She does not know how to teACH.....very poor lectures...test are harder than dr.kims tests...strongly do not recommend this to anyone who is taking chem 1a or any other chem class.. poor teacher needs to be fired asap. payce
her lectures are not organized. tests are, for the most part, notttttt very gud. she is a new teacher maybe she will improve. her final was super easy and there is no lab due date. so turn them in whenever. make sure u read the book (all of the reading) if you are planning on to take the class with her. she has her goods and bads. i barely got a
This is the worst teacher I have ever had and she is probably the worst at Delta College. She is unclear about everything. If you ask her a question you are wasting your time, you have to look it up in the book. The book is your teacher. You are your teacher. She is very boring, she tends to talk really slow. Her test are hard.I hope she gets better.
This is by far the worst teacher ever. This lady needs serious help, she does not know what she is doing. Besides being slow.....she is just incredibly boring.
Dr. Gamarnik is extremely understanding with work and is willing to do all it takes to help you pass including tons of office hours. Also the class is made to be extremely easy for people from all backgrounds of experience in math and science. The class is also one that has no HW to be turned in all it takes is effort and the ability to learn.
Dr Gamarnik is a really nice lady but just doesn't know how to teach. After her last exam more than half the students got a D or an F and that's *after* giving everyone an extra 5 percentage points because the grades were so bad. This is a direct reflection of her teaching. She's not crystal clear in her explanations especially with math. Good luck
She's very helpful but has very little experience with teaching. Sometimes she presents things as if they explain themselves, this can be very frustrating if you are having difficulty with a concept.
This is the greatest teacher. You have to take this class from her, but stay away from her class if you are stupid. You won't like it.
I WILL NOT RECOMMEND HER TO ANYONE.IF YOU ASK A QUESTION, SHE EITHER WONT ANSWER OR WILL START TELLING SOMETHING ELSE. VERY UNCLEAR. SHE TRIES HER BEST THOUGH. HOPE SHE GETS BETTER.
She was awful! Chem 1A was the last class I needed to transfer and she made it miserable. I studied like crazy since she was absolutely no help. I went to see her a few times with some questions and left even more confused! I would avoid her at all costs unless you can teach yourself.
Dr. Gamarnik my be hard to understand at times, but she is a good teacher! These people must not study too hard. I had an F in Chemisty in high school, and I got As in her 1A and 3A course!
I completely disagree with the previous person's comments. Gamarnik is horrible!!!! I am not the kind of person to give up easily though so I have a solid B in her class and I study VERY hard, but this lady is no help at all. I have asked her q's before and sometimes she even gets an attitude!!!! at least 90% of my 75 classmates would agree.
Not very helpful, very hard to understand.
At times, she may be hard to understand, but she will help you if you show some effort, but then again Chemistry 1A is far from an easy subject. Be prepared to read the book, and practice problem sets A LOT, becuase the tests look more like book questions ( the difficult ones at that) than problems that she actually goes over in the lecture.
this lady is so hard to understand. there is no way in passing her class. half the time her lectures dont even make sence. and when you ask her a question she would get all pissed at you like your her worst enemy.
Gamarnik does not know how to teach. Her lectures are mostly mono tone and only 20% of it useful and the rest is crap. Her tests are nothing like her quizzes and she makes each multiple choice worth 4 to 5 points and its the tuffest part of the test.
Not very clear, but you have to do your part. The element song was hilarious, we listened to it 3 times. Not recommended.
Like other people have posted, Chem 1a is not a bs class and people probably expect to breeze through her class. she is a little difficult to understand but that just means that you have to study harder. She will help you out if you show some effort
Challenging class expect a lot of studying and reviewing. Shes a little difficult to understand sometimes but ask her for help and she'll help you. She won't hand you an A (or a B or C) you'll have to earn your grade in this class
She is by far the worst chem. teacher ever.
Her class is hard only because she doesn't know how to teach. She leaves problems on the board, and lets you work on it for 2 straight lab hours while she works on grading her paper because she doesn't wanna do it at home. The only time she actually taught was when the inspector was over at the class, no test review at all, not recommended.
Fairly decent teacher, but can be a little unclear during some lectures. If asked politely, she will always answer questions. Tests and quizzes were always straightforward.
She does not like to answer any questions. She would prefer the students to ask each other for clarification.I learned more from the book and study guide. Most students drop with a "W",and less than 1/4 of the class stayed the entire semester. She prefers students to take the class again because Chemestry is too much to retain in 1 semester. The worst!
Absolutely horrible; lecture runs over into lab time making the class hard to stay awake. Learned more in my Chem1B class than in her class. Does not prepare us for general chemistry at all; is good at teaching organic though. Cannot even handle review questions, learn to teach yourself, book is hardly used. Needs to update her lecture notes!
She is kind of creepy and thinks herself superior to students. she doesn't explain things well. She has ocd. Gets pissed off when asked simple questions. Tricky questions on test.
The main problem with this Prof is that she does not teach the material well. Its like a student is teaching you. She gives the worksheets out and says do them while she leaves the room, she just goes walking around in the hallway! Very hard to get your questions answered. To pass this class you would already have to know chemistry befoe this class
Worst chemistry professor ever! She does not help students, never directly answers students question with clarity, and exams were difficult. DO. NOT. TAKE. HER.
very hard class... it's very important to take notes and review them. it maybe difficult to understand her concepts but those that try very hard will eventually pass her class.. if you take her class "good luck" but it's not going to be fun.
SHe hands out PRACTICE quizes to prepare you forthe quizes. EASY IF YOU STUDY THEM THOUROUGHLY. SHe also gives some studyguides, and insane curves on grades. and drops three low quize scores. honestly this class isnt a walk in the park but if you study and utilize what she gives you then you will get a GOOD grade. stop complaining welcome to colleg
Extremely rigorous class. Got an A in Chem3A prior and this teacher still couldn't get thru to me. If you ask "dumb" questions, she will kill you with her laser eyes. Unclear in explanations; thinks we should know already. No patience whatsoever. Good luck using the book as she doesn't really teach the material at all.
She does not teaches well, she WILL kill you with her laser eyes. She does not grade her students fairly, if it's the written work, tests, etc. The only time that you'll get a good grade is if you're taking scantron tests, otherwise 8/10 you'll get a bad % by her strict grading. I wouldn't recommend this teacher to anyone.
Really hard teacher. Bare bone instruction not and confusing
Very hard and in-comprehensive teacher, worst science teacher ever! She usually left you in the class the whole two hrs to work on problems from board or wksht, then she goes outside doing something else. Also, she's very unorganized and very strict in grading. You have to understand the concept of chemistry PRECISELY in order to pass her class.
Terrible teacher. She doesn't make sense half the time. Also, she takes points off for HER MISTAKES on the questions for tests/quizzes. In many of the lab meetings, she hands you a practice quiz and leaves the class for an hour or more and doesn't explain much at all! When you ask her questions, she looks at you like you're dumb and doesn't help.
The practice quizzes are helpful. Midterm test about 20 questions of 5 points each. Half are terms and half calculations. Be prepared to teach yourself through the class. Her lectures are not intuitive and you have to read the book to make some sense out of it all.
She is a great teacher. She graduated from UCLA. She teaches you everything in the course. You just have to focus with her and write any notes. I took her for he summer and I received an A.
Definitely NOT the best Chemistry teacher. Teaching methods are VERY SLOW and often confusing. She goes off topic MANY times. Not helpful and doesn't give you clear explanation/response. Gives little to no instructions. Quizz and tests are ok. You need to put in effort to figure things on your own and work with other students to survive this class!
GREAT TEACHER! I'm not a smarty pants or anything and I still received a B! Could've got an A but I started getting lazy halfway through the semester. Overall she is really easy for a chem teacher, her tests are super easy,if you study everything on her learning goal sheets you will get an A.
She was not very helpful and not very nice. I remember this one time in class where i got 3 questions right in a row and everybody around me was congratulating. Then Gamarnik goes, "You won't be laughing after the next test!" Wow they had to call the fire dept. to cool off my burns! Anyways shes alright, the class is alright, but wouldn't reccomend
I like her overall. Her teaching isn't the best but I got an A in her class. Her teaching isn't as structure and she tends to leave the classroom a lot. Testes are easy if you follow the handouts on what to study for. Testes contain a lot of math rather than concepts.
Her lectures are sometimes a bit hard to understand and she tests u more on the math such as formulas than concepts, i get A's on quiz and tests. really easy class, and dont waste money on book unless u need it as reference becuz she is sometimes tough to understand. overall her grading is lenient and she is a very nice person, and funny too!
Her lectures DONT make sense. You are left to teach yourself. Book wont always help. Seems to give an attitude if you try asking her for help(asking for her help is a waste of time because she wont make sense anyways). Gives practice quizzes and tests which dont always help. Thinks whatever she writes on board explains itself. Avoid this teacher.
Horrible instructor she thinks she explains everything. Im a great student but ur literally left to teach ur self. Never take her if u need this class for ur future even if ur pre med or any health occupation. Shes utterly horrible and im a student who had her for two semesters and i had no choice
I had for chem 1a and 1b. She is super confusing. You are better of staying home rather than going to school. She doesn't even review for the exams and she can't answer any questions that are asked in class. She is unorganized and there is no due date for labs. She doesn't return the labs on time.
Horrible! I think that summarizes most of it. Be prepared to teach yourself.
She is veryyy confusing! she doesn't explain things well and is always rushed because she is so unorganized. If you ask her questions, she is very rude and makes you feel stupid. You are basically on your own. If you have trouble with chemistry, DO NOT TAKE HER.
Gamarnik is pretty hard. Her lectures are dis-organized. On a good note, her practice quizzes are same type of problems as actual quizzes. Her exams are difficult. Exam 1 easy, exam 2 okay, exam 3 hard! exam 4 good. If you go to class every session, and review your notes. I can guarantee you'll pass.
Gamarnik is the WORST professor at Delta. The quizzes are easy, the midterms have a lot of conceptual (so read the book) but otherwise aren't terribly hard if you study thoroughly. She likes to take points for sig fig.WATCH OUT! CAN'T TEACH! I TAUGHT MYSELF!!If you correct her she tries to make you feel dumb. . .not apprachable, she yells at you!!
It's ridiculous how arrogant she is when it comes to teaching. She not only skims over topics but does a problem on the whiteboard, solves it herself, briefly explains and the proceeds to move on. The whole semester is a similar story. Ask a question and you're criticized. You've been warned.
Be prepared to teach yourself. She will not answer questions. The class now is hybrid with online homework that costs $30 in addition to the text book costs. Overall, you can tell she just doesn't care about her students at all or helping them learn.
no . she won't teach you
At first I was scared to death to take this class after reading the awful reviews. But I had no option and I was pleasantly surprised. She is very understanding and helpful under any circumstance. She will even accept late work if you. She gives practice tests and quizzes for everything and if you study those you will get a good grade.
Gamarnik is not mean at all! She wants to help the students that show up and are willing to learn. She is hard and tough but the class is tolerable and somewhat easy if you give it her all. Her lectures suck so bad, but if you attend SI (go Miranda) you will be fine. Take her class seriously and there is no reason you shouldn't get a B or higher.
Do not be afraid of taking this teacher. Yes, the course was pretty difficult and tests were much harder than quizzes. Final is pretty easy.(like I got a B! woohoo!) Make sure to have a great memory!!! Also, start organization early because there's so many papers; so, if you have that surface pro, you know it will be useful. GO GAMARNIK!
Do not be afraid to take this teacher! The tests are harder than the quizzes. Make sure to have great memory! ORGANIZE early because there will be a paper pile the vertical length of Michael Jordan's basketball shoes! She runs the class quick but if you read the book they just clarify up any issues of understanding her lecture :)Go Gamarnik!:)
If you don't want to do hw (optional) and can teach yourself (through YouTube videos or practice quizzes wsolutions) then this is an great class. If you need to be walked through everything step-by-step and would rather have assigned hw then look for another prof. Grade labs+test+quizzes. You don't need the textbook which saves you a ton of money
A very rude person and she will not answer questions unless she likes you.
SAVE YOURSELF SOME GPA POINTS AND DO NOT TAKE HER. VERY HORRIBLE AND CONDESCENDING!
She does not care about her students. She told my class that she does not care if everyone fails, she is guaranteed 10 years at Delta anyway. I failed and retook the class with Reedy and passed with no problem. She just gave hw out and expected you to learn through that. If you can avoid her. DO SO. She is also really rude, & extremely unorganized.
She gives reviews to where you think you are prepared, and then blindsides you on the test. She is an extremely tough grader. I you got half of the problem right she will give you zero points. Very unapproachable, and does not like to explain things. KNOW THE CONTENT OF THE TEXT BOOK LIKE THE BACK OF YOUR HAND, OTHERWISE YOU ARE SUNK.
So unorganized!!! If you can take this class at another's college, DO IT. Her teaching method is god awful and she is not open to questions. I received a C in her class with a B+ average on exams and A's on hmwk. Throughout the entire semester you never know your grade and now that the semesters over I can't ask how I got a C!!! Avoid at all costs!
Don't listen to the other rates about Dr. Gamarnik for Chem 12A. This was her first time in years she taught O Chem and she was a little rusty but she knows her stuff. People want an easy A, that is not going to cut it here. If you read the text book and ask her questions you will be fine. Also review her study guides most questions are in it.
Read the book and pay attention during lecture and you'll be fine. She was awesome!
Gamarnik's lecture is throughout, straight to the point, and simplified. I recommend reading either the chapter before going to lecture or after the lecture. Either way, it's helpful to hear the material being explained and then having the book explain it in further detail. Highly recommend getting the green book she recommends. Do lots of practice
For OCHEM 12A/B!!!!! SI helped a lot. Professor is caring but grades extremely hard. Test and quizzes are worth a lot of points and she only drops 1 low quiz. But gives a lot of practice material which is more easier than the test. Make sure you ask questions and go to SI and tutoring! I only passed because of SI!!
Professor is very caring. Exams & quizzes are really hard. The review material she gives is easy. The lab exams are ridiculous she doesn't go over anything but expects us to know everything, conceptually. The tutor's time didn't fit my schedule which sucks cause people that went weren't stressed out about the class. I have to take 12b ;(
She gives lots of practice problems, practice quiz and tests, which is good preparation.. She is always willing to answer questions and go over practice problems with you one on one if you go to her office. Labs were challenging because the lab textbook used is not good.
Don't expect an easy A or B in Organic Chemistry, it takes a lot of studying and determination to do well in this class. Dr. G is always willing to go over things that you don't understand and wants to see you do well in the class. Reading the book, reviewing notes, and some supplemental instruction can keep you on task! Overall, loved this class!
O Chem is a hard class already but Dr. Gamarnik makes it even more difficult. She tries but the material could be simplified to be more understandable. The exams are WAY more difficult than the practice exams. In order to even pass, you'll have to spend well over 30 hours a week studying and most of that will be material you find on your own.
Took this class online because of COVID and instead of being more bearable it was confusing. Almost all test and quizzes were written/free response even though she knew that some of us didn't have access to a printer. That was because she didn't knew, like every other professor, how to write a test on Canvas. We got grades, at least 3 werks after.
She says she cares about her students, but does the opposite. Test/quizzes are written and uploaded in a PDF FILE! If u don't have a printer and scanner ur fried. She doesn't know how to use Canvas for tests, she doesn't even how to unlock the correct answers .The least empathetic prof. Unclear grading criteria, misleading, never uses rubric. DON'T
Dr. Gamarnik is not a BAD teacher, but online is not her forte. Cons: VERY inconsistent scheduling (3 quizzes, 2 midterms, a final & 2 lab exp's in last 4 weeks of the semester) doesn't promptly grade assignments (5+ weeks since submitted, end of semester & still no grade) lectures are LONG (the info you need is in there but... geez) one word:bird
Dr. Gamarnik isn't a horrible professor & I think she cares about her student's as individuals but in order to pass her class you will need to read the chapters beforehand & watch lots of Youtube videos. She knows her stuff but forgets that her students are starting from scratch. Her lectures are all over the place & she gets off topic often.
If you've never taken a chemistry class before, this is not the professor for you. She speeds through material in labs, often goes completely off topic in lectures, and gives tests and quizzes every third lab. She is incredibly rude and is not afraid to ridicule an entire class for not understanding material. Check canvas every day for schedule.
Most of your grade comes from exams. With that in mind: 1) Pay attention during lecture. 2) Read the textbook. 3) Don't slack off during labs. 4) Recognize your weaknesses and master them...Don't let the negative reviews scare you. She's actually nice. Feel free to ask her questions; she's a professional in her field! Now go get that A! :)
If a 0 was possible, I would give a 0. She is terrible. Save yourself while you can, she is in no way fit to teach organic chemistry. Both lab practicals were given within a week of each other on the same day as a midterm and a quiz because of how far off schedule we were. Four of the six lab reports were due during the same week. Awful.
Has no idea how to teach intro to chem. When our class called her out on it her response was "I am contracted with Delta College, so it does not matter to me who passes this class and who does not, i will still have my job." There was a waitlist when class first started but by the middle of the semester there was mayber 8 of us left. SAVE YOURSELF!
Organic chemistry is a difficult subject, and this professor makes it much more complicated than it actually is. If you have the ability to take this class at a different community college, I recommend you to take the opportunity. In order to pass or get an A, be ready to constantly use outside resources to understand concepts.
Had to take her for both O Chem classes. She's a cool professor but she doesn't know how to teach. You have to READ THE BOOK which is really helpful. Don't be scared to ask questions cuz she answers them fine, her problem is getting sidetracked and getting held back on the agenda. Would take her again because she's easier than university professors
I scored above average on all her exams, nearly 80-90% with a middle in-between for the unit tests. Lab papers were graded VERY last minute and caused me to fail because they weren't good. Really not fair because feedback was given so late. Lab materials are non-existent. You'll have to ask her, get yelled at, and then wait for her to get HALF.
DONT TAKE HER CLASS. She makes things more complicated than they are and makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Midterms every 3 chapters along with quizzes each week per chapter. Labs each week are done on your own, no partner. She is nice but doesn't know how to teach well and goes over material fast.
Guys, if you're planning to take Chem 3A, do not take it with Alla Gamarnik, I repeat, do not take it with Alla Gamarnik. It's hard as hell, she doesn't know how to explain things, and she talks to you like you already know everything. At this point, she's the worst professor I've ever had at Delta.
DO NOT TAKE HER! this prof makes everything 100x harder than it needs to be. exams every other week, a quiz (or even two) a week, labs are done by yourself. she is terrible at explaining things and moves through the material very fast. had to teach myself almost everything, and atp there's only 10 out of the 40 something students left. be warned :p
