It is obvious that Professor Kreisler is passionate about the topics that we covered. Likes to focus on the physiological side of drugs and other substances. I really liked this class and learned a great deal. The tests were not that difficult and the assignments were interesting. Professor Kreisler did seem a little intimidating.
tough material, and she covers it so fast in lecture. expects you to read all material outside of class, and then provides a brief overview in class. does answer questions though. she clearly loves her topic, but it's tough and she doesn't always focus in on the hard stuff. doesnt provide lecture slides. open note tests and easy paper assignments
This is a tough course regardless of who you take it with. Alison grew on me over the semester, but she isn't the most approachable which makes it hard to ask for help. She is fair, and knows what she is talking about. I just wish she was more approachable for the sake of getting more help.
This class was easier than I was expecting, but still very hard. Professor Kreisler was very helpful most of the time with all of the difficult assignments. She was also cool when I just wanted to watch the sheep brain dissection instead of actually dissecting. Overall, she is a great lecturer and makes these topics super interesting!
my favorite professor. I took bio psych with her and it was a little tough, but I tried her out again, and I'm glad I did. She is so knowledgeable about this topic. Lots of reading, posts slides online. Responsive, understanding, and helpful inside and out of class. Material isn't necessarily easy, but she makes it fun and breaks it down.
She really knows the material. I learned so much from her but it was also the hardest class Ive ever taken. The tests were pretty much all short answer, but if you work hard and talk to her during office hours youll do fine.
Professor Kreisler is a tough grader but she is a really good teacher. Overall she makes lectures interesting and easy to pay attention to. She can be vague with directions but explains lectures very well.
This is a really hard class for online school. If you're taking other classes you may have to take classes with a lighter work load, because most of your attention will need to be directed to this class. The tests are mostly short answer. The readings are heavy, don't use e-texts, because she will list the page numbers.
Biopsychology is a one of the more difficult psychology classes
Biopsychology is one of the harder psychology classes. Kreisler knows her stuff though. You have to do the readings and it might take you a while to get the material down. Go to SI!
Biopsycholgy is a hard class but Professor Kreisler is good. She gives lecture outlines and quizzes. Is a tough grader and tests are hard. Be prepared to work!
exams are written and you have to make sure you write down what she wants you to write, hard grader, no multiple choice. Only good thing was that their was no group work.
Great professor, kinda rude but knows how to teach her class. she dont do multiple choice, t/f or matching in the exam, only written exam. two 1/2 page reports. lots of reading so yea... you should get all the books. you miss class? you fall way behind. she dont do ppt with info that you can read. you need to keep up with what she lectures.
Professor Kreisler is a really great choice for those who are not great at multiple choice and memorization, but do well explaining things with words. I had a really easy time in this class, it isn't too hard if you really take great notes on both the lectures and the assigned textbook readings. Exams are simple if you've prepared with the textbook
Please take Professor Kreisler for biopsychology! This class is very hard in nature, but Kreisler is so amazing at teaching difficult material. You HAVE to do the readings. This course is very time demanding but very rewarding because I learned SO much. Her lectures are so interesting! She is a tough grader, but because she wants you to learn!
Dr. Kreisler is a really good professor, she definitely makes you work for you grade no doubt about it. Not very accommodating, so any excuse you bring to her will not do. She does generously give an extra point on exams, but not to the point where it boost your grade. Lectures are not available outside of class. Handwritten notes are only allowed.
dont take this professor if you want to pass the class. She is extremely rude and does not care about students concerns. she dooesnt give extra credit and her tests are hard. get ready to read because she will have you reading 3-5 chapters a week. theres 2 papers that were 2pgs and easy to write.
No powerpoints, she just lectures from her "outline" that is only provided in the first 5 min of class. Come in late and you miss out. Lecture flies by and she doesnt like to repeat herself. Must read 2 to 3 ch per week. Quizzes every class, 5 questions and only 5 min to complete! Not many qs allowed during class, which is beyond disappointing.
To sum up Kreisler's class: 5 min. for a 5 question quiz(every class- worth 5 pts) at the end of a lecture she just flew thru and had only just given the outline for it in the beg of class sucks! Its extremely telling of her teaching method. I think she enjoys the power of her structure and doesnt care about wanting her class to learn the material
Kreisler does not assign hw, just a ton of reading. Open notes/book on quizzes and exam, but if you do not know how the material, they are useless. Limited questions allowed during classtime due to time. Quizzes after every lecture worth 5 points. Super demanding class. Her lectures are mediocre, so be ready to teach yourself!
Literally, don't even waste your time taking a different class, this class is extremely hard I tried to give her a chance and see what it was about but it ended being a complete waste of time. She has absolutely no sympathy for her students its almost as if she's trying to help you failing instead of succeed. Please just beware shes horrible.
Dr. Kreisler gives good lectures but be prepared to teach yourself. SI sessions (tutoring) helps, go if you can. She assigns a lot of readings. I would not buy the book "The Moral Animal," try to save yourself some money. There are 2 short papers, a lot of quizzes (every lecture), 4 exams, and an optional cumulative final to help boost your grade.
Kreisler wastes no time, she is not your friend she is your professor. But I would definitely take her again. She really knows the material and WANTS you to pass but she wont take excuses. Very available outside of class and is actually a very warm person. Make no mistake, this class is very difficult, do the readings and take the time to study.
Such a great professor. She explains things extremely well with analogies and examples. Her tests are very hard but are open note and book with no surprises. If you attend every class and pay attention during lectures you will learn a TON and do well in the class.
Professor Kreisler was an overall amazing professor. The negative reviews about professor kreisler are completely uneccessary. Biopsyc is very difficult regardless of what professor you take it with. The class itself is extremely hard and requires you to put in the time and the work in order to successfully pass the class. great professor though!
Dr. K teaches biopsyc very well. This class is extremely difficult in general, so dont expect to pass w/o putting in the time and effort! Dr K gives great study tips in her syllabus that you should consider implementing. 4 exams, 2 journal article reviews & a quiz after every lecture. Rent/buy ALL the books & make sure to do the readings!
Great professor! She lectures very well and gives an outline of the lectures in the beginning of every class. Make sure you take great notes since you can use them on the quizzes & exams. I honestly did not do ANY of the readings and still excelled on my quizzes and exams thanks to my notes + the weekly SI sessions (highly recommend going to those)
All that matters is attending lecture and taking notes. PSYC 360 sounds very intimidating but making it to lecture every time is the most important factor in passing. Kreisler does not allow you to type any notes so everything is handwritten, but everything is also open note. Lastly she requires everything to be printed so that part is annoying.
Dr. K will make you a better student. First half of the semester you're doing biopsych review, group lab assignments, and one exam. Second half, you are writing your research proposal (most of the work is done during class time). The class will challenge you and make you question yourself often, but you will learn SO MUCH and be proud of your work.
I ended up liking her biopsyc class so much, I took her lab. Prof K is a terrific educator! everything is clear-cut. I was worried about the proposal paper but its broken up into easy digestible chunks. Most of the work can be done in class. Two words to describe her: warm and merciless! Very challenging class, but still makes you a better student
Beware! I do not recommend Kreisler.
Dr. Kreisler is really smart and very helpful, passionate about the subject, but be forewarned, the class is EXTREMELY difficult and she is not an easy grader. Take her advice with a grain of salt because she can be very condescending and rude at times. DONT ask questions that are outlined somewhere else, she'll look at you like your stupid.
Very hard class. She lectures so fast it's almost impossible to keep up.
This class is notoriously difficult but Prof. Kreisler is the best professor to take it with. Grading on tests she was tough hard but going to her office hours was my saving grace in the class. Whoever you take PSYC360 with, make sure your other courses are easier. MUSTS TO PASS: attendance, thorough notes, office hours, studying & SI sessions.
Very strict about attendance. Harsh grader. Made a few people cry due to her all around strict policies and tough grading. If you like a challenge and are a hard worker this is a good class for you.
From what I heard about Kreisler, I was expecting this lab to be very hard but it was much easier than expected. 4 labs, 2 exams, 2 mini assignments, 5 quizzes, & a group project. She lectures fast and is rude when answering "obvious questions", but I was expecting that. Attend every class! She plays favorites for people who do things her way.
I LOVED Dr. K's biopsych lectures. Her exams are tough but open book/notes. DO YOUR READING. Take notes. Watch Crash Course videos on YouTube to understand concepts like action potential. I was so intrigued by her lectures, I wish I got to take more neuroscience courses. I learned so much, but the course is very time-intensive - plan accordingly.
PSYC 360 is a hard class, the University makes it this hard on purpose. Professor Kreisler does her absolute best to ensure you pass. She has lecture outlines on the slides before class starts so make sure to get there 15 minutes early every class. She gives a quiz at the end of every lecture. 22 quizzes, 4 exams, 2 JARS. GO TO THE SI SESSIONS!!
I would give a zero if I could. Probably the worst professor I have had in my life. She literally told me that my grade was a reflection of my intelligence, and that I was wasting my time in school. She shattered my confidence and I still have not recovered. Do yourself a favor, and literally pick any other professor besides her!
Not the environment I want to be in to succeed. She makes it very stressful to pass and hard to learn. She treats students like children and does not listen when someone complains about a problem happening she does not care if everyone is failing. Very unsupportive teacher. I have never had a hard time in a class like I did in her's.
You can succeed despite the professor who has an attitude matching a Ferrari, yet the ability of a Volkswagen. Difficult to understand, arrogant w/o reason, sees herself as a kingmaker for psychology. Classic case of why one should never give authority to a scorned individual. Self teach, and learn the wrong answers she thinks are right.
Worst professor I have ever had!! She's unhelpful, won't answer emails, gives confusing directions and clearly doesn't care about her students. She literally made people cry during class.
One of the realest! Doesn't sugarcoat anything. Gives clear and honest feedback. Be prepared to do a lot of studying on your own time. Read all the necessary readings and videos she provides!! This course will challenge you (you want that!)Lots of lectures/labs, one big exam. One research proposal project. If you failed to prepare, prepare to fail!
Only giving a review because the latest one I read here that sounds like the teacher, herself. She is not respectful, she does attempt to humiliate her students. Someone should check up on her credentials.
Don't recommended! I'm a student who has been smart all my life but this teacher makes this class harder than its supposed to be. I'm wondering how she even got qualified to teach. She expects the book to teach us everything then gets mad when most of the students end up failing her test. Please take someone else!
The only good thing is she's accessible outside of class. She micromanages and is controlling. Labs were stressful as we often had no idea what to do and were terrified to ask questions. She's dismissive when speaking to students and assumes you are lazy or dumb just for asking a ?. Very disorganized flow of class which made it even more stressful.
Worst professor I've ever had. She clearly plays favorites and creates a hostile environment for anyone who's struggling. Asking questions leads to sarcastic or condescending responses. Felt like a humiliation ritual every time I asked a question. She picks on students who fall behind. Extremely arrogant. Literally take anyone but her.
Teacher is very good at instructing and the class itself is very interesting. Only complaints are that she isn't great at outlining expectations or the rigor of this course. This class is hard. Do not take it if you cannot come to every class. Be ready to put time and effort in. Teacher is understanding but do not bank on that to pass.
This professor should have never been hired in the first place. She is extremely condensing and arrogant towards students to the point where it makes the whole vibe in the room awkward and uncomfortable. Please save yourself the headache and avoid this professor at all costs.
I actually had her for summer 361, she wasn't that bad to be honest. She is a little awkward but I wouldn't say mean. She is very firm and sometimes it did seem a bit much but if you do the work you should get a B! Tests are hard, film reviews and quizzes are easy! Not as daunting as other reviews made it seem and I don't really like the brain. :)
Interesting material, but the professor lacked enthusiasm and empathy. Often cold and impatient when students asked questions. Rubrics and expectations were unclear, especially for the final presentation. Felt disappointed by the grading and lack of guidance. Overall, not a supportive experience.
Wouldn't take her again. The content is clear but the exam questions are often vague and are left up for interpretation. She doesn't allow for you to add much insight beyond what she tells you and you will end up being “wrong” if it's not something she said in class. Very harsh grade in the final project and no explanation or rubric as to why.
Someone gave a Ferrari ex here Yup she can be an a/h. Lacks empathy. She will not provide her class lectures slides. She will not provide a study guide! It's your fault if you studied differently than how she would expected you to do so. You're expected to dissect what she says to understand it better. She really needs more presentation experience…
It's hard to know where to begin because it feels like everyone's already expressed what we're all thinking. But honestly, Kreisler might just be the worst teacher at San Marcos. There's no competition. Whether it's the complete lack of feedback, or just the general feeling that she hates the students in the class, it's frustrating on every level.
Honestly this is not a very complicated case. Is she a competent teacher? Absolutely not! It is not just that she can't teach the material, but she doesn't know it herself. Does she have a horrible reputation at this point? Without a doubt! Most people I know despise her. Should she consider literally anything else as a career? One would hope so!
Not the best prof out there. Don't be asking questions that YoU sHoUlD aLrEaDy KnOw or else she will put you on the spot. Do not come near her desk or walk from the door behind her cause she will put you on the spot. The class wasn't designed for the student to win. No study guide no lecture slides. The only thing you can win on are the quizzes.
Worst Professor ever (popular opinion) & totally inappropriate & unprofessional. Hates being wrong and attempted to pick on a student during their presentations. It is tough watching a professional conduct themselves so antagonistically. All I gotta say is yikes!!!
Uhg! All the reviews from July 3rd-12th are about a 5 week summer course but this prof definitely made it harder than it had to be. Unclear Grading Criteria. Questions completely different from what was on the quizzes going to the test as prof says the test grade needs to be earned. If you study/read outside of class you're fine. Everyone else run!
Alison Kreisler is a racially motivated and blindly delusional against minority students and should definitely be fired from her position.
do not take this prof if u know what's good for u... she's lowkey incompetent and rude
Came for neuroscience, stayed for the psychological trauma. Lectures felt like deciphering ancient hieroglyphs with a blindfold- on fire. If sarcasm were a grading metric, this prof would finally give out an A. Still recovering...emotionally.
White students: sunshine & rainbows. Brown students: academic landmines. Her grading scale seems fueled by personal vendettas and racial bias. Harvard Biochem wishes it was this brutal. Truly a masterclass in institutional failure.
If group projects were a hostage situation: This prof is the negotiator who forgets the demands. Assignments? Randomly yeeted into the void. Syllabus? A cryptic. Emails? Deleted upon arrival. Left every class with existential dread and a Notes app rant. Save your sanity and SWERVE.
This woman's ego: Bigger than his syllabus. She replies to emails like a Twitter bot. Asked for help? Got "build thick skin!" (translation: endure my weirdo toxicity). Psychologist who hates humans? Ironic. Left feeling spiritually violated. Do not interact.
Day one, she handed us a syllabus that looked like the Dead Sea Scrolls. I swear it had footnotes referencing other syllabi. By week three, I realized the syllabus wasn't just a guide, it was a psychological endurance test. Final grade: somewhere between ‘character development arc' and ‘trauma bonding.'”
Her lectures are like marathons where you didn't train, didn't sign up, and somehow still ended up running. The sheer spectacle of watching her power through dense material with the confidence of someone who believes she invented the field is oddly mesmerizing. You sit there, scribbling notes hoping one of them will be useful in the exam. Skip.
Office hours are like stepping into an alternate dimension. You go in with a simple question, like ‘Can you explain this assignment?' and leave with a lecture on the philosophy of grading, the futility of shortcuts, and a reminder that resilience is the true learning outcome. It's less Q&A, more existential boot camp.
This year I was excited for the class but after 2 weeks I was not happy to attend that class whatsoever. First off I had a medical emergency and was in the hospital for 2 weeks. I did my work for other classes but when I emailed Prof.K she told me there was nothing she can do for me so once I came back there was no way for me to pass this class
She presents herself as an authority, but instead of guiding students, she enjoys making the material unnecessarily complicated. Asking questions in class is intimidating because she often responds in a way that makes you feel small or foolish. I walked away from this course with more stress than knowledge, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone
Not a good professor. She isn't clear when teaching, only posts vague outlines, is rude when answering questions, grades very harshly with negative feedback, and gives last-minute extra credit. Overall, the class is stressful—choose someone else if possible.
If you're hoping for a professor who inspires you, this ain't it. She is rigid, unapproachable, and discouraging. Even when you try to engage, it feels like she's more interested in asserting authority than fostering discussion. I've had tough professors before, but this class felt like punishment. I wouldn't recommend unless you enjoy suffering
Class was a nightmare from start to finish. Workload is overwhelming, grading is excessively harsh, and exams are designed to fail. She doesn't care whether students actually learn. It's about maintaining control and proving how difficult she can make the course. Lectures are dense and uninspiring, interactions often feel cold or condescending.
She would not help out when I was struggling and was a terrible grader.
Lectures are dry, overloaded with information, and delivered badly. Exams are brutal and they don't reflect the big ideas she talks about but instead focus on tiny, nitpicky details buried in the readings. Going to office hours doesn't help much either. Instead of clarifying, she tends to lecture you about how you should already know the answer.
The professor shows no mercy if you miss class for valid reasons. Lectures are uninspiring and very technical for a course intended for non-Psychology majors. Exams were extremely difficult, as most of the questions were based on what she said in lecture at a specific time; they were not covered in the slides or the book. Avoid her class if you can
If you want to take this class, please know that this professor will test your knowledge to the limits. You will have to read the textbook, and that is how you will learn everything that she lectures on. While her lectures do talk about the concepts, they're only at the base level. Make sure you prepare enough for the exams and go to SI too.
She doesn't create an environment where students feel comfortable. It just feels like she's waiting for someone to slip so she can point it out. Her grading is unforgiving, and even when you put in the effort, it feels like nothing is ever good enough. I left this class feeling drained, frustrated, and questioning why I even bothered.
pretty easy class for credits needed, 5 point/question quiz, 5 reflections on movies, and 3 exams. everything is open note so it's pretty hard to fail. professor drops one reflection and 3 quizzes. one presentation you can opt out of to get 10/20 points. legit hard to fail. just lectured are a little boring
Honestly, this was one of the most uncomfortable classroom environments I've experienced. Imagine being trapped in a room with someone who thinks they're the smartest person alive, and they're not shy about reminding you every five minutes. Clearly has a disdain for the dark-hued students. All I can say is, abandon hope, all ye who enter here.
She is organized, sure, but more like a prison warden is organized. Everything is neat, structured, and soul-crushing. If you are late, unprepared, approach her, or even dare to blink too long during her boring lectures, she will just look at you like you just committed a felony. Hard pass!!!!
She is not friendly in the slightest and in no way provides an environment where people feel comfortable in her class. If you try to ask a question there is a good chance she will answer you like you're dumb. Show up, do the work and you'll pass. Her exams are full of weird slippery questions so you'll have to show up to lecture
If Dante had enrolled at CSUSM, he would've definitely skipped writing The Divine Comedy and just handed in Alison Kreisler's syllabus. Every week felt like descending into a new circle of hell. Quizzes that mocked your existence, lectures that drained your soul, and exams that were less about biopsychology and more about psychological warfare.
The best thing about this class is finally being done with it. My GPA definitely didn't improve, but at least my nightmares did. If you've ever wondered what it's like to meet the devil in a cardigan, Alison Kreisler is your chance.
Don't expect help during office hours. She doesn't answer questions directly; she makes you feel like you should already know the answer, and if you don't, that's your problem. I left her office once more confused than when I entered, and somehow also guilty, like I'd committed a crime against biopsychology.
The single worst professor I have ever had and I don't say this lightly. Since I started college, I genuinely loved learning in all my classes, until I met Alison Kreisler. She is insufferable, rude, and thinks she's the center of the universe. Don't take her unless you're ready to be treated like you're lower than dirt.
I've never had a professor make me dread going to class like this. Attendance is mandatory, participation is mandatory, and even then, she acts annoyed when you ask her any questions. The lectures are long and dry, and the exams feel like they're from a completely different class. You'll be better off avoiding her.
I mean, what can I say that others haven't already. This class honestly felt like punishment. Kreisler assigns so many written tests and then grades them like she's reviewing a PhD dissertation. I'm a good student and still felt lost half the time. If you value your GPA, avoid any of her classes.
