He is very helpful and energetic with a good sense of humor!
One of the best profs I've ever had he's really helpful, just try to attend his classes and take notes
I'll never take him again
Good prof, energetic and caring about students. He will repeat and thoroughly go through any concepts/topics you have trouble with
Funny, caring, energetic, and knows a lot about course. Definitely would take again.
He's a really good prof, his notes are amazing (though he doesn't post them) and he's a likable guy
best prof ever
Teaching is OK, however, he really does not prepare you for the exam at all Somehow had no idea what questions were on the exam Review lectures with him were off by miles Doesn't tell you what to study for Probably the best alternative for a prof not named Saied or Majed
He is a really good prof, gives a lot of examples in class, easy to understand. Also a really funny guy. Sometimes sarcastic but that makes him funny. Going to class is important, gives clues for midterms and final.
Writes way too fast for anyone to take notes. Doesn't explain content properly and expects you to take notes.
Classes are dull and the way he clicks the markers on the board to get your attention can get very annoying real quick. Doesn't post his notes and his lectures are very theory based and does not efficiently prepare you for the exams. Don't bother sending in remarkings as he will either not do anything or even lower the previous mark.
He is a funny guy and really cares about his students learning. His lecutres are really useful but he doesnt post the notes. I will definitely take him again.
funny guy who makes class entertaining. calls out disruptive students and makes jokes. but as a prof, he is very focused on the theoretical part of the course. examples are poor and you'll need to try some hw, especially for the first midterm. As the course gets easier, his teaching is more and more theory-based, so please do hw.
Idk why people who rated this person so bad. He is a great prof, yeah he aint a majed or something, but you can still understand the material really well in his classes because he teaches from the textbook, which is a good thing since most midterms and finals come from there. But one thing I will say, his review sessions aren't the best.
He is the calculus hero. hes dry all semester but at the end gives really good review problems. super helpful 1 on 1.
The course was alright as the difficulty was slightly reduced this year. However, his lectures are the same; boring and you can easily get off track coz of his monotonic voice. Office hours were accessible but it seems he doesn't show interest. Lastly NEVER send your paper for remarking. Chances are high, your marks will go down
Good prof great examples though he demands well and hard earned respect.
Although he sometimes roasts students (usually well deserved tbh) Alireza is a sick prof as his lectures are pretty helpful and interactive with the class.
Actually a lit professor, He's very knowledgeable and extremely funny. I love when he calls people, it keeps me engaged.
Honestly, if you go to his class, you will realize that this prof is actually pretty good, and he sometimes jokes around to catch the attention of students so all of us will not fall asleep. Though he never posts up lecture notes on D2L, his notes, however, are useful! I like how he keeps on making jokes on only giving us "6 minutes break"
His classes tend to be quite depressing as he just reads from the slides. However, in terms of teaching he is quite good and tries to keep up the students during his classes. On the other hand, his exams are hard and they tend to be very technical and demanding. He is not bad in terms of teaching but needs to have sympathy for his students.
Dr. Alireza is one of the best math professors ever. His notes are clear and easy to understand. If you focus and participate in class there is now way you won't understand. Great proff!!
No sympathy for students. you either get the solution the way he wants it or you don't get the mark for it
Professor Alireza has very clear notes and always available to help out students outside of office hours. He has a nice sense of humor. Only downside is he can be slow at times. Overall a great professor, show up to his class and you will be okay for the course.
Good humour, explanations are clear, I just loved going to his lectures and the tests were so easy if you paid attention.
He is the worst professor. Very unorganized and don't help students with the course. Too lazy. He marks the paper very hard. He doesn't know how to teach students. He didn't give assignments or lab quizzes to pass the overall course which solely depends only midterms and final exam.
One of the worst professors I've had at TMU. Extremely disorganized, he relayed nearly all the information about the course via 4 hour monotonous lectures from 6pm-10pm, and hardly ever posted any updates or information on D2L. Hardly ever responded to very simple and reasonable emails. Regularly changed questions on assignments with no warning.
Very fair. If you do all of the textbook problems you will do well. Follow his instructions exactly and you won't have a problem.
Alireza Essentially covers the course's textbook so you can get away with not coming to lectures if you'd like. Exams are super reasonable - the questions are all questions you would expect and to be honest, a little easier than most profs would have them for this course. He also allowed anyone around a >47% in the course to pass
The course was heavy. However, he curved the final grades allowing a lot of students to pass. To be honest, a lot of those who passed didn't deserve it.
he's just a horrible prof, all he does is copy and paste the stewarts textbooks in his lectures, he is short tempered, and doesn't care about us. The class average for the midterm was 30 percent, and he refused to curve until the final exam, causing lots of people to panic drop which made the average go higher. remark = lower or no change
He was very monotonous during classes and often picked on students who were trying to help each other understand the lesson. He overcomplicated simple highschool math and didn't explain where he got his "theorems" from. It's quite clear that he has no passion for teaching and he almost makes it seem like we are a nuisance to him.
He gives good ideas of concepts and provides enough examples for the class.
just copies the textbook.
He spends most of his lectures doing example problems which I find is the best method for me to learn. He answers questions clearly and keeps the lecture hall under good control.
He is a good prof and has neat notes. He posts all his notes on D2L. The only thing is that the midterm marking scheme made no sense and very little feedback was provided. Although the TAs marked it, they still followed his marking scheme. Do not ask for a remark for your midterm as your grade will most likely be reduced.
He reads directly off textbooks, and he is pretty strict on speaking in class. Would not recommend as I barely understood what he said. I attended Saeid Samiezadeh's classes since midterms and it was the best decision I've made. Nice guy but would not recommend.
He briefly covers the necessary theory but does a lot of examples. For most examples, he will go through every step he takes. His notes are neat and he ensures that the lecture hall remains silent, as in he will call out people who are talking.
While the popular option for math classes is usually Majed. Alireza quite underrated. His lectures mostly cover the textbook material, with plenty of examples. This is actually great, as exams are directly based off the textbook. His notes are also very organized. He's very good at keeping the class quiet and he is quite funny. Big fan of this guy.
good notes and post it at the end of the week online. Knows how to keep the class without distraction at the same time makes jokes with us makes lecture enjoyable.
Sayyidmousavi can appear to be a bit intimidating at first, but he's a great professor. Once you get past the monotone voice and super sharp hearing (don't even whisper- he'll hear and tell you to be quiet), he teaches well, answers questions well, puts his notes up, and jokes with us. He's a great professor and I would def take him again.
His notes are very heavy, with lots of writing and examples, but I liked how he ended classes early with his fast paced lectures. He kept the class entertained with some questionable jokes but it helped make each class feel like 20 minutes instead of 2 hours.
Best notes I've ever seen. Condenses and simplifies textbook material with great examples that represent test questions. His notes got me my pass. Sit in the front and ask questions he'll always answer and explain. WARNING!!! Never ask for remark unless you're SURE. He remarked Midterm 2 for a student in my class and dropped his mark 20%.
Dr. Alireza is a really good professor. The main thing that makes his classes passable is the loads of examples he does in class. If you do not attend his lectures, YOU WILL FAIL. If you simply have a relatively good grasp on all the ideas and can connect them with each other, and know how to do all the textbook and lecture note examples, easy A
He can teach, but he does have a bit of an attitude. He will call people out and straight up bully people in front of the whole class. His tests are also pretty difficult in comparsion to homework. If you unfortunately get stuck with him, try not to miss a class and participate a lot to get on his good side (or the best side of him you can get).
The GOAT
Teaches very well. Some of us may complain about his requiremnet of staying compeletly silence during lectures but since im sitting here to learn calc so it doesn't really matter. Attend his lecture and practise for exam, then you will be fine.
Had Alireza for MTH141 before. He's certainly more suited for a smaller class size, since he seems less comfortable with more people. Duah or Majed may be a better choice, but Alireza's notes are great for learning the material, and having examples. Going to his lectures is advisable since his notes are confusing if you don't. I love this man.
He took attendance in lectures and the midterm average in winter was 36%. Tbf it was pretty fair, I think it was a combination of stupid students & tough grading. Needed a 17% on the final to pass, and felt quite confident yet I just pass on the dot (he didnt release the final). Final grading scheme was probably hella crazy if I just passed lmao.
His teaching style just isn't it. His monotone voice makes you want to fall asleep. He's a decent prof nothing special. Occasionally he'll pop up a joke or two and make the class laugh but the main thing that makes his classes passable is the loads of examples he does in class. If you do not attend his lectures, you're cooked.
I mean he is an alright prof, it's just he writes so much examples for every lesson. You need to be fast with taking notes tho because he's gonna scroll down to make another example. He also explains less which is kind of hard to follow.
this professor doesn't really teach but gives many examples. it's hard for me to understand reading his notes
Only writes examples to help students understand. His lectures are boring and wants people to keep quiet.
Loads of example guarantees learning the subject.
Good professor. His lectures are good and he offers extra credit to those who participate. I'd try to be in Alireza's class for any MTH course he teaches.
This guy cant even solve his own questions or any question about the lessons that are out of the ones that he give us during lectures. A lot of errors while solving problems, even few problems in his own questions as I mentioned.
He doesn't teach well and gets pissed easily
Great prof, I wish i took him for linear algebra as well. Sometimes his explanations are a bit confusing, but he will clarify if you ask. In his lectures he gives so many different examples and types of questions that you will pretty much know how to solve anything because of the range of question he does as examples. In class just be respectful.
People are lying to you if they say he is a good prof. His teaching is okay-ish but he doesn't answer any questions or emails and if you ask for a remark, he will give you a lower mark. Calc is hard enough without this guy calling people out for chatting in his lectures (yeah he does that too). Crazy attitude and mean guy, get into another class.
The reason why i failed my calculus midterm, he did not explain the concepts properly and only wanted us to copy his "examples". Very high standard of expecting us to learn it ourselves without actually him explaining it to us.
He is a good prof. He tries his best to make the concepts clear to students. He gives plenty of examples to reinforce what is covered in class. Questions and Answers are posted online. Marks for tests are given back at a reasonable time-frame. He is understanding as long as you let him know your situation, and make sure to attend his classes.
He is very meticulous and knowledgeable. The subject is tough. But his detailed teaching style and many examples make it easy.
he explains simple concepts very confusing and I had to go to organic chemistry tutor for help...like cmon and with the help of 4 pages of notes are useless and messy..unbelievable
At first it felt like he went super fast but once you get used to it, you'll be fine He doesn't have slides all handwritten and it's very clear. Also if you have any questions ask him! it could be the dumbest question ever but he doesn't judge at all. He does judge you if you talk during his lectures though. I wish I had him for linear algebra too.
Best prof EVER!!!
Best AND worst prof. Prefect notes; if not in his notes you don't need to study it and his examples are clear. Some MT and Exam questions were examples in his notes number for number. Lectures clear and concise. Down side? VERY tough assessments. Demands you know things at expert level and never curves. NEVER ASK FOR REMARK; will always go down.
He is a good professor, he gives good lectures and provides lots of examples.
Really hard to understand. He cannot teach without his one note. Only thing he knows how to say is "Whaaaat" If you have him, good luck
Be cautious when getting enrolled into his class. Really fast. He will not stop to make sure everyone understands the topic
He is not a good professor.
his study halls do not even make sense, majed better frfr. he's a cursed man. unbelievable
Very caring and knowledgeable with so many useful examples and neat notes!
Really hard to understand. He cannot teach. Has one word in his vocabulary all he knows how to say is "WHAAAT".
Incredible professor, by far the best class I took this semester. Lecture notes are very easy to follow and study halls consist of in-depth review with possible exam questions explained. Alireza is approachable and treats his students with the utmost respect, one of the best professors I've had. 10/10 would recommend!
At first glance, he may look tough but he is as good as gold.
Dr Alireza was for real one of my fav profs. His lectures were clear, and whenever I had a question, he didn't make me feel bad or stupid about asking. He would answer in full detail and ensured I had a decent understanding of the topic. He cares about his students! Hope I can get him again next sem!
alireza is my LITERAL goat. like ya sure at the start of the semester i thought he was kinda boring and all but if you sit in the front, participate in lectures and ask questions, he'll know you so much better. if he knows you well, he can be a really friendly and funny person. his teaching material can be a bit better but overall i love the guy
At first, he may seem boring or mean, but trust me, he is so funny and explains the concepts pretty well. I liked his lectures. He did so many examples and answered everyone's questions. He doesn't like it when people talk during the lecture which is understandable. Overall, good prof :)
He does not like any kind of sound in his lectures. When it comes to explanations and exam help he knows what he doing. Despite him not being the course coordinator he gives a bunch of hints and examples to prepare you for the exams and is extremely kind. He is open to explaining a concept millions of times. And always available in office hours.
Great professor. He goes over many examples so you understand the material and is always open to answer questions no matter what. He also makes jokes to make the class laugh. Only reason why I can't give him 5 stars is the fact that sometimes he can go really fast and if you can't keep up it might be tough for you during the lecture.
The professor teaching style needs so much improvement. He goes through calculations and important steps too quickly without explaining them well, making it very hard to follow. When writing notes on a question or concept, he writes everything out in full without using shortcuts or abbreviations, which is very timeconsuming. I had to self study lot
He's mid tbh if possible definitely switch to a diff prof but if u can't he's not too bad. He wouldn't post notes for half the semester and his lectures are just so hard to sit thru. I used saeids notes to make it thru this course so that's my goat
Dr. Alireza Sayyidmousavi is a decent professor. In class, he goes over several examples to ensure that the ideas he teaches are clear. Along with that, he would often make jokes to lighten up the mood. At times, he would also give questions for extra credit. The only downside is he could be really fast with some examples.
The best professor of the first semester! He goes through all parts deeply with great examples and his notes are very useful. He makes jokes to change the mood. He also gives some questions for extra marks. The only point is he is really fast with some parts. He is also strict in class if he sees that you ignore him.
Really funny guy moves a bit fast but the course is just content-heavy. He does many examples and posts full notes so it's not a hard class to pass
Lectures moved fast so if you skipped a class you'd be really behind. The course was content heavy but his teaching style made it easy to grasp concepts. He's a funny guy and makes the lectures fun and engaging.
He is a hella mid prof does a lot of examples but does not teach very well if you know the material that he is teaching before you go to class he is good. However, if you think you're gonna learn something go look at the textbook or Duah or Samiezadeh's notes.
Alireza is underrated. He does many examples in class and although a lot of it might be straight from the textbook he does a good job at explaining it. He's a cutie pie and as long as you do some examples before your labs you'll be set. He also tells ridiculous stories that will crack you up. :)
SO underrated. He does hard examples in class but it really helps for labs and your overall understanding. He may seem standoffish but he's really nice and so funny during his lectures, he just doesn't like it when people talk over him which is incredibly valid. Such a cutie patootie in wolfs clothing
Don't Take
def not as bad as some reviews say. bad reviews probably come from people who don't pay attention and talk loud in class. If you're talking in class he'll ask you to be quiet, his hearing is crazy even if whispering. Lectures are example-heavy and many lecture examples he does are same or harder than would be on a test, so you are prepared well.
Alireza's lectures move quite fast, so it may be difficult to take handwritten notes in class. He usually posts his notes on D2L, but that really depends on whether he likes your class or not. If he does like your class, his lectures are enjoyable, and he cracks a few jokes every so often. Overall, I would recommend.
He's definitely not as bad as others make him out to be. Just make sure you don't talk in his lectures, cause that's an easy way to get him to dislike your class. Lectures move quickly, and his voice is pretty monotone, but if you can get past that, he's a pretty funny guy, and his lectures are pretty good.
It's hard to understand if you don't go over his notes. He gives a lot of examples in class, but some parts are still confusing. He also asks everyone to be quiet a lot during lectures.
Dr. Sayyid is one of the best professors I've had. His exams are tough but fair. He teaches well! Some complain about his strictness, but talking loudly in lectures is just disrespectful. Grow up—it's university. He kept his word—our exam was straight from the textbook. He even pulled out an email mid-lecture to get my name LOL.
Goes over a lot of theory but it's to make sure you understand the content well. Lectures always cover many practice questions and important parts of each unit. Better than many other professors.
Now I know most of his fanboys are going to be like but he's so funny. Yeah, its funny until he starts insulting you instead of someone else. Anyways, in terms of teaching, I personally didn't enjoy it and also if you are an accommodations student, good luck because he will screw over your grade. He is rude and doesn't help students with anything.
Decent prof. Test questions were easy as he did many examples from the textbook. Lectures themselves were boring but he tries making jokes from time to time. And pretty reasonable. Had him for Mth 410 actually.
He often threatens that he wont post his notes if too many people don't show up, as by the department he's not required to. As a person who attends class without taking notes and pays attention, this stung pretty bad for me. This made it difficult to perform on the final and midterm, as they are heavily based on the notes he makes.
People say he's "fair," which is somewhat true, not too hard but not too easy. He rarely ever gives part marks for your work, even if every single thing is correct but one number. Got zero on two questions on a four question midterm. The course was not as bad because Majed was also teaching it at the same time and he helped the students side.
Really knowledgeable. Not for the lazy students who just want to pass. His lectures were tough but he always put in some humor!
He's typically very stern and tells everyone to be quiet pretty often, but almost always answers questions even if he can be very condescending about it. If you come to all his lectures you'll realize he's quite funny and does a solid job at teaching. Make sure you show up though, he stopped posting lecture notes towards the end of the sem for me.
He's terrible at teaching, just throws info at you.
As long as you be a good kid in the class and follow all of his lectures and lab you gonna be fine. His test is really hard but fair. Funny man and a little bit underated. Totally worth multiple semesters with him
I've had Alireza for all of Calc 1, 2, and currently 3. Though people say his bad, he is honestly pretty good. He handwrites his lectures, and though his methods may be different to other profs, they make sense and explains well to understand.
Stopped posting lecture notes randomly in the second week of class apparently because of some students talking in his lecture, so he punished everyone. Freebie assignments for mark boost and midterm was more than fair with generous marking imo. Hope it'll be the same for this final I'm about to take lol
the lecture content is okay but just stopped posting them after a couple weeks, does alot of examples, but he explains everything in such a monotone voice that it bores you and makes it hard to pay attention
3rd time with Alireza. Honestly a chill guy, he's good at teaching application courses like 141 and 240, but for a more theory heavy course like 514, he glosses over basic concepts a little too quickly so it becomes hard to follow the rest. His midterm and final were very fair and reasonable. If you aren't a bub, he can be very nice and helpful.
The notes prepared for this course they were easy to understand and clear for the most part. Reading over them after class usually helped to clear up confusion. The problem was he stopped posting them due to a student causing problems so everyone had to go to the textbook. Not only that but he's a strict grader. Take someone else for this course.
Lectures heavy but midterm and final were pretty fair
