Don't take her -- you'll be sorry if you do!!! By the end of the semester, there were only 8 or 9 students left in the class. She was clearly not interested in what she was teaching and talked down to the class as if we were all just plain STUPID!

At first, I didn't care for her, but once you get to know her, she is fricken hilarious. A tough, but good teacher. Let's you be EXTREMELY creative with your writing. Highly recommend for 101.
I took Mrs. Pelegrin for eng. 101, and I didn't like her at all at first. She's really cool in class, very laid back and nice, but she's not very clear in why you receive the grades you do on your essays.
I don't understand her. She gets pissed at the class if nobody participates in the discussion, and when you do, she storms out of the class. Her essay topics are boring, she hardly explains how to correct a mistake, and belittles you in front of the class if she doesn't like your essay.
Terrible instructor. Grades essays so that entire class can hear, doesn't have set grading scale, and insults the class. Not very helpful with essays, doesnt give pointers, and will not help you. I made a B in her class, and I issue this warning to you. She hates you when you sign up for the class.
evil!no set grading scale.stay away from this woman!
She is a very blunt person. She usually likes you if you sit in the front of the class. I never had a problem. You had to read a ton, but it really was not to bad. It is not an easy A however.
I had her for American Lit. At first I thought she was a horrible person. But her class in all actuality is easy. The only things on her tests, are the things she discusses in class. All you have to do is come to class and take notes.
This woman is certifibly crazy! She can't make up her mind if she wants the class to participate or not. She is very unclear as to how she grades and her tests are EXTREMELY difficult. Avoid this teacher at all costs.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS WOMAN! She picks her favorites and doesn't care a flying fart in space about her students. While grading essays, she talks so loud that everyone can here and makes you feel stupid. She insults the class and gives false pre-grades from what ends up being your actual grade.
I liked her and her class. If you read the assignments that she tells you to you should be okay. But take those papers seriously!!!!
i took her and revcieved an A in her class, it is true that she seems to pick favorites and she is very opionated, yet her test came directly from the notes in class..if you pay attention and write decent papers it's not difficult to make an A or B
Worst teacher I've ever had at SLU! Do not take her! Avoid this woman at all costs and if you're smart, don't insult Walt Whitman!

Pelegrin was a good teacher, but not suited for me. She asked every day if anyone had questions about grammar and helped them...then assigned another paper.
just works on papers
Very unhelpful and always off topic... grading was very random and unclear
she is a very opinionated person and makes you feel stupid. Also, unfair and sarcastic
do not take. doesn't explain. bad grading scale. rude to students. too many papers.
She is very unclear on what she wants in a paper! Does not like to help students on any activities and is very sarcastic!!! Loves to humliate students in front of other students!!!! Does not grade fairly and makes up the most stupid topics to write on!! IF YOU TAKE THIS CLASS UNDER HER U R DOOMED!!!!
Very rude, grades papers in front of students, and just an overall mean person. She takes no interest in the class, like it's a burden for her to teach the class when she thinks she should be a 400 level English instructor. Avoid at all costs. If you take her for 102, you might as well drop it and retake the class next semester.
MY first thought of this teacher was that she was nice. My opinion changed very quickly. She's kind of weird, but I wouldnt say her class is hard. She doesnt explain the assignments very good but she has begun to help with our essays in class. I probably wouldnt take her class again!
You write four essays, and take maybe two quizes. She isn't hard. She comes with alot of attitude though
I will never take her again. She is sooooo... moody. She always has something to say and shows alot of favoritism. I will never take her again.
If you go to class everyday and follow assignment instructions it an easy class.

Does a good job helping with essays
The first graded paper in her class she had only marked 4 things wrong, and i had a D. It was a diagnostic that was never worked on again??? She commented on any time i missed class or was five minutes late in front of the entire class? Professional i don't think so. She has favorites clearly, because those are the only ones she talks to in class?
Awesome teacher. Very enthusiastic. A lot of fun and class discussions where enlightening. Great class.
She is a good teacher and like to make jokes. she loves to read and if you go to class and read what she tells you, then u have an easy A!
She is very good teacher. She explains everything before essays are due.
Great teacher. Alot of reading but the test are very fair. She usually doesnt like to scantron, but when she does if she sees a question that most people missed she will throw it out and and points to everyones test
cool teacher!!
She is a good teacher. Very funny and helpful if you went to her outside of class. The assignments may seem like they are coming out of left field sometimes, but she has a knack for relating the theme to what is going on in the world.
Class discussions are always intersting. You have to write 7 essays during the semester, two of which are your midterm and final (they're in-class essays). She explains the essays really well and is extremely helpful.
She is amazing and so utterly relaxed and FUN!!
She is thee best. She's always making class interesting with discussion and i just love the stories of her kids. Wonderful teacher!!!!!
this class is ok...the way she grades papers are stupid
Class was great overall. She does her best to keep students involved in class discussions. Class can choose to have tests in class or online. Attendance isnt required but show up b/c it'll help, and all you have to do is the readings so you can particpate in class. By far one of the better English professors on campus.
Was often difficult to understand exactly what she wanted from the essays she had us right, and it seemed like it changed quite a bit from essay to essay. But once you got in her 'groove' she was reasonable enough, and you could tell she really likes English and reading others stories.
She was the BEST English teacher. She was understanding and willing to help. She does expect her students to be responsible and punctual when turning in assignments. However, she will allow late work. She works with you to ensure that you have the best experience in her class. I WOULD DEFINITELY TAKE HER AGAIN!
Ms. Pelegrin is probably the best eng teacher i have ever had. She is very artistic and likes for students to dig deep. She sometimes cancels class and is one of the funniest professors in the world! She relates things to real life and is really layed back.
she is really helpful.
She is very passionate about english which makes her class fun, but only if you read the material. Her essays are a little hard to get a good grade on because you don't know exactly what she wants. She's really funny and nice. Just go to class, read the material, participate, and you will be fine.
She's a good teacher, but sometimes it's really difficult to understand exactly what she wants from your essays. She has opinions on the books she reads and if you disagree with her, you are wrong. That's a good thing to keep in mind when writing an essay. She was a good teacher, though, and very passionate about English.
SHE IS A ERY GOOD TEACHER WITH CERTAIN THINGS. SHE IS VERY INTRESTINGAND VERY OPEN MINDED.
She will be easy if you do all your works. Lots of points journal points, extra points, and a bit tough grading for essays but full marks for other assignment
I was dreading having to take this class. I have actually been putting it off for a couple of years now, and I opted to take this class online with Dr. Pellegrin and she was AMAZING!! I literally made perfect scores on all my discussion board responses. I made a 99 in the class. Best decision I ever made!!
Amazing teacher, interacted with the class a lot which really helped in learning the material. Very enthusiastic about English. Three essays, a midterm and a final. Would definitely take again!
Tests are easy, plus the journals are an easy 30 points. The essays are the real killers, but,if you get a halfway decent grade on them, you'll pass the class no problem.
Her class is very, very easy. You have journals every week which are an easy 30 points. You only have 3 essays, one for each book you read in class. She is very into the epics we read and tries to engage the class. I have never had a problem with her. I made full points on every journal, an A on the midterm, and high B's on the essays. Easy A.
She was a good professor. You can tell how much she loves English, and it makes the class a lot more fun.
Easy teacher but likes to pick favorites! Learned very little that pertained to my initial interest in the class. Will not take her again.
Pretty easy teacher (especially for honors) Definitely picked favorites really early on. She never even tried to hide her opinion on any of the text we read and she never busted anyone for their cell phone going off. (Something that happened almost every class) Still, she was nice, understanding and knew what she was talking about. Just too easy.
Hated this teacher! I love to read and even I was bored to tears. She doesn't do anything but make us read aloud in class like we r toddlers!
I took her online course and it is EXTREMELY time consuming. Multiple readings every week along with a discussion board, 3 comment requirement and a quiz. Her midterm was ridiculous! You have to remember details about every reading to get a decent grade. Don't take if you don't want to give 110% effort.
She never clearly tells you what she wants in an essay and never really tells you what you're doing wrong. Aside from that, she is probably the funniest woman I've ever met.
Attendance is mandatory. Heavy reading throughout semester with 1000 word paper due for each book. Quizzes and exams are easy and she prepares you well. Papers are graded hard, but she is always available to help you with them in person or over email. There is a semester project! Very passionate about poetry. She is an intense teacher.
You will do a lot of writing. There are three essays and a final creative project plus two exams and occasional surprise quizzes. She can be a little boring but if you read the books and can write well, you will be just fine. Not a bad experience at all.
Only take this class if you have alot of time to spend on it. Online class is very consuming. Discussion boards, quizzes, midterm, essays, everything. The essays are on dumb topics and she grades really hard. You never know what she wants or what you did wrong. She does give chance for bonus though. Absolutely does not accept late work.
Did I like her? No. WIll I take her class again for the easy A? Yes. Scored low on all 3 essays but made over 100 on my midterm and final. She gives extra credit options and the quizes and project are easy. The books were good and class discussion was great. Hint- the more you agree with her the better you will do learned that the hard way.
Good teacher!!! take her!!
She's not bad. Take her if you want an A!!
Pelegrin tries too hard with poems. If you're not very poetic and struggle deciphering poems then it's probably best you find another teacher.
She is a very good professor. She usually ends class early and if you submit a rough draft to her you receive bonus points. She's a good teache. I just wish she taught 102
Easy Grader, Just show up to class and participate and you'll get a easy A.
Show up to class, participate, easy A. Essay after essay but they're simple. Most likely to release class early a lot of the time unless you're reviewing poetry (her favorite.) Attendance is mandatory, it's ran like a high school class.
Just the right amount of snarkiness. Good assignments. Easy A for me.
Take her. She knows her stuff. Sweet lady.
She is such a great teacher. Your papers will count as test grades in her class so make sure you know what you're doing. If you show up to class, you will always have an idea of what your assignments should be in exact detail. I know English can be boring but do NOT skip, you won't know what's going on and you will fail.
I loved this class. She is an awesome teacher and makes writing poetry a joy! We get helpful feedback on our work and have a great time in class. If you just do your work correctly and show up to class, you will get an A. You have a poem due every week, reciting some poetry in front of class, a collaborative assignment, and 2 poetry workshops!
cant give clear instructions, grades way too hard, you dont get revisions on papers you turn it in as
OH MY GOD. The study guides are so hard!! It takes forever to complete them and she grades them very hard. The tests are very easy though. She is super sweet and responds very quickly to emails. The class itself is hard and I believe she is doing a pretty good job at lightening the work. Just don't wait until the last minute to do everything
She is a sweet teacher. Didn't like Kelly Link but she made stories okay.
This class is a ton of work, but the way she breaks it down makes it pretty easy. Just don't fall behind with the study guides and you should be fine. Test is all writing but it is open book and you can take as much time as you need. Prepare to put in the work but if you do it is an A. Study guides do take a lot of time though.
She always looks at the first page of your essay to check the thesis and how things are going. This helped me a lot. One thing I didn't like was how you have to be in class to get credit for work, but I didn't miss much.
One of the easiest professors I have taken. Essays only had to be 3 pages long. I waited till the last possible minute to write mine and still got a good grade every time. Does bring up politics ALL the time which can be annoying if you're not a liberal. After Trump won the election she came to class in all black like she was mourning lmfao.
She gets off topic in class. Slow to grade papers but gives a lot of feedback. Really cares for students and it shows .
Class was super easy, every day we just brainstorm ideas for essays and you could easily skip class for days and not really miss anything. There are only three essays that she grades pretty harshly. There are many grades given for just showing up or having the right materials.
I took her for English 101. She is an awesome teacher. Never be afraid to ask questions, she will help you in a heart beat. Easy grader
We wrote four essays the whole semester and she has a schedule to let you know when everything is due. MyWritingLAb is required for the class and so is the Crosscurrents book, you will have tests from it and we had our final out of there too. Do not miss class, two should be the most, because she makes the essays much more understandable.
I love Dr. Pelegrin! She's sarcastic and will put you in your place, but even if you show the slightest initiative, she will help you! Awesome teacher, awesome lectures, and super understanding.
Mrs pelegrin is a great teacher... for English majors. She grades very harshly on essays. She does actually care for her students though but will not tolerate unprepared papers. She does give alot of feedback before the final essay is due and will look through each essay to make sure you did what she wants you to do.
Very easy class. She grades papers easy. She is very nice and if you do everything required you are granted an A or B
Worst teacher at SELU. Super rude and not helpful at all. Graded everything super hard.
Do not consider taking Pelegrin online! Her assignments are vague, and when you email her for clarification she is still not clear. She waits until you submit your assignment and gives you a grade before she tells you what she wanted. I dropped the class despite working hard and having an A-. Left feeling defeated & never wanting to write again.
If you keep up with her coursework, youll get an A. Lowest grade I made was a 92 on the midterm. Doesnt grade too too hard.
Easy class, but time consuming. Study guides are 40% of your grade and due every Sunday. Put enough detail and show that you really tried and you will get full credit. 4 discussion posts that are 30% of your grade, very easy to get full credit. And midterm and final that are also 30% of your grade. Did not have to take final bc of high grade.
I took her online and it was an easy A. weekly study guides worth 50 points each and there are 4 discussion forums spread out through the semester. midterm and final are easy as well. if English is not your strong suit I recommend taking this class.
I learned more from Pelegin in our "The Writer's Life" class than I have from any other instructor in the last three years. Yes, she gave a lot of homework, but it wasn't anything too strenuous and she stuck to her word when she said she would not read personal entries in our daily writings. She allowed room for the creative spirit to flourish!
ONLINE CLASS! Was exactly what a literature class should be - lots of reading. The readings were interesting and weekly lectures were uploaded to help with understanding. Grading was weighted so that tests did not kill your grade. Do the work between the tests and you are sure to pass with a decent grade!
The lectures are fun if you like poetry! Definitely a little scattered but I haven't had any real problems in this class. If you participate a lot you will definitely get some brownie points! She does notice the people who are not that interested in the class or skip so if you have trouble making it to class def look somewhere else!
1.) Tests you on readings that were not included in the course description, then when you email her about it she doesn't respond. 2.) Mid-Class randomly without informing - switched moodle test to no backtracking;(can't check your answers b4 submit) 3.) Rude and Doesn't respond or go over answers for study guide so you never know what you missed.
Awful class. Beware! Class is described as writing poetry and workshops on poetry. We NEVER wrote any poetry in class or had a single workshop!! She instead makes the class a place to preach politics and political poems, NOT what she is supposed to do. Grades you on showing up to class. Assigns ridiculous and juvenile assignments. DO NOT TAKE.
It has been 2 years since I took this class but I still think about it it. No essays, only weekly "study guides" which were short answer questions you fill in the blanks after the readings. 4 forum discussions, a mid and final which were not difficult as long as you kept up with reading. I made an F with another professor but got an A in this class
Great professor! I took her for 102-H and 291-H, and both semesters I finished with a great grade and learned a lot from her feedback. This class is discussion based and she gives you a lot of creative freedom in writing. She also gives grades based of off short answer writing prompts in the beginning of class so attendance is important.
Took 102 and 291. Class is mandatory. Lots of readings in 102 during lectures and lots of reading outside of 291 lectures. Finished most assignments in 30 minutes. Shows concern for academics and performance. Emailed me about my well-being. Offers extra credit. Dropped my 0/50, which brought my B to an A. It's an easy class as long as you try.
As someone who was dreading taking another English class, I actually enjoyed this class; she makes it easy and understandable, take her! Class format is easy to follow. A good chunk of reading for each unit but doesn't take that long if you set aside time for it. Very kind and caring professor, especially with the "Moodler incident" this semester
DO NOT TAKE!!! - gives so much unnecessary reading - so RUDE - very snarky - does not care about helping students succeed ~ her entire course was an absolute bore for me (someone who likes English)
This professor is TERRIBLE at giving clear directions. I am constantly confused. When emailing her about assignments, she likes to give an attitude that can clearly be seen over email. I do NOT recommend her. I would take anyone else, but her. Also, she likes to give time limits on her tests, and the tests are long and confusing.
The professor has a specific teaching style, but engaging with it can be rewarding. Readings are extensive, but unstuckstudy can make prep more efficient. Attendance is a must, and the professor's communication style can be hit-or-miss.
As someone who really enjoys English, I did not like her class. She is very dismissive and rude if you try to email her and ask a question. She has a lot of homework and assignments, and the work is so tedious. I would not recommend.
