She really cares for the students. The class is in spanish, and can be difficult if you've never had it before, but she will explain things in english if you're confused. The only bad part about the class is Quia, and that's a department policy, not hers!

Best Spanish teacher I've ever had. She talks pretty fast, and after spring break her English is a little rusty, but overall she's really helpful. You can completely butcher a sentence, and she'll correct you and praise you as if you spoke perfectly. Her self-description as a "sympathetic native speaker" is dead-on.

One big problem with Sra. Almada: you must ask all questions (including grammar) in Spanish. If we knew how to ask those questions we wouldn't be in elementary Spanish, right? Everyone in my class is afraid to ask questions because she gets really irritated if it's in English. As a result, we don't learn anything from her.

She is a nice person, but is not a good teacher. The class is not weighted properly at all. Even if you get A's on major assignments (tests, compositions, interviews) you will still get a B. Quia exercises are impossible and they are weighted as much as tests and even if you put a good effort into your homework you can still get a ZERO!

Professor Almada was a great professor for FLSP 1020. The structure of the class itself requires a lot of homework, and participation in class is extremely important; however, she was very sweet and understanding about assignments. She tried to make lectures light hearted. She expects a lot, but if you participate, shell appreciate it.

Sra. Almada is literally the nicest person on the planet. She really loves her students and brought us food multiple times. She expects you to participate in class. She also cheers every time someone answers a question right. Her lectures can be confusing because she jumps around a little, but she is very willing to answer questions.

Do not take. Her class sets you up for failure and her rubrics do not make any sense. And when you reach out for better understanding she seems to never get back to you. I took Spanish to help me gain a better feel for the language and culture and all the class is, is busy work on top of busy work. There are better profs out there, do not take her.

I absolutely love Professor Almada. She is a very kind lady and genuinely cares for her students. She makes my day. For cultural learning she brings in items and snacks for show and tell. Her class is difficult so be prepared to study a lot. There are 2 exams, a final, 2 compositions, and a presentation. Homework due every Mon., Wed., and Fri.

Very kind and caring woman, but will never take her again. Incredibly tough for elementary Spanish and if you do not do everything EXACTLY by her guidelines she will take many points off. I did asynchronous and our class fell to 7 people by the final. I only got an A because I've taken Spanish my whole life, so if you haven't, do not take her.

Sra. Almada is empathetic and caring and does not grade harshly (in my experience). She gets really excited whenever a student answers correctly or has a "lightbulb" moment. It is a flipped classroom, so unless you're already familiar with spanish from high school, you'll be doing lots of reading/assignments on your own to keep up. not too bad tho!

Decent teacher, grading is kind of open ended sometimes and she doesn't respond to emails in a super timely manner but an easy enough teacher to get along with. Personally she was always very condescending to me, calling me out in class when she knew I was confused. Also continuously mocks you. If you can deal with it, it's not a hard class at all.

Sra. Almada was an extremely caring professor and really enjoyed engaging with her students. She sets you up for success by providing alternate material from the textbook, as it can get redundant and confusing. This class utilized a flipped classroom and the homework is due the night before each class meeting. With some work, you will make an A.

I loved Sra. Almada (Sp. 2020) but this is a class that you do need to go to and actually participate in. With the flipped classroom you have to do homework (specifically readings and short films) to get participation points in class. As long as you do the homework and actually participate in class I would say it's easy to get an A.

Senora Almada is a GREAT person. I love her, but the fact that her first language is Spanish tends to create a barrier in her ability to teach. This class is HARD and honestly really effected my ability to enjoy Spanish like I used to, I even considered dropping my minor over this class. The flipped classroom is a flaw of the department, not her.

Make sure to participate in class - speaking is mandatory! Exams are only 30% and very clear-cut. No surprises. She is very accessible outside of class but has a tendency to embarrass you (call you out) if you are wrong in class. Outside of that, very good professor and does not grade hard. Use the textbook to study! Highly recommend for 2020.

She is nice, but she will not really think about other people's concerns that involve things outside of class. For a writing exam correction, a girl forgot her original writing, and the grade was in canvas already, she said she would get a 0% if she did not have it. So the girl had to run home and grab it and bring it back before the end of class.
