all around horrible experience
The longest class in history, bad tests, just bad....
The hardest class ever, I worked so hard and only earned a C-!!!!!
Probably the worst class I've ever had. Lewin tries to act nice and like she cares, but she has a heart of ice and is fake. Take anyone for Western Civ. besides her and maybe you'll even enjoy it!
We got 14" of snow in Philly and when I called to ask if we're having class she said, "Why not?" Why do you intentionally make learning Western Civ. hard ALISON LEWIN.
Not quite as bad as others would have you think, though she can be quite abrasive if you aren't ready for it.
I want to marry this woman! She is one of the best professors on the planet!
She's great, you just need to write a lot. Best part, NO BIG PAPERS. All you write is a one page review once a week.
She is a very nice lady face to face, the only problem I have with her is she is enormously srtict with paper writing, as in she takes off points for typos. Tests are tough, and she tears you apart on the weekly papers.
DO NOT TAKE HER! Expects you to devote your life to her class and is extremely difficult, loves history but take someone that will make doing school work rewarding, she gives bad graades willingly!!!
She is the worst teacher ive ever had
She is such a hard teacher. Its the only class I hate, and I love history. Weekly readings will punch you in the gut, and then laugh at you.
dropped her with a quickness, took a GER class way too seriously. Weekly papers are for high school. And she dressed like she had a closet full of window drapes
amen to the drapes. she's hard as hell. take 4 classes before you decide to take her
I hope alison lewin finds this website and reads her reviews. Therefore, if you are alison lewin, I hope you're looking at your horrible reviews. They are all correct. Withdrew within 2 weeks.
I love AWL. She's my favorite teacher to date. Yeah, she's a little tough, but for anyone with a shred of intelligence, this is less a drawback and more of an incentive to do better. I never got below an A-. This is college, kids. It's gonna be tough!!!
Yes, AWL is tough and demanding. But she's an incredibly encouraging professor, as well as brilliant and interesting. Other posters don't realize it, but she really strives for growth in her students. Expect her to be tough, but you can get A LOT from her
yes, she is hard. if you actually want to take something worthwhile, take her. she will make you work, and you may curse her for it, but she isnt unfair and will help you. everyone needs a challenge in their life, and it happens to be her
TheworstprofI'vehad!Tells college students that her young daughter is smarter than them. Has no personality and has no rhyme or reason to her grading system. Avoid this woman like the plague! I can't believe the university actually still employs her.
so much reading, but very nice and def knows her stuff. she's very approachable and helped me out alot.
This seminar was awful. I had it first thing in the morning, we had to read over 200 pages a week and write a paper on it as well. topic was boring and it is her fault because she designed the course. true, she is very bright, but topic was lame
She gives an amazing amount of work. Almost 300 pages a week but if you learn how to cheat your way through the reading you will do fine.My grades so far are 3 B-'s but she is a women who is extremely helpful and somewhat interesting.I can't say I enjoy her class but she is hard !
Hard. But guess what, I learned a huge amount and my writing is much improved. I would recomend her to anyone looking to improve thier writting skills.
Stop with the it's supposed to be tough nonsense. She's a horrible teacher. It's a GER class, not a Phd progam. The fact that she still has a job at SJU is crazy. SJU should be ashamed of themselves.
Stop with the "GERs are supposed to be easy" junk...a prof has the right to make a course as hard as he or she wishes. Its up to students to do their research about profs before signing up for a course. This isn't rocket science.
Not a breeze class but it is intersting. She adds things to class to make it fun. Weird sense of humor but my writing is much better and I learned a ton.
AWL is not that bad, she will help you in any way possible to make sure that you do well. Its a lot of reading and work, but at the end you wil be better for it. A brilliant teacher
Hard work pays off in this class. Are you here to learn or are you here to drink???? AWL is passionate about her subject.
I cant believe how ridiculous this class is - its an intro GER and she treats it like a PhD. I went to her numerous times for help and got nothing in return. The entire class is failing and she says its us - not her. I've never had such an unreasonable teacher in my life!
After reading the comments you can kind of get a sense of the weirdos who like Lewin are the people who "like challenging professors". I just graduated and it stands, Alison Lewin and Peter Clark were my hardest professors at SJU.
if you dont know how to write dont take her classes, if you dont like to write dont take her classes. she is extreamly hard in the grading department but her classes are ultimately rewarding in the end. oh and if you take her twice she'll grade you harder the second time around.
hard, but helpful. you'll learn alot. i'd recomend to any history major. others will find her too hard and unreasonable. history majors will find her just right.
She is a really hard grader. Laughs at herself. Very unclear. I don't recommend her at all for western civilization.
absolutely horrible. she's a nice woman, but as a teacher, she sucks. Her tests are absolutely impossible and i wouldn't reccommend her to ANYONE.
She's impossible. Teaches as if you were going for you Ph.D. She's literally insane. Hardest teacher of my life. She loves failing people
Very good teacher. Coming into college, I thought my writing was so great. She taught me otherwise. Really gets involved with the subject, which makes her a better teacher. She has also improved my writing skills drastically. I would recommend her to just about anyone.
A horrible lecture class with impossible grading and an unreasonable amount of material. Two tests and a final plus weekly 1-2 pg paper on Sources book. An all-around horrible class with for a horrible subject.
Excellent professor. If you just want to sit around and never do work, then this isn't the class for you. She makes you work, but its def. worth it in the end. The weekly papers are pretty easy, and she gives a lot of feedback. Midterm and final are take-home papers, and if you actually tried with the weekly papers, they are exremely easy.
I do not reccomend Lewin for anyone who is satisfied with a C. She's a nice lady, but her expectations are ridiculous. I studied a lot for this class and it didn't seem to help because the 2 exams she gives you are at least 60% essays that are tough.
read a chapter and write a 1-2 pg paper per week, and really these are not that difficult if you just sit and do it. lewin is very clear and ENTHUSIASTIC!!! her enthusiasm whether it rubs off on you or not is great because by the end of a lesson you understand.
shes evil. the weekly papers are annoying, and you never look forward to class. does make you work hard - very hard. at 9 AM its the last thing you wanna be doing. shes a little crazy and has this weird laugh that sounds like shes cant breathe. average grade is a c. 2 tests plus final. tests are timelines, fill in blanks and ESSAYS. avoid her.
Professor Lewin is nice. However, she is an almost impossible teacher. Her expectations are way too high and she is a definite GPA killer. I've never seen anyone in the class get an A, even when she thinks that you have turned in quality work. Do not take her if you can help it. If you can't avoid her class, good luck!
really hard, crazy laugh, not fun at 9AM. definitely wouldnt ever recommend her
Yes, she is really difficult. Yes, her expectations are probably a bit too high. The sad thing is though, St. Joe's students are just so apathetic and (dare I say it) stupid that they think professors/classes shouldn't be difficult in college. Get over yourselves and grow up.
I really hated this teacher and this class...she made me cry on numerous occasions.Never looed foward to class plus tried sooo hard and never got above a C- expectations- you need to want to be a history major if you take this class..Class took time off of classes that were for my major and its just a GER. Hated it!

The workload is incredible, about 2-3 papers for week, and she is very strict about their punctuality and attendence. HOWEVER - a great teacher. I have found myself talking to friends and adding historical trivia, and I'm a philosophy and poli sci major, so her teachings have really helped me support my arguments. Great class if you like to write.

She does give 2-3 papers every week and with both those and the larger writing assignments, the # of sources she requires is excessive. Hell, the amount of writing is unreasonably excessive. However, she's very helpful and enthusiastic. She WANTS you to learn. If you are VERY into writing, this will train you. If not, it can be a nightmare.
Disgusting amount of writing - basically a new paper was due each class. Probably one of the hardest courses I took last year. No tests in the writing centered class, but the papers definitely made up for that. She is, however, very helpful and passionate about the subject, so it makes class a little less painful. Overall very nice teacher...
this was the hardest class of my life. WAY too much writing and work for a GER. i dropped out about halfway through i couldn't take it. only take this class if you're an intense history major and insanely into writing.
Crushing workload; usually 2.5 papers per week. Also says things in class that seem blatantly wrong (e.g. claimed the Battle of Balaclava was fought between the British and Ottomans, claimed that St. Petersburg is a warm water port). Also fails you after 3 absences.
Lewin is absolutely, insanely, ridiculously, difficult. I've always been a hard worker, but this class is disgustingly impossible. The writing, and work load are unbearable. Avoid her at all costs. She's annoying, has a weird laugh and gives an unnecessary amount of work.
AVOID HER...SHE IS NICE, HELPFUL AND EVERYTHING BUT HER TESTS ARE TOO FUCKING HARD AND TOO MUCH HOMEWORK.
PLEASE I don't want to exaggerate but listen to all the ratings on this site about Lewin. We joke that she is the devil incarnated, but honestly she's extremely nice HOWEVER not realistically a class anyone can do well in. That seems to escape her. When 95% of the class fail tests so much so that you have to curve them ridiculously that's bad.
Yes, Dr. Lewin is difficult, but it is completely false to say that no one receives A's in her classes. If you show interest, and prove that you work hard, she will obviously favor you. Don't take her class if you aren't ready to work. However, if you want to learn a lot about the subject, she is the right professor to take.
Great teacher, easy class I thought. I just did the homework and studied for the final and one of the tests and I got an A, granted I did take a summer course, still Dr. Lewin was awesome
Lewin, she's one of a kind! She definitely takes pride in her teaching she loves history and is very passionate about our past times. As far as grading she's iffy .I had her for Western Civics 2 for our first test the class average was a 31 (yeah you do the math) other than her sporadic grading she's kool she makes history a little more interesting
Have to agree this is a disturbing amount of writing required (2 papers a week with 8 cited sources each, I believe) for a GER. She is a stickler for details and expects you to remember asinine facts. Her area of specialty is the Middle Ages, so don't screw up there when studying. I'm a very hard workers and was blown away by her class's workload
I absolutely hated this class. Her grading is too particuar and for the first exam, the average grade was a 39. you really need to work hard in order to deal with her in this class. If your looking for an easy class do NOT take her! wouldnt recommend taking her class at all!!!!! lot of work during the week such a reading and papers every week.
first exam average was a 40 something%.... that says enough about the class right there
super nice but grading is ridiculous. practically everyone failed this class. she's unclear and the only grade we had for her was exams. the average on all the test were between 20 and 60
Wonderful woman. She really cares about history and her students. Would give assignments over every weekend (usually answering 3 questions, one page each). A fair amount of reading but she keeps the class interesting and engaging. Be sure to participate, she makes a great effort to know students. Go to her office hours. Exams were straightforward
Very Nice woman but, expects a lot of her students. Extremely unclear when it comes to assignments. Emails she sends out don't help this. Her class is writing intensive, expects you to read a lot and write a lot. Very passionate about History but the workload is a lot. 1 paper a week for 13 weeks, that should get you thinking…
Lewin is a difficult professor for students who do not want to learn or work hard. her passion for history is infectious and she will go above and beyond for her students who make an effort. For those who claim 2-3 papers a week...false! I've had her 6 semesters and have NEVER had two papers in a week. Great teacher and super smart and quirky too.
Was not a fan of the class. She assumes that everyone has an extensive background of the topics she's teaching. Also assigns lots of papers and is very picky about them (will cross your words out and replaces them with synonyms she likes better) Calls on you and forces you to give an answer even if you honestly dont know, which is embarassing
Do not take Lewin under any circumstances, you will regret it for the rest of your life. She should not be allowed to teach this general history class because expects her students to be professional historians. The homework and textbook assignments make me want to gauge my eyes. Her midterm and final are impossible. Avoid taking her at all costs!
probably one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a professor. She was rude, condescending, and was mad at my freshman class for not understanding what her graduate students could. she would assign over 300 pages of reading plus a paper detailing the reading every night. Not to mention her tests were impossible.
Very difficult class, she expects you to be a history expert. Tests and quizzes are extremely hard. Grades papers very harshly and doesn't give very good feedback. She's too crazy and all over the place, would not suggest taking.
Do not take this class. Way too tough. Extreme amount of reading and papers each week. Grades way too tough on papers and extremely picky. Hardest class to sit through ever.
This is hands down the worst professor I have ever had. She is not clear, lectures for almost the entire class, and doesn't even talk about the reading you had to do the night before. She's horrible. Do not take her
worst teacher at sju
Lewin was absolutely HORRIBLE. She made this class unbearable. She gives quizzes every week on readings assigned over the weekend that can be anywhere from 25-50 pages long, complete bullsh*t. The questions are always way too specific and everyone usually fails. The final is I M P P O S S I B L E.
Lewin is a tough professor, but if you're passionate about learning you will love her. The course load was a lot, but not unbearable. Skim the readings and do the (very few) papers and you'll be fine. Also take lots of notes during her lectures! I learned so much in this class, and I'm really grateful for her infectious enthusiasm and guidance.
I took Lewin for Forging The Modern World. I won't lie, the quizzes and the readings were tedious. But honestly Lewin is probably the smartest professor I have had and ever will have. She loves her job, she loves history and she really wants you to get educated. If you take her GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS she helps A LOT
So Lewin grades supper hard but she sets it up so you only need 64% to get an A. Participation and weekly Q's make up 38%. You write three 2-3 pages papers for 9%, a longer paper for 7%, and the final and midterm are worth 44% combined. First day you get a free 3% essentially. I got a 50 on the midterm and got a and averaged 75 on weekly papers.
Lewin's class was the hardest class I have ever taken. She doesn't make sense and she gives a ridiculous amount of work. I took her class for my freshman seminar and she treated it like it was my major. I worked the hardest for her yet have received the worst grade. Everything I do is wrong even if I went to her for guidance. Awful. DO NOT TAKE HER
Lectures the entire time with very confusing scribbled notes. The readings were almost 100 pages each and are assigned once or twice a week. weekly papers were assigned on the readings. If you use a word she wouldn't use, or word a sentence different than her she scribbles the whole thing out as incorrect and re writes it how she would have liked.
Alison Lewin is hands down the worst professor that has ever graced this earth. Do NOT trust a word this woman says. She says you'll get a passing grade? Count on an F----. She teaches in circles, makes absolute no sense, and sobs over every piece of work you will read. She is heartless and probably the worst person I have ever met. DO NOT TAKE HER
Lewin is an absolutely terrible teacher. The amount of readings each week is too much considering how harshly she grades. She has impossible standards for impossible goals.
Extremely reading intensive, probably more so than any other college "intro" social science course. But if you just do what she assigns you, and participate, you'll probably end up fine. If you pull Cs or even D+s on the midterm/final you can still pull a B+/A- in the class. Just do the work.
Oh Jesus where do I start. Her class is HARD and required more reading/studying than any of my other classes (the most was over 150 pages for ONE class). Her grading is harsh/inconsistent and the amount of course material is pretty overwhelming. A few papers throughout the course, pop quizzes, weekly notecards, and cumulative exams. BEWARE.
While she is a nice lady, Dr. Lewin makes tests near impossible, gives little to no information about the tests, and assigns about 150 pages of reading per week. Her grading is inconsistent and the toughest i have ever encountered. If you wish to get a fun, educational experience learning history, don't take this class.
Not Great, not bad
This class is very very hard. Be prepared to read 75-175 pages of reading every week. PARTICIPATE!!! The notecards with your participation are a grade booster!! Also, take advantage of the EXTRA CREDIT, you will need it!! The midterm average was very low (59) but curved well, doesn't post grades, you only know midterm and final, quizzes are hard
HORRIBLE!!! DO NOT TAKE. I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE. Unbelievable amount of reading, lectures are all over the place, never explains anything, mid term and final are impossible to finish in the time period, and overall the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life!!!!!!
She is a horrible person. She acts like she's a kind person but at heart, she is truly an ignorant person that doesn't care about anything but the homework. When I was sick she droned on about what was due without regard to my health. Reading heavy. Worst prof. I've ever had.
I went to 1 class for Lewin, and after 1 class I already knew that her Forging the Modern World class was gonna be way too tough with all the homework and readings. Luckily I was able to drop her class. If you can still drop her class before it's too late, please do it, and of course, don't even think about taking her.
Honestly she is a very nice lady but s a teacher she is so hard. It's a lot of reading and writing. This class had me so stressed out that I started falling behind in other classes just to keep up. If you have the option dont take her. if you don't, make a friend or group in that class and split up the reading. Pray to your God you make it through.
I felt obligated to write this review. Before I switched schools I took Multivariable Calculous. She made this intro level history class harder! In the syllabus it says it requires 30 hours of reading outside class a week. Also in syl. she says no paper with 3 or more mistakes will be accepted. the syllabus for the entire year had multiple mistakes
Ok, Dr. Lewin cares A LOT about her students and even gives you her cell phone number so you can call her whenever. With that said, I took the crusades with her, which was her first time doing it, but it was very confusing, disorganized and a lot of work. If you must take her, you'll survive but try to avoid if possible.
I loved Dr. Lewin. She's kind and cares about her students, but you have to work for your grade. If you are struggling GO TO HER! She knows the class is a requirement and wants her students to do well. If you don't put in the work you will not get a good grade.
Professor Lewin is all over the place with her lectures. I went from learning about the Mongols one lecture and the Declaration of Independence the next. There is no correlation between her lectures whatsoever. Preparing for midterms is practically impossible, and I cannot recall anything that I have actually learned except things I taught myself.
Multiple readings assigned each week from her 500 page course pack that barely made sense when she talked about them in her lengthy lectures. She is a VERY tough grader. Class midterm average was a 60%. Course material was all over the place. GPA killer no matter what you do. Avoid taking her at all costs. Good luck.
Avoid at all cost. Nothing she talks about in class was on the midterm or on the quizzes. Hours and hours and hours of confusing, heavy reading weekly for homework assignments that shell just give you a 60 on, lower if theres any sort of mistake. Avoid taking her class at all costs.
Lewin really makes you work for the grade you want. But she is very nice and willing to help ANYONE with ANYTHING. Don't be afraid to talk to her and DON'T email her. She only answers calls. Read for class and do ALL the assignments and you can build up your points to get the grade you want.
Dr. Lewin's class is challenging but rewarding. Take meticulous notes in class and it should help w/ fill in blank quizzes. For map quizzes write down on separate piece of paper places discussed and learn their location. Chronology depends on lecture and whatever may be in the reading. It is possible old quiz questions pop up, for each type. GL!
Do not take her. She assigns so much readings each week for homework that do not make much sense at all. She is a harsh grader on homework assignments. For a GEP class this will kill your GPA by taking her. Her midterm and quizzes have little to no correlation to what she says in class. This class was just not worth the GPA hit.
Lewin is a very nice person that's extremely passionate about what she does. With this being said, AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS. She grades very hard and makes you work for every grade you get. She does offer a lot of extra credit but its more than likely that you'll need it just to get a decent grade. Tests are near impossible, so are Midterm and Final.
Don't ever take Dr. Lewin's class. She can barely organize her class, assigns over 200 pages of reading a week (that honestly make no sense or anything to do with the course), essays every week, harsh grader and will constantly tell you that Indians could write better than you. If you want to pass a class, make sure you don't take her's.
The worst class I have ever taken. I feel the more work and time I put into this class, the harsher grades and comments I get on my work. Although reading can be intense, there is so much other things to worry about for this class. The professor is not friendly.
Im not even halfway into this course yet and shes the worst teacher Ive ever had. HEAVY readings all other reviews are correct on how many pages a week. hard analyses and way she grades changes each week makes no sense. Lectures also make no sense and dont connect to analyses we do. She is beyond rude and not organized and uses old powerpoints.
Her course is extremely unorganized. She changes specifics of assignments even the night before they are due. This is extremely frustrating when trying to complete work early because you will have to go back and change what you have already wrote. The assignments rarely give page numbers making it difficult to find what she wants you to read.
Do not take this class. I am in her HIS 154 class right now and the workload is over the top. The HW readings are lengthy and do not correlate with the lectures whatsoever. I spend over half of my HW time on the analyses and get a 60. My GPA is 3.9. Ironically, she won't accept HW with more than 3 mistakes but she makes more grading them. AVOID
Actually the worst teacher I have ever had. Not organized at all and will send you updates about the homework before the night it is due. Lectures don't correlate to the homework or tests at all. The homework is just busy work that takes over 2 hours and you will learn nothing from it and will receive a 4/10. NOT UNDERSTANIDING TO ONLINE SWITCH.
Please don't take her. You will be miserable. We had a midterm on Tuesday, a 2 hour long assignment due Thursday, a paper due Friday on our participation (never done that before and I'm a junior in college), and then a reflection on what she commented on our homework due Sunday. This is all during midterm week while we are taking her class on zoom.
Essays every week class average is a 50. Her class is so hard she has her own grading scale! Midterms/quizzes don't correlate to readings. Class average on midterm is a 65. Average on essays are a 50. Not organized at all. Sends updates to assignment night before due. Known as hardest teacher in history department. Take anyone else.
I realize there are already several bad reviews about Pr. Lewin this semester but still wanted to write because that's how bad she was this semester. No communication, lots of homework, grading criteria isn't clear, wants you to do everything perfectly and will give you a zero but then her quizzes are consistently messed up and that affects us.
We had an assignment (sometimes two) due everyday on Thanksgiving break. The workload she gives out is insane and gives ZERO leeway but then she will struggle with her own materials and the students have to be lenient with her. Her lectures don't relate to the test or quizzes and you will have to read 200 pages w a lengthy HW assignment per class
The hardest professor I have ever taken. She doesn't really care if her students fail and you will never get an A on anything. Gives insane amounts of work and acts like this is the only class you are taking. Extremely disorganized. Please don't take her
One of the worst professors I have ever had. She would grade me 0 on papers and be rude about it in the comments, instead of helping. I would meet with her and she would say that everything I got wrong shouldve been self explanatory. None of her class flows together, and I wasted so much time on this class for no reason. DO NOT TAKE HER PLEASE!!!
One of the worst teachers you can take. Hard grader who seemed to not care at times. Seemed lost at times while adjusting to zoom. Gives weekly papers and final is 18 pages. Expects everyone to be a history major and writing professional. I took the class for writing intensive requirement and got an awful experience, makes you want to transfer.
This class was very difficult, and she was not helpful. Gave very rude comments and unfair grades
Not good laughs at her own jokes. gives too much work. if you don't write like her points will be deducted.
I don't even know what to say. I am taking the class right now and it is so so bad. So much homework with really long readings and even though I try to read them, I don't get it at all. AND in class it's so bad, she calls on you randomly and absolutely no one knows what's going on. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't take her for your own well being <3
Way too much useless work. Bad grader. Laughs at her own jokes. Doesn't tell you at all about assignments and expects you to do random things like go to a museum and write about it for an assignment. Just please whatever you do take someone else for your HIS154 requirement.
Worst professor I have taken. She laughs at her own jokes and lectures the whole class. She calls on people randomly and I fall asleep in her class its so boring. She will fail you if you miss over 3 classes no matter the reason. She grades insanely tough and takes off points for random things.
Learn nothing in class. No connection with professor. She doesn't care if you're failing. No, just don't take her please.
To begin, she made popsicle sticks for our class. Although they were never used, that still says something. Her class was very difficult to keep track of and the course work was a lot. Most of the material was all over the place. She gave an automatic zero if you had more than three typos and for more than 3 lines on the homework.
AVOID PROF. LEWIN AT ALL COSTS!! She is an extremely difficult grader, there is so much unnecessary work and I spent over 4 hours on work a week. She is so unhelpful and the class makes literally no sense. She laughs at her own jokes that aren't funny and also don't make sense. Please do yourselves a favor, don't take her and drop if you get her!
If you are taking HIS154, avoid Professor Lewin.
Just no. Unforgiving grader. Condescending and rude with feedback. Does not care if you fail. Most of the class having same experience with her. Lectures and material are unorganized and random, impossible to keep up. Never know whats happening. Never had below a B, managed to try my best and get a 40% before withdrawing. Hours of HW/week
Dr. Lewin is a very tough teacher to work with. She assigns 60-90 pages of reading every night and will then proceed to quiz the class on material that has not been brought up once in class. She will ask questions in class and then get mad at the class for not answering because everyone is equally as lost. Avoid her at all costs, trust me.
I was put in this class my first semester of freshman year and having Lewin as a professor made it the worst start possible. There are 3 books that you are required to purchase for Forging 154, and just so much reading and homework to be done. She is also extremely strict about attendance, and if you miss more than 3 classes she will just fail you.
If you value your mental health, do not take professor Lewin. Most strict grader ever, laughs at her own jokes, incredibly rude. If you consider yourself as a person who likes school, do not take her. she will put you into depression for real. Too much homework that is not clear at all, Lectures are not good. Avoid her at all costs. Like Seriously.
Do not take Professor Lewin. She is condescending and laughs at her own jokes. She tears assignments apart and gives awful grades. She assigns so many papers and so much reading. If you value your mental and emotional well-being do not take her classes.
ima keep it a bean wit yous, do not take allison lewin if you wanna do well
When I found out she makes you rent/buy four separate textbooks just for her freshman seminar, I knew I made a mistake. On the plus side, the tests are open note and any grade above a 90 is an A.
Professor Lewin is extremely caring and genuinely wants you to become a better researcher. She can be tough grading assignments and tests, but she gives great feedback on why she gave you the grade that she did. Her quizzes and tests do have material she didn't go over, though. Take the time to get to know Professor Lewin, she is very caring.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO SURVIVE. Lewin is a mess. She's a messy professor, disorganized with her slides and lectures, and can be passive-aggressive. Also a tough grader; likes things her way or no way at all, expects us to take good notes despite her slides being messy and a lost cause. her jokes aren't funny either.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO SURVIVE. Lewin is is a messy professor. Most of the time, her slides don't make sense, and her lectures includes her jumping from topic to topic (she makes no sense whatsoever). She's a tough grader, and is very specific with how she wants her analysis. Bought huge books that cost an arm and leg; stay away.
Dr. Lewin is kinda wacko, assigns lots of boring work, and is a tough grader.
Professor Lewin has a specific teaching style, but engaging with it can really pay off. While the coursework is challenging, tools like unstuckstudy were helpful for study prep. Overall, a worthwhile experience.
Now a senior and I took her freshman year, easily the worst professor and experience i've had at this school they need to fire her asap
