Excellent teacher. Kind, helpful, interesting. One of the few professors with "real life experience" that also knows how to teach. Enjoyed her class immensely and learned a great deal, however, don't take it if you don't want to write. If you enjoy writing, then it's for you.

I was taking Publicity workshop from her. she is really helpful and understanding. sometimes makes us do very easy stuff but she is cool.

By far my favorite professor I've ever had. Had her for two classes.. Magazine Journalism and Publicity Workshop. Very helpful, kind, and personable. Work was easy and sometimes fun, especially if you aspire to work in magazines. Highly recommend her!

Ok so i thought the class was so hard..she told us at the beginning of the semester that the average grade was a c...and thats what I got..so boring too and the final project is very big grade wise if u need an a dont take it

The woman has all of the qualities you look for in a professor. Gets to know your name, makes you think, classy, had interesting speakers come and meet with us... I think that the bulk of her grading stems from how you perform on the final project. If you're passionate about your magazine, you will do great in her class. Love her!

I had her for fashion journalism and am now about to take her for Mag Journalism. Every FIT student interested in getting into publishing of any kind should take Professor Leopold. She is tough and she will assign alottttt of work but she is totally worth it! I learned so much from her. She brought in editors from big mags to talk to us.

I had prof leopold for journalism AC141 and got a C+, which was disappointing. Regardless of my grade I learned so much from her. Then I took her fashion journalism class and got a B+. The class was so much work but so worth it. She takes her time to edit everything, in order to help you build a portfolio. BEST PROFESSOR!!!!

Professor Leopold is a very nice lady, and is willing to help you at any time. Her class is alot of writting and you are to have a writting assignment due for each class. If you dont maintain her journalistic advice throughout the class and do not show it on your paper, she will "torture" your paper word by word. The exams were the hardestpartofcla

Professor Leopold is a tough cookie, hard grader, lot of writing in the class, but specific and will go out of her way to help you. Just follow her guidelines and write the way she tells you to and you will not have a problem. She's really enthusiastic and doesn't just give you material from the book. She teaches in an interesting and exciting way.

This is the professor you want for Journalism, most definitely. I didn't feel as though she was that harsh of a grader--very fair. Besides, she was interesting, enthusiastic, and went above and beyond simply reading off the textbook. You might actually learn here if you don't slack off.

She's really into teaching, lots of valuable experience. Writing is important, so if you can't write don't take the class because you will fail. If you can though, then she will be a great professor for you. Overall not a professor to pass up.

A really smart and helpful teacher. A hell of a lot of writing, which I don't enjoy. She as a person made this class bearable for me. She grades people based on effort. So my grades ranged from A through C+ throughout the semester, but I worked hard, did extra cred, participated in discussions,and to my surprise, I got an A. Just do your work!

Yes, she is a hard but fair grader but that is only because she has such a vast amount of real world experience that she knows what's right and wrong. And it is that knowledge that makes her an incredible teacher. Look, if you do the work, go to class, go to her when you're struggling then she can be your best friend. I enjoyed her and her class!!

This is the professor you want to take for Journalism. She's serious, hands-on, and brings real world experience. Her lectures are always interesting and she delivers them lively and hilariously. Participation is essential and mostly fun. She creates a really intimate atmosphere and manages to cover the fundamentals fully. Yes, lots of writing too!

You will get a grade for half of your effort but it's sure that you will learn the most you've ever learned in other classes.

If you're serious about any kind of journalism I'd highly recommend taking her because you'll learn about how to really hone your writing. Tests can be tough and she grades assignments pretty thoroughly but going to her office hours helps ALOT. The final project is rough in comparison to a lot of other AMC courses, but can be fun and rewarding.

I LOVED this woman. She is nice, funny, intelligent, and inspirational. Very full of knowledge and gives quite a few assignments but they are fitting. Learned a lot about journalism and life in this class. Would definitely 100% take her again.

I have had Prof. Leopold twice and I love everything about her. My writing has not only gotten stronger, but I enjoy it more. She is not only an expert in her field, but more importantly, knows how to teach. A great professor and a great mentor!

She is a great professor that is very passionate about teaching. She gives tons and tons of extra credit that goes towards your midterm and final. No test just those two and assignments. She also gives your the option to redo your assignment if you haven't done a good job. Very hands on, shows you exactly what you need to know. Don't buy the book

I personally didn't prefer her. I thought she was very pretenious (she made sure we knew about her vast amount of industry experience). She's a hard grader and expects a lot from you. However, she's passionate about journalism and just wants you to do your best. She has good intentions, but take someone else if you can.

I learned so much from Professor Leopold. Her lectures are a little long, but she's clear about things she wants you to know for exams and stuff. She's very passionate about Journalism, and she's extremely kind and funny. Her tests are long and very detailed, but in the end I came out knowing a lot more about the industry.

Prof. Leopold has a lot of experience in the field of Journalism, so she does offer good feedback. She's sort of a no nonsense type of professor, so you really have to put effort into your work and at least pretend to care. She makes a lot of notes on your papers, which looks scary at first, but they are really helpful to the students!

My favorite teacher ever I would take her every semester if i could. She is so knowledgeable about journalism and fashion( being a former Vogue editor/author. My writing has improved dramatically since taking 141 and Fashion journalism. She is very helpful. My only advice is Write then rewrite and write again your paper will be bleeding edits!!!

Professor Leopold is easily my favorite professor at FIT. I have taken her twice and would take her again and again if I could. I have learned so much about journalism as well as fashion from her. She was at Vogue when Anna Wintour came in, and knows everything about the fashion journalism world, she will edit your papers a lot, but you will learn.

Easily one of the best professors I've had at FIT. Her knowledge stacks upto ten people put together, and she's really helpful. I learnt more than I thought I would. Your writing will improve A LOT. Would take again.

There's this common misconception that all hard professors are bad professors. Prof Leopold really breaks this barrier because although she's very tough with assignments and grading, she really teaches you everything you need to know about Journalism. I recommend taking her, just be prepared for a lot of quizzes and in-depth written assignments.

Don't freak if you get her I thought I was going to fail and I got an A-. There are quizzes every week on the reading but sometimes she skips a week or two. She gives plenty of extra credit and options to redo assignments. She gives an option to get up to 5 extra points on tests. She's understanding and wants you to do well. She's tough but its ok.

Leopold is really tough, but you will learn more than any other class. This is a writing class so if you cannot write don't take it. The lectures are very informative but you need to do the readings. She will help you more and be lenient if you participate and show effort. Great stories, I want to be her best friend.

Super knowledgeable. Her standards are very high. Follow the feedback. Stay after class to talk, even if its just current events, and she will likely boost your grade from a B+ to and A-. If you make the same mistake twice, it will be worse the next time. Try to do the extra credit stuff. Tiny details become big issues in the writing.

Most experienced professor for journalism and writing. She definitely has high standards, but take advantage of the office hours and extra credit and she will boost you for effort. There are a lot of assignments, but also a lot of chances to get a better grade. Not an easy class, but if you do well you will feel like you really earned it.

Professor Leopold is very professional and has many years of experience as an establish journalist. She is a tough teacher in that she wants and expects quality work that shows improvement and effort. She gives good feedback and I feel like a better writer after taking her class.

Make sure to read emails she sends, often they include instructions to respond and you get an extra point. There is a lot of writing, but she will review before hand if you go to office hours. Also just go to office hours anyway to discuss the lecture even if you understood it. Do the extra credit at least twice. Make sure she knows who you are.

I personally loved her class and her personality. The papers she assigns are not difficult, but it's the editing and the wording that she cares about the most. It has to be as close to a professional editorial as possible. All in all, I loved the class and although the papers stressed me out a bit, I learned to become a better writer in the process

Leopold isn't there to be your friend, but if you have an interest in truly learning about writing and journalism from an industry expert, take her. She will vastly improve your writing ability if you put in the work and make an effort to engage with the subject. She cares about her work and will push you to produce the best work you possibly can.

Leopold is an amazing professor. She will push you to produce your best work. The workload is fierce. There are writing assignments due each week and you are expected to be working on your feature articles outside of class. Use her office hours/email her if you have questions, the sooner the better. She's very willing to help.

Tests and quizzes are based a lot on the textbook so dont just use lecture notes. Theres lots of writing since its journalism, but shell work with your draft to get it ready for submission. Do the extra credit. Extended deadlines during covid

She's a super tough grader. Even if you're a good writer, you'll never exceed her standards. Be prepared for failure, no matter how good you think you are. Despite all this, she's accessible outside of class. She's prepared to help you if you show her that you're ready to work hard.

If you're serious about writing, this class is A GIFT! She knows everything you need to know and shares it in a professional yet caring manner. Top-notch professor, one of the best teachers I've ever had. If you're not serious about being a writer, don't waste the time of this teacher or her students. I consider this a Master Class.

Extremely beneficial with a major takeaway, with that being said you do have to put in work to do well-- meet her, she gives a lot of extra credit. She lays out her expectations-- my advice would be once class starts take notes of EVERYTHING she says. Go to her office hours at the start of the semester meet her & interact in her class, hard work!

If you do not want to be a journalist do not take this with her. She is a very good teacher but you will only like this class if you want to go into journalism because of the amount of work and how strict she is in grading. If you have 5+ classes do not take this with her. Do the extra credits as much as you can and be prepared have hw every week

was scared to take her class because of the reviews on here but I would 100% take her again. If you have an interest in journalism and are responsible about your work (LISTEN in class), you will be fine. My class was great with her because we all participated. Do not take this class if you're a slacker - she will help you if you show effort.
