanely boring. I got pretty much nothing out of going to them. You have to memorize the textbook to study (also you can find a pdf online). She doesn't do anything to actually try and teach. She's a nice person, but a bad teacher. Don't take this class unless you have to.
Would not recommend this professor. Lectures were incredibly confusing/not helpful and the professor was very unorganized. Many multiple choice test questions were opinion based. She also told the lecture that depression is "just a personality trait" and "I don't believe in statistics." Difficult to do well in the class as it's very confusing.
Horrible professor!!!!! DO NOT TAKE!! She makes no sense whatsoever, cannot write clear exam questions, is no help outside of class, sends you 15 emails every single day that are 9 paragraphs long. Ridiculous. Not worth the effort.
Friedman is one of the most disorganized professors I've ever encountered. She is a nice woman and means well but is a horrible teacher. Her lectures are honestly useless and her exams are soo difficult because "all of the choices are correct but select the best one". Friedman doesn't plan her lectures well, leaving students frustrated and confused
she is the worst professor I have ever had. really do not take a class by her you will regret it!!!!
Dr. Friedman definitely gives you ample chances at an A or a B. If you simply glance at the readings then a B or better is by far possible if not likely. However, I feel as if she prefers smaller class sizes because she tries to do group work quite often. This ends up a complete mess in a lecture hall of 220+ people. Her lectures can be dull.
Alice Friedman is the most disorganized woman on this earth. Her lectures are useless. I skipped all of them until she got mad that people only showed up for quizzes and decided MID SEMESTER to change everything. She threw out quizzes and changed them to "in class activities" (pointless and a waste of time), in order to make people attend class.
She is a very boring lecturer and you will probably learn nothing in her class. I love developmental psychology but it seems like she has no interest in the subject. Her class is dry and confusing. There are curves on all tests and quizzes because they are so hard and everyone does awful.
Lectures are slow and boring, but mandatory because she gives out in class assignments RANDOMLY- and they count for your grade. Tests are difficult and all multiple choice, but all choices are similar & she says choose the best option... I wouldnt take this class.
Dr. Friedman is a nice woman, but she's an airhead. She has high expectations that are impossible to meet and has no idea what she's doing. Additionally, her lectures are boring and provide no use at all. 90% of my grade depends on a paper and a presentation which is submitted during the last week of class. It is extremely nerve racking.
She is by far the worst teacher I've ever had the misfortune of having. Her lectures are incredibly slow and dull. On the day of our first test she spent a solid 10 minutes explaining to us how to take a test, as though we havent already taken a million just to get to this point. I have been teaching this class to myself. Do not take her class.
She is knowledgeable. However, her strong suit is not in teaching. If you want to pass, attend the lectures, copy all the slides, which she does not post, and read the textbook. Other than that, just have information that may not be necessary ready for exams. It will help in boosting your grade.
This professor mumbles through all lectures and provides a page disclaimer before each test excusing her for grammar errors and stating more than one answer may be correct. By the end of the semester, over half the class stopped attending the lecture. The school tried to fire her years ago, you can look up the lawsuit online. Do not take her.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF SHE IS TEACHING. She is one of the worst professors I have ever had. You can't understand anything she says, and her lectures are boring, so I teach myself the material. She is rude, and is not accommodating to the students. The only good thing is that the material in the textbook is interesting.
Shes awful her tests are based for the most part on her opinion and her lectures are boring and she doesnt take attendance. Avoid classes with her.
Alice Friedman is beyond awful. As a teacher she is argumentative, unaccommodating, rude and genuinely detrimental to her students mental health. She has been known to say inaccurate and abrasive things. Such as depression and anxiety are in your head and referring to LGBTQ+ as a disease . Avoid at all costs if you wish to keep your sanity.
Professor Friedman is one of the most disorganized people i have ever met in my entire life. He lectures are dry and useless. She hasnt been quoted saying I dont lecture on course content?? This class was the bane of my existence this semester. Reading comments yall are thinking, it couldnt be that bad right? Wrong, it is. Avoid at all costs.
Would not recommend this professor. Lectures were incredibly confusing/not helpful and the professor was very unorganized. Many multiple choice test questions were opinion based. Throughout the semester I emailed her over 8 times and did not receive a single response. She was very standoffish, rude, and abrasive. Do not take her class. Will regret.
i honestly have no idea what just happened for the past 4 months
AWFUL. worst human and teacher I have ever met.
This class was a mess. I was genuinely interested in the class but found myself learning very little. Professor Friedman is nice but often seemed lost and did not present the material effectively. Her lecture material is outdated and sometimes seems as though she did not know what she was teaching. Does not respond to questions well.
Seemed relatively nice, albeit disorganized and flippant. Then one day out of the blue she called my out in front of a class of 25 people, questioning why I was in the class and belittling me for not participating enough. For the record, I've suffered from social anxiety for years. You'd think a clinical psychologist might've recognized this.
This professor is the worst professor I have ever seen. She is completely unreceptive to students questions, and she doesnt know what shes talking about. She contradicts the textbook then refuses to answer questions about it. She emailed us at 12am claiming that incivility wont be tolerated, but only incivility is students asking questions.
DO NOT choose her as a professor. Lectures were slow and redundant, she wasted so much lecture time talking about irrelevant information, she hardly ever responded to my emails, and I've received 1 out of 4 test grades and they are all due by today.
PLEASE DONT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER she is a very nice person, but her lectures have almost nothing to do with the textbook. I swear to god we had to read a chapter about personality disorders and her lecture was about rats and the APA. I learned everything from the textbook. bad experience.
she seems like a nice person but is actually one of the most vindictive and disrespectful professors ive ever had. instead of constructive criticism on papers, she leaves rude comments that do not encourage improvements or better ideas. she outwardly hates psychology but is an upper level psych seminar professor and administration doesnt care.
By FAR the worst professor I ever had. She quite literally avoided us for the last couple weeks of the semester because we were fed up with her not teaching us anything. She does not respond well to criticism and spent weeks bringing up the syllabus instead of teaching us the content. Do not take her class unless you want to be frustrated 24/7.
A scatterbrained, hot mess express. Definitely the most unstructured and disorganized course i've ever taken at BU. She takes FOREVER to get grades back, and we learned essentially nothing the entire semester. However, as long as you submit the (3) papers and do well on the midterm/final, you'll get a good grade. Still, I would avoid this seminar.
Your grade is the average of 4 exams. To get Bs, you should not only read textbooks but also do mindtap practices because there are questions from mindtap word for word. Before I purchased mindtap (about 100$) and read textbook only for the 1st exam: 68%. After I purchase mindtap: 88%. To be honest, I feel like buying 20 points.
If you're a psych major and need to take Behavior Disorders, don't take it in the fall with Dr. Friedman. Going to lecture is a waste of time, you learn nothing, and the whole grade is based off just the 4 tests, all based off the textbook readings. You spend the semester reading every page of the book, taking notes, and teaching yourself,
Relies on a program (that you have to pay for) to do her teaching. She seems to specialize in childrens psych which isnt too helpful for Behavior Disorders. Graded by 4 exams. Her curves save you. Steer clear of taking classes with her
Never talked about any test material during lecture, and if you didn't read the textbook cover to cover you're not going to get a good grade in the class. Avoid taking this class with her if possible.
She is nice but does not really know how to communicate. She knows her subject well but does not actually talk about things scheduled. She does not put effort into answering emails within 3-5 business days. I have gone months sending emails, reminders, reminding her in class, and still getting no response. Terrible experience.
This has to be one of the easiest if not the easiest class I've taken at Binghamton university. She gets a bad wrap for literally not teaching anything and you most likely won't learn a thing. That being said her tests are online open book and her presentations can be done by taking a video of yourself. If you want an easy seminar take this.
Besides for learning a lot from this class I can say that not enough good things can be said about Dr Friedman. Literally the sweetest person. Highly recommend. she will help you with every aspect in life and is highly experienced. Very easy class: Source: Trust me bro
This class is an easy A if you follow the simple requirements. The open-book exams and video presentations make it a breeze. Unstuck ai can be a helpful study tool too. Just don't expect to learn much.
Professor Friedman might be the most loony professor I've ever had. I'm convinced I didn't learn a thing in this class - the bright side: you dont get tested on anything either. Two online exams that are open book, and two essays (7 pages each). A great place to get work from other classes completed. Easy A, but don't take if wanna learn.
super easy, interesting class. Friedman knows a lot about child psychology and grades with incredible lenience. She writes super long brightspace posts and emails but that never hurt anybody. She is kind, bring candy to class everyday, and likes to chat. Love
she could be worse, i dont think she ever really graded anything due to how late i turned my work in and how low effort it was but im not complaining. she rambles on and on making class very hard to follow as there are rarely visuals and she seems to talk about whatever she wants instead of anything helpful. i learned nothing new in this class
Very very easy A, however, if you are looking to actually learn, then dont take this class. She is not a good teacher and makes no sense. She rambles about nothing and class is boring. 2 online tests, 2 video presentations.
