this class was really interesting and professor nypaver is such a sweet heart! she will love you if you have knowledge of world music. And dont be afraid to ask for help or to go see her shes so nice and helpful :) definitely have to study for this class though, especially if you dont have a musical background.
She is the best professor I've ever had. She couldn't have been any nicer and helpful. She gave us printouts for every class so we didn't have to take any notes. She would also hand out study guides before every exam (all of which had extra credit). There are a ton of foreign terms to know, but she made everything easy to understand.
She was awesome! The class isn't the easiest, you definitely have to study, but she tells you what to focus on for the exams and gives extra credit. She tries to make music history interesting and knows a lot about not just music but what was going on in the world. Take this class, it was fun!
Awesome Prof!!! Super nice and sweet!! She is really helpful and tells you what you need to study!! Take her
I had a great semester with her, she really opened up my mind with music and made me appreciating it in a whole different perspective. Really nice lady too if you study you'll do really good. The tests seem kinda hard but she tells you how to study.
Great professor! Super clear, pp are GREAT (didnt even have to buy the txtbook). Easy A (loads of memorization though) & gives ALOT of easy extra credit on exams & outside of class activities. Very helpful & accessible, organized and GRADES FAST! Shes really really nice but doesn't appreciate lateness or cell use.
Good class if you're interested in some new types of music. Tests require CDs for listening sections which were fairly expensive but pay attention in class and go to test reviews and you should be fine. Took it as an elective in senior year and it was a great choice. Very detail-oriented stuff.
fun fun class, ms. nypaver i super excited about music! you learn a lot! shes really sweet and understanding if you talk to her about problems but doesn't let you blow off the class either do don't use you're phone or skip. best class at temple i've had so far
Great class, easy A, learned a lot.
So I thought that she would be really easy after reading the comments, but she definitely wants you to work for your grade. Don't get me wrong, anyone can get an A but you have to go to class and do the work. She tries to make the classes interesting and does lots of different stuff. She's really understanding and sweet if you have problems tho.
Professor Nypaver is awesome and extremely dedicated to her class! Assignments are not too difficult, just be sure to do them on time and you will be fine. Offers several opportunities to make up points you may have lost for whatever reason. Definitely take her!!!
Seriously the best professor I've had at Temple. She is very passionate about music and teaching and loves what she does. I heard that her world music class was harder than her exploring music class, but she's such an energetic person I'll bet she can make almost anything fun. I'm gonna miss her class, I actually wanted to go every day!
She's a bit silly but fun, which is great for a core class. I was impressed how fast she learned names, so you can't hide and she does make attendance but its still a good class!
Very interesting class, you learn different kinds of music and culture. She's a cool person and knows her material very well! Workload is okay her quizzes are on blackboard and is based on the videos she posts, and she does give out homework but assign by due dates. If you are a fan of multicultural music then this is a class for you!
Class was my favorite. She is always excited about music and had us do some fun things in class (although I didn't love the dancing). Make friends with her and she'll love you, as long as you're not on a computer or cell phone in class. Variety of projects and assignments, only one test
Very interactive, awesome listening guides so I could make sure I was really learning stuff instead of just sitting on a lecture. So outgoing and nice! You can tell she is super knowledgeable and passionate for the subject which makes it that much better to learn Id often go home and listen to the music on my own.
The paper for this class stressed me out, but she let us have a re-write and made helpful edits and suggestions. I had to work hard on that, but she graded based on improvement and effort as well as content so I got an A. She is funny to watch when she gets excited about music and dances around. Never had a boring lecture. Loved her!
Challenging, but I didn't mind the work because of her personality. I don't think she was ever in a bad mood, she always was 100% in class. Used PowerPoints, and also had us do group worksheets and ask questions so it wasn't just lecture. A friend recommended the course to me, and I'm glad I took it, Prof. Nypaver was good!
She is an awesome person who loves what she does. However if your'e taking hard courses, i recommend you to stay out of this class because of the workload give in exploring music. For a gen ed, there were lots and lots of work! I barely passed her final exam because of my other classes. Good Luck
She's nice and pretty cool about giving extensions for papers if you need them. Took her because a friend had her last year. Lectures are usually pretty interesting but she only gave one test, the final. I'd have liked more exams and less assignments, but that's my preference.
So sweet! Classes are either boring or interesting, but it depends on you. She, herself, makes the course as interesting as it can be. She's kinda hot too, which helps for paying attention. Don't buy the book, just get the econ lab
I really really enjoyed this class! Professor was so energetic and bubbly. I learned a ton from this class and I'm really grateful I had room to take it! Wish I had more room for free electives to take another class with her.
She talks a lot, and kind of fast. But she never lost my attention. She is amazing at lecturing, and she always keeps it fun and exciting. She's knowledgeable because she got her Master's in Music History. She's sexy and she's is awesome. The class is pretty easy, but you have show up to class and participate. If you don't talk you must blog.
She tries very hard to make this class interesting. She talks a lot and is very passionate about music. She kind of gives a lot of assignment but there are short and easy. She also gives extra credit options (in the final up to 40!!!), which can push your grade. I would take her again, because she is very nice and cares about her students.
took her for a history gen ed, super easy, material is a little boring, but she's pretty hot and really upbeat
Amazing professor; bubbly, passionate, and very cute. She tries hard to make the material interesting so that students actually enjoy learning. She gives a decent amount of assignments, but they're all easy and short. Lots of variety in the ways you're graded, but fair. Quizzes are super easy. Huge amounts of extra credit, it's impossible to fail.
Really laid back and funny. The class was an easy A, and honestly a lot of fun!
A nice person, passionate about the subject. Attendance counts; she strives to know you by name almost immediately. Too many Gen Eds include a group project as this one does. Overall class is easy but consumes a lot of time which I really need for my specialization courses. Not a bad Gen Ed choice otherwise. She is very cute and funny.
Awesome experience in this class. Needed a two credit class to fulfill my credit requirement for graduation and I'm really happy I picked this one. I would say that it's an easy A if you do homework, study a good bit, enjoy music and attend every class & listen to feedback. Alisha has a great personality and knows how to brighten up a room
Easiest A i've ever taken. Almost every student gets an A. You just have to do the homework. She allows note cards on the test making it easy. Going to concertsdoing 10 (easy) homework assignments are the only negatives.
I'm signed up for my second class with Prof. Nypaver and I'm already looking forward to it. She has crazy energy and you can tell she really loves music! Last time I had her for World Music and she gave a lot of little assignments, but they were mostly interesting and some were even fun, nothing too hard. I learned a lot, favorite prof. at Temple
I LOVEDDDDD her! She was by far my favorite teacher I've had. I would definitely take a class with her again. She is young so she connects with the students and really cares about you. I had no interest in classical music but she made me love the class and learning about it. HIGHLY recommend! Made class enjoyable.
I love her! She is young, energetic and willing to explain anything to you. She loves music and hopes that you love music too. I first came to the class with a moderate spirit, but she, in the end, makes me love classical music. There will be some writing assignments, but they will be graded easily. The midterm and the final won't be difficult too.
Nypaver was probably the most enthusiastic professor I've ever had! She is warm, energetic, + relates to the students well. Her lectures were super interesting with lots of fun video/music clips. In Exploring Music you have a few easy essays, midterm, and final. If you like music, or even if you aren't too knowledgeable, I could not recommend more.
Take her if you get the chance because she is literally amazing! Very energetic and easy to talk to. 1000% my favorite teacher i've ever had. Class discussions and power points are fun and clear, and she also posts everything taught in class online so you will never be behind! love love love ms. nypaver
She's an amazing professor! Music theory is pretty tough, but she does a really great job of explaining it and making it interesting.
If you need an easy A, take her Exploring Music course. So many extra credit opportunities. Tests are only easy if you actually studied a bit beforehand. She replies to emails very fast. Homework is only 15 minutes and it's once every 2 weeks.
She loves when you participate, takes attendance daily, and for all the tests she let us use a note card cheat sheet. would definitely recommend, easy A. don't buy the textbook.
Haha I don't think I'll ever forget her lecture on Romeo and Juliet!! She can be really goofy but she totally knows her stuff and tries to get us to like it too. Def. take her, but don't miss too many classes, she'll dock your final grade.
Shes awesome! Very cute and funny. She is very passionate about the material so she gets upset easily when students dont pay attention (use phones). She is clear of her exceptions and gets back to emails quickly! When shes in a bad mood, youll know lol Overall, shes a great professor and I would definitely recommend taking her. Easy A!
She brightens the class always! Fast email responses. No HW due, but tiny readings (a question or so used for exams). Attend a free concert at TU & write an essay. Short presentation on a music term. Midterm & final exams, you get a study guide plus a flashcard which super help! Final proj a lil tedious but not hard. Easy A & I actually learned!
I love her! ProfNypaver is supportive, caring and simply put, a sweetheart. She knows most students only took the class bc of GenEd requirement so she didn't really demand much but what is amazing about her is that she inspired people to love music just like how she does. She's extremely nice & if you attend every class and listen, you'll get an A.
Fun, if not inspirational, professor. She makes learning about music really fun and interactive! Not a tough class at all, and very enjoyable if you're into music and/or learning about other cultures. The work can be time-consuming, but it's barely noticeable if you like music. Great professor and person. Take any of her classes!
I have to admit she is really nice, friendly and try her best to make the class fun and interactive. However, the world traditional music stuff she teaches may be boring to some people like me. She takes attendance and there are many inclass activities so missing the class greatly affect the score. The homework take quite a lot of time.
Amazing. Best professor I have ever had. I learned a ton and thought her class was super fun! She's always so positive and energetic, and most of the assignments were in-class, which I liked because there wasn't a lot of homework. She's really nice too, and if you're honest with her shes very understanding. Highly recommend!
Loved her. She is clearly passionate about the subject and makes it easy for anyone who does the work to get good grades. She is knowledgeable about world music and loves teaching.
I had her for World Music. She is very bubbly and sweet! She lets you skip class four times without any penalty - which is a good thing. Her quizzes are all online and Easy A's. There are no given homeworks, there are some outlines where you have to construct a "reaction" paper.

I was dreading taking Shakespeare and Music but it was the only class that fit my schedule. However, it ended up being the best class I've ever taken at Temple!! Prof. Nypaver made the class really fun and interactive. An easy A with several extra credit options, and I actually learned a lot! Don't let Shakespeare scare you, she makes it fun.
she's the nicest and most caring professor ever. she's super fair. the class is online quizzes a few projects and attendance. everything is really easy if you fill in the notes she gives you before class and show up. She really knows all her information exceptionally well. You learn a lot and you'll have fun Show up to class.
Amazing class! Nypaver is so upbeat and adorable. She cares so much about her students and is very flexible with missed classes and missed work. She has very fun classes. Most of the time, guest performers come in. Highly recommend.
Best professor ever. She is sweet and caring and is super passionate about what she is teaching about. If you put in little effort you will receive a grade reflecting that. Super easy and fun class. You do not need any music background to take
I took a hybrid course. We met once a week and the rest was online. Very easy and the professor is so sweet. She very obviously loves what she does.
Professor Nypaver was a sweet and enthusiastic professor. You could tell she genuinely loved the subject and wanted to present the information in a way so that her students would love it as well. This was overall a great class, I would highly recommend it.
Alisha is an amazing professor who is always full of energy and enthusiasm. She knows this is a gen-ed and as such never gives much work outside of class, she just wants you to learn as much as possible. If you do all the assignments you're guaranteed an A. Group projects can be a pain to coordinate sometimes but in the end they aren't a big deal.
One of the kindest and best teachers I have ever had in Temple! Shes very organized and cares a lot about her students! I highly recommend her!
She's a chill professor, but you have to actually study. As a non-music major, I had to put in a bit of effort to learn the terms and do the HW.
I've taken a few online classes, but Nypaver'sonline Exploring Music class was the most organized one I have ever taken. She was really nice and engaged in the class. The listening journals and the final project (no final exam) were actually fun! She's very open to feedback to make the course better, don't be afraid to ask for help and be honest.
Professor Nypaver is the gem of Temple University. She is the sweetest, most kind professor you will EVER have. Her world musics class was incredibly interesting, with guest lectures and interactive classes that really immersed you in the course. Cannot recommend her world musics class enough - she is the best professor I have ever had.
Challenging but fair professor. Loved the guest performers!
Take her Shakespeare class. It was the best class I've taken at Temple. She's hilarious and always in a great mood and makes class interesting and fun!
She was one of my favorite teachers ever. Her positivity is amazing and made me want to come to class and learn.
Nypaver is lovely! She knows so much about different cultures and brings lots of energy to her class. She brought guests and practice sessions into my class, which made learning much more fun and effective. She listened to students' feedback to adjust the class too. I would totally take another class with her
She gives out way too much work and she's a tough grader. I do not recommend this class if you are looking for a easy Gen Ed to take.
She's very fair. The work isn't hard and she gives really easy to follow instructions. Very fun class!
I feel like she really cares about her students. She lets us text her about hw questions (and even Snapchat if we want lol) and responds really fast. She also is really cool about giving extended deadlines for assignments if youre upfront with her. We had homework each week but it didnt take long and some of it was really interesting.
love her
Incredible professor. I've never had such an interactive, engaging, and entertaining GenEd before. Highly recommended.
Her Online World Music class was really great! I loved that she gave us choices for what to do to earn the points and some of the options were really fun (like making your own composition instead of reading a journal article). There is work due every week but it's not hard. I thought this was a fun class.
made an account just to give her a high rating. lots of busy work but its such an easy and fun class. you can tell she loves what shes doing.
Professor Nypaver is the extremely laid back and very easy going. She truly cares about her job and for her students! She allows a few skips, makes class interactive, and fun! Great way to fulfill your Arts Gen Ed!
Such a great proffesor! She is very sweet to her students. She cares about them alot. She is very enthusiastic/upbeat in class. No quizzes or tests. There are discussion boards every week (easy). Two assignments. A final project at the end. Don't skip class. It's rude to such a sweet proffesor like her. Will be taking her again for world music!
Never seen such a more enthusiastic and caring professor in college. She wants us to do well and is a very easy grader. This is one of the easiest gened classes I have taken. She is a gem and you will love her alot!
Professor Nypaver gives a lot of homework, but you can tell she teaches in a way that allows those who learn best via auditory, visual, or through reading to all succeed and there's a lot of options for assignments so that students can choose what they're sincerely interested in. I thought she was a great online professor, would def recommend.
THE BEST professor I have EVER had!!! Super understanding and caring and will go above and beyond to help if you're struggling as long as you talk to her. She makes learning the material super interesting and wants to see everyone succeed. Take this class if you want an easy gen ed with the best professor ever
Alisha is very sweet and caring. The class was very enjoyable and I did not think I would end up liking it. There are a lot of projects that end up being a bit annoying since they require a lot of use of topics and music words I am not so used to using. Overall was a good class.
Professor Nypaver is a true queen. Her online class was setup by completing the module within two weeks. In reality, it took maybe five hours per module so it's minimal work for a class. As long as put in effort, it's an A. The content is also fairly intertesting. She is such a caring professor by allowing us to hand in work late if needed.
She is an amazing proffesor. Very sweet to her students and always energetic in class. She is like one of those sweet high school teachers who cares alot about you and wants you to do well. She always has a smile on her face in class. I always felt bad when many people skipped her classes. She loves all her students. Pls dont skip!
I would actually take a bullet for this woman. I even put her down as a reference for an internship I applied to for the following summer I loved her that much. The sweetest professor/teacher I have ever met. PLEASE take a class with her!
Very glad I chose this course for my race and diversity gen ed! Professor Npayver is one of my favorite professors I've had here. She encourages learning in a very interesting way of ungrading and gives great feedback. I learned a lot in this course and urge other people to take it as well. One of the best/flexible online classroom setups too!
I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS about Dr. Nypaver. She truly cares about her students and she is an exceptional professor. She'sclear in her instructions, responds to emails fast, So understanding, and truly is a cool woman to talk to. If you have the chance I implore you to take her class Sounds of Philadelphia!!!
Possibly the best professor I have ever taken at Temple. I took her last semester (during covid times) and she was extremely understanding and kind. She gives a doable amount of work and is really flexible if you are trying. It was very easy to get an A. She actually cares about students and their mental/physical health. AMAZING LADY!!!! TAKE HER!
So far this has been the most pleasant professor I've had at Temple. Her class was fully online and was structured perfectly. Contacting her with questions is easy but chances are, you'll understand it the first time. She understands that GenEd courses are required and makes sure you enjoy the coursework. 10/10
I took this class during Summer II, and she was super chill. She let you submit assignments up until the last day of the semester for full credit. Easiest A! Not sure I would take this class during Fall or Spring though. Some reading, but all quizzes were open notes so it didn't matter. No papers or exams either!
Great prof. This is the second class I have taken with Prof. N. and I love her teaching style. She's always very easy to reach if you need help and really cares about her students! The classes aren't hard but you do have to do the work. She's an easy grader and allows you to redo work to get better grades.
I dont know why this professor has good reviews. She is a horrible grader and takes points off for the smallest things. She treats this class as an Honors English Class when it is a music GENED class!! And the worst part is that the information was actually interesting to learn about but she made it annoying. I wish I had chose another professor.
Prof. Nypaver made this a great class. It was asynchronous, but there were a ton of in-person workshops and presentations throughout the semester that you could attend for extra credit.
There is no professor at Temple who cares more about her students than Alisha. She worked with me to help me pass the most difficult semester of my life. And as for the person who said she grades like it's an English class, that wasn't my experience at all. She doesn't grade based on grammar and you get full points for every activity you complete.
Sounds of Philadelphia was my favorite class that I have ever taken at Temple (I'm a senior). Her teaching style allowed us to focus on things that we found interesting and she created a comfortable environment to talk about difficult subjects with our classmates. Take this class if you can!
I learned so much in Sounds of Philadelphia. She has a lot of material, but if you aren't able to get through it all each week you can still get an "A" because she lets you tell her what grade you think you should get. I did most of the readings and videos though because I thought it was actually interesting. I'd take her again for another class.
Prof Nypaver is great! Although I have a music background, I believe that anyone can take this course with ease. You get to learn about history that's actually interesting. This asynchronous course was mostly discussion-based. You get some creative freedom for your final project as well. I got better at writing discussion posts from this class.
Took it as an ETS class, so it was a decent amount of work, but she was really fair and if you tried you did well.
Gotta put in a reasonable amount of effort, participation, and paying attention. Do that and it's an easy GenEd
She has a really different kind of grading style that encourages you to take ownership of your learning experience. It may make some people think that they can blow off the class but honestly I think most people accepted the challenge. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot, and the fieldwork experience was my favorite part!
Miss Alisha was very friendly and caring towards her students. There were a lot of online homework assignments but it is very flexible with late work being turned in. I also liked her 'no grading' approach as it made it less stressful for me to do work. The class was also very interesting an taught me things I was never aware of before in Philly.
She's the best. Take Sounds of Philly. Best Race and Diversity GenEd ever.
The professor provides a huge amount of outside work for the hybrid version of this class. It is completely manageable by sometimes a pain especially as a GenEd. Great professor though, super caring, understanding if you need anything, and really funny.
I had more work for this online gen-ed than any other class I've ever taken in my 3 years. A ton of busy work that won't be graded til the end of the semester. Better off taking any other gen-ed as the amount of work you'll have to complete won't even come close to this course.
I liked this course. It was the first time it was offered, and she was up front about that with us. There are things that could be improved but she was very accessible and met with me a few times during the semester. She was available to text any time I had a question about the assignments, which was really helpful for an online course.
I had already read the plays (Romeo&Juiliet, Macbeth, Midsummer), so that part was pretty easy for me. Some of the musical terms were a little difficult but I liked watching the movies, and when there was an opera you didn't have to watch the whole the thing, just parts. The professor was nice. Good Arts class.
very sweet professor! good class for an art gened just a lot of lengthy projects. if you enjoy music composition take this course, its a little convoluted at times, but nypaver is very understanding and flexible!
There's a lot of interaction with the other students, which I like for online classes. I think there could have been a couple less activities but I did appreciate that she was flexible and not a hard grader, and some of the assignments were fun. I would take her again.
Good GenEd class, and very understanding professor. I'm taking another class with her this Fall.
I took her for the August early start course. WOW it was a lot because it was only 2.5 weeks long but she was super supportive throughout and really easy to get in touch with. There were some fun assignments to break up the discussion boards. She has been a very fair grader, and if you take it as a regular course it's probably pretty easy.
I took World Music and Cultures online over winter break and I definitely recommend it. The class is just online assignments and one concert report, and they're all pretty easy. The prof is very nice and accommodating with any issues. Very easy gened.
Prof Nypaver's class was engaging and rewarding. While the workload can be heavy, her flexible grading encourages you to take ownership of your learning. The discussions and creative projects were highlights. unstuck AI was a helpful study tool too.
I took Sounds of Philadelphia and profs teaching made it a very interesting experience. Most assignments are discussion posts and there's a field work group project. Not very difficult and pretty structured. She's super fun and quirky, not a tough grader.
Professor Nypaver is one of the most caring teachers/professors I've ever had. Even though it was an online class with no meetings, she cares for her students and how we learn. Please take Professor N if you can for any class, as it will be a good experience. If you engage with the material and are open to learn, you will get an A.
She's honestly an awesome professor—she grades easily and isn't harsh, but be careful with using AI because she can tell. The class is very easy; there were times I even forgot I was taking it. It can have a lot of work at moments, but overall it's one of the easiest gen-eds.
She's honestly really sweet and accessible. I needed feedback on a big project, but she didn't respond in time, so she let me submit my assignment late so we could get a chance to meet. She cares about you learning. It's VERY assignment heavy I will say, but if you just need credit, don't take this class. I enjoyed it (mostly) because I learned.
This was a relatively simple class, but you really do have to put in the work consistently. You can't get by doing things last minute or sloppily. She didn't grade by much, but there is a lot of stuff to get done in a short period of time, so make sure you stay on top of it.
