This teacher is wonderful. I really enjoyed her class, as she was able to make such a broad and general subject interesting. It is imperative that you take notes. If you do, and do some slight studying you'll pass easily. It's also nice that she rids a lot of normal generic history and tells you a lot of stuff textbooks leave out sometimes.
Great professor, very helpful. The three hour class usually ended after about 2 hours. Here tests are relatively easy, you'll need to study hard for an A and for a B you don't need to study too much. You should definitely take her for this class.
Duffy is great! I had her for 2020 and 2020. Both courses she was extremely helpful. She's very understanding and takes feed back from students. Shes an aggressive teacher but a very good one. As long as you take all the notes you should be fine. I didn't crack either text book one time and I still got a B. An A would have been possible for sure.
Alicia Duffy is awesome! Not an easy class. Must study hard for her tests. Great at giving detailed notes. Gives study guide. Attendance is a must because she gives quizzes. I'm taking her again for 2020.
Good teacher, quizzies are random so showing up is recommended. You kind of get hints when they are comming though. Easy class as long as you go to it.
Overall good professor. She gives review sheets for the tests, which are composed of multiple choice, short and long essay questions. There are some pop quizzes but she usually gave hints to what day they'd be on. One paper..very easy, took only a couple hours. Go to class, take notes (there is a lot of them), and study for exams to pull off a A/B.
I took her for 2010 and 2020. She is absolutely a great professor and I would recommend her regardless of whether or not you like history. The tests cover a LOT of information, but if you come to class and take notes you will have all the information you need.
Awesome teacher, keeps it simple, lectures are interesting if you like history. Engages the students fairly well. show up to all classes and take notes, she gives occasional pop-quizes. Gives very accurate study guides for all exams, and grades pretty easy. NO EXCUSE NOT TO GET AN A. You can tell she loves what she does. Shes also kinda cute...
Very helpful... best history teacher that I've had. Makes the subject intresting and keeps you involved with the class. Definetly an easy A/B if you attend class. Book wasn't really used until she gives the study guide out, but even then she had everything in her notes. I Strongly recommend her.
Greatest history teacher i have ever had. i love the way she speaks and teaches she makes extremely easy to follow. taking notes is absolutely mandatory if you want to do anything in the class but she makes that easy. she lays it all down for you tests not easy, just study and its fine one easy paper that is not really a paper cuz she hates papers
duffy was great!! my fav class and i'm not a history major.. should go to class lots of notes.. you dont really need the text book i only used it once
Shes really nice. Great professor. Attendance is not mandatory but highly suggested. She gives random quizzes. Also, you should take notes during class for the tests. Tests are long and cover a lot of material. But she explains the material very well. I personally do not like history, but she made it bearable for me.
She's one of the nicest teachers I have had. I'm not really a fan of history, but I really enjoyed this class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it is highly suggestted. You have to be a good note taker to pass this class. She's straightforward with her notes and everything she talks about will be on the exams. Take her class, you'll enjoy it.
Prof. Duffy is extremely nice and you can really tell that she is very passionate about history. She doesn't give a very good review so tests are especially difficult if you dont study throughout the semester (cramming the night before does not work!!) Overall is was a pretty interesting class even though I have slim to no interest in history.
I LOVE DUFFYS!
professor duffy is amazing. she says she gives pop quizzes but she also gives you hints as to when they'll be, she lectures w/o slides and knows what she's talking about.
Professor duffy is completely amazing. If i had any other professor in the morning, I probably wouldn't go but her energy makes class fun. Test are long, attendance is important but not mandatory and she's really fair and gives hints about pop quizzes.
Best professor I have had. Very simple method of teaching, but very effective. Her tests are short answer/essay so you don't have to write obnoxious research papers like other history classes. She is a very fair grader and gives hints for pop quizzes. I liked her so much that I worked my next semester's schedule around her class time.
Fun, works with you, and if you study a little bit, it goes a long ways.
difficult class, but a great teacher. very interesting, straight forward, and fair. its a lot of material...but shes a very fair grader and wants to work with you
Great teacher. If you go to every class and take notes and study, you'll do fine. In lieu of research papers, she makes her exams multiple choice, short answer, and essay questions. Believe me, essay questions and short answer tests are way better than writing up papers.
If you are not good at history do not take this class. she moves very quickly and writes scattered notes all over the board. way too much material and the reviews are not helpful because they only consist of five pages of names, towns, battles, etc. no specifics and only about 1/4 is act. on the test. she wants the essays to be extremely detailed!
I had her for 2010 and I loved both classes. Tests are fair, and generally easy. You must study unless memorizing comes natural to you. She hints towards pop quizzes which help your grade out. she offers one extra credit opportunity. it is obvious she loves history. definitely one of the best professors i have had in college.

Very nice lady, lectures were interesting and engaging, tests were fair. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she gives quizzes often. Overall enjoyable class, I would recommend taking her night class.
Amazing professor! Her lectures are very fascinating and you can tell she is very passionate about the material. Not boring at all! Tests are fair but you need to study. People either get A's or F's. She gives 7 pop quizzes but hints at when they are, plus 3 she let us take home and one was open note. Also gives extra credit and no research paper!
Ms. Duffy is an incredibly knowledgeable lecturer. If you love lecture classes and you love taking notes, this is the one for you. Don't skip class, though! You'll be way behind. She keeps the class under control, too, so it's good for upperclassmen who don't want to be around out of control freshmen.
Easily one of the best teachers I've ever had. The hardiest part about this class is probably the quizzes because they can creep up on you, she prepares you very well for the tests. I got B's on all the test without much studying. She really is brilliant, don't miss class because it's truly interesting. You'll learn a lot. Excellent professor.
Prof. Duffy is probably one of the best lecturers at UCF. She makes things pretty easy, as long as you go to class. Do not miss class or you will not do well on the tests. She allows you to go to her other classes if you miss your own though. I would recommend her and I didn't even do well, but that was my own fault for missing classes.
She is an incredible teacher. I took her for AMH2010 and AMH2020. Her lectures are interesting, she's extremely nice, very helpful and her tests are easy if you study. She gives about 7 quizzes a semester, but many of them are group quizzes or take home quizzes. There is one big writing assignment, but it isn't hard. She also gives extra credit.
LOVED HER CLASS!Straightforward essays don't have to be complete sentences.Need to study but let me just say that once you get out of that class YOU KNOW you LEARNED!After finals I realized how much more I knew from 1semester than all the yrs of history.AMAZING Fun Lecturer! At 1st can seem like alot of notes but its not bad review/and do notecards
Duffy is absolutely amazing! she is really nice and really into history and tries hard to make her students understand everything. there is a lot of material but the class is an easy A if you study! she gives reviews for the exams and "pop" quizzes which she usually hints are coming up or makes open note or take home. Def. suggest this class!!
Everything she gives in her lectures are on the tests. a lot of notes..but easy to memorize. Her tests are short answer and essay questions. Simple if you study. You must come to class everyday..she does give pop up quizes..but she warns you ahead of time. You can only fail if you don't study. Its not hard to get an A.
One of the best teachers i've had. If you go to her office hours and she knows you're trying, she gives you TONS of help. She actually cares about your grade! Going to class is very important. Sit towards the front and she'll remember you. I highly recommend her!
I love this class! She makes history exciting and wants every student to do well. Sit towards the front, take good notes, and you'll get a good grade! Everything is straightfoward; she tells you when there will be a pop quiz, and prepares you very well for the tests. You don't have to write any papers! I definitely recommend her.
Great teacher! She always has a smile on her face and loves her history (and historical forts)! You have to study for the tests, but they are short answer and essay. You do not even have to write sentences out. The notes are long but interesting class. No papers to write! Take her! You'll love it
Shes an amazing teacher, but if you are not up for studying at least an hour after every class to remember the copious notes she gives, dont take this class. However, if you are taking this as a gen-ed and don't like history, she does make it interesting and fun to listen to. *YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS!* if u like to sleep or skip, don't take it!
Great teacher, makes history interesting. make sure you go to class, she does give a lot of notes. as long as you study what she says in class you can get an A. the textbook isn't needed much for lecture, but is necessary for a semester assignment.
You have to show up, you take tons of notes. Makes History Fun :) she is very nice and helpful
Nice lady but way too much work for an into. history course. She gives a ton of notes and quizzes. dont take it!!
Duffy is amazing. I have recruited 3 others to take her class after I did. She's such a sweet lady & makes history interesting. Be prepared to study & take notes on her lectures. Also, go to class! Highly recommended!
You need to study and you need to take notes and attend class. I made a mistake by underestimating the easiness of the course. She's a great professor and very very helpful at office hours, i highly recommend her!
Attendence isn't mandatory but HIGHLY recommended. She gives extra credit on days when a bunch of people skip. Tests were easy but I made note cards for every term and studied a bunch. The entire class is pretty much lecture, pay attention, take notes, review notes at home, you'll get an A
Nice teacher, knows what she's talking about but very HARD tests! You must study for them and the best way to study is highlight the terms she gives you as you take notes.
This lady is freaking brutal. Do not take. Lectures are horribly long and boring, and professor is honestly annoying. Soooo many notes. Do. Not. Take.
This class is not hard to get an A. Assigns a few short readings, tests are easy if you do the review she e-mails. Material is all from notes so attendance is important. I took her for AMH 2010 & 2020 and the class is straight-forward. I got an A in both.
Love this class. Her lectures are interesting. I enjoy going to class. Tests come directly from the list of words she emails. Just know everything on the list. She even hints at what some of the essay questions might be. One small writing assignment out of a book. She only does this because she has to. Love her so much going to take her for 2020.
great teacher, really interested in what she teaches. tests are detailed and can be hard, make sure you go to class and take notes so you can study
She is an amazing teacher!! She makes history so much fun, and really wants her students to succeed. Just come to class, take notes, study for tests, and you will get an A. She tells the class when there will be "pop" quizzes, and gives you the answers. I had her for 2010 & 2020- I definitely recommend her!
Professor Duffy is amazing! I'm taking her summer b class right now. Though i don't really like american history, her lectures keep it very interesting. We had readings from the historical documents book. All in all, she is a great teacher and you will learn a lot from taking her class.
Really nice teacher. Very enthusiastic about her subject. Really knows what she's talking about. I have never learned a thing in a history class but I took so much away from hers. I would definitely recommend her.
she is awesome!!! i REALLY hate history, but it actually ended up being my favorite class. she makes you laugh && she gave us the answers to two quizzes and let us take one home. not only that, but i actually learned stuff. you have to study your ass off to get an A on an exam, but it turns out that history doesnt have to be boring...TAKE HER!! ((:
Best teacher i have had so far. TAKE HER CLASS. It is really easy as long as you pay attention. She has random quizzes that arent to difficult. I can't wait to have another class with her.
Amazing teacher. I had absolutely no interest in history until I took this class with her. I also took AMH 2020 with her because I enjoyed the previous one so much. She knows what shes talking about and makes sure you understand it. Very interesting class. Loved her.
Professor Duffy is wonderful! She's so passionate about her subject and extremely helpful. Make sure you read the documents and study your notes. Textbook and document book are not expensive. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you want to well, I suggest going! Take Duffy; hopefully I'll be able to get her for AMH 2010!
nice teacher and easy as long as you study lecture notes. she gives a study guide for every test. must go to class. you dont need book just document book
Mrs. Duffy makes history really fun. She makes a lot of jokes and relates history to every day life. There is a lot of note taking, but that usually comes with all history classes. She emails out a review weeks before each exam to give you a lot of time for studying. I absolutely love her, and am taking her again for 2020! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! :)
Ms. Duffy is a great professor, definitely knows her stuff. However, she gives 7 pop quizzes throughout the whole semester which are essay format. Her tests are EXTREMELY HARD, and the final is even more difficult. I would not recommend taking her class. Find someone else.
One of the better teachers at UCF for history imo...she really helpful and cares about her students. Just be sure to participate in class it goes a long way in getting a better grade for you. Quizzes cover material over 1-2 week period. Testwise its tough unless you do outline the study guide, essays are the only tough part of the test.
Very interesting and engaging in her lectures. But you really have to study hard for the tests as some questions are very specific. Quizzes aren't too bad as long as you pay attention and take good notes. Overall really enjoyed her lectures. Just wish her tests weren't as detailed
Her lectures are VERY interesting and she gives you more than you need to know. I would take her again in a heartbeat! Her class is easy if you STUDY and take NOTES! She gives 10 question quizzes almost every other class, so be prepared. TAKE HER if you WANT to learn about American history!
Had her for both 2010 and 2020, great teacher, nothing particularly hard if you just take notes. From what I've heard about other history profs, she's one of the best choices. Test material is straight from the notes, questions are specific, but pre-test quizzes are very related to what's on the test. If you actually study, it's no problem.
If you're not a history major and you don't like history DO NOT i repeat DO NOT take this class, it is SO hard. If you don't like history definitely find someone else. Her tests and quizzes are too specific and you need to know dates! Plus when i asked what something said on the board (she writes messy) she said it rudely and then erased it!
If you are not a history major, do not take this professor. Tests are extremely specific, quizzes are unnecessarily difficult. Retardedly difficult, if you will. This class would have killed my 3.5 if I hadn't withdrawn. Stay away at all costs :O
I had this professor for 2010 and 2020 and she is the absolute best history teacher. She keeps the lectures interesting and all the tests are straight from the notes. Very specific, but if you study you should do great. Best teacher at UCF so far.
I took Duffy in her one night 3-hr lectures for both american histories and it was amazing. She keeps things interesting and tries to help as much as she can. Her tests are kind of hard, but she gives you EVERYTHING you need to get an A on it, you just have to study. She is willing to work with you if you forget something and gives Xtra credit!
She was awesome!Easily one of the best professors I've ever had. The tests are very detail oriented, but it really isn't hard if you just study. In my opinion, the book was not necessary; she gave us all the information need and more. She gives extra credit, the quizzes weren't bad at all (some were done as groups), and tests are like quizzes.
If you don't like history, DO NOT take this class. Her tests and quizzes are insanely difficult, basically you need to memorize her notes to pass. She does keep lectures interesting but not worth a bad grade.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DON'T LIKE HISTORY!! ITS SO HARD! i am a straight A student, well that is until i took this class and got a D! yes u heard me right, a D! do not take unless you're a history major!
I LOVED THIS CLASS!!! BEST EVER AT UCF!!!
This class was awesome!! I'm not a big history person but she kept it interesting and made me want to go to class! Tests and quizzes are difficult, but if you are prepared they'll be easy. Highly recommended!!
SHE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD... as a freshman i enjoyed having a class like this becasue it was exciting she was passionate and really there to help you.. take home quizzes extra credit doesnt like essays so you bulletpoint everything its amazing!!!! take her trust me
Took her for AMH 2010 and 2020 she is the best !!!!!
Professor Duffy is an amazingly passionate teacher who makes class fun and interesting. Very impressionable and straight forward. The class was easy so long as you take good notes, and study for the POP quizes and exams. Attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended. You may miss a pop quiz which are not able to be made up. One of my favorites
Fun teacher but her pop quizzes are ridiculous and her tests are hard. She gives you an unnecessarily long review that is very vague. Take if your willing to work hard for a fun teacher.
She is amazing, take her for anything, plus she's hot.
Everyone says shes an amazing teacher... Shes fun and not boring if that defines amazing. Her reviews are poor and long and her tests very detailed. Not to mention her ridiculous pop quizzes.
very nice person. passionate. tests are difficult but great at teaching the material if youre willing to do some legwork
I never used the textbooks for her class. Right before each test, she sends out a massive email with like 160 terms that you should know. If you go to class, take good notes, and make sure you know the terms, you should get an A on all her tests. The only bad things are the pop quizzes worth 12% of your grade. Overall, she's really nice and lenient.
Just go to class, listen, and take notes. You should probably have a laptop to type up the notes because it's fast paced. She's nice and helpful, just have to study hard on the tests. Everything comes from the notes, so review them and you're good.
I think that Duffy was probably the best professor that i have had at UCF. She keeps history interesting, and it's like she is telling a story. Pop quizes, that she tells you about, and one project in the end. There is also several room for extra credit. You have to work for your grade but all in all, one of the best.
She is an excellent professor. I'm usually not one for history, but she keeps it interesting and exciting. One of the best professors I've had so far!!
Not too much studying until exams but then you have to kill yourself studying before the exams, nice teacher. learn a lot
Great professor! She actually made me interested in history!- wish I had a teacher like this back in high school. Her test aren't so bad, just study and go to class
Really good teacher. Her tests aren't that bad if you study A LOT. She pretty much give you 100's on all over half of the quizzes. There is no papers just one big writing assignment which is very time consuming if you wait till the end to do it. Final is a lot of information to remember.
Excellent professor. She keeps all of her lectures interesting even though I despise history. Be ready to take tons of notes because it's a fast paced class but it's totally worth it. Study notes for exams and try not to miss class and you'll do fine. Also there are pop quizzes. I would take her again and highly recommend her.
Her lectures are interesting, even for someone like me who isn't a huge fan of history. Her tests are ALL based off of her lectures.. so no, attendance isn't mandatory but its important that you go! I found that she talked kinda fast so I actually recorded her lectures to get everything and ended up with an A in the class:)
I loved this class. It was a gordon rule class but there is only one writing assignment! the quizzes are mandatory and are in class and the test are a breeze if you study and stick to her study guides
Take Her! Need to go to class to get notes. One of the textbooks were useless, only used the one that had the documents. Her test were pretty straight forward and she is a REALLY lenient grader. Definitely the best history teacher! She made the subject really interesting and I would take her again if I got the chance.
Brutal tests, ridiculous pop quizzes, messy handwriting, and a rude professor. If these are things you are looking for in a history class then this is the professor for you!
Great teacher, easy quizzes, tests are okay if you study. AWESOME PROFESSOR!
Excellent professor! I'm not a big fan of history and was dreading taking the class but she made it very interesting!Took the class over the summer. Tests are hard with "pop" quizzes (kinda gives you a heads up beforehand) but good class with an excellent teacher (not to mention attractive too!)
extremely hard class. exams mean everything to your grade. not easy at all. she is a nice teacher and passionate about history but she is in no way easy. if you do not study you will fail. dull information and not a fun class whatsoever.
Great teacher. Made history fun. Take notes and study them and you'll do fine. Easy class. She makes it fun to learn history! Great history teacher!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE PROFESSOR DUFFY! She made learning history fun! If you go to class and take good notes you will do fine! Tests are a little bit difficult but if you study the material and go to class you will do great overall!
I Loved her class! There were days I lost track of time and forgot I was in class. Her style in simple and engaging. Be prepared to take notes from dictation. write quick and use abr. for stuff and re-write after class. If you've got good notes and have been in each class you won't have to stress the tests. If you don't the tests are hard!
I hates history and anticipated getting a bad grade because I failed history all throughout high school, but Prof. Duffy was extremely clear and very very helpful made history fun she tells jokes and is honestly just a sweet lady. If you need help she is easy to talk too however if you do not attend class you will not do well!
Amazing teacher! She is willing to do anything to help you out. Having that said she does notes by talking and you have to write as she lectures. You must study for this class to do well. She is amazing because she explains everything you need to succeed and she makes history fun! I recommend her highly! I love her teaching style!!!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE PROFESSOR DUFFY! She is so funny and nice, & honestly, she is the best history teacher I've ever had. Take good notes, study for the tests, and there is no reason not to get an A.
Professor Duffy was an amazing professor. I sadly got a B, just barely too. BUT I would take her class again than take a guaranteed A. She is helpful and the class has a great set up. Go to class and you'll do well.
Dude Duffy is the bomb im a history major but even still she is by far my favorite professor and her class was so much fun to attend. Everyone i know got a B or better, just pay attention and the class is cake take notes. Shes the best.
Duffy is probably the best teacher I have had so far at UCF! She makes her class so interesting and easy. As long as you take good notes and show up to class, you will do great!
Great teacher! Took it at night in a 3 hour block and she made it fun! She is so knowledgeable about history. Textbook is not neccasry. Go to class and take notes and you'll ace the exams. She's funny and very nice. Great class. If you have to take AMH 2010, take it with her!
Good teacher, really knows her history, LOVES presidents. Not the best speller. 3 exams + final, include mc/ matching/ 2 essay portions. No attendance; GO TO CLASS AND DON'T MISS ANY NOTES. She makes it less boring than a normal history class with her fun humor. Also, one big "Oral History" paper due near end of semester for Gordon Rule, real easy.
I've never liked history until I took her class. She lectures like she's telling a story, and can somewhat relate to us youngin's. Makes it interesting and fun. Pop quizzes on unexpected days and somewhat hard tests (for me).
Amazing teacher! I was indifferent towards History prior to this class, she does in fact make it feel like a story and I honestly enjoyed listening. Very clear with her lecture to study from and book is unneeded. She is quick to respond to emails and very helpful + willing to explain again if unsure about something. I highly recommend!
Ms. Duffy is very helpful. She makes the class interesting in the way she lectures--makes it sound like she was there while it was all happening :) I wish all instructors are like her--very easy to understand and relate to students well! AWESOME!
I loved Professor Duffy! She is so helpful and by far the fairest professor I have ever had. She looks for points for her students. She says to get the book, but you really don't need it much throughout the semester. It is helpful if you want additional information or you want to review, but it isn't necessary. Take her!
Very smart history professor. All notes are hand written and if you miss a class you will miss a lot of info so class is mandatory. The book is useless. I read it first couple of weeks and it did not help. She is very clear and nice, but my main problem is that it was to hard. Should be everyones problem in college.
She's a fantastic teacher. It's all lecture based with short readings from webcourses. She makes it very interesting, funny, and you'll learn a lot. Make sure you study your dates though. There are 7 quizes that are short answers, but as long as you've studied you should do well.
I absolutely dreaded this class. She writes every on the board in short hand so you really have to listen to everything she says. Her tests and quizzes are VERY specific and you probably won't have half the info in the notes you take. The class was awful for me. It made me hate history, which i use to love.
BEST prof I've had at UCF so far. She makes history so interesting because she genuinely loves it. She gives incredibly thorough notes in class (I didn't buy the book), which is mandatory, but she's so dynamic that having to go to class is okay. She truly cares about her students and works with us to ensure our success. If you can, take her (:
Worst class I have taken. She talks a million miles a minute and writes the notes on the board because powerpoints apparently "put her to sleep". Her handwriting is small and hard to read and she covers content way too quickly. Don't take this class unless you have nothing else to do other than study all day and night because her tests are HARD
Whatever she says in class will probably be on the test, unless she says otherwise. She's very straightforward and goes through a lot of material quickly and efficiently. So as long as you pay attention in class and memorize notes, you'll have no trouble with this class at all.
Summer A. DON'T get book. Everything on the test is straight from her lectures. Lectures are scribbled on the board, but write what she writes AND says and you'll be set for the class. Gordon done with quizzes, small essay and tests. SUPER easy, fun, passionate and not afraid to embarrass herself for history demonstrations.
Duffy is an great professor! I had no interest in history before this class, however she makes class enjoyable. She gives many examples, and is always willing to offer extra help. The class consists of 3 exams and 7 quizzes. You don't really need the book, as the test is lecture based. The book is reinforces. If you study daily, you'll get an A.
I'm not a history major- in fact, farthest from a history major (Bio-med). This was my favorite class. She knows her facts and if you pay attention, take good notes, and study- you are guaranteed an A. She was awesome. I will warn not to ask questions in the middle of a lecture. (reviews do help) Wish i could take her again!!!!
She was hilarious and amazing when it came to her lectures. The lectures were long , but worth it. I loved her class!!!!
She gives the most energetic and informative lectures. She doesn't go too fast and writes specifics on the board. Her tests include two essays but she gives you the topics the class before the test so you know what to study. She also is a generous grader and gives EC randomly.
she is amazing
Absolutely Wonderful! She knows her stuff that's for sure. Gives 3 hour lectures without having to look at any notes. Her tests are difficult but if you study hard and take good notes you'll be fine.
Lets just say that I am the farthest thing from a history major (Bio-Med to be exact) and I was averaging high 90's on her tests. Just take good notes during class and study 1-2 hours a week and this class should be a breeze. I never enjoyed history until I took her class. She definitely wants everyone to succeed.
While the tests are pretty hard, if you study your class notes you will pass. She tells you what the essays are going to be. AMAZING professor. I wish I hadn't already taken AMH2020 so I could take it with her. She's really passionate about history and her lectures are a testament to that, she makes it all very interesting.
She makes class very do-able. You must attend class in order to pass. All lectures are written on the whiteboard- no powerpoints. One simple paper- bypasses the Gordon writing rule. I would take her!
Professor Duffy is amazing! I learned so much in her class and she really loves teaching history. All her notes are on the board so you will have to write (I suggest handwriting them). She gives a "study guide" before tests as well as the essay questions. I did the study guides and I earned As in both classes. She randomly gives extra credit.
What an amazing professor!! I'm a nursing major getting GEDs out of the way, and she made it a really enjoyable experience. Don't bother with the book, all her tests are lecture based!! Incredibly funny, but can talk fast so you for sure have to take notes. She does all lecture with a white board instead of a powerpoint, which helps outlining notes
Professor Duffy is one of the best professors I've had at UCF. Her lectures are very interesting and she is always there to help you if you need it. She is funny, smart, and you can tell she is really interested in what she is teaching. I would recommend her to anyone!
I loved her! She loves history and you can definitely tell. Even if you're not crazy about history she'll make things interesting. She doesn't take attendance, but you HAVE to take notes. Tests aren't so bad as long as you take those notes, but studying definitely helps.
I loved Professor Duffy!! Her lectures are clear and not confusing at all. She knows how to keep you interested. She makes sure you know the important things for the 4 Exams you take in her class. Attendance is mandatory for there are a few pop quizzes throughout the semester but, I definitely recommend taking her for both history classes!!
LOVE HER! Its a 3 hour class and I barely check my phone. That is how interesting and how much of a good professor she is. Her lectures are interesting and informative. If you write everything down you're basically guaranteed an A. Her tests and quizzes are easy as long as you pay attention and come to class. TAKE HER!!!!
She is unbelievably smart and makes three hour lectures fun. The time flies when she lectures. Reading the textbook helps, but I don't think it's completely mandatory to pass. She has quizzes, but they're not too horrible and she tries to give as much credit as possible for partial answers and such. Definitely take her for US History.
She is a great professor and makes lectures very interesting and engaging. If you skip class, forget it. All of the test and quiz materials are pretty much all from lecture. She gives pop quizzes too, so you never know. There's not many grades, so if you miss too many assignments or fail them, your screwed for the rest of the semester.
Very intelligent professor. You can tell she truly loves history. It's an easy class to get an B in but you have to work really hard to get an A. You need to take notes about everything she writes and says. Quizzes are not multiple choice so you have to remember every detail and multiple choice and matching portion on tests can be tricky.
She is super nice, but also gives off a little bit of a crazy vibe. She gives 7 pop quizzes (10 short response questions), 3 tests (30 multiple choice & two essays), and a cumulative final. She doesn't use power points, just writes everything on the board. I'm pretty bad at history and got a C in the class which I was not happy about.
She's amazing! Her lectures are great! She'll even get people to act it out. Class isn't mandatory but her testsquizzes are all from lectures, not the textbook, so every time I skipped I regretted it. Her tests are tough but if you pay attention and study they're not impossible. Loved her but you definitely need to put an effort into class.
Duffy is the first professor that has ever gotten my to understand and remember history. She practically acts everything out in class. Amazing professor! The exams were not extremely easy, but she gives a great review beforehand.
She is super clear and you don't really need the book because she tells you everything you need to know Be ready to take good notes She doesn't use power points, she writes all on the board which makes it easy to follow and she goes slow enough for you to take notes She makes history super interesting Study well for tests
Professor Duffy has changed my life she is so amazing and I took her twice just for that, her lectures have stuck with me which means I learned and did not memorize. YOU MUST GO TO HER CLASSES the book isn't worth crap and her quizzes are random, and based off her notes but they are VERY ENTERTAINING interactive lectures. Take her class!!!!!!
This woman literally is the best thing to happen to UCF history, she is super informative and tests are only from her lectures. Some quizzes that are the easiest thing ever if you of course pay attention. I swear every place she teaches you about shes traveled to because she wants to know more about and like to throw in little fun facts and stories
Professor Duffy is an INCREDIBLE teacher! She is extremely knowledgeable about the topics and makes the lectures entertaining. When she teaches she uses diagrams and have students act it out (optional of course) and her tests aren't hard if you study.
Does not use PowerPoint so make sure you go to class because she just talks and occasionally writes on the board. She makes the lectures interesting and lets you know exactly what to focus on for the tests. especially the essays.
She is clear about what you need to study, but there's a lot to study.
She is super cool and funny and loves history and makes it really interesting in lectures. Prepare to study your butt off though.
TAKE HER CLASS! She's an amazing professor. She does go fast (I once missed around 10 mins which a page of notes) but she's so knowledgeable about everything . Lots of acting out & fun stories, and make sure you always volunteer! You definitely MUST go to class, but I've never read the book and have an A. Notes on whiteboard, prepare to write!
She makes lectures really exciting and interesting but if you don't go you'll be missing a lot of information. Make sure you study your notes a lot. Grade is basically made up of tests and quizzes so if you do bad like I kind of did you'll be hurting at the end of the semester.
I have taken her for both AMH2010 and 2020. Both are AMAZING and I love her so much! The book helps a lot but it's not 100% necessary. She gives 7 quizzes/semester, so every other week there's a quiz. She teaches in a way that even a STEM major get into it, since she started off as one herself. I hope to be as great a lecturer as she is one day!
Professor Duffy was amazing!! She is a storyteller of history and all her test are straight forward. Attendance is a must, if you miss one class you will get lost in the next lecture. Easy grader, does give 4 in class pop quizzes, and 3 take home. she is full of character an personality, she really makes history worth learning.
Very passionate about what she's teaching. Gives great lectures. I passed all the tests with a B and I studied the day or two before. Just go to class and take good notes and you'll be fine. Highly recommend her.
Okay so she was very interesting. I hate history but she made it interesting. Her lectures were very fun and I learned soooooo much. But beware: this class is very hard. Her tests are very hard. I had to study at least 10 hours before a test. Her grading: 2 tests worth 25% each, final worth 30%, 7 pop quizzes (not expected) 2 % each, and project 6%
I hate history so prof Duffy made it so much easier to learn. Do not skip class or you will totally miss what will be on the test since she doesn't use the text. She doesn't assign essay but you're tests will have 2 essay but she tells u the topics before the test. Tests are a little difficult so take good notes or record lectures
Absolutely ADORE Duffy. I have never been a history honey before taking this class but now I am a bit of a dork for the subject. Duffy makes lectures interesting. You do have to study for her test, they're hard. But you WILL learn! Take this class if you can, it is awesome!
She is a wonderful professor. She makes the class extremely interesting and really if you just go to class and listen to her lectures and review a little each day, this class is an easy A. She is very helpful and grades pretty easy as well. If you can, definitely take this professor.
Really captivating lectures, but if you miss one you will be behind. She teaches I a way that I was able to remember everything. Would definitely take her class again.
Excellent Professor, makes lectures easy to digest and very good at breaking down the subject at large. Does give one long semester paper near the end of the semester, but if you do some studying her tests are a cinch. Quizzes are nice and easy too.
Professor Duffy made history very enjoyable for me, a person who has always hated history. I'd recommend taking her class, the textbook isn't necessary, but going to class is essential to passing because she writes all the notes on the board and doesn't post them online, she also gives pop quizzes. 1 easy paper, and an extra credit assignment.
One of my favorite professors. Gives awesome lectures, knows exactly what she's talking about and so do you. Tests are pretty tough but if you study, you'll get at least a B on them.
Duffy is easily my favorite professor. She has a superb handle of the material and deep passion for the subject so watching her work is truly a treasure. The test are hard, if you don't take good notes and show up to class. But with how interesting she makes it you'd have to be asleep to not be paying attention. I always try to take Duffy if I can.
Professor Duffy is amazing. She only looks at her notes maybe twice in a 50 minute class, that's how much she knows history. She's extremely passionate and uses modern examples all the time. No PPT's, just a whole class of her talking so make sure you take notes on EVERYTHING she says. Tests are pretty tough, but she'll help you as much as she can.
Duffy is an amazing professor, made history interesting and fun. She also cares about her students. Tests are fair and homework consists of reading historical documents. She gives plenty of extra credit. She also does fun things in class. Notes are amazing and provides study guides for test. Take her seriously you will not regret it.
Her class is really easy as long as you take down notes, do her study guide and really pay attention. The tests are pretty straightforward, and her quizzes aren't that bad. 3 are take home and the others are in class (pop qzs... but not really...) Definitely recommend, I do NOT like history but I learned A LOT in her class and really understood.
If you don't like pop quizzes, do not take Professor Duffy's class because it will mess you up, Basically, shes a good teacher, she knows her stuff and lectures history like she was there for it all. No slide shows. Take good notes. Exams arent easy so do study. BIG Gordon Rule assignment due at end of the year on 10 documents, start it early.
Go to class and take great notes. Tests can be hard but if you go to class and pay attention, you'll do fine. Lectures are fun but she tends to go overboard with background information that really doesn't matter. Tests consist of around 30 multiple choice and a short answer section (she gives the topics beforehand). Only con is pop quizzes.
I loved this class! Professor Duffy made history fun and easy to learn. Going to class and taking detailed notes is necessary if you want to pass. There are 7 quizzes and 3 tests, super easy if you study and fill out the study guide. 100% recommend this class
Overall decent teacher, but if you do not like someone who has an attitude occasionally do not take her. Also pop quizzes suck so definitely consider that when taking this class.
Going to lecture is a MUST. You never know when she will have a pop quiz. Her tests are based on lectures and readings, mostly lectures so make sure to take notes. Her tests are quite difficult though. It's a lot of information to cover so if history isn't your cup of tea, prepare to pull an allnighter.
I absolutely loved this class! Professor Duffy is amazing. Her lectures are super heavy but she makes history easy to understand. Took it for summer A and got 90+ on all tests. be ready to study and beware of pop quizzes (she usually warns you about) but you will learn so much. Also no essays only a writing assignment that takes no time!
Took her for AMH2010 and she was by far the best professor I ever had. She says she has pop quizzes but announces in class the day before a quiz to "be prepared" so you know to study. Her lectures are so good and interesting and is everything you need to know for her tests. Never read the textbook and no homework. Would highly recommend.
One of the best professors I've ever had. I'd recommend going to every lecture because there are no ppt slides, she teaches with a dry erase board. She is so passionate and makes the material entertaining, she will give "pop" quizzes where she notifies you the class before, and there's no homework. Haven't opened the textbook once. STUDY for exams.
Duffy makes the class SOOO engaging and interesting. There is no book for the class, it is solely based on her amazing lectures. Exams are pretty straight forward with two short essays (she gives you essay questions in the review). "Pop quizzes" every now and then but she announces them. Pretty easy final paper. Take her, you wont regret it!
She is by far the best professor I have come across. She is so intelligent in her field and makes class really fun to go to because she acts out skits and gives out free food sometimes. The class is making me debate on becoming a history major just because she made it so fun to learn. Super easy exams with a ton of extra credit opportunity!!!!
TAKE HER. I took her for 2010 and 2020. SO EASY because of her. She's amazing. Her tests are easy as long as you study a bit. Her lectures are very interesting, history is boring... BUT she makes it so interesting. TAKE HER! I loved her classes. Quizzes are tough but if you take good notes you're fine. Final paper easy. Txtbk not needed, save 30$.
Duffy is my favorite professor I've ever taken. I took her for AMH 2010 and 2020 during Fall 2016 and Spring 2017, and loved every minute. Her lectures are amazing and entertaining, and if you pay attention to them you'll never have to open your textbook. Very passionate and will make you want to major in History. I can't recommend her enough.
I never thought I'd enjoy history until I took Dr. Duffy! First things first, if you pay attention and attend all of her lectures, take good notes on a laptop, you'll do fine on your tests without a textbook. Let it be known that her tests DO require extensive knowledge, but they're not difficult. She's friendly, approachable, and knows her stuff!
Alicia Duffy is the best teacher/professor Ive ever had. She lectures without PowerPoints (which scares the crap out of you when you first see that) but her lectures are amazing. As long as you take notes and study for the tests youll be fine. No homework. Three tests, one paper (super easy), and a few quizzes (only ten questions).
Professor Duffy is the best! I took her for both AMH 2010 and 2020. I did great in bothe classes. If you aqttend her lecture and take notes you will do great. She is always available for questions. She is very funny and brings props to class and gives great extra credit! take her and you wont regret it.
Professor Duffy is a very nice and caring lady. The subject of history can be very dry, but her lectures are interesting. Don't need to buy the textbook, just pay close attention to her lectures and take notes. She gives the writing topic options for tests in class before the test. Memorization is key to passing tests.
She is very enthusiastic and tries to make history as exciting as possible. The class has 3 exams and 7 pop quizzes. Classes aren't mandatory but if you want to pass you need to go to class and take thorough notes (no powerpoints only talking). You also don't need the textbook. She grades fairly and gives lots of opportunities for extra credit.
-Must attend lectures as she physically writes material on white board -7 pop quizzes (rarely announced), 1 EC quiz, & 3 exams (gives essay topics beforehand). Final is easy if you review old essay topics. -1 Essay Assignment interview someone -Read over notes & practice the essays in advance, you'll get an A -Never used textbook -Continues...
(Cont. from last post) BEST HISTORY PROF EVER! She's an expert in her field! Makes history engaging & easy to retain. She's really nice & available outside of class for any help/to go over previous tests. If you put a little effort into reviewing notes & preparing essays beforehand, you'll get an A on the exams. Take her & you won't regret it!
Amazing lectures, and super friendly teacher. Lots of content to study for exams though, but you will learn a lot and take away a lot from this class.
Amazing! She always gives 110% every class! Don't skip because every lecture is important! Pop quizzes but she will usually give you a warning in advance. Get permission to record lectures- this really helped me get an A+. The book is helpful but by no means necessary. I loved coming to class! She lectured in a story format and had us all hooked!!
Professor Duffy was incredible. I'm a communication major and nearly thought about changing to history because she is so amazing at what she does. Lectures are everything in this class, you don't need the book at all. She is hilarious and makes American history interesting and relevant. You'll love her!
Professor Duffy's class is my only "C" grade thus far at UCF. Lectures were interesting but you can't miss a beat with taking notes. I would recommend recording lectures and do not skip class. If you miss class, ask a peer to share their notes with you. Exams are detail-oriented so study and review notes in advance.
Prof. Duffy is amazing. I hated American History, but after having her class I actually found it interesting. Her lectures are full of energy, which makes learning AMH so much easier. Try not to miss class and take notes! Study before the tests and quizzes!
Professor Duffy is great! She brings history to life with her stories. She gives 7 pop quizzes, so be prepared. There are three exams and the final. One GRW assignment which is super easy to do. She also gives extra credit. You do not need the book since her exams are based on her notes. Make sure you come to class and take good notes!
Great professor! She made a boring subject one of my favorite classes I have taken so far at UCF. No need for a book, but she goes off the dome and you need to take good notes. There are quizzes, but most of them were online so there was only really 2-3 real pop-quizzes. 3 tests, 1 easy writing assignment, and a final. Definitely recommend!
She made history more interesting than I've ever seen it. teaches it in a really good way and does everything she can to help you remember things. usually warns before pop quizzes. final essay was cake. you definitely can't miss class- hearing her lecture and taking notes is the best way to go.
One of the best professors that I've had at UCF! Prof. Duffy can make anybody interested in whatever she's teaching because of how emotionally invested into the her lectures she gets. There are 3 tests, 7 quizzes (some are take home, some are 'pop quizzes' that she tells you about the class before) and one cumulative quiz. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Her classes consist of listening to her talk for the whole time without powerpoint or anything. She does give a lot of pop quizzes. Her tests aren't that hard if you've been going to class. She tries to make it obvious what she's going to ask.
Lectures are based on her talking and writing on the board. You dont need the book. She gives pop quizzes but she usually announces when they'll be. My advice is to study as you go because you are given A LOT of information and if you wait last minute you will be screwed. Also make a friend, helps out when you cant make it to class!
This is the hardest class I have taken at UCF so far. No online notes so if you miss her lecture and don't get notes from someone else you are screwed. Also she has 8 pop quizzes and if you miss them there is no makeup. She seems to be a very nice teacher that cares about her students, but her class is overly difficult and tests are ridiculous.
Hands down my favorite professor at UCF. I'm not a huge history person but she's really god at making it interesting and being engaging, I actually really enjoyed going to this class. With that being said you, do need to study. I studied but not as much as I should have and the final moved my grade from an A to a B+ (but NGL that was my bad)
Very engaging professor. Tests and quizzes are based on the notes you will take in class, so just show up and take the notes. I wouldn't recommend skipping class, when Duffy teaches it more like story time, which is a-lot easier to retain than notes from a friend. This class is super straight forward, no reason not to do well if you try.
Duffy is unequivocally the best professor ever! She lays out everything you need to succeed up front. Show up to lectures and be amazed. Don't show and catching up will be tough. Duffy has a true passion for history and it shows. The classwork can be a bit challenging, but it is manageable. Take her class, you won't regret it!
I had Duffy as one of my very first professors and I don't think anyone will be able to top her!! Everything was straightfoward, and there were no surprises about assignments/quizzes. Definitely recommned taking her class she makes history so much fun!!
Duffy is an absolute gem! Hilarious lectures, super caring, and a fashion icon to boot! Duffy has a passion for history and a knack for making even the most boring of topics interesting. You definitely have to show up if you want to pass, but Duffy makes the lectures so engaging you'll want to show up! 10/10 recommend highly!
Duffy is the best professor you'll ever have. I've always had trouble understanding and grasping US History. However, Duffy's lectures are AMAZING and I even ended up fully understanding and loving History. I would look forward to going to class. You can truly tell she's passionate about teaching. I took AMH 2020 with her and signed up for AMH2010.
LOVE HER!!! I was dreading having to take a history class because it has never been my thing, but she is an amazing teacher and its the only class I look forward to. If you expect to take notes off of a powerpoint you're wrong. She puts the 'story' in hiSTORY. Its easy to keep up, and if you take good notes, you'll do well on her quizzes. TAKE HER!
Best teacher Ive had at UCF so far, her lectures were incredibly interesting and actually made me wanna go to class everyday, lots of tests though so you either know the material or dont.
This class is lecture dependant, making it imperative that you write down everything and anything you can. Everything on her tests/quizzes can be found within the lecture, and she usually gives up a heads up about any of those "pop quizzes". Overall, she's a great professor who truly cares about teaching her students about history. Just study.
Best professor I've had. Cares a lot about her students. Heavily focused on lectures so take good notes. You don't need the textbook at all. She gives feedback on every assignment. Her lectures are entertaining and interactive. Her lectures aren't boring either. She participates just as much as we do. 10/10 recommend.
Incredible professor. Still pains me I couldn't take her for AMH2020. I'm not a fan of history, and she had me excited to wake up in the morning to go to her class.
Professor Duffy is an amazing lecturer. She does not waste your time with the information, as they will appear on future quizzes/exams. She truly cares about the students and made learning history extremely interesting. If you study all your notes, you will certainly pass. She tries to make things as easy as possible. Love her energy and passion.
Duffy is one of the best professors Ive ever had. Her lectures are always super entertaining and makes it into a story rather than a boring lecture. She always goes out of the way to help a student out. If you show up to class and take good notes, youll get an A.
Professor Duffy is one of the best professors. She had great lectures and you learn A LOT. Showing up to class is absolutely going to help you on the tests and quizzes. Everything on the tests and quizzes was clearly taught during lectures so there are no surprises. I couldn't recommend this professor enough.
Professor Duffy is an incredible professor. Attendance, while not graded or mandatory, is highly suggested because her three exams and few quizzes are graded off of her lectures. She is very attentive to her students, and her love for history shows in the lectures she gives.
Duffy was by far the most entertaining and one of the best instructors! She's a storyteller rather than a lecturer and her interactions are quite entertaining. The class was fairly easy as long as you attended the lectures, which make up most of the quizzes and exams. She recommends a textbook but it's not required and she says you can pass w/o it.
Professor Duffy is awesome. She taught over zoom and she was great. I highly recommend her class. She uses original test questions, which I appreciated. The textbook is not necessary as she goes over everything that you will be tested on in class. There were three exams and some extra credit as well. I would definitely take her again if I could.
Her lectures are by far the most interesting. Her enthusiasm for History really rubs off of. Now you gotta take notes to fully succeed in her class, but her lectures are fun to listen to. She encourages participation in skits or something which is fun.
she is very understanding of your situation and really cares about her students and that they pass. she was very genuine and warm hearted. I struggled with this class and had a low C and ended up getting 100 on my final because I spoke to her and she helped me find better study habits and accommodate to me. all her tests are based on her lectures.
Professor Duffy is an incredible educator who truly goes above and beyond to make history come alive for her students. From dressing up in the era to bringing in artifacts, she always makes her lectures just that more amusing to her students. I HIGHLY recommend Professor Duffy to absolutely anyone looking to take AMH 2010 or AMH 2020. She rocks!
Professor Duffy gives wonderful, detailed lectures and truly wants all of her students to succeed. She is extremely kind, passionate about history, and gives plenty of extra credit. I rented the textbook and read some of it before tests, but it definitely is not mandatory. She also would give out Oreos to anyone who participated in class!
Professor Duffy had very intriguing lectures and she is a really sweet and fun professor overall. She's been very aware and accommodating of the change brought on by the pandemic. Highly recommend her for AMH!
Well prepared professor. Lectures are well presented and interesting. She is willing to work with you if you are out with Covid.
Duffy is amazing! The workload is barely anything but studying and attendance are really important for this class. It is definitely not an "easy A" bc u have to study a lot for tests but an A is achievable. She makes lectures super interesting by using fun examples and basically telling a story for each topic. Gonna take her again for AMH 2010!
I LOVED PROF DUFFY! Her lectures are super interesting and easy to follow along with. It is not an easy A and you will need to attend class to be able to pass quizzes and tests. Her class is only lectures and are purely based off your own notes since she does not record lectures for web courses. Currently taking her for AMH2010 now. Take her!
Professor duffy is amazing. she teaches in person & has a zoom component for anyone who needs to miss class. her lectures are full of info but easy to listen to bc she tells it like a story. tests are pretty heavy but shenever gives any surprises. def go to class & study & youll be fine. also writing component was soo doable. 10/10 would take again
This was my only in-person class this semester and it was the most enjoyable class I had. If you miss a lecture, reach out to her. While we had Zoom for people who couldn't make it, IDK if it will continue in the fall. The exams are based on the lectures and the writing assignment wasn't that bad. Make sure to jump on it early.
The lectures can be a bit boring, but all the necessary information is there. She puts a lot of effort into making the lectures interesting. Very approachable outside the classroom and is willing to help you if you're struggling.
Personally, Duffy's class was difficult for me, however that's because history isnt my strong suit. She is an amazing lecturer and she cares enough about her students to try and learn everyones name. DO NOT MISS CLASS! She goes fast, and if you miss class, you will miss A LOT. Be sure to start that writing assignment early. If not, youll regret it
One of the best teachers I have ever had. She is amazing and really succeeds in her effort to make the class engaging and interesting. Duffy makes going to class less of lecture about American history or just what happened and more of a story about interesting, real characters that shaped our nation. 10/10.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE DUFFY. The best professor I have ever had at my time at UCF so far. History did not seem like the best topic to have to take, but she made it so fun and engaging. I took for AMH2020 and AMH2010! If I could take her again I definitely would. Test are so straightforward if you study! 10/10 recommend
She was a great professor especially for only being my 2nd in person class during the pandemic! I felt like her class truly showed me what a college class should be like when it's in person. This class honestly is an easy A as long as you make sure you study for her tests which are based off of her lectures.
She is one of my top professors. She covers a lot of material plus pop quizzes so you need to come in o class. However she is hilarious and makes the lectures interesting! Very devoted to her job. I also like that her test where a mix of multiple choice and essays.
Professor Duffy is one of my favorite professors. I took her during a summer semester so the information was crunched together yet it was still doable. Write down the words she speaks and you won't even need a textbook. She's quite detailed (and animated!) with her lectures, she even incorporates fun activities to help hammer in the topic.
Prof. Duffy is a great teacher with an evident passion for history. The class was one of my harder ones- you need to study a lot of information. She made the class very interesting though.
Not an easy A class if that's what you're looking for. She definitely makes history fun and memorable and you can see her passion when she teaches. However, the volume of this class is insane, lots of material covered very quickly. Also, exams are 2 essays, 20 multiple choice, and 10 matching problems in 50 minutes.
I LOVE Professor Duffy-she is the kindest, sweetest professor that you will ever be blessed to have! She goes above and beyond to make her class fun and engaging for everyone. Keep up with the quizzes and start the writing assignment early! Duffy is always accessible outside of class, both in her office and on Zoom. Take her, just do it!!!
The most amazing professor that I have had. She is extremely understanding and works with you if you need help. She wants all of her students to succeed and pass and she sets everyone up to do exactly that. I 10/10 recommend this teacher, she genuinely cares about each of her students and gives amazing lectures.
AMAZING! Duffy gives the most entertaining lectures and is very clear about her expectations. The material in any test/quiz is covered in the lecture. She provides extra credit and there is a final paper. You will need to study and dedicate time to the class, but an A certainly is achievable if you go to class. Will be taking her again for AMH2020!
Has really fun and engaging lectures!
I absolutely despise history, however, Professor Duffy's lectures were so entertaining that it didn't even feel like I was learning but more like hearing a story. She explains the material very well. She gives "pop" quizzes (she gives you a hint the class before) and her exams are relatively easy if you studied.
Never had a more interesting history class and I usually fall asleep. This professor has made me very into history. Show up for class though!
Dr. Duffy is a very genuine professor, who really wants to make sure her students understand the content. Super caring, there are some pop quizzes, but she helps you prepare, and she also does zoom sessions to the night before a test to help answer any questions you may have. If you have a chance, you should definitely take her!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE Professor Duffy! I took her for AMH2010 and AMH2020 and got good grades in both. Her lectures are incredibly entertaining and they made me enjoy showing up to class. Take good notes! She gives 'pop' quizzes but she lets you know about them beforehand. She only offers zoom to covid positive students though! But she really is amazing!
Duffy truly makes learning history captivating and fun. I really enjoyed attending her lectures. She talked for the whole 50 minutes straight, so be prepared to take a lot of notes! Your grade is based on 7 quizzes, 3 exams, 1 final, and 1 large writing assignment. She gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit 10/10 would recommend
Took AMH 2010 and 2020. AMAZING PROF! Super engaging and really cares about material. Always available. Must go to class (fast paced), notes aren't on webcourses. Gives pop quizzes, but strong hints before. Tests are hard so the study guide is a must. One of the best professors at UCF, gets to know students.
Professor Duffy is an AMAZING history teacher. The way she lectures shows how well she knows her history, and loves what she teaches. But, this class is NOT an easy A by any means. Tests require a ton of studying and prep out of class. She has to go through a ton of content each class, so if you miss one you quickly fall behind. Loved her though!
Made class very interesting, she usually heavily implies her pop quizzes the class before.
One of the best teachers in UCF. She makes every lecture interesting and always has your attention and is able to stuff so much information in 50min. All you need to do is take good notes and read them over before exams. She tells you exam essay topics before the exam so you can practice the material yourself easily.
This is the second class I have taken with Duffy and I wish I could take more. She is an amazing professor and my inspiration for minoring in history. She truly has a passion for teaching. 7 quizzes and 3 tests along with a cumulative final. You have to work for an A, but if you go to class and take notes, you can achieve it. Take her if possible!!
Duffy is an amazing professor, and her lectures are never dull. Attend every class you can because you easily fall behind. Her exams/quizzes are verbatim, so you for sure don't want to miss class. Duffy is genuinely passionate about teaching history and caring for her students. I highly recommend that you take her!
Duffy is the best professor you will ever have make sure you take her at some point before you graduate! The lectures are the most entertaining you will ever have. This is not an easy A though, you will need to show up and pay attention, and there are in-person tests/pop quizzes (she gives you a warning the class before). TAKE HER!!!
Amazing teacher, she would always be willing to clarify anything that made sense and held review Zoom meetings before every quiz/test. Very easy to talk to and you could reach out out of class easily too. Hoping to take AMH2010 with her next semester!
The class can be hard at times, but she did a great job of making the material memorable. Often gives multiple choices for free response, but most of the tests were memorization. She also does pop quizzes, but she always hints at it the class before. If you pay attention, take notes, and look over them before a test, you'll be fine.
If you can take Duffy, do it!! She actually had me excited to go to her class, even though history isn't my thing at all. A bit of extra credit here and there which is nice. She is always wanting to help her students :)
Professor Duffy is great! She really does her best to make the lectures as fun as possible. I actually found myself looking forward to her lectures. The class isn't too hard BUT YOU MUST SHOW UP IF YOU WANT TO PASS. Study hard for quizzes and exams and you'll do great.
This was a tough class for me, but thats because history isn't my strong suit. Duffy's lectures are the best i've ever attended, but its ESSENTIAL that you attend EVERY LECTURE. I truly cant express that enough. Be ready for the essays in her exams, and you'll do great. I highly recommend forming a study group. That will help a lot.
I am taking Duffy again for AMH 2020. Best teacher. So kind. Attend her lectures!!! She is very clear about everything you need to know. She wants her students to succeed and will always help her students. Do not waste your money on the textbook. She gives a free alternative, but I never even used it because her lectures are amazing.
She is an amazing professor and I would recommend her to anyone on the fence about their classes and professors. She does not take attendance, however, the notes she posts in web courses are just the bones of the lecture. Provides extra credit opportunities on tests and quizzes. She also does not require you to get the textbook.
There is a LOT of material and you go through it very quickly. Make sure to review. The tests consist of about 30 multiple choice questions with 10 of them being matching. You also have to write 2-3 essays in the time limit of about 50 minutes. It is hard but if you write out what you are going to write on the day of the test you should be fine.
This class is not easy by any means, but if you go to class and do what she says to do, you'll be fine. She is always available to help and the classes are short and concise.
Warning for the class is that it can be fast paced & can be a lot of material if you aren't familiar with US history. Attendance not mandatory but I recommend as she'd say when the quiz will be the class before it happens. I'd encourage going to most classes as you can miss out on alot easily. She's easily available to students, tries to make it fun
I would consider myself good at history, however the tests were very difficult to pass. They are worth three quarters of your entire grade.
Everything she puts on the tests she covers in class and she gives plenty of warning about the "pop" quizzes to those who come to class. I did have to put in a bit more work than I expected in this class, but she goes in depth about the material and is willing to help you understand it in office hours, and I feel like I did pretty well.
Her class was very intresting
Easily one of the best teachers I've had in all of school, with engaging lectures, explanations, humor, and is very helpful outside of the classroom. I took her class during a 6-week summer semester, so the workload was a bit heavier but it wasn't too bad. This class is very lecture-heavy, so don't plan on skipping, as you will miss out on a lot.
This professor is a godsend. Very articulate with everything. Gets to know your name and genuinely cares and seems passionate about what she teaches. Amazing experience.
Professor Duffy is an amazing teacher; she has great energy and is very caring. Only way to pass the class is through lectures. You do have to study to retain the info for the exam. There's multiple choice and open response.
I don't have enough words to describe how AWESOME Professor Duffy is. Her lectures are engaging and she knows what she's talking about. Makes stuff easy to remember, and we mainly have quizzes, 3 exams, and one paper that's more like a hw assignment than an actual paper. She's helped me so much with prepping for exams outside of class! Take her!
She has pop quizzes that are very specific. Her class is mandatory because if you do not go to a class you will be very behind. Her tests are very hard and specific because you have to write 2 essays and 45 questions in 50 mins. Her tests also cover so much information we learn it is very hard to keep up. Take this class if you love history.
I hate this professor, don't let the other reviews fool you. You MUST attend class or she will have a personal vendetta against you. The tests were impossible and she makes all of them say "which answer is not correct" and changes one word. If you can't memorize thousands of dates and random people that mean nothing to history then you will FAIL!!!
Nice teacher who cares about her students and is good at what she does. But you need to give it your ALL to get a good grade. Can't miss any lectures, have to attend office hours, study notes, create quizlets (since study guides are just lists with no actual info) And one bad grade on a test can ruin your chances of getting an A in the class.
Do not take her the only thing that is graded are exams and she does a terrible job of explaining the material in class. Most of the test was not even thought in class. There is no homework but exams r very hard and make up your whole grade. Lectures r basically mandatory but none of the information is on canvas and she moves very fast.
Prof. Duffy is an excellent teacher for learning history, as well as a fun & friendly person. Her lectures are simplified and engaging yet packed with information and very fast-paced. Note-taking in lectures is crucial to passing, so attendance is very important. Tests & "pop" (not really) quizzes are difficult so you will need to study plenty.
professor duffy was absolutely amazing! her class was so enjoyable to take, and her lectures are super engaging and informative. she has "pop" quizzes, but lets you know well in advance when they're coming. all of her exams and tests are based on the lecture, so if you skip, you'll fail. overall great professor and great class!
Professor Duffy is one of the most amazing professors I've had. She is all about student success and if you just apply yourself you can get an A. She works with you outside of the class and makes sure that the class is not boring. She does not penalize you if you miss class, but you will be a little lost for during the next lecture.
Super sweet prof. She's funny and her lectures are never boring. 3 exams and one final. Not too much writing. I worked hard for my B in this class: attendance, notes, and studying. Not an easy A.
This professor is amazing! I wish she taught more history courses because she makes her lectures so entertaining. Her class is not the easiest and it requires a lot of studying, but she cares about her students and will work with you outside of class. You can tell she has been teaching for a long time so please take her class if you are in doubt!!!
I had Duffy for both AMH 2010 and AMH 2020, she is amazing for both! Her lectures are very well organized and are often interactive with the class. Definitely show up to her lectures. You will have to try, because the class is not a free A. There are 8 quizzes, 3 tests, 1 writing assignment, and 1 final (basically another quiz). Highly recommend.
Amazing professor, so sweet and caring. The lectures were clear and the tests we
Duffy had great lectures and is always open to meet with students after class during her office hours. You can just tell she is passionate about teaching and that enthusiasm helps to make the lectures fun. Be prepared to work for the A, you need to know the material she lectures about to do good on her exams.
office hours really helped, i took this class during summer b so the content of the class was really compressed down but if this class was taken over the regular semester it should be pretty easy. the exams are a little difficult to study for because there's a lot of stuff, otherwise great professor!
She is one of the best professors at UCF. Attendance is not mandatory but will help you thrive in her class. I love her lecture style!
Professor Duffy makes her lectures engaging and informative. The class requires a lot of studying, but she's willing to help you outside of class. I found unstuckstudy AI and the textbook really useful for exam prep.
I love Prof.Duffy so much. She cares about her students and is willing to adjust office hours if needed. She gives lots of extra credit throughout the semester so its hard to fail. Some of her quizzes are online and she will answer questions for you. She also reviews everything that will be on the exam the class before your exam. Highly recommend!!
Heavy lecture without an easy way to make it up if you miss class. Do not take if you plan on skipping a bunch because you wont pass. Quite a few extra credit opportunities. Super engaging lecture. If you want to take this class and learn something and you are willing to do the work to get a good grade, then I totally recommend.
I had this professor as a GEP and although she made the history interesting, it was a lot of info to memorize. Her exams were extremely difficult and the wording was very complicated in my opinion. Attend class or you will fail.
Very light class for a GEP. Attendance isn't mandatory but once in a while she will pass a sheet around and you get participation points if you are. VERY lecture-heavy. All information comes from lectures but she makes it very interesting to follow along. 3 online quizzes that help you prepare for test, 3 tests with final, 3 IP quizzes.
Even though attendance is mandatory, skipping even a day will set you behind by a lot of information. She mainly lectures, although at a really fast pace. The material itself isn't too tough, it can just feel like information overload sometimes. 3 unit exams and 6 quizzes- 3 of which are online and open note/can be worked on with study groups/help
Duffy was genuinely one of the easiest teachers I've ever had. All you have to do is show up to the lectures to know what's going on but aside from that: there's little to no homework, all you have to worry about is the exams, she made the writing requirement for the course as easy as possible, and you don't HAVE to participate to get a good grade.
Professor Duffy is an engaging and fun professor to have. I throughly enjoyed her class this semester and looked forward to her lectures everyday. She makes her expectations very clear and sets you up for success in the class. I hope I can take Duffy again at UCF.
Professor Duffy is great! Coming as someone who's never been interested in history, her lectures are very interactive and fun. I genuinely looked forward to attending her class. Just be aware that the class is really content heavy! If you want to do well, you're going to have to study a lot and commit to the work.
You can tell Duffy cares about History, and she's a very good lecturer. However, this class was way harder than necessary for a GEP requirement. I took Calc 3 the same semester and this was still harder. Her tests are a time crunch for most students, and she tests on sometimes very random, trivial details. You gotta write down everything!
Best history teacher I have ever had, awesome lectures, teaching style, clear grading criteria, nice class environment, and gives lots of opportunities to get extra credit. If you study at least once before the quizzes or exams, you are probably going to do well in her classes.
Fun class but you gotta always be taking notes. Lots of memorization. She is helpful even outside of class hours. Tests are a time crunch.
I loved Duffy! She was so funny and entertaining. Her tests were a lot, but not necessarily hard. It reminded me of an AP class. The main key is to take notes in lectures, attend office hours, practice, and memorize. There is a lot of memorization because its history, but she makes it so worth it. I would definitively recommend taking her class.
Amazing professor. She has a gift for teaching and a passion for history. The lectures can be a lot, but she makes them really entertaining and easy to swallow. She gives many extra credit opportunities and makes it very easy to get a good grade. Almost always available to visit in her office.
Prof. Duffy is amazing. She really cares about the history being taught and makes lectures engaging and fun. You must go to every class or you will miss crucial info, she moves very quickly and covers a lot of little details that will be on the test so take good notes. Put the effort in, study a decent amount and attend class you will be fine.
Professor Duffy is nothing short of amazing. Her lectures are engaging and her coursework makes the content understandable. The projects she gives are fun. engaging, and allows the student to express themselves.
i might be biased bc i do not enjoy history/took for GEP. duffy is the most dedicated history professor. she cares so much & clearly knows what she is talking about. lectures are heavy BUT she tries to make them very entertaining and prepares u for the exams. the exams have a lot of writing& are graded a little harsh but overall not a bad class
Note: Took this class during Summer A Lecture attendance is pretty important. Not much homework besides extra lectures or documents to read. Lenient grading with lots of partial credit. Exams aren't difficult but are majority of final grade. Long office hours, heavily encouraged to go for exam feedback. Overall good history class and great prof.
Incredible professor!! Took both AMH 2010 & 2020 and did great in both. Attendance is mandatory but she's super engaging, lots of fun and actually makes history interesting!! I would take all of her classes if she had any more.
Bombed the her first exam and she helped me to understand how to study for her tests. She wants to see her students succeed and gives you to tools, advice, and opportunities to do so(including a lot of extra credit). As long as you apply yourself and study for exams, you will be fine. One of my favorite teachers of all time.
Loved her class. She is so passionate and makes her lectures very entertaining. VERY helpful in office hours. Quizzes every 2 weeks so you do have to put in work. Felt like there were lots of content to study for in short amount of time for exams (but that is any college course). If you are looking for an easy A with NO effort, don't take her.
Dr. Duffy is genuinely the best teaching instructor I've ever had! She's very energetic, has an insane depth of knowledge, funny, and articulates every concept incredibly well. She cares very much about the success of her students, and offers numerous opportunities to provide help and boost your grade. Do yourself a favor and take her!!
Honestly you can tell how much she loves teaching, wearing outfits similar to the lesson and giving extra credit throughout the semester. Recommend for anyone
Lectures are very important. She encourages students to come to office hours, and they are extremely helpful. There is a lot of memorization, but she offers a generous amount of extra credit, which you should definitely take advantage of. Overall, she genuinely cares about her students, and I wish more professors were like her.
She's so funny and her lectures are really interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't go to class it's hard to keep up, so I would if I were you.
