Sincerely interested in helping stdnts learn the language as well as culture. Brings in articles, short films, etc related to Spanish culture & events. Flexible as teacher. Has a personality. I do not like to rate easiness b/c this is a foreign lang clss.
Fantástico! Amazing professor! She makes you want to be a better student. She truly cares, very motivational and always willing to help. If there were more instructors like Dr. Falzon, NVCC would be a better learning institution.
Excellent teacher. Very difficult, but if you get an A in her class, you deserve it for sure. Only downside is she makes you get your lab hours in per WEEK as opposed to per semester. Has great sense of humor and will make every effort to help you.
Doctora Falzon is relaxed, methodical, straight-forward and low-pressure in her teaching style-also has a great sense of humor. I hated Spanish until I started taking it from her! I highly recommend her to everyone!
for take home quizes and tests take her in 6 weeks, Only As were given unless you missed a classes or came late a lot
Falzon is probably the best professor at NOVA. You will come out of class truly loving Spa. She is clear, understandable, fairly easy exams and quizzes, and genuinely cares about her students. If you really want to learn Spa take this class.
Profesora Falzon is an amazing amazing professor. She is truly competent. If you don't like Spanish, you will. She is just excellent.
Professor Falzon is arguably the most competent and excellent Spanish instructor in Northern Virginia if not the region. She is engaged in her lessons and teaches with passion and subtle humour that keeps even a 2 1/2 hour lecture interesting. It is because of her that I have decided to minor in it!
Dr. Falzon is incredibly dedicated to her students and to their grasp of Spanish. Even students who struggle with the class are not left out--she is wonderful--if you put in a genuine effort, she will give you help.
Mrs.Falzon is the greatest teacher I've ever had, especially for a Spanish class! She is so dedicated to teaching the correct material to her students, that she will spend hours outside the classroom to help. She's a wonderful and extremely bright woman with tons of knowledge to offer her students.
I LOVE MRS. FALZON.HONESTLY, tries her best to help you understand.Doesn't move on until everyone understands.ASK questions if you don't get something, she WILL answer it.Hardly any quizes, or tests. Put forth effort, even if your failing she'll pass you because you tried!!! Best teacher at NOVA.
she is kinda nice if you show good attitude. I don't know why many ppl give her good point but not tricky if you study. but i think she's little clumsy to teach. she needs to have 'skill'. I studied it myself 70% and 30% was helped by her. unfortunately, Nvcc doesn't have good spanish professors.
I got an A. but it's boring class. she tries to make it easy but it helps me just sometimes. compare to other professor (spanish) she's fine. take her. BUT! you have to study by yourself.
A professor who teaches purely to dedication to students and the subject. She will stick by your side as you learn. A bit scattered brain...checks hw that she never assigned, but aren't most Spanish professors? Overall, a good professor, recomended highly.
shes one of the best teachers ive ever had. she knows what shes doing and you can tell she actually likes teaching. if you ever need any help, shes very approachable and will answer all your questions. you just go over hw in class. she tells you exactly what's going to be on the tests. dont be late or miss too many classes (no more than three).
Falzon is incredible! She truly cares about her students. Quizzes and tests come exactly from the book. Attendence counts for 20% of your grade, whereas quizzes are only 15%!! Basically as long as you show up, and do your homework, it should be a breeze. Falzon is by far one of thebest professors I have ever had. STRONGLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!
She tries to be nice to some students, but she really has no idea how to teach. She proves the fact that not everyone who can speak Spanish can teach it. She rambles in her explanations, and can sometimes get an attitude instead of concentrating on teaching. Her grading is ridiculous; 3 absences and u drop a letter grade. Not a good class.
A difficult situation because Dr. Falzon is the best Spa prof. at the Annandale Campus. The problem? She doesn't teach well. Assigns homework before explaining the material. Very difficult class if you haven't had Spa before.
Dr Falzon is very clear on class requirements, and if you attend class, lab and do the homework, you can't help but pass. If you actually study, you can do well. I really like her,and she will do anything to help a student who tries.
If you like to learn independently because the teacher does not explain things well, & go through material so fast that it is a blur, & if you like being grilled and made a spectacle of in front of the class, and if you are taking Spa to only learn grammar, but not be able to speak it - take this class! For the best experince, go to the Alex campus
She is helpful to students she perceives as being "good". But she's been impatient/outwardly hostile w/students who don't understand material and seems to target the class to fluent/native speakers. I took the 8-wk hybrid (3-credit) and it required more work than my other 9 credits. She is very unclear about class requirements.
One warning: she is NOT an easy teacher. However, I get frustrated with how many other students here at NVCC choose professors on "easiness" and not ones that will challenge them or actually motivate them to learn something. Falzon is very challenging, but if you try she will help you and you are more likely to pass.
I had three years of spanish in high school, (I got mostly C's) but I got an A in this class. She's not a hard teacher and she doesn't check the work she assigns, atleast not for a grade. She clearly states that attendance is mandatory in the syllabus and gives people warnigns all through out the year. Her teaching style is to go over assigned work
First I have to say I am a fluent speaker, but this professor helped me to improve my spanish quite a bit and was very helpful to the class as a whole. Take her if you want to learn. attendence is mandatory.
You cannot be more than 5 minutes late to class otherwise that counts as half of an absence. Three or more = one letter grade. You also must attend lab. She is very strict on accents, spelling, and punctuation. You'll learn the first 7 chapters of the book. She's very nice and helpful, though. Not bad at all. Not the best, but certainly not bad to
senora falzon is a nice professor but she is strict. she want no one to be absense...thats a must..she is boaring becaz all u do in her class is go over the last night homework and its really boaring. she uses the textbook alot and the workbook. she also require u to attend the lab so don't take her class if u can't take out 2 hours to go to the la
She's very fun and a delight to listen to. She grades a bit stringently on her tests, but her grading is consistent. Great teaching style; she spend a lot of time on you if you don't know the answer to a question. Make sure you do all your labs.
Got an A and she gave me a B because I missed one more class than she deemed "acceptable"
Doctora Falzon is RAD! You have to actually go to class and do your work (gasp) but you learn the material. She goes around the class for answers so EVERYONE has to participate. So if you want to succeed just be on time do your work and give a little effort. And don't blame her for sticking to her late policy. Show some freaking accountability.
Professor Falzon was extremely agressive and treated my class like third graders, making them write on the board if they were seen talking or looking at a cell phone. My personal feelings; I pay for my classes and I want to enjoy them. --There are much easier ways to pass spanish II--
prof. Flazon was the best spanish teacher i have ever had. i took spanish twice in HS and never even understood it. prof.falzon really helps you out. yes, you have a lot of hw, and the test/quizes are hard, but if you just study, youll pass. and attendance is extremely important. i didnt do so well but i could have if i took the class more serious
Her class is OK. She said if we have more than 3 absences, our grades fell one level. She still canceled 2 classes, and will cancel one class. All our grades go up one level. I'm not old,but I have some skin trouble. She always called me senora. It is harmful and discrimination. She controls our private time. I'm busy, but we should take a lab.
We didn't finish the textbook. The last day of class professor didn't teach us. Two student had the second presentation although one, Rebecca, didn't do a presentation. The professor should teach enough.
DO YOUR HOMEWORK. If you have a problem with that, don't take her. If you have no prob with that, she is the best, funniest, most interesting, most helpful, most organized, most relaxed, most fair (in your favor) teacher I've had. It's terrifying if you don't do your homework, haha but whenever I did it I couldn't believe how great class was! Rec'd
Dra. Falzon is the best teacher. She wants you learn not only the language, but our culture as well. If you do the HW and go to the lab and tutor you will do fine. She is funny, understanding and very fair to all students.
SHE IS THE BEST. DO ALL YOUR HW AND ASK QUESTIONS, SHE WILL ALWAYS TAKE THE TIME TO MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND IT. SHE IS FUNNY AND FAIR GRADING.
WORST LANGUAGE TEACHER IVE EVER HAD. 20 pages of homework a night. complete and total lack of teaching skills. rude when answering questions. rambling and agressive. I feel safe in saying that if I hadn't taken three years of spanish in high school, I'd be so boned right now.
I went in her class with no prior knowledge of spanish and i now know so much. as long as you do the homework and study for the quizzes (and go to lab), it'll be a breeze.
SHE GIVES ALOT OF HOMEWORK.She will give you tons of homework, then when she is done, she will give you more. She is nice thought. Falzon tends to talk about her heritage alot, which I find strange. However, if you did not take spanish in high school, do not take her.
she treated our class like middle schoolers, even threatening to make my friend sit next to her at her desk cuz he n i kept talking. and her attendance policy is RIDICULOUS. one kid had a drs appt he made 3 months in advance so he had to leave early from class which she counted as his 3rd absence - shockingly he dropped the class.
Come to class and come on time. She has a strict attendance policy. She doesn't really teach during the class. She spends the whole time going over the 20 pages of hw from the night before. You need to really know your spanish before taking her. She assumes you know it solid. There aren't many grades, so study for the tests!
Keep up with the HW. She teaches a college level SPA, not high school.Yes,there is a lot hw assigned but doing it is what will help you get through the tests. Her attendance is mandatory so if you miss a day and you havn't taken SPA before go to the lab that is required to catch up. She is a good teacher and wants everyone to learn proper SPA.
Okay, it's true that she is a an extremely strict professor. What do you expect it's college and not high school. She is there to teach and she hates to waste her time. So do the homework (there is a lot) ,study for the test (difficult tests), and show up for class ready to learn. She doesn't BS. So you are looking for an easy a not your class.
Lots and lots of HW assigned every class. You spend the entire class going over the HW. She doesn't really teach, but does answer questions (which will lead into teaching). Try to get her to talk about w/e, it wastes class time. :D Serious students take, lazy ones avoid. Very strict about attendance (will lower your grade if you miss more than 3)
Dr. Falzon is probably the best teacher I have ever had. I am in my 3rd year at NOVA Dr. Falzon is not only a good teacher but a great person and student advisor. Extremely smart, direct and honest. We need more professors like her. She makes sure every student understands what is going on. Homework? Sure, this is college so there is homework.
Great teacher. Explains Spanish in a way that most people can understand. Incredibly helpful and friendly professor. Classes are easy, just do the minimal homework that is assigned. Tests are easy, but only if you study. Presentation project is also easy, and very flexible topic-wise. Only complaint is that the textbooks used are not great.
Borderline impossible to pass if you have a full load of classes. Not usually one to complain about work load but she is ridiculous. Assigned 20+ pages of HW on the first day without going over anything but the syllabus in class. Comes across as arrogant and hostile. To her credit, she does ease up but hardly. Avoid her unless its your only class.
Ms. Falzon is a pretty good teacher, but can be pretty strict. You are definitely expected to participate in class at all times. I got an A from her, and I didn't really have to work all that hard. Do your labs, memorize stuffs, get an A. Gets sidetracked quite a few times, but it's usually interesting to hear her stories (rather than studying).
Exceptional. Clearly explains grammar and conjugation. She will make you work very hard. She prepares you for transfer to a 4 yr college. Very strict but very caring and will give you 110%. If you want the best this is where you want to be.
Awesome professor
She will make you work for your grade. You earn what you get with her, but she goes over and beyond to help you succeed. She definitely equips you for the workload and level of understanding you'll need at Uni. Mandatory attendance and lab. But, she's a great person who wants you to succeed. The lazy students will not like her, ALL OTHERS TAKE!
Extremely difficult teacher. Terse demeanor. She embarrasses those who do not understand the material. Supposedly 101 class for those without a Spanish background. Assumes that you know more than she has covered in class. Assigns homework without going over the material. Killer tests. Do not recommend taking her.
She cares about her students a lot & how well they do. If she sees that they are struggling she will offer help/advice. Attendance is mandatory, if you miss more than 3 classes she will start taking points. She gives extra points by going to the language center in the library. One of my favorite teachers. Don't let her seem intimidating she's nice.
fantastic and wonderful!!!!
strict, a lot of homework, loud and annoying voice.
Professor Falzon was a great teacher. She's a little tough only because she wants to make sure you know the material. Class participation is required she calls on everyone in the class at least once to practice something from the books, or for an answer from the assigned HW so make sure you have done the work. Over all I would recommend her.
Prof. Falzon is an old school type of teacher. She's hard on her students, but only because she knows that we're capable of doing well. She adapts her teaching style based on what her students need individually. If you can stick with her class, you'll end up prepared for 102.
Just the worst. Save yourself some time and take the online course if you have her. Just a waste of time. All she does is give homework and go over homework, WITHOUT LECTURES! Pretty much left to learn the subject on your own. She will not help and gets upset if you ask her to break something down for you. Also she likes to publicly shame you.
She is an okay type teacher. She can really cool at times but she likes to put students on blast when they don't know something. She gives ALOT of homework. her way of checking it is calling on you to see if you know the answer. He tests can be hard. She is a hard grader at times. Takes off 12point for any spelling mistaks and 14 for an grammar
To people who have never taken Spanish before, you will have to work EXTREMELY hard for an A. Although her homework might help, Falzon sets up too many expectations for those who have not taken Spanish. I can see her being helpful for an Intermediate course, but not for beginners. Miss 3.5 classes and your grade drops. She is very traditional.
Slow class and a little unclear at times. Requires you to go to language lab but honestly its the best help you can get. If you get on her bad side, you're on it for good. Really try in her class she really is a nice lady even though she can be a little humiliating at times for students who dont know basics of 101. Took last semester, taking again.
I really enjoyed the presentation, where you can talk about anything you want in Spanish in front of the class. She assigns an hour in the language lab every week, but you can get free tutoring and have a conversation in Spanish which is great! Homework was reasonable, and overall class was good!
I had a great experience in both her 101 and 102 classes, granted I already knew a good deal of Spanish. She's very traditional and honest, but if you get on her good side you'll learn a lot. If you show enthusiasm and effort, she will recognize it in a positive way. You must do the HW to keep up, but she's intelligent and keeps class interesting.
As much as I really liked Prof. Falzon I have to be honest. Down side to class is she only goes over HW each class. If you aren't good at learning on your own I suggest you take another professor. She assigns A LOT of HW. She may come off a little sassy at first but she means well. Make sure you attend class, she drops letter grade after 3 absences
Worst professor I'e ever had. She calls people out on their mistakes in front of the whole class and humiliates them. She assigns A LOT of homework and uses the whole class period to go over it. She only teaches from the book and does not/cannot explain anything to you if you need help and gets easily annoyed/frustrated if you have any questions.
Show up to class, do all the homework, and you'll be fine. She's tough but fair and she will go above and beyond to help you if you show you're willing to put in the work. Took her for 101 and 102 will hopefully will take 201 with her too. NVCC is lucky to have such competent instructors.
DO NOT TAKE HER! She will call you out in class. She is very impatient and she WILL humiliate you. It's not worth it. She ruined my whole semester.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. It is a begin Spanish course and she expects you to know everything before class begins. She has everyone write answers on the board and then laughs at you if you are incorrect. It is very degrading and a makes for a bad learning environment.
Clear expectations (read syllabus), have to show up and have your homework done, there's a test after each chapter. Although it seems a lot (homework, lab, tests, etc.) with a little bit of commitment you can learn a lot - no surprises at tests. Calling everybody one by one while checking homework a good opportunity to have your questions answered.
Took her for summer class and she said that if I had 2 absences or 7 tardies, my grade is an automatic zero. I took her because she had no rating on here and once I got to class, I decided I should do everyone a favor and let y'all know. and there is A LOT of reading too.
She cares about all her students and wants everyone to learn. If you actually care and try then you will do well. I will be taking her class next semester.
Truly a nice, caring person who gives valuable advice but not the best class. Tests are hard but that's justified bc it's 201. Online hw. One essay. 1 hour a week in the tutoring center required. 1 presentation on any topic you want. Every class we just go over the hw as a class. Always goes over class time. Worst thing: doesn't post grades on BB!!
Ms. Falzon is definitely not for everyone. She can be a bit harsh and her homework is just the next day's class work. Best advice to you is to do the pre-work. There are several test sprinkled around. Attendance and the weekly lab make up 20% of your grade. You'll likely pass, just be ready to show a lot of effort.
Ms. Falzon is a polarizing teacher, there are students who either love her or hate her. She tends to assign an excessive amount of homework that only those well versed in Spanish are able to complete on time. She also tends to have favorites in the class as well. If you are an average full-time student taking the class, find another professor.
If you skip, you won't pass, but if you have a car accident or get sick you also won't pass. Does not excuse absence or tardiness regardless of cause, grades on attendance. Class time is 20% practicing the language and 80% ranting about phones or Catholicism or other tangents. If you value your time, spend an hour a day on Duolingo and test out.
Online homework application isnt finished. Teacher doesnt give valid responses to questions.
Very tough. Take her if you actually want to learn spanish! Not an easy A. Very fast paced.
Falzon is a tough but doable teacher. She grades tough and takes off whole points for little things like accent marks or wrong genders. Classes are spent almost entirely going over homework in the textbook. Overall if you want to get at least a B, do the homework ahead of time, study on your own for quizzes, participate in class, and go to lab.
Its an easy class, you do homework, labs, and show up and you get an A. But she goes off on tangents about things that have NOTHING to do with what youre learning about and constantly complains about todays generation. If youre already fluent in spanish, expect her to say something about what you know because shes never wrong.
Prof. Falzon is difficult. She is a tough grader and assigns a ton of homework, but she really cares about her students. I had her for SPA 101-202 and I had my ups and downs, but she always encouraged me and helped me succeed to transfer out of NOVA. I really respect her and if she sees that you're trying, she will definitely respect you too.
Prof. Falzon is rude to her students and expects them to arrive to class already being fluent in the language. Has no online presence whatsoever and rarely responds to emails. She likes to call out students in front of the class and embarrass them if they don't know the answer. Just because you can teach, doesn't mean you should.
She has no online presence. She degrades you in front of the entire class and humiliated you if you get something wrong. She gives you a ton of homework. She goes on long tangents about how this generation is a disgrace and always on our phones. I do not recommend taking her she is awful.
Gets VERY impatient with students who don't learn languages quickly (& even with some who do) & is disrespectful when you make a mistake. Definitely picks favorites. Copious amounts of online homework & textbook reading. Standards are unreasonable; I got a 92% in the class and she told me I needed to"step it up."
