Do not take this teacher!! She is from Russia and her english is very hard to understand.!
I've been out of school for 20 yrs. By the end of the semester I was doing Ok. You'll get used to her accent. Passed with an A. She is hard and you have to comprehend this and pretty much figure it out on your own or get a tutor.Test were hard she puts things on there that she didn't go over in class so study entire chapter. Final is m/c.
Cant understand this teacher at all. Very nice lady, but nice doesnt help with math. Test are hard to understand. Material that we did not go over in class. Not willing to go the extra mile to help you understand either. Don't take her!!
She is very cool lady and fun, but she is some what hard to understand. She is funny and will make you at least smile. She is not hard on grading. I liked her class. If you cant understand small Russian ladies, dont take her heheh :)
NOOOO don't take her you won't be able to understand her
Her class was hard but she does offer lots of help after class and she gives out extra credit. The accent was hard to understand at first but you get used to it after awhile.
The class material was pretty advanced but I never had such a great professor who could present the material in such a interesting, clear, and organized manner. She inspired me to do my best and raised my awearness of math in every day world. Anyone in her class has the chance to succeed because she cares much about her students and provides extra
Great teacher, and she is very helpful if you are willing to put forth the effort. Covers a section a day and doesn't overload you. She was a little hard to understand at first, but within the second week I could understand her very well. Take her class!!!
Dr. B does have quite an accent, but you get over that in the first week or two. Your grade is based on 4 test and the final. She doesn't grade the homework, but she'll occasionally give bonus points for those who show all the homework they've done. She likes to have a good time, so just go with the flow. And she is VERY willing to help!!!
she is so sweet. i really enjoyed her. she is very laid back and funny. her english is alittle cloudy but she gives good examples and always provides a great study guide before the test. if you do take her class, be an advisor, she loves to help them out! i overall loved her and the class and it wasnt that bad.
Ok so heres the deal. Shes like 3 foot 7 and doesnt speak english very well. you dont have to come at all, and but you have to take the test..you wont pass the test, but take them anyway..then at the end of the semester she will give you a final exam, and as long as you pass the final you will pass the class...so best of luck..she is really funny
Teacher is from Poland. Very hard to understand. Will not allow calculaters for college algebra. Her test are extremely hard and she does not explain problems.
Good teacher who is interested in her class. She is interested in her students and a lot of fun. What more could you ask for?
She is the worst professor I have ever had. I loved math before entering her class and she made me hate it. DO NOT TAKE HER!
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! You can't understand her at all. The only C i've ever received at gainesville was in this woman's class. I LIVED in the math lab that semester, and she does NOT give partial credit on tests-it's all or nothing. I did not find her very helpful at all and would not have survived without a tutor!
Russian and hard to understand.
I had her for both 1111 and 1113. Never made "B" before until her class. Not the easiest teacher, but not the hardest. She does have a russian accent, so it's hard to understand her. But, if you come to class and do well on her test, she will bump you up a letter grade if you're about five points from it. The book is really helpful if you don't und
I had her for pre-calc & I loved her class! She has an accent, but you get used to it very quickly! Majority of the ppl who said they didn't like her class were looking for an easy A without putting in effort. This is college..not elementary school! She gives extra points on tests if you do the hw! And she will find any way to help boost your grade
Terrible teacher. Cant understand anything she is saying. The college should not hire teachers like this to teach a remidial math..Shame on you!!!
She's very nice but hard to understand! she tends to do easy examples in class then the homework is hard to understand because they are more complicated. If math is your subject and you have no problem then she's not a bad teacher but if you have trouble with math then she's not my first recommendation.
Nice lady but hard to understand. Used book a lot because I pretty much had to teach myself. Homework and reviews way harder than homework. Likes to give problems you have never seen on review. She is very good about grading gives a lot of extra credit and if you pass the final you pass the class
crazy funny tiny woman! i absolutely suck at math & failed majority of tests but due to my hard work ethic, perfect attendence and final exam grade, she gave me a B- which made me love her! final exam is the test that counts most & its cumulative. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE - like she says "do your scales to make your right hand strong!"
crazy funny tiny woman! i absolutely suck at math & failed majority of tests but due to my hard work ethic, perfect attendence and final exam grade, she gave me a B- which made me love her! final exam is the test that counts most & its cumulative. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE - like she says "do your scales to make your right hand strong!"
dont really like her way of teaching. preaty funny but fails at teaching herself. she doesnt let you make up stuff. if your not in class everyday u preaty much failed. would not really recomend her EVER....
I absolutely loved her. I have never made an A in math before and I was so excited! Pay attention and do all the extra credit. She give you many opportunities to boost your grade.I actually had a B, but I emailed her asking what I made on the final and just for asking she bumped me to an A! Act like you care and you'll get the grade you want.
couldn't really understand her with accent at first and won't help unless you know exactly what in the math process you're doing wrong. Easy teacher if you do all the homework as practice and take good notes.
Love her! Her teaching style is a little different, but good! She makes everyone in the class participate by working problems on the board, which helps you LEARN by doing! She doesn't make you feel stupid if you're wrong. And the accent? Don't worry, it's not too bad, and you get use to it quickly. Try your best and put in effort, she'll notice.
i absolutely love baloueva. she is a big ball of russian sunshine and she brightened my day every morning. math is a hard class in general but she is very helpful. if you tell her your goal she will help you out in any way possible. do you homework and study guides and you will be fine.
DR.B is such a wonderful lady and can be very helpful. if you take her class MAKE sure you ask to be a teacher assistant. you get to grade everyones tests and she allows you to find partial credit on the test and regain points. doesnt explain things well but if you are bad at math like i am and dont have to take any more maths take her.
Dr. B is an extremly kind person. She is always willing to help and while the test are difficult they prepare you for a far easier final. she doesnt take up homework but does assaign three reviews which she will check for you so its easy to get a 100 on them. I liked her adn hte class but thats because im good with calculus.
I thoroughly enjoy Alla's lectures, she is very funny and has a very quirky way of speaking/acting. She makes the more difficult points of calc into very understandable concepts. I may be biased as because i like math but this class is great for me. Nothing that has been presented to me is shockingly difficult.
she is super nice. This was my first college class I had and she made it really great. I had trouble understanding her at first but the way she teaches the class it was no problem. I made an A in the class! Just make sure to do all the work and you will pass.
If you take her, go to class!! she is hard to understand because of her accent but she is very helpful and funny!!
YOU haveee to attend the class. Her accent is funny, but she is very helpful! Do your work and show her your best and she will help you to make an A if you want!
Horrible teacher! When I asked her to explain why she did a step she would answer, "because it's common sense."
For the first few classes I was completely lost- this country kid didn't know whether she was speaking English or Russian! However, once you're used to her it's not so bad. She grows on you. Such a funny and unique lady. Plus, she gives extra credit and curves like there's no tomorrow! She notices the hard workers. Try and you will pass her class!!
Fantastic! She will help you with points on tests and quizzes! Her accent is thick, but she is hilarious! I didn't like her class at first, but I ended up really enjoying her. Do the homework and study and you should do well!
She has a heavy accent, but if you listen closely you shouldn't have problems understanding her. She is a great teacher!
She does have an accent, but you easily get used to her if you go to class and make an effort. She is a wonderful teacher. Unless you are a slacker and don't do the homework, you will make a good grade. She works with you, gives extra credit so you can pass if she sees you are tring. If you don't expect to do homework, however, take somebody else.
Great Math teacher, very helpful and will work with you if you have questions. If you pay attention and do the work you will do great. If you think you can just slack off or be lazy just as any other prof, you probably wont do well in math.
Thoroughly enjoyed her class, took her for College Algebra and again for Precal. She will make sure to give you opportunities, your choice to put in the effort. Just don't be lazy.. Both classes I took with her were very interactive, she's very good at keeping a good learning environment. A great teacher!
Dr. B has a thick accent that takes getting used to. If you are great at math then you will do well in her class but if you don't catch on quickly it is a really difficult class. She is a funny, nice lady who will take notice of your efforts, but I spent a great deal of time studying with tutors and still only made a C. Not helpful outside class
She is great! Has thick accent but I enjoyed her class. I'm not a math person but I did liked this class. If you made good grade on your final she will push your over all grade up one letter. I was making a C in her class but I made a B on my final exam so she gave me a B for final grade. Awesome teacher!
She really is a great math teacher. I had her for PreCalc and she's really helpful. Our class prefers the chalkboard so she goes slower on that. About once a week you do a group worksheet and you can get bonus points. She always answers questions. You can get extra points if you do your homework.
She is a great Math professor, always helpful. She has a Russian accent but she is a very fun person. Gives bonus points and does a lot of curves on test, also the lowest test grade is dropped.
She does have a thick accent, but she is great and very helpful. As long as your respectful and try than it should not be a problem getting at lest a B in the class.
I liked Dr. B. She can be hard to understand, but she has a great personality and I enjoyed the class. You will have to study to do well. I spent a lot of time in the Math Lab. She notices who comes to class and who tries their best. She offers extra credit and sometimes curves grades. I recommend taking her.
Dr.Baloueva is the funniest teacher i've had. She knows her stuff and doesn't mind teaching it but does expect you to visit the math lab often for further clarity. She gives lot of extra points and will work with you on test scores if she sees that you made small mistakes on your work. over all i loved her class.
She is a tough teacher, but really knows her subject. I always did poorly in math before her class, but ended up making an A. A lot of time spent in the math lab, and keeping up with homework really helped me out. She is known for curving people's grades if they are doing poorly. Just show up a couple times to her office, and your grade will improv
English language is a mystery to her. Bail on this class at all cost. Half of class dropped by midterm and I should have went with them.
Dr. Balueva is AWESOME! She is so helpful and so nice. If you do your homework this class shouldn't be too difficult for you. She give so many extra credit opportunities! She also uses a pretty big curve for each test. I made an A with minimal effort. Just show up to class and do your homework and you will be fine! Would recommend her to anyone :)
A really great teacher, but you need to know the basic concepts of the course before you take her. She moves through the material really fast, so if you're a slow learner with math, you might have to schedule some lab time. Great personality, and extremely helpful. Answers questions at the beginning of class and goes over homework every day.
She assgns problems that are more difficult than her quizzes or tests, so you end up working a lot on those instead of building a strong foundation in Calc. I made an A in her class but made a C in Calc2. Her English is fine.
I was always amazing at math until her class. She taught everything so confusing, and if anyone tried to do problems differently she'd throw a fit. She also wouldn't help me out of class when I needed help. She also has people do problems on the board and will embarrass them if they don't know how to do it. Almost made one girl cry. Awful teacher.
Honestly the best experience i have had as a teacher. She was right on the point when she was talking about tests. She expects you do homework and collects it every test for +2 points. The teacher explains everything so well. Dr. Balueva is great! Very easy class if you apply your self.
Worst class I have ever taken, the teacher made it a point to call me out for being a freshman. I felt out of place due to not taking any other college math classes prior to this class. She couldn't teach and her tests didn't even make sense (mainly word problems). Basically worst teacher I have ever had.
thick Russian accent, but it is not as bad as the speed of how she talks. So fast you might miss something important. Doesn't explain what she is doing, just does math in her head. I could barely keep up. that is why I taught myself everything except for twice when I went to Math lab. Fair grader. curves and bonus points. Be prepared to STUDY.
If your Ego thrives on hard classes by all means taker her. If you love going at fast pace and individual learning. If you are not an engineering or math major I highly dicourage you from taking ANY class with her.
Hard to understand due to accent but if you pay close attention you will understand. She really wants her students to do well. Her tests are short and to the point, if you know the material it is easy. replaces lowest test score with final grade, and offers A LOT of bonus points on tests. Although she is a bit confusing she is a funny lady!
Dr. Balueva is GREAT! Really funny lady. Tries to get students involved and often calls out students to go to the board and complete a problem. Other than that, she is GREAT! Highly recommend :)
she is very sweet and funny. she also try to explain what you don't understand. She will give all of her students at least one chance to become a teacher of class after each test.
She is so funny and sweet! always do the extra credit because it will help you out! Be sure to study for class and I would not recommend skipping. Also, don't take her for maymester, you will have more pressure and this class is hard.
Rarely takes grade loves to call you to the board. no partial credit assigns a lot of homework that she doesn't give you credit for hard to understand her accent and way of teaching
If you can understand her accent than you are golden. She loves giving examples and that is how I learn so that helped me a lot. If you do the WebAssign then she bumps your final grade by a whole letter grade and offers extra credit thorughout class. She is funny and if you go to the board than she will like you more.
had never had a problem with a math class before. Wants you to do the problems using her own way if you follow the book she won't accept answer. Tests are incredibly hard and doesn't give any partial credit. Just stay away.
HARD HARD HARD! However, I was doing terrible all semester.. almost dropped the class and decided to tough it out.. Finished with a B. Pretty much if you do good on the final, you pass her class! Sweet lady, just quite confusing.. oh and expect at least 50 problems of homework per night
Dr. Balueva was awesome! Just do the homework and you will be fine :)
She has a really thick accent, and when you ask for help she doesn't understand why you don't get the material. I ended up with an 88 and she wouldn't bump me. The only reason I did well was because I already had taken it in high school, but she does have her own way of how she wants you doing the work. You'll have a lot of hw in book every night.
awesome
Good teacher, test are not bad, a lot of homework. Can be difficult to understand at times. Will use book.
Wonderful professor!! I learned so many things from this professor! Definitely take her again!
If you want to become an engineer! Take her!!! You will learn so many great things from her!!
In the tags section I selected "lots of homework" but don't let that scare you. The homework is sometimes optional, answers are in the back of the book, and sometimes only taken for a "participation grade". That being said I would do the homework, it really helps. When I took her she had optional extra credit for the course grade.
Thick accent, but besides that she is the most funny, and most kind professor i've had. Her test aren't so are and the homework is for your benefit only. She takes time to explain things and the material is very easy to understand if you pay attention. She takes her time as well and does a lot of extra credit and second chances. I love Dr. B
She is a very hard professor. It is very hard to understand her in class because of her accent. Her tests have nothing to do with her examples in class and the labs. She does not let you use your calculator on tests, but you can in class.
Balueva is a nice teacher overall. Her accent is super heavy which made it harder for me to learn. She is very heavy on book work, and lectures. She would throw in random things for our homework that had nothing to do with what were learning and were not on the test. She grades VERY hard! Its either you do it her way or the whole answer is wrong.
She is very hard to understand because her accent is really heavy. She gives a lot if homework! And she is also a very tough grader. Make sure you bring your book to class and make sure your best friends with the tutors in the math lab. Your going to need it.
Dr. Balueva means well and is very good at math, but she is not necessarily a good instructor. She only does each problem one time and doesn't explain things well. She does not post grades, or anything else for that matter, on D2L. This is the first C I have ever gotten in math. Be prepared to teach yourself whatever you don't understand.
English is not well. If you struggle in math, not being able to understand her makes it worse. If your the top of the class you get extra credit, if your slower you get none and get left behind. Does not help at all. Do not take her class unless your excellent at math and can teach yourself. No help from her.
Dr. Balueva was definitely my favorite teacher this year! Her class will be a challenge if you struggle with math but she offers many resources. All the homework is practice (and extra credit) which will prepare you for the tests and she offers an SI session which, if you go, is really helpful! Don't take this class if you are planning to miss days
Terrible professor. Little instruction & when asked to show an example says no. Lots of quizzes and hw, hw is optional for extra credit. Half of my class dropped the course, can tell she needs her grades up because a kid had a D on a quiz and she gave him an attendance grade instead. Also very heard to understand, don't take if not good at math.
She wants you to do well but she just isn't a good teacher. Her test and quizzes are ridiculously hard and she does not do well at explaining anything. Don't get me wrong I paid attention but I still did not do well. I also got an A in each math class in high school so that should say a lot.
One of the worst teachers I've ever had, not just in college, but just in school in general. Her accent makes her hard to understand and she is terrible at explaining the material, which isn't a bad thing if you understand it. But the worst part is, if you have a way of studying that she disagrees with, she will constantly call you out in class.
Dr. B is probably my favorite professor ever. She is hilarious and always in a good mood. Her accent is thick but after you get used to it, it's easy to understand. If you are good at math, her class is SO easy. Lots of extra credit available! Love her! E-book is available with webassign so you don't need to buy or rent the book unless you want to!
She has a heavy accent that I struggled to understand through out the semester but she isn't a bad teacher. You can be left behind if you're not familiar with the topic. She may not understand your question and relies heavily on math tutors to help. Math labs helped me understand the class a little. Her way of solving things are often easier to me.
I enjoyed Dr. Balueva's College Algebra Course. She may be a little hard to understand at first but you'll eventually get used to her accent. She is extremely smart and very good at what she does. If you put forth the effort and reach out for help she will gladly help you earn the grade you deserve.
She does NOT teach the way the textbook she assigns does. Drastic differences between how the book explains a theory and how she does. She also misunderstands quite often making questioning her impossible. Lastly, she assigns reviews which she doesn't go over before the test which are immensely more difficult than the homework. Terrible. Don't.
The tests had 10 or less questions on them and I had a difficult time understanding what she was saying most of the time. She also didn't help me when I asked for help.
Not sure how she made basic algebra so hard, but she did it. She's pretty discouraging when you ask for help, and doesn't elaborate when you ask specific questions. Tests are short and pretty difficult compared to the stuff you do in class. Not the worst but do everything you can to stay away.
People complain about her on here and I can promise you they are all fresh out of high school. They aren't used to doing work outside of class and actually using their brains because this is not a hard class and she is not a hard professor. Professor B. is a solid teacher. Make sure to pay attention and ask questions. Visit during office hours.
Shes really funny and she cares. At first, she can come off the wrong way but you get use to her. She curves test which is a great thing. If she likes you then you should be good.
She is a sweet person, but she does not get her point across very well. She frequently teaches differently from the book and tutors and does not like to answer questions, at least that's how it was in my class. There is lots of extra credit and her notes are online, 4 tests and online assignments. If you are not good at math than I do not recommend
Im a freshman this semester and I love her, you gotta study and put effort to make a good grade and pass her class but overall if you do your work and go to the math lab it should be an easy A
She is not a bad professor at all but if you struggle with math be sure that you are putting in the extra effort to learn everything she teaches. she gives the whole class extra credit. she is very sweet and caring! Her accent is kind of hard to understand sometimes but you get used to it really fast.
I am not a math-minded person, and this class was a struggle because of that, but Balueva is a great professor. She does many examples in class and gives lots of practice. She always stops to answer questions and offers many extra credit opportunities all the time. There is a lot of homework but it is helpful and sometimes counts for extra credit.
She is probably the sweetest teacher you will ever have. However, If I had not taken the math class earlier in high school I would be super confused. Overall, her accent throws you off at first but you get used to it. She assigns hw but not for a grade. If you miss a class you miss a lot. so.... show up. If you put in effort you will get an A.
She was a super fun lady but a terrible professor. Ive gotten As my whole life until this class. Her accent made it extremely hard to understand the concepts, and she went incredibly fast. Now Ive had to play catch up with my grades to keep scholarships. Would not recommend whatsoever.
She has a harsh accent. With this being online, the lectures are on zoom. This made it extremely hard to understand her. She goes really fast through equations. Make sure to go over material before class so you do not get lost. Be prepared for tests, homework, or a quiz out of the blue. I think she wouldn't be so bad if it were in person lecture.
she's a good person but TERRIBLE professor. I never missed a class but still ended up confused and lost. accent is hard to understand. she doesn't show how to solve a propblem just talks about it and expects us to know It. its currently finals, she's refusing give us a study guide or tell us which units its over. she doesn't answer emails.
She is a great professor but is hard to understand. All of our exams were proctored and on zoom (we had to have zoom on our phones). All the test we on Webassign, as were the labs. This semester we had 2 paper based hw. HW is extra credit for the exams. Overall she is nice, hard to understand, kinda awkward, and is willing to help.
Professor Balueva isn't too bad. She will talk constantly on zoom during the tests which does make it hard to focus. She also has a thick accent but it's not too hard to understand. The zoom lectures online are sorta hard and unbearable. You'll probably need to use YouTube to learn more about the lessons. You have to work sorta hard to get an A.
very difficult to understand. when teaching, she doesnt specifically show you step by step, instead she just shows examples and youre basically on your own from then. if asked a problem, she doesnt answer clearly either. unorganized. never replied back to emails. also she refused to give us a study guide/test review for the final.
She is a lovely person! Her accent is kinda tough but you get used to it. She may keep you late a few times. Her test is easy except for the last one which was probably the worst part.
Dr. B "Your Fearless Leader", is an abhorrent professor who very rarely actually teaches a class. She will only review the material after it has been taken, and due to her often random spurs never answers questions. She also refuses study guides for tests and only gives labs and tests via a website. Do not take this class if want to LEARN Calculus.
ballueva was pretty cool. she went type fast with the material though. of course this class calc2 is difficult regardless of the professor. shes a genius though
She does not teach she sits in a chair and scrolls quickly through smartboard notes that were written years ago. Maybe does one example from each section and skips 70% of the chapter yet expects you to know everything. She won't let you in her office you have to attend on zoom (when she decides to show up),NO HELP. I literally passed bc of youtube.
The homework is easy, there is just a lot of it. The tests are difficult one is proctored and one is not and then the final is proctored. Do the homework and quizzes because you do not want your grade to rely only on the tests
A lot of homework, two tests and a final, one test is proctored, one is not. I found my self struggling when studying for the test because there is A LOTTTT of material and memorization so if you are the type of person to understand it when you have the step in front of you you may not do well on the test because there are no formulas allowed
elle est a ete tres mechante enver moi et elle embette les eleve durent le test
ONLINE. This class is not easy to learn in. Expect to put in lots of work on your own. Her office hours are optional, and unhelpful, so I don't attend. The expectations for homework are clear and they're somewhat easy to make 100s on. The final exam is quite difficult and will bring your grade down. She is nice through email tho. Shes OKAY overall.
She teaches calc2 like you will use it in the real world. If you have to take physics her methods make doing the simple integrals easy, but the class is far from easy. GO TO THE MATH LAB THEY HAVE AN ANSWER KEY FOR ALL HER ASSIGNINMENTS, but you can not look at it. the tutor can though. She is a genius if you have the patience to listen.
Professor Balueva was very nice! The exams were a really good reflection of what I learned in the class. Only down-side was that the final was high-stress as in the syllabus it states that the final takes up about 1/4-1/3 of your final grade. She was really helpful in zoom. I wish I could've attended the normal sessions but Ionlyattended1duetotime.
Honestly she's very very sweet but most of the learning has to be done by yourself and it's a lot of material to memorize. The questions on exams are very hard even if you understand the concepts. You can tell she is very smart and passionate about her work, but this class was very hard for me personally.
Definitely a challenging class, but using unstuck AI along with the textbook helped me grasp the concepts. Professor Balueva can be tough to understand at times, but she's willing to help if you engage. Overall, a rewarding experience if you're willing to put in the work.
She's a great person and professor. This class is hard if you aren't naturally good at math, and I can see many things going over some students' heads. Pretty disorganized at times but not in a terrible way. She makes the class enjoyable with her personality. Quizzes/tests are like 80% of your grade so you NEED to study. Very little HW, though.
2 assignments due per week. 4 tests, 2 proctored 2 not. She has very clear grading criteria, and if you do not meet them she will let you redo them. I don't usually write reviews but she bumped me up to an A despite me not doing at least half of the HW. And for that I am thankful. Take her if you can.
I had knowledge going into this class, so the actual material was pretty easy for me. There was a ton of homework every week so be prepared for that. She gives practice test and they do a pretty good job preparing you for the actual test which was nice.
