teaches through lecture, clear, and if pay attention well, will pass easily.
if take notes will pass be prepared for indepth tests on readings and lecture
Teaches too much information. Studying for tests is difficult
requires knowing many dates and people, lecture is important

In depth lectures and thorough test, good for people who are in school to learn.
Tells u exactly what will be on tests, show up take notes get an A
Interesting class, long lectures, reading every night, fun projects!
Dr Stallsmith is a very informed considerate teacher. I had her for ancient hist and Byzantine and Balkan CIv. Thought she was good. Take notes and you will learn. Lots of maps
Lectures are boring, but the tests are so incredibly easy. Gives a study guide. If you study it, you will definitely get an A.
Dull, boring, not challenging at all. There should be less expensive ways to test my short term memory. Can you say cram for the exam??
I dunno why people say she is easy for HIS101...I am not a lazy or poor student and let me say her tests are not ones that should be given in a 101 class.
I'm pretty sure she bores herself with her lectures. The tests are hard no matter how much you study the text book's (which she wrote) study guide. You can try to take notes all you want but you'll most likely end up staring out the window or asleep.
looks like she is going to fall asleep teaching the class. so incredibly boring.
soo boring its ridiculous. tests are hard no matter how much you study. you WILL fall asleep in class. if you are going to take this for a gen ed, take something else!
Soooooo easy.....but sooo boring. If you try to pay attention during lecture and take notes you WILL get an A. Lectures are boring but if you go and take good notes you don't have to open your textbook. Exams are soooooo easy, mostly all matching.
soooooooooo boring. Should be easy but its not. Make notecards for the id's to know basic facts about everything because she does not want in-depth.
BORING..did i say that it was BORING...i mean she could at least do something to keep us interested
Not a good lecturer, but exams are fairly easy and straightforward. She gives you everything you need on Blackboard. Showed up half the time...crammed...dedicated 5 hours of my life to this course and pulled a 97.
long lectures, test directly from her study guide, don't like how we had to memorize dates
Class is long and somewhat boring. If you attend regularly and take good notes you will get an A. Exams are straight from her book. Very easy class, just a bit boring
She comes off really hard the first few weeks. No attendance grade, but it's better to attend than to not attend regardless of how seemingly boring.3 tests that consist of MC, TF, and short answer and 1 easy easy paper which will balance grade.
Whoever thinks class is hard is dumb. So easy. Go over notes and don't have to look at textbook. Do the readings and questions out of book she wrote(she'll drill you on them). Really bland teaching style. Sometimes makes you feel like a know-nothing.
On the final, she told us to do each essay, no further directions. I wrote each one 2 pages, and she gave me an E for them not being long enough, yet she never said 2 pages each wasnt enough. Sheis very unclear with directions, watch out!
I had her for Ancient Civ. and she was HORRIBLE!! Gave us long study guides with all these dates we had to remember and only put like 5 on the test. The most boring lecturer ever-its impossible to stay awake. Do not take her for an "easy" gen
tests are exactly like study guides, dont bother goin to class, just look up the study guide terms, easy A if u actually put in effort
Exams are very difficult for a 101 class, and require a lot of memorization of dates and facts. THe museum assignment is a very easy A. Lectures are extremely BORING, pick another Gen. Ed. if u can.
Despite the fact that her exams are *rough*, she's good in lecture, and really enjoys what she's teaching. She's very straightforward, and has a humor that, if you get it, is really funny. Unfortunately, it seems not many people get it.
One of the better classes you can take. Detailed and thought provoking classes. Test require a lot of preperation but are straight forword.
Shes really knowledgable. If you like history and dont mind memorizing a few dates youll love this class
This class in particular has many complicated political changes and people, but not overly difficult. She does a decent job of going over things in class. Slightly unclear, but do the reading, there is a lot, if you do it youll fly through the exams. i like the class and would take her again.
This professor helped me so much. She is funny in a quirky kind of way, and really knows a lot.
This class is the best of both worlds. You can learn alot from it plus it is not that difficult. Her test require minimul study. Her lectures are very detailed and full of interesting side facts. The text book is garbage but her book is very good. No long Paper but a interesting project to a walter art musam with a short report.
Just listen to the lecture, take notes and you'll do fine. She has a weird sense of humor but it lightens up what would be an extremely serious class otherwise.
She is a very good teacher-and very funny. Tells you a lot of info about the past. The tests are fairly easy and the essay is easy if you love to write a lot.
Easy class. Three exams including the final, map quizzes and a paper. She gives you a list of what you have to know for the exams and the map quiz. Sense of humor and easy going.
The class was boring and horrible and the information on tests was not covered in class that much. She doesn't know what she's doing and if you emai her, she probably won't get back to you.
Great professor. Class lectures can be a bit boring, but she is filled with great information. What she covers in class is what is on the exam. She gives a study guide and is a pretty easy grader. Very glad to have taken her.
class is 3 tests, one on middle east, greece, and rome. One muesum assinment to the Walters Art Museum which is easy. Finally daily homeworks on primary source document which are easy. Do the homework and pay attention in class and youll do fine.
Easiest A ever. Buy the packett, copy the notes from BlackBoard before class, do the work and show up to all classes. Keep an A-average on the homework, 2 midterms and museum project and you may get to skip the final. You have to be an idiot to not get an A in this class. She's nice and will give you a great letter of recommendation if you need it.
Not a bad class at all. She is everything everyone else said and it was a very easy class, although she does make it boring sometimes. The only reason I don't like her is personal, but it doesn't affect how simple this class is. Oh yeah MEMORIZE DATES and you'll be fine.
Her class was interesting and very informative. She may not be the most exciting lecturer but she does show signs of wit from time to time, which is refreshing. She is very helpful for the final papers, giving you lists of sources for your topic. Exams are straight forward and her grading is moderate.
Class was very easy. Just print out power points beforehand and you'll have minimal note taking. Attendence not mandatory but recommended. She's a pretty interesting character but sometimes the material is a little boring. Just do the homework assignments and memorize the study sheets and you'll have an easy A.
Dr. Stallsmith is patient and absolutely dedicated to her students. She wants to be sure people are really learning, and she is great. A very interesting lecturer. She expects a lot of work from you, but rewards hard work with fair grades.
Don't take Alexander the Great and His Successors because it sounds like a cool class. This prof is boring, the books she chooses are terrible, and the subject matter makes me want to jump out of the window in the middle of class. She is easy though, and she tells you everything that is on her tests from day one of the class.
Pretty boring class. Her midterm and final are easy with the study guide she gives you. Once you get beyond Alexander (which is roughly the first month) the bottom falls out of this class.
Boring!! More work than I was expecting in a 101 class. She is a pretty easy grader, but it is a lot of memorizing. If all your doing is getting a GenEd, I guess I would recommend it if there wasn't anything else. Wasn't too bad. She is interesting...
Awesome!
Absolutely HORRIBLE CLASS, keeps you past the time class is supposed to get out. Puts you to sleep and the class is full of busy work. No need to take notes bc she skeems off her students by making you buy a packet of papers (test material) that she wrote questions for. A 5th graders could write these questions in the packet. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
This class reminded me of a 5th grade history class until it came time for the tests. makes you remember many dates for matching, memorize 30 people and know who what where and when for them, as well as memorize about 8 readings. Simple class if you're good at that kinda stuff.
"it was like the cold war, except hot." seriously she really said that sentence. She is an aweful teacher who in class just the other said that it is silly to believe that jesus didn't exist because ppl wrote about them. I know its a history class but she acts like everything in the bible is true...get a clue the bible isn't a text book.
Horrible. Treats you like you're in elementary school. Tests are brutal with LOTS of memorizing tedious names & dates. Jumps from country to country and times within the countries. Museum assignment is pointless. I only like ancient world history and this class ruined it for me completely. Do not take, you will regret it!
Class is hard, shes a little intense and sometimes scary just in personality but she really knows what shes talking about. you might not be really excited to go to her class, and the tests are kinda brutal but you will learn alot
The first day of class we were a little tight and she went around to every person and got into a discussion with them about if they really needed this class or not, she was pretty much trying to kick out ppl on the first day for no reason. She teaches from slides and tests were a ton of memorization and pretty hard for 101 class.
SHe's nice, and lets you turn in anything late up to the end of the semester. Sometimes for full credits. Interesting.
what a horrible teacher. has no interset teaching this class, has powerpoints for everything. needed to take this joke of a class to take her upper level when i alrdy took the other pre-req. it is hard for hist majors to stay away from her but if you can i would
If you need help, she will help you. You have to go to her and let her know you care but once you establish that, she is not so bad at all. She is pretty cool if you have one on one convo with her.
I have had stallsmith for multiple classes throughout my time at Towson and it seems to me that she just doesn't care and doesn't want to teach. When I first took her for 101 she seemed to care more then she does now. Now she gives more readings, lectures less, & has harder tests, like she wants people to fail or be bored out of their minds & drop.
I love this class! Prof. Stallsmith is very nice. Only 3 test and a final, plus one other museum assignment. I look forward to class! However, it's all powerpoints, so if you're not into that, I don't recommend her. The tests are pretty easy. She posts exactly what you need on blackboard! I recommend her!
If you can do simple memorization of some dates and their respective events you'll be fine. Her tests are EASY if you memorize the date list and review the study guide she gives for each test. Tells cool stories/myths. Funny and nice. Only have 1 SHORT/easy paper required. Final not cummulative except for two short essays you pick from 5 options.
I really enjoyed Dr. Stallsmith's class. The class was really laid back; no quizzes, just 3 exams - which she provides study guides, and a museum assignment (really easy). I loved learning about Egypt, Phoenicia, and other Ancient civilizations. It was a really cool class; definitely take it with her when it becomes available.
DO NOT TAKE!! Run, do not walk to your nearest exit. She is disorganized, forgetful, assign a plethora of reading material and her syllabus is in a constant state of flux. She edits your material first instead of reading it which causes her to write down questions that would have been answered had she taken the time to read first, mark later.
Presents clear and understandable power points, and tells fun stories to go along with them. Funny and caring professor, really loves what she's doing. Tests can be kinda hard, it's mostly memorizing dates and identifications, but she gives out study guides before all 3. Show up and it's an easy A
Dr. Stallsmith's Roman History class was enjoyable. The professor is very straightforward, and is a great lecturer. The class is very manageable, and the subject material is exciting. She provides a study guide for exams. Make sure that your research paper is without error, well written, and concise. She is a hard grader on this paper.
Prof Stallsmith is a great lecturer who is passionate and knowledgeable in her field. I had a great time in this class and it was really easy. 3 Map quizzes, 3 Exams. Come to class, take notes, get an A.
this class was called Greek Gods but we covered none of that, she rambled on about cults and almost never touched on the gods them selves. i am a history major i love history classes but i have to say this is the worst class i have ever taken. so boring and you must read the books and articles (which are like 20 each)save your self DONT TAKE!!
Class is boring and pointless...you have to study really hard to pass the tests. Too hard for a 100 level class
Prof. Stallsmith is a great professor to take if you have any interest in classical history. Her upper levels have a lot of reading but there are not a lot of writing assignments. Tests are not difficult if you use the study guide she provides you. If you need to take an ancient history upper level take one of her courses.
She's definitely sassy and will kick you out of class if your cell phone goes off... However, if you're kind and respectful towards her, she will be respectful and kind towards you. Her map quizzes are EXTREMELY easy and she gives helpful study guides before exams. The class overall is a fairly easy A.
It was an interesting course with interest material, map quizzes were easy, museum assignment was easy, tests were god awful- you need to write many essays and invest in blue books and know every single person, date, & event on the study guide inside & out. Heavy workload- be prepared to read 20 pages for hours everyday from a small print textbook
ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS: The tests are the hardest thing ever. All memorization and no real learning. I love history and struggle to keep awake in class because it is so boring. She takes attendance everyday and you will lose points if you skip. Keep up with the reading or you will fail the tests. Best of luck if you are in this class, its not easy.
Very tough class with lots of reading out of a textbook she constantly references as being wrong and very hard tests that are all memorization. Not an easy 100 level class! Prof Stallsmith is not friendly or approachable. Her lectures include so much detail that you end up zoning out the first few minutes and her power points are not helpful.
Her section of HIST101 is simple to pass if you just do the work. There are weekly (very brief) homework assignments. Tests involve essay questions, so be ready for that. The one assigned project requires a visit to the museum, and was actually a lot of fun to do. Just make sure you don't ask stupid questions during the lecture.
She acts like she doesn't want to be there. She consistently answers questions by saying "I don't know." She doesn't give any grading criteria and uses vague prompts. There's very few grades in the class so make sure you're extra prepared for the few graded assignments. She can also be very condescending.
Her class was interesting, but it could easily become boring after sitting through her lectures. She's an older woman, so she tends to make jokes no one really understands. You will have weekly document assignments that she grades for completion, so be sure to do them. Also, the tests require you to memorize A TON of dates which is very very hard.
Not the best. She seems nice but theres only a few opportunities to get grades. Tests are hard and the readings are incredibly hard to wrap your head around. I won't be taking any of her classes any time soon.
3 tests, an easy museum assignment, and participation. Easy class just show up, do the homework, and study for the tests. You have to memorize maps, dates, and important figures in history. She gives study guides and is very helpful if need be. Would take again. Didn't open the textbook once and got a B.
Boring. Powerpoints are not helpful. Changes graded assignments at the last second. Doesnt care about students. No on understands her questions, lectures, or tests. They have so much material. Refuses to admit she is wrong. Very tough teacher to get through.
She is incredibly rude. I have asked many questions in her class and she does not answer in a professional way. She is very knowledgable and I like the topic of the class, but she is just not a very nice person. She is a harsh grader and does not give helpful feedback.
She is very knowledgeable on the material, however is very rude when giving feedback and answering questions. It is almost as if we are bothering her. She has unrealistic expectations and gives minimum and very confusing instructions, then is very rude and passive aggressive when you ask for clarification.
Terrible. I have never gotten below an A on any class and got a C. I quoted the textbook to cite my information and she told me it was wrong and I got a C on the paper because of it. Provides little feedback. afraid to be wrong. asks the worst questions. incredibly boring. rude to students. need I say more?
She expects a lot from us, which is fair, but it is extremely overwhelming when you have other classes to worry about. Her lectures are dry and she expects us all to participate so def do the readings before class (the readings aren't super long or hard to read).
