Dr. Adams organized and led a terrific microbiology seminar last spring, bringing together a diverse group of speakers and an interesting array of topics. Her own presentation on using yeast genetics to learn about cancer was clear, informative, and fascinating. I would recommend taking her for any biology course.
Dr. Adams is one of the worst instructors I have had at NAU. She dumbs the class down - which is an insult. I pay tuition to learn - not sit in class and be bored to tears. Avoid her at all costs.
Easily one of the best teachers I've ever had
this was a good class to take for me... very interesting
One of the best professors I have had. She really cares about the success of her students and makes the class fun and interesting.
One of the best professors I have had. She really cares about the success of her students and makes the class fun and interesting.
Dr. Adams never really seems to understand the material and is very unorganized in the classroom. It makes for a pretty bad class.
as long as you go to class you will get an A
She is a great professor for bio 181 and 205 she draws a lot of pictures which helped me and she cares about your grade.
She seems AWESOME. I can't wait to take this cancer seminar class with her.
The Dr. knows how to teach 205, take it with her! She is not boring like the other teachers for this course, who just read from the slides. Her tests are shorter and arent bad. Heads up with the final paper shes grades like an english teacher
Dr. Adams teaches both 205&340 and she's fantastic! Her notes are in a perfect outline format so you never have to crack a book. Her tests are simple and she drops a whole exam score! Her english accent makes everything adorable. Really fun loving and a great teacher.
Dr. Adams is great - if you really don't want to learn anything. Compared to the other instructors, you don't learn anything that matters in the upper division classes.
Incredibly boring lecture. Like mind blowingly boring, and I have had some pretty boring classes. Fails to present class material in an understandable fashion and is unbelievably unorganized. The tests aren't hard when it comes to the material, they are simply hard to comprehend. The questions are worded in a way that they basically become riddles.
Dr. Adams is terrific! Her lectures are straight forward and ALL you need to study for her exams! The quizes are online and you get as many shots as you want, exams are simple and straight from notes! She is always asking if everyone understands before she moves forward. I highly reccomend this prof!
Of all the science courses I have taken so far, she has been my favorite by far. She is a wonderful teacher and is very clear and straightforward. I would recommend her to anyone who would like to learn more about microbiology. She has helped me love this class because she presents the material in such an interesting and clear manner.
Excellent. Made things very easy to comprehend, is straight forward, helpful and nice. Tests and quizzes follow lectures and are straight forward. No complaints - thought she was wonderful as a prof.
Dr. Adams was a very easy teacher. It was good for my GPA but her class did not prepare me for upper level courses. I am having trouble catching up with materials that were supposed to be covered in her class. Easy grade if this is your priority. Other wise stay away from her class.
Dr. Adams was a great professor. Her lectures were very easy to follow along with, just be sure to study for her exams because they can be quite hard. She is willing to review over the paper if you ask her. She is also very willing to help you if you are struggling in the class. Highly recommended.
Here's the deal - if you want an easy A with little or no substance to any class she teaches, Dr. Adams is for you. If you actually WANT TO LEARN about a subject so that it helps in the other classes you take, go find any other teacher. I imagine that many of the 'likes' below were because she is so easy.
Everyone says she was easy, that's not really it. She is clear and concise, she will teach you the topics and concepts, the morphology, disease, and some epi. It is a brilliant intro class for micro, and I learned alot, it all helped greatly in infectious disease, advanced micro, med micro and immuno. Take it from me, she is a great professor.
Alison Adams was a great teacher! She gave everyone the opportunity to succeed, in a difficult course. She explains everything in detail. Takes attendance randomly. The tests were very hard though, but she offers a lot of out of class help. Overall, I would recommend her.
I would reccomend getting another professor. She is unclear and teaches things that will confuse you.
Nice lady, but not a very good professor. Her notes lack structure and she moves WAAAY too fast. Pretends like she is available to help but doesn't clarify anything when you meet with her in office hours. I got an A because I taught myself most of the material.
Compared to the other professors, she may be the best. This is a difficult subject so its hard to know if it was her or just the subject. Her notes are mostly drawings and very very confusing. I pulled off an A but only because I taught myself out of the book. Just PAY ATTENTION in class.
Alison is the sweetest professor and she cares a lot about her students. We had a flipped class soout of the tuesday and thursday class, I only had to go on thursdays. Her classes are very important and there is a huge portion online. She may be hard to understand at times but she is still a great professor. The tests are extremely challenging.
Hands down one of the best professors I've had. I wish every science class was taught by her. Some of the material is challenging but her very clear handwritten notes are so helpful and the only reason I have an A. If you have to take this class, take it from her!
Great professor. Easy and clear but don't be fooled, you need to go to class if you want an A
Dr. Adams is a very sweet lady and knows her stuff. Her lecture style with hand written notes and projector made it easy for me to follow along. Very approachable and is more than willing to help out if asked. Exams are based almost exclusively on the notes she writes so if you write it down and use that to study chances are you''ll do fine.
Hands down, one of my favorite professors. Any question you have she would answer it clearly and in depth. Everything she talks about are on the exam so as long as you pay attention and go to class you be able to get an A.
Dr. Adams is a great lecturer. I ended up in a flip class, so I had to do online lectures instead. The flip class is alright, but I've taken her for other bio classes and regular lecture is better I think. It is nice that she has 3 TA's as well as herself going throughout the class helping students who don't understand a concept. Very knowledgeable
Decided to make BIO 205 more of an online course with the in-class sessions being group work and hardly any lecturing. She has an accent and I think a bit of a speech impediment. Also, writing is not always illegible
Dr. Adams is absolutely wonderful. By far my favorite professor at this University. She is hilarious, and very sweet, and makes her lectures interesting. You definitely have to go to class and take notes. There are online lectures and you work with a group every week in class. No textbook which is nice. Everything you need is from lectures.
Not a fan of her class or teaching style. Interested in the material, dont like how she has us read and listen to lectures and then spend the class doing a worksheet. If it werent for the fact that I'm doing terrible in the class and those worksheets count as points...i wouldnt even go to class! Her handwriting is hard to read in the lectures online
Dr. Adams is a wonderful lady who really works hard to make sure her students understand Microbiology. Her class is very easy to me, and as long as you do the work, attend class and go to the occasional SI it's an easy A. Dr. Adams is really funny and understands how students learn. I would definitely recommend her to anyone.
Adams was an awesome teacher, she was very clear with the things she wanted you to know & the things that you didn't need to focus on. Definitely study for the exams, take notes on the online lectures, and go to class for your assigned section, you'll get an A
Super easy class and very good professor. As long as you can understand English, her lectures are very helpful.
I have taken Dr. Adams for multiple classes now and absolutely love her teaching style and lectures. Very interesting and helpful with just about anything. Would recommend for any bio major looking for and easy class style that you will really learn in.
Adams is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Every single one of her lectures is posted online and her class time is filled with group work that is far from beneficial. She only had two tests that encompassed WAY TOO much material and very few ways, if any, to make up for a low test grade. Do not take this class.
I am not sure why Dr. Adams has such good feedback on here. She was a terrible teacher. Her accent is very thick, and she has chicken scratch hand writing. All of her lectures are online, which gives you no way to ask questions. Her exams are very difficult. I am retaking this course next semester with another professor. DO NOT TAKE HER.
This class is not easy, she's a good teacher but she expects you to know so, so much. Her tests are really hard, lots of 'trick' questions that you don't even realize that were tricks. Lectures are outside of class online which is nice because you can pause the lecture and take notes. In class you do handouts that are far from helpful.
Her class is very easy. She explains things ever clearly. She makes the class very interesting.
Prof Adams is the best professor I have ever had. She has an excellent teaching style. She posts lectures online. Only homework is a easy pre and post quiz each week. No papers or take homework. She is happy to answer questions and is extremely knowledgable. I recommend her to anyone!
Dr. Adams is awesome! If you do all your work and study before exams you should get an A no problem.
I took a hybrid section. Try and do a full in class version of this, and take it with a different prof. Her accent is easy enough to understand, but her hand writing is not. She doesn't do power points, she writes the notes and you have to copy them and getting down what she writes and says is impossible.
Her class is flipped you watch these long lectures online outside of class and take quizzes on them, and work on assignments in class. She is really nice but the tests are difficult if you are not prepared. Everything is based on the online lectures.
Dr. Adams is a nice lady. The only thing I struggled with were her online lectures- they are long and if you have questions, expect to Google search and try to find the answers. Sometimes Dr. Adams doesn't seem to understand your questions in class/ email, and will give you the same exact info from her online lecture.
Dr. Adams runs this class nicely and explains content very well. I took a blended learning version of the class. All the lectures are online, and then you show up once a week, do a worksheet based off the lecture notes, and afterwards she explains lecture aspects in more detail. Tests aren't too bad if you prepare thoroughly for them. Solid prof.
Alison is a great professor. The online lectures were extremely helpful and would foreshadow what you were going to do class that week. There were few things you got graded on so the tests were important. If you study the material that she teaches on the online lectures and the mini ones in class, you will be fine.
She has online lectures out of class and assignments in class, there are 2 quizzes online a week based on the lecture and in class. Practically the entire grade is based off the quizzes and the 3 or 4 exams depending if you take the final. she will not give any exceptions to grades, but does offer an extra credit point every so often.
I have taken this course in a biotech program in HS before, and felt that I learned more then. All of her notes are outside of class, and you just reinforce the notes you took, thru worksheets, in class. She is very educated, but expects you to know every small detail for exams, rather than focusing on the key aspects, so study everything.
She has online lectures for every class because it's a blended course. Exam questions come straight from her online lectures and in-class lectures. Don't skip class or leave early because she lectures at the end and the material ends up on exams. Your grade is basically based off your 3-4 exam grades so do good on them. Good professor overall.
Grade is based on exams
If you have to take this class, don't. She does teach blended classes and you only go into class once a week and when you do have class you literally do a work sheet the entire time. The worksheets are graded only for doing it by the TA's. She is a nice lady but her in class explanations make sense and I felt like I learned more from the SI.
I had high expectations and high hopes for Dr. Adams, none of them were met. Her online lectures don't help what you do in class or what the post-quizzes are over. She expects you to understand something after briefly explaining it once and not going in depth of how to do problems related to what she teaches. I would stray away if possible.
I feel like I never truly know what to study for on her exams. Your grade is based off of these 3 huge exams which is awful. The amount of effort put into her online lectures is laughable and makes for a difficult situation where you have to teach yourself. I'm constantly lost and distracted by everyone leaving class early. Hate the hybrid factor.
Do the work and you can get an A! Dr. A knows what she's doing, but you have to study for the exams, they are very similar to the study guides luckily. The class is half online which is super nice. One class a week when though Louie will show 2.
The set up isn't the best.
My experience wasn't the best. She grades you on quizzes, worksheets, and 3 exams. That's overall, there is also the readiness test and some extra credit. If you don't take notes on the online lectures, then you can't do the worksheets in class. Class is just doing the worksheet and going over it. I think she makes it more complicated than needed.
Dr. Adams got forced into a poorly formatted class. My BIO240 class was one day a week which made it difficult to learn. All of the lectures are online and her handwriting is difficult to read. Dr. Adams assumes that the students assume what is going on and moves quickly. The class size is very large and doesn't allowed for much individual help.
I never had an idea about what was going on in class. Half of the class is online which is terrible and she expects you to know everything that was online. Her teaching style is drawing pictures of cells but not really explaining the pictures so when I go back and look at my notes I have no idea what anything means.
The exams were very confusing and sometimes didn't correlate with the online and class lectures.
This is by far the worst biology class I have taken. Don't bother trying to give Dr. Adams feedback because she will say as she stated to my sproing class, "You can be pissed at me all you want, but I won't change anything". The Inquizitives are pointless BUT necessary because in order to keep your grade up, you need those little points.
Exams had terribly worded questions. Class is only once a week so you must attend, and do the notes every week plus inquizitives. You can not go back on questions when taking exams and you only get to take 3 exams. So every point counts
If taking Biology 205, do not take it with Alison Adams. She knows what she is talking about, however you will have to teach yourself the class. It is a blended course so you do online lectures and then spend the hour in class working on worksheets that are literally worth 3 points. You also only take three exams online and can not go back on them.
Adams class was very hard don't get me wrong. But the people writing bad reviews probably did not study as hard as they should have. Completely possible to get an A or B if you work hard & study her in-class and online lectures. Participation points are added at end of semester & they greatly impact your grade. Go to class, pay attention, & STUDY!
Adams admits this class is hard. You WILL work for your grade, like every other Microbiology class. People do bad in this class because they slack off and then complain about her (unfair). She is the definition of a college professor. She lectures and teaches a lot, but a lot of it she expects you to study/review on your own time. DONT SKIP CLASS.
People are just mad they got a bad grade. This class is harder than any other class I've taken. But that is not the teacher's fault. You HAVE to go to class. You HAVE to spend time studying the online lectures. You should go to SI sessions & meet with Adams if you don't understand! If you put in the work, you WILL do good on the tests. Do your part
Adams is so smart and knows what she's talking about. She really does want you to do good. Participation points and inquizitives and extra credit bumped my grade SO much. Go to class and ask questions and put in the work and it'll show. Hard class, but she does as good as anyone else teaching this subject. Confusing, but possible.
I had Adams for 205 (got a C), I did not want to take her again butttt i had no option. I gave her a chance & shes super helpful!! -look over material & See her in office hrs!! - Go to class, fill out all the worksheet for full cred - Stay for lecture, people leave & that's why they get c's/fail - Go to the SI, she was helpful -Do the extra cred
the only things for this class are the test and quizzes. get ready to teach yourself everything no texbook for class either just power points
Professor Adams is very charming and helpful. Her lectures are easy to follow along with and she words her explanations well. The online lectures can get a bit tedious, but otherwise the class is pretty straight forward. As long as you study a bit before the exams its pretty easy to do well in her class.
Class is defined by tests. But she makes the material easy to understand. You don't necessarily have to attend class, there isn't attendance, but she does have password protected quizzes. Lucky for you, quizzes usually take place the last 15 minutes of class, so you wouldn't have to attend everything if you didn't want to.
I love professor Adams! She was the sweetest professor Ive had this semester and I enjoyed meeting her during her office hours. I loved this class and I cant wait to take her classes again!
Good at answering questions, very responsive. Lectures are really just for clarification from reading/videos.
Tests are right from her lectures, but difficult class because you have to teach yourself. Good teacher overall.
I loved this class. Due to COVID, the class was entirely online, and Alison Adams handled it great! There are weekly lectures and quizzes, which are easy to follow and take if you watch the lectures. The only points that contribute to your grade are exams and quizzes, so no buffer points. Overall great class!
She adapted so well to online classes and really made sure all of her students understood the material. She communicates well with the SI so tutoring is a great option but most likely not needed. She gives so much material to help you understand and if you're interested in a topic she will stay late to explain it to you and give you extra materials
She is so sweet and you can tell she really cares about what she teaches plus she tells you not to buy the textbook unlike the other professor.. The class is super easy as long as you pay attention to the lectures and she is always more than happy to answer questions. Highly recommend her over the other BIO205 professor.
She is amazing at explaining and gives ONLY quizzes and exams which are worth a LOT. She lets you use your notes to take the exams which is fair, but the questions are often IN-DEPTH and difficult to answer. I did not attend the SI sessions and I don't know how well they would have helped me. If you're a bad test taker, don't take this professor
Prof Adams is amazing! She is very knowledgeable and cares about her students. There are 4 exams (40 pts each) including the final and 11 quizzes (12 pts each) but that's all that goes into the grade book. No extra credit offered but she drops 2 quizzes and an exam! 205 is a hard class but I think Adams made it manageable.
Dr. Adams was a great professor for Microbiology and I feel like I learned a lot from her course. The SI sessions are extremely helpful if you are struggling and helped me pass with an A. This class is very heavy on quizzes and exams, but if you are putting in the work I promise youll do great! This class was definitely one of my favorites!
Dr. Adams was great. Her lectures and worksheets really help you understand the content. Do study though because only things in the grade book are quizzes and exams so not much room for error.
Dr. Adams was an amazing professor! Her recorded lectures were not very helpful for me with understanding the material, so attending class is pretty much necessary to get a good grade. She makes learning the material much easier with how she draws diagrams and how she explains the topics. She also truly cares about her students.
For this class, you watch two pre-lecture videos (about 15 minutes long each) and you take notes each week. You go to class once a week and review that information then take a quiz on your own time. After a few weeks go by, you will have no class and will take an exam based on those few weeks. That is basically it and in my opinion, pretty easy.
she only grades tests and quizzes her lectures are FAST and she really only uses diagrams and pictures in her lectures which makes it hard to follow along although it is not mandatory to go to her lectures i recommend going to listen but its hard to follow she will answer questions clearly though so ask
