Hard, but fair
Good and fair, just do your homework and study for the test.
Professor Callahan did not hold my attention in this course. She made me feel uncomfortable and gave off an unapproachable and cold vibe.
This class was one of the hardest classes I have taken. Professor Callahan was helpful and I enjoyed her lectures. Do the homework and study and you should do well. I put in a lot of time doing HW, more than any other class I have taken. Hard but fair teacher.
I hate math. HATE. This class was hard. BUT she is by far, BY FAR the BEST teacher I have ever had at edison. Ever. If you do her work, study, she lets you use a cheat sheet on the final, you will pass because her schedule is great, she offers extra credit to deserving students, shes fair, and shes the most helpful teacher ever.
Very good professor, this class had a lot to offer. Be sure to attend the classes, try not to be late and do all the homework and you should do just fine! Powerpoints used in class are posted up online, there are plenty of opportunities for extra credit and she goes over any HW people have questions about. Definitely cares about students' success.
Prof. Callahan offers a lot of extra credit and help anytime a student needs it. However, I would strongly suggest taking another class if you don't want a huge homework load. Several hours a week is necessary. The word overkill understates the amount of work in this class. And don't even think about turning in an assignment late, not accepted!
This professor is by far one of the most helpful online instructors I have dealt with. She is quick to respond to any issues/questions and is very clear in her communication. She offers plenty of extra credit to her students and is fair in her grading. Would def recommend!!
Too much work. Grading rubric insane midterm and final 45 % of grade. Grades very critically. Would not recommend taking. Out of all courses taken this was the worst. Finance is great but do not take professor Callahan.
Prof Callahan is a great teacher. Attend her class, even if you are in the online section. She is great at explaining tough concepts. WARNING: this class had HOURS of homework each week.
Difficult class, but material is very helpful for not only business majors, but can also be used for anyone who wants to learn a little more about finances and investments. Professor was helpful with the use of video announcements and feedback. Would recommend to anyone willing to put the hard work that is needed to pass the class.
Definitely not the easiest course, but that is due mainly to the course itself and not to the professor. Professor Callahan was great at explaining difficult concepts, and actually made the course interesting, and you can tell she genuinely enjoys teaching it. The fact that she is hot doesn't hurt either.
Stay away from this Prof at all costs.
Online class was terrible. Teach yourself, while Prof berates and belittles students through video and e-mail. TOO MUCH homework! Some of it barely related to course such as Essays& Disc. Boards. Spends time harping on grammar and modes of communication. Buy the book, cause you're on your own. Prof not fully versed in use of Canvas.
the word that best describes this professor is OVERWHELMING!!! I don't recommend her at all. save money an stress, just buy the book and teach yourself. she thinks students don't have a life different of taking her course. leaves way too much homework. It is a very stressful and not enjoyable class.
GREAT Professor, has a lot of knowledge and passion with her classes. Holds students to high level of standard as expected with her upper level courses. She gives assistance when asked and is eager for her students to achieve. You will learn for her classes!
124 questions on her midterm. Don't take this class w/ Prof. Callahan if 1.) you're taking ANY other classes, 2.) work, or 3.) have children/family to take care of.... Wish I would have known....
She is not a teacher this is a control FREAK. Her welcoming comments create a persona completely opposite of her true self. If you ask for her help you will feel like you just got in a fight with a wall, after the first time you would rather slit your wrist than ask for her help again. Yes, its that bad. DO NOT TAKE CLASSES FROM THIS PROFESSOR.
Callahan was very clear and organized with her teaching but the work load was just ridiculous. She also calls on random people and puts you on the spot. A lot to remember and memorize. Wouldn't recommend taking her if you're taking other classes, have a job, etc.
Grammar seemed to be the most important aspect of her class. Sent out email belittling the class for not meeting her standards in grammar. This is a Finance class, not an English class. Not approachable. Do not recommend!!! Hours and hours of homework.
It's true what everyone says. She's not an easy Professor. If you take this class, be prepared to put in some good hours, implement the help of fellow classmates, and don't take more than 2-3 classes with hers. Hws, quizzes 2 tries, discussions, extra credit for a couple points(not all that easy). And 2 tests, Mid-term and Final worth 45% of grade.
Hands down the worse class I've taken at Edison. She belittles you for asking questions or being slightly off on your grammer. You will spend more time trying to get all the work she assigns done than actually learning anything. She should'nt be a college professor.
Prof. C is upbeat, warm and encouraging. I very much enjoyed the semester in her class. If you show up to class, do the work and study, you should do well. She offers plenty of extra credit and is fair in her grading. Students that don’t come to class or put in the work will struggle. The final will be long, but a cheat sheet is allowed.
Professor Callahan does not teach or instruct in any way. She is not constructive in any way, instead she belittles you. She should teach an English class, because that is all she seems to care about. She is the absolute worst professor I have ever had. She will spend her days nitpicking your grammar, not teaching you anything related to finance.
If you are looking to breeze through this class and life in general then don't waste her time, call your mommy and take a cooking class. Its a cold hard world out there and if you want to succeed in it, this is the class & professor for
She really shows how much she cares for her students. I am very challenge with math, but she took time to review the materials at all learning levels. She applies real world scenarios to help reinforce the math concepts and its importance in business practices. The assignments are heavy but fair. You must show up and participate if you want to pass
Great teacher, Extra credit opportunitys constantly, She loves when you participate and gives you extra credit for simple things such as asking questions. Best teacher I've had thus far at FSW
Very hard class. Lots of work, 4-6 assignments every week. she does give extra credit.
For an online math class it was actually not too bad. She gives you all the assignments ahead of time and it almost never changes. The book is needed for the class but I passed without actually buying it.
She is very helpful if you need it. She only posts the homework in class so attendance is a must! Book is not nessicary to pass. Her first impression of you will last all semester. Make sure you ask lots of questions!
Professor Callahan is a fantastic professor. She's very clear about expectations and requirements for the class, and is very fair. The notes that she provided as study materials were better than the information provided by the text book. She really goes the extra mile to help her students succeed.
Professor Callahan belittles you online, she is ridiculous where grammar is concerned; she should teach English. I would never recommend her to anyone. she makes you feel like you are dumb and can't comprehend. Horrible professor.
Gives lot of extra credit but she's also a hard grader when it comes down to the exams. Lots of homework and class work. Everything is online.
This was the hardest class I've ever taken. All she cares about is APA format and required tons of selfies doing the work which was such a hassle. I not only fell behind within the first week which she let the entire class know but I failed with the crazy amount of work she required. It was completely unrealistic and such a disappointment.
Great teacher! Do the work, participate, and you'll do well. Professor Callahan takes a lot of time to make sure you understand her. She responds quickly and is very helpful. Be cognoscente of APA format, she is a stickler.
Took online class. Great Professor. Very knowledgeable. Wants you to learn and is available through email and office hours; fast responses (even on weekends). Grades on a weekly basis. One module per week (chapter, homework + quiz). Pretty straightforward as long as you do the work. Four tests total. Lot of extra credit, ended the class with 100%+.
Doesn't deliver easy-to-comprehend lectures. Expectations are unreasonable. Gave tests that were not dependable & didn't seem to care! Grammar crazy, yet her online class needs to be edited. Unhelpful. Depends on pre-written & pre-recorded material that's poorly personalized & over-complicated. The syllabus doesn't get updated, it's only a "guide".
This professor forgets that she is teaching a Finance class - Not another Comp class. Cares way too much about APA format for comprehension question assignments and says this is the most important part of being successful. Midterm and final are 40% of the class grade. Would not recommend but stuck with this professor if you need this class.
This professor cares more about your writing skills than she does the content of your papers!!! You better know APA like the back of your hand or else your grade will drop so low, so fast. Sadly, she is the only finance professor at FSW so you have to take her regardless...
Great professor for FIN3400. The class is very challenging. A LOT of weekly homework, assignments, quizzes, questions, etc. However, she is very clear about grading criteria, and offers constant feedback on any assignment if requested. Two REQUIRED live webinars during the online semester. Lots of extra credit available. Overall, a solid pick
This professor is terrible. All she cares about is how you write instead of the actual class and that's finance. I thought this class would be fun to take and learn. She gives terrible feedback on your assignments and expects you to know exactly what she's talking about. You'd ask for better feedback and not help at all.
Extremely tough grader, and just overall not a good professor. If you get one thing wrong, she just gives you a 0 on the assignment and tells you to resubmit by another deadline. Very nit picky when it comes to writing. Make sure you are ready to be exact on your APA.
Probably the most difficult class I've taken. There is an extreme workload, even though it was a full term class (5 assignments a week). She cares more about APA than actual content of papers. The grade book is also very confusing.
Crazy about APA in writing assignments. Grammar needs to be on point in order to get a good grade. Too much homework through Connect. 5 assignments due a week.
Prof Callahan is a solid choice. She cares about your learning and will help you if you ask. She gives a lot of homework so def be prepared to put the time in. Does NOT accept late work, but she does give extra credit opportunities.
If you have the chance to take ANY other professor at FSW, take them instead!!!!!!! Callahan overcomplicates everything and treats everyone like children. So stressful for literally no reason. Unfortunately she is the only professor that teaches FIN3400, so if you're in the BAS program--good luck.
I am in my last semester of my Bachelor's in supervision and management here at FSW. Professor Callahan is the worst professor I've had yet. Her policies on proctorio are so strenuous that she hurts good and honest students more than she prevents cheating. Got a 100% on the final? doesn't matter because your room scan was slightly too fast.
Professor Alisa Callahan sends out emails constantly. She is the only teacher I ever had online that has always given me feedback. . She might be a tough teacher but she wants you to participate and learn. I have her next semester too. make sure u pass the final with 50% and you'll pass the class.
This class is ridiculous! The amount of work given doesn't matter because the test are weighed so heavily. No reviews, 5-6 assignments due a week, just to fail because the test are so hard and the proctoring is so INTENSE. By far my worse class ever, and I need this class to graduate and this is my last year. I will be taking this course again!
The most ridiculous class ever taken. The amount of work given is unnecessary 5-6 assignments a week. Says u should be spending 8-12 hrs on her class a week. Tests are proctored & requirements for them are extreme. Doesn't communicate with u effectively, copy & paste her original assignment posts into emails when asked a question as if u cant read
You are not allowed access to your test results, so therefore you cannot gauge where you need to study for the final exam which hinders "actual" learning to protect against "potential" cheating, which make no sense because you could screenshot or take a pictures of every question if you wanted to. By far the worst professor I have taken!!!!!!!!!
Lot's of work, skips chapters but they still need to be read otherwise you may not get the full learning experience. Tough class, good caring teacher.
2 words..STEER AWAY! The name Alisa Callahan will forever be burned in my brain. She is absolutely the worst! "Heavy homework" is an understatement. & expect any Zoom lectures to not review material but her spending time talking about herself. It takes a lot to get under my skin but boy she takes the cake. Don't bother trying to get a hold of her.
This is a VERY tough course. Be prepared for ALOT of homework. Be prepared that the exams weigh VERY HEAVILY on your grade so you need every little point you can get. Do all of the extra credit she offers take her feedback seriously. Grammar matters to her, you wont change that so use Grammarly. Make sure you watch the zoom meetings.
This is a difficult class with many assignments each week, but it is manageable. If you plan your time accordingly everything can be completed without feeling overwhelming. There are a few writing assignments and she grades intensely on grammar so use Grammarly for your assignments and you will do fine.
This is the only professor who teaches this subject, so I was forced to take them. I do NOT like the way this class is structured at all. There are way too much homework assignments and they are all extremely lengthy and difficult to do. Super strict when it comes to APA format- even on assignments where it doesnt belong. VERY VERY TOUGH GRADER.
I was given this professor for this class as there was no other options, and I highly do not recommend. This professor has good intentions but uses them for the wrong things. The proctorio proctoring is so strict and grading is heavy as any minor bad grade will set you back traumatically. A Karen in her truest form.
If you don't have time to read 20 emails on each assignment, with examples word for word of what she wants, don't bother taking the class. She tells you exactly what she wants and if you don't give it to her, your grade will show it. Micromanage to the extreme.
Professor Callahan was one of, if not, the worst professor I have ever encountered with. She says she tries hard to respond back to her students, but when you email her at 10 am or 2 pm, she won't respond until minutes before the assignment is due. Only values her time, not yours. She doesn't care what you're doing, as long as it fits her schedule.
I tried to have hope after reading the reviews here that maybe she's not too bad. NOPE. She grades HARD. and TONS of homework. If you repeat a mistake in APA format, she'll dock half points off, which has nothing to do with the actually class material. She is currently the only professor that teaches this class, so good luck! Do the xtra credit!!!!
Don't believe the reviews for this course. Yes the course is difficult and she grades hard but if you do the work then you will be fine. APA formatting is crucial to her so try to stay in her guidelines. If you do the work and put at least a little effort, you will pass with at least a C.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESOR! She jumps from Chapter 1-3 (which btw she doesn't let you use a calculator for) to Chapters 11, 16 and 17! She gives no time to ease into the difficult math, just throws you into complex problems. SO MUCH HOMEWORK! She proctors your first test and final. Must receive a 50% or higher to pass class, if not you fail.
By far one of the worst professors I've ever had at this school. She gives anywhere from 15-20 assignments a week all with the expectation of it taking 5-8 hours an assignment. She will email you 4-6 times a day about nothing. I 100% recommend not taking her and waiting for another professor to come up.
Here is the thing. Based on the reviews I was very worried about this class. However, she is very understanding when it comes to assignments. She is very knowledgeable about finance. There is a lot of work due every week, and the midterm and final 10
She grades Heavy. If the proctored video is not up to her standards she marks it 0, She gives tons of home work... and she is the only professor that teaches the course smh
This was the hardest class I have ever taken. The professor is very strict when it comes to proctorio (this was the hardest part for me). She will give you a zero if you aren't perfect. The only reason I passed this class was because of the extra credit. If you do all of the extra credit, you will pass.
She knows her stuff. Just be prepared to stress out like you've never stressed out before. There is too much material to cover, too much HW and if it's been a while since you've taken a math class, buckle up for the ride because you're going to hate the next 3 months of your life. Tests are tricky. Hard writing grader. This class is ridiculous.
Callahan is by far the worst teacher. The midterm and final are proctored and count for 40% of your grade. She has very strict rules about camera setup and has no problem failing you if the angle is slightly off. She is very strict on grammar, but only what she believes is right (which constantly changes), not what is proper grammar.
Get ready to take a proctored exam just to take the final exam. Why are the practice tests incorporated in the final grades? If you don't pass the practice mid-term or final you can't take the real exams. But why?? So I need to be stressed about a practice test and the real one? Stop it!! If you can take another professor, do it! This class is HARD
I wish this class was less intense. There is so much to read and digest that even the Prof skipped chapters! It's too much! If you're not mathematically inclined, you're going to struggle. I understand the need for a lot of HW for practice, but the proctored exams are unnecessary. You have to pass the practice midterm w/ a 70 to take the real test.
Taught from a Canadian textbook, PP slides have multiple eras, and when told does not fix, proctor rules are insane, practice test mandatory pass of 70% before taking final exam, does not answer questions directly but rather shifts to her own narrative to avoid answering questions, condescending when students ask to explain equations.
This course was the most stressful I've encountered in my entire program. The amount of information covered in such a short time is overwhelming. Completing all the extra credit is essential. In my group, 90% of students scored around 50% on the midterm. Callahan is the only professor teaching this class. This course felt like mental torture.
Worst teacher ever, if you can avoid her do it. She answers your questions with questions, she is unclear, she makes learning impossible. Highly unhelpful & cocky. I'm coming to believe that she enjoys watching her students suffer under the guise of saying she hopes for a “well-rounded” learning environment. Avoid at all costs.
This professor is a tough grader but sends out frequent announcements and provides detailed instructions for assignments. It's important to carefully read every announcement, feedback, and set of instructions. She does give a fair amount of extra credit, so as long as you study and follow the instructions exactly, you should be fine.
Very structured/ organized with clear instructions for each assignment. Callihan provides detailed feedback on ea. assignment and responds to emails within the same day. Extra credit is offered that help with understanding the material. Start by reading chapters and the work will become easy. Don't let other reviews scare you, SHE IS AWESOME!!!
I checked RMP after I signed up for her class and let me just say - I got really freaked out! I was intimidated by the Syllabus and the work due each week. However, she had her expectations clearly defined. Do the extra credit that is available - that will help! Give yourself time with this class. If you keep up on coursework, you will be fine.
By far my most unliked professor. She should retire. Her unnecessary requirements for taking exams are ridiculous. It's unfortunate that she is the only professor available to take FIN 3400. Doesn't matter if you're passing the course, if she feels like you breathed wrong the PRACTICE exam before the ACTUAL exam your grade tanks.
Strict but fair. That's how I'd best describe her. The class is difficult, but you are given plenty of resources to succeed, including note cards and tons of extra credit. Proctorio guidelines are a bit tough to chew, but she provides feedback to aid in such.
The weights for grading are tough. Tests hold a higher value than anything else. If you are not a good test taker you have been warned. She's really weird about camera angles for tests. I had run out and buy a tripod and webcam last minute and she still complained about it. Her messages and feedback are a mile long. avoid if possible.
If there is another class take it!
First off I would give this teacher a zero star if I could. The only good thing she allows is extra credit options. She is a very rude individual and not very kind. When you ask questions about the course, she gets upset with you and makes you feel stupid. She invalidates test scores and says that's her least favorite thing. I think she enjoys it.
Do not take this professor! I had to take her class because she's the only professor who teaches this course. She's rude and always threatening to give zeros. She grades really hard. She offers Zoom meetings to review, but they have nothing to do with the chapters. Horrible!!
This woman is the most over the top grader I've taken, I wouldn't be surprised if she has never given a 100% she does offer a ton of extra credit but it's not worth much and won't pull your grade up even a percentage, the reviews are like the exam but the final review is proctored. You will need an external camera almost behind you for exams
