This was a really fun class, plus she's british which makes the class seem prestigous.
Fun class. She's totally enthusiastic and can captivate students. As stupid as it sounds, the accent she has does help make it seem like your watching some prestigious art show. Fun, easy class.
Awesome teacher! Her lectures are interesting and invigorating with no work, just tests, 1 paper, and extra credit that is offered at the end of the semester. Go to lectures, takes good notes and your set. Highly recommended
she was okay, but if you study the images in the book you are more likely to pass than soley on lectures. Her quizzes were mainly based on multiple choice. All in all...it's she's an okay teacher.
she is a great teacher that knows what she is talking about. always willing to help out a student. no homework, the tests are multiple chioce, she gives study guides that if you stick to youll get an A. shes got a cool acsent that may put you to sleep. very nice teacher that actually cares.
I love this teacher. She gives great lectures, tells you everything you need to know. She gives no homework and is very clear about what is going to be on the test. As long as you take good notes and pay attention you will do great in her class. She makes the class very interesting as well.
Pretty easy and straight forward. There are also extra credit things that you can do to make up for that B or C.
Interesting class, she keeps it light and fun. No homework except for reading and you don't even have to do that to pass the class.
2.2 is an easy enough class. I thought it was all post-renaissance art, but it stops, sadly, before modern art. Nice teacher. Don't take it early if you have problems staying awake. Good times.
Mrs. Hinnenberg is one of the best profeeors I have ever had! She is clear and her lectures are very interesting. I have not talked to anyone who did not love her class! Highly recommended!!!
I love this class. Alison is a great teacher and very interesting. She really makes it fun and has a great sense of humor.
Great Prof.
Wonderful, interesting and intelligent teacher! The class was very easy if you put the time in to study and follow directions on the paper. Test questions are a little subjective and tricky. Her British accent really makes the class seem fancy and fun! Highly recommended!
A wonderful teacher, she knows what she's teaching and really prepares you for the tests. She gives you the vocabulary and the study list ahead of time which makes it really helpful. She has traveled to a lot of the places she shows on the slides, and even uses her own photos from her travels. A great teacher, I'd really recomend her.
Boring, but did I learn more about history then in any history class. Also art, the information she gave me really stuck with me. So now I can seem smart, isn't that was schools about?
She is an awesome teacher! I agree with the other reviewer that she knows her stuff. She is very clear about expectations and what will be on the test. Fair grader. A++++ I came away inspired about Art History.
awsome class but don't go to class tired because it is almost entirely spent in the dark (slide shows.
She was very pleasant. When studying for tests read the text book as well the notes. When writing the art journal make sure to put personal opinions, she really likes to know what you think
Awesome Teacher! Her lectures are fun and interesting to listen to. Very knowledgable. She prepares you well for her tests. Good class. You learn alot. I'd take her class again in a heartbeat.
very good with clarity, she has visited most of the locations she talks about, so she has alot of personal experience
Her lectures are made so much more interesting because of her British accent! Be prepared for a lot of memorizing(names and dates).
good teacher. Makes the material clear and gives you a head up on whats going to be on the tests
Wonderful teacher, very interested in her subject, very clear about what is going to be on the tests. Three multiple-choice quizzes and a paper. Just pay attention and take notes and her class will be no problem!
She is a fantastic teacher! I have taken her class twice and wouldn't mind taking it again. Every year she goes to Egypt and for anyone who is intrested should go! I went last year and it was the best time ever! Her classes are also very easy and not boring. Take her for sure!
class is sometimes boring, but if you study the right material the tests should not be too hard. sometimes the test questions are kind of difficult, but not too bad. if you study for a long time and have good concentration the class shouldn't be too hard
its hard to adapt to her test styles, and if you don't do good on more than one test your in big trouble. she seems to know her stuff though.
An awesome teacher! Lectures are very interesting, and she really knows her stuff. Even if you're not that interested in the topic, she makes it interesting. Exams are a lot of information, but if you study, you'll be just fine. Take this teacher, she's great!
I really enjoyed this class. I will never look at Art in the same way again. Ms. Hinnenberg is a great teacher who loves her subject. The English accent adds to the experience, she is wonderful. Take this class, you will not regret it.
She is one of the most inspiring professors I have had. She is passionate about what she teaches, Classes are clear and fascinating, and the tests are straight forward. I can't wait to take another class from her!
Not only does she have a British accent, she is an intelligent and very passionate about her work. You can tell she truly appreciates art. The exams are not so bad, as long you attend class and take proper notes. She also hands out a list of the paintings you will be tested on to better prepare her students. The ones who do poorly on the exams are
She loves art and its noticeable. This class will be very easy if you pay attention to the lecture/slide-show, attention class, and take notes.Tests are easy.I didn't really study. This is not a hard class at all.The ppl who have a hard time are the ones who sleep during the slide-show and the ones who come to lecture once in two weeks.
Love the British accent, make sure to take notes there is alot she teaches not in the text book. She really loves art and it shows. I opened the text book three times this semester to study for each exam and got a "B" there are only three exams one paper and no final easy class, good teacher I would highly recomend her for ART 2.1.
I took 2.1 to satisfy some general ed reqs. andfound out that I absolutely LOVED art history! It is now my major. She was so informative and my hand couldn't keep up with all the notes I was taking. She is very sweet and funny too. I can't wait for 2.3!
I took 2.1 and 2.2 from her, and nearly changed my major to art history because I loved her classes so much. She has traveled a great deal, has taken many of the slide photos herself making for interesting information on the subjects, and is extremely knowledgable. Don't miss class, tests are directly from lecture. Tests are easy if you study notes
I took this class as a requirement and really expected to be bored stiff in this class, but Alison made the class fun and interesting. Make sure you attend class as most of the notes are important for the tests. One paper is required for the semester. There are 3 tests given and the final is NOT cumulative. Overall a great teacher!
Good professor. Entertaining and engaging. Some of the slides she shows are ones that she took, so she really knows her stuff. Definitely taking 2.2 from her.
Easy, Fun
She was my favorite teacher at the JC! I loved the classes so much, I took all three of the 2 series with her (2.1, 2.2, and 2.3). The classes were so interesting that I switch from a Practice of Art major to a History of Art major. She's a great lecturer and a really nice person with a lot of interest and knowledge in her subject.
Best teacher I've ever had...ever. Easy, because she keeps it fresh and funny and spoon-feeds you exactly what she wants you to know for the tests...just take notes! Super-knowledgable, easy to listen to, thorough coverage of the material, and she makes it stick solidly in your gray matter. Take 2.1 and 2.2 if you get the chance!!!
She is a great teacher, she gives specific information on what she want done. She is very passionate in her teaching, you will learn a lot from her, I loved this class so much I’m taking art 2.2 next semester.
A wonderful teacher with a real passion for her subject. She knows what she's talking about and she'll make sure you do to by the end of class. Strongly recomended to everyone. show up, jot down a few notes and study a little for the tests. Really enjoyable!!!
She makes the class interesting, and really knows the subject. She encourages class participation. She gives study guides for the midterm and final. An art history journal is the only other project and you can make it as creative as you want as long as you include the few requirements she asks for. I highly recommend her class.
I absolutely LOVE this class. The tests challenge you but she provides you with all the information you'll need. She is clear, dependable, and very nice. I came in just wanting to take this class as a GE and now I hope to take many more of her classes.
Class was wonderful. She has a poetic way with words, and a charming english accent. The tests are reasonable and she offers extra credit. She is passionate for what she teaches and engages students all through her lessons.
Awesome class! But I'm really not a morning person, and felt terrible every time I fell asleep. It was 7:30am in a dark room! Anyway, her sweet English accent usually kept me awake. She is a great teacher and really cares about her students and her subject.
She is so awesome! I did not know a thing about art history before her class and now I seriously want to major in it! I went to Europe directly following her Renaissance to Modern class and I was so excited to see all of the things I learned about in class. It made my vacation so much more enhanced having the back story to it all! Love this class!
Have taken 2.3,& am going to take 2.2 with her.Easy course.Go to class STAY AWAKE & TAKE NOTES becuase if she said it,it will be on the test.2 midterms,1 paper,1 final.Offers EC & Gives a study guide with 20 possible slides but tests only 15.Memorize artist, location or period for each.Tip:use flashcards, one side for pic of slide, backside with info.
Class was okay, my only complaint is that I never even cracked the ridiculously overpriced book once all semester. Just use google to print out the pics from her study guide and study your notes.
Tests are so easy you don't even need to flashcard the paintings unless you have NO visual memory at all. The info she gives in lectures is more important than the art pieces themselves!!! Her tests have 'easy' trick ?s, attend class to get the answers, don't bother with the book. The project was easy.
Allison was one of the best teachers I've had. She really made the subject come to life. I have not looked at the world the same since. only 3 tests. No comprehensive final. The research paper took some degree of creativity.
Best teacher ever!
Great teacher! Really straight forward with everything she wants you to do and what will be on the tests. Make sure to take notes!!!! I didn't use the text book at all as long as you have good notes you dont need it
Wonderful accent! Even though I was already interested in taking this class, Alison really made me appreciate art more. Super easy class. 3 tests, no final, and one essay. Take notes on everything at the beginning and as things become repetitive just write down the basics. I didn't even have the book and I got a B. She's not bad on the ears either ;)
I had no interest in Art prior to taking this class. Hinnenberg made this class so enjoyable and understandable. Her lectures were at time drawn out, but overall she was great. The tests were easy if you took good notes. She literally told us exactly what we needed to know for the test (down to the vocabulary terms). Definitely take this class!
She is crystal clear but make no mistake she is very demanding academically.
Ms. Hinnenberg is an excellent teacher and I'm really enjoying her class (ART HIST 2.2). She's very clear about what you need to know for exams. Take good notes. She is very thorough in her knowledge of art and art history. This is an exciting and fun class to take, though I don't find it an "easy" class. Still, take it! :)
This class was fairly easy, just 3 exams, a project and the DHR requirement. As long as you pay attention in class or study you should easily pass this class.
Class is pretty easy, but incredibly boring if you're not into art. She gives a study guide with the names of images and their periods/locations, so all you need to do is pay attention in lecture and get all the details about those pictures and memorize them. Not hard really - just start studying early. Just go to class and use the study guide.
Her class isn't very hard but you need to show up and get all the notes and do some good studying before each test. I'm not into Art & I got an A and studied with flash-cards. She is a great teacher.
Very straight forward. Made it easy for you to get a good grade as long as you showed up and did all of the assignments. She really knew her stuff when it came to ancient civilizations. I didn't use the book at all though. No weekly homework only two big projects due towards the end of the year. Plus her english accent was pretty nice to listen to.
Great teacher. tells you exactly whats on the tests! Only one paper and art gallery. Great class
Alison is a great/awesome teacher all of her assignments are easy to follow. Three exams, the final is non-commulative, a art research report analysis, and a gallery packet. I'd definitely take her again!
Great teacher! Tells you exactly whats on the final and tests. only one paper and the art gallery packet. TAKE HER!
Her tests are tough. I took art before with Ostling and with Hinn you have to memorize a lot less but you have to know every detail about the piece! As long as you show up and REALLY take notes ull be okay. But this isn't as easy as a GE art class should be!
Took art hist 2.1. I'm now majoring in Art History because of her. She's great. Her accent can be confusing sometimes, but mostly it keeps you entertained. If you're awake for the classes, her tests are easy. She tells you the slides that are going to be shown. I'm taking her next semester for 2.2. Definitely recommend her.
Allison is a really great teacher. She makes it fun and she is extremely nice! Mostly lecture so you want to be there everyday because she will tell you little things that make there way on the test! Tests are pretty easy if you study the slides and all she wants is lots of detail on the essay paper...oh and I never used the book!
Love her! Before her class I was a lost graphic design major. Now, I'm at UC Berkeley majoring in Art History with a Western emphasis all because of her! Take her!
I took her years ago, and she's still my all time fave!! wonderful lady as well as a great teacher!!
Very easy class. Just show up, take notes, study the study guides and you will pass easily with an A. There is one paper and an art gallery packet which is all easy to do. She's British which makes class awesome because of her accent. Can get a bit boring at times, but extremely easy and you learn a lot.
Easy class as long as you attend class and keep up with the gallery packet. 3 tests which come straight from class lecture and some from the text book. Entire class is 3 tests, gallery packet, a 4 page research paper, and participation class. She makes the class interesting and fun to learn.
Don't have to be an art major, her class is a survey-style intro to art; I was 100% art-dumb before this class and I got an A. 3 tests based on lectures, 1 paper, 1 gallery project. She tells you what's on the test, but taking good notes EVERY class is CRUCIAL. Don't need to buy the book, just check it out in the library if you want extra reading.
She's a fantastic teacher and a really sweet lady. The class is really easy so long as you actually go and pay attention. I bought the textbook but you really don't need to. Definitely my favorite class and teacher so far at the JC. I had almost no interest in the subject before I took this class; now I'm considering majoring in Art History.
Pretty straightforward Art History class. Her lectures are clear and she preps you for tests so that there is NO WAY you could get less than a B if you just pay attention. She's nice, British, straight to the point, and has seen lots of the architecture in person, which is pretty cool.
Hinnenberg is straight forward and friendly if you approach her. I loved the class because a large part of the curriculum focuses on symbolism. If you pay attention and study a bit, this is an easy A.
Lovely teacher!! highly recommend based on her obvious love of her subject and helpful manner! Do the work, take time to study (i recommend a recorder) and you will be in the clear! Love her, she is fantastic especially in her choice of subjects.
I'm wasn't very interested in Art History until I took her class. I LOVED her class. Very informative and interesting, and she knows her stuff! She is willing to do everything she can to help her students, and keeps your interest in what she is lecturing about. I would definitely recommend this class!
A really fantastic teacher. Her lectures are enjoyable, and she does encourage participation but creates a very safe, fun, environment where everyone feels comfortable asking questionsgiving comments. Take a lot of notes and pay attention and you'll do well on her tests. She's very clear about her process what she expects from you.
Hinnenberg's a fantastic teacher with a lovely British accent which made 8:00am Art 2.2 a way better class then it otherwise could have been. She tells you everything you need to know just make sure to show up and take good notes and you'll get an A for sure!!!
Very sweet woman, loves her job and her students. Almost no homework assignments, and don't waste money getting the textbook, she doesn't test out of it. Tests are half multiple choice and you have know some seriously small details about the paintings. I wouldn't recommend this class for GE, studio art is much less tedious and there aren't tests.
Professor Hinnenberg is an awesome teacher! The lectures are so interesting and I am now considering majoring in Art History. There is only one paper due towards the end of the semester and 2 assignments in which you have to visit the school's art gallery but they are very easy. Study for tests and you're good to go!
She's so soft-spoken and well, British, that Allison comes off like a bit of a pushover. But she's not. She loves art, and she wants to teach you everything she can. It's not a job for her, and she's so honest about her opinions that it's wonderful. Also, her tests are great. But you don't need the book, just take GOOD notes on the lectures.
She is an incredible teacher. I missed a couple days, so she very kindly told me to meet her during her office hours and explained pretty much the whole lecture in a couple minutes. I was not really interested in art but she made me consider becoming an art major. She also has a great sense of humor and keeps the class entertained.
Alison was such a great teacher! She was very clear in what she expected from the students, and her lectures were exactly what she tested us on. She does mystery slides of paintings on the tests we haven't seen in the lectures but it taught me so much and I felt more confident after doing them. I would definitely take her class again!
She was a great professor. She wanted us to do well, and she set realistic expectations for what we were capable of succeeding. You can tell she is passionate about her subject. No homework other than tests and a paper. Lectures can be a little dry but she is a great professor. I'll miss her class. Just need to show up and take good notes.
There are three (not cumulative) quizzes and one six page paper in this class. Alison tells you everything that you need during lectures so if you take good notes you'll be fine. The book isn't required and she doesn't teach out of it
I really liked her, especially her accent! She clearly knows a lot about art and really cares about the subject. She has actually visited a lot of the places she teaches about, which makes her lectures more interesting. As long as you take decent notes and don't miss too many classes, its an easy A. I only got a B because I didn't study for tests.
Alison was super sweet! She really cared and was helpful. She said the text book was not mandatory but the tests were difficult so maybe the info is from the book. There was no homework, so your grade is only tests and a paper. Great teacher! She makes the boring subject of art history somewhat interesting.
Hinnenberg is a great teacher! This is a great class if you want to learn, she really knows her subject. The tests are not super easy but they're doable if you take clear notes. If you ditch a lot do not take this class, the tests are 100% based on lecture notes and she won't send the slides to you.
One of the best professors I've ever taken. She is a great story teller making lectures interesting and fun. Very fair with grading and super clear about what you need to know for exams. Especially loved her way of creating a safe environment to ask any questions and encouraged participation.
Alison is awesome! All of the test material is from the lectures, and she's nice about letting you know what information is most important for exams. So if you skip class, this isn't for you. She also really encourages participation and if no one does she gets frustrated. You're graded only on 3 exams and 1 paper and she has tons of extra credit!
Professor Hinnenberg is a total sweetheart & her class was an easy A. Lectures last the whole class, so make sure to take good notes. She tends to be bit dry at times, I'd fall asleep. She wants participation & expects you to know the terms. There are about 3 tests & one research paper due, which all are easy. Took her for 2.1 & did the same stuff.
She is such a sweet lady. Lectures are basically storytime but make sure you take notes. She tells you what you should know for the test so there's no reason why you should fail. Research paper isn't hard, no homework and she does offer some extra credit. Highly recommend if you have a heavy loaded semester and just need to get GE out of the way.
I love Ann!! she made me love art history. she really loves the subject and has such a passion for it. there is absolutely no homework and only one essay, which is pretty easy. Her tests are easy if you study. She gives you a list of images that will be on the test and picks only a handful from that list, so you know exactly what to study.
I LOVED Alison. She is very knowledgeable as she's seen most of these paintings in real life herself. She gives great in depth lectures about paintings from her slides and is humorous and very engaging. There's only one paper and the rest is based off of exams. I wouldn't recommend skipping, she is very caring and realistic!
She is a good teacher, I really enjoy the lectures.
