hard to understand her....she knows her stuff but doesnt necessarily know how to teach it

I had to switch to another teacher. Dont get me wrong, she is very nice, she was just going along way too slow, almost like we were retards. It was kind of hard to understand her at times due to her heavy accent. I took Julio Garcia instead and was happy with him.

At first I thoguht she was a horrible teacher but once you get to know her and go to her office to ask her when you are not clear; she is very nice. It is true that she has a thick accent but she'll explain it 500 times if she has to. Is not that I am recomending her but is not as bad as many say. It is up to you to take her.

She was always worried about the class, and giving oportunities for the students to learn and make it up, besides, she was always in a good mood and willing to explai.

She is a nice teacher but does not know how to teach the class...To pass, do independant study and see her during her office hours( she teaches much better one on one) she does help during a test but only to a certain extent..remind her to pass out review guides prior to exam...attendance helps grade...projects are easy...Good Luck

I had taken CAL2 before so I knew what she was talking about, but had it been my 1st time I would have been lost. She explains things in a weird way and has an accent that may confuse non-spanish speakers. She is open to questions and will work w/ you outside of class. She knows what she's talking about. Recommend if you're a math person, if not...

This is a great teacher. Is always willing to help if you ask for the help. Take good notes, and study them and will pass just fine.

Great professor, she takes the time to explain and makes sure you understand. She will repeatedly do exercises that will help to understand the material.

IT IS A VERY CHARISMATIC TEACHER AND ENTHUSIASTIC. SHE ENCOURAGES YOU AND IS WILLING TO HELP YOU ALL THE TIME WHEN YOU DON´T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING. all u have to do is pay attention and participate in her class.. easy A if you study. for this class she allows an index card cheat sheet for tests. homework she assigns is extra credit.! take her

She explains her material pretty well. You just have to follow the book. She is pretty nice, tries to help you with everything. Explains with hard examples. Some of the exam questions are from the review section or book examples. you can use index cards.

Guys, this is not Highschool anymore. Yes, she might throw tough tests, but she explains very well. Besides, she goes over and over again whenever the class does not understand the material. Lastly, she has real office hours and you can ask her about anything, she is 100% willing to help you! If you want to pass with a good grade, don't miss class

She is a great professor but has one major major flaw. She presents the material and that's all. When you ask to give more examples she gives them and doesn't like to explain in class. Many of us bombed tests due to this. I recall her not wanting to show us how to solve an example, while having plenty of time in class to do so...

Wonderful teacher! I hate math with a passion I reserve for very few other things, but she made it fun. Her tests are difficult, no doubt, but she explains concepts clearly and is always willing to spend her own time to help. Her accent was not an issue for me at all, and her analogies (flowers, cabanas, etc)were a pleasant vacation from math-speak

Great Professor!She takes her time with the book, and you can tell she has a passion for the subject. You will learn in her class, but *you must study*. Don't go in thinking you can just listen to the lecture and make it. Do your homework, ask questions, listen in class. A great professor! It's up to you how well you do!

Professor Serfaty is a teacher very dedicated to the science of learning, she tried many different methods of presenting the material. She is very wary when you ask her a question because she beleives that she already explained it perfectly and this can leave you a little dazed by her defensive quickness to solve your "issue". Do not procrastinate!

I have taken this professor for both Pre-Cal&Trig & Cal I. She's more than glad to help during office hours. She might ramble a bit, but may be helpful. Overall as long as you study for her exams a good chunk(preferable from her reviews) you can pass this class with a good grade. She allows a "cheat sheet" for tests that helps ALOT! Good luck.

Very nice person, has a pretty strong accent but is understandable. I took calculus and she gives tough projects using Maple or Mathematica. was very difficult. Tests are kind of hard, final is multiple choice. Teaches pretty well otherwise. I would not exactly recommend if there are better choices.

She is a good professor... she explain every single detail of how you get the answers... she explain the whole class with the book... i didnt buy it an still understanding, so it is up to you if you buy it or not... take notes and you would get an A in the class!!!

Amazing teacher! Extremely helpful but very fair, no extra credit' plenty of homework. Few reviews but if you study you can ace everything. No multiple choice in tests and the class is pretty time-consuming if you're not good at calculus 1 already. Love her!

professor is creative to show difficult things,like a flashlight shining on the line of a graph to get the range or domain.she knows how hard this course is for you, so she grades with a curve & E.C. is the homework. I ACED HER CLASS, but I studied HARD & got a great foundation. unlike others how studied for chem and complained about falling math.

I had this professor for Calculus I and I was scared because she has bad rate on this site, but she doesn't diserves them. Calculus is a really hard course and I think that is why some people may think she is a horible professor but she is not. She is very helpful and really cares for your grade if you show her that you care about the class.

tests are hard, mostly because she throws little curves in. but she breaks a math problem down so perfectly that youll master the concepts. overall i want to take her class for calculus next semester!

This teacher is clear and precise in her teaching. The tests are relatively easy if you study, although she throws some curve balls here and there. You take 3 examsthe whole semester and final is optional to replace the lowest test. Over all: very good teacher, you will learn your calculus.

i love this woman! shes the best! tests are hard but you make index cards and can write any cheats you want on them! so its impossible to do bad! just write one problem of each kind on it! only thing she doesnt cover logarithms and im paying fo it now :(

This teacher is very good if you want to learn. I took her for calc 1 and she was very helpful. She is available on her office so take advantage of that. However, her class is not easy and requires alot of work. If you do the hw you should be fine. I got an A but it wasn't easy and had to study alot. Basically 3 tests 1 final (optional)

I found Prof Serfaty to be a great teacher. She's very hands on and takes time to individually look at each student. Her tests are hard but the final was SO easy. she also drops your lowest test score. if you study you should be fine

She's a nice lady and very smart professor. Make sure you work out the exercises in class, do the homework and swing by her office hours once in a while, she's extremely helpful. If you have to go further into math or really want to learn TAKE HER! if you just need one math class pick somebody easier. The key to ace her class is PRACTICE.

Wonderful person who is passionate about teaching, she'll never give up on you as long as you keep trying. Her class is not easy and takes a lot of work, but worth it if you are majoring in the field and really want a solid understanding.

The class was extremely organized. No mystery with due dates, what chapter we're covering, and what to study for. Her tests we're a little hard, but not bad if you studied. I did the entire review section in the book before the class started, which really helped. Overall all, the class was fair, and she was there to help. I got an A (studied a lot)

Class may be difficult of you lack math skills. Otherwise it is fairly easy. There are a lot of practice opportunities prior to being tested. I recommend taking advantage of them. One mistake early on a 5-10 step solution would lead to a lot of pointless work for a wrong answer.

the best math teacher on mdc north campus; sweet, nice, and helpful. You will learn a lot. She gives a lot of opportunities to understand and practice makes perfect. She also reviews before exams and gives extra credit opportunity to drop your lowest grade.

She is better than how sh is portrayed on here, does tend to ramble at the beginnin of the semester but if you do ask for help( in class or office hours) SHE WILL HELP lol i think 5 test (I passed w/ 2D's, 1C, & a B, did bad on the quizzes(extra credit so dsnt count against you) and i think and A on the finl(she rounded my fnl grad. She's not a horrible professor at all. If she sees you try, she gives you a chance. Now about the trying part, you should check her office hours. Show her you care. Study the problems worked out in the class, not in the homework. Always highlight the hard problems worked in class. Attend class and learn how to do the problems.

I took this course blended online and one day of the week in the classroom. Horrible thing! Chose either online or in campus, my recommendation! Because i felt like i was wasting my time going in to classroom she expected us to know the work but I didn't it was soo hard learned about 10% of the work. But she was very caring regarding my grades!

Alicia is a great professor. She explains the problems slowly so you can understand it. Although her Hispanic accent is really strong, which may difficult to understand a few words, she gives a lot of extra credit to make you learn and a have a good grade

She's the first college professor I've had, and she was pretty good. Her lectures are a little fast-paced, but if you go to her office hours, she is helpful. As long as you take good notes and study them, you should do well on the tests.

Professor Serfaty is a wonderful educator. I have her for a blended course and I am currently passing with flying colors. I don't review material beforehand, I just wait until I get to class to have her explain what we're learning (if you aren't very good at math I wouldn't suggest taking her with a blended course).

Professor Serfaty is one of the greatest professors at MDC. I took her for a blended course so she expected us to go over the lessons before coming to class. Her lectures were based on the text. The tests were show-your-work but extremely simple so long as you practiced and reviewed what she taught in class. 10/10!!!

I took Professor Serfaty for an online class. She is very brilliant in her field but understands that students may struggle with mathematics. Math can be difficult, so that is not on her. She gives enough room for trial and error if you do each assignment with care. She wants students to be successful. But do the work. All of it. So glad I took her

Just finished MGF1106 online with this professor. Honestly not sure why her reviews arent great. Her communication is outstanding compared to other professors. I understand that math is not the easiest subject, but its not the professors fault. She does a great job and there are plenty of resources if you need help. I would definitely take again.

Professor Serfaty is a great teacher. She knows her material very well. This is the second time I've taken her for a cal class. She gives multiple examples and asks the students whether they understand or if she wants us to repeat what she said. Cal is a very lecture heavy course, I would suggest to study and work on various book examples at home.

Great teacher who breaks down concepts well and solves problems in class. Shes attentive, often checking if everyone grasps the ideas. I earned a B by regularly doing homework, taking notes, and improving through multiple attempts at homework problems. The challenging aspect was that most of the grades relied on tests, which felt a bit intimidating

Great class, no complaints, amazing lectures. Try to get to understand her methods because they'll be useful throughout. Be ready to get some practice done at home, and go to lectures because they are important due to the amount of content. The handouts she gives will be your best friends. I would definitively taker her again.

I loved her!! If you're good at math she's a great option: easy homework, 4 quizzes, and 4 tests. However, if you're bad at math, I wouldn't pick her cause her explanations can be a bit confusing at times. She's very sweet and silly!

Professor Serfaty De Markus is a great resource, especially for students good at math. The class can be challenging, but using tools like unstuck study alongside the textbook helps make the material manageable.

Professor since PreCalc&Trig. Amazing professor and I truly mean it. Her classes and exams are meant for you to learn and practice rather than completing a book and stressing you out; put the effort and get rewarded by yourself with the skills, though it can get tryhard: go and attack. This professor was great, she allows you to bring a bunch of handouts and a page of your own notes to each test. Attendance was not mandatory and there was an optional final that could replace your lowest test grade. Although sometimes she is a little scatterbrained, I found her to be a great lecturer, and a fair grader.
