very nice, good class if youre just required to take history
professor tucker is an excellant teacher, she provides you w/a study guide for every chapter that are the exact material needed for her exams. she makes sure u r more than prepared for her exams. i liked her class so much im now enrolled in her 122 and so did the majority of my 121 class
She's awesome! I was in the summer class for almost 4 hours a day, twice a week, and she managed to make history more fun. I never fell asleep! She realizes it's a summer course, so doesn't have very much work for us. Just a couple one page critiques, and internet project, and two tests. Very nice and accomodating.
Took the class for the summer - very easy to follow. She gives out a study guide for the chapter, and her outline is online. download the outline, go to the lecture, and you'll be able to fill in the study guide. She then gives out which ones on the study guide are going to be on the test!!!
I made an A. Easy class and she's a great teacher. She has a study session for the exam and will go over everything. Even slips in a few of the questions that will be on the final.
She is an awesome teacher and explains stuff very and and is very helpful if you are willing to appoarch her and ask for it. PLUS SHE IS HOT. Id take her out.
She is as good a professor as you can get...Very Easy... Very Helpfull... Very Funny
She truly loves her subject and really gets into it. All chapter outlines and study guides are provided for you online. Extremely approachable. I think it would be very difficult to NOT pass this class.
Best history teacher I have ever had. She is adorable and she actually seems normal unlike most NOVA professors! You'll love her!
She does a reallly good job of helping you understand and like the class. I hated history, but she made it fun. She's very helpful with study guides and makes sure you're prepared for the tests.
Mrs. Tucker is very nice. Her lectures are good, but be sure to take good notes. She uses power point and lectures. All her power points are online. She requires weekly reading once a week. With a response online. But DO THEM. They could be the deciding factor as to whether you pass. She loves her subject! And is enthused about it!
Nice teacher took her class a while ago grades very easy. Take her class if you're looking for an A. Also kinda hot.
Although she seems to enjoy her subject, her lectures seem to be boring. Since attendance isn't mandantory, you're not going to come to a lot of classes. I came to every other class and managed to get a B+ without trying.
Nice teacher and she grades fairly. Although she is sweet, it takes 6-7 weeks for her to grade an assignment or provide feedback, which can be annoying. Also, her quizzes are a bit random. If you take her, study info even if you don't think she would ask a question a particular subject. You never know!! Also, she asks very specific questions!
She seemed like a good professor but it took the hybrid version of the class, and the workload was so great, i dropped the class and switched to another professor the same night i attempted the homework. ( read 2 chapters and answer 20 guestions, study guid with an additional 10 questions, read 10 articles pertaing to the material, online forums...
I took this class online. The amount of work is overwhelming. There is TONS of reading, the 1st homework assigment was to read a 22 page article and the exams were all essay questions. I ended up dropping the course because it just wasn't possible for me. She however seemed like a nice women. Only take if you love to read and do tons of work.
Mrs. Tucker's class this semester was great. She's extremely helpful, very interesting and a sweet heart. This is the first time I've cared about anything history related. If you don't do the study guides, the test can be a challenege, but if you DO do them it makes it very easy & you learn a lot doing them.
Mrs. Tucker is a fine teacher. The homework is usually 1-3 questions (mostly opinion) based on a short reading assignment (20-30 pages max) every week. She's an easy grader, she's polite, hip, and very tactful. She never goes for a full period either, which is nice. Finals are given out as study sheets. (How much easier can it get?).
I love Mrs.Tucker! I took the hybrid version of this class, lots of work, but usually easy! Fill out the study guides, you'll need them for the test! Her voice is much different than your typical monotone professors voice, she's lots of fun! She has a lot of passion about her subject and a good amount of sarcasm to keep it funny & interesting!
Mrs. Tucker may be a good teacher, she seems to know her material, but her class is a mess. It's hybrid so she doesn't really mention the assignements that she posts online, and she doesn't respond to the e-mails. i had to drop it because i was doing so poorly. but if you had time to visit her business hours, and often cheak blackboard.. good luck.
Nicest professor I've ever had.Has a great sense of humor and is very animated and energetic. Not that it matters, but gorgeous! She is really helpful & will go out of her way to make sure you do well, you just have to ask. Very forgiving. I wish more history teachers presented material the way she does. Clearly knows it well, and enjoys it. 10/10!
Very nice, but boring class. It's all lecture and note taking. We did one group activity in one class. You usually don't need to read the textbook. TAKE NOTES ON THE STUDY GUIDES! There's a mid-term and a final and lots of extra credit. She tells you what will be on the exams (it's all from the study guides). She doesn't always grade things quickly
Awesome teacher, intelligent professor. Always seems to be in a good mood, and cheery with students. I would take any class with her.
She is very easy going and her class might be boring but she is very charming and helpful teacher I've ever seen. I recommand her if you want to get easy "A"
She is awesome..i took her for his 101 in summer session n got an A.. I'm not a history guy....i hate history with all my passion but she made so much fun
Didnt enjoy this class one bit. I took the hybrid class and this professor is is awful(nice lady) bad teach Idk how she recieved good reviews. she is a harsh grader & gives alot of work, VERY unorganized with hw. Some1 said she gives out alot of extra credit which isnt true we recieved on extra credit and it was worth a mere hw grade DONT TAKE HER
ez class.total hw over entire semester=read couple page article post paragraph reply on forums x4, 2 essays, study 2 tests.Best part about her tests she will give study guides and give u the answers while taking notes then take questions directly from study guide and put on test.did NOT read ANY pages in textbook and got 93%.
This hybrid class is a bunch of busy work that doesn't help you learn. Teaching history isn't her strong point, to busy with having to explain all of the internet and forum stuff.
i will take her again next semester, just understand the study guide hand outs and post good discussion board responses and u should have no problem. she doesn't expect u to be a scholar or memorize dates which is great. 2 test and plenty of time to prepare. I hate history and got a B. I strongly suggest her!
shes so hot. fun class.
Fabulous teacher. Alot of fun to listen to. She has a wonderful personality to go along with it!
Very kind. She uses powerpoints and study guides making it easier to study on tests.
I took her western civ and it was hybrid. Hardest class I have ever taken here at NOVA so far. She is a great teacher, but her work is ridiculously hard. I don't recommend her for hybrid at all.. but possibly for a regular class.
She is awesome! I took her hybrid class. She allowed us to work ahead, if we chose to. I never opened my book. Follow her powerpoints and you will ace this class as I did 103.5%
Professor Tucker rocks! Very informative, knows and loves history. She will always answer your questions, never makes you feel stupid. She is excited about teaching and it shows. Take her class, pay attention, show up, take notes and you will pass this class.
Fun class
Professor Alicia Tucker was very nice and great at communicating. Her course work was very easy, her quizzes slightly tedious, but her final is THE WORST. You have to right about 7 essays for the final. She does at least let you work ahead. I finished my course assignments within the first 3 weeks of school.
I really love her she is so passionate about history that it really shows in the way she teaches!
Great professor! The lectures that I took with her were almost 4 hours long, but it never felt like it! The material was presented in an organized manner and she answered all the questions people had. Take notes, quizzes come directly from her lectures. I didn't have to take the final, so can't say anything about it. Taking her again next semester!
This is the third course I have taken with Tucker and she is fantastic. All courses are straight up lecture with notes/materials provided for you online. Her study guides are a bit obtuse though, but the tests are cherry picked from them. If you actually want to LEARN history, take this professor.
Wonderful professor! Explains history in a very neat, easy to understand manner. Very understanding and fun to listen to. I have taken her twice and would have taken more if I needed more history classes. Love love love this professor!!!!!!!!
I took her US History in Film class and I loved her! She really seems to know what she is talking about and loves what she teaches. Her homework is EASY! Very little work. You WILL need the textbook, however. The films were pretty good, save for some technical issues we had. No last exam, just an easy project and all quizzes are easy. Recommended!
Absolutely love her! I took her hybrid class, she is super helpful and extremely sweet! I would love to have her again! She helps everyone in her class get an A!
Her hybrid course is very very hard. Too much unnecessary work. Concentrates too much on the internet stuff which is unnecessary. She is a very very hard grader and does not give you a chance to pass. Maybe her regular class is better but NOT hybrid. Worst class ever!
She is AMAZING. I loved her she cares about her students and is willing to help anyone who's willing to work. She does give a lot of work but if you do well she will exempt you from the finals. If you ever have questions or need help always email her b/c she WILL HELP. BEST HISTORY TEACHER AT NOVA! I wish she was teaching his 102 too.
History in Film class was super easy she is a nice teacher. Clear in her youtube discussions and questions. AMAZING CLASS AND AMAZING TEACHER! Will take her over and over again, inderstandable and answers all questions. Just Amazing!
She is a great teacher I loved her class. She gives study guides that are just like her exams. She makes learning history super fun. She cares about her students grades, so if you're not doing so good just let her know and she'll allow you to do some extra credit. Take her class!
I took this class online. The work is very organized however it is almost impossible to get a perfect score on anything she grades. She is one of the toughest graders I've had. It seems like it's never good enough for her even if you are answering all the questions well. There are two test that are very difficult as well. There is short answer.
Prof. Tucker really shows that she enjoys both history and film. Her curriculum and teaching style were outstanding, and she was lenient when I was late on more than one assignment. I chose this class (U.S. History in Film) as my elective because I consider myself a cinephile, and I was not disappointed! I learned a lot, and enjoyed it greatly.
Don't even think about taking this class. I took 2 days working on history terms and she graded it poorly. Very tough grader. Nothing will ever be a solid A for her. The online work is very unorganized.
She grades everything so ridiculously hard. It was stupid. The assignments are boring, course was boring (yes, my opinion on history) she just didn't try to make it fun or interesting. You will never get an A no matter how hard you work. I just felt as though it was wayy to much work for an elective class, especially being online it was ridiculous.
Though she would fail me for my conservative values. Glad she kept politics aside. I managed to pull an A out of this class, not sure how. She definitely makes you work for your grade. Lots of note taking, tests are difficult. i would recommend her if you honestly like history like myself.
Excellent Professor. I have taken 2 History classes with Professor Tucker and she has proven to be capable, enthusiastic and kind in both. She really enjoys History and it shows in her lesson presentation. I always received thorough, thoughtful feedback on my assignments and the workload is not very heavy.
I really enjoyed myself in her U.S. History in Film online course. I usually shy away from old films but the movies we were assigned to watch and write about were fantastic. Make sure you go into detail with your answers and connect scenes in the film with the actual history its trying to portray. The exams are really easy if you watch the movies.
This class was my most enjoyable so far. The objectives are clearly laid out and expectations are easy to meet. Follow the guidelines and you can expect to successfully complete this course. No tricks or guesswork. The storify blog was a bit tricky, but with some effort on my end, I was able to figure it out.
Tough grader, no matter how well you answer it will never be perfect for her which will effect your grade. She would grade a discussion board with 19.20/20 and her comments will just say "good job". It seems that her opinion is correct and if you have another view you will get marked down for it. I would not take a course with her again.
I really enjoyed this class. The material was interesting and Professor Tucker was an amazing teacher. She is reasonable - just email her and she will work with you. Her feedback is great, and she encourages you to share feedback with your peers. Discussion board assignments are interesting and engaging. Highly recommend.
My favorite professor this semester! the course was organized and easy to follow. She's an easy grader and her tests were mostly based on the quizzes with two short answers. Her only flaw is that she responds late to emails, other than that I would love to take her again.
I found the class disappointing in the level of analysis of the films presented, but it was easy and mostly enjoyable. Tests are made up of questions from quizzes and homework; you will get an A unless you are stupid or don't watch the films.
She walks you through the time periods in a very captivating way and uses video clips to keep us interested. one of the best lecturers I've had at Nova. That being said, she does randomly talk about her political views and feminism some days and it gets annoying. This is a class about historical facts, not your opinion.
Prof Tucker is amazing! I took her online HIS 127 class and she was super laid back. I had to turn in a few late assignments and she was super understanding. Not a lot of work & easy quizzes. Prepare for hard tests though.
I enjoyed her class. This is the 2nd class I took with her as my professor. This a chapter a week course. You will have quizzes for every chapter worth only like 5 points. She is flexible as long you give her a heads up. She will deducte for late assignment but not by a lot of points. Her class is definitely engaging.
I loved this class! Professor Tucker is super sweet and cares about her students. The class was super easy and we watched a lot of videos that were very helpful. There is group work with document analysis, but its not too bad. Textbook is free online!
I love this professor. She is clearly passionate about history and loves her job. She is very easy going and makes history fun. Her assignments are writing but it's not heavy. She gives great feedback and really sets you up for success. I recommend her lectures, I actually enjoyed history for once.
Interesting lectures, but all the assignments are odd/hard to understand (even quiz questions). Only 1 big paper, not based on anything learned. Loves projects. Changed final exam to final project based on primary documents a couple weeks before finals, which was disappointing because my good notes turned useless. Only upside is good lectures.
she's alright, kind of an easy course but takes some reading and studying, graded tough on the open note essay but otherwise pretty manageable
Start of course, you could tell she loves what she does. Therefore, she gives great feedback. Was able to send rough drafts to her before submitting work. Did have a change on final exam but let class know ahead of time and provided specific sources to use. Also had extra credit you could do. If you do the work, you'll be fine.
NOT GOOD. Lots of reading, which was expected. Don't plan on getting actual teaching, class is more like independent study just maneuver your way through hefty list of assignments/quizzes. Comments/grades on written assignments were NOT fair OR helpful. Didnt grade based on rubric/syllabus. I would NOT take her class again.
This class was just online (no zoom). But the professor emailed us every week and gave lectures on the major points we were going to read in the chapter. every you had to read a chapter then a quiz and write a 400-600 word essay to the questions and reply to 2 students. As long as you do your work you will be just fine
Awesome professor and not too hard on grading.
Professor Tucker's class was really excellent, her lectures were excellent. She explained topics very thoroughly. She also cleared your doubts till you got it. She and gives good feedback for your essays. This course was very heavy reading and writing based. Her quizzes were easy too. The class discussions we did were very enjoyable.
Her lectures are great. Only thing I was very disappointed as she is pushed her personal opinion from day 1 showing you CNN news articles. I don't care about her political opinion and belief, but she should not grade students' paper based on her opinion. She is not able to look at the big picture or understand different perspectives. Be aware!
I went into this class having a passion for American History and I came out not wanting to take another history class again! You can get A's in all your tests and quizzes but your grade depends on one 1 final paper due on the last day which she grades very harshly. If you are looking for an easy A class to meet your degree requirements. AVOID HER!!
You can see the love of Professor Tucker for History. Her lectures are great, but the process to write an essay is torture. She made writing an essay difficult and it would almost feel that she wanted her opinion, not mine conveyed in my paper. Do your work and you will be okay. Is not the easiest class and she is a tough grader.
Took an 8-week class and there was a lot of work (as to be expected) but it was all very easy. I have a very busy job but was able to work around it and finish everything on time with good grades. The tests were a short essay which I loved since I am a terrible test taker.
If youre a nerd for US History shes your choice. She really loves what she does and Id take her again. You must do your quizzes, read and write some notes. Youll also do a final paper which is worth a lot, but she makes it easier for you, shell help you alone the way with it, so please choose your topic carefully.
Prof Tucker is very chill. This class honestly did not take much time from me in the week. She got straight to the point in her lectures and made us watch a few clips online. There are usually short readings every week. Homework was very similar to tests. Gives multiple attempts to get 100 on hw. Just take notes during lec and do HW. TAKE HER!!!!
Professor Tucker is really funny & easy-going. She really loves history, so if u like it then take it. Overall class is pretty okay. Quizzes are easy, no tests except midterm, & the final is a somewhat tough essay that really just focuses on citations usage & good argument.
She’s a good teacher but all her homework and quizzes require a lot of reading and typing
Be ready to take 200 million quizzes. She is such a tough grader on writing. I have never gotten anything but stellar grades on my writing and I got a low grade on a writing assessment because HER instructions were not clear.
Feedback can be a little un-clear, but we didn't have a final exam, we wrote a paper instead and the midterm was easy because she gave a us study guide. Not a bad teacher.
She is an English Teacher than a history. And also, be ready For 20 quizzes.
Hyflex class was very easy to understand with her leading the way. She lectures the entire class so TAKE NOTES because on quiz's and midterms notes are allowed! Homework typically once a week and very easy if you follow instructions. Don't miss more than 2 classes and participate at least once so your participation grade doesn't drop. 10/10
I loved this class!! Professor Tucker is passionate about history and the assignments she gives are to make you care about history too. Lectures are amazing but make sure you take notes. I loved the assignments and the HyFlex format.
Her class was great, she made the lectures so listenable that I internalized everything that she talked about in her class. The only fix is that recording her classes for times I was sick would make it better.
Lectures are prerecorded for the online class, exams are open book but a little hard for the open question. Study guides are a group annotation which replaces the discussion boards. She wants more than just a definitions for the study guides, ex why was it important. Exams are split between a take home portion and proctored.
This class was extremely left leaning biased. There's no judgement in that, however history out of all subjects should be non bias. There was really no room for free thought and was consistently an underlying tone or narrative pushed in not only the assigned textbook, and finals source selection but even some of the documents that we annotated.
Professor Tucker is very kind and I thoroughly enjoyed her class this semester. However, I will say that she often adds her own political views when speaking on different subjects. If you aren't uncomfortable with that, I would definitely recommend her as a professor.
Professor Tucker is a good professor lecture wise. However, this is History not English. Why are we discussing thesis statements, and the whole course is group annotations. You open the module and immediately become overwhelmed by all of the instructions and attachments. I wish I could switch to a different class. Too late in the semester.
Assigned a bunch of annotations and gave a quiz about thesis statements (thought i was taking history not english?) Takes FOREVERRR to grade your assignments. Almost all of the assignments are annotations so if you dont like discussion post type things dont take her because thats ALL we do. But shes good
I don't think anyone in her class has received an 50/50 for the final paper. Her instructions are not clear on what she expects. Is this history or English? Annotations, thesis, and discussion board post mainly.. I believe she teaches 2 or 3 courses in one semester because grading takes a lifetime. Which can be very frustrating. Avoid at all cost
I had Professor Tucker for HIS122 online and it was extremely easy. All assignments were based off annotated study guides and annotated readings. There are video lectures you should take notes on, but they require a lot of writing given the amount of information. Lastly, EVERYTHING is open note, so take those notes they will really help!!!
This is an easy class but most of the assignments are annotations and there weren't enough assignments for learning history. She's very unclear on directions for the writing portions of the exams and hardly replied to emails, and when she does she is hardly ever answers the questions I actually had. An easy class but I didn't learn much.
The whole class time is lecture which is fine I suppose. Just about every assignment is annotations of documents. I don't know why we're doing annotations in a History class but we are so if that isn't your thing then probably take someone else. She's a fine professor though.
The midterm for her online summer class was two essays with a total word count of 1000-1200 words that had almost zero instructions/examples on how to write them with a ridiculously harsh grading criteria. If you are not a very good writer, then I recommend taking this course with a different professor
She was a good professor. You could go like weeks without having any work in this class, other than the chapter quizzes you can do anytime. You spend the entire semester on a poster I finished in like two hours. No exams. She would often run over time which bothered me because our class was already 3 hours, but nice lady, easy class
