He's a nice guy, and is very smart. However, he is quite unclear. After each class I have to decrypt his lecture notes. A lot of the stuff he writes is useless info and wastes time.
He is very kind hearted and wants everyone to do very well. But sometimes he gets all mixed up and confuses everyone. Sometimes not listening makes things more clear.
He writes fast, talks fast, and his writing is often times illegible. It seems like he's there to pack as much information as he can in one class to save time rather then teach. He does try to answer your questions and tries to help you if you need it out of class though, but during class you better get used to frantically writing.
His lectures are unclear and his notes are unorganized. He tries to help outside of class, but it still does not justify his poor teaching qualities. I passed his class, but I would definitly avoid having him as a teacher again.
His notes are so messy & he writes down a bunch of useless proofs & stuff. He is a really hard marker. He sticks to the rules of the department thats for sure. No scaling or nothing. He did the same examples as out of the text which sucked & explained useless math ideas. Bad teacher. Switch if u get him. He is willing to help in office hours though
The absolute worst prof in the school..worst than any teacher I've had in my life. Drop his class if your registered..Im not going to restate what everyelse said, but its all true...unfortunatley because he seems like a genuine nice guy.
brutal...
Take this guys class in summer school. Its really easy and the homework is posted on other universitys websites(u gotta search like a **** thou). Hes a real nice guy too. And offcourse the biggest **** in the G.MAC. And the cleanest SOB OUT THERE! PEACE!
He did cover alot of material in a short amount of time but if you do the homework assignments you understand what he was talking about in class. He is avaliable during his office hours and is willing to help with any problems that students may have. He is a nice guy.
Classes pack A LOT of volume, so try to read ahead if you have time before the lecture, as you will get lost quickly and understand nothing. One of the nicest teachers there is. If you have any questions he will always answer them after class. If you get lost in the lectures, the textbook has most of the notes Allan does so you can learn it from th
Allan isn't a very good teacher. His notes were on overhead and he moved way too fast to make even brief notes. He mixed up the variables on the formula a few times and often seemed to confuse himself. When asked questions, he often admitted he didn't know because he just found out he was teaching the course a week b4 the term and wasn't prepared
His writing is so small that you need an electron microscpe to see it. He also puts some "trick" words in his questions so watch out, cause if you don't you'll end up with 0.5 out of 3. But he is also really a genuine nice guy who is always willing to help out during office hours, which I give him credit for.

Highly recommended. Good notes. Exam questions similar to assignment questions. Willing to help until you get it. Notes arent as bad as people say.... plus if you just study the assignments you will do well.
Lots of info packed into every lecture, too much. He just flies over everything. The assignments didn't even really cover the things we went over in class. Pretty tough I thought and ended up dropping his class. Seemed like a nice guy, just not someone i could learn from.
He is very determined to teach us well and give us lots of preparation for exams. He is one of the very few instructors that would care about you. At the end, it was a boring class, and he certainly did his best. I just found it funny the way he covers his mouth while speaking. Regardeless what others have said, I do think he is a good prof.
There is alot of material covered each class but Allen does his best to explain. He is also helpful out of class.
Oh man just attend one class and you will get a laugh out of it. He writes his notes on the board and when he turns around he accidently wipes them off with his shirt...go to one of his classes and you will see why. Overall to slow of a teacher and exams have way to much TRIG on them. Maybe if ur lucky you get one non triq question on an exam
horrible prof. I do not recommend him at all. Half the time he doesn't know what he is talking about and clears the board to redo his notes. He makes everything more complicated then it is and inlcudes his own made up methods that take two boards of work. told me he couldnt help me when i asked for the help. First midterm class average was below 50
The best professor I have ever had; he is clear on his explanations and willing to help outside class. He really cares about his students when they have trouble understanding math.
Absolutely brutal teacher for calculus. He gets confused and frustrated when trying to teacher the subject. The examples he quickly scribles on the board often contain errors, which furthur frustrate him. Having a bad teacher makes calculus far harder than it has to be. I do not reccomend him!
Explains curriculum very well. Very helpful. Wants ALL his students to succeed. Helps on the actual exam if you ask questions! He gives hints on what will and what will not be on the exam if you show up to every class. You end up only having to study half the material! Just wants to make stats as easy as possible! Great teacher!
Very helpful prof in office hours but his notes are bad and have a lot of mistakes in them which lead to confusion. Exams are written NO MC
BOOOOORING...... Im a math guy myself and have never found math to be confusing at all but this guy managed to do it. I did Math 31 with no difficulty at all yet this has probably been the most difficult course in university so far. Maybe it was the poor teaching skills, maybe it was the copying notes off the board for 2 hours straight every class.
Great teacher. VERY helpful and interested in giving a lot of extra help to students who are willing to show up and work. Awesome teacher. Helped me understand a subject that used to have me in tears.
Allan is a great guy. I never had him as a prof but one day I overheard him helping some calc + stats students and asked if he could help me too and he didn't mind at all. He helped me pass calc for sure.
Allan wants his students to succeed. Always willing to give extra help. If i couldn't make it to his office i would scan my work and email it to him. He would answer back with the help that i needed.
He neither seemed to have any grasp on teaching or his subject. If you teach something 3 times before you understand if yourself that is not ok. Also if one of your students is done when everyone is supposed to be handing in the test, you should realize your a bad teacher and quit or at least help us do something else to increase our mark.
extremely boring and repetitive.. sat in class and wrote notes the whole class.. so hard to stay awake. he had no energy nor any passion in what he was teaching, definitely would not recommend
Allan is a nice guy and will help you outside of class if you go looking for him. Problem is, his notes are simple and have simple examples. The homework can be tricky at times but his tests are the WORST. You can pass his class even if you fail his first midterm. All and all, work at it and you'll do well.
his lectures are boring, you will learn better if you read text book at home. and the review exam questions do not work well on the exams. i will avoid to take his course again
great teacher. he pretty much discusses his exams in lectures.
Allan is a great prof and goes through everything you need to know for the exams. every single class during break he helps students with assignment questions. for both mid terms all i studied was the practice exams he pposted and i got b+ on both. i had a question an hour before the exam and he answered it outside his regualr office hours.
His classes are pretty boring but he is very helpful if you need it and his in class examples are pretty thorough. Mid terms reflect what he covers in class so not too bad
Allan is definitely a character. His lectures can be funny sometimes, but usually do a better job of putting me to sleep. When you go see him 1-on-1 in the Help Centre, though, he is extremely patient and thorough. Very gracious marker on assignments and exams. Recommended.
This is probably the worst math instructor ive ever had. His notes are all over the place, makes simple things complicated, just overall horrible at teaching math. If you havent taken math 31 i strongly recommend not to take his class
Decent prof. Knows his material well. A few mistakes in the notes, but he's quick to fix them. Always takes time to help his students! His class was fun, he made stats easy!
Awful Awful Awful teacher. would not recommend him to anybody. His examples are not clear at all. He makes everything WAY more complicated than it should be. Gets confused with everything he says. Doesnt do any examples in class, and when he does they are simple and he solves them on his own. He has made calculus really difficult for me.
Not helpful in the slightest. Didn't use the textbook at all(waste of money!) and was late almost every class, thus keeping us late. The class itself wasn't difficult, yet I had to teach myself everything again, because his notes were confusing. DO not take this prof. Unless math is your thing.
Not extremely organized. Rushed through the last bit of the course and confused most of the class. Not a horrible teacher though. Would possibly take him for another course
This is probably one of the most well-meaning profs I've ever met. I asked so many questions because I found stats (esp. the homework) really hard, and he helped me through them all. He does cram a lot at the end but otherwise very patient and genuinely wants you to understand and do well.
Allan's lectures can be a bit boring, but outside of class, especially in the mathstats help centre, he's extremely understanding and helpful. His notes can be a bit confusing so buying a textbook is hugely recommended.
He's really easy to understand (and that's coming from someone who absolutely despises any type of math). If you don't do well, it's because you didn't try. The only problem is sometimes he doesn't notice if your hand is up right away so he misses your question, but he's a great prof!
SO kind and SO humble. My biggest memory of him is when he realised he might've said something offensive (it wasn't) and got super flustered about it. It was adorable! He posts his powerpoints beforehand (YES) and his teaching style is amazing; it covers EVERYTHING. If you ask ANY question, he'll try to answer it (even if it wastes class time).
Allan's a good guy and I would definitely take him again. He pretty much tells you what is going to be exactly on his exams. The course was super easy, but this is coming from a math guy.
I loved him as a prof!! He respected all of his students and seems like an extremely nice guy!! He genuinely wants his students to succeed. His tests were very fair. I suck at math but I felt like he tried to make sure they weren't super hard. I enjoyed his lectures and would definitely take his class again. Need the textbook for assignments!
Allan is very experienced and great at what he does. STAT 151 is a brutal class but Allan did a great job explaining concepts in a way that made sense. The best way to prepare for the midterm and final are by doing the practice midtermsfinals that are posted on blackboard. I definitely recommend Allan for this class. Good luck!
Allan was a great prof! Always available to help to make sure you understand concepts that you may find challenging. The practice midtermsfinals are a great way to prepare yourself for his exams, almost identical! Defiantly would take a class with him again. Math isn't my best subject but it ended up being a breeze!
Allan is an excellent professor!! I had him for 151 and I wish I had him for stat 252! Don't be afraid to ask questions in class because he explains things really nicely. If you need help with any of the assignments, you can just go to his office hours or the math help room and he WILL help you and make you understand the concepts.
Boring lectures, test are tough, but was a nice prof.
He's a nice teacher but when it comes to tests, he's really nit picky about what you should have written down.
He explains things pretty well, and if you need help he would definitely help! Overall I didn't enjoy stats so it was a pretty dry subject for me. Tests are pretty tough, definitely do those practice tests!
Allan is a nice man. He's great in the Help Centre especially. His classes are super boring though. It's hard to pay attention because it's so dull and I was one of the few people in our class who actually attended class until the end of semester. He is really thorough as he does examples though.
Probably one of the best profs I've ever had. His sample midterms are exactly like his real ones.
This guy gives you everything and tells you everything you need to succeed. I absolutely love this prof as he was very clear and very simple. The only drawback is that it is a long class and it is a bit dull. But then again, what class isn't when its over an hour long? Do practice midterms and finals and you will do great.
Allan is a great prof. He speaks clearly and effectively covers all the important material found in the textbook. He has a plan and he sticks to it. He is well organized, his examples are easy to follow and he likes to make his class fun. His passionate, easy-going approach to teaching has actually encouraged me to pursue stats as a minor.
Most helpful prof I've had this sem. PRINT HIS NOTES. You can do the examples on it as he does it on the board. Honestly the best notes I've gotten, very organized and has every little bit of information.
One of the best STAT 151 professors out there. Tough marker in the lab but his practice midterms and his practice finals are identical to his actual exams. Very approachable in his office and will answer any question, no matter how dumb it is. If you like doing well- take this professor.
This professor reads through his notes without describing anything in detail. His response would be "this is easy so we will skip that." How is it easy when I am not familiar with the discipline!? He does not answer questions and pretends like he doesn't see your hand and moves on to the next topic. AVOID at all cost. Not at all helpful.
Allan is an awesome prof! I was always horrible at Stats and Probability in high school and he made it seem a lot easier. I got stuck on a question during the midterm that would have cost me 10 marks and he helped me through it, so overall great prof!
Practice midterms and finals exactly like the real thing. Goes through examples in class which helps with assignments. Posts assignment questions and answers (after they're due) online. Extended our assignment due dates multiple times because he wasn't done teaching some parts. I'm not a math person but Hildebrant makes it so easy to do well.
This is the professor to take STATS 151 with!!!!!! DO yourself a favour and enrol in his class. His notes are detailed but to the point. NO SURPRISES on the midterm. He posts 3 practice midterms and it literally is identical to actual midterm. An EXCELLENT PROFESSOR! Highly recommend!
Do not take Alan for a stats lab, he is a good lecture prof but he does not know how to teach the lab at all, I had to teach how to use the SPSS program to myself instead of him teaching me, he does not give extensions or anything for the lab assignments or the lab finals as well.
He had no idea how to teach stat161 lab. He would use another teachers answer key and she was a hard marker so it was unclear as to what he was looking for. Would give us examples for the labs but for the final there was no time to finish the entire thing.
Allan was a great professor! I would recommend him to anyone taking Stats151. He has clear expectations and he gives you multiple practice tests for the midterm and final exam! There are homework assignments every week. He tells you exactly what will be on the exams. His notes are detailed. There is no reason to do bad in his class!
Textbook not necessary as he provides detailed lecture notes and the assignments on blackboard. If you need clarification on something i'd suggest renting it from the library or asking Allan himself. He posts practice midterms and finals which are just like the real thing. No reason to do bad in this class! :)
Amazing prof for stats! Describes everything very well & can ask questions. Lays out the expectations & gives study midterms/specifies what is on it as well as the exam. Definitely a first choice prof for stats if you are a beginner or an expert.
This class takes some patience for first year students! Be patient with Minitab and check his blackboard for examples and instructions on each lab. The final is just like the practice final and should ace the class if your patient and put in the work! Allan is also accessable during office hours!
Attendance is not mandatory but would highly recommend as he goes over how to do the labs. Did not need the lab manual as it's online. Allan is really helpful and caring tbh he reminds of santa. Allan is willing to go over your entire assignment before it's due he will help correct you. His practice final is very similar to the lab final.
Stat 151 is always talked about with fear, but this professor is amazing at clearly explaining concepts. You have to do a 8-11 question homework assignment each week, but really that's all you have to do, as well as show up and you can do fantastic in this course!
Allan was a great Stat 151 instructor here at MacEwan. Had him for my Lab as well and he was great with that as well, always willing to help a student. The lectures can be a bit boring/dull, but thats how statistics is. The math/course in itself is not really hard, more of a thinking course with some easy math.
Such a nice teacher. He is super clearly and super helpful in his lab section. If you ask him during his office hour and learning center, he become extremely helpful and try his best to help you understand, let me know a lot of thing which is important for human knowledge which is important in my real life. Thank you Allen.
He creates very good notes and puts them online for students to access. Spends lectures going through his notes and doing the examples (some answers to examples arent online, so its valuable to attend the lectures.) Assignments are due weekly/bi-weekly, but nothing too heavy. He is very clear about what will and will not be on exams.
Allan was very kind and accommodating to all the students in the lab component, and made sure no single student was struggling in the course. He goes into extensive detail on how to use the statistics software and effectively prepared us for the lab quizzes and the lab exam. Easy marks.
Good professor, tells you what you need to know to get a good grade. His practice exams reflect the midterm and final
Allan is a really nice guy. I look forward to his labs, and thats a stretch because its at 8am on Fridays. He's very straight forward and to the point when teaching , and his explanations are always very helpful one on one. I wish that I could have him as my lecture prof as well, because I know that I would be MUCH more motivated to come to class.
Great prof! He knows how to teach and makes it very easy to understand, probably one of the best Stats profs at MacEwan. Assignments and Midterm are fairly easy. Definitely recommend!
Really good prof! I was afraid to take STATS, but he made the class understandable and less daunting. He provides notes online, but it is necessary to attend class to get the examples filled in. Assignments are not too hard. Midterm and final are the same format and difficulty as the practice ones he gives out. Highly recommend!
He would lecture on topics that were irrelevant and when he gave a midterm or final he chose the hardest possible examples of the question that he barely touched on. His examples he did in class were also irrelevant. His final exam is the most difficult test you will write in your college career.
I had Allan for Stats 151, the midterm and final were exactly like the practice exams, the course overall is difficult but he made it manageable. He gave out assignments literally every week but they were good practice. Overall a very good prof.
I guess he is a good Stat prof but im not so sure about Calculus. Examples and explanations done in class are so irrelevant to what you see on the final exam and midterm. This exam is so hard youre gonna cry for weeks after giving it. Only the quizzes were easy.
Overall, the class was pretty decent. I never used the textbook because he posted lots of practice problems on blackboard. He posts all lecture notes on blackboard and explains everything well in class. It takes him a while to get assignments and exams back. Also doesn't post the grades in blackboard.
writes super tiny. Review his notes and practice exams and you're set.
Allan is a thorough prof. He clearly knows what he is doing and does a really good job of explaining concepts in a way that is easy to understand. I don't recommend taking early classes where you might fall asleep because what he says in class is all on the assignments and tests. Buy a textbook if you need further explanation on concepts!
Allan was overall a great professor. Stats is a heavy course but Allan provided clear and concise notes during lecture times, and would post all those notes online so class is not mandatory. There are a few assignments due each month as well as a lab portion. Allan also has accessible office hours and is frequently in the math help centre!
Allan is the best professor for this class! His tests are easy as long as you pay attention in class.
Very efficient. Knows exactly what he’s talking about and explains concepts really well, and is friendly throughout his lectures. Cares about his students. Stay on top of the lectures though or you’ll fall way behind, Stat 151 is a very fast course.
Allan is a great prof. He's caring and super nice towards students. He makes topics easy to understand and is very knowledgeable as well.
Super clear with the content being taught and worked on in the lab, connecting the concepts from lecture and the work in the lab. Unfortunately didn't always have time to do all the demo questions, but that's a university problem, not his. Really clear and helpful in giving hints and tips, so be sure to attend and take good notes.
Amazing professor, made things as smooth and easy for students as possible. Was incredibly accommodating for students, wants the best for them, I was out of the country for two weeks, so he arranged for lectures for me to watch veryClear in his marking criteria, excellent explaining how to solve questions and provided thorough finalexam resources.
He teaches everything in depth and has many practice problems to help. His tests are a bit long but not too hard.
VERY KIND! Always there to help.
Amazing lab instructor! Helps a lot for assignments and provide clear explanations for the demo questions. Always accessible during office hours.
Absolute beast. Take this guy, pay attention to lectures, do the practice midterm and final to prepare, and if you could do that, i guarantee you will get an A.
Very clear lectures, sometimes he doesn't see your hand up for a question but will periodically stop and ask if anyone has any. Briefly explains theory, and notes that definitions will make more sense when he does examples, then does A LOT of examples.
I really disliked stats, I thought the class itself was a huge slog, but I never had a problem with Allan. He explained things clearly enough and always showed up to our 8am class ready to go. The midterm and final were basically a reshuffle of the practice sheets he gives so nothing came unexpectedly. I recommend taking stats in the afternoon lol
Stats is a boring class in itself, but Allan is a great professor. He explains things clearly, cares, and is available to answer questions outside of class. He only taught me lecture, but I would go to him for lab help as well and he was great. Pay attention in class and do all the examples/practice tests he provides and you're all set.
Great prof! Really cares about developing a clear understanding for students of the information needed to succeed for the course. Very thorough in both lectures and labs. Highly recommend for Stat 151
Amazing prof I would highly recommend for Stats 151. He really went through the topics in depth and made sure everyone understood what he was doing. Super nice guy
Great guy. He goes over everything in great detail, and wants you to do well and fully understand everything throughout lab. Would highly reccomend.
I was super nervous about taking STATS but Alan was awesome! I took the 50 min lectures and he used many examples to explain areas of learning. His final and midterms were also EXACTLY like his practice exams so if you do those you were more than prepared.
Allan is a great prof who explains concepts clearly. The class is a slog, but his lectures, practice tests, and resources like unstuckstudy make it manageable. Attend class, do the work, and you'll do well.
Love this guy. Have him for both lab and lecture. Super nice, explains everything in detail, and is always accessible outside of class times. Have taken him previously, and would definitely take him again in the future if needed. 10/10 recommend. Amazing prof.
Allan is such a personable dude. He tells you exactly what you need to know and his practice exams are practically identical to the real one. I was scared to take stats but he introduced me into a new interest. He makes a stereotypically dry and boring course super interesting and engaging. Teaches through examples and not much theory - kinda epic
He's awesome, lectures were kinda boring but the notes you take in them are very useful. Midterm and final were VERY similar to the practice ones, but to do really well, do all practice that he uploads. Give the assignments priority too cuz you can do well in them, just don't leave them to last min cuz theyre long.
He was very good at teaching the lectures and explained everything so clearly. The only thing is his exams are way too long, in the final half of the class were still writing after the 3-hour mark, and the exam was over. I think this is why I struggled so much, especially since there are no multiple-choice questions on his exams.
I fairly enjoyed this class; math-related courses are just not for me. Prof. Hildebrandt was very knowledgeable and did his best to make class engaging. Start assignments early, as they are quite heavy and work as good practice. The midterm and final are similar in structure to the practice questions he gives out so make sure to do those!
He is very caring and wants all of his students to do well in his class. Lectures are boring at times but he posts all of them online which makes it easy to do at home. Assignments are useful but take long to make sure to start them early. The practice he posts are really good for exams. Take him if you can
Personally, I liked his style of teaching. He provides lots of practice midterms and finals that are very similar to the real thing. Lectures can be a little boring but his notes provide everything you need to know. His assignments are also good study material and grade boosters, so really try to do your best on them. Would take him again.
ok prof, class is extremely boring as he just does examples. I'm also not a math person so I particularly struggled in this course. He kind of just expects you to know the content, without wanting to explain things more in depth. Practice exams are similar to final and midterm exams, yet still I found them challenging. assignments take long.
I have taken stats before and dropped it, it made no sense to me. This professor is amazing, he really explains the concepts. He goes in depth and gives a lot of questions for you to do on your own. Would totally recommend him!
Dr. Allan Hildebrandt is the best doctor in the department of math and statistics, if it wasn't for him I would've failed this course, clear explanation, makes difficult chapters easy by introducing specific strategies to break down the problem and solve it in pieces, very accessible outside class and answers every question you have, recommend!
Allan is nice guy but whatever he teaches in class especially in 265 Lab does not works out good enough for assignments and exam because they are much harder and examples he does in class are not helpful, so dont go for nice, go for better
Allan is one of the best profs I have had so far, he gives multiple clear ways to solve every problem given to you and will spend extra time with you if you are not understanding something clearly, there are 5 assignments, one midterm and a final exam, his practice exams are identical to the midterm and final, just practice and you'll do great!
