Alina is very helpful and makes a sincere effort to help all the students. She is easy to reach throughout the day and responds quickly to any questions you may have. The homework assignments are not difficult to tackle. She posts solutions to problems on her website as well as Solutions to quizzes. She's cool!

Alina was a good professor. I earned the most extra credit in her Math 130 classes in Spring 2006. She was nice and organized. She would write comments on my work and for the tests, the handouts served me well to study from. I would take her again if I had to take more math. Plus, she has your point totals on her website!

Follow your study guide for quizzes and tests. few quizzes, 3 tests and 1final. You can even replace your lowest test grade with the final (if you do well of course).

To be short: Receiving an A in your high school Calc AB class (and a 5 on the subsequent test) does not guarantee you an A in this course. Her tests are relatively proof heavy, and she tries to give you the toughest of problems. That being said, she's a good teacher, will answer all your questions, and homework doesn't take THAT long. You decide.

She's not that bad, it's a hard class, but I've been taught by worse math teachers on campus. Quizzes are pretty easy points, and tests questions are similar to homework problems, just make sure to study more, and an A's obtainable. Pretty solid B.

I took her class while in high school to make up a D I got in Calculus AB. The next year I passed the BC AP exam with a 5, never even have taken the AB AP test. I think she's a fantastic teacher, but her tests are far too long and very much disrupt the grading curve. Most of the students who got A's in the class were those who had taken her before and knew what to expect. Math major can be comfortable taking her, but otherwise avoid her.

I had this professor maybe 2 summers ago, took math 51 in a 6 weeks course with her. I do admit I am good at mathematics, so I got an A in her class. Quizzes are like tests. I feel like there are so little time for tests. You need to really know the stuff to finish on time. But theres really no time to check your work. Too much homework, i dont like it. But she is a good teacher, she knows her stuff very well. Just dont be lazy and youll do well.

Alina Birca is a great educator, but she is very strict. She will kick you out of the classroom or embarrass you if she catches you on the phone. Although she can be temperamental at times, I am currently getting an A in the class. She assigns 3-4 quizzes & 2 tests, followed by a final. I enjoyed taking Professor Birca Spring Semester. Prior to her class, I had not taken a Math class in 10 years. She made me work for my grade, and I greatly appreciate her for that. She gives a lot of practice worksheets, extra assignments for you to practice because that is all it is, practice until you get it right. She is also very helpful and understanding. Attendance is mandatory and it is best to really put a lot of time and effort into this class. This class puts a big responsibility on your hands as Professor Birca does grade tests and homework specifically. Professor Birca does go over the material but in her own way where it starts becoming repetitive enough to remember by memory. She has a specific way to write the solutions to your problem but with enough practice you get closer to your answer by going through every step.

I really enjoy how she explains how to derive each math formula instead of throwing a bunch of random formulas in your face and forcing you to memorize it. I only got a B- , because I did not study for one test. It was my fault, not the professors. After studying for the previous exam I did fail (which was exam number 3) , I passed the final exam with 150/175. I was very confident that I did not get the previous exam questions wrong, as I had studied for them using the materials she had given me.

The video lectures were clear and explained the topic well to enable students to understand the subject matter in detail. The professor is vested in her students success and will work with you to help you make it even in the instance that you are faced with a hardship outside of class which was the case with me. It was a web class, she gave us hand-out which cover all the syllabus, the material is concise and accurate, together with the web video, it is easy to catch up. There are 4 tests, not difficult to pass.

I found her optional class extremely helpful as she goes over the topics and explains the theorems / steps really well. Alongside with this, if you bring any questions to the class, she can explain why the solution you tried wouldn't work and show you how you should go about it. Profesor Alina is very structured, organized, responsive and goes above and beyond to help students understand the material. However in order to succeed in her class you must pay close attention and complete all the homework and assignments which can be heavy at times, but at the same time it cements the knowledge learned.

Class relies mostly on sometimes very tedious online video lectures but are very informative & concise. Exams can be difficult but there are practice quizzes provided that allow you to earn up to 5% extra credit on exams which help A LOT. I ended up with just shy of a B, but she ended up rounding me up to a B because I had done all my work and extra credit she gave throughout the semester! As someone who has taken pre calculus before during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, this class was able to really help me understand the stuff I had already learned before, as I wasn't able to get as much feedback from the previous professor, nor was I able to easily communicate with them either. This was the best grade I've gotten for a math class. Professor Birca did an amazing job giving us different options for learning. She not only had her lectures but put extra videos we could watch if we needed more understanding. She also gave extra credit opportunities when needed the most. It was clear that she cares for her students.

This professor is a serious pro, it was a privilege to be a student in this class. There are many assignments and it's all to improve our understanding, however I would still say the same should be expected in every other precalculus class. If you're having trouble understanding concepts when the class starts I suggest taking trigonometry.

Prof Birca is the best math teacher I've ever had. She wants everyone to not just pass the course but understand it completely. The workload can be a bit heavy but it's all necessary in preparation of Calc 1. The flipped learning approach gave us lots of class time to solve problems, ask questions and work together. Great mathematician and educator

Loved this class and received an A. I enjoyed the class structure and Professor Birca was very clear on what she expected. Typical weeks consisted of 1-3 video lectures(which required video notes), 1-2 homework assignments, and 2+ discussion post. Grading was fair and she always made herself available if needed. Test require your workpapers.

Do the work and actually study. The rubric she shown to help he students can be tedious but it works.

This teacher does care about about her students. She has taken time to create videos to teach which can be reviewed. They greatly detailed and she will reteach or give more information if needed.

Professor Birca is AMAZING! This class is difficult, time consuming, and not an easy A by any means but you will DEFINITELY learn. She cares about your success and wants you to learn the material, not just blindly memorize it. I wish I had her as a math professor in the past. I owe my new love for mathematics to her! Take her!

Professor Birca was great! Her lessons were in depth and helped me learn a lot. She includes many examples and explanations in the lessons. She also responds very quickly to emails. She is clear in the syllabus on what she expects, so as long as you follow the rules and do lots of practice problems before exams, the class should run very smoothly.

Math has always posed challenges for me due to my learning disability, but this semester, Professor Alina made math more simple and making my learning experience more understandable. The amount of feedback and support to make sure you understand the math material was amazing. Overall, do not procrastinate this class and you will do great!

This class was honestly hard. I got an A in this class but barely. This class takes a lot of hard work and studying. The professor is a tough grader, though she is a fair. She just wants her students to understand what they are learning. She gives lots of feedback to help you. There isn't much hw, but we get optional work to help us study.

Professor Alina is super caring & HELPFUL! Her Canvas is well organized and she prepares us for exams with practice problems. I have taken calc before and this was the only class I really understood it. I also emailed her lots of questions and she always responds right away. Calculus is hard in general, but she helps a lot and WANTS you to succeed.

Before taking this class I was pretty scared of math and my ability to learn it but she really does give you all of the resources you could ask for and the support needed to work through it. Professor Birca is amazing at her job. There is a lot of lectures and assignments to do. However, as long as you stay on top of the work the class is very doable. All of the work is meant to help prepare you for quizzes and exams. I found she has many resources available such as office hours and Q&A discussion boards.

Professor Birca is the best math teacher I have met, she really cares about her students and wants them to be successful!!! Math 180 is difficult, but you will be saved only if you follow her guidelines and watch the lecture videos. Her canvas pages are awesome and thoughtful, and she provides students with very clear exam review materials.

I took Professor Birca in the Fall of 2024 and she was a great professor. If you put in the work and show up to class you should definitely pass no matter your math level.

The professor was always attentive in the class and helped students as much as possible. She was always open to questions and responded well and explained clearly. No surprises on the test and quizzes every week to test our knowledge and homework every weekend. I would take her again and plan on taking her for MAT 180.

Professor Alina gave me the impression that she wants us to learn snd succeed before anything else. She understands that college math has a lot of material and gave us a flipped class to help with that. I would take her class again because she answers our questions in great detail and makes sure we understand before she moves forward.

This class was amazing. At first, I was scared that I was going to fall behind and not understand my homework, but I was worried about nothing. The video notes were amazing. It was fun listening to them, and it was fun writing them down on my tablet. The class was not difficult at all, so I would rate it 10/10.

She is a great professor. You have to watch some lecture videos before class since class time is mainly spent solving problems from handouts or the book she provides online. She is very chill when it comes to assignments. Overall, you will be fine if you are willing to put in the work and be on top of your assignments. I would highly recommend it.

I liked taking this math class, and I am the worst when it comes to math. But, she was very helpful. She gives out a lot of material for you to be successful in the class. Going in, it's VERY helpful to have some understanding about geometry and algebra, it makes it easier to show the work. Pay attention to her instructions and you will be okay.

I had entered Prof. Birca's class without touching any Pre-Calc material in 4 years. I got a 50% on the first exam. Professor Birca could not have made it easier for me catch up and be able to learn what I needed to better my grade. She's very caring and passionate about learning calculus. Best math teacher I have ever had, highly recommend!

I took this class during winter and I was scared that it would be too much work for me to handle, but everything was manageable. The video lectures and feedback on my notes helped me a lot during this class. If there's something you don't understand then Professor Birca will help you find ways to learn about and understand it.

I took Professor Birca's class this winter and it was very clear about how to achieve a good grade. It does take some getting used to how things are ran but once you figure it out things just continue to roll as long as you stay on track and don't get behind on your video lecture notes you are setting yourself up to achieve a good grade.

Easy, just pay attention and take advantage of homework/practice. Lecture heavy so make sure you don't slack off or else you'll feel like you're drowning to catch up especially if you're taking the 6-week course. She's willing to work with you. I took this class while caring for my 2-month old baby now 3-months so it's definitely doable.

Taking this class dueing intersession was what made it challenging, otherwise its an easy and rewarding class. Her lectures and homework were moderately easy, but you have to stay on top of it. Professor Birca also gives great feedback and shes very attentive to detail. Shes extremely kind and understanding so dont hesitate to reach out to her.

Professor was very attentive, caring, and will be there for you if you need help, just make sure to speak up about things before the deadline! Lots of lectures & note taking, but it's all informative with clear examples. Overall the class was a lot of work, but she sets you up for success. If you put in the effort you're bound to get a good grade.

Material presented by video lectures (easy to follow and present content clearly). Taking notes is required & most have templates for you to fill in. There is weekly homework & quizzes, multiple attempts allowed. Passes given for turning in assignments/notes late. Tests are like homework/quizzes (only one attempt). Lots of work but you will learn.

Professor Birca's class is well-thought-out. She puts a lot of effort into Canvas with tons of support & practice questions online. Although taking Calc 1 was tough, she is very considerate & helpful for those who need help. She formats her class with lectures & notes done before class & goes over any questions & reviews over some practice problems

She is very kind and always willing to help. If you have questions, she patiently explains everything until you understand. The class is not hard at all —as long as you turn in your homework on time, it's easy to get a good grade. Exams are fair and not too difficult. Definitely recommend if you want a solid math teacher who cares about students.

She is an excellent professor. The class does have a lot of homework and requires you to put in a lot of hours of studying, which is expected of any math class, but she is great in lectures and very accessible.

Took Math 180 w/18A support class. Professor gives students access to every resource they could possibly need. Support includes review of trig, algebra, and other math topics. Its really up to how much work your willing to put in. Small quiz everyday but they're fair plus it encourages you to study material. Also easy to talk to and willing to help

I took the course linked w/ a support class. Prof. Birca does her best to support students. She gives clear explanations to concepts and expectations for exams. The class is not hard but if you don't participate (ask questions, do the hw, and practice) you won't succeed. Also, if you haven't taken trig, the support class has a very helpful module.

Great teacher who cares for her students and will come to help if you even look slightly confused. You can tell she is very passionate as she'll sometimes have the tendency to expand on problems and topics. Participate, don't miss class, and you'll do fine.

I took her for an online class for MATH160 in Fall 2025. As long as you follow all her instructions, you will be fine. There are 3-5 lecture notes + 1-2 homework assignments that you need to submit every week. The course has two big exams and one final exam, all of them are pretty easy. Extra credit to those who participate in the discussion forum.
