excellent teacher and very approachable
He's the best teacher in the bio dept. Just outstanding, and his lectures are funny and entertaining too! Very difficult exams, so be prepared.
Excellent teacher. Record the lectures and type out the notes. Book not required. You will learn more in this semester than any other class... great for MCAT prep. By far the best teacher I have had. Not too approachable, but overall a 10!
Lots of information. Study every night to get a good grade. If confused ask questions
tough class. key to success is noting down every detail in lecture and understanding the concepts
AWESOME TEACHER!!! Highly recommend! Class is not extrememely difficult as long as you keep up with the material and ask questions if confused. Lectures are very interesting and informative...learned a lot in this class!
AMAZING...you will get so much out of his class...entertaining, informative...don't let others scare you from the class with its difficulty, it is more than manageable if you pay attention during lecture and take good notes. HIGHLY recommended!
Dr. Cullum is a pretty cool, funny guy. He speeds through lectures because there is alot of material to cover. The class is very interesting and is supposedly a great MCAT prep. The tests are horrible though - not necessarily hard, but the questions are ambiguous, poorly-worded, try to trick you, and aren't indicative of what you know.
Incredibly intersting for me but covers a TON of material...I recorded most lectures and this helped a bunch. Take this class but don't buy the book and be prepared for quite a bit of work.
OK...He's not hot. But either way, my main advice is WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING THAT HE SAYS AND STUDY THE OLD TESTS LIKE ITS YOUR JOB. Interesting class, challenging, moves very quickly, as a pre-med I really liked the class and worked very hard for my B.
Dr. Cullum's class was awesome. All the tests except the final are take-home. Have to write a 15 page paper and do a presentation, but its not too bad.
Most informative class I have had at Creighton. Very challenging because you take notes entirely off lectures, with no overheads. If you want to do well in this class, be sure to set aside a LOT of time for studying.
intelligible guy but OMG so hard to retain all the information he gives you!!!! you will need a lot of time to study this stuff and a love for the subject to get an A
Awesome prof! Class consists of TONS of information, so write down EVERYTHING and record lectures in case you missed anything. Go into to see him often, he's very helpful and tries to help you understand. Cares very much for his students to do well in his course.
Animal Phys is the best class I have taken, and also the most helpful for the MCAT. I aced the BIO section because of him.
I loved this class and it's not too hard at all. Lots of info.
Very intelligent professor and he def knows his stuff. The class and the material are tough though, Dr. Cullum will definately push you, and you'll have to work for your grade but in the end its a great class and you'll learn a lot!
Not too hard but the labs are kind of all over the place. Overall, I would recommend this class to satisfy a lab requirement.
Dr. Cullum was an excellent professor. He posts all powerpoints online and tests come directly from those notes. He also gives a detailed study guide before each test. He keeps lectures lively and entertaining and cracks some crass and hilarious jokes during class. You're allowed to miss 9 class periods. I never dreaded going to class.
The greatest professor I've had in the Biology department. The class involves lots of material, but he presents everything clearly and usually throws a couple of funny jokes in there along the way. If you take good notes and study hard you can do well.
If you're pre-med definitely consider taking this class. Literally everything he covers will be on the MCAT. He will tell you exactly everything you need to know in lecture so take good notes and study hard. The material is pretty complex, but if you find it interesting (which I did), it's not a huge problem
Does his best to get the interest of the students. He's a great professor. Way better than. Vinton. He makes funny jokes all the time. Take him.
I enjoyed that stuff that Dr. Cullum taught in bio 212, but it wasn't easy. His study guide helped a lot and was very useful for the tests. He's also very funny.
LOVE Cullum. He's hilarious, makes class fun, and is very intelligent and well versed in the subject matter. He talks kinda quick for notes, but pay attention and you'll learn a lot.
I really like Cullum. He's really smart, but easy to understand. He's funny too. (Puts funny answers on the tests.) I'm so glad I took him over Burke, you learn way more in Cullum - and more interesting things too. The lab actually corresponds with the lecture too. Unlike Burke's class. Take him.
Take Dr. Cullum! He is a wonderful teacher, very clear to understand, and is super funny! It is not super easy, but no BIO class is because they need to weed out Pre Med kids. Take him otherwise you will spend the whole semester on Evolution if you take Burke! Cullum is the way to go and I hope to take more classes from him if I get the chance!
At first this class seemed fair as long as you put in the work. WRONG. As the semester went on he became lazier and lazier, he did not grade exams and quizzes up until the end of the semester which made it VERY difficult to study for the final exam. Class is mandatory although he stresses it is optional. His videos do not cover all. BE WARNED.
This is by far the most difficult class I have ever taken in my entire life! Even if you spend your entire life studying it is so hard to even get close to a good grade. My advise is to never take this class from him. He is a very nice guy, but his class is ridiculously hard!
Not sure what the other person is talking about but I loved Dr. Cullum! His lectures never got boring. The material is manageable! The exams are only from lectures. Study guides are posted for each exam and they help A LOT! Overall, Dr. Cullum is a very nice guy and is always glad to help out with anything!
This class was definitely challenging for a 100 level course. Grades are based mainly on 4 exams. Lectures are organized on slides which were very straightforward, but they were not always posted in time for class. Exams were very challenging. Study the slides and take the practice exams to see how he writes his exam questions.
He is a great teacher and he knows his stuff. He keeps class interesting. He makes jokes occasionally and he is sure to help you out whenever you have questions. He is very straightforward about what will be on the test and you know exactly what to study.
Dr Cullum is a wonderful person. He plays funny animal clips and we watched a stag beetle fight once. I was absent for a test for one reason or another but he was very nice about my taking a make-up and he provided a pencil. Be warned that he is very busy so you do need to be persistent if you need something.
Best Gen Bio professor for OrgPop. He covers a lot of material over the semester as opposed to some of the other professors who get caught up on evolution the whole semester. Lectures are long and usually pretty boring but as a mandatory Bio class I would pick Cullum over the other professors. Tests are only over lectures.
The hardest bio 201 teacher available at Creighton. You have to really work for whatever grade you earn, but you really learn the material. He always has witty things to say during lecture that makes you really like him as a guy even if you despise his tests!
Cullum is the man. He's a huge nerd and he knows it and embraces it. Mixes clever, witty jokes throughout his lectures that are genuinely hilarious. While at the same time teaching you what you need to know and blatantly telling you what you don't need to do know. Made Biostats very interesting and relevant.
Loved him. This was a huge class w/ lots of material so that was difficult but he explained everything really clearly. Expectations very clear. I went in for help when my grade wasn't doing well and he was really patient and helpful. Grandpa died before final and Cullum was super accommodating. Admitted mistakes and even raised the grade cutoffs.
Never takes up the entire designated time slot, which is nice. Lectures can get dry, but then Cullum will throw in some unsuspected hilarious comment about how inbreeding in populations leads to awkward family reunions and everyone laughs. Assignments are all online, and they aren't hard. I would recommend reading the book! Tests are okay.
Dr. Cullum is truly amazing in the way he teaches. Although I fall asleep in his classes, his bluecast lectures are spectacular to watch. He's funny during the lectures and I definitely recommend him.
He's a great professor. For me personally the tests were tough. If you know how to study, you will be perfectly fine. He is also very good at explaining if you need any help. Great guy.
I love Cullum! He covers all of the material for the course in a decent manner. Loved how I had already learned the material in lecture before covering it in lab, as opposed to the frustration I saw from my peers taking the lecture from another professor and had no idea what was going on. Take him if you want to learn bio!
Incredible professor. Fast but informative. Somehow, he could always find humor in biology to make it interesting. The material followed along exactly with bio lab so it's really two birds with one stone. If you actually want to learn biology, take Cullum not burke. You might struggle in 202 if you do not take Cullum.
Dr. Cullum's class is a lecture, so obviously expect to be doing mostly aural work. However, he fills his lectures with SimBio exercises (online questions where you can see the entire class' answers after - they're usually quite amusing) and other things to keep you from falling asleep. If you take notes and read the chapters, you will do well!
Amazing biology lecturer. There's a ton of content in general biology but he manages to cover it all and make sure you actually learn it too. Fast paced class but lectures aren't hard to follow and tests aren't bad at all (all multiple choice). Great teacher, definitely take him if you have the chance.
His tests are hilarious. There are extra credit (EC) problems, too. IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE TO TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, TAKE HIM. He's a great first professor to have. It's obvious he cares about students. Ever need help? Email him. He responds. Go to his office hours. He's so kind and understanding. He gives a lot of EC on top of the EC on exams.
Dr. Cullum is an amazing professor. He knows how to keep the classes engaged and laughing. He does go quite fast in lecture but if you print out the powerpoints before hand and take notes on that and rewatch on Bluecast you should have no problem getting all the necessary information. Lots of online hw but it is completion. Take him if you can!!!
Dr. Cullum is a very nice man and is very educated in the subjects that he teaches. His class is lecture heavy and you need to understand his powerpoints in order to do well on the exams. As long as you study for his exams, you will do well in his class. He has weekly mastering biology assignments that will boost your grade if you do them.
Absolutely hilarious, knows all the in-depth information about what he discusses, and very kind. Posts all of his lectures on Blueline so you technically don't have to go to class, though there are Learning Catalytics assignments during some lectures. Study guides are long but very helpful, and he posts past exams online to help you study. Amazing.
Dr. Cullum does a good job considering the difficulty lecturing to hundreds of students. The slideshows are good, but he sometimes goes too fast to write everything word for word; however, they are available online for you to preview, print off, or review. Tests are pretty easy - all multiple choice or true/false; he prepares you well for them.
He has a great sense of humor and I honestly love him as a professor. He is very understanding and accommodating to anyones needs. If the website was down, he will most likely give you the point for it if its a legitimate excuse. He is very approachable for any questions and is helpful if you choose to go to his office hours.
Cullum is an amazing teacher but at times goes too fast through the lectures. All of the lectures are online but if you are not very good at biology I do not recommend him.
I don't have a good biology background, nor do I like it, but Dr. Cullum makes learning about it extremely enjoyable. His lectures are hilarious, he's extremely accommodating to students, and he's always willing to go out of his way to make sure that his students succeed. An all around good guy.
Dr. Cullum is the BEST professor I have ever had. I never used to have an interest in biology but his lectures were so interesting and he made the material so much easier to understand. He is also hilarious in lecture and makes jokes. He gives great PowerPoint notes that the tests are based off of and also great study guides. Tests aren't hard.
Love him!!! One of my favorite professors. Bio is not my favorite subject but Cullum makes it very fun with his side jokes and entertaining videos throughout lectures. Can sometimes go a little fast during lecture but the lectures are recorded and the powerpoints are posted so that is not a problem. Puts extra credit questions on tests!
He is extremely an extremely fair and reasonable professor. The lectures are great and it's clear he cares about our success.
Cullum himself was so funny and made lectures entertaining. He also really cares about helping his students and although lecture had over 100 students, he would respond to my emails within minutes. However, the tests were pretty difficult. My best advice is to review his power points before tests and make quizlets if you need.
Cullum is a funny guy but his tests are difficult. You really have to know the material inside and out, and there is a lot of material.
Cullum is a terrific teacher. He makes any of the boring subjects in biology interesting with his humor and does not drop a big workload on you. He is very slow reacting to emails but either than that he is a very good teacher.
Best BIO 201 professor at Creighton! I recommend his class. He knows the information inside and out. He also loves to make class more interesting with jokes or learning catalytics to make sure everyone is paying attention. His class is fast paced but you can rewatch it online so if you want to rego over it, you're fine. Take this class!
Cullum was a nice guy and easy to ask questions to, but if you aren't reading the textbook outside of class and rewatching lectures to get better notes, don't expect an A. He does have homework assignments throughout the semester which helps grade wise if you do bad on a test. Also, your lowest test grade is worth half the percent the rest are at.
Reads off the slides in class. He does attendance by an online question during class. Look at past tests and study guides posted. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK!! it was the biggest waste of money! just buy the online homework
Dr. C is a hilarious and approachable guy. However, it's hard to keep up during lecture, so rewatching them later is a must. Tests are challenging but not impossible.
Dr. Cullum is a great guy. There's a lot of material covered so lectures move fast- be prepared to study outside of class time. Only a few big tests, so make sure you do all of the homework. The book was basically useless for this class. Look at old tests and study guides. Lectures are recorded. Overall interesting class and great professor!
I absolutely loved Dr. Cullum. He really lightens the atmosphere with corny jokes or amusing examples, and reminds you class can be as fun as it is educational. His lectures were a little long-winded, but extremely informative. I suggest listening to the lectures and then refer back to the slide notes/recorded lectures to cover notes.
Professor Cullum is a great guy and his class is reasonable. The material from his tests is based off of notes and he does go rather fast during class so I would suggest printing off the slides before class. 80% of your grade is based on exams and there are only 3 plus a final so make sure to keep up and study a lot.
Cullum is awesome. His lectures are clear and entertaining. He explains complicated concepts in an easy-to-understand fashion. His lectures are recorded online, so I would go to lecture to be introduced to the material and would later rewatch the lectures online to take more detailed notes, as he does go fast. He's hilarious. 10/10 dad jokes.
Cullum is a great BIO teacher. His tests can be tricky, but he gives you pre-tests that you can use to study. The dude is soooo funny, he cracks jokes every class period and on his exams. There are 4 exams and that is the majority of your grade, plus there is weekly online homework.
Absolute dream of a lecture professor. Definitely moves quickly but makes content incredibly easy to process and retain. Tests aren't awful and he has the class laughing daily at his boomer humor
Cullum's a real jokester, and he makes BIO lecture a lot easier to deal with. The recorded lectures saved my life. USE THEM. Your grade is 80% exams, 14% online assignments, & 6% attendance, which is taken by an online activity every class (ask a friend to text you know when, it's all online). Explains the stuff, great teacher, but BIO is tough.
Dr. Cullum is one of the best Bio professors and I personally think he can be really funny. If you take him be prepared for a lot of dad jokes, even on tests. I would recommend you go to the lectures as often as you can as there are surveys that are part of your grade and he will often say things that might be on a test but aren't written on slides
Dr. Cullum does a good job. His lectures are not dry, and he has interactive learning with the in-lecture questions. These are not graded, but they count for your attendance. He is funny and provides a lot of online resources to prepared for the class exams.
Take him! He has a dad jokes sewn into almost every lecture! Hes super nice and interacts with students outside of class! Go to office hours hell basically tell you what to study for the test and take the old exam because there will be 3 or 4 questions from those exams on the new one
I daresay he is the best Biology professor at Creighton and is my favorite instructor so far. Provides you with tests from past years to help study and gives a bit of extra credit on every test. Grading is fair and clear, and he is pretty accessible in office hours. Keeps lectures fun with jokes injected here or there.
Cullum is great! If you're a freshman I'd highly recommend taking him for gen bio. There were 3 multiple-choice exams for 70% of the grade, and each one had solid joke answers on it .
Cullum is an amazing professor. He lectures flawlessly, and his tests are taken completely from his lectures. As long as pay attention in class and review before tests, youll get an A.
Had him for first semester BIO and I think he's an amazing choice. His lectures are filled with dad jokes that make them interesting. There are never surprises on the tests and gives you plenty of old exams and study guides to prepare.
Dr. Cullum is by far my favorite science prof I've had. I wasn't expecting to enjoy bio, as ecology isn't my cup of tea (and that's the bulk of 201), but his lectures are engaging, and he always has a few jokes. If you pay attention in lecture and do practice tests while studying you'll do fine. There's always a few extra credit questions on exams.
Take Cullum. He is an amazing professor and loves cracking dad jokes. His tests are taken entirely from his lectures so just review his lectures before taking the tests, and you should have no problem getting an A. My favorite professor so far- take him, I promise you won't regret it.
Dr. Cullum is the best professor for taking gen bio. The material is hard, but he tries his best to help you understand it and make it interesting. He is really caring and easy to talk to. He also always has extra credit on his tests and gives you his old tests as a study tool. Great guy and makes a lot of dad jokes.
Cullum is amazing! Lectures are genuinely good- at least one good joke a lecture. Tests are super straightforward and he gives you old tests which are super useful in doing concept review. Online homework can be frustrating at times, so I would suggest doing it with friends to make it better.
I really enjoyed Dr. Cullum's lectures, but they're not for everyone if you can't focus in a big lecture setting. He gives a decent amount of homework but it helps to round out your grade from the exams. The materials he gives to study are usually very on par for the exam, so if you study you can get a decent grade. He's also got good jokes.
Dr. Cullum was a great professor. My only objection with this class was that it was really test heavy, but all of the Gen Bio classes are like that here at Creighton! This class is hard no matter who you take it with but Cullum is very approachable and explains things very well. His practice tests are very useful to help you to study!
Was put into a harder bio because of my bad advisor, so it was extremely difficult for me (I'm not a STEM major), but I loved Dr. Cullum. He was such a caring professor and you could tell he thoroughly enjoyed having all of us even though the class was large. I think if you're STEM you will have an easier time than me and enjoy Dr. Cullum!
I loved Cullum. He was very funny and provided recorded lectures, which were definitely necessary because of how fast he goes through notes. I would recommend an iPad for taking notes if possible, but I just rewatched lectures a week before the test in 2x speed and was able to get an A. Definitely recommend! Mastering bio answers always on quizlet!
Cullum had entertaining and interesting lectures, and recorded all of them; very friendly and willing to answer questions. For each exam, he posted study guides and many past exams that were helpful for studying. Our grade was determined by four exams, homework, and in-class activities. I did not have to read the book to do well.
He was a fine professor, but It is super easy to get behind. There are online assignments each week, but they are easy. He gives out study guides for each test and records his lectures. If you pay attention in lectures and study outside class for a reasonable amount of time, you should be fine.
Online assignments due almost every week. Before exams, he does review sessions and posts old exams. There were around four exams which were all multiple choice. The lectures can get boring since its just gen bio but his dark sense of humor makes it better.
Dr. Cullum is a very good professor I had him to 201 lecture and 206 lab (202 lab). His lectures are very long but he stops to ask questions. If you come to class prepared, you will be fine. Review the lecture notes before exams and take the practice exams he provides and you will do amazing! 10/10 professor
Dr. Cullum is a solid choice for Gen Bio II lab! He is very helpful, patient, and kind. He knows exactly what he is talking about and explains answers to questions in a straightforward and easy-to-understand way. Expectations in his class (and BIO 206 in general) are very clear.
Go to the lecture and take good notes. Also, utilize video lectures when studying. Hilarious professor and very engaging. Very helpful outside of class. Honestly used the textbook maybe 3 times, but it was necessary for those three times so maybe pool in with some friends to share or rent.
His class was fairly hard for me, a pre-med student who doesn't have a strong bio background, so I would consider the course difficult, although he does a good job explaining it. He also does lots of things to help your grade such as making your worst score count half as much, giving a retake for tests 1/2, and even lowering the grade cutoff .5%.
He is so funny, not a lecture goes by where I don't laugh. I would utilize the recorded lectures when studying, you also need to purchase a couple things for this class but not much. He explains things very well and does review sessions before exams. Utilize a study schedule and you will be great.
Cullum is a fantastic professor. His lectures are funny, he posts his old tests online so you can practice, and seems genuinely interested in student success. Out of the two Bio 201 teachers (himself and Taylor) he would almost unanimously be voted as the more difficult one but a good grade is more than achievable provided you pay attention/study.
Cullum is the funniest guy, and he's a very succinct professor. Incredibly structured class, and he provides like a decade of old exams that are great for preparation. Everything on the exams is in the material that's assigned, so don't overlook anything, but if you do that, you'll have a great time with him. He's also great prep for the next bio.
Dr. Cullum was really funny and made lectures interesting. He also stopped frequently to answer questions. The bulk of your grade is on 4 exams, but he holds review sessions before each one. This class is not super difficult, just make sure to take good notes, and study. I would definitely recommend Dr. Cullum for BIO 201.
Dr. Cullum is an amazing professor, his lectures are hilarious. Your lowest exam's weight gets cut in half, which is really nice. The homework does take quite a while, though. His exams are tougher than Taylor's but I'd say its worth taking his class, I barely studied and still got an A, so its doable.
Dr. Cullum is a great guy but if you did not have any prior Biology experience don't take his class. It is a hard class that you have to really prepare for. His lectures were interesting, but most of the time I had to look back on the videos as there is a lot of information you need to memorize.
Cullum is a great professor and as long as you pay attention in class and do the homework you will do well.
Dr. Cullum was a very good BIO 201 professor. His lectures were informative and he made them as entertaining as he could. His exams are difficult but if you study a lot you will do well.
Exams are harder than Taylor's, but he is so sweet and genuinely cares about his students.
the lectures are long but its worth going just for the jokes. not one class that I didn't laugh
Great professor. If you put in the effort, you would get an A. There was never any surprise material on the tests; everything was straight from the slides. Offered a little bit of free extra credit on each test.
Dr. Cullum is funny and makes lectures very entertaining. Tests cover everything in lecture. But, only what he talks about in lecture is on the tests. Old exams are useful to study! He lectures fast, and I would recommend rewatching old lectures if you miss a part or need further clarification. He is approachable and helpful in review sessions.
Dr. Cullum is an amazing professor and is very funny. Not much I can say that hasn't already been said, but be prepared to study a lot if you take him. You do have to memorize a lot of information for tests, but I would say the tests are more about understanding and applying the info rather than just spewing it out. Take him if you want to learn.
I liked his lectures! His exams and content were difficult, but he posted all of his previous exams- like the last 12 semesters. They were a great study tool and his exam format was always very similar. The T/F questions were tough but he always had extra credit survey questions at the end of the exams and no FRQ's!
Cullum is the best, his lectures are so funny and he tries to make them as entertaining as possible. You definitely need to study a lot for his exams, but he posts a study guide and tons of practice exams that are pretty similar to the actual exam.
Dr. Cullum likes to sneak jokes into his lectures and will almost always let you out 20 minutes early. The assignments are not hard. Tests can be challenging but he gives you all the topics you need to know. He talks fast but he always uploads the slides and recordings so you can go back and rewatch what you missed.
Dr. Cullum is an amazing professor who genuinely cares about his students. His lectures are also amazing as he makes biology actually fun. His tests are easy to study for since they are based off of the slides that he posts and he also gives you lots of old exams to study from as well. Overall, I would definitely take him again.
As long as you show up to class and pay attention you should do very well. The lectures are usually only 45 minutes and he makes a lot of jokes to make them entertaining. The tests are not too difficult and he posts previous years tests for you to use as practice. He is a great teacher and he makes it easy to succeed in his class.
Please take this professor. He is very knowledgeable about the content he is teaching. He presents all the info needed to know for the exams. I would recommend to rewatch lectures from class when studying for exams. He makes class engaging and cracks jokes from time to time.
Great class. Large lecture hall can seem intimidating but lectures, tests, and other assignments are very straight forward. Tests are not too bad, just require studying and a bit to get used to. Your grade is really up to how much effort is put in.
Class wasn't awful. Taylor is known to be easier bio teacher tho
If you do not have a biology background do not take him. The test questions are insanely difficult along with tests being weighted so heavily on your grade. This class was one that I put an insane amount of study time and effort into and that does not reflect in my final grade whatsoever.
