Dr. Greene is an interesting teacher. The quizzes are straight from the book, but the midterms and final are very elaborate. It is hard to study for them. Classroom attendance is mandatory but not helpful except for watching the weird videos. However, she is a real down to earth teacher who is willing to help in any way possible.
Excellent teacher. All about hands-on knowledge and experience. Most classes involve watching videos and documentaries. She loves in-class group projects. We play-acted "Feeding Desire" by R. Popenoe. A lot of reading. You have to understand material, not just memorize, to do well on tests. Unusual, interesting, esp if you like other cultures.
Enthusiastic and friendly. Exams questions were sometimes just worded extremely weird and a little too detailed. Lots of reading! Loved her as a person though.
Dr. Greene is very enthusiastic about what she teaches, which makes the class more enjoyable. If you go to lectures and read the assignments tests aren't bad, just wordy. If you are interested in the class you should make a point to talk to her, she is a pleasure to have a conversation with.
professor greene is really awesome and has great stories and information. going to class isn't really helpful for the tests but if you do all the reading (which is a lot) then you will do fine on the tests. the class is really interesting and worth taking
She's...okay. Nice lady, and enthusiastic about what she teaches and that's always a plus in a professor but if anthropology isn't your thing then she can be long-winded. Likes to guilt trip students for not doing well on tests or not coming to office hours
She is SO nice. This class could be very boring-she makes it worth going to. I felt like a more well rouned person after taking her class.
She is an awesome enthusiastic professor! We watched a lot of documentaries during class, but it was a lot of reading. Tests usually weren't bad though. This class is the reason I chose ant. as my minor.
She is extremely obsessed with anthropology. I took this as a requirement and hated it. She expects so much from students including buying three books. Tests are very detail oriented. Much studying and reading is required. If you're taking it because you have to, don't take Greene.
Professor Greene is a great teacher. She makes things entertaining, including youtube videos, documentaries and skits. Definitely do the assigned reading and you'll be fine. Her tests are multiple choice too.
She's very quirky, that's probably the best way to describe her. The class isn't that hard--I didn't put much effort into it and will probably make a B, but I also didn't buy 2 of the 3 required. Buy Feeding Desire, you WILL need it. You can probably get away with not buying the others, though.
She's very quirky. This class covers such a vast spance of material. If you're looking for an easy A don't bother here. I worked quite hard just to get an A-, 2 major projects and 3 tests. But the good news is you can skip class and do okay because it is such a book heavy course!
She's super friendly and helpful when you ask. She wants her students to do well but expects too much from them. It's an entry level class and she expects you to be an expert on the vast topics covered over the course of the semester. The class covers too much material for students to be able to keep up and she assigns too many readings.
An excellent teacher. Works hard to give her students the best feedback. No official textbook to buy which saved me money. If you actually put forth effort, you'll get a good grade in this class, have fun, and learn something new. Highly recommended.
She's very enthusiastic and nice, but very unorganized when it comes to giving information and her power points don't make a lot of sense, so if you don't read the material you won't pass. She also assigns a lot of reading and treats the class like it's the only one you have. I do not recommend taking her class.
She is funny and nice. She only has 2 projects and 3 tests. Her tests are all multiple choice, but they are by no means easy. She really thinks this is the only class the students are in. TOO MUCH READING. She doesn't change her tests, if you have a friend who took the class, get the tests from them. She takes a long time to grade projects too.
I can tell that Alison Greene was once a great teacher but now she's too old or something. She started out the semester strong, and I was really interested. She lost a lot of homework, passed back graded assignments that she said she didn't receive, and the test questions were unnecessarily hard. Also EXTREMELY liberal but thats expected these days
Definitely an amazing professor! Her tests are easy as long as you read. There is a lot of reading but it's interesting. She's an easy grader on projects and gives extra credit several times during the semester. Her lectures are super interesting if you like social issues, politics, etc. I would definitely recommend taking the class w/ her.
Dr. Greene is a great professor! She assigns a lot of readings but just expects you to get the main points not memorize every detail. She grades easy on the projects and offers extra credit opportunities. The tests are very detailed but if you pay attention to the material from the chapters, readings and films (I know it sounds hard) it's easy.
A very liberal class and conservatives will frequently shake their heads in opposition. She is scattered all over the place while talking. A ton of reading that has nothing to do with class. The tests are challenging, but she allows you to write the essay portion ahead of class. Will talk for hours answering a simple question.
She's really nice, and she has a lot of cool stories about her field work which are relevant to her tests. You will need to read the textbook, and the supplemental readings right before a test in order to do well. Participation isn't graded, but she really tries to get people engaged! Didn't need to take notes really, powerpoints are very wordy.
Professor Greene does a lot of lecturing and PowerPoints but she keeps them interesting by mixing in her own experiences from traveling and doing her own ethnographic fieldwork. Her stories are great and she makes it fun to learn about other cultures! But do the readings! (And yes I mean all of them!)
Many extra credit opportunities. Read and you will succeed. Not much work.
Dr. Greene is a pretty easy teacher as long as you do your readings. If you read, take notes, and listen in class, this will be an easy class for you. However, if you hate group projects, you probably shouldn't take her. She does a couple throughout the course.
Dr. Greene is a very quirky lady. You can tell she really does care about the class. She gave us numerous extra credit opportunities and had review sessions before every test. She really made an effort to teach the class well and I have been recommending her to others to take. Just put a good amount of effort in and you will get an A+.
She's a little crazy but I didn't pay attention in class at ALL and did all my readings a few days before the test and got A's. The group projects are annoying but graded lightly. She's squirrely but caring and understanding (will extend stuff). The readings are needed. Find her told tests even though she says she changes them (she doesn't really)
Alison Greene is one of the sweetest teachers I have ever met, and she has so much passion for her material. At times she can be a bit preachy (and at other times inaccurate) about social issues facing many cultures, but she cares for every student and will always help. Tests are ace-able with minimal studying in my experience.
This class is definitely one that you will have to do a LOT of reading in, as well as watching multiple documentaries. Her exams directly relate to what you read and watch outside of class, too, so you have to do it and you will have to get the textbook. Attendance is mandatory but her policy isn't that strict. There is multiple group projects.
I really Liked Dr. Greene. I am a STEM major and I felt that she was very kind and caring to the students outside of the ANT major. I felt that there was a lot of information in the books that straight up went over in class. So, really if you listen to her in class you have minimal reading, although she does assign reading for each class.
Greene is a very sweet teacher and I really enjoyed her class. Just be ready to read and work on group projects. Group projects aren't hard, but are time consuming. Exams are not hard, but you do have to memorize maps (w/o word banks; just a blank map). Greene will do all she can to help you succeed if you give the effort!
Dr. Greene is wonderful. She has a very interesting personality which makes it much more enjoyable to come to class. The work is reasonable and she is very understanding of the individual circumstances that her students may have going on. I highly recommend her!
Lectures for most of the class and the rest of the time is for graded discussions. Requires you to read a lot and watch documentaries. Tests include everything from the articles, documentaries, textbook chapters and lectures so if you don't pay attention or don't read you won't pass. Professor is very sweet and this class is fun if you engage.
Professor Greene is a sweet &caring woman who is very passionate about her work & her class. She wants her students to succeed. There is a decent amount of reading & all the readings listed ARE on the exams and arent always discussed in class so make sure you look over all the material. A few projects - all are more time consuming than hard overall
Dr. Greene obviously knows and cares a lot about anthropology. However, her lectures are really disorganized and since her exams are based in part on her lectures, it is hard to feel prepared for them. Also, there are a lot of extra reading assignments that no one does because she really doesn't incentivize them and they are quite dense.
Dr. Greene is very passionate about what she teaches, but there are a lot of readings required. For this class, there was three ethnographic books, the textbook, and a couple other readings that all students must read in order to be prepped for the tests. Her lectures are interesting and the discussion of the readings help, overall a fun class.
This class is taught by a cultural appropriator of a professor who has no qualifications to teach any of the course content. Oh yeah the course content she didn't even bother teaching just makes you read an ungodly amount of text and makes the class teach it, so don't take this class with her if you want to learn and also keep your wits about you.
I really liked Dr. Greene! She was always upbeat for class and knows what she's talking about. She answers emails quickly as well, and is a rather fair/easy grader on projects/essays. Her tests are rather heavy, with it being based on all textbooks/videos/readings that we had, but she provides good extra credit and projects/papers to make up.
Professor Greene was energetic and passionate about anthropology. 3 BIG projects in her class. Grades fair on them. Exams are hard because she tests you on textbooks/videos/readings that we had. She provided extra credit if you attended her showing of TIMBUKTU during the semester. I would create a group chat with those around you for extra help.
Dr. Greene is enthusiastic about teaching this class and can get a little behind in lectures because of it. All of the class was basically taking notes the whole time. LOTS of reading outside of class for weekly homework grades. Tests aren't that bad because she gives study guides and there are lots of quizlets out there.
Honestly, this class was not my favorite-- just kind of average. On a daily basis, Dr. Greene mostly just lectures off her PowerPoints (which have way too much info to take notes on) and makes you participate in group discussions. She also gives three major projects that count for a good portion of your grade, along with two tests and the final.
Dr. Greene is a very nice woman who knows a lot about the subject. The thing was that she crammed a lot of information into the lectures and we barely had time for discussion or anything else. The exams were pretty specific and she never curved them. She grades the projects light.
Very enthusiastic, but gave absurd amounts of homework. If you truly care about the topic, take her class, as she will give you lots of opportunity to learn, and has hands-on experience herself. If you are just going for a GEP credit, take someone else. Her projects are easy, but you have to study hard for her tests, as she teaches a lot of content
Dr. Greene is so kind and compassionate. There is lots of reading (an ethnography, textbook, and PDFs) and required films but the class is very interesting. If you think something was graded unfairly, reach out because chances are she will revise her grading. She's very accessible and understanding. Take her if you're an anthro major!
There is an absurd amount of reading. Each week she will require you to read many different articles, multiple chapters, multiple PowerPoints, watch videos, in class assignments, and multiple inQuisitives. You have to read 2 books, and there are 3 major projects. So much is crammed in the most chaotic way.
So easy, she gives so many readings but you can do none of them and still do well. Her lectures are super disorganized, but the material is mostly common sense and easy to follow. I didn't enjoy the class but if you want an easy A take it.
She is a really sweet lady, and cares about her job. She tells great stories. The class is heavy on reading, but it is not a difficult class. The exams are a little challenging.
Super sweet and I highly recommend this class if you care about the subject. Absurd amount of reading assigned. Not hard work, but way too much. Exams are pretty hard, but just read through the Powerpoints, do the inquizitives and pray for the reading questions and you're fine. Extremely disorganized, it is so bad, never expect to finish a class.
I have mixed feelings on Dr. Greene's classes. She is a very nice woman and very caring but also very disorganized. This class is also driven by reading and group discussion, which is not the best way for me to learn. There are lots of readings and assignments, but I learned quite a bit. Only take if you are interested in the topic.
Great professor good lectures the test are on quizlet and coursehero so just look them up the night before she has a lot of reading but I did none of it and ended with a 99 just pay attention in class when she is talking about what you where supposed to read and follow the rubric exactly for essay and projects and you will end with an A
Very interesting lectures and coursework is not difficult, Dr. Greene is nice and tells many stories about her fieldwork. She is actually passionate about the things she teaches.
She's nice, but she expects too much of us for what should be an easy class (it's a pre-requisite). There are 4 books, ~10 films, discussion posts every week, 3 tests, and 3 essays, plus a 30+ slide project and a presentation on a reading or film. It's a lot to do, and she doesn't like to give out 100s for doing the work. But she does care about us
Dr. Greene is a very kind person who cares deeply about her students, however her exams are challenging. She gives long lectures that are never finished in class and she expects students to read a LOT of readings and watch a lot of films. The tests are confusing unless you literally know everything, which is hard when there's so much information.
Dr. Greene is the most enthusiastic, kind-hearted professor. You can tell she is passionate about anthropology. She assigns lots of readings (most of which you can get away with not reading), but the tests/classwork aren't too tricky. Study and understand the main ideas. She wants to work with you. Go to her office hours and ask questions in class!
Dr. Greene was a great professor and I loved how enthusiastic she was and the stories she shared. This was my first anthropology class at NCSU and it honestly made me really enjoy the subject. Make sure you keep up with inquizitives but she is not a harsh grader and overall a great professor if you can take her
She's very nice and the class was generally fairly easy as long as you kept up with it and did the work, which wasn't really that much. The lectures go on for a bit too long sometimes, but it's normally a pretty good class to go to.
Dr. Greene is SO SWEET! She is really passionate about anthropology and has fun stories! However, if you are taking ANT 252 for a GEP credit, just know that it was A LOT of work. There is reading to complete before every class but I never did any of it and ended up with an A. If you don't do the reading, you def need to study it before tests.
Dr. Greene is super kind and understanding, very sweet professor. Her class involves more reading than other classes but its bc shes super passionate abt the subject. tests are based on everything covered in class. gives extra credit. projects are very leniently graded. overall easy A if you put in work to understand material.
Greene was a very passionate teacher. You could tell she loves teaching. But DO NOT TAKE FOR EASY GEP! The class is not easy unless you like ANT The tests are based on readings, films, AND powerpoints. It is impossible to know everything for the test There are three projects The first one is easy but then there is a book review and a group project.
Nice person, awful professor. Lectures are long and boring and it's hard to tell what's important vs what's not because she rambles on and on about who knows what. Tests are on lockdown browser, and project guidelines are extremely vague with little true direction to go on. Pretty tough grader too; will take off points where she feels like it.
Dr. Green is an amazing and passionate professor. The exams can be pretty difficult but the rest of the class is pretty straightforward. Take her if you can, especially if you are interested in anthropology.
I cannot STAND this class. I thought it would be a class I would enjoy, but it ended up with me absolutely hating this class. The midterms are super hard, PLEASE make sure you read the articles, as many of the questions are very specific questions about the articles assigned. I don't recommend it to non-anthropology students.
Very nice lady and truly cares about her students and their health. However unless you have to take this class I do not recommend. Her lectures are very long and boring because she rambles the whole time. The amount of information she expects you to know for each exam is actually insane and remembering everything is simply impossible.
Dr. Greene's knowledge and passion for the subject was appreciated. She just went into such detail that I felt overwhelmed and didn't know where to start when studying. Tests were very difficult, online & lockdown browser. The 3 projects and Inquisitive were what saved my grade from being a C. Only take if you are truly interested in anthropology.
Dr. Greene is passionate but that means she loves to elaborate so we were always behind. You follow the chapters of the textbook with extra readings, you can probably get by without too much reading but there are group forums where you discuss the reading and it is graded. 3 projects: a kinship tree, a book report, a group project. 3 exams total
Enthusiastic lectures that I really enjoyed; Greene cares a lot, has evident passion, and is willing to help. Exams are quite difficult-- still did well with in-depth studying and review. Papers/projects are fairly graded. Discussion boards relatively often, maybe once a week, but you work with others on them.
Professor Greene has a clear passion for anthropology and it shows in every lecture. She is funny and has a unique personality, but her lectures are beyond dry. The amount of content expected to know on the exams is extremely high, and the projects save you. Do not take as an easy GEP, but if you match her passion it can be a great class.
Greene is wonderfully caring and contagiously enthusiastic. I loved her passion. Lectures can be a bit drawn out and there is a LOT of reading, but the information is generally quite interesting. Exams are really detailed and pulled straight from the readings and presentations. 3 projects but they're rather simple and fairly graded.
Professor Greene is passionate and it shows throughout every lecture she gives. However, her lectures are extremely long and she often seems to ramble on. The tests are difficult, with her expecting you to know what feels like every single molecule of information in order to do well. There is about 3 projects and all are graded very leniently.
She is very passionate about what she does and very quirky but it's funny and entertaining in my opinion. She assigns a lot of readings but doesn't really care too much if you didn't read them but the material will be on tests. Tests are easy if you do the work. There is a good bit of homework but she gives plenty of time to complete.
Professor Greene is very passionate about what she does, but that often leads to her going on long tangents in class. There is a ton of content to cover in this class, so it is hard to find what to study when reviewing. Projects definitely saved my grade, as even though the exams are all multiple choice, I found them pretty difficult.
Do NOT take her class. Any of them.. She allows her own beliefs to dictate how she teaches and will shame you if you disagree with her. The absolute worst professor at the university. I really hope shes a nice lady outside of class, but goodness shes not a good teacher.
There are a ton of readings but are not necessary for a passing grade. If you put a fair amount of effort in, you'll pass with a good grade. If you don't put effort in you won't. I would recommend going to most classes, but this is a class that can be missed SOMETIMES.
I took this class online and was 5-weeks. I don't think you should take it 5-weeks because there is a lot of information you need to remember but the information we learned was interesting enough. You don't have to read every article that she assigns (I didn't) but you can skim it. She's passionate and gives extra credit.
This professor is extremely unorganized. She also has never finished one lecture during the entire semester because she starts rambling about her own experiences. When she does not finish the lecture, you are expected to finish it yourself. The midterms and exams are so much material to cover, so it is impossible to make a good grade.
She is a very passionate professor but that's really the only good I have to say. The exams are super hard and she derives many of the questions from the most minute details in the readings.
I loved Mrs. Greene as a person; she was very kind and forgiving about absences. Her class however... there are two textbooks as well as online "Inquizzatives", the exams expect you to know an obscene amount of information about everything, and her lectures are PACKED with information, so you don't know what's important. The projects save you.
Passionate about teaching anthropology in ways that apply to real-life problems, and cares about her students. Assigns a lot of additional readings + film clips, but you just need to skim through them and understand the point of those sources, since she references them in test questions. The projects are easy, but definitely study for the tests.
If you don't have hours to read and watch many films outside of class with little to no instructor lectures, I wouldn't take this course. It is heavily student-led on topics that people are not knowledgeable about beforehand. In other classmates' grading, points were taken off for unclear reasons, and she didn't elaborate on why they were deducted.
Get ready to actually bust your ass trying to get an A in this class. Quizlets got your back. Exams are impossible bc she pulls questions from the textbook. Stay on top of inquizitive. Projects save ur grade. If you have good attendance she gives you a attendance boost at the end of the semester.
it is impossible to get an A in her tests. lectures are boring and insignificant
Professor Greene is a very nice person and is kind of quirky. The class is graded on group projects, discussion forums, and tests. Everything is easy except for the tests, it feels impossible to know all the information that is on the tests. You have to actually do your homework, read the textbook, read the articles, and watch the films.
She spends way too much time on stuff that's self-explanatory and no time on topics no one knows about. The exams are multiple choice but about the most minute details of the textbook. The projects basically save everyone's grades, seeing as the class averages for exams were in the 40s. She also says weird stuff that lowkey comes across as racist.
Don't take this as your Interdisciplinary. Class is unexpectedly much harder than one would think, and Professor Greene is hard to follow in lectures. Heavy sidetracking tendency that makes her lectures spotty and very hard to follow what we need to know and what she just randomly says. Politics is brought up quite frequently, sometimes randomly.
