Pretty good - knows his stuff well. Only minor qualm might be that he's Iranian, and so he has a bit of an accent thing going when he teaches that might be a little annoying. Aside from that however, I recommend him well; take advantage of his office hours! Tests are similar to hw problems.
I think he is an awesome professor..he knows his material..but the accent is kinda annoying at the begginning but later its hot...his test are kinda easy...and remember to do your homework...and he writes awesome note but the only thing thats annoying is the long definitions! He is cool.
Knows his stuff and how to break it down to students. Will do anything to help your grade and give you the highest possible, I had to retake this math, got a "D" with the first teacher and a "B+" with Rostamian, and I hate math.
I don't like math but he made it easier. Extremely nice professor and is always willing to help if you ask. He will go out of his way to make sure you understand the material and allows time for questions in class. Make sure you don't fall behind in class though and that you study the material well.
awesome teacher overall. I highly recommend him for any math course
I've had this teacher since highschool and he has always been very helpful with all his students and if he knows that you're actually trying to learn the material,he really does go out of his way to help you. Also his class notes are very helpful. I extremely recommend that you look him up for math courses. There is no math teacher like him.
this guy is a really good profesor and he really tries to help u understand
His notes were good but his accent threw me off. Didn't explain the material that well, but not the worst math professor you can have.

if you get this guy, you will be the luckiest person. he goes out of his way to make you understand things no matter how hard the material is. his test come from the homework. gives partial credit on your work. ive never had a better teacher
If u take this guy ull definitely pass. Do the homework and u wont even have to study for his exam cuz the homework problems and similar to his exam. He says he doesnt curve but he does. He's actually there to help u understand. Every understanding I took him for college algebra and trig and passed with A's.
easiest math class you'll ever take on campus. he's a great teacher, spending lots of time in class with tons of examples for each section. his test questions are similar to those in the homeworks. MAKE SURE YOU DO THE HOMEWORKS. he says he doesn't curve but he does. YOU MUST TAKE THIS GUY IF YOU PLAN ON PASSING THIS COURSE!!!
This man is a very good professor. I haven't seen him around campus and I hope this school didn't lose a professor of this kind
i took him in the summer for my fig class and he is amazing! i absolutely love him. his tests are questions from your homework, everything youve seen before. he really goes out of his way to help you. doesnt have favorites, but likes when you particapte. im taking him again for MGF 1106
this professor is really nice. he knows what he is talking about and breaks down the math for you. if your having trouble he is willing to help. but DO THE HOMEWORK if you do it, and understand it, you WILL pass. he is so cute and u end up growing a fondness for this man. he let us hand in corrections to all our test and he gave us extra credit.
He's a really great teacher make sure u do the homework. He's really helpful and gives a lot of extra credit. Ur lucky if u get him as a teacher!
This man is the best math teacher ever! Take his class and you will definitley get an A. Do his homework and you will pass. He's from Iraq but his accent is not that bad.its understandable but he may have to repeat himself at times. I SERIOUSLY LOVE THIS MAN LIKE FAMILY! Don't be stupid and like me and not sign up for his course. I took him in the
He is awsome ! As long as you do the homework and understand it you will pass the class. His test are not hard (as long as you did the HW)and he never puts anything that wasnt on the HW on a test ! I would def. take him again !!!
Ok...he is a good teacher, but he wasnt easy! I consider myself really good in math and have always gotten A's, i ended up witha C in the class. The class Average for the second test was a 16%!!!! And he didnt curve! If ur not gunna devote all ur time to this class then dont take it with him, there are much easier teachers out there.
Calculus is hard class no matter what professor u have. Rostamian does a great job of teaching tho. Doesnt mind falling behind to explain something and sometimes over explains. Tests are fair, just do the hw(isnt alot)and u will get a good grade. Gets irritated if ur late and u will never see him smile, very serious man but he tries hard. Take him.
hes not a bad teacher! do the homework and study for his tests though, if not i can guarantee u wont pass! he curves, a little but not much! honestly i recommend taking it with him just do the work and study and get it over with! btw hes the non calc version
He is a very good teacher! Just do the homework and take notes. I would take definitely take him again if I had to. I procrastinated a lot but i still managed to do all the homework 2 days or sometimes a day before the class and i got an A. :) I really reccomend him!
Got an F on the first test, and an A on the next two and passed the class with a B. HIGHLY recommend him for stats for business, he explains himself very well and is not annoyed by questions at all. The homework he assigns helps, and will work with you after class to check your work. Definitely a good teacher.
GREAT TEACHER!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, all you need to do is attend class and do the homework and you'll do fine, getting a flat A is hard since it requires a 95+ but hes a good enough professor to help you get one! great teacher
Come to class and take good notes. He is pretty fair when it comes to grading. He comes off pretty serious but just be attentive and ull be fine.
He's an awsome math teacher. I re-took this course after i dropped it with one teacher, and trust me, he explains the material in a way that you'll understand it. He throws in little jokes every now and then and his tests are short and somewhat simple. I totally recommend him.
Extremely helpful and clear. All test are based on hw.
Extremely difficult professor. His grading scale sucks A LOT. You've got to get a 95 to pull an A, which is impossible. He won't curve for at all. Most everyone drops or fails, in spite of the fact that he is pretty good at explaining things. As far as his temperament, he is serious to the point of seeming unapproachable. Avoid him if you can.
He is one of the best math teacher's I've ever had. He resembles Borat, and his accent matches his image. He comes off as serious, but if you go to each class you'll see that he often finds himself laughing or joking around. If you show up to class and make an honest effort to listen, you will do fine. Do that plus the hw and you'll get atleast a B
Okay. This guy was seriously not an easy teacher. he assumed everyone knew what they were doing and taught the class as if we had all taken it before and should know what to do. he took off points on test for stupidest things. i had to drop the class becuase no way was i going to pass.
There's hope for all of you that don't understand calculus...With other professors, I had dropped it twice and got a D the third time. This professor is very helpful and willing to answer any questions you have. Do the homework...His tests are exactly like the HW problems! Got an A in calculus thanks to him!
Great at explaining each problem, goes step by step. He likes to erase the board in straight lines! His exams are VERY challenging, about 10-15 problems. DOES NOT curve but will allow you to redo tests at the end of the semester for some credit, but by that time it was too late for most of us!Calculus is the devil so be ready to donate ALOT of time
very good at explaining the subject. this class is not bad and he really makes a great effort to help you learn. 4 tests, 100 pts each. Need a 95% to get an A. If you go to class, take good notes, do the hw, and study for the tests, u should at least get a B. take him if u need any of his classes. I totally recommend him. Great professor!
Hes awesome!!!he goes through everything, the test consist of problems hes either fone over on the board or was a homework assignment. 3 test and a final. he doesnt curve but at the end of the semester if you redo all 3test and turn it into him @the final he'll give you extra credit!!! i reccomnd him!!!
I dropped Calc the first time I took it with someone else, this guy has a great method to teach his students, makes an effort to make sure you understand material, lets you redo tests to get some extra credit, just make sure you do the homework he gives to do well in the class
I don't know what the last person is talking about. He is an excellent professor and a great one for math. He explains everything very well and exams come straight from the hw so if you do the hw and really try you should be fine. He's very nice and kinda funny and he's always willing to help. I took him in summer A and i passed.
Mr. Rostamian is a great professor. I have taken this class many times and never understood it as well as i did with this teacher. Dont get me wrong Calculus is a hard subject, it takes lots of time and dedication. Do all your HW because tests relate to the HW. He cares for his students to pass.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
great professor
This is a great teacher. Attendance is not mandatory, but if your not there you wont understand whats going on unless your good at math. There are 5 test 10questions each. Each chapter is pretty easy and moves on to another topic before it gets complicated. Very basic math skills are required. I pulled off a B and I Hate mate. GREAT PROFESSOR.
This professor is a good professor for finite math. Take advantage of this professor. He will help you during his office hours and in class. I got my money's worth by choosing a professor who can really teach this course.
Teacher is great! He talks like borat, but he explains everything well. To get a good grade- ATTEND CLASS- he explains everything!!Gives partial credit on test. HW not required-but he gets his test problems for the test from hw and lecture examples.
HE IS SO INTELLIGENT AND MAKES MATH FUN! I love this professor and will try my best to take him for the rest of my math classes. He cares for his students, and he can even be funny at times! TAKE HIM! He's amazing! Such a professional with great work ethic!
This is a good prof. Dont miss class cuz his notes are helpful for the tests. HW is not madatory but make sure you do them cuz questions on the test come from the HW problems. Once you do that it should be pretty easy. Do good on the first 2 tests cuz the other ones require more work and formulas to remember. U can easily mess up. But overall, easy
This class requires that you pay attention and study hard. If you do the homework, take notes and study in advance, you will have no problem. He takes care of you at the end of the semester with the final. A little hard to comprehend but is very knowledgeable and willing to help if you have questions. Great professor for Calculus for Business.
I took this class online so I don't know his actual teaching style. The videos used to teach are from a different FIU professor. He is an in-depth teacher and he makes the subject very easy to understand. You have to keep up with the homework though or you will not be prepared for the test (which are not hard)
Great professor with a good sense of humor. I took him for both of my math classes (college algebra & business for calculus). I took math with another professor and it was a horrible experience. He cares about his students learning & passing. If he sees you're putting forth the effort he'll make sure you pass.
I took this professor for calculus 1 and he was great. His accent is not bad at all because I understood everything he said. If there was any doubt all you have to do is raise your hand and ask him to repeat himself. The class is not easy and the material gets harder and more intense towards the end but if you go to class everyday, take notes, and
This professor is cool. You have 4 test and a final. If you do good on your final, he will drop you lowest test score. Also he offers extra credit at the end of the term if you redo all of your test. He explains everything thoroughly test questions come frm the online hw, just with new numbers. Got a B with minimal effort.
I took this class online because of the LOW pass rate for in-person finite classes at FIU. Just buy the cd, not the textbook. Complete all the hw's until you have a 100%. 3 exams, 1 comp final. He's a pretty nice guy but the material isn't friendly to non-mathheads. Just be persistent and pass the class! Practice exams ARE the exams; so DO THEM!
HE IS PROBABLY FIU'S BEST MATH TEACHER EVER. Do your homeworks REPEATEDLY and look at your notes and you will be fine on the tests. His first couple of tests are easy, then the other ones become quite difficult. Make sure you do good on the first exams and put a lot of effort into it, its a hard class. Lets you do corrections (extra credit).
Awesome Online class!! 3 exams and a final. If you get 70% or more on final will drop lowest exam grade and replace it with your final grade. Extra credit opportunities...also practice exam tests are the tests in class. Nice guy too :)
I had previously taken finite and got a D in the course. But I am very happy I decided to retake it with Rostamian's online finite class. The video lectures are actually done by Rosenthal and are extremely thorough and easy to follow. Keep up with Mathxl hw and retake until all are at 100%. Tests are based on the Mathxl practice tests so take them!
this man is funny, had him for social choice math, he said if we could take a math class with someone who speaks english it would be better, funny lol he gave me extra points when i gave birth on my work, cool cool cool
HONEST REVIEW. The professor is nice and funny, but he is NOT the best teacher you can find. Taking this class will probably hurt ur GPA as the professor just talks and writes and really gives no formulas; maybe 2 examples. Then do HW.. How can you tho?? Also makes a lot mistakes in class. HONEST
I'm a proficient user on RateMyProfessor but after reading the comments for this teacher I must say I have my doubts. Im not a fan of math to begin with & this prof. didnt help with that at all. I couldnt understand him and his grades are only based on 4 tests and a final. I shoulda dropped this class. His sense of humor is his only positive asset.
Even-though i could never pronounce his name, i must say he's one of the best math prof. at FIU. I took him online and he was so helpful. This was actually my second time taking this class so if you suck at math like i do, i would highly recommend taking him.
He's a very fair guy who provides lots of opportunities for you to fix and redo your hw online (took online class).Class tests are his Practice Tests,Final Test is difficult but if you get 65% or more on it,he will drop your lowest grade and double your final's grade.Make sure your HW grade is high because it will help dramatically with your grade!
He gives 3 tests 1 final . My advice is do the practice exams and hw on mathxl over and over . Lot of info to retain in a six week class recommend studying alot if you have not been in a math class for a while. As prof is typical , but he really tries to help out opens the hw doubles the final and drops test. He focuses alot on probability, alot.
Did NOT understand a word he was saying. took online class.his lectures were long and i couldnt understand a word he was saying.hes test are all written and since you cant understand him and he gives no review, its hard. i dropped the course.
He's awesome. Easy to understand but the tests are hard. If you don't understand something, go to his office and he will explain it perfectly. Take him, no doubt.
he is NOT a good teacher, boring lectures. but attendance not mandatory. online hws. his tests are hard. very hard. dont take his class. there are other easy math classes with better teachers u can take.
Awesome professor, lectures are great. He is really funny. 4 exams and one cumulative final. If you do the hw you will pass that class with a good grade. Definitely a must take.
Good professor to take online! His accent is a little hard to understand at first but you get used to it. As long as you keep up with the weekly hws you'll be fine
Professor Rostamian is a great teacher. He's quite funny and trust me, if you go to class, you will not have a problem with the tests because he is really clear with problem solving in his lectures. There are 4 tests & the final. The final is pretty hard, so make sure to study as much as possible. Do homework, it just may save you!
He is a good professor, he is very funny, just come to class and you will not have a problem. also, do your homework too.
Best teacher i have ever had! Goes over a ton of examples and if you come to every class its almost impossible to do bad. Keep up with the homework and if you participate he'll give you a few brownie points on tests.
He's helpful and explains well. Funny and sarcastic, but in a good way. We had 4 tests and a final, plus online homework, which counted as a test grade. Awarded a few extra points on the tests for participation. He realizes the stuff is difficult, so just go to class and you'll be fine. He grades tests generously. Highly recommended!
Great Professor. Don't let him scare you in the beginning,he's all about his students. Test questions come directly from online homework.
He's charming with a strong personality and cares about his students. Personality is so important for a teacher, if not I'd fall asleep especially in a math class. He teaches to his students and doesn't just lecture to an empty audience like many other profs I've had. If you're looking for a good professor, choose him!
At first I couldn't understand him. But once I got used to his accent, it was pretty smooth sailing. He goes step by step so no one is lost. Attend his class, just don't talk. Highly recommend him.
best math professor i ever had. i have never received higer than a C in math course i ever, but this professor really helps you understand and makes the work really simple. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Prof Rostamian is by far the best math professor at FIU. Took him for MAC2147 and MAC2311. Best notes, makes sure you understand everything. He's always there for help. Always do the homework, the exams are straight from it. Attendance isn't necessary but going guarantees that you'll understand all the concepts.
he's not easy, to understand, not an easy class, doesnt offer much help, and has hard tests
hes very helpful. any question ask him in class or in his office n he will even show u the easy way to answer it. must do the hw even though it isnt graded but exams are from it. i love this man. has a great sense of humor.
Professor Rostamian is by far one of the best math professors at FIU! I had him for trigonometry and calulus, and I learned a lot in his classes. Those classes are not easy but he will try his best to make sure that you understand how to approach each problem. If you have the opprotunity to take him, then please do yourself the favor by taking him!
AMAZING teacher. Very organized, goes section by section. Has online homework for every section, and if you do it you will get an A on the test, because the questions come directly from there. He explains incredibly good and is very helpful. If you do all the homeworks and study, an easy A
Took Online. Take if you are not strong in math. Very easy - most homework is due the day of test. Can complete in about 2-3 hours. It honestly doesn't matter if you buy the book because most of the equations are online, however the book explains the lesson clearer than MathXL. If taken online, prof. does not teach, he just proctors the tests.
This professor is amazing not only in his teaching but his helpfulness If he sees you in class everyday and putting effort into the class he will do everything to help you hes funny and a very understanding professor. he explains EVERYTHING step by step. at first i was lost but i got the hang of it If you want a good professor take him
Excellent professor. I do recommend it ! Go to class and do your online homework, you don't need much more to succeed. Going to class is not a mandatory, but it is recommended. Also, the book is not really needed.
One of the most helpful professors! He wants you to pass. Took his class last fall semester and thought I was gonna fail, but he helps you out with extra tutoring after class, and even makes deals with you if your struggling in the class! He makes learning math easy, as long as you pay attention.
This professor is by far the best professor at FIU. He wants you to pass and is willing to help you! he explains everything step by step. if you have a question he takes time to answer it. i recommend him!
This was by far the best math class i have taken at FIU. I took this class before and had to drop it or I would've failed. He wants you to pass, he gives extra credit on tests, drops the lowest one and replaces it with your final if you do good and grades the online hw. Take it online you wont regret it. I SUCK at math and i got an A.
Had him Freshman year. One the best and most consistent I ever had. His accent takes getting use to, but he knows his stuff. Bring your book, he loves that. Don't talk when he's talking, common sense. Exams are fairly easy, just have to show work.IF YOU PAY ATTENTION YOU WILL PASS
Don't use this professor. He is absolutely useless for this class. I thought he'd be great due to his ratings but not the case. When emailing him, he'd give me attitude and would not budge when it came to rescheduling an exam due to a medical emergency. Take this class with someone who actually wants you to pass.
At first I barely understood his accent, then I got used to it. Overall, he's funny and nice, but has a sarcastic personality. Attendance isn't mandatory but it does help, towards the end of the semester I slowly stopped coming and I wish I did because I would've gotten an 'A'.
Very funny and helpful professor. His tests arnt so hard as long as you do the homework he assigns and study a bit. has a small accent but u get used to it quite fast. he also helps with extra credit questions.
Prof. Rostamian is excellent! His style of teaching is great. He explains the material thoroughly as many times as the students need it. He is very invested in teaching and helping his students learn. He is always available, prompt in responding emails, gives extra credit questions on exams. Do your homework and attend class often. It helps a lot.
Being that the class is pre-cal and trig in one makes the class a lot of material to cover. But he is amazing at what he does. His tests are easy as long as you study. I didn't and made a mistake but he is a good teacher. Take him!!! Highly suggest it. Cares about his students.
Mr. Rostamian is an awesome professor. I suck at Math and I actually understood the topics and found them so easy. I do strongly suggest you stay on top of your work. You could easily get lazy and that will seriously hurt how you'll do on the test. If you do the hw and review it before taking the test, you'll ace the class.
Best math teacher!!!!! He explains everything so clearly! He gives extra points on the tests plus extra credit questions. All hw is online. Take notes, they are so clear. 3 tests plus a final. Take him! I've had horrible experiences with other profs for this class, but he is the absolute best.
Best math teacher!!!!! He explains everything so clearly! He gives extra points on the tests plus extra credit questions. All hw is online. Take notes, they are so clear. 3 tests plus a final. Take him!
Best math teacher! Take him! That's all I have to say, you won't regret it. He really cares for his students, you just have to show him you're trying.
His accent is thick but he is funny and he knows what he's talking about. He started being snippy whenever people came tardy but it was funny and he got over it. We don't have to show up to class, but it's better to go.We have online homework but it's not that much and it's not hard. We have four tests and he drops one, overall he is a good teacher
The best professor ever!!! I never liked math and thought I suck at it, but he made it so clear and easy, I actually was looking forward to go to his class, though presence is not mandatory. Strongly recommend him!!!
The best math professor!!! Strictly business and right to the point!!! Strongly recommend him if you want to learn math!!!
Wasn't the easiest of classes but it also wasn't the hardest. He does his best to explain the material although his accent can sometimes be difficult to understand. But overall not too shabby of a professor.
Really great teacher! Go to class, take notes, study, and you'll do well! He does really care about his students and wants you to pass. Tests are straight forward and there are never any surprises. 3 tests and a final. Highly recommend him and these classes if math isn't your strong point.
I took him for precaltrig and I enjoyed the class very much. This is the first professor that actually made me like math. I passed with a B+. However, calculus is different and the material is tougher. I could not keep up with the class and I feel like he was not as clear as he has previously been.
Very good professor! He really makes the math click and he knows his content well. Study and do the homework and you will get A's. Haven't taken the final yet, but I expect to perform well. Review sessions are offered and he gives 2 points extra credit every time you go so it really comes in handy when you are close to the next letter grade
this was my first time actually understanding a math class. i loved his sarcasm though out the course. He explained topic in detail and if you don't understand don't be afraid to ask questions he will be more than happy to answer them. overall go to class and the the review test which are identical to his in class test (4).
Super hard class, there is so much to go through is very overwhelming. Teacher is not bad at explaining but exams are totally different from homeworks and there is no extra credit at all! homework is only worth 15% and even though is an online class exams are on campus.
Easiest math class I have ever taken! All of his lectures make it really easy to understand the topic, he gives you both online homework (mandatory) which is really easy since you can keep retaking it until the due date and book work (optional) just to practice. Tests were pretty easy, show up to class and you'll understand everything!
You can most definitely pass his class, but you have to be consistent with his work. I took him online. There are four exams on campus and homework assignments that count towards 15% of your grade. It's not an easy A (unfortunately), but it is definitely a class you can pass.
Professor Alireza Rostamian is definitely worth taking. I finally passed calculus because of him. Gives extra credit and grades the homework. He is clear and helpful. He is so funny and nice! 3 exams and a final. I would take him again because he is the best professor at FIU!
He's alright. He is very good at explaining the material but he has a thick accent so it's a bit confusing to interpret all his words. But he is pretty funny, but he gets mad when the class fails the tests. Tests are hard, but you have to practice a million times and you may do well on them. Do your homework, it will help you. Very approachable.
Prof Rostamian is very understanding. He does have a strong accent but he is still understandable. He is very reasonable with extra credit and responds to emails and phone calls right away. Trigonometry isn't an easy class but he was very helpful and I passed with a C (and I feel like I'm good at math). I would take this Prof again if necessary.
EASIEST Class! He teaches the material fairly well and gives practice homework for every section you do in class. Most of his tests are from the online practice test that he post online. I have gotten over 100 on each test, including the 1 extra credit he adds. Even though I love math w/ a passion, I can assure you that he will make math simple.
BEST TEACHER EVER ! Very clear, even though he has an accent he takes his time to explain everything and gives many examples . I already took this class in high school and did not understand a thing but thanks to him it all makes sense now.
I do NOT recommend this professor at all! The subject was not too hard, but no calculator and no formula sheet. He assigned quizzes that were like 10 times harder than the actual exam, which is a waste of time in my book. He is also REALLY RUDE. I asked him a question in an exam and he blew up at me in front of the whole class for no reason! BEWARE
Rostamain cares about your grade, for example if you ask him a question on the test he'll help you along to get the most points possible. You will only pass if you do all the HWs, Quizzes, and Practice Tests. If you get around a 80% on the practice tests you should be ready for the real tests. He gives easier questions on the test.
I took this class online & it was honestly the best thing I ever did. He kinda gives a lot of homework & quizzes at first but its not hard! You get 3 attempts for your quizzes. Towards the end he starts giving less homework & quizzes. Oh & also the tests are exactly like the reviews just different numbers. SO DO THE PRACTICE TESTS & you'll get an A
Funny professor, extra credit on every quiz/exam. Has an attitude at times. No Wiley plus. There are 5 exams and 4 quizzes. His exams/quizzes are fair, and if everyone did bad on a specific question, he would drop the question to raise the class average. At the end of the semester, he allows you to redo your exams for extra credit. Cumulative final
Do not take him online. His accent is strong and confusing. He does reopen the homework and quizzes alot so you are able to go back and redo things which is a plus. If you're able to learn by doing the homework and reading the book then good.
the greatest math professor that has ever existed. Knows how to teach and very fair at grading. Passing his class is not hard, his C range is from 67, so it's easy to get a C. But if you want to pass with A you gotta work for it. Do all homework & you will do great, he does not put the hardest exercises on the exams. And please don't skip his class
He's not bad. He's actually really good at explaining the material but what gets you is the exams. He gives 4 quizzes and 4 exams but puts some of the most difficult questions from the homework onto the exam. Redo all the practice problems and you'll do well but watch out for his exams. They're a bit difficult.
Professor Rostamian is a great professor! He really wants you to do well and helps you when you need it. Yes, there's a lot of homework but the amount does decrease as the semester goes on. The tests are just like the practice tests which come from the homework, so do them and you should be fine for the test. He's good. Take him.
Transient student from FSU. Failed trig at FSU but got a 99 in this class. All I did was take notes on his lectures, outline every section from the online textbook, and take each practice test twice and write down the answers I got wrong. His practice test are harder questions than what he puts on the test. Offers so much extra credit. Take him
Professor does not respect students issues and medical conditions.
He's really really nice, but has a hard time speaking out loud. Mumbles a lot and english is not clear. You need to really put in a lot of work outside of class.
His accent makes it hard to understand his English and he mumbles a lot. If you do all the work he gives you you will pass with an A. The quizzes and practice tests are always harder than the actual tests he gives which is super helpful. He is an easy grader for the assignments he does grade. Always picks easiest version of test.
Amazing professor. He is really good at teaching the material and cares about the student. I had a great time in his class. He gives lots of exams but they are easy and cover little material each. Definitely recommend him!
He was the best math teacher I ever had, extremely good professor. You'd think Calculus is hard but the way he explains it is a godsend, he's also hilarious and a great person. Just do your homework and study before the exam and you will do well.
He's an old school professor actually brings the textbook to lecture from which I like. He is VERY strict. Use your phone and he will cause a scene, leave class to check your phone and the whole class knows. DO NOT come late to class he will acknowledge you and let the class know how you interrupted him but I actually learned w/o the distractions.
He is literally the best math teacher I've ever had. He doesn't assume you know the material so he explains everything super clear and makes sure everyone understands. He goes over past concepts you should have know prior to the course. Homework is due once or twice a week on MyMathLab and preclass assignments to turn in almost every class. Easy A.
STUDY AND WORK ON THE RECOMMENDED HW HE POST IN THE EMAIL OR IN CLASS, This will guarantee at a least B. Go to the tutor as well once a week at least. The final was hard as heck though.
This professor has zero respect for his students. I have truly never encountered a more rude, careless human being. You can manage an A in this class if you dedicate a lot of time and effort to it; however, I would still not recommend him to anyone. Being in his class is unpleasant as well as any/every encounter with him. I'd never take him again.
He is one of the best professors for your first math courses. He explains clearly and the homework is not overwhelming. Exams are very easy, do the homework, pay attention and participate in class and don't ever be late. You'll pass the course with an easy A and having learned all the objectives. Extremely caring and always willing to help.
Professor Rostamian is a good professor but has not found the groundwork to lead a class just yet. He is very unorganized and his pre modules and pre class assignments sometimes do not even correspond to the actual lessons. Do not take this class if you suck at math.
Overall this was not a hard course. Prof. Rostamian is not properly equipped to teach this class. He did not really give lectures, he just went over problems from a class worksheet. I would not take this class with him if you plan to pursue a degree that is mathematics heavy.
He explains all the concepts very well if you can get past his accent, which you do after the first week or so. He goes pretty fast in class but if you can keep up, you'll understand. He is really good about answering questions. Class was optional but if you came late too many times he would take point of the next test.
Rostamian is one of the best math teachers ever !! I naturally suck at math and he made calculus so simple and easy to understand ! He really cares that all students understand the concept ! hes sarcastic but its funny just dont take it seriously he always ends up laughing ! the practice problems he recommends are the best study guides for exams
Alireza Rostamian understands how students feel about mathematics and make sure to educate students on the importance of math. He is quirky and quite caring for his students and he always finds a way to ensure each of his students can succeed and pass in the class.
This Was the best math professor Ive had in my 3 years of college. I tried taking calculus in the fall and had to drop it so I decided to take it in summer A and it was the best decision I made. He gives lots of extra credit, the test are what he goes over in class so theyre not hard questions and he dosent expect you to know anything. RECOMMEND!
I loved him as a Calc 1 Professor, I would love to take him again hes super nice and he explains extremely well take him for calc 1 if you want to understand.
All these reviews made him seem really sweet but he was pretty grumpy this semester. He would snap quickly at kids who had questions during lectures but the class itself is manageable and I think he was just frustrated because he was new to remote learning. Some kids said he was really nice outside of lectures tho :/
Professor Rostamian has shown to care about his students. He explains everything thoroughly and encourages students to ask questions throughout the lectures. He does many problems from each section to make sure that you understand the concept. He assigns homework on mylab and gives a review before exams. Exams are very fair.
Just dont.
The worst math professor I have ever had. The professor does not teach well it is so hard to comprehend what he is saying through zoom (not accent wise just in general) and is always so condescending and rude to students seeking help. There is no grace in this class, so be on your P's and Q's and learn how to teach yourself if you want to pass!
I enjoyed this professor's class, he is a bit of an older guy so Zoom certainly was not the best way to take his class. other than that, I would take him in person because he goes over a lot of practice/example problems and is pretty clear with grading. I had 4 tests and a final exam. he's easy on hw and gives extra credit.
Definitely don't recommend. He didn't really teach, just gave us in class assignments to do. Very hard grader with little to no leniency. Your basically paying to teach yourself in this class.
Professor Rostamian teaches well enough and is willing to go over examples from the book and homework during class. But math is math and at the end of the day, the grade you get usually reflects the amount of practice you place into it. He's funny, so that's a plus. Studying and reviewing the notes are your best way to getting an A in his class.
this dude is pretty good compared to other math professors. he's willing to change up the criteria of tests and assignments if he sees the class is struggling. he's also willing to change due dates and give you time extensions when asked. pretty good at explaining the material too, the notes help a lot
Prof. Rostamian is a super generous professor. If you ask him a question during class he will not be satisfied until he is sure you understand! That being said you will NEED to put in the work. Write notes directly from the textbook. Do Hw and practice problems in MyLab. Quizzes and tests pull questions straight from the book and MyLab.
Took him over the summer online. Class material can be very time consuming. Learning the lesson, doing the hw and completing the quiz for one section could take me 8 hours. Also made us pay $22 out of pocket for every exam through proctor u. He did offer extra credit towards the end, but this class was intensive and you need to know the material.
The professor is horrible. He doesn't care about whether or not yo learn. He hands out work every week. When you ask him to explain something, he barely does. He gets frustrated if you get confused by something you should have learned years ago. He will not take the time to explain it. Do not take him.
I never thought this website would deceive me as much as it did . He does not teach AT ALL. Be prepared before class because dont expect him to get on the board and explain the chapter , as he already assumes you have read and understood everything. Only good thing is you can retake multiple exams , probably due to the fact alot of people failing.
Took him because I THOUGHT he was a great professor according to these reviews but in reality, he was awful he never taught anything so you were forced to learn on your own. If you were confused about anything don't even bother asking the TA's because they didn't know either. I would say I am pretty good at math and I still struggled in this class.
Do not take him if you have not taken a math class in a long time. He expects you to know the material already, gets frustrated when explaining can be highly sarcastic. Not a good professor; his ratings can be deceiving but he's not good.
The ratings for this professor are the most misleading ratings I have ever seen. He does not care about the students in the slightest and gets very annoyed/sarcastic if you try to ask a question about the content. I asked him a simple question during class and he responded by saying he didn't have time for that. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
Class based on MyLabMath. Total of 3 exams, 18 HW & quizzes, and final exam. Exams are on ProctorU. Calculators are NOT ALLOWED for exams. Exam & final exam is based on HW and quizzes. Final exam replaces lowest grade. Practice exam is extra credit. Professor extends HW and quizzes. Quizzes are unlimited attempts. I study HW instead of lectures.
I wouldn't say he was the worst but this class was definitely no walk in the park. I barely passed, literally. Be prepared to teach yourself, he doesn't teach and the LA's are NO help. This class has alot of weekly work so take heed. Get friends in the class!!!! He replaces your lowest test grade with the final so PLEASE try your best on the final
we had obligated attendance and he did not lecture the whole semester. The LA's did the teaching individually to the group tables which were again, obligated. Would not take again. You can barely hear him talk and he is very inconsiderate and sarcastic. Beware of this professor and most math professors at FIU.
Amazing professor. Heavy accent, but an easy A overall if you study on your own time. Gives reasonable amount of homework, but is an easy grader and super lenient in general. Perfect professor for an introduction to calculus.
I took him online, so I never really interacted with him. He gave us lots of homework; we had around 4-6 assignments, a quiz, a module, and a math gym every week. The tests were on proctoru, which I wouldn't say I liked because I feel they invade privacy. Aside from that, the class is not bad, but you have to teach yourself.
Took this professor for Calc 1 and it wasn't too bad. You'll have lots of homework and attending the lectures is crucial. He's willing to help/answer any questions. He can be a bit difficult to understand at times, but he's a cool guy that will crack jokes during class. He may not be the professor for everyone, but I enjoyed my time in his class!
This professor was not good at all. Almost zero lecturing, adopted this strange "flipped classroom" learning style of doing homework in class, and watching lectures on your own at home. I never felt well prepared for tests and quizzes. Very high workload with very little guidance. He is a nice person but his teaching style did not work for me.
Not sure where the bad reviews come from, but I had a great experience with professor Rostamian! The classes are tough , but he does his best to help. If you go in with the mindset of knowing it won't be a walk in the park, you'll be more than fine.
Do not late enroll into class not understanding and will expect you to have 2 weeks of catch up done withing 7 hours of a late enrollment. (Teaching yourself) As he is not a professor more like a tutor in background; canvas has made instructors lazy and unwilling to do their job. This is coming from another instructor for over 10 years.
Doesn't teach at all, expect to do a lot of my math lab and learn by yourself.
This professor does not teach a single thing in his online course, every single student is struggling and complaining. You are expected to learn everything on your own.
This class was no walk in the park, but with the right mindset and tools like Unstuck ai, I managed to pull through. The professor has a particular teaching style, but going to office hours and using the free textbook helped me grasp the material.
Rostamian does not know how to teach. He is very disorganized and expects you to learn the materials yourself. Rostamian doesn't give proper notes to help us understand the material and have us watch videos all day to learn the lesson. Why pay out of my tuition money for this class? Very lazy. He gets mad as well if you are confused on the lesson.
Alireza Rostamian may give a lot of work and doesn't necessarily gives notes, you would have to write them yourself, but other than that, he is a very caring and funny professor. If you need help, he is always available to help out students.
Such an amazing Professor! He genuinely cares for his students and wants to see them succeed. He gives extra points and you can ask questions! Very easy to talk to and I recommend! If you do the work and pay attention to lectures you'll pass.
Do NOT take this class if you are not good in math. You are expected to learn on your own then come to class where he quickly goes over a worksheet rather than actually teach. He is a cool teacher personality wise but as for TEACHING 1/5
Took this online so I had minimal interaction with the prof, but he responded to emails fairly quickly & was clear on grading criteria. Be prepared to learn with the videos integrated in the course & prep well for exams as they're worth a lot! Provided study guides were helpful & he offered extra credit at the end. Class itself is difficult
HORRIBLE DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
the way he explains things is kind of confusing, but he tries. the tests have the actual hardest problems and he doesn't make his own tests. tests are harder than quizzes. not much EC. if you put in a lot of effort and learn the material yourself you should be fine. reasonable amount of work and manageable.
Overall had a tough time in this class, very nice but hard to understand (mix of accent and not explaining well) You will essentially need to teach yourself the materiel. 3 exams 3 quizzes. Not a bad amount of hw just tedious, will open assignments back up if you missed though. Nice professor but was confused by the lectures
He doesn't teach, ANYTHING. Grade is based mostly on 4 tests which are worth 40%, and final worth 30%. They are Pearson based so if you do the work and practice a lot you'll be ok but if your not really good at math I don't recommend because he doesn't teach anything at all. Also all tests are live proctored.
Not super great at explaining topics but good enough to pass. Prepare to do lots of extra work outside of class because class examples and lectures are not enough to understand whats needed. Easy grading on his exams tho since he gives partial credit.
Don't listen to all the bad reviews, this class is all about effort. The reviews scared me off but he was a super nice and funny guy. He opens homework if you ask and changes your lowest exam grade (and sometimes quiz) if you do better on the final. Calculus is hard, but you just have to study and you'll do great. Best of luck!
