His class is hard, but if you give effort and show up to class everyday, you're not gonna fail. Very passionate about teaching and teaches well.
Best professor EVER! Clearly passionate about students' success in school AND in the job market. Has a cute sense of humor. VERY helpful and is always eager to help students. His class is hard, but any accounting class is hard. I find it easier than acct 321 bc of his teaching method. Very thorough and finds ways to help students understand.
Tough class but that's accounting. It's obvious he loves teaching and is very passionate about it. Great teacher if you want to learn. slackers beware, you must show effort.
Hard material that you really have to study, but Reza makes it seems easy. Still, you have to study. Very good professor, ready to help you anytime.
Class isn't very hard. You can get an older edition for the textbook.
Hardest working teacher EVER. Is very concerned about the students learning the material. Provides tons of time to help students outside of class. This course is very hard because it covers so much material but you couldn't find a better professor to teach it. I feel I learned a lot from this class.
Best Professor i have ever had, very helpful and caring!!!
he is the most educated man I have met with 3 masters degrees and 2 PhDs. He is very knowledgeable about the material he teaches. He listes to students carefully and answers questions until the students are satisfied. He is very careful to give each studetn a fair chance at learning in and outside of the classroom.
You have to know the powerpoints slides which are a summary of the chapter and MUST ABSOLUTELY KNOW THE sample questions. The format on the exam will be the same. It's a difficult class. I studied for hours. He is a good professor.
WORST PROFESSOR IN ACCOUNTING. EXAMS ARE VERY HARD HE MOSTLY ASKING FOR C.P.A. ADOPTED QUESTION. HARDLY 10-15% STUDENT PASSED IN HIS CLASS. WHATEVER HE TEACHES,IS NOT IN EXAMS.
He is the best prof. for this class. There are so much materials to cover in this section that some of the questions on the exams were not covered in class. He expects you to read the book, use your common sense, and pay attention/comprehend his lectures. His exams are difficult but he gives so much opportunity to redeem yourself (get an A).
Very smart and educated man. His lectures and examples are great. however he test does not reflect homework and class examples. You will learn alot but you will not be tested on it. He is a very nice man but not an effective instructor
He is a very nice person, polite and helpful. The class is hard, lots of material, he covers every detail, and expects you to know every detail. Exams are very hard. He likes to make the questions look more difficult than they really are (adds unnecessary information, turns stuff around). Gives to qualifying students 10% extra at the end.
Excellent teacher. Really truly cares about his students and does his best to work with them and their schedules. Material is difficult but he will make himself available to meet with you if you have any questions. He's hard working, very educated, and very respectable. Take his class if you are willing to work hard and want to learn something.
He reviews what you should have learned by reading the book on your own prior to class. He is very smart and educated. But he expects everyone to be on his level.
He is a great Prof. He takes the time to clearly explain the subject. However there is not enought time to cover everything in class so some of the exam questions were not covered in class. You have plenty of opportunity to get an A or B, but that also requires that you study a lot. He is very personable. I will be taking another class with him.
Stop blaming the material everyone, he is not a good teacher. Law classes have alot of material too but the tests were not impossible like his were. Hes a nice guy but an ineffective instructor. He gives "CPA" type exams and then curves, and adds 10% extra credit to the final grade. Bad teaching technique.
Even though I got a B in his class, I agree with you. It is not a hard class, he make the class really hard for the student I don?t like the way he teaches. He teaches students one thing but, on the exam he give you different question that he thought, and that makes the students surprise.
Prof. Reza expend too much time asking everyone the lecture and taking quizzes every class. The exams level are high and you MUST to study from the book, sample questions, solution manual and other books. He has to curved and give extra points in every exam because the difficulty. There is not other teacher, so try to study a lot and pray.
I agree with your comment.I don't like him at all his exams are really hard.
I agree too. If you compare with other classes in other majors, this one take the crown in difficulty. Everything is easy: quizzes, samples questions, exercises, but the exams are totally different. He creates the multiple choice questions and if you memorize procedures, you are death. You must understand, not only read, UNDERSTAND the material 100
I hate him and his class :( he is very hard prof his exam are really hard.
SPRING 2011: Great teacher, always available if you need extra help...3 tests, daily quizzes, and participation/attendence count!!..BUT tests are completely different from Ch. problems, quizzes, sample question..Extremeley challenging!! By far the hardest ACTG class I've ever taken!
extremely hard Exam, very cold instructor
Professor Reza is "THE MAN".He is the first instructor who will give you a high educational level in NEIU. His exams are difficult and challenging, but believe me, you will learn a LOT. You MUST spend time reading the book and solving problems. Advice: DON'T MEMORIZE PROCEDURES, if you do it, I guarantee you a "D". This class will open your mind.
Extremely hard. Don't take his class during summer. Hi is helpful but his power point slides, homework's, quizzes are nothing what you are going to see on the tests. This course takes a lot of effort
This class is no easy task. Most graduates say that this is THE toughest class to tackle in the BA program. SO study hard. He is fair and he is always their for you you. His exams are conceptual so don't expect to see questions right out of lecture or the book. He is extremely inspirational. He is one of the best professors in NEIU.
This class was by far the toughest i have ever taken. If you work hard you will do good in class, the final is impossible, so try to do good during the semester. He is extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. Overall i really enjoyed this class and i learned a lot, but it was a LOT of work. One of the best professors!!!
Best professor at Northeastern. Others are whining because the professors use questions from test bank. Reza has his own and changes them around. So, all the lazy people in the Accounting Department claim he isn't fair. He should teach other professors to actually do their job.
VERY HARD Professor! Avoid if you can. His exams are brutal, his powerpoint slides and practice exams are worthless. He makes up his own exams and expects you to be a Acct genius. He forgets its Intro to Managerial acct. Should the class be difficult yes. Impossible NO
Reza is an awesome professor, he is always there to help. Subject is not easy, keeping up with the class by taking good notes is necessary. Quiz everyday! Not impossible to pass with minimum effort for a good student. Keep up with the pace of the class.
Hated the fact that he always called on students out of nowhere. His daily quizzes were also a nuisance. The tests were extremely difficult. He is nice and clear, but his slides and what he teaches doesn't really correlate with the exams in the end. Don't recommend.
Great professor! He takes this very seriously and always offered help to those who needed it. However, you have to work for the top grade. He may not be the easiest teacher but if you put forth the effort, you should be able to ace this class. When he calls on you, he doesn't mean to embarrass you. He wants you to learn!
Quizzes (applying accounting methods) are everyday there isn't a test. Tests are multiple choice but are primarily accounting problems. Study the slides and the notes from class. Know how to solve problems frontward and backward. The final is cumulative and multiple choice. Showing your work is required for the final--no credit for guessing.
Great Professor
Professor Dorestani is very clear & very fair. Put in the effort to work the material out from the lectures and study problems & you will succeed at his exams. Read the section before class, participation is mandatory, & expect quizzes. Brush up on basic accounting principles, as showing your work can help you on both quizzes and exams.
Others have said it, but I'll say it again. GREAT PROFESSOR. You can't expect to pass this class if you don't put in the effort. Participate, study, and attend and you'll pass. He gives you all the tools needed to pass the class so take advantage of it. Learn the concepts, study continuously, and don't just memorize the practice problems!
Number one rule study continuously. He will make sure of that by giving a quiz every class. The exams are hard and you will not pass if you don't know you're concepts. Professor Dorestani is very smart and great at teaching the material. He is very fair and he is always in his office with his door open willing to answer any question one might have.
The material is hard yes. You need to study yes . He is clear on the material and will go over the questions students have in class. That's where the helpfulness ends. Very unbending when it comes to his structure of teaching. No originality. Quizzes are not repeat not at all like the tests.
Great teacher has lot of passion for the subject but his exam were extremely difficult. In class quizzes and sample question format are not like the exam. He teaches the course as if everyone wants to be a CPA. Wish NEIU offered another teacher for the course. Good luck!
I just want a degree not a CPA certification! As many student mentioned, quizes and HW samples are nothing like his test. You have to spend lot of time reviewing in order to pass. So be prepared to study bc there are quizes every time there class. Pay attention bc he calls on everyone in class. Particaption is a MUST. If you slack off or miss one class. You will fall behind. many ppl drop this course bc they werent ready to study and put in tons of time. So this is your warning. STUDY 247
Most difficult professor in the entire program. Unfortunately you have no choice, he seems to be the only guy teaching 322. His course was way too difficult and condensed for the summer so DO NOT TAKE THIS in the summer unless you will devote ALL your time to studying. I can only hope his course load will be more manageable during the 16 week sem.
Alireza is not a bad guy by any means, but you'll undoubtedly be frustrated with him during the course. What he teaches does NOT match what is on the test!! I did his practice quizzes and problems, practiced those and got perfect scores doing the problems, and did miserable on the test. You better devote A LOT of time studying, this course is HARD!
Hard class but great teacher.
Professor Dorestani is one of my favorite professors to date. Don't let the bad reviews scare you. If you can pay attention in class and do the practice work he gives you online, you can get an A. He breaks everything down as simply as possible; if you pay attention you will understand all lectures. The key is to PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.
What an overall amazing man. He's so kind and understanding. The quizzes are challenging but they force you to keep up with the work. He is always available to help and it always made me happy to see him around campus. He looks out for his students. Remember what he says, study continuously! This will benefit you the most in the long run.
Great professor. Not an easy class but what is not killing you it makes you stronger. . You have to come to every class, and not because he is asking you but because you will be lost otherwise. Study after ever class. Ask questions of you don't understand. Very inspirational and passionate about his profession. All my respects professor Dorestani
Professor Dorestani is truly an intellectual. I took him for a graduate level class and this was truly graduate work. Some grad classes are nothing more than undergrad courses with extra homework thrown in. This class gave me confidence in the graduate program at NEIU.
Professor Dorestani is an outstanding professor. I took him over the summer and I felt that I gained a lot of knowledge afterwards. He is extremely intelligent and breaks accounting down in a way in which it is easy to understand. He cares deeply about his student's success and if you study really hard you will do fine.
I do not recommend taking the class with this professor. He does not understand the learning process. He does not care about his students.
Reza is a whole-hearted instructor I have known. You have to work really hard and spend a lot of time for this class. Try to join his review sessions before every test to make sure you understand everything. He is willing to answer all your questions.
If you have no other classes, no family, no work, and not other activities besides this class - take it with him so you can spend 100% of your time studying for his quizzes, tests and visits at his office. This professor is a master of putting you on the spot and expecting from you to treat his class like the one thing that matters in life.
According to him, his class is the most important one and if you desire a good grade give up everything else and focus just on his subject. Discouraging, intimidating, and enjoying when people fail. I have always expect studying hard but this class is too much. Save yourself and take Jordan.
Most difficult, time consuming class ever!! A plus: I did learn a lot from this professor. Exams are ridiculous & WAY too difficult - much harder than the practice questions. If you have nothing but this class going on in your life, you may do ok. There's a quiz every class (if taken in the summer). Participation's a must. I'm an A student, got a C
Reza is a great and caring professor. This is a challenging course no matter who is teaching it. You are quizzed at the beginning (of almost) every class on the prior lecture, but it helps you stay on track. 3 exams (tough) but study material he gives you and ask questions. You will learn a lot from him. Gives 10% for participation, so go to class!
Screw this guy. His tests are difficult. Questions on them are not covered in class or the study guides. Daily quizzes. You have to be prepared for every class. No sense in taking him at all. Take anyone else.
He is a very good professor but a very hard professor. This class would be hard if Mickey Mouse is teaching it because of all the unrelated topics you have, as well as it is a gatekeeper class. If you're expecting a free lunch and easy stuff, go elsewhere. If you want to rigorously learn accounting (with a quiz every class), he's your guy.
Took the class in the summer. Great teacher, knows his stuff. Hes really nice and can talk to him. Had pop quizzes almost everyday that were based on the chapter completed the day before. Explains things real well. Tests are multiple choice. Get ready to study because youll work for the A/B.
This professor expects students to study themselves every single thing without hinting or suggesting what will be covered on the test. Wants students to study continuously and always be prepared. Don't anticipate the professor to teach you everything, just pick up the book and teach yourself.
Horrible professor! He sends you an email before the semester starts saying if you dont study then you should drop his class. There are quizzes at the beginning of every class. He doesnt tell you whats going to be on the exam. He expects you to study 24/7 outside of his class. Hes a very tough grader.
Take in mind that I am a A student. Not once have I taken a professor that made a class this hard. He gives you a quiz almost every class. I studied at least a few hours every day and still received a C. His tests are extremely hard!! I lost my scholarship because of his class. Steer away from him if you have to. His grading sucks....
WORST PROFESSOR EVER AT NEIU!!! I can not understand how anyone can pass his class!!! He is such an intimidating professor that makes you feel like you are not smart enough to major in ACTG. I switched my major to finance because he is the only one teaching 322. More money wasted, thanks to him.
Calls on you every time .Expects you to study all day long every freaking day and that might not even help. His exams are insanely hard. Terrible grader. Just because he has 2 PHD's he expects his students to be as smart as him. Avoid him at all cost.
He tries very hard to fail you and makes the class almost impossible to pass. Exams are ridiculously difficult. Good luck to anyone taking him
Quizzes everyday, his accent is rough and calls on you all the time and makes you feel dumb. One of the worst professors at the university
Gives pop quizzes almost every class, very hard to understand. Tests end up being very different from what you study.
PSA : IF ANYBODY HERE PASSED HIS CLASS, WE DON'T NEED TO KNOW HOW HE IS BECAUSE THERE ENOUGH RATING ABOUT THAT . JUST TELL US YOUR STUDY HABITS KNOWING THAT HE DON'T GIVE STUDY GUIDE, THE SAMPLE QUESTIONS AREN'T USEFUL AT ALL
He did an excellent job of explaining concepts from the book. This was a difficult class and I'd recommend you read the ch. before each class. I didn't find his sample questions helpful and I'd prioritize doing the problems that are in the book. If you still find yourself stuck on any chapter, go on YouTube and look up farhat; he's a godsend.
All I'm going to say is, if you want to pass his class, you will have to memorize everything on his PP, from unnecessary definitions to sample problems. If you want a professor who will actually explain and give you real life examples of how we are going to use everything we learn, then take Olear.
Yes hes a tough professor. My first exam was a 28%, I was not prepared. He has 2 PHDs and 3 masters, expect a professor who wants you to give your best. This is the best education you will receive at NEIU. He motivated me to do better. He pushed me above and beyond, I ended up getting a perfect score on one of his tests. Thanks Prof Dorestani.
He is hard!!!!! but dude was the only professor teaching this summer and fall semester. I recommend taking this class in the fall. summer is too short to retain three chapters in one exam. Final exam is also cumulative so thats already scary
This man is GOD AWFUL. Unless you have no job and no other classes, DO NOT TAKE HIM. Expects his students to spend every waking second studying his powerpoint slides and to know as much as he does. Gives out NO study guides, even though the final is comprehensive. Avoid him if you can help it. Save yourself the stress and frustration.
you can tell he knows his stuff but he doesn't know anything about how to teach a class. Unless you're ready to eat, breathe, and live accounting, avoid him. such a waste of money.
I remember looking at all the reviews for Dorestani before taking him and feeling very stressed out. Everyone claimed the class was unreasonably difficult and a waste of time to take with Dorestani. No one had any advice to do well. I took him and got an A. How? Study the PowerPoint, sample questions and extra examples. U don't need the book.
ACTG 322 online with him was pretty brutal! But ACTG 402 for the MBA program was a lot smoother. He's very nice and his exams are identical to the examples he goes over in class. 402 with him is a breeze, but 322 requires some serious effort as it's probably the hardest class in the ACTG major! Definitely cares about his students though!
The examples covered on his powerpoint slides are very easy to understand but problems on the exams are different from the PP and very conceptual. You probably wont have sufficient time to actually study because this professor crams as much material possible in a short time. This class was not worth the stress as someone with ADHD and anxiety..
Exams are extremely difficult. Instead of offering more work and projects to lessen the blow of these impossible to pass exams, he just causes you more stress and anxiety by saying it's your fault for failing. Don't take his class unless you are prepared to work really hard, jeopardize all of your other classes, and still most likely get an F
Reza Doristani teaches tough courses. He tries to make it as easy to understand as possible. Many people complain that he also tries to teach in relation to the CPA exam, however that is because he wants as many of his students to succeed in life. Each class begins with a quiz on what was taught in the prior class.
Be prepared
Be prepared to eat, sleep and breathe accounting if you take this professor. I attended every class and still got a bad
Professor Dorestani needs to have sample review questions that are similar with tests and quizzes like Prof. Green does. Students needs to have their own life to care of kids and old parents. Students should not have any frustration. I do not like Prof. Dorestani's teaching style or exam style
This is a very tough class. There is HW that is graded on effort and 3-4 exams. The proctored exams are 90% calculation based - you have no show your work (no multiple choice). Exams are based on his sample questions and extra examples. No extra credit. Very tough grader. You can get C or B of you try VERY hard. Forget about an A. Good lectures tho
Easily the worst professor I have ever had the exams are hard and you have lest then 3 minutes per question on an average and there is more short answer questions then multiple choice. The exams do not follow the slides or power points much at all aside from basics. Takes off points for messy hw but his answers are barely legible. Good luck
