She is so nice and helpful, if ur thinkin about chem...take her!
Very nice professor and very helpful. The best pro. ever
very nice
love her. very nice unlike someone
absolutely recommend her!! she is the nicest prof that you'll ever have! very helpful and understanding! teaches very well but tests can be a little tricky!!
This class was a challenge. She really takes time in lectures.... her tests are hard. Her personality soft. Wow! What a combo.
nice, sweet, smart, fair...good chem teacher
Very difficult to understand, both in accent and what she is tryiong to convey. Hard tests. Has a tough time getting thoughts out clearly, seems like she stumbles through them
She helped whenever I needed it. The class was not easy, but if you study you can do it. She was very nice. She doesn't waste too much time on personal stories. She gets right down to business. She will prepare you for tests. Lots of scheduled quizes!
This class is easy as long as one keeps up with the homework. Some concepts are difficult, but she is very patient and helpful. She has a beautiful accent, and she is very SEXY!
The class is hard, and you really have to study. Sometimes she went a little quick for me but she was always willing to help. And I think she really wants people to understand, and pass!
I have this teacher for chem 1b and her teaching style left something to be desired. Her tests and quizes didn't match her material and this made them very frustrating to take. She was a very nice teacher but I don't feel that I learned a lot while in her class.
I had Dr. Ricardez for the Spring 2004 semester. She was very knowledgeable about the subject, and presented the material very clearly for the most part. Her exams followed directly from homeworks, so if you do your reading and practice with the problems, you WILL get an A; she doesn't throw any curveballs, trust me. Labs are fun and easy.
I rates a 5 for my interest because she is a very easy instructor- TRUST ME!- She keeps on asking you "Is it clear?", and she goes over everything VERY SLOWLY that I have to sleep during the class. Quizes, tests, and lab experiments are EASY for you IF you took CHEM3A before!
Shes usually clear on what she teaches.. take easy classes with this one though because it is a lot of memorization in studying and she grades kinda tough.
I never thought I could understand chemistry but she made is simple and clear. Not an easy class but so much better then KIM. she is really good teacher and does not play favorites. I would recommend her but have to work for the grade.
she explain everything in detail and she also tutors wich helps she is a good teacher!!!
Dr. Ricardez does a great job at explaining Chemistry slowly and clearing. I would highly recommend her for all Chemistry classes.
Dr. Ricardez is an amazing professor & goes the extra mile to explain everything slowly. She really loves to teach & does an excellent job.
I had Professor Ricardez for Chem 3A, 1A & 1B. She does a fantastic job explaining chemistry. She is very approachable & willing to help all students - I will definitely miss her!
She is a great teacher. do your homework and you will do fine. Better than most all chem teachers.
Alicia is a great teacher! Take her for chem.1 and 2. She will prepare you for further studies in chemistry. Her intro. to Organic was good. Oh and she's HOT for a chemistry teacher!
awesome teacher! too bad she is not teaching for a year or so because she is doing a project for the school. very easy to approach and is always willing to answer questions! shes very fair in her grading and the class was challenging, but hey all chem classes are challenging! she was always prepared to teach. highly recommend taking her classes!
Alright... she's a nice lady. She really is. She constantly is asking if the material makes sense, and will totally help out where she can. She knows what students do and don't do, so it's advisable to take the hint when she says to study something that's hard. But, she has an accent, so pay attention. Overall, she's alright.
This class is easy most of the way through it gets more difficult at the last quarter. Good teacher, not the best. Explains the material with good clarity. Tries to answer all questions. This class in gerneral requires a bit of your time but not all of it. She has a litlle problem with words but is very clear, probably bilingual.
DR. Ricardez was extremely helpful throughout the course. She really cares about her students learning the material. We also had an SI student and she helped a lot when Dr. Ricardez was not able to. The experiments are pretty easy, pair up with someone that is good at math!Overally i would recommend her to everyone!
really nice lady
This is a difficult class, so prepare to work hard! I would reccommend Dr Ricardez, but she does not cut you any slack at all and is a little intimidating/condescending in person. Still, she is a really nice woman and a good teacher imo, lectures are eacy enough if you pay attention, doesn't give enough time on labs. Definitely not an easy A!
Sometimes unclear because of her accent. Her tests and quizzes are extremely difficult, so don't take it lightly. I'd rather take her than Dr. Kim for anything...
Great teacher always willing to help and so sweet. She was always good with explanations and knew how to teach the material well. Tests and quizzes are hard but she tries to help with that in review. Labs could be fun but its hard to get a perfect score. Ended up with a B in the class needs but it needs hard work and good study skills.
A really great teacher though kind of on the tough side. She cares if you're struggling and will help you out. Quizzes and tests are hard but gives you sufficient practice along the way.
Very nice professor. Always willing to help. Lectures are really helpful and straight forward. Try not to miss lecture or you might regret it. Overall, she teaches really well. But you have to really work for it.
very hard to understand.very boring & repetitious I had to self teach myself majority of the way. exams don't match her teaching material because she gets them frm a test bank.tries to help but most of the time confuses you even more. Out of 4 sections only 6 A's. Gets too much ahead of herself. She Lectures to the board and very unorganize
I had her as my professor for the lab portion of this class. She is very helpful if you need better understanding about something.
Dr.Ricardez is always willing to help her students. There are no extra credits in her class, so take it seriously and be well-prepared for quiz and exam. It's not an easy A, so you really have to work for it.
If you taken a chem in HS and was good at it then chem1a will be easy. If not, take chem3a. She is nice and approachable. She prints out everything needed. Use Google rather than the book for help. If you do all the homework, that is studying right there. I can't see how other students struggled in this class unless they never taken chem b4.
She is incredibly helpful. If something is not clear just go ask her to clarify it and she will take the time to help you. She really wants her students to succeed so she is always there to help out. You will need the book because there are many extra problems in there to help practice solutions etc... The book helped a lot as well.
Come on, it's chemistry, don't even expect an easy A class. She is a very nice instructor, knows her stuff well, prints lecture ppt for students. Once u put ur effort in her class, prepare&do the labs carefully, and study hard for the exams, u will get paid off. Grade A is very achievable!
I think what makes this class hard is the sheer volume of work thrown at you. Dr. Ricardez is an amazing professor! Her tests are EXTREMELY TRICKY. You need to put at least 5 hours of studying. Go to the SI sessions and tutoring. It helps a lot. Labs are easy. Book is IMPORTANT. It's not an easy A. But an A is possible. Good Luck!
Very helpful teacher! Gives plentiful examples and never makes you feel dumb when answering questions. Some of her test questions are a bit tricky. She gives no extra credit. Book is not mandatory because all the powerpoints she gives are in the lecture notes. Overall ill take her again :)
Must do ALL ODD textbook problems to do well on the tests!!! Get a solutions manual if possible!!! Study handouts!! Memorize formulas and read the textbook if time permits. You just need to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. I got an A in Chem1B because I reviewed daily and practiced a lot :D Good luck. May the odds be ever in your favor!!!!
Great teacher! Did very good with preparing me for o chem that I took at san jose state! Thank you ricardez! Taking biochem now! Learn your acids and base reactions and equations you will need them!!
Chemistry in general is a hard subject. Overall this Professor is good. I got an A, but because I showed up to every lab and almost all lectures and showed effort. You don't really need the Tro textbook because she hands out powerpoints but it definitely helps to read before lectures. A lot of quizzes but they help u see what u need to work on.
Ricardez is one of the most helpful professors I have ever had. Though there is sometimes a language barrier which makes her hard to understand, she will teach the material over and over until the students get it. If you ask her questions, she knows her stuff.
LOVED this professor. She gives you all the materials you need including powerpoints so textbook isnt so much needed for reading. Moreover, she gives out multiple choice questions. My advice, DO EVERY SINGLE PROBLEM IN THOSE MULTIPLE CHOICE PACKETS. They are past exam questions she AND Dr. Kim have used. I did that, and received an A in the class.
Take her not kim,Germarnik, etc..! Got a B 1A and A 1B. Learned from reading the book ahead of time and then going to her lectures, sometimes I wouldn't even go. Exams are easy, if you studied. People that complain didn't read. READ THE BOOK can't stress that enough. She's nice and gives extra credit quiz and curves when needed. Finals were easy.
Dr. Ricardez is by far my favorite teacher here at Delta. She really does care about the students. Make sure to go to her office hours and ask her any questions that you might have. The chemistry textbook is also a really good reference to use if you dont understand something. Dont be afraid to ask her questions; she is willing to help anyone!!
Don't listen to the reviews saying she will curve exams when needed. Most of our class has failed the last couple exams and she refuses to curve it. There are maybe a couple of people getting As and the rest are mostly C's and below. She is definitely easier than Kim though and she is very nice.
Myself and the people around me genuinely understood what we did in class, yet still got Ds and Fs on the exams. The problems were different and much more tricky and she won't curve. Get ready for your life to revolve around this class if you want to pass.
Lecture is 80% of your grade despite how many hours you spend in lab. You HAVE to do well on exams in order to pass. She doesn't curve. She is very kind but please please please don't expect the exams to be like the practice tests because they aren't.
Dr. Ricardez is an amazing professor. Although this class was hard (what chemistry class isn't?) Ricardez always wanted to help and she figures out different ways to teach you. She is extremely nice and cares a lot for her students. Reading the book is a must in this class and if you still do not understand the material go to her office hours!
I have to say that it was a challenge to get an A. Every point matters so always try your best to get the highest grade you can in everything. Reading the book and her notes helped a lot for the exams and quizzes, so always do it before one. Even though her English is not that clear, she is very knowledgeable, never doubt to ask her questions.A
It's a tough class (what other science classes isn't?). She provides study guides before each exam, it helps, but don't ever expect it to slightly match with the real exams. This will be the class you'll invest most of your time on! Don't be afraid to ask her questions because she cares of her students to fully understand everything. Good luck!
If you are not good in math do not take this class. Yes most of the topics are on youtube and they help. Go to office hours she lets you do study groups and she really helps her students. As long as you study her practice exam questions you should pass. The test are really difficult and tricky need to understand chemistry concept and Calculus.
Professor Ricardez makes Chemistry understandable and is willing to help you out with any of it. I strongly recommend reading the book, doing the practice exams, and reviewing all quizzes before the exam. Lectures are also key to passing the class. Take note of what she says and review all examples given during lecture.
U need to know Calculus there is a lot of math involved nothing like chem1a. She drops 1quiz and quizzes only have 6 questions so you need to know everything. There is a lab exam she lets you use notes pick a good lab partner or you'll regret it trust me. Ask questions go to office hours. Test and quizzes are very hard and lots of tricky questions
Study guides are nothing like the exams, every question on the exam is tricky, doesn't teach very well, moves on with material very fast and expects everyone to know and be ready to be tested on it, Quizzes are very confusing, Tutoring barely helps, Get ready to hurt your GPA with this class.
The professor is nice, but isn't really good at teaching her material, we constantly use worksheets from other professors, and her test are confusing, get to to look over your test countless times, study guide only helps with around 10% of the real test, everything else you have to read the word problem over and over
General Chem isn't an easy A class, but Dr. Ricardez tries to make it as easy to understand as possible. Receiving an A in the class is doable, but be ready to work for it. READ and PRACTICE daily. She emails the test practice problems beforehand, offers SI and tutoring; SEEK help as soon as you're lost and try not to fall behind. I recommend her!
A really great professor. She hands out lecture notes in order for you to follow along. If you have trouble with the subject, don't wait until the last minute to study! Her tests are easy if you study the concepts as well as if you know how to do the calculations for the math problems. 4 Tests plus the final. Weekly Quizzes. Be there for the labs.
I had Dr. Ricardez for Chem 3A, 1A, and 1B. She is very nice and caring. You need to pay attention in class, ask questions when you are slightly confused, do the practice problems she emails, and review. If you have questions she will help and she loves to do so. As long as you do what she says you will likely get an A or a B. Good Luck!
Extremely hard professor. Her tests are nothing like the material or practice exams. Please dont take her. Shes nice but not good at explaining the material very well.
This class was pretty hard and the end of the semester really gets boring, but she is better than other chemistry professors. I wanted to take Chem 1B with her but she only teaches it in the fall.
She's the best at delta, if u wanna pass. The other's have horrible comments. Honestly, go to lecture and memorize how she teaches math(chem) problems, memorize formulas and small concepts. Do the worksheets for confidence even tho its nothing like exams, and ask questions- she will literally help to make u understand.
Her lectures are terrible and she is horrible when explaining topics especially when students have questions about it. Her practice exams don't compare to her actual tests (MUCH more difficult), and for the final she changed it from 20 questions to 37 questions and didn't tell her students till about 10:30 PM the night before the final. NO CURVES.
DO NOT TAKE HER! I'm a straight A student and this class ruined me. She's horrible at responding questions and she never emails you back. Her lectures and practice exams are nothing like the exams. All of the practice sheets and worksheets that she makes you do, does not help at all. Save yourself the headache and the stress. Do not take her.
Dr. Ricardez is good at responding to emails and wants to help. It was hard for me to keep up sometimes because she skips steps when working problems out sometimes, so it takes a second to understand where she got certain numbers from. Other than that, she is straight forward. No extra credit offered and no additional leniencies. Okay, overall.
This class with take a toll on you mentally. Her practice tests are nothing like the actual tests at all, only like 5% of the practice test material is on the actual test. The amount of material thrown at you will make sure that you have no time for other classes except hers, and failing even one test can doom you. Avoid this class at all costs
We take a quiz almost once every week and some of the practice stuff she gives us to "help" on the test does not prepare at all us for the quiz or exams. She has lecture videos in her modules but it isn't even her that is doing the recorded lecture. On top of this, she does not teach during her lecture times, instead she does 2 practice problems.
DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! She doesnt teach during her lectures and gives practice problems to "resemble" the exams but they arent similar to anything on the exams. Exams during online class are timed and you cant go back to questions after you are done or have any reflection on which ones you missed.
This is definitely a hard class, especially online. Be ready for a lot of assignments. Watch all the lectures and study a lot for tests. Ask for any clarification, she will get back to you. Nice and good professor, though I would wish she made her own lecture videos. But that is a minor detail as the lectures she uses are good. Good choice.
She is a good person and explains concepts fine. Just that she does give us a short amount of time to learn a lot of material in little time. Weekly quizzes and tests every three weeks. Labs every week too. Very hard class. You will need to dedicate a solid 10 hours or more each week to this class. Stay on top in the class for sure.
I took her online. She makes you to do a lot of material in a week. And you have to watch many videos. she is ok.
Horrible Professor. Incredibly incompetent and arrogant. Her class is full of so much make work that does nothing but consume precious time. She herself does not value education but what little power trip she gets in belittling her students. I have never met someone so disrespectful.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR AT YOUR OWN RISK! DO NOT, I SAY AGAIN. SHE IS RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL OF OTHERS. SHE GIVES YOU TEN ASSIGNMENTS AND TWO QUIZZES FOR EACH WEAK. THE ASSIGNMENTS ARE worth OF 0.5%. THE EXAMS ARE THE BASE FOR THE WHOLE CLASS. SHE GIVES A LOT OF HOMEWORK. I DON'T RECOMMEND HER IN ANY WAY. SHE WANTS YOU TO FAIL THE CLASS!!!!!!!!!
there is no retakes on any quizzes or tests, your grade is what you get and you need to memorize a lot of material in a short amount of time
She hands out work as though we do not have other classes and jobs. She doesnt let you see what problems you got wrong on her quizzes or tests. She is the kind of professor that only gets in the way and hinders education. Avoid this class, she is unreasonable and awful.
Worst Professor Ive ever had. Quizzes worth 80% of the grade every single week. No backtracking and doesnt let you see what questions you got wrong. Shes not much help when you ask her questions either. She makes you do way too much work every week and expects you to work even during spring break. She does not want you to succeed.
she provides lots of practice in prep for quizzes and exams, also plenty of time during and outside of class to ask for help. take good notes and do the homework and youll be fine.
Any student who says Ricardez is a bad professor is because they did not put in their own time to learn the material and want someone to blame who isn't themselves. This was a HYBRID class so all the lectures are online so be ready to use the materials from the lectures in class. She has office hours for help both online and in person!
I had to take this class two times and still failed. this class is extremely test heavy and even after going to tutoring 2 times a week for 2 hours and doing the extra yellow page books that she has I still failed twice! I really don't get it. Even when she would see everyone drop her class like flies it sucks to see nothing was really changed
Too much homework, should be an aid for people that need help, not a punishment. Lecture videos are enough to understand the material. Got 10% over the class average on exams, still got a D, thats how bad they are. Dismissive professor, won't respond to email, short responses in class, low class exam avg. DOES NOT CURVE. AVOID THIS PROF.
The worst gen chem professor at Delta. I had to drop her class twice. The amount of hw is insane and it's only worth 20% of the grade. 80% of the grade is tests/quizzes and the average is a F. I took the class with Dr. Ellison instead and passed with an A. That just shows how bad Ricardez's teaching/expectations are. Do not take her. Save your GPA.
I took her class over the summer and it was a blast. Not going to lie but this class has tons of homework, quizzes and exams. The exams are worth 80% of your grade and doing 5 exams in 6 weeks was alot but it was manageable. She always makes sure if you understand and will be there outside of the class. If taking her, be prepared for tons of work.
Ton of online homework. Didn't answer three of my canvas messages while I had a family emergency. Dropped the class because I wasn't given the option to make up work. Only got anything higher than a 90% on quizzes if I spent HOURS doing practice work. Had a pretty good grade and paid for the textbook so I was pretty upset about dropping the class.
Professor Ricardez was awesome! Her exam questions are a reasonable difficulty level and she gave us some diagrams and formulas on note sheets. Labs were easy to complete and didn't require a ton of write-up. The textbook was super dense, so go to lecture. She's super nice and actually allowed me to make-up a lab due to a family vacation.
One of the worst professors to take Chem 1A. I took professors Ellison and Day and her exams and quizzes were way easier. I had to retake this class and most students did too.
She marks every little think on the labs and she barely gives partial. You must do everything her way even if you get the right answer with the exact steps. Her lectures were awful and I learned everything online. I do not recommend her please take another professor.
Her lecture is good and understanding, but the grading system is 80% based on quizzes and tests only, homework and others are either 10 or 5%. She barely gave students to do a labwork, besides writing tons of work(5%) and quizzes(80%). Taking it again? NO.
Professor Ricardez is very nice and very a very approachable professor. Don't be afraid to ask questions because she will help you and explain the details relating to your questions. This class is graded by 80% tests and quizzes, so it's best you ask questions frequently so you don't fall behind.
Her class is heavy work. Your grade will be based on what you get for quizzes and test. The homework that are assigned barely affect your grade even though she assigns so much. This class was ok but won't recommend it, take other professors instead.
Dr. Ricardez was very caring and always willing to help out her students understand the topics in second-semester chemistry. Most of your grade comes from exams and quizzes, but her study guides were extremely helpful in studying for the exams. You do have to put in a lot of work as second-semester chemistry is a lot more math involved.
Dr. Ricardez is a good professor who wants her students to pass. A lot of tedious online homework that barely affects your grade. However, when it comes to lab she is helpful as she is there to help. Her lectures are extremely boring so I read the book. She provides a lot of practice problems which I highly recommend as well as always helping.
This class is a lot more math (algebra) heavy than chem1A; there are a lot more intense concepts than chem1A. She has office hours everyday and I recommend doing the practice problems as they reflect what may be on the exam! She helped me so much and for that she is great. Her lecture however, can be boring as there is no flare; the room is bland.
Do not take this professor!!! Your grade is 80% tests and quizzes, don't even bother doing the homework or lab reports. She was very rude to me many times for absolutely no reason. The way she teaches is so confusing and hard to understand. If you ask her to go over a topic you do not understand she gets irritated!
Not a hard teacher, just a bad one. Her lab questions are incredibly ambiguous and she doesn't give any redos. Some of the stuff she teaches is quite literally just wrong, for example, she doesn't believe in ambiguous zeros for sig figs. Insane amount of homework too. If you want an A, take her class, but if you want to really learn, dont take it.
Challenging but manageable with dedication. Exams are heavy, but professor Ricardez is helpful if you engage. Unstuck ai and the textbook can be great study aids.
She was extremely unclear on quiz/exam subjects. She rarely gave out partial credit and I had to learn everything on my own.
Very nice lady, but oh my god she is horrible. This is my second semester with her and i cant wait for it to be over. She consistently makes you do homework BEFORE she teaches the subject, and then she teaches it the week after the hw was due, its ridiculous. Dont take her if you actually like chemistry, she will make you hate it.
DONT TAKE HER
Horrible lectures, overcomplicates simple material. Don't even try communicating with her. All of her material was used from other professors, even lab demonstrations THAT WERE ONLINE. Horrible communicator, you're better off learning with GPT.
She does not know how to explain. The TA does a better job. She uses other professors' materials. Her exams are worded in such a way they're difficult to understand. She does not express an interest in helping students, she shows no emotion or compassion. You're better off taking another professor.
Despite what other people say about Ricardez, she is an amazing professor. Her class is very hard but as long as you put in a lot of effort studying the material and practice problems then you should pass. Ricardez isn't like these other difficult professors, she will take as much time as needed until you understand a concept.
Took her class for 1A & 1B. She's very approachable if she sees you trying in her class she will help you succeed. Her exams are way harder than her quizzes but she does give you a lot of practice problems to do. DO TAKE 3A IF YOU DON'T HAVE A GOOD BACKGROUND OF CHEM.
Please do not take her it's not worth risking your GPA she's sweet as a person but she truly can't teach and it's very disorganized. Her files are all over the place since she took them from another professor, gives you quizzes every week, her practice tests barely give you enough insight on the actual test and doesn't label packets with the Ch#.
I know she is caring and wants students to pass the class but she focuses on too many things. She will go over the easiest parts of lecture more than anything like DUH WE UNDERSTAND but she will hesitate to teach you or go over again the hard demanding material. She is okay at best.
