Organic chemistry is a tough subject, but Dr. Hare gives super helpful notes that outline what you need to know for the exams (you literally just have to fill in the blanks). She is really young, so she is still excited to be teaching and eager to help everyone succeed. As long as you study and pay attention in class, orgo isn't that bad.

Although it took me a while to warm up to Dr. Hare's teaching style (it is a little monotonous and boring), I came out of orgo loving her. Since she is a new teacher she is still working out the kinks in her teaching style, but her expectations are clear and as long as you understand the concepts in her Powerpoints you will be fine.

Still a young professor, but very excited about teaching. She will do everything she can to help you understand the concepts. Highly recommend her.

Outstanding teacher for orgo. Very clear and you can tell she is prepared (almost scripted) for class. Its only my 4th semester here, but from my experience there are only 2 competent orgo prof's available. Both are new, young, and into it. If you're a sophomore I advise you to take Hare! You'll learn a great deal. She cares.

Hare is a boss. Her lectures can be a little bit dry, but they're essential to doing well on test. Emphasis is placed more on the lecture than the book. Overall, she cares. If you do bad in the class, its completely your own fault.

No brainer for sophomore orgo. I think she's way better than male sulikowski and goes a bit more in depth than female sulikowski. Eye candy.

When I'm a professional, I hope to be like Dr. H. This semester has been a great life experience and I learned a lot of chemistry. Beyond science, I was able to interact with a dynamic, young, woman chemist. That has made all the difference for me.

The best orgo professor in vandy. Now that she's found her voice teaching (she was new this year) she's a great confident lecturer who is eager to help &clear at communicating. It's impossible to dislike her, she really cares for you &gives clear expectations. Also, grades very generously with partial credit. Orgo is orgo tho, so make sure to try.

This is for the sophomore classes. If you are a freshman see Townsend or Rizzo. Dr. Hare is great. Friends from the other courses were attending the Hare section instead of their prof. Nuff said. This was a great year for Orgo teachers.

Dr. Hare is one of the most caring professors that you'll ever have. The class is tough, as is any OChem class, but her tests are fair and she is always willing to provide students with extra help. The note packets she gives out are incredibly helpful as study guides. Utilize her study hours and get to know her. She is definitely worth knowing!

Dr. Hare is definitely one of the best professors I've had so far. She's super nice and helpful during office hours and does her best to make sure students really understand the material. You can tell she's really invested in her students' education. Tests have lower averages than Sulikowski's but she also curves. Definitely going to take her again

Hare is such a nice person. Gets to know her students if you let her and is always there to help. Hard exams because she wants to push you but find a kid who understands it and you'll be okay. Goes very fast in lecture so you should read before or after if you want to comprehend. 9/10 overall

Orgo is an extremely difficult class. Hare explains the material well by mainly giving examples of how to work different problems. She is very helpful during office hours and gives partial credit, but her tests are incredibly difficult. She is the better Orgo teacher, but her tests expect you to have memorized everything. Professor Hare is an excellent instructor. Her lectures are very clear, although sometimes she may go a bit quickly. She is extremely accessible outside of class, and sometimes even brings in her dogs during office hours to let us play with them. Tests can be difficult and require clear understanding of the material, but the curve is large.

Prof. Hare is great. She is very organized and kind. Her exams are pretty trivial as she uses long tests to force you to make mistakes rather than giving actually difficult problems. Its the chemistry version of bio-sci, you can memorize your way to an A.

The best science prof at school hands down. People hate the memorization but part of learning orgo involves memorizing the things you need for reactions. She has clear, easy to follow notes. She also offers extra credit throughout the semester during lecture. Use the reaction maps and handouts from class, they will help you succeed.

I had Dr. Hare for both semesters of Orgo, and she is one of my favorite professors at Vandy. She is so nice, and she is always willing to give help if you need it. She is definitely pretty hard though. Her tests are long and sometimes have hard ?'s, but they are fair and you get a nice curve. Definitely recommend taking her if you can.

Super sweet woman, amazing prof! As long as you put in the work, orgo is easy and completely manageable. She is very encouraging and kind, marks super leniently and gives extra credit. Also curves when necessary. Great office hours, easily accessible. Lectures explain concepts well, but she could provide more practice problems.

Dr. Hare is the best. Orgo is a rough way to go, but her exams are very straightforward. She really makes an effort to get to know her students and her passion for the subject comes out in her lectures (sometimes there are memes!). I've learned more from her than any other professor, and I highly recommend taking her if you have the chance!

Might come off at first as a tough professor (she is) but an extremely effective one at that. Class is useful for getting your notes filled in, but in my opinion office hours are where you learn the most, whether it's your own questions or listening to others. I came in with no organic chemistry experience and left the class rather confident.

Exams are hard but all pretty straightforward, as she is very clear about her expectations, and although the questions take more thinking than homework, there's nothing crazy on the exam. Dr. Hare is my favorite professor at Vanderbilt. She is kind and cares. The class is just lecture and the grade is based on 4 exams, a final, and discussion. She is accessible outside of class but office hours are generally packed. It's still nice to go and listen to others' questions though. She is also very quick to respond to emails and grade.

Tests were difficult. If you had her the for the first part of orgo, then you know her style. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone who hasn't taken her before because the change is drastic. She actually makes you learn chemistry and it isn't for the faint of heart. Loved her though

Dr. Hare is probably the best professor I've had at Vanderbilt. Of all the pre-med courses I've taken, her class was easily the most organized and well-structured. She genuinely cares for students and wants to see us succeed. At times, it can be frustrating because the other Ochem section seemed significantly easier than Dr. Hare's.

She is great at explaining the content, but especially towards the end of the semester, her lectures were way too fast to follow- never knew you could have too many examples, because then she rushes through them. Very nice in class, but me and others have experienced a bit of harshness and snobby-ness outside of class. A fine choice, but not best

Dr. Hare is very accessible outside of class (basically has office hours every day right before a test) and has always been helpful and kind in office hours. I dont agree with prior comments that she came off snobbish at all. I think people were upset the class wasnt curved very generously, but its a notoriously hard class with few As.

She is a really good lecturer and makes you actually learn the material. She does go pretty fast. The tests are harder than other sections, but you always know what to expect. It's not impossible to do well on them if you do a lot of practice problems. The curve isn't huge, but it's not unreasonable. I had an 88 in the class and got an A-.

Hare is great at explaining concepts in simple ways and giving examples for everything learned, but it's easy to feel like you know what's going on when you don't. Also, not a lot of transparency regarding what will be on the test and grade cutoffs. Very difficult exams require lots of practice and memorization.

Like many of the other comments, Dr. Hare is the right choice to make for organic. She has detailed lecture slides and her office hours are incredibly helpful. However, this class does require a substantial amount of effort on your part, but if you do everything she says (practice problems, read book and slides, etc.), you will do well. Good luck!

Orgo sucks but if you have to do it Dr. Hare is definitely the best choice. She's nice and tries to make her lectures enjoyable so you don't jump off the top of Stevenson.

Orgo is a tough class, but you have to take it with Dr. Hare. Her help outside of class is unmatched, and you WILL NEED HELP to do well in this class. You may think you're doing well at the beginning of the semester, but you can't let off the gas, as the content gets much harder. You gotta go to class.

Hare makes coming to class worth it. She's very knowledgeable, and answers ANY question, no matter how basic. She makes office hours as available as possible and also has open discussion board questions that she replies to within 12 hours. I recommend her 100% for orgo. Her tests might be hard, but you will excel if you put in the effort.

Dr. Hare is awesome. Her office hours are super helpful (she holds them 4-5 times/week). The only downside is the 50-minute exams are difficult time-wise, but if you take practice tests as if they were real, you'll be able to adjust. She is definitely still worth taking despite the shorter tests. Also, she sometimes brings her dogs to office hours!

Dr. Hare may very well be the best prof at vandy. Orgo is a BRUTAL class! But, Dr. Hare is an absolutely phenomenal teacher and person. She began offering office hours every day of the week to help us more. I can't explain how great she is. I'm taking her again for CHEM 2222 if that's any indication. 1000000000000% take her! Dr.Hare is an incredibly intelligent professor who is passionate about what she does. Her lectures are consistent and outline exactly what she is looking for when it comes to exams. Outside of class, she is just as amazing; she hosts office hours outside when the weather is nice, brings one of her pugs occasionally, and really tries to help.

The second semester of Orgo starts off strong with Spectroscopy, but the synthesis content on exams 2 and 3 get more difficult just due to the cumulative nature of the course. She always took the time to review a concept from 2221 if needed, and gave real-world application, which made the course much more engaging. Tests are fast paced, but fair.

Bottom line: You will hate yourself but love Alissa

Organic Chemistry is very tough, but Prof. Hare is such a good professor. Get ready to put a lot of time into this class, but Hare will help you mostly. Daily office hours, guides/visualizations, participation quizzes on Fridays, 3 exams and 1 final. Taking her again for Chem 2222

Hare is great professor, but Orgo 2 is really hard. Incredibly cumulative and she doesn't make the exams easy at all. You need to put in a ridiculous amount of time for a good grade.

She was an amazing professor. Really worked to make sure that students understood the material. However, her tests were extremely difficult, so if you are good at teaching yourself material, it's better to have an easier test with a different teacher.

Dr. Hare's test are genuinely so difficult. You have to go to office hours almost everyday and make Orgo your life to get an A in this class. It's possible but would not recommend if you are taking multiple STEM classes or have a lot going on. She is incredibly smart and a good professor but a lot of the class is self taught from the nature of Orgo

Amazing and sweet person! She's very open to questions and explains things very well. Exams are very difficult (as everyone has pointed out), but they're doable if you study about a week in advance. Best tip I can give is to practice practice practice; you need to be very familiar with all of the content in order to stand a chance on her exams

Hare is MOTHER. She's so clearly meant to teach-- she explains thing really clearly and offers office hours 4 times a week. Her exams are definitely harder than others, but if you study the material, it's completely attainable. I don't think I would be as prepared for CHEM2222 or the MCAT if I took someone else. Genuinely the best.

Dr. Hare is a very good teacher, but be aware that her tests are also extremely difficult. You need to put in lots of time to keep up with the material, and you must practice on your own. Her lectures are very well-planned and there are Friday participation quizzes that give points outside of tests. She is a great teacher but will really push you.

I'm gonna be real- Hare's exams are HARD. But they're very doable with consistent practice outside of class. Lectures are great at introducing topics, but it's up to you to develop the skills presented in class for more complex contexts. She also has COVID lectures online in case you miss. This class almost made me lose my mind, but Hare is great.

Dr. Hare is amazing! She is very caring, supportive, and has plenty of office hours. Tests make you think outside the box, but doing the textbook problems will help with the skills. Go to class! It's easy to fall behind when missing a lecture or two. I feel well prepared for orgo 2 taking Dr. Hare's class.

Dr. Hare is fantastic. Very accessible (4 office hrs/wk), clear/online-available lectures, and fair tests. Preview content prior to class, do the practice problems, ask questions, and you'll do stellar. Grades are curved one letter grade up. Partial credit is extremely generous. If there was one professor I'd make sure to take, it would be Hare.
