One of the worst teachers I have ever had.
I have now had her for two classes, and both of them have been very fun, even though research projects aren't generally a barrell of laughs. She's very helpful and will always offer feedback if you ask her about anything. I recoment her for any class.
Brilliant Woman, her interest is evolutionary psych, so catch her at her best. She often does not seem to take into consideration that information is not easy to comprehend. I took a research class, and I hate research, I often went to help, I talked to other professors for help, thats how bad it was. She is a nice woman, but I found it difficult.
She is a nice person. Thats it. It could have been a very easy class but she is a tough grader. She grades you as if you were all doctors like she is. Don't get her when she is in a bad mood. She will make you feel that you are inconveniencing her. She expects you to be at her level and she is known for being a very tough grader.

I think that she is an excellent teacher. She has a great setup for the research paper that was spread throughout the semester. It helped a lot. She is very helpful and understanding. I recommend her to everyone!!!
Honestly, if you took a psychology class in highschool, take this class because it is a piece of cake. If you can though, don't take it with Cousins. I think she is actually just way to smart to teach this level so she comes across in a way that makes you want to either get up and leave or just pass out on your desk.
interesting subject if it was taught by someone else...not clear, not helpful, not funny....don't have to go to class if you don't want to though
u have a few hw assignments over the semester...a total of 10 labs....a big project at end of semester and 4 tests....she will help u if u go 4 her for help...he in class assignments are boring and so is her lecture.
She is a great teacher. A little boring but extremely helpful. If you don't understand something she will help you in any way she can. One page cheat sheets for all the tests.
Very helpful teacher. Great professor to have with hard subject material.
She's a nice lady, the exams aren't too bad you just have to study. You'll learn a lot... it's a cool class.
She's a great teacher. Very helpful and nice. If you take notes in the class, it'll be a breeze, and she's interesting so it's not that boring. Def. take her.
Great class. Organized power points.
I have taken two classes with Dr.Cousins now. She is EXTREMLY cheerful and nice! Always comes to class with a positive attitude. Makes you feel very comfortable in her class. She is very funny as well, I would highly recommend her!
She is incredibly upbeat and involved in her subject. There wasn't a single class that I checked the time to see when it would be over. Her examples are weird at times, but that just adds to the fun of the course. Cousins is an amazing teacher and brilliant
Great Teacher! I took her for Research Methods and the class was very easy, far easier than I expected. I attribute that to Alita's great teaching abilities. She's a very smart and intelligent woman, but what really makes her stand out is how she is such a great teacher! She's always friendly, positive, and upbeat. I recommend her exponentially!
Not very empathetic when it comes to disability accomaddations. Somehow I always left my conversations wit her feeling disappointed somehow.
She made class fun, with daily questions. She used power points and videos. Everything in the tests were in the notes.
Often unhelpful in research methods and defensive when asking her about her critiques. Told multiple people to run one test and then got upset saying we had to run another.
I've only had her for an intro to the psych major course. Seems like a good teacher, she is upbeat and lighthearted. She seemed to have a good relationship with students she had from previous classes. Just enough work. Didn't have any exams. Knows a lot about psych
She's a great teacher! Everything she uses or says in class will be on the exam. She makes learning very interesting. Her assignments are very easy and the exams were all multiple choice.
This class was incredibly boring. She does not make the class interesting at all. Being a Junior, I have taken many Psychology classes and she is my least favorite professor I have ever had. She is not easy to contact, and she is never in her office during office hours.
Not necessarily the most captivating professor, but her class was fascinating. She can definitely get the class laughing at times. Totally reasonable and understanding.
At times her lecturing can be boring, but she does her best to keep students interested. There is a lot that can be learned from her and she is a very approachable professor. I recommend her evolutionary psychology class, please not the subject matter may be unsettling for some. She is a great educator and a valuable asset to the department.
She can be a tough grader at times, takes off points for not capitalizing and italicizing on write ups. Over all a very nice person. Just be respectful to her and she will be the same to you.
Her classes really aren't as hard as some people think they are. She's the kind of professor you either like or you don't. But if you won't make the effort, you can't blame her (many students do). Her ev psych class is great (some subject matter may not be for all students) and she is always available for help and friendly conversation.
Professor Cousins is an amazing person. I scroll down the list of psychology courses every semester to see if she is teaching a class I need to take; she's my go-to professor at all times. If you do the work and take good notes on the lectures you will do just fine. She loves when students participate, so ask questions and voice your opinions!
Dr. Cousins is such a sweetheart! Her videos in class are funny and tie in with the material learning. She likes to bounce back between topics which makes the class engaging. The only issue is the boring powerpoint slides & tests are hard. Study guides are well written out! Hard to reach outside of class & never checks emails.
The class can get boring but she is extremely helpful. She knows a lot about psych and cares for her students. Homework is not hard but is a tough grader. Easy A as long as you do the work.
I love professor Cousins!!!! Best professor ever. Her lectures are clear and easy to follow, making it very easy to study for her exams. Exams are really easy if you know the material-there are no curve balls. She also has review guides for each exam to tell you exactly what is on the exams making it really easy to study. Plenty of extra credit.
Good teacher. Homework graded by TA. The first test is always harder than the other 3. Final is all multiple choice.
This was a required course and before taking it I had heard some things about professor Cousins. In the class, there were multiple times I was raising my hand and others around me would get help. I had sent multiple emails to the professor throughout the semester and I didn't get any response to any of them.
I took her intro to psych class and she was so easy, every homework you get 100 for just handing it in. There was no final the only grades were attendance and homework. Don't skip her class it is a waste and will ruin your grade even though the lecture can be boring.
I was failing this class in the beginning of the semester but once I took the following exams I started to pass them and my grade went up significantly. The exams aren't that difficult but the first one kind of was. Make sure to pay attention to the syllabus because she won't always mention when the hw is due. She does accept late hw and gives E.C
I would not recommend this class. The teacher reads off of powerpoints and you write them down. You could teach yourself by reading them, but attendance is mandatory and will affect your grade. The curriculum is very difficult
Dr. Cousin's classes are interesting and easy to immerse yourself into. I am not the greatest note taker and still did very well primarily just sitting in class and absorbing the material. Dr. Cousins makes this easy by presenting the material in a way that captures your attention and keeps you listening throughout class. I never felt bored, 10/10!
Took PSY330 and hated each minute of class. Interesting topics but presented very dryly. Lectures boring. Strictly read off awfully made powerpoint slides, occasionally watch a cringey video related to the topic of the day. Never seemed to really fully grasp the concept she was teaching. Would present a fact and be unable to give source/references
Dr. C is a great prof. MAke sure you read the syllabus she rarely mentions hw that is due soon! Also bullet points for the hw probably won get your the full points, make sure you go a bit into detail. She uses the book only for a few things in the beginning of the semester. Make sure to take good notes some of the stuff is a bit ahrd to follow!
Dr. Cousins is amazing. She is very encouraging and loves what she does. She is very relatable too. Her assignments are easy, but can be difficult if you don't follow her directions. If you show up to class and put the work into the assignments, you will succeed. Tests will be difficult if you don't study, but there are only 4 including the final.
Do NOT take this class with this professor. Tests are so hard and she expects soooo much from you in the discussion posts (due every week). There are also quizzes every week. She doesn't even explain the material at all, she just posts powerpoints that are legit bullet points that dont explain anything. Do. not. take. this. course. with. her.
Took the hardest class of the major and I regretted it. She grades harshly and having it online did not help. She used powerpoints from RM1 which did not help and did not have same standards for students. She seemed really nice but having her teach this hard class online was not easy at all i felt like i was always lost and confused and failing
I had a lot of issues in terms of how she formatted the online lectures. Was not able to help me or be understanding of technical issues I was having in viewing the lecture material. The course was very much run like a global pandemic is not happening. Lots of time-consuming projects overlapped with the major due dates for the proposal.
Definitely my least favorite professor at ECSU. Lectures are boring and drag on for far too long, but she manages to go too fast for most to write. Material on powerpoints is poorly organized and is not useful. If you hand over an assignment in person, there is a good chance she will lose it and you will be blamed for it, several peers confirmed.
Professor Cousins is tuff but a fair professor. She makes you work for the grade. She loves what she does and takes the subject personally. She is insightful and cares about her students. She is often available for extra help and responds to emails in a timely manner. She treats her students with the same respect her students give her.
Do NOT take this Professor. I made the mistake of not listening to the low ratings on here and taking her class and they couldnt be more true! Most boring Professor, toughest grader, and she can never back up her claims with evidence like she doesnt know what shes talking about. I warned you guys!
This professor is generally friendly and very talkative. I had the textbook for this class but I only used it once so I don't think it's necessary for the class. She's not easygoing with the students so try not to miss any homework.
By far the worst professor I have had here.If you're taking this class with Dr. Cousins, honestly good luck. Be prepared to sit through boring common sense lessons with complete monotone the entire time, and when it comes to the homework, even if you do it completely right, you'll still get at least a 8/10 at most.
easy class. all quizzes and exams are online. there's a textbook but you honestly don't need it. the only homework is discussion posts usually weekly. classes are usually just listening to her lecture and watching clips. she's very friendly and understanding. typically no late work accepted tho.
Dont get the textbook, its not needed unless you want to read it yourself for fun. Theres weekly assignments but its only a discussion post. Basically you just need to show up to class for attendance and do the homework assignments and its an easy A. Class is just lecture of her reading a slideshow but the info is very helpful for psych majors!
I wouldn't ever take one of her classes again. Do not get textbook it's not needed. She uses every single slide, she never noticed people on their phones. She's grades very hard, her final isn't easy either if you never paid attention in class. I recommend using the psych tutors bc she won't help you.
She's not an understanding teacher at all. She doesn't care what you're going through, and will undermine your situation if it involves the your grade or work she assigns. Does not compromise at all, and can be very nasty over email. Also, takes attendance on random days, and uses it against you if you don't show up for a class before break.
Absolutely wonderful professor. The lectures are really interesting and she really cares about her students. I like her teaching style, it works well for me. This class should be an easy A, and if you're struggling, Dr. Cousins is a great resource and super kind.
Very inconsistent grader, you can revise a paper three times over and receive the same grade you originally had even after using her own advice. I find it rare for a Professor to be the one with the attitude opposed to the student but she can be suprisingly rude. Only take her courses if it is NOT a course requirement so you can escape if you need.
Doctor Cousins makes passing her classes ridiculously hard. She assigns weekly quizzes that have four questions, and most of these are trick questions. Because there are so few questions, if you get one wrong you basically fail. She also assigns labs at the same time your paper's drafts are due. These labs require as much work as your thesis.
I would never take her class again. A very ridiculous professor. She took almost half points off of my midterm because I accidentally handed It in and had a breakdown when I emailed her about it. She pinned the blame on me and tried to fail me for the rest of the semester. She's a very harsh grader and inconsiderate. Don't any of her classes!
The Professor is well organized, has a good schedule, active in class, and excellent communication. She was the most that I think was very calm and best at being an instructor. Even though I have had so many great teachers, she is the first one that made me not as scared to talk to and that she was not intimidating which made feel more comfortable.
very encouraging! I always second guess myself especially in math classes. professor cousins always encouraged me to participate instead of second guessing myself! very good about scheduling homework. labs are intense but very manageable.
This is the most pointless class i have ever attended. It is like she is trying to shove going to graduate school down our throats and we won't succeed if we don't go. She is rude and does not accept doctor's notes, you will lose points for class. The assignments are 20 points each, some are 1 page and some are 5-10 pages. rude in emails.
Taking this course right now and would not recommend it to anyone. Like many other reviews, she is not understanding in regard to ANY absence. Noticed mid-semester that she extended the page length for one of the two essays which now requires an additional two pages, versus the original guidelines/rubric posted at the start of the semester...
Gave her a second shot with this course and regret it. ANY absence is inexcusable, even with a doctor's note. It's been over two weeks since I submitted the second paper and have yet to receive a grade, and increased page length mid-semester without notifying students.. sneaky. Very clear she has no regard for the well-being of her students.
Two tests, midterm and final, both online 75-100 multiple choice questions. Online quizzes every Monday 5-8 questions make up part of grade. Not flexible with missed work. Study guides and power points online. Lecture helps understand material. Take notes. Stay on top of things.
Had a terrible experience with this professor. Set my alarm wrong before an 8 AM exam, woke up 10 mins before class ended. Despite explaining, got a zero. Advised to drop despite doing well. Even took a previous exam on the morning of my grandfather's funeral. Good at teaching but excessively inflexible. Passed with a 73, but my GPA tanked.
She is a good person and if you need help she is there. She gives weekly tests which are stressful and timed, there are trick questions. One assignment tanked everyone's grade, she is a tough grader
She has a textbook but I never used it
I don't recommend this prof unless you absolutely need it for credits. She was a tough grader, lecture and quiz heavy, and she didn't allow computers.
Genuinely never met a professor that was more problematic. Misgendered people in class several times despite it being a Psych of Gender class. Made us debate on "are same-sex parents harmful to kids?" in Human Sexuality as well. Overall had many controversial topics and poor opinions on them. (PSY 315 & 319)
Unorganized, unaccommodating, and I found her quite rude and unable to communicate well.
Can be a little hot and cold as a person. If you put the effort into her class she is kind. She does kind of scare me but I respect her a lot. Easy grader, if you show you care, she is more willing to help you out. Teaches stats incredibly well.
Her lectures were easy to follow, but the lectures weren't particularly interesting. Some of her quizzes were difficult, but the midterm and final were all multiple choice and fairly easy. She can be a harsh grader on assignments, but if you do the discussion posts early you will get a better grade.
she is extremely hard to work with and she is not very accommodating or understanding in any situation.
really mean professor. the work load isnt necessarily hard, but an extremely tough grader with rude critiques. very unaccommodating and not understanding at all. needed to miss class due to a family emergency (which all my other professors were very understanding about), and she was extremely rude about it and still gave me zeros.
Dr. Cousins can be a difficult professor, but so long as you participate in class, you're good as gold. She will give lots of feedback on your research project, which can sometimes be discouraging, but comparing the first draft to the final draft, you will really see the difference. Although stern, so is very friendly and willing to lend a hand.
If you want to worry about failing her class all the time then feel free to take this course. Weekly quizzes are short but easy to fail due to the study guides not matching the questions. Exams are online but again questions are completely different from the study guide criteria. Also the professor can come off as very rude at times.
If you want to fail a class that presents you with high school-level content, then take this class. Material was easy but the toughest grader ever. You can spend three hours on a small homework assignment and be lucky to receive a 70. Do not recommend.
do not take her. she doesn't actually teach, instead she just reads off the slides. i would've switched out ASAP if I knew how bad it was really going to be. My roommate also has her and we are both struggling. She is such a harsh grader and even tries to critique you if you get a question right.
Professor Cousins is a very mean woman. As an autistic person, it is clear that she is not patient with me or willing to accommodate for me. She is an extremely tough grader, with rude “critiques” to match. Do not take her course for your own sake.
Dr. Cousins is not a very pleasant professor. Her grading is tough and she leaves rude comments if your assignment wasn't up to her standards. She lectures a lot with some random in class activities. She loves to pick favorites and she is the only professor i've really had a problem with.
"I wouldn't recommend this professor. The class is lecture-heavy, and the PowerPoints don't match the quizzes, making it hard to study. She's a tough grader and doesn't respond to emails quickly. Overall, the course felt disorganized and challenging."
Lectures are hard to follow when she is just reading off the slides. Tough grader. She will take off points for not explaining an answer correctly, even if the answer is correct or if its an opinionated question. she does give weekly quizzes but are easy to fail because they are short.
Our first assignment that we had most of the class got a 2/10. Very hard graders and appeared pleasant in class but was nasty and mean through email. She rarely gave extra credit and most of the time they were essays. If not over 18 you have to write 2 essays to complete your research requirement. had favorites, didn't take time to learn your name.
As far as her teaching style, she is lecture heavy, is very blunt and often times unkind to her students. She also ignored my attendance accommodations and marked me absent for everyday I was 5 minutes late, which brought me down a letter grade. She refused to change it and was rude in her email correspondence to me.
took this class last fall and i regret taking it. wasn't even for my major and i was struggling so much. Dr. Cousins was ok, but my least favorite professor. very heavy grader and not the best with emails. the weekly quizzes also made me stress so much since they are timed. also moves quickly with the slideshows so make sure you are a fast writer.
This professor is very discouraging, and her lectures are fast paced, and they often are hard to understand, making it difficult to progress in the class. Grading is consistent, but feedback is minimal, leaving students confused on what they need to work on. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this class if you're looking for structure and guidance.
Dr. Cousins offers great advice on life after undergrad. Whether you're applying to grad school or not, she prepares you for it all! You can tell she cares about how students feel and clearly is passionate about making sure everyone feels successful and confident in their ability to apply to jobs. I've learned a lot in the course :)
I was surprised by the low ratings for Dr. Cousins. I've had a positive experience with her and think she's a great professor. While she is lecture-heavy, she often pauses for discussion and encourages questions. If she doesn't know an answer, she'll research it and follow up, which shows real dedication. Many opportunities for extra credit.
Dr. Cousins is a professor that I would not recommend to my worst enemy. She has unrealistic standards of students, her lectures are very heavy, and assigns an unrealistic amount of work. She is not accessible outside of class, and her responses to emails are often nasty. She has often made myself and others in class feel stupid. I had to withdraw
1. Show up because half of your grade is determined by your tests. 2. Show up because she will give random extra credit 3. Show up because even if ur excused…you won't be granted anything she is very strict with attendance 4. Don't take this class if u need feedback/communication 5. I regret this.
this professor is good if you work well teaching yourself. 50 min class and last 5 mins shes rushing through slides and says "well study them". And then when I reached out to her for any guideness because I had a C, she recommended I credit no credit this class instead of sitting down with me and helping me learn the material. Exams every 2 weeks.
hard grader, but gave lots of extra credit opportunities. definitely not my favorite but not the worst teacher ever. it is important to go to every class and study the material or you will fall behind.
Very lecture heavy if thats what you want to call it, she will basically just talk at you the whole time and its important you take notes. Shes very strict, rude to students, and it takes a lot to get on her good side.
She's crazy bro you think she's not bad until she gets you, oml if you can avoid her do it at all costs!!! Never in my life had a teacher/professor be so uptight and rude, if she doesn't like you just be prepared to have a bad grade in the class, she also doesn't know how to count grades so always check your test scores when you go over in class!!
