Talks way too fast during the leture. The way she explains the topics are not clear at all and it makes it kind of hard to understand everything over all.. alot of people in my class are failing sooo
I literally just dropped the class. I just needed to fill a science class and thought this class would be easy. turns out I was wrong. she goes too fast has too many pop quizzes and teaches the class as if it was a higher level course. Not to mention, the exams are 6 chapters worth of material which is way too much.
Dr Bray is a very ick teacher who works very fast during labs although she is always available for help beware of her pop quizzes
She is a nice person, but does a lot of topics QUICKLY. Exams are worth a lot, ONE out of the four exam = almost all quiz, hmrk, etc. Exams are really difficult.
Dr.Bray is the definition of an"old school" professor ~ which can be a good thing. Lab quizzes are given each week & are relatively tough at times. Lab Report was graded fairly. She's always available for help. Very devoted & EXCITED to teach. She's into insects so she talks about that a lot. & says "GO YOU" as well lol. Overall: great proff
I was skeptical and a little excited for Dr. Bray's Entomology class during the summer semester, but I would recommend it to anyone. The class material was very interesting and with her energetic attitude, I was engaged from day one. She goes fast but not faster then your pen can write. If you take good notes then you will be fine.
take more quizzes helped a lot
The test are somewhat hard, you cant skip class often, and she gives you a lot of take home quizzes. The take home quizzes help your grade a lot and she is an overall great teacher. Biology is a hard course in general but I think she helps to make it easier.
Very helpful. If you ask
She is enthusiastic about the subject and makes it very clear of what she expects you to understand. Her quizzes will help alot. Take notes on bug of the dayweek because it will help on tests. She is very understanding and is ALWAYS willing to help!
Her class is NOT an easy A, but an A is attainable if you put in the work. The work for bio 121 anyhow was pretty much all reading and taking quizzes in order to prepare for exams. Take the quizzes seriously because even though they're each worth 10-12 points they do add up. Dont expect to get a good grade if you dont read the material thoroughly.
had for 121, 122 and research. She is an amazing professor, everything is clear in lab and lecture. She will teach you how to study if that's what your struggling with, explains things very well at office hours. Don't take if your lazy If you trystudy she'll make you feel good even if you failed, she genuinely cares about your learning.
The best professor I've ever had! If I were staying at CCSU I would take every class she teaches. She cares about each and every student and will put time aside just to make sure everyone understands and is just generally happy. She even sat down with me for hours to talk about medical school.
Had Dr. Bray in Bio 290 course. She was great, classes were engaging & fun. Had little homework/classwork. The class is mainly at stats class.. so it gets repetitive after awhile... 3 exams (all group exams) & one big group presentation on a research article of our group's choice. She's a fair grader & is always available for extra help!!
Dr. Bray was one of the best professors I've had. We had 3 exams within the semester that were all from online quizzes she gave (quizzes can be taken as many times as you want to get 10/10) she gives lots of extra credit on tests and the final was all questions from previous tests which she put on blackboard. She's very helpful and resourceful!
She was an awesome professor my problem was I always forgot to do her online quizzes which is why I failed her class the first semester but other than that she was always there to offer help and worked with you to bring up your grade.
Go to class if you want to get an A. Study hard and study everything if you want to pass her exam. Very nice
The only way to do well is by reading every chapter from the textbook that is covered. Her lectures are only reviews of the reading. It isn't possible to do well just by attending lectures. Each test has embedded extra credit, which can cusion your grade if you didn't do well.
She's kind of annoying, she always has to be right. When you ask questions she reiterates that she answered them in class, but obviously if I had gotten the answer I wouldn't be asking. However, she knows her stuff, and she will help you if it's needed.
She makes sure that everyone understands what to do in lab and is willing to go over something a 2nd/3rd time. Expect a pop quiz on material from the previous week and the purpose of the current week's lab. They only take 5 minutes, ask about the overall topic, and can help boost grades; she drops the lowest one. She also reads over the lab report
I had her when I was an entry level bio student and am now a senior and would probably consider her my least favorite professor out of every class I've taken. class is time consuming but if you're a bio major you need to master these basics. My main complaint is she's rude, condescending, and not very interested in answering questions.
She is not a great professor. If you enjoy a mystery exam then this is your gal. She tells you to read the 9 chapters you read the whole semester and not even give you a hint of whats going to be on the test. She also doesnt post her slide shows which would be great if she did. Beware if you take her, you'll definitely regret it.
Watching paint dry for an hour and twenty minutes is more entertaining than sitting in this class. The class is dry as a bone. Self taught as well. She says she's there to help but thats bull. Exam reviews are pointless. She doesn't go over specifics just tells you to read the chapts (that helps). read the book, do the online quizzes u should be ok
Had one of her advanced topics courses, really great professor. Took feedback on what parts of her first exam challenged students and picked it around the second time so that it would be more concise. Everyone improved, open to feedback so long as the feedback isn't to put the powerpoints on blackboard. A good prof for higher level courses.
She is a good teacher and her tests are just like in class lectures! Just study your notes from her powerpoints and you'll be fine! She also does a really cool before class topic. Either about bugs, father's wisdom, etc. She tries to make the class have fun!
The teaching style is different from anything I've experienced at CCSU before. Lectures are super confusing and non-helpful. She also told me I could only use my medical accommodations if it "didn't distract the other students." Ummm.... She's legally required to allow them? I ended up dropping the class, it was too confusing and difficult.
Dr. Bray is a gem. She's extremely enthusiastic about what she does and truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Talk to her about insects and she'll love you! Her quizzes and exams are super easy. Since she teaches upper level courses, you're going to have to put in the work for the grade. She's more than willing to help!
She is so enthusiastic about teaching. She makes you work for that A but she is very helpful too. I find it hilarious in the previous comments on this page when a Bio 121 student complains how hard Dr Bray is..... Son, you are only in Bio 121... it will only get tougher from here...
Dr. Bray is enthusiastic about what she teaches and wants to see her students succeed. She is more than available in her office or through email and wants to make sure you understand the material. This class is cool because she lets you take exams in groups of 4. Study the material and if you don't understand just ask!
You should read the book, but you can probably survive without it. Dr. Bray really wants you to succeed and will help you out in whatever way she can. However, she doesn't really listen to suggestions well. Her online quizzes are essentially free points on your grade, so do them! She also falls behind often - we missed the last 4 chapters on plants
She gives online quizzes which are 15% of your grade and can be a grade booster. For the exams she doesnt give a study guide she just tells you what chapters will be on the exam. The exams are half multiple choice and half short answer. In order to see your exam you have to go to her office hours.
Talks loud and fast. Acts like she is talking to 5 year olds some times. But she is fair - what she says is what happens and if you do her work, and study what she tells you, then you will pass just fine. Exams are practically a combination of the online quizzes. Online quizzes can be taken as many times as you want and server as good study materia
Bray is a great teacher. Lectures can be a bit lacking and her powerpoints are not available outside of class but correlate with the book very well. She is always available to meet out of class tho and is always in a great mood. Stay off your phone though or she will answer it for you lol
Dr. Bray is a wonderful teacher. My only difficulty was retaining information from the biological component of our course (Invasive Species) just because you had to remember the information by rote. She is very thorough and makes herself available. She will not post her PPT's, so attendance is crucial.
Professor Bray was hard don't get me wrong. I'm not a Bio major or anything of that sort. And this was a Bio major & non major course. YOU have to put in the effort. She wants everyone to pass. Read, take the online quizzes (those help the most and you can study the questions later), and of ask her questions! She is really nice and helpful!
Amazing teacher! She is always willing to work with you outside the classroom and wants everyone to succeed.
Professor Bray is a nice lady, but she lectures like she is teaching elementary kids. It's almost insulting as an upperclassmen. She also threatens to take away disability services if they are distracting to her??? The online quizzes are great, but the class could be done out of the book and her mandatory lectures are a waste of time to sit in
Dr. Bray is incredibly knowledgeable and makes this gen-ed class fun, interesting, and actually useful for real-life issues. She is a fun professor and loves questions. Powerpoints are super clear and she only has super easy online quizzes and her tests are a breeze as long as you take notes.
This isn't a class you can skate by in, but it's doable. Bray is eccentric but really nice, and will sit with you for every office hour if you want. You really have to listen to the lectures. Do the quizzes on blackboard until you get 10s on them all, they're an easy grade booster/study method. 3 exams (she drops the lowest), 1 cumulative final.
I personally love Bray. Great personality, but can seem unsure of the information shes telling you. However she is always available outside of class and would rather teach you 1 on 1 than in a lecture. She genuinely wants you to succeed. Only downfall is she doesnt post her powerpoints online so if you miss a class youll have to read. Fair tests.
I love Dr. Bray!! She's a sweetheart, but don't be fooled because you have to go to all the labs and you have to do the lab reports and hand them in on time. She gives lab quizzes but they're easy credit.
Attendance wasn't mandatory but you definitely should go. Dr. Bray was really respectful and cared about your grade in the class
There is a lot of material and she wants specifics on exams; can be picky. Exams are open-ended and mostly based off notes. As she doesn't post slides online, you have to go to class to get notes. There is homework to improve grades but she is very unorganized about assigning it. She does want you to succeed and will help by email or office hours.
Pros: unlimited tries on online quizzes. Can spend as much time as you want asking questions both in and out of class. Cons: despite having unlimited tries on quizzes, the material being quizzed is more often than not what was discussed in class. Her PowerPoints dont help at all. Youll need to hear everything she says in order to get the notes
It is a topics course: bio invasions. Although it is an interesting course... It was hard to digest the lecture material, listen to everyone 15 minute presentation (too much info for that time period - guidelines matter!), grad student 45 min lecture, and alot of case studies... Needs to be a seminar class or a solid lecture course.. poor structure
Introductory bio? HA! This was by far the hardest course I've taken at CCSU. I have Dr. Bray for a 9:25 and she is SO LOUD and just reads off of slides. Our next exam has 5 chapters on it and the final is cumulative. AND THIS IS FOR INTRO BIO?? I'm a very good student and have never taken a class as hard as Dr. Brays. literally the worst thing ever
Nice professor but doesn't tell you what is on the exams. She is always open for office hours which is helpful. There are no study guides for exams and expects us to know everything even though it is a 100 level class.
For an entry level bio class, she doesnt do you any favors. Her tests do not reflect what was in class. You cant even see what the correct answer is in your tests/quizzes if you get it wrong. On top of it all she talks to you like your a child Try to avoid
She's nice, but very vague, and doesn't respond kindly to suggestions. Doesn't post powerpoints, and online quizzes don't display answers. I give a 1 rating because this class is taught with an independent learning style, but it wasn't mentioned in the course description. It's an easy class if you already know everything, and just want the credit
There's no book because she insists her lecture is enough to study, but its not. She doesn't post slides, and doesn't allow any electronics in the classroom. She also discourages questions from people because they're a hindrance to the class. Her class has some structure, but it's tough to follow. Test's are half multi choice, and half written
Grades are only based on how you do on the exams and online quizzes. She doesnt post power points on BB. Would be more helpful if she would let us see the correct answer when we get an answer wrong on the online quizzes.
She gives you online quizzes with a clear due date that you can take as many times as youd like for a good grade. Theres no required textbook, you have to pick one on your own but she gives recommendations. The exams are some multiple choice some open ended. Her teaching style isnt for everyone, clearly with more independence than other courses
Professor Bray is a great person, but I would not recommend anyone to take her class unless they are a biology major. Exams are about applying your notes from lecture (which are very vague) and consists of multiple choice and short answers. Online quizzes are a must because they will help your grade. No HW and little structure to course. AVOID!
This course is awful, her study guides for the test is horrible because she puts like 200 questions. A lot of students (including myself) are struggling. I tried to get help while emailing her but she doesnt bother to respond. I remember when I couldnt come for the exam because I had a flu. She said there is no make-up for the exam. Avoid this!
Im currently taking one of her online quizzes that she did not even fully cover yet. &we only get 10 minutes for a 10 question quiz? How am I going to read, understand, answer, and retain the information in that short of time. This isn't "so cool" Alicia. "I am here to help you succeed" my butt, yea ok. Avoid this one at all costs
I'm a bio. major & I loved Bray's 121 class. She really stresses retaining the information and structures her tests in a way that requires you to apply what you've learned. Her office hours are lit and she'll show you her tarantulas while she helps you with the material. Don't let her catch you using your phone or she'll feed you to her insects.
Dr. Bray is the absolute worst professor Ive ever had. Ive taken her multiple times now, and this semester was the icing on the cake for me. She in no way, shape, or form helps anyone succeed as she so claims , in fact, she hinders success of students. Her attitude is piss poor, condescending, arrogant, and argumentative.
Professor's Bray doesn't really have much sympathy if you don't care to be in her class, even if it is just for General Education courses. She expects you to put in x-amount of hours in every week to study. Her tests are very hard but she drops the lowest one, still hard to pass those though. What helped me grade was the Lab
Do you have friends, hobbies, things you enjoy doing other than studying? Not anymore!
Consisted of reading a paper then taking a quiz that can be retaken for a better grade. Then you watch videos. The videos are fun facts and are really awesome. Theres a test after each chapter. As long as you pay attention and just read and listen to the videos you should get an A. Awesome professor.
Dr. Bray cares about her students, without exceptions. It does not matter if you have a D or an A, she will always make time for you. I took her for bio 121 (the first bio class) and *earned* a C. I worked my butt off for that C, she was the profs. who taught me how to study, I have only earned A's in every other bio class since then.
Attend class! she is super nice but she is too fast paced. she expects everyone to be very prepared BIOmajor or gen ed. There is a chapter quiz every week (10 questions but you can take it as many times as u want. But it will most likely never be the same 10 questions if you retake), and the exams are very hard (usually 50 questions and50 min limit
I dont recommend taking this Professor , not a good professor, doesnt post any lecture slides and makes exams impossible, worst CCSU Professor
Your better learning from a textbook. Take another Professor!!! When I took her final, studied for 10 days prior, to my surprise, nothing she teaches in class is on exam. Your wasting money by taking her class
Although this class is very challenging at times you can tell Dr Bray REALLY cares about her students and wants them to succeed in her class. She is basically a motivational speaker and has a good sense of humor. She will always help students out and wants to make sure students fully understand the material instead of memorizing answers. Girlboss
Dont take this class unless u want a drop in your GPA. Shes constantly unprepared didnt have her PowerPoint gives quizzes pretty much every week. 3 Exams. Very lecture heavy. On top of that she didnt know what she was talking about. Worst prof ive had yet.
This professor is terrible. Constantly gets off track. Doesn’t clearly explain the material. Overall her exams are difficult and included material not covered in class. Wouldn’t take again.
Horrible teacher, doesn't post slide from lecture, doesn't hand back exams to see how you did nor does she give out a study guide so you don't really know how you're doing in class. Grades hard, makes exams the weekend before the exam, overall terrible.
I have taken her course for gedEd requirement but this was the most challenging college course I have taken so far! quiz every week , two midterms and a cumulative final! A lot of reading . Tough course to get a good grade.
This is a bio class, so it's expected to be tough, but she's always available to help you understand the material and truly wants you to succeed. Dr. Bray will always apply topics to the real world and shows you why what you're learning is important. She also has a good sense of humor.
This class is decently difficult (15 Quizzes, 3 Exams, Final, and routine HW) and the exams usually 50 MC questions with some short answer questions. She does however have a great sense of humor and is very personable during lecture. I HIGHLY recommend getting to know her during office hours as she really does care about your success!
From 1st glance, 15 quizzes, 3 exams and a final seem like a lot to take in, but Dr. Bray gives the quizzes an unlimited amount of attempts until they are closed, and she will grade the highest. She also drops your lowest test grade. Dr. Bray is extremely kind and clearly cares about the future of all of her students.
Dr. Bray displayed several ableist behaviors during my class. I was only allowed to use my accommodations (a laptop to take notes) "if they don't distract others" which is illegal for her to say. I dropped the class after that and had to try again. I was a bio major and I changed my entire major due to this class.
The other reviews weren't lying about her being condescending. Not as helpful as other profs are during lab. The only reason we knew what was going on half of the time was because Dr. Abbas came to our lab to help us sometimes. She also does an ear shattering whistle when class "gets off topic" for a few seconds, and I think she likes doing it.
EXTREMELY lecture heavy class, There is more than 2 hours of videos that you have to watch, and have graded notes on. Exams are very tough and really don't correlate with her lectures. She also has a weird way to explain things. Avoid at all costs.
I absolutely HATED this class. I loved anatomy. Professor Bray ruined it all for me. I no longer have a spark for learning about the human body. Imagine being held against your will every single time you come to class? She gives out 4 different attendance sheets to ensure that no one leaves. My advice? Do NOT take AP lab with Dr. Bray.
Dr. Bray is an amazing professor. Her lectures were so helpful, and she uploaded videos of the lectures as well. She wants all her students to succeed. Take all the quizzes as much as possible, ask questions, and go to office hours if needed. Buy the book too. If you work hard, you will get a good grade. She is so passionate and very funny too.
Love Dr. Bray, have taken her for multiple courses. She's clear about her expectations from the start, but you need to be invested in the material to really understand it. Ask her about her bugs.
Dr. Bray was a great lab instructor, and very thorough in her lectures. She has high expectations, so get ready to meet those if you want to succeed in her class. She's very nice, helpful and available to her students both during class and has accessible office hours also. Would take her again if needed.
Dr. Bray is an egotistical professor. She expects everyone to fall in love with science and put 110% of their time time into it because she does. She talks down to her students and is always trying to "win" an argument. Her exams are worded differently than the study guides she posts so that way "it's harder to memorize the correct answer"PLS AVOID
I love Professor Bray's passion for the subject. Her voice can be irritating at times, but you won't leave class without learning something. You don't need to buy the textbook for this class. Stay on top of the assignments and study for the tests, and you'll be fine. I only got a C because I didn't care for this class; I just wanted to pass.
Why do negative review get removed? I had a bad experience with this professor. Period.
She was frustrating. Homework was to watch a lecture and take + submit notes. The next day the same exact lecture was given. It was easy to do however it felt like there was no point in going to class. She didn't get to know us, not even our names. The class was easy but not fun or enjoyable.
PLEASE STAY AWAY. Professor reads off slides, the class was SUPER difficult to understand when she would go off on side tangents. The exams were REALLY hard. She seems like a nice lady but she can be rude to students at time.
