It was an okay course. Focused on the Harlem Renaissance, its literature, and a surprising amount on photography. Quite a lot of reading, about as many assignments as a 400-level course, and a final to boot. Lectures were sort of dry because it was just going through slides relating to the texts and a lot of the essays on photography were tedious.

Tough course (lots of reading, fair marker) but professor made it manageable.

One of the best english teachers in my entire life!!! Her teaching is pretty attractive and never get boring. She is always kind to any students who ask question even in not fluent english. It's my pleasure being her student in this institute.

Alison's lectures are truly inspiring and vigorous. The ideas she presents seep into your head and have the capacity to impact you on a much deeper level. Definitely a life-changing experience, look at what you gain beyond just the grades. Not saying it's a hard course, but expect to really explore your ideas and presenting them in your essays :)

Absolutely fantastic, very interesting, presents an extremely nuanced look at all the texts read. If I had one complaint it would be the first "in-class" paper, which she expected us to be prepared for without telling us the questions we were preparing for. However, she took feedback and the remaining papers were much better/smoother.

Unfortunately for professor Dean there are people in the world who hate women.Professor Dean is not an extreme feminist. Her opinion are moderate.She is a normal woman and that bothers some people.

Professor Dean runs a solid class. Attend lectures, read the textbook, and use study tools like unstuck AI - it really helps with prep. Overall, a challenging but rewarding course.
