Luscomb is a newer professor and it shows in her insecurity. She spends the whole lecture trying to humanize herself ("I was a student just a few years ago!") then when you ask her for help she bites your head off. Honestly: the most immaturity and rudeness I have ever seen in a professor. She has scared me off completely from asking for help.
This is my first time having this professor and even though I didn't do too well on the first two exams, she has been so helpful. She emails back very fast and cares a lot about her students doing well. I personally hate chemistry and she has been able to meet with me three days this week to do practice problems. I 100% percent reccomend.
She was super awesome in Chem Lab. Would help you out if you had any questions. If you stayed behind for clarification on the experiments and results would work through it with you. Very understanding and funny too.
Luscomb may come off a bit cold, but she genuinely cares about her students. She has office hours, and started holding review sessions. Everything was always recorded and uploaded to blackboard. I didnt do that great on the first exam, but the professors say its always like that; so if you study hard for that exam, you'll set yourself up well.
To put it bluntly I have never met a prof who cares so little about the individual student, even in past lectures of 300. Don't waste your time.
Going to Luscomb's labs was my favorite part of chemistry. She was super fun and interactive, allowing students to talk and work freely together and with her. Luscomb would also help explain things that we didn't understand in lecture and give advice for the future. She is an angel!
Do not take this professor. She goes through each slide in literally a second and does not clarify what she is doing. She does not care whatsoever about her students. Take a different professor if you even think about wanting to pass.
Luscomb is a great professor! She does go through lecture slides pretty fast but she is willing to answer questions anytime. Only graded on 4 exams, homework, and recitation. The latter two are not hard and based off of lecture. She post all of her lecture notes online in a timely manner. Exams are 20 questions, multiple choice, no partial credit.
Professor Luscomb gives you every resource you need to succeed. She puts in a lot of effort to help her students with any issues. I liked her lectures and her personality, although she can be kinda depressing sometimes. The exams are tough, but she gives you multiple practice exam, if you work through them you'll definitely pass.
Dr. Luscomb is the best!! She genuinely wants her students to do well, and is a huge help in her office hours for extra help! In a one-on-one setting she is awesome and super helpful, I would not have passed w/out her. She is also very approachable at lectures, definitely go to the lectures because falling behind in one is not ideal. Def take her!!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! She explains well, and I will miss her teaching style. I did most practice exams and got an A because those questions are very similar to exam questions. She gives you all the material to pass her class. She always sets hw due 1 week after the chapter is finished and Ive noticed that she gives less hw probs than other chem profs.
this class sucks and she just makes it even harder
While she can be repetitive at some times, Luscomb is an amazing Chemistry professor. She talks really fast, but the material is really easy and she will do multiple examples so you will understand it. The exams are so easy and so spread out. Homework is really easy and there is not a lot of it. Highly recommend for CHEM 112. She is great!
THE BEST. Lectures are easy to follow and her jokes help so I dont zone out. Exams are the same as all professors but I feel prepared everytime. HW gives you multiple attempts so if you don't get it you don't tank your grade. Would 100% take her again. She's also forgiving w attendance (iClicker) based on class average. Very sweet and the best prof
I took this class based on good reviews, had to withdraw half way through. Theres barely any grades and the exams are never based on what we learn in class. Homework is time consuming and she doesnt explain the material well. She always talks about how other teachers get higher exam averages- not surprised. Dont take this professor
Alright, i've been in her class for both 111 and am in 112. 100% fantastic teacher and i can say one thing about the people that say she doesn't care: they are outright lying. Pay attention to the lectures and if you need help, ASK after class! Also, all her lectures are in the lab book, so take notes there! Exams: Know what to study, ask Q's
Professor is interesting and approachable. This is a professor that is challenging, yet wants her students to understand. Professor answers emails in a timely manner and provides many resources to make her students successful. Class is not "easy" but if you use your resources and put in some effort you will get an A.
Don't take her take ATP. Luscomb is pretty rude and has poor guidance when it comes to tests. She goes super fast in class and just wont slow down. Chem 112 is hard, but she's just no help. She's is really confusing when teaching and won't take questions in class. She acts like she's here to help her students, but she really doesn't want to.
She talks fast out of necessity, chem has a lot of material to cover. Despite needing to move quickly she explains everything thoroughly and is always happy to answer questions/provide help. Truly cares about students and offers countless resources for practice/more help. Taking her class again next semester. Has some of the highest test averages.
I enjoyed Professor Luscomb. She runs through notes a little fast, but there's a lot of content to cover, and she posts the lectures online. She's very knowledgeable of the subject, and she understands it's not easy. I highly recommend going to SI, because I realized just going to class and doing homework wasn't always enough to get an A on exams.
Shes super funny and nice but a pretty tough class. Exams are very difficult and specific. Does a really good job trying to help with the amount of content
Honestly Luscomb is a great starting prof. Really easy to understand her lectures as she explains everything super clearly. If you do the HW and attend class you're almost guaranteed an A. Exams are easy if you listen, which is pretty easy because she is super engaging. Down to earth and super funny. Great prof.
Professor Luscomb has AMAZING lectures. She explains concepts super well and really cares about her students. There are 3 exams, 11 homework assignments (super easy), iClicker questions, and a final exam. She also posts past exams you can study with which makes the exams so much easier if you study with them. Overall, she was super great.
Truly cares about her students and clearly loves what she is doing which makes the class more enjoyable and makes you want to attend. She posts a ton of practice exams that are super similar to the actual exams. The lectures can be pretty fast but she posts recordings of the lecture so you can watch them later. Overall, an enjoyable class.
Luscomb is a very young professor, but she's already excellent at the job, and I would DEFINITELY recommend taking one of her classes. The material itself is the only difficult thing, but if you took chem in high school, it's not too bad. She's very kind and understanding. She also records all lectures and posts past tests for you to study.
Dr. Luscomb gives engaging lectures and genuinely cares so much about her students. Based off what I've heard about other chem professors, she gives the least amount of homework and she was always easily accessible through office hours and through email. I would definitely recommend!
tbh i dropped this class about halfway through but i wanted to rate her anyways. i didn't drop it bc of her by any means. she is awesome, genuinely one of the best chem profs i've had. chem in general is just difficult, but she really did her best to help everyone. if i end up taking this again i hope i'll get to have her.
Prof Luscomb was amazing! She made the subject not only simple to understand but actually interesting. She moves very fast in lecture so be ready to pay attention while there. She is super fair and cares that her students actually succeed. I recommend her to anyone taking chem 111. Love her!!
Honestly I was very nervous about taking chemistry because I knew it was going to be challenging. Professor Luscomb was very approachable and while she does talk really fast during lecture, she gives you all the tools you need to succeed in her class. Her office hours are also very helpful if you are struggling. I highly recommend her class!
Made chemistry class awesome! Classes were lecture style, but her jokes and examples made the content easier and more enjoyable. Attendance was taken through iClicker before every class. Provided practice exams that made the tests super easy to pass if you worked through them. Would totally recommend!
Professor Luscomb was very straightforward and went by the lecture notes we were all given in our lab manuals. She let us watch her lectures at a later time if you couldn't make it to class, although you would lose a few points on your total iclicker grade for not being present. Homework is online and not bad at all, and practice exams were great.
Attendance is taken everyday by iClicker so show up. She is a good professor, gives practice exams that are exactly like the actual exams(even the final). Practice all the problems a few times and you'll be good to go. She tells you things that you will have to memorize for exams. Go to SI sessions BEFORE you get behind, they're actually helpful.
I came into chem having failed chem in High school. Ms. Luscomb worked with me after class and during office hours and I went from knowing nothing to getting As on all the tests. She cares so much about her students and has tons of practice problems. She does talk fast in her lectures but records them so if you get lost, just listen to it later
SUCH a great professor. I was really able to skate through this class with minimal effort because her lectures were just so easy to understand. Shes a very engaging lecturer with lots of jokes and dark humor. Got a 100 on every exam and 95 on the final. TAKE HER NOW.
Chem111 was in a lecture hall, but it didn't make it harder; Luscomb is a good teacher. She releases previous tests as study guides that are very similar to the actual test (do them several times each and you'll do fine). Weekly homework and iClicker quizzes for attendance.
Luscomb was so great in CHEM111, I chose to have her for CHEM112 even though class is at 6pm. She's very knowledgeable on the course, and delivers her knowledge well. She understands how chemistry isn't always easy and doesn't expect you to be a genius for chemistry. She's also really funny which is nice! Attendance mandatory, hw once a week
Love her so much!! I was terrified to take this chemistry class since I did not do well in it in high school but she made me LOVE chemistry and understand it so much more. She made chemistry one of my favorite classes which is crazy for me. Take her if she is an option!!!
Love Luscomb, she is an absolute sweetheart. She does take attendance but explains topics so well. There is little homework, and she provides amazing amounts of study material. Go to her office hours!! It is so much help, literally take her and you will do so well
LOVE Luscomb. She's the best Chem 111 and 112 professor. All of her exams are online, 20 questions. She records her lectures and posts her notes. She also provides extra practices for exams! You don't have to buy textbook but have to buy acheive for homework. Take her!!
Chem 111 is a hard class in general, but Luscomb does a really good job trying to make students understand the information. The class is quick paced because of the all the information you have to cover, but if you show up and really pay attention you should do good. There are iclickers for attendance. She is nice and cares about students.
Luscomb is a fine professor. However, the hw only sometimes really lines up with what's on the test. But there's lots of practice tests to work on that helped me pass this class. I really don't like that in person attendance is mandatory even though she livestreams the lectures and posts them on BB anyway
I absolutely love professor Luscomb. I took her for chem111 and now chem112 and she is the best!! She makes the material much more understandable and explains everything in detail. There were also plenty of SI sessions and office hours available if you needed extra help before a test. Totally recommend!
Professor Luscomb is the best, if you can get a spot in her class definitely take her. She seems a little intimidating at first but is very kind and it is obvious she cares about her students. Go to her office hours if you need help. The tests are 20 questions in an hour and fifteen minutes. She gives a lot of extra practice material, so use it.
I really like her as a person and she wasn't a bad teacher. She gave a lot of practice problems which was helpful and I thought I would end with a B, but the final was so hard and it made me end with a c in the class. Very lecture and test heavy so you need to go to class.
Mrs. Luscomb is an amazing professor, I took her for both Chem 111 and 112 for a reason. She loves her classes and she is an amazing teacher. While she may talk fast at times she is completely open to taking questions and redoing a problem for full understanding. She is the best professor I have taken so far and the most caring for all students.
I changed my major because of this class so good luck. You have to go to class or you will fail.
LOVE this professor. Had her for 111 and 112. She makes the material easy to understand and lectures aren't boring. Attendance isn't required but you'll make a way better grade if you attend. Grades are weekly hw assignments and three online tests plus the final. She provides so much practice material and is a super caring professor.
I had her lab online and so she made the videos of each experiment very clear. Each lab included background info, a pre lab assignment, a data entry and participation. All of them were super easy and clear so I never had a problem with any of her labs. Would 100% take again.
Alison is truly the best. She is lecture heavy, but she's very engaging which makes it not boring. She makes learning chemistry fun + interesting. I really recommend taking her if you struggle a bit with chemistry or want a good grade. Material isn't the easiest obvi but if you do the homework and take the practice exams you will def get an A
I absolutely love her as a professor, she talks fast sometimes but always explains herself thoroughly, you will do amazing as long as you pay attention and take notes.
Professor Luscomb makes practice exams for every exam which is amazing. She really cares about her students and wants them to do well. She takes attendance and assigns homework every Sunday.
I took Luscomb for both Chem 111 and 112, I recommend taking her, she is someone who responds back quickly to emails, is ready to answer any questions you may have before, during, and after lectures. She is also pretty funny and relatable since she is a few years older than the average college student, so its nice banter if you look for that.
Luscomb did such a great job at making chem easy and interesting. The tests are very similar to the questions she puts on the practice exam so if you study, you will be fine
Very important to go to lectures. The exam problems are the same as the class problems. Blackboard well organised with lots of material available to study. Really helpful teach that will make available the class recordings if you miss the class because of a justifiable cause. class paced according to the exams schedule and not according to final.
I fully believe luscomb is the sole reason I am doing so well in this class. I fully failed chem in high school so I was terrified for this class. She made chemistry easy to understand and I never imagined I would have an A in this class. She is also super funny and so so so willing to help with anything you need. Super understanding too
Luscomb is a good chemistry teacher, but its very fast paced bc of how big the class is and how quickly things need to be taught. Therefore, you will probably need to go to SI sessions. She posts test reviews that help a lot, but the actual exam is so so hard. Shes kind! Exams are online with lockdown
I liked her class. Not too difficult but there is weekly homework.
Take her! She is a great teacher who makes the class a lot easier than you think. She will post practice exam that help you study, along with weekly homework assignments that aren't too hard if you practice the material. She is always open to helping you just make sure you ask. Probably wouldn't have passed if I didn't take her.
I am retaking CHEM112, I took Luscomb instead of my original prof. She is great. She goes through material kind of quick, but she always does a review before exams and the exam is very similar to the review problems. She explains material well and genuinely wants everyone to pass. I would definitely take her again.
Professor Luscomb is hands down my favorite professor. She wants her students to succeed in her class and is extremely approachable. She made 141, an initially difficult class, enjoyable and manageable through her lectures and recitation periods. Her tests incorporate bonus points and questions are taken from the textbook. Will take her again!
Professor Luscomb was really an awesome person, and a really good professor, however her material is one that you will really need to learn outside of the classroom environment. The only things done in class is her slideshows, which can be helpful, but you will mostly have to teach yourself the problems. Put a lot of work and time in to this class.
Professor Luscomb is a great professor and is probably one of the best CHEM professors @ UofSC. Her lectures are quickly paced, but not unmanageable and are usually entertaining. She offers lots of practice for the exams (which are the same no matter what chem prof you have) and usually has some of the highest test averages, and it is evident why!
Ms. Luscomb is a treat. Some of the best lectures I've ever had the pleasure of being part of. She makes it VERY clear what to focus on for exams and is very, very good at teaching Chemistry. She is funny, if you have a dry sense of humor, like me. All notes are uploaded immediately after lecture. TONS of extra practice problems and practice exams.
took Alison for Chem 111 and 112. it is a hard class and you can't slack off with homework. this professor was so sweet and caring. she will answer any emails and questions. she is really young and understanding so it makes it easy to approach her.
Horrible teacher. She receives positive reviews because she's very friendly, but lectures are rushed and content is not explained well. I'm two weeks into this class and already having to teach myself how to do the homework because it wasn't discussed in class. This is on top of the weekly labs and recitations, making this incredibly tedious.
No possibility of extra credit. Classes are long and kinda boring. Gives practice tests. Allows disruptive students to remain in class. Sometimes actual tests don't exactly match practice tests.
A lot of critiques for her class aren't critiques of her class, but how the chem department at USC operates. I think for what she's given to work with, she does a very good job of making her lectures and assigning homework fair. I wish she would work different types of problems as opposed to the same kind over and over; she misses some content
longish lectures but works a ton of examples to the point youll get sick of it. every exam has a practice exam that will set you up for success (this is all i study for exams). homework every week which can sometimes take a long time but it will help you understand the information more. iclicker attendance and question every lecture
I took her for 111 and she was awesome, but for 112 not so much. It might just be me, but I feel as if she is zooooming through 112 material so fast. She goes through the slides so fast that I will miss some notes because of it. The exams for 112 are much tougher than 111, but overall she is a good teacher.
I was scared of this class because I HATED high school chemistry, but after having Luscomb I love chemistry. She makes the material understandable, she explains everything and give practice exams that look A LOT like the actual exam. TAKE THE PRACTICE EXAMS! Do the homework, it will boost your average and go to class she does iclicker attendance.
Second time taking Luscomb and still highly recommend her. The lectures are straight forward and she explains the material really well. For the tests, do the practice tests over and over and you're set for the tests (almost identical). Has a lot of time to meet outside of the classroom with students and is extremely approachable. Makes chem easy.
Prof Luscomb is an amazing chem professor and kept me interested in the class even though I took chem for two years in HS. Her lectures are fast paced but she makes sure to do lots of examples. HW is easy and tests aren't bad. Just use her practice tests and make sure you can answer the questions because you really don't need a deep understanding.
Professor Luscomb was so nice and very approachable. I did not love her teaching style, I felt like too much time was given to simpler concepts and she glossed over more difficult ones rather quickly. Overall I would definitely recommend her as she is still a good teacher!
She is a great professor and cares for her students a ton!
I believe that I would have failed chem if i had taken a different prof. She was amazing and taught so well. Def would take again.
Honestly all of the chem professors are about the same. Luscomb is good, but she does sometimes go too fast. She does iclicker attendance, but she doesn't do iclicker questions throughout class, so it can be pretty easy to skip after doing attendance. Still, try not to skip!!! It will hurt you in the long run.
Professor Luscomb is a great, super friendly, and helpful teacher. She posts all of her notes to Blackboard on time, has numerous resources for students to study, and even posts a number of practice problems and practice exams so that students can be ready for the exam. She goes fast but there are notes to use. I recommend Professor Luscomb.
Professor Luscomb is an amazing professor! She gives you a good foundation, and breaks things down! She provides practice exam and other resources that are almost identical to the exams. Do the homework and practice and you will be set! I would definitely recommend her!
I did not know a chemistry teacher could make things so easy to understand and be hilarious at the same time!
Dr. Luscomb is amazing! Her lecture set the bar for what I expected from all my chemistry professors, and one has met that bar since. I changed majors to chemistry because of her; she has true passion for chemistry and uses it to help students learn. Everything felt fair and I wish she taught higher level classes so I could take her again.
Great professor for Chem 111 and 112. Makes concepts easy to understand. Posts annotated slides to blackboard so it's easy to catch up if you don't go to class. Overall great professor!
Fantastic professor. She is so funny and cares a lot about her students. She always wants the best for her students, so she is very willing to work with them whatever their circumstances are. She has extra credit and homework grades, so you have a buffer if you don't do well on the test. She explains things very well and loves to answer questions.
makes chemistry really easy!! super entertaining yet comprehensive lectures! posts all annotated slides on blackboard after class, and has several useful resources on blackboard including practice problems and practice exams!!
Professor Luscomb is a great teacher who makes an effort to get to know students. The class I took with her, Chem 141 Honors, was extremely difficult, but she was a good professor overall.
I love her sm, she always made sure to explain examples thoroughly and was engaging during lecture. She has a good sense of humor, I recommend taking her for any Chem class!
GREAT TEACHER. i think she explains concepts really well and wants you to do well in the class. practice exams are exactly like the exam. she sets you up for success so it really depends on the student if the do well or not. love her. weekly homework which is annoying but it does help you with the class.
LOVE Luscomb. She is a great and funny professor and always lets class go early. She makes chemistry easy and will be taking her for 112. She adds in homework problems in class so just do the homework in class with her and she does iclicker for attendance.
This class was especially hard for me because I had little background in chem. She was good at lecturing, but I had to use the textbook to understand things. She cared about us doing well, and I definitely didn't expect to get an A. But, with some hard work and her fair grading, it worked out. She also replaces your lowest grade with your exam.
I went into this class expecting it to be very easy as I took AP Chem in high school and was definitely surprised by the level of difficulty. But Ms. Luscomb put a lot of effort into making sure she explained topics thoroughly and tried her best to help us out. I do definitely recommend this class just be prepared to work hard.
she is a great professor and really trys to relate to students with the material provided.
Take her if you can! I've always loved chemistry but she definitely made me love it more. Gives so much practice, answers questions, and really knows the material. Very approachable and funny, definitely recommend!
Professor Luscomb was one of the best teachers I've had. The content is very lecture heavy but as long as you pay attention you'll be fine. There is weekly homework, but not too much. Attendance was mandatory and she checked each class. She does a lot of practice problems, so if you learn by practicing, this class is for you.
Professor Luscomb was my favorite professor this semester. Her lectures are engaging with a lot of practice, and the speed at which she teaches was beneficial because I didn't get bored. She's super responsive to emails, and will help you after class if you have a question. I honestly think I would have failed if I took a different professor.
I loved having Luscomb as an instructor! She was always so funny and always tried her best to make lectures engaging. In addition, she always made sure to thoroughly explain every concept to avoid confusion. Even though this can be a challenging class, as long as you do the homework and the practice exams to prepare, you will be okay.
One of my favoritre professors of all time. Great lectures, hilarious, several examples, you name it. While the tests and homework can be a lot for the average student, Professor Luscomb provides several resources to help study and complete each of theses tasks. HIGHLY recommended.
Prof. Luscomb delivers lectures smoothly. She wants her students to learn and to do well, she does NOT just spit material at you. I found her to be very caring, yes, but also extremely smart and organized. Ask her ANYTHING and she will help. This was my second attempt due to a previous F but she restored my strength and love in/for chemistry.
Professor Luscomb is the best option for CHEM111; she is genuinely interesting & informative throughout the entire course. I find chemistry to be my most difficult subject, yet she makes her lectures very bearable and comprehensive. She cares about her students' success and is always able to help you with the homework or any questions you may have.
She is amazing, 100% a teacher that makes you love the subject she's teaching. She does talk fast most of the time but I found that good so the lectures could keep my attention. I would take her for every class if I could.
Lectures are clear and engaging. She explains the concepts very well. If you have the choice definitely take her over others.
I love Ms. Luscomb. She is a really great professor. Accessible outside of class, email(very responsive)/office hour. Great lecture, but it is fast paced though, so you have to pay attention. Very knowledgable in what she is doing and is fun to talk to. Overall she is the best Chem teacher I had. Very motivating. Very caring. Take her!!
Professor Luscomb is really funny and cares about students. The class is a harder class, but she does hold review sessions and is willing to help you. Great Professor!
Luscomb is an amazing teacher and a really fun person. I like that she talks faster than most people because it's not boring. She explains things really well, doesn't do iClicker for attendance, she does reviews, and sends out her lectures online sometimes. Only con-doesn't answer emails that fast outside of class.
I took Prof. Luscomb for chem 111 and 112 and I honestly wish she taught Orgo so I could take her a third time. She is super funny during lectures and makes sure you understand the material she is teaching clearly. If you have questions she is quick to respond and super nice. I 10/10 recommend taking her class, she is amazing.
Professor Luscomb is awesome! She made a difficult class much easier and is so kind. Attendance is mandatory, but she explains everything well and she gives you all the materials necessary to study for her exam.
Definitely take her! She is very understanding and helps you to succeed. She is very good at explaining concepts and loves to answer questions no matter how dumb or small you may think they are. She has no judgment. She helped me to succeed and was also very entertaining!
Professor Luscomb took a kid from a barely passing highschool level knowledge of chemistry to perfecting their work by the end of 102. She is everything you need in a professor, and not just for her subject. If i could have selected every positive option for her i would have. 10/10
I had professor Luscomb for both CHEM111 and 112 - she is incredible and caring. CHEM112 was more difficult, but I couldn't have done it without her. She is super helpful and always emails back if you have any questions. I also liked how the exams were online. Thank you professor Luscomb, I didn't feel like I drowned in the matrix of chemistry.
She's good at her job and usually respond to emails quickly but it's obvious she craves attention from students which can be a bit annoying and distracting from lecture. definitely playing into the young professor thing. But she's the best option for chem 111 and 112.
If you are taking Chem, this is who you want. She is very fun and still gives you the understanding of the material that you need to do well on exams.
One of my favorite professors of all time. She's hilarious and makes an incredibly difficult subject manageable. Genuinely wants you to do well and has fun with you in doing so. Definitely recommend taking an honors section with her if you can.
I absolutely loved luscomb for chem 111. I never cared much for chem, but as a bio major she made me want to become a chem major. Her tests are pretty easy. she gives practice tests to study with and they are pretty much the same thing as the actual exam. She can go a bit fast in lectures sometimes, but nothing that is too bad. TAKER HER FOR CHEM!!
LOVE ATP!! Please take her if you can, she's super funny and makes boring lectures entertaining.
Luscomb is very enthusiastic and good at what she does. Very approachable and good at explaining things. You will have homework due every week, but if she does not cover the material in time then she will push it back to be fair. Attendance is taken every day via iclicker, would recommend going as much as possible, her lectures are fast paced.
I ABSOULTELY LOVE ATP! Take her for Chem! She is such an enthusiastic professor and loves what she does. Homework is every week, but will be pushed back if it hasn't been gone over. The practice exams are heaven sent and really help practice the material. Even though it is face paced, you are provided outside resources to help!
She is such a good professor, all of her sections get filled up for fast because she is known as such a good teacher. Everyone I know taking chem not with her does not understand the content as well as I do. She also usually has the highest exam scores.
You will have a lot of homework due on each Sunday, but you have 7 attempts for pretty much each question and they are easy. Each homework is graded individually so as long as you do them, you'll end the course with many 100s in the grade book. Her lectures are great and pretty entertaining and her homework help a lot for studying.
she makes all the homework, practice exams, and exams for 111, so she'd very knowledgable. entertaining lectures; very knowledgable
Prof. Luscomb was truly the best professor and teacher I have ever had. Her lectures were extremely engaging and easy to follow. There are so many resources to help you do well in her class. You can tell she genuinely cares about her students and is very funny. Homework is very, very reasonable. I would highly recommend taking her to anyone.
She creates all exams for Chem 111; everyone takes the same one that's 20Qs, randomized w/ question banks. Lectures are entertaining because she's super into chemistry and knows how to teach. She's obtaining her Doctorate in Chemistry Education but I thought she already had a Doctorate from the way she teaches. I'm taking her again for Chem112!
Best chemistry professor I've had. She's funny and makes the lectures engaging. First chemistry class that I've actually enjoyed going to. If you can, get into her class you will do very well. Lots of resources to study for exams.
She was one of my favorite teachers. She was very funny and actually made the lectures entertaining. Her class itself was very easy, it is almost impossible not to pass it. She gives practice exams that are almost identical to the normal exams and you can take them as many times as you want. I definitely recommend her.
Best chemistry teacher! I highly recommend her. I am taking her again for CHEM 112. Her classes fill up really fast so get a spot quickly. She teaches the best way and keeps you engaged. Usually has the highest test scores.
Professor Luscomb makes this challenging course much more manageable. Engaging lectures, no-judgment help, and great study resources like unstuckstudy make this a solid choice - just stay on top of the work and you'll do well.
Took for both gen chems and highly recommend. she is very clear on everything and helpful for topics that ur not understanding. everyone I know that took her loves her. got an A in both courses and fairly enjoyed her classes
Prof Luscomb is amazing. She does teach very fast-paced but she is very open to helping her students and questions. She makes the tests for all CHEM 111/112 at UofSC and will add in questions similar to the tests in class and tell you commonly missed questions. There is a lot of homework but all Chem students have the same assignments.
Fantastic professor! I took her for Chem 111 and 112. Her sense of humor helped the class get through the material. If you keep up with the weekly homework, study for the exams, and go to her office hours when you're struggling you'll do well. Asking her questions is great too bc she made the Gen chem exams. The key to success is the practice exams
Content is pretty difficult but she is an amazing teacher. There is a lot of homework problems but they are pretty simple. She provides a lot of resources and genuinely wants her students to succeed.
I love Professor Luscomb!!! She is so funny and does a great job at explaining the material. She is always willing to explain problems and answer questions. Chemistry requires you to study and prepare for the tests to do well. Luscomb gives you the tools to succeed.
INCREDIBLE! Very good at going through chemistry problems in class and explaining step-by-step how to tackle tough ones. Highly recommend attending lecture because she prepares you for each exam very well.
Had her for chem 111 and 112 and she was amazing. There is a lot of content and she goes quick sometimes but provides lots of examples and resources that help. There is a lot of homework, but I found it helpful. There are practice exams for each exam and the final that reflect the exams exactly.
She made chemistry so easy to understand and her humor kept me awake during lecture heavy classes. Did I mention she's hilarious, and she genuinely cares about her students. She provides so much material and practices exams, my lowest was a 90 bc of how similar the practice and real exams are. PLEASE TAKE HER ITS SO WORTH IT!!!
Chemistry is extremely difficult, but Dr. Luscomb was very engaging and encouraging for the students in the class. She talked to us, and was very funny. The tests are difficult but that is just because of the subject, she does the best she can to make it as easy as possible. I will be taking her again next semester
In a class of 200+ students its hard to be engaging, but Dr. Luscomb is a very funny professor and does a lot of practice problems during class. You can tell she cares about her students and wants them to succeed. The only bad part of the class is iclicker mandatory attendance.
Take her! If you don't, you are missing out. I always hated chem in high school, but I took her for CHEM111 and 112 I got an A in both. Dr. Luscomb was very engaging and encouraging for the students in the class. She talked to us, and was very funny. Secret to get an A in her class: Practice Exam, if you can ace that, you'll ace the exam. TAKE HER!
Allison is an amazing professor; she is lecture-heavy but makes the lectures bearable. She is very funny and helps you understand the content very well. I loved her enough to register for her 112 class next semester.
She is really nice I am just bad at chemistry. Do the practice exams they help a lot. The final was very hard other exams were fair game
Super sweet and caring for students. The chemistry department is highly structured, and I think Prof. Luscomb does a great job of focusing on the most important aspects within each section of content. I'd also advise sitting near the front of the class, she'll answer any questions and will sometimes chat with you throughout the lectures.
Such an amazing professor. Her lectures aren't mandatory and she makes sure you're aware of it. Posts all the lecture videos on Blackboard incase you miss a lecture. Such effective teaching methods and very understanding. 100% recommend.
If you have to learn chemistry, TAKE HER! She explains everything very clearly. To do well on exams, take the practice exams provided on blackboard. Truly the most amazing chemistry professor I've ever had, she helps you if you have questions too! Younger professor so very relatable and funny. She's stylish too!
Didn't pay attention much, but when I did, everything was explained well and she cares for you. One of the best chem professor at this University and also really nice.
She is an incredible professor. I really appreciate how she goes over the material more than once, it helps me actually understand what she's teaching, and that means a lot. She's also so kind and truly understands her students, which makes learning with her even better.
she is the best if you have to take chem111 or 112 TAKE HER
Professor Luscomb has been a saving grace for someone who isn't naturally good at science. She is very passionate about chemistry but understands its not everyones forte. Grading criteria is clear from the beginning and she gives practice tests. She will break down difficult topics if you visit her in office hours or even just send her an email.
Please take Ms. Luscomb for chemistry!! She is hands down my favorite professor. As long as you show up to class you can do very well. She is always more than happy to answer questions and work out problems with you. If you sit in the front she will chat with you before class and she's a really fun person to talk to.
Love her. Pretty much set up the same as Chem 111, however I find this class easier.
